So this was another idea I had that I just decided to write out. It ended up being a bit more softer than funny which I what I was originally aiming for but oh well.
Hope you like it 😘✌️
Newage Parenting (ao3 link)
Hyacinthus learns that things have changed with child rearing in the past few thousand years from when he was alive.
"Hyacinthus, light of my life, most beautiful above all men. What. Have. You. Done?"
The greatest love of Apollo's long life stood before him, adorably dirty with mud streaked over his face hiding that horrible scar (a scar Apollo could still not bare to look at).
Hyacinthus, ever since becoming human again, had a great love of plants and the earth, which made sense given that he was a plant for a good three thousand years. But, a great love probably put it lightly since no matter what time if you ever needed to find him, he'd always be out somewhere in the gardens of Apollo's palace or the forests surrounding it bare footed. Or even at times finding him burying his feet in the ground because he 'missed the feeling'.
But that's not what Apollo needed to focus on at the moment and he managed to pull his thoughts away from how delightfull and adorable his lover looked to what actually mattered.
"What's the matter, my love?" Hyacinthus asked with the most sweetest look of confusion.
Apollo waved his arms in the air and gestured at the form of his beautiful daughter Kayla, standing in the grounds of his palace and hugging a brand new bow that he didn't gift her. "This!" He said, "why does Kayla have the brand new Fred Archery bow?!"
A delightful look of realisation came across Hyacinthus' face and he turned to Kayla, "oh sweetheart, how are you liking it? Is it just as good as you said it be?"
Kayla looked worriedly at Apollo before she turned to her step father(?) "Yes it is," she said with a small grin she got from her mortal father Darren and tightened her arms around the bow, "it's even better, thanks for getting it for me."
Hyacinthus gave her a beautiful smile, "you're so welcome sweetheart, I'm glad you like it."
Kayla bounced on her feet, giggling before stopping at the look her father gave her.
"Hyacinthus," Apollo put his hands in his glorious hair, "you cannot just give my children weapons."
"Why not? They've asked so politely." Hyacinthus asked, again looking so sweetly confused.
"They?!"
"Yes, they," he nodded, "Austin and Leo both asked for daggers to try throwing at targets, Mariah asked for a pretty gold sword, which was a little odd since I don't think it'll do too well as a defencive weapon but I wasn't about to judge and Will wanted a gun-"
With each word coming out of Hyacinthus' mouth Apollo's body began to fill with dread and he wanted nothing more than to collapse and cry, "my love, please."
"Have I done something wrong, Apollo?"
Apollo pulled himself together and stepped closer to Hyacinthus so he could put his hands on his lover's cheeks, smooshing them slightly (he also subtly wiped some of the dried dirt off his lover's face). "My love, my darling, weapons are no longer something you can just randomly hand out to children. I've started to read parent books about this and as a parent you need to be more responsible and learn to say no."
"But they're sho adorable," Hyacinthus said, struggling to speak with his cheeks squashed, and waved a hand in Kayla's direction who looked as adorable as Hyacinthus said when Apollo stared at her, her eyes peering up from under her eyelashes and twisting a foot in the ground, "how could I shay no?"
Apollo closed his eyes, bent his head down in front of Hyacinthus and sighed, "I know love," he said quietly, "but you must be strong."
Apollo took his hands off Hyacinthus' face, brushed his hands on his pants to wipe the dirt that stuck to him and sighed again, dragging a hand through his glorious hair, "Kayla, does your father at least know you have this?"
"Dad knows dad!" She said quickly, "I promise!"
"So if I talk to him about it, he'll know what I'm talking about?"
"He sure will!"
"Kayla." It's almost like everyone forgets he's also the god of truth.
She looked down and muttered something unintelligible.
"Kayla, speak up please." He said and raised an eyebrow.
She sighed in the exact same way Apollo did, "he knows I have a new bow but not that it's this one."
Apollo nodded and crossed his arms, "I'll have a talk with him then and your other siblings parents about the weapons then."
Kayla now looked at him with confusion, as if a thought just struck her, "dad, you've never done that before when we got weapons at camp though."
Apollo reached out and ruffled her hair, much to her grumbling annoyance, "well things change after reading every parenting book I could find, Kayla dearest."
"And you're not gonna take it from me?" She asked quietly looking up at him from under his hand that was now stroking her hair.
He shook his head, "no Kayla, I'm not going to take your bow or your other siblings weapons from them. They're yours to keep."
Kayla squealed and wrapped her arms around him, still not letting go of her bow which was now pressed uncomfortably against his back. "Thank you, thank you dad! I love you, you're the best!"
Apollo jumped a little in surprise but smiled in delight and quickly hugged her back, pressing his nose in her hair. He caught Hyacinthus' eye as he did who was looked at them both with a soft smile.
"I'm gonna send you back to camp now, dearest, tell your siblings I said hello and that I love them." He said, still taking in how much he loves how much his children are now more freer with their physical affection towards him.
"Ok dad." And with a kiss in her hair, Apollo sent her back with a soft glow of sunlight.
Hyacinthus audibly cleared his throat and stepped towards him and took Apollo's hand into his, giving it a slight squeeze, "so weapons are no longer something we give freely to trained children?"
"Not in the mortal world, no."
"Huh, how odd. When did that start?"
"In the past 200 years or so."
"Huh."
It was silent between them as they stood in the midst of Apollo's garden under the warmth of his sun.
"What about leaving them in the middle of the woods with nothing else but the clothes on their backs and a weapon in their hands for training?" Hyacinthus spoke up, breaking the silence.
Apollo slowly turned his head to him, "what did you do?" He asked slowly.
Hyacinthus gave him a strained wide smile, "nothing." And dropped his hand before sprinting back to the palace.
"Hyacinthus!" Shouted Apollo, chasing after him.

Poseidon: So I see you didn't punish Hera for kidnapping Percy and your boy.
Zeus, eyeing Poseidon warily: It was ultimately Apollo's fault due to the prophecy-
Poseidon: But ultimately she didn't get punished.
Zeus: Well, no but-
Poseidon: Percy! I'm kidnapping you and holding you at Atlantis for a year!
Percy: I need to attend Estelle's 1st birthday in a few months, but besides that please. Get me out of his hellhole. I have no idea how I let mom and Annabeth talk me into NRU.
Poseidon, nodding: I can work with that! I finally get to bring you home.
Zeus: wAIT-

why does the pjo series have to unnecessarily villainize goddesses (hera & athena) or show them as silly ladies (aphrodite & demeter) BUT posiedon and apollo are somehow shown as the coolest/most likeable gods, even though arguably, they're right after zeus on terms of corruption?
ares shown as the worst god after zeus and hera amuses me. last time i checked, he was the patron god of amazons and literally killed a man for attempting to rape his daughter but guess who cursed women for rejection? apollo. guess who raped women when they said no (aside from zeus)? posiedon.
#all the gods and goddesses in the greek mythology are flawed in their own way#it doesn't make sense why the books were so unnecessarily biased towards certain gods?#it bothers me specifically that hera and athena are SO unnecessarily painted as villains#while posiedon is ‘cool’ dad ‘great’ lover ‘decent’ god ‘reasonable’ than other olympians#i get it he's the main character's father of a children's fantasy novel so rick painted him in a good light#but my man? then why are you painting other gods who are arguably just as bad as him as WORSE#shut up i feel strongly about it#i love the percy jackson series#but i hate how the gods are portrayed#is trials of apollo a good series? yes#does it make sense why he's shown as a human-like god with redemption arc#while hera is reduced to ‘evil stepmom’ and ‘bitch to annabeth’ even if apollo is JUST as bad as her?#no#and aphrodite is not some ‘silly fangirl’ whose personality revolves around shipping percabeth#she is powerful terrifying and cunning who can bestow some of worst revenge on those who offend her#demeter is not a silly crop goddess#her love for her daughter was so strong it almost ended the world and destroyed mankind#shes in charge of harvest and agriculture without her humanity will starve to death#shes just as powerful as the big-3 or at least she should be#posiedon is not this cool perfect rational god#medusa would disagree demeter would disagree pasiphae would disagree odysseus would disagree#apollo cursed women posiedon raped yet ares killed a rapist BUT nooo let's make ares the bad one#percy jackson#rr crit#greek mythology#heroes of olympus#trials of apollo

"I wanted, more than anything, to make you proud." No longer does his son bend his head. He meets him in his eyes - richest brown to clearest blue. Zeus cannot help but search for that little toddling thing that once sough refuge at his knees. When did Ares grow so large? When did his shoulders get so broad? "Why can't you just be proud of me?" What is it that Phoebus always says? That children can tell their parents have favourites even when they themselves don't know? It almost brings a smile to his face. How alike they both are, even now. Mirrors, the two of them, and they don't even know it. "What good would my pride do you now, Ares?" Ares recoils as though he's been struck. As ever, it is the wrong thing to say. Maybe there's never been a right thing to say. Or maybe the both of them are fools. Caught up in this perpetual dog-and-horse show; the son who wants his father's approval and the father who does not know what that means. All the wisdom in the cosmos can't give him that knowledge. "...Good talk, Father. Truly." That blood-red hair is a windswept flag as Ares leaves. Zeus swears it had been only up to his nape when they'd started speaking. The door slams shut, it rattles all his charts and maps, the vases with Hera's flowers sat pretty on his table. Then, there is silence. Then, there is regret. Well, Metis, look what a mess he's made now.

"A Magician never reveals her secrets!" is the rule but Trucy's family has always been completely made up of other magicians. They've taught her all she knows, cards and throwing knives and sawing people in half and how to smile no matter what. So she may call Phoenix 'daddy' pretty much immediately but when she starts really thinking about him as her family is when she starts to teach him some magic.
She can tell that he's already a bit of a performer as well, his false smiles are practiced and perfected, he appreciates some theatrics, he knows the security that comes with an act. He's her father now, so she teaches him some sleight of hand and how to throw knives so he stops coming back from work all bruised from a card game gone wrong.
Just... the Wrights being a completely in-sync duo who above all, are performers, acting out the life they want others to think that they have. They have smiling iron masks that can only be seen through by each other and they're all each other has.
Phoenix didn't adopt Apollo when he figured out his parentage, no, he figured it was too late when Trucy started making him her magical assistant.

One thing I like to hc with the Apollo Head Counselors is that they all represent a time of which the sun is out.
Lee - Dawn/Dusk
Mainly dusk, but pretty much imagine him in browns, oranges , dusky yellows and reds and the like.
Michael - Twilight
Starts after the fall of Dusk, short lived. Haralds the start of darkness and but also first light when it falls. The darkess time in which the sun is out. I see him muted/ dark blues, dull browns and blacks. Maybe a touch of greyish pale yellows.
Will - Daylight
Longest lived, bright, it's what most people think about when they think of the sun. With his golden sun kissed hair and sky blue eyes its pretty on the nose. I see him in bright/light yellows and blues.
Idk why I thought of posting this, I just love them and wanted to share my thoughts.
Think it is pretty obvious how I tend to draw them, but it's fun to write it out ^^

I think that every time Apollo comes across a medical institution that uses the actual Rod of Asclepius he would get SO excited he starts pointing aggressively like the Dracula pointing meme and goes
“!!! THAT’S MY BABY BOY!!!”

"I mean... I usually take care of myself. Mr. Gavin used to insist on helping me and, weirdly, now Prosecutor Gavin has started to do the same thing."

Finals are coming up and I haven’t been able to do ANYTHING so I thought I’d make a quick angst post to let y’all know I’m not dead.
Real quick TW// for discussion of abusive relationships.
I think about Apollo and Zeus a lot. Because it wasn’t always bad. There were moments of calm, moments of camaraderie. And I know those were the moments Apollo clung too, when he felt alone and unloved. He became obsessed with those moments, those small happy times. He convinced himself that if he was just a bit more demure, a bit more obedient, his father would go back to telling him little jokes or smiling at his songs. And the worst part was that this was true. Every inch Apollo gave up to his father earned him praise, every piece of himself he tore apart was met with joyous approval. Zeus only ever wanted a son he could keep on a leash, so Apollo spent his life tightening the collar.
And Apollo put all his time trying to make up for the fact that he was Apollo. He talked to much and loved too loud and cried too often and sang too truthfully. And he made these strengths his weaknesses, to bend himself into the shape his father preferred. It became his life’s work, making a mockery of himself. And when it stormed he would weep for his children, who he desperately tried to teach to be better than him, without knowing what better truly meant. And he wept for his brothers and sisters, for the lives they had to lead in a city of false pride. And he wept for his father, who could never love him. And he wept for himself, because he could never stop loving his father. Because it wasn’t always bad, and that was all Apollo had to cling to.
Sometimes, the man who destroyed Apollo’s life was a good person. That’s what made the hurt even harder to bear.

Wrote a little fic with Apollo and Will that's been playing on my mind since I wrote a post about a scene that I really just had to write out. In it, I've also used my headcanon that Will's real name is Fitzwilliam, something I got from MsMay in their fic Courting Death. A great fic btw
So enjoy this fic 😘✌️
My dad finally acts like a real dad (ao3 link)
Summary: Will is sad about missing out on the regular teenager experience of parent teacher interviews, something normal compared to everything else he goes through, since his mum had to go do something for her work. But luckily for him, his mother is not the only parent he has.
Look.
Will understood.
No, really. He understood.
His mother was a famous singer. She did her absolute best to be there for him, to try and be a normal parent and do normal parent things. Especially as his other parent was a God, which was as far from normal you could get. She tried, but sometimes it just didn't work out and she had to go in. Something about a song lyric not working.
But sometimes, he just wished it could be different.
He buried himself under a blanket on his couch, and grabbed the remote. There's gotta be something on at this time, right. Something to take his mind off it all.
And really, why does he have to be so upset about this anyway, it's not like he doesn't know other kids wouldn't be wishing to be in his position right now. Who wouldn't love to miss parent teacher interviews and not have their parent or parents know about all their bad grades at school.
But. It's normal. It's a normal thing kids his age get to go through and is it so bad for him to wish he gets to experience at least one normal thing like them? Something so different compared to the wars he's gone through, the heavily injured bodies he's had to repair at way to young an age.
But. Like he said. He gets it.
He might not be happy about it but he gets it. And his mum promised him pizza and a movie when she gets home anyway. So at least there's that to look forward to.
Will turns on the TV and flicks through the channels, hoping to find a show to watch, maybe even something his siblings mentioned.
It's as Will finally finds a show that the front door bangs open and a familiar male voice shouts out, "Come on Will, we're going to be late!"
"Dad?" Will calls out in confusion, why would his father be here and what does he mean 'late'?
His father comes into the lounge room dressed in suit pants and a buttoned up shirt with a tie, he had a matching suit jacket over his arm and was aged the oldest Will had ever seen him. He actually looked old enough to be his father.
"Come on Fitzwilliam, up you get!"
Will cringed at the use of his full name, why did his mum have to be such a fan of Pride and Prejudice?
"Dad," Will said, looking at his father from the couch, "not that I'm not happy to see you, don't get me wrong, but why are you here? And what do you mean we'll be late?"
His father puts his free hand on his hip, "isn't it your parent teacher interview night?"
"Yeah," Will said, "but mum's not here, so I'm not going?"
His father rolled his golden eyes, "of course you're going," he said, "I'm here to take you. It's an important part of your schooling, to see where you're doing well and where you need to improve."
"You're taking me?" Will asked half up from the couch.
"Sure am Will, now go get ready, I don't want to be late."
"What about mum? Does she know?"
"You're mother knows," his father assures him, "now go put on a better shirt and pants. We can't go see your teachers looking like that."
Will doesn't even hide his beaming smile his mum tells him he gets from his father as he runs to his room to get ready. He's got parent teacher interviews to get to.
Later, when Will sits in a chair next to his father and listens to his English teacher as she talks about how his grades are low and how he doesn't seem to even try, he understands a bit better why the other kids in school hate these days.
But, turning to his father and seeing him get visibly angry. How his golden eyes, definitely hidden by the mist, burn with fury at his teacher. How his father goes to then defend him to the teacher, how he isn't lazy, that he is a very intelligent boy and absolutely always does his best.
He can't find himself to be that upset, afterall he gets to see his father act like a normal dad. And it's the best thing ever.

one thing about me is that i’m an orestes-electra-pylades defender. if you don’t hear them being defended anymore that means i am deceased
#something something about them being linked forever#none of them being redeemable all of them being innocent#about this sister who was refused love all her life and who kept it all inside her to give it to her little brother#who loves him so much that the lines blur and we don't know if she's sister ; mother ; father ; or lover even#because who could love him more than she does ?#about this brother who grew up with nothing but rage#rage towards this man he was given to ; that man ready to sell him into slavery#rage towards his mother who got rid of him#rage even towards this father that he has to kill for despite never having known him#rage towards the gods who set up his own curse and let him suffer for a good long while#and apollo did not tell him that no holy ritual will ever truly wash all the blood from his hands#but despite all this rage has chosen to love#to love this sister that he only knew the name of#and who welcomed him with more warmth than three suns combined#who had more fight in her than him and who urged him to do them justice#that's why he did not really hesitate when he killed clytemnestra#because he had seen his sister - a princess - reduced to rags and is skin on bone#and about this friend who became the definition of devotion#who voluntarily chose to follow his friend whom he knew was damned#chose to share the burden of killing with him#and who followed him on every corner of the earth they went to#and i know those three took such gentle care of each other#i know that electra and pylades both refused to go to sleep while the other tends to orestes having his fits of delirium caused by erinyes#yes their hands are bloody#but it's the same blood that's running through their three hearts attached by a red string#and the red of blood looks a lot like the red of love#electre/oreste#classics

This hurts me so much because-- Meg is free. She took in her foster siblings. Nero can't harm her or her family anymore. She's free. She killed the Beast --- she got rid of Nero
She's showing her siblings that the world can be kind, and that they have the chance to be too. She's showing them love, just like how it was shown to her
And Apollo went back.
When he gets his goodhood back, he's in Olympus. Olymps, where his father, his abuser, rules. Olympus, where his family is. That place isn't his home. He didn't have a home to go back to. And even if he loves his siblings (or, uh, some of them), they still took part in Zeus' abuse; they ignored it, acted upon it, took their anger out on others, and unlike Apollo, they refuse to change
But he knows better now. He knows not to seek his father's aproval, knows that what they did and are still doing is wrong and that he doesn't deserve to suffer because of it
He's not like them, not anymore. Maybe he never was (everything about him was a lie, after all), but now? Now that he knows the truth, now that he sees so clearly how fucked up it all is, how can he bear to go back? He'll stay as far away from Olympus and Zeus as possible. He'll be kind in his father's place, but he's still under his rule
Apollo knows, now, that even if they're all powerful beings --- even if they're gods --- they're still people. And this is something his family is too afraid (an ungodly emotion) to accept
Zeus puts his hand on his shoulder and says You have made me proud. Apollo doesn't cry nor scream-- he doesn't hug his dad, knowing that this might be the last time he gets the chance to
A unfair king, a tyrant, knowing that he may have gone too far this time, attempts to put his child at ease, making him believe that everything is fine now. But it isn't. And the child doesn't believe him
Apollo knows now. And he'll try to change things for the better

icarus loved them from afar, writing letters from his tower.
He fell in love with the fiery passion of the sun and longed for the steady, fatherly comfort of the sea, so different from the volatile anger of his real father.
When daedalus invented the wings icarus rejoiced because he knew this was his change.
When he flew out of the tower he soared up to press a kiss to his love before falling into the fatherly embrace of the ocean.
Daedalus mourns the death of his son on land but icarus ìs happy, living in his favorite place, the spot where the light of the sun glint off the crashing waves.
