Instead of putting math departments in the buildings for natural sciences they should put them next to the philosophy department. And then any time a scientist needs some mathematics they have to make a pilgrimage to a different side of the campus.
#math#the applied mathematicians commute back and forth several times a day on some sort of monorail perhaps

Let S be a bounded, convex, compact, well-defined set, tightly compressed, seasoned, smoked, strictly marinated, and covered with a layer of Worcestershire sauce. Then S is homeomorphic to any well-made dish.
#or maybe im just really hungry#why topological and culinary concepts combine that well#could you apply worcestershire sauce to any hausdorff space?#math#mathblr

what’s kinda crazy is that, had filbrick been a better father and raised them in a loving home, the twins probably could’ve actually made a lot of money for the family… stan was never accommodated for while growing up so he never got to demonstrate his smarts (and he is very smart, he taught himself advanced math and shit while building a long-lasting business from scratch, man), and instead he was made to feel more and more worthless, like he had nothing to contribute to the world—the only purpose he was able to find was to always be there for his brother. what was he if he didn’t have a brother to be there for anymore? of course he would eventually lash out over losing ford (and accidentally ruin ford’s project in the process). on the other hand, ford had so much pressure on him that he pushed himself too hard to prove just how smart he was. to prove that he was the best. he needed to hear how smart he was, because what was he if he wasn’t a genius? of course bill’s manipulation worked on him. of course he wanted to make something that could change the world despite the potentially dangerous nature of it, something that would put his name in the history books. his only value was to bring success to his family, and this was how he was going to do it. if stan had been encouraged and supported, he could have used his skills to find success. if ford hadn’t been put under so much pressure, he wouldn’t have needed to turn to a literal demon so he could prove himself. he could’ve focused on the other groundbreaking research he already had in gravity falls. stan probably never would have broken that project in the first place and ford would’ve made it to his dream school, just like filbrick wanted.
#filbrick pines when i fucking catch you#but like… right?????#hell maybe even shermie could’ve been more successful??? i doubt he got too much support at home either#anyway#both of the stans r kind of insanely smart#stan didn’t get the chance to demonstrate it bc he wasn’t as obviously booksmart as ford#but he TAUGHT HIMSELF the complicated math and science that was required to work on a fucking portal ????#he clearly has booksmarts when he applies himself#maybe he would’ve applied himself more if he was encouraged rather than degraded every time he struggled in school#yes? 😇😇😇#beats filbrick to death#gravity falls#stanley pines#stanford pines#ahem uhhh#hey

This hits doubly hard in applied maths when you actually go to the effort of trying to explain the application so the work is "meaningful" to randoms and then they either don't care about the application at all or ask tons of followups that you know nothing about bc it's not related to your work. Like I just do the differential equations and they are cool and please appreciate my pretty plot 🥺
Explaining a beautiful mathematical concept and the person asks for the real world application like bitch first off the real world application is it makes me personally ecstatic and second it doesn't need one because it's my special little princess concept

No, pure math and applied math are not enemies, in fact they are kissing, sloppy style, squishing boobs together, etc.
#mathblr#math#pure math#applied math#mostly shitpost#but seriously applied math is closer to pure math than any other subject#stop trying to tear them apart.

Hi i was wondering if youd be okay with people writing fanfiction about your spade pirates sabo au?
I’m perfectly fine with people writing fics for Spade Pirate Sabo AU as long as they credit and do so with the understanding that I already have broad strokes of the AU planned out and their fic might not be canon to whatever I have planned!
That said I love seeing people’s work based on the au so if anybody does write a fic I’d love if they could send it to me so I could read it 🥺
#im so sorry updates have been slow this term is so much busier than I thought it would be#my fault for loading up on the data analysis and math-heavy classes in the same term I’m supposed to be applying for grad school 😔

Don’t get me wrong, I love a Steve Harrington that’s boss in a specific subject or something but man I love Genuinely Dumb as Rocks Steve Harrington.
Like, please, he is Dumbass Representation and I need him as such 🥲
#as someone who almost flunked out of highschool#and was rejected by all the colleges I applied to except one ☝️ that made me do a summer math class to qualify#AND genuinely cant drive#😭 I need to feel like it’s okay to be Stupid and loved dammit#steve harrington headcanon#himbo steve harrington#steve harrington#steddie#bee speaks

Cyberweek 2024 Day Five: Crossover
Pfft, I've been on an AvA kick recently, so I guess it's not too surprising that I chose this. On one hand, this crossover works well in theory. The stick figures are all fast, kinetic learners and really good at demonstrating their earned skills and knowledge.
On the other hand, the sheer tonal dissonance is hilarious.
#Cyberchase#Cyberweek2024#Animation vs Animator#AvA#Animation vs Math#Day Five: Crossover#Matt#Jackie#Inez#Digit#Hacker#Euler's Integer#The Second Coming#TSC#Orange AvA#One is a little kid's show about applying math and science practically and focuses on problem-solving#With very little action#The other is an online series focusing on high-octane fight scenes#Much hilarity would ensue if they were put in the blender together#Knightmare Art

not smart as in intelligent but smart as in "people use my above average skills in math to deny me support in every other area of life"
#newsflash! most of life isn't like math#most of life isn't as logical and systematic as math#so no. just bc i know how to add numbers together#won't mean i'll know how to cook for example#or go shopping. or apply for a job#or anything really#neurodivergent#actually neurodivergent#autistic#autism#actually autistic#adhd#actually adhd#gifted kid problems#gifted kid burnout#gifted kid syndrome

Maybe it's cause I'm surrounded by art people all the time but I feel like math as a school subject gets a bad wrap. Like now that I'm not forced to take classes for it, I just start doing it on my own for fun. It gets my brain stimulated. I'm doing calculus like it's a word puzzle; it's a stress reliever and it's rewarding. It's encountering a problem I already know all the steps to even if I've semi-forgotten them. And there's minimal consequences if I get the answer wrong. I think it's fun to go to town with a ballpoint pen on some dirty scrap paper, just letting the scribbly numbers flow.
#i was so disappointed when i found out taxes was mostly filling out a form and less actual calculator action#now i just help my sister with her algebra 2 hw#idk i was stressed ab con stuff earlier so i just started calculating my expenses on paper and it felt really good#this same thing applies to making spreadsheets#i think making and thinking ab art all the time makes academic work like a fun hobby to me sometimes#but i did like math in school anyway hm#wheat rambles

truly my best brain time is in the middle of the night caffeine & sugar rush. I think I just understood math, like some part of the general pattern of math if that makes sense. something clicked somewhere in my brain and I felt it
#idk this might sound like a sleep deprived caffeine up god complexed person's rambles bc that's 100% what it is#(it's vector & matrices I'm at currently bc got some algorithms to figure out and explain how those would apply to deal with EEG-data#in practice and I think I got like the basic thing that idk how to put into words; like the connections etc.)#I think it helped to have that EEG-data there to think things through with bc some context is always nice#I suck at just purely theoretical math#anyways feeling great & maybe I'm not the dumbest person on this earth after all#april 2024#2024

jiro got a zero on one of his tests and i think it’s crazy to have the middle school dropout be a part of this event LOL
#this is vee speaking#the arb chronicles#like kuukou is very smart lmao he’s very well read with a plethora of hidden skills#and i’m sure if you present him with a theory he’ll be able to apply in practical application and critically as well#bro didn’t even go to high school tho lmao 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭#the subject on that book is math and tbh since buddhism has a lot of abstract numbers he could probably deal with high school math too#but that’s so funny lmao#ichiro: if i didn’t know the answer to a quiz question i just did eeny meeny miny mo 😄 (🎶i was never book smart i’m money smart 🎶)#kuukou: you don’t need school to grow up well 😆 (is a genius LOL)#they said jiro’s test score was found tho so does that mean ichiro called up jakurai and kuukou to tutor his bro 😭😭😭😭#or maybe kuukou came to play on his own and then made a space for himself in the tutoring session lmao

How do you guys like this very convoluted proof of the Pythagorean theorem I just made
#math#for my thesis btw hehe#one good thing about this one is that it is a direct scissors congruence using only translations#though there's definitely simpler diagrams that have that same property :p#this one i got by applying zylev's algorithm to the common visual proof where you add 4 triangles to make a square with side length (a+b)
