It's the brand I told you about a few days ago." He tried to listen to you but was totally consumed by the new smell. "Here, smell this." you grin and hold your arm in front of his nose. "It's a new body lotion and two body spray's I mixed so–" But before you could finish your sentence he pulled you with him up from the couch and pushed you towards his dorm. I got these new things from a brand called 'sol de Janeiro' it's supposed to smell like pistachio and salted caramel. It's smells delicious really." You handed the items around and your friends smelled on the lotions and sprays. They all told you how good and yummy it smelled, smiling at the scent. When they finally passed it to your boyfriend, he took a smell and his eyes widened immediately. "Oh Mia cara this smells— oh dio aiutami." Mattheo really tried his best to be a good shopping partner but after the hundreth shop you walked through, he barely could comprehend anything you said. "Oh look a drugstore! I need a few new things. I wanna change my scent." His eyebrows shot up. "New scent? In like, new perfume?" You nodded your head and walked inside, your eyes already on a few products. "Yes and also my showering routine has to change so the smell matched the perfume." he looked at you in confusion. What do you mean your shower routine has to change? Just shower, right? "Hmm I'm thinking since it's getting a bit colder I'm gonna go for something less fruity." You browse through the shelves of the store until you find something to fill your basket. "And?" he asked lazily, looking at the new items. "Vanilla." you proudly smile at him, taking one of the bottles and opening the cap. "Here, smell it." You hold it in front of his nose and he takes a little sniff, his face soon changing into utterly confusion. "Wait–" he mumbles when you're about to pull the bottle away. He takes it out of your hand and smells it again, then the rest in your basket. "Oh baby, If you're gonna smell like this I'm eating you up as soon as you leave the shower." he smirks at you. You roll your eyes but can't help the giggle that leaves your mouth. "What are you doing?" you question your boyfriend when he starts walking through the store on his own. "Finding more of this vanilla stuff!"

You'll love it." He sighs and sits down at the edge of your bed, his eyes scanning all of the products. "Looks pretty.." he admits in a quiet mumble but you still heard it. "I know! It's on the more luxury side and like a whole new brand! It's supposed to smell like orange and sandalwood." "Sandalwood? You wanna smell like a forest?" "Dracooo stop mocking me, please. Try it and tell me how you like it, seriously." You pull off the cap of your new bodyspray and spritz it on your wrist, holding it in front of his nose. You studied his face to see a reaction, but nothing. "Draco? Don't you like it? I chose something fruity because I know you li–" but before you could finish your sentence, you were pulled up from your bed. "Dray, what are you doing?" "We're gonna take a shower, right now." "Oh so you like the stuff from 'the dirty muggle world', huh?" Now you were the one who mocked him and made him roll his eyes but in his opinion it was worth it. "Yeah yeah, we'll see who's gonna laugh when I am ready with you, darling." And just like that your smile dropped to your panties.

Secrets to the Arabian Princess Scent 💐🧴🪷

So with Arab perfumes becoming popular in the West due to their strong projection and beautiful smell, and the Arab world becoming known for our knowledge on how to smell good af, I (a half Moroccan) am going to reveal some other ways we ensure we smell amazing to the girlies on Tumblr who are interested in Arab perfumes or just in generally smelling amazing 😍 Most tips are Moroccan but many apply to the Arab world in general (under the cut because this turned into a long post) ✨💞💐

1) Good Eating Habits: When my mother moved here to Europe, she was immediately struck by how the people seemed to smell like "pig." And that's no coincidence. You are what you eat, so coming from a country where nobody eats pig to one where everyone eats it, of course you're going to be struck by people smelling like it from the inside out. Not just that, but in the Arab world, it's also way less common for people to eat takeout and drink alcohol, whereas in many parts of the West, these things are a normal part of many people's diets and affects their natural scent. A lot of Arabs have also talked about how Westerners smell like "milk," and this is because Westerners tend to consume more dairy products than people in the East do. It's also common for Arabs to eat fruit as dessert instead of having cakes or cookies all the time (although speaking of cookies and cakes, the scents of rosewater, orange blossom water, almonds, honey, vanilla, oranges and lemons commonly used in Arab baking fill up the house with a wonderful smell while they're baking). Teas made from various herbal infusions are popular throughout the Arab world. Spearmint, peppermint, sage, cardamom, cinnamon, hibiscus, chamomile, anise, and thyme are commonly used to flavor tea in MENA. Dried lime tea is drunk in the Arabian Peninsula. Coffee flavoured with cardamom is also common. I especially like Turkish coffee. Spices like cinnamon, cardamom, and cloves are commonly used in cooking, and the scent of them can cling to your clothes and hair. Herbs like mint and parsley, which have natural deodorising properties, are often used in meals.

I'm not saying that you need to cut any foods out in order to smell good, but you should consider reducing the amounts of unhealthy foods and red meats you eat, and make sure to drink plenty of water and eat veggies and fruit daily.

2) Keeping a Clean House: Here in Ireland, a lot of people don't clean their houses every day. I know multiple people that only clean their floor once a week, and have a couple of neighbours who don't do much cleaning themselves and just have a housekeeper visit to clean once a week. But in Morocco, people clean daily. The home is also deep cleaned once a week, we even wash the walls. We don't wear shoes inside, and not just that, but we also have different slippers specifically for wearing inside the bathroom. Living in a clean space is important for smelling good, because no matter what you do, you'll always end up smelling like wherever you live due to spending so much time there. The scent will cling to your clothes and hair. Which means if your house smells dirty, you will also smell dirty.

As well as making sure the house is clean, Arabs also make it smell pretty with extras. For example, in Morocco it's common to burn incense or bakhour (perfumed wood chips), and the scent permeates your clothes. People also keep pieces of musk in their wardrobes (wrapped in a handkerchief). It come in scents like orange blossom, jasmine, amber, sandalwood, chamomile and lavender. An unused bar of soap or a sachet of potpourri in your wardrobe will do the same job though if you can't or don't want to buy musk. The musk can also be used as a scented wax melt, a home scent (you just leave it in a bowl), a body perfume (rub it on your skin), a hair perfume (rub on your palms and run through the hair), or to scent bathwater. Solid perfume made from natural ingredients has the same effect. I like Lush Rose Jam solid perfume, as it smells like sweet roses and Turkish delight, and a little goes a long way.

Specific to Marrakech, you can buy jasmine balls which you just leave around the house (if you're not in Marrakech, you can just leave potpourri or dried flowers and herbs in sachets on your desk, bedside table, etc). The Marrakech herbal shops also sell sandalwood bark which you burn. Oud and amber are also burned. Herbs like lavender are sprinkled under carpets and rugs so the scent rises as they're stepped on. Room sprays from brands like Nabeel are used, which come in a range of lovely scents (like the warm vanilla and oud Kanz or the rich floral Raunaq).

3) Personal Hygiene: In the Arab world, people shower daily. In Morocco, we also go to the hammam (public bath) once a week, and we sit in the sauna room, and then rub our bodies with sabon beldi (black soap), a natural soap made from olive oil and black olives, leaving it on for a few minutes before rinsing it off. Then we scrub our skin with a kessa glove after it's marinated. Exfoliating dead skin regularly makes perfume cling to you better (if you order Korean bath towels from Amazon, they're very similar to Moroccan kessa gloves and you use them in a similar way). Then after washing our hair, we use a ghassoul clay mask (some people also rub henna into their skin). After washing the clay off, many people rub rosewater or argan oil into their skin before heading to the relaxation area to enjoy refreshments. As well as helping us smell good, it also makes our skin incomparably soft. When my parents were newlyweds, my father remarked on how he'd never felt a woman with such soft skin in his life before. My mother attributes it to regularly using the hammams before moving here.

Obviously not everyone has access to a hammam, but you can create a similar experience at home. Just sit in a steamy hot shower for 10-15 minutes, wash your skin with a natural soap and leave it on for a few minutes before rinsing off and exfoliating with a glove. Then tone with rosewater and apply oil to your body.

Dukhan treatments (smoke baths) are practiced in Sudan. Married women and brides anoint themselves with oil, before sitting over a chair with a hole in the centre. Under the seat, there is a pit, in which acacia wood, frankincense, or other aromatic woods and resins are burned in a clay vessel.

As well as showering daily (and using the hammam regularly if you're Maghrebi), many people in the Arab world also perform wudu (ritual cleansing) five times a day before praying.

Women commonly apply Musk Al Tahara (white musk), an attar that smells like vanilla, flowers and soft musk on the external parts of their vulva after periods.

Alum was commonly used as a natural deodorant in the Arab world in the past, and some still use it today.

Bidets are also common in the Arab world. In the Anglosphere they're uncommon, but it's easy to get a portable bidet (a small squeezable bottle with a nozzle) online.

We also wash our hands before meals, with a pitcher of water which is passed around the room. In Turkey, they use kolonya, made from fig blossoms, jasmine, rose, or citrus to disinfect their hands. In Morocco, it's common for women to scent their hands with rosewater or orange blossom water after meals.

4) Fragrances, Lotions and Potions: In the Arab world, perfumes are incredible. They're oil-based, so they have excellent projection and longevity. The olfactory notes commonly used in them are beautiful too: delicate rosewater and orange blossom water, exotic oud, sweet amber, vibrant roses and jasmine. In Morocco, gardenia scents are popular, even among men.

Emirati perfumes are the most well known in the West and are super good. Some personal favourites of mine include Oud Mood by Lattafa (Caramel, rose, saffron, and oud), Fatima Pink by Zimaya (Sweet rose that smells like a bit like Turkish delight. it's a dupe of the French Parfums De Marly Delina, however, the actual Delina smells very similar to generic rose oil perfumes you can get in the Arab world to begin with so Zimaya was basically able to dupe it to a T. Their version lasts really long too), Ameerat Al Arab by Lattafa (jasmine, a hint of oud, slightly citrusy. Also the name means "Arabian Princess" in English), Fakhar Rose by Lattafa (sweet, fruity, and very floral) and Yara by Lattafa (floral, amber, vanilla and strawberry). I buy my perfumes from Dubai Perfume Shop in Dublin, but they can be easily found online. Some well-known Arab perfume houses include Lattafa, Al Rehab, Zimaya, Al Qurashi, Amouage, Afnan, Ajmal, Asdaaf, Al Haramain, Armaf, Kayali, Maison Alhambra, and Swiss Arabian, but there are hundreds more.

As well as sprayable perfume, perfume oil is also used. It usually comes in rollerballs or small containers, is inexpensive, and lasts for ages. Like spray perfume, it comes in a huge variety of scents. You can also put it in diffusers or add some to cotton balls and leave in your wardrobe to scent clothes and linens.

Arabs know when to wear perfumes. For example, a rich, sweet, strong oud and vanilla scent will be beautiful in colder weather. But in warm weather, it will become cloying and sickly. Musk, amber and saffron are popular in winter, while rose, orange blossom and jasmine are popular in summer.

In the Arab world, many stalls in the Medina sell gorgeous oils, fragrances and soaps that are inexpensive. For example, the musk I mentioned above. As well as making your home smell incredible, you can also rub it on your body and you'll smell good for days.

Rosewater is commonly used as a toner and to remove makeup. In the town of Skoura, where my great grandparents were from, men even use it to shave with! Orange blossom water is also used in Arab beauty routines in a similar way to rosewater. You can apply either to a bath for extra luxury.

Argan oil is commonly used in Morocco on both skin and hair, as well as the less well-known but just as good prickly pear oil (which is very high in vitamin E). Pure argan oil actually smells mild and not fragrant (similar to olive oil), but for beauty, things like rose oil and menthol are commonly added, so it smells pretty good. Throughout the Middle East and North Africa, jasmine hair oil, castor oil and sweet almond oil (I like putting it in my baths and on my body) are easy to find. Usually Middle Eastern and South Asian shops in the West sell them too.

Honey and almond masks have been used since ancient times, and to this day are still popular. You can buy them basically anywhere. Homemade face masks made from honey and yoghurt or crushed figs and yoghurt are also used.

Aloe Vera is used to treat dry skin, acne, and sunburns. It has a cool and refreshing scent, perfect for the hot climate in many parts of the Arabian world. I like applying it after shaving as it's soothing, natural, and absorbs easily.

Frankincense, a resin used in the Middle East and North Africa for thousands of years, was traditionally used as a natural perfume. It's commonly used in incense. Frankincense oil is also good for the skin.

There are many beautiful scented soaps available in the Arab world. If you go to Turkish or Arab supermarkets, a lot of them will have a section where they sell hygiene products, including soaps with ingredients like argan, rose and oud, and olive oil. I've even found Syrian Aleppo soap before. You can just buy soaps from regular stores in scents like rose, jasmine, honey and almond, orange blossom and sandalwood for achieving that exotic scent though.

As well as using various oils, perfumes, and fragrant beauty treatments, Arab women also know how to layer these different scents to add dimension to them and avoid clashing. For example, a rose perfume over a vanilla lotion will always smell good. Other combinations that are good include almond and vanilla, rose and oud, rose and jasmine, lavender and lemon, rose and orange blossom, and orange blossom and vanilla. But there are many different combinations you can use to achieve a delicious scent that's unique to you.

ghoul perfume associations!

i am very into ghost. and i am also very into indie perfumes! so i decided to combine the two and make a list of my scent associations for each of the ghouls, as well as a few indie fragrances that fit them (in my opinion! if y'all have other thoughts i would LOVE to hear them /gen)

i also included all of the perfumes i found that had the same names as the ghouls, even if i didn't think the scent profile worked, and bonus atmospherics that i think are more naturally ghoul-ish and worked well for the various elements!

Notes: chocolate, linen, lavender. Aeon smells very gentle and pleasant, but not necessarily sweet. He smells like things that he himself finds comfort in.

Notes: dark fruits, musk. Cirrus smells sophisticated in a dark, sensual way. She smells.. hypnotic, almost. She smells like you want her, but she doesn't even know you exist.

Venus Black -- Possets 

“A grand and very very sensual scent. Black in the most sophisticated way. Considered one of the colors, its working name was Mars' Black but it is so wonderfully feminine that there is no way that it could be named after the god of war, it should be named after the goddess of love. The Blackest musk flirts with a float of black pepper, a shot of dark sweet pear, and the smallest amount of sage and non-stinky narcissus for tingle. One not to be missed. Dry, musky, spicy.”

(i have this one. it's VERY attractive (i had to stop wearing it because i was confusing myself lmao) and now that i associate it with cirrus. i might have a problem)

Salomé -- Alkemia Perfumes

Matt is a rich boy, so he will wear more expensive perfumes, but not like Allison in a "I want the best" way but more in a "oh that smells nice what do you mean 200$ is expensive" kind of way.

While from vibe alone he would peg me as someone who would spend time on something like perfume, I don't think his exy brain allows it.

Bow Andrew, with everything he does, is very intentional with perfume.

I don't see him as someone who will take that decision lightly and I definitely think he is someone with a signature scent.

He will spend money on that and he will not be afraid to go into niche territory.

I could imagine tobacco notes but I would also firmly put him with sweeter gourmand fragrances.

Sparking Joy (Jean Patou, 1930)

What's the best perfume of all time? Objectively, I don't think that's an answerable question; it might be that the absolute best perfume (which means what?) is something designed by an artisan outside the French tradition or the Arabian tradition, or not by a professional nose at all, but a single bottle mixed up by a hobbyist in some quiet little corner of the world. We just don't know. But much the way the American Film Institute decrees that Citizen Kane is the best [American] film of all time, what do Those in the Know think is the best? Chanel No. 5, right? The top seller in the world for decades?

Not at all. In 2000, the Fragrance Foundation FiFi Awards bestowed the public's choice for "Scent of the Century" on Jean Patou's Joy.

I remember reading this in the newspaper at the time, back when we had newspapers; I hadn't even worn fragrance since Sun-Ripened Raspberry body splash in high school, and I was shocked that it wasn't Chanel No. 5. I have to think "the public" meant "knowledgeable members of the perfume industry," because I had never heard of Joy, and most people I've talked to (who aren't hanging out on on fragrance forums) haven't, either. I feel like many of us would reflexively say "No. 5" because Chanel's done that good a job at shoring up their flagship's legend.

The story of Jean Patou's Joy is the opposite: when a fragrance isn't given the respect it deserves.

Famously, back when Joy was famous, perfumer Henri Alméras created Joy for Parisian couturier Jean Patou, as an oddly defiant, perhaps even life-affirming reaction to the 1929 Wall Street crash. At the time, it was "the costliest perfume in the world": "One ounce of the lavish scent contains 10,600 jasmine flowers and 28 dozen May roses"—and it cost $40 ($728.45!!!). And I might say it's a little obscene to create such an extravagant thing in the middle of the Great Depression—and yet, somehow, Joy was a huge success. A master perfumer created a work of art for a luxury vendor, and people bought it, and they loved it. Jackie Kennedy wore it; Vivien Leigh wore it. I've been wearing Joy for three weeks, and if I could have saved up enough pennies in 1930 to buy a tiny vial, I could see myself doing it, just to have that little something.

Joy was explicitly intended to be "a lighthouse" in a dark time of deprivation, and it wasn't overpriced just for the hell of it; it was the costliest in the sense of quality. It might best be known for its rose-jasmine pairing, but besides the entire region of Grasse crammed into every bottle, Joy also contains "leafy green notes," tuberose, ylang-ylang, aldehydes, peach (our old friend undecalactone?), lily of the valley, orris root, orchid, civet, musk, and sandalwood; Wikipedia also lists "michelia," which may mean magnolia here.

I'll admit up front that I have no idea when the sample I bought last month was produced, but the “juice,” as they say, looks very new; it doesn't have the deep dark color that I've seen on vintage bottles of Joy. It's got to be one of the newer formulations. Tom at Perfume Posse can speak for the older ones:

The [2022 sample] I received smells thinner than I remember - more skimming over those fields of flowers than just bashing into them, face-first. The Joy I remember reveled in the excess: bowers of roses, masses of lilies, clouds of tuberose backed with some of that “don’t F with me” musk that must have been civet back in the day. This is nice. Nice and sweet, with only a hint of the previous hedonist.

Angela at Now Smell This:

For the longest time, to me Joy smelled dense, like a Victorian room with the curtains pulled. I couldn’t feel my way around in it. The turning point for me came from hearing current Patou house perfumer Thomas Fontaine describe Joy’s sillage as lush and old fashioned. I’d been trying to make Joy a light, happy perfume. Really, it’s a gorgeously constructed velvet overcoat, heavy and plush and meticulously made. It’s red wine, not champagne.

The Scented Hound:

Joy (current version eau de parfum) is truly a joy when it first goes on the skin as it’s full of lush ylang-ylang and soapy white flowers and bright aldehydes. [...] As Joy continues its slow and deliberate path, a jasmine blends itself with the rose…but combined, they’re still very controlled and incredibly proper. Joy doesn’t transform or morph very much, but in the end, the florals fade and soften a bit, and what you’re left is a lightly warm breeze of light floral sandalwood musk.

The version I have is clearly the newer one—I actually would say it's more like champagne, not in the literal effervescent way (see the Coco Mademoiselles), but in the sense that this Joy is light. Not weak, but light, the way I described the aspect of No. 5 that I could stand as "limpid." In my head, Joy is a beautiful sunset pink color, sheer, almost verging into red. The jasmine comes out the strongest for me at first, maybe with the slight presence of an aldehyde, but then, on top of that, the biggest, fullest, realest rose I've ever smelled in a perfume. If I get cut flowers for my birthday, I always save any roses in the bouquet and dry them. Jean Patou's Joy smells like a rose that is so fully blown that the petals fall apart in my hand when I try to pull it from the vase. Not decaying, not that far gone, but the rose's absolute full potential of bloom, and so vividly that I can see the texture of the petals. If you want to tell me there’s 336 roses in here, I will believe you.

On my skin, the rose floats there on top, on a bed of headier florals, for at least half an hour; in my notes, I jotted down that a spicy ylang-ylang "with a slight bubblegum connotation" (see Samsara for more on the bubbleylang) shows up then, and by an hour-twenty, the whole thing has come together, all flowers present at once in a sweet, soft, heady, slightly spicy, rose-pink glow.

[Sidebar: At three hours, Joy reminded me in some non-literal way of Murray & Lanman's Florida Water, also billed as "the Richest of All Perfumes" in the late 1800s. (Of course I got myself a bottle of an actual Gilded Age perfume they still sell today for $4, are you kidding me?) I've seen a lot of Florida Water formulas (which are still used today in various spiritual traditions), and I've mostly seen lavender, clove, and multiple citrus notes as the components, sometimes with rose, ylang-ylang, and/or cinnamon as well. Unlike many, many French perfumes, Jean Patou's Joy doesn't have any citrus top notes at all, so I'm not sure what I'm getting in common with Florida Water, other than the florals and a certain spiciness that comes out late in Joy's game for me. I'd like to think it's purely the "richness" that reminds me of the Costliest Perfume in the World.]

"Warm breeze" is a good way to describe Joy's drydown; it's not heavy or old-fashioned to me at all, and I can't specifically pick out musk at any point (clearly, this sample was made after real animal musk was banned in 1979; anything animalic still here would be synthetic). I barely get sandalwood—it's just gorgeous florals, and if you (I) haven't smelled the original Joy, you aren't capable of missing it. Now Smell This has a breakdown of how the eau de toilette and the eau de parfum differed as of 2008; I got the EdP. I don't feel like it goes from light to dark, but it does smell very lush and complex to me. It feels like it sings, and you know what? When I first smelled it, I thought it smelled like a number of things I'd tried recently, particularly Coco Mademoiselle L'Eau Privée. That glowing pink rose-jasmine-ylang-sandalwood combination—and then I realized, no, those perfumes smell like Joy. Joy is so iconic that it's used as a building block, a quotation, in so many fragrances that came after it.

And it's so, so easy to wear—in fairness, I haven't worn the heavier original formulation, but I'm not even sure I'd want to. This Joy is so easy and lovely and gorgeous—I've been wondering if I'd ever find my one signature scent to rule them all, and while Joy doesn't have all my favorite notes, I wouldn't mind if it became mine.

But here's the thing: they don't manufacture Joy anymore. You can still buy what's already been produced, for now, but as existing supplies sell out, it'll only get more expensive with time. Because someone bought the rights to Jean Patou's Joy for the sole purpose of not producing it.

hair always smells like smoke, like he was sitting right next to a campfire an hour ago. and I'd like to think the air around him smells like ozone when he gets angry.

but he absolutely wears perfume, it'd be really charming to me if he was as into it as you are. it's part of his mask, it's a modern ritual, it's an opportunity to carefully shape how other people think of him and feel around him before they even speak. such a subtle way to influence how you appear to others, in my heart of hearts I know he's INSANE about it.

this also makes me wonder about what smelled good to people when Armand was human under Marius' care. what does Armand remember being the most desirable at the time. does he talk about those details from his past. does he try not to remember what Marius smelled like

I suppose his natural scent must be cold, since he’s dead. It might not be much of anything, really, because rot hasn’t set in, so it’s somewhere between the lingering scent of their mortality and this totally cold, almost sterile scent. But I do think he smells like the faint afterimages of smoke and that somewhere below that there’s a metallic edge that can’t be washed off, and it probably sticks to his fingers the most. Maybe the faint scent of other people’s cologne, too, trails of Chanel Bleu and Oud Wood lingering near his fingers and neck. I like the ozone idea, though. His face doesn’t show his anger, but the air changes.

I’m inclined to agree with that. He puts so much effort into his clothing and his tailoring, and it’s always carefully chosen to project something to other people, so he’s probably similar about scents. There must be bottles of the stuff — probably cataloged and organized — somewhere on his dresser or on the marble slab of the bathroom sink. I think he probably gravitates towards things that are more grown-up and expensive, though, subtle signaling that he’s not like the throngs of men soaked in body spray and drugstore aftershave. In Dubai he probably smells inoffensive, honestly. Something clean but nothing to write home about. I almost want to say Noir 29, because it’s recently been co-opted by all these men with disposable income and designer suits who stock their bathrooms with Aesop, and I feel like that’s not dissimilar to what he’s trying to achieve in all his interactions with Daniel. It’s not what he’d wear for himself, though.

I don’t know much about perfume history, but I think perfume was flourishing in Renaissance Italy, so he must’ve had a good stock of them then too. Surely at least some of it was from Santa Maria Novella, because we still have their perfume recipes. They still make perfume today, so maybe some of it descends from whatever Armand must’ve smelled. It was probably all really strong, since they were using real musk and real jasmine and real everything, really. I think there were a lot of florals because they were distilling actual flowers. If you want to know what that might smell like the best thing to do would be to smell Arabian or Turkish perfume oils, which are all excellent, since I’m sure that’s where a lot of Italian perfumers got their inspiration from. I’m also fairly certain they were using scented oils at that point, and given the trade route of the time, there’s a good chance a lot of it might have been imported from Asia. I wonder if any of it smelled like home. Maybe he avoids it all now. As for Marius, well… I couldn’t guess what Marius smelled like, but I don’t think Armand would hate it. He’d probably find it comforting. He might still have a bottle of something similar somewhere, just for the comfort.

I can't say for much for makeup but your standard Boots, Superdrugs, Harrods Beauty are great! I would be on the look out for Charlotte Tilbury classes where you can learn which makeup suits you can you get a cash back to spend on their products ( aka its free) . If you have time please make a stop at the Face Gym and lemme know how it is!

For perfumes however, I do have more reccomendations:

For Arabic perfumes, Al Baraka is well known for having everything for decent prices. It has become popular on tiktok so not sure how that has impacted the prices. Another option is Al Arabiya which is nearby so you can stop at both whilst there. Arabian Oud Oxford street is a more high end alternative.

In terms of British houses, you have the flagship store for Penhaligons (Luna is a gorgeous summer scent!). You also have Ormonde Jayne,Roja Parfums and Floris ( Would recommend Floris mouthwash ).

For a niche curated selection head to Jovoy in Mayfair which carries some of the aforementioned brands and others as well. If you wanna go even more niche, Bloom Perfumery is a great option.

(Also obviously Harrods Beauty carries a lot of your common well known perfumer brands like Kurkdjian and Diptyque )

Today I was in a perfume-shop and I just got the feeling that some arabian perfumes would be very suitable for drow. If I think back to descriptions of the incenses, oils and stuff they use, always the strong, heavy, deep scents are the first to come to my mind.

So I checked some of arabian perfumes from the trademark Al Haramain and I found some incredibly drow-styled bottles and also scents. The matrons (and literally all nobles, especially the fancy wizards I'm looking at you Nalfein and Pharaun) would going crazy for these.

With seemingly endless flankers, Arabian house's original Amber Oud can be easily overlooked. Unisex to masculine, it combines woods, silky amber, and a light dose of citrus for an easy-to-wear, long-lasting scent that defies its affordable price. Have you smelled it?

Arabian jasmine and gardenias have one of the strongest and nicest scents ever, and their petal shapes are really pretty when they fully unfurl. I kind of like to think of how the trigun quartet/quintet(sextet with razlo?) Would react to them, since they are both flowers that flourish in heat and need iron to grow (which I imagine is abundant due to all the fight side effects)

I love jasmine and gardenia! Excellent flowers.

Vash: the man LOVES flowers he’s ecstatic he’s over the moons. He sees them as symbols of healing from violence. He also likes that they look like stars. Redemption and freedom

Wolfwood: not as much of a flower guy, and gets introspective and quiet when he thinks about them. To him, they’re funerary and opulent

Meryl: loves the smell of jasmine, it’s her main perfume. She had a small climbing jasmine plant where she grew up, so it reminds her of being outside with family at home. It’s safe and familiar

Milly: she knows lots of herblore, and enjoys making jasmine tea! She has fond memories of preserving rare gardenia blossoms in honey for special occasions and for medicine. To her, they’re a combination of practicality and indulgence, since they’re largely more decorative than utilitarian.

Livio: he also hasn’t had a lot of experience with flowers. He’s surprised by how they bloom at night, and how nice they smell. They’re so removed from his past that he starts to take an interest, just to have something that’s his. To him, these flowers represent new beginnings and the chance to be nurturing.

Razlo: he’s never had the opportunity to look at flowers. They have no combat utility, so he didn’t get to even think about them. He realizes that he’s not going to get in trouble for literally stopping to smell the flowers. He can have this. They’re the chance to be gentle, to be something other than a weapon. To be a person.

Ghost Scents👃

I like to think some ghosts may have lingering scents, perhaps related to their interests and even deaths.

Sidney- pesticide/insecticide. His locker for whatever reason has a lingering smell of it, and strengthens when he’s around. He excuses it as teen puberty smell but the truths much darker… Would also count as a sorta warning scent as certain bugs give off smells to deter predators away. This applies more to my version of Sidney.

Ember- Ash. Fire tends to leave that and in general a burning smell🔥

Klemper- Pine and gingerbread cookies. Where he used to play had a couple of pine trees, that he tended to brush on. Not to mention when he was watching the movie, probably snacked on something like gingerbread cookies or other Xhristmas goodies🍪

Walker- What you’d expect from a Wild West era. Hay, dust, etc.

Spectra- like strong vintage perfume. Helps to cover up the smell of ecto.

Johnny 13 & Kitty- J- burned tires, motor oil K- fresh spring clovers🛞🛢🍀

Lunch Lady- Like whatever she cooks. Usually baked goods🧁🍪🍞

Ghost Writer- Like hot drinks and old books☕️📚

Desiree- Incense/Oud. A popular Arabian incense.

Werewolf Smells

yknow what? i really like mystreet/pdh characters! so here’s what they would smell like bc i take pride in smelling good! also these have no explanation.

Aphmau:

victoria’s secret old bombshell perfume and makeup (yk that good makeup smell)

Aaron:

cigarettes and bathroom polo. the offbrand kind that’s pretty chill.

Garroth:

expensive ass cologne just on the wrists and neck, like his father taught him. the bottle would be burgundy since that’s a fancy color.

Laurence:

his sisters perfume and probably nature. like that fresh scent once you go camping.

Dante:

cologne and ace body spray but not so much it makes you sick. he just likes the smell.

Gene:

cigarettes, a little bit of booze- but also a nice black ice car tree freshener smell.

Dottie:

into the night bath and bodywork’s body spray and lotion. mostly cause that’s one of my favorites.

Rylan:

cigarettes and like a syrupy smell. he likes french toast and carrie’s it with him, so yk. (that’s true btw.)

Daniel:

vanilla, and a nature smell. maybe like coffee while your camping. i love the smell of camping.

Blaze:

like the wood section of a lowe’s. and like- old spice deodorant, but the charcoal kind.

Ein:

this man is either musty cause of sweating, or he smells like a damn car dealership. and car dealerships smell like car trees, the ones you hang on your window. the nice smelling ‘manly’ ones.

Lucinda:

dark chocolate and like that arabian oil on tiktok that smells like ‘a woman with her titties out being fed fruit’.

Kawaii~Chan:

in the oven cookies, sugar fondant and a warm melted chocolate smell.

Katelyn:

once again, she’s either musty or smells pretty good. either she’s musty from a workout or such, or she smells like the at the beach perfume from bath and body works.

Maria:

tequila? and like- a nice campfirely, womanly smell. like if you go on some elevator and there’s a lady’s nice perfume in the air- that’s what she smells like.

Kai:

cheap cologne, but the good one. also probably essential oils, thinks it makes him down to earth.
