You know, It doesn't matter if you belive in God or Science or Both, trans people are natural and awesome.
God? Well, we humans are made in God's image. We're all a little figurine of the Creator, and we Create. We create ourselves, our environments, our situations... God made the world and Man gave names to all the animals. We catalog and explore and determine and change. We make the wine and the bread, God made the grapes and the wheat. Of course we make our genders just as much as we make houses and clothes and stories and names. There's a bit of the divine in all of us and it's the part of us that Creates and Loves.
And Science? Oh boy! We are tool-users of the highest order. Changing things is just what we do. We built the pyramids and the dog and the horse and the computer. We've built cities out of swamps and lakes and put flags on the moon. Changing things so they work better for us is just our very nature. We heal our broken bones and build glasses and hearing aids and wheelchairs, because fuck our limitations. We invented corn and the Amazon rainforest. Transformation is in our nature just as much as being bipedal and featherless. We see a world and a body and a mind that doesn't work for us, and we change it. We build roads and skyscrapers and prosthetics and drugs, and the resulting humanity is better. We spent thousands of years building our world and our knowledge of how to change it and we're very good at it by now.
My point is, it doesn't matter if you think we're a unique creation by an omnipotent creator or a hairless ape that evolved to be particularly good at being social tool-users who can cook and throw things, our nature is Creation and Transformation. Of course some humans would be transgender and non-binary and generally genderqueer: those things are just reflections of what it means to be human.
God gave Adam the first tongs so he could smith, and the ape knapped a stone into a point so a spear could be deadlier than just a rock. Transformation is the core of humanity. Of ourselves, our environments, our tools, our stories. There's never been a humanity that was unchanging and rigid: we're not made of stone. We're made of clay and wood and reeds. Endlessly shapeable and cuttable and weavable. We decide what shapes and purposes we are meant for.

looking for some biblical text to read for AP Lit this year. i have some biblical knowledge from church, but havent really read any of The Good Book. is there any specific book (or set of books) i should read?
Hey, what's up. I don't know how long ago you sent this question because I didn't see it until now, so hopefully the deadline for this assignment hasn't already passed.
I would say a pretty standard pick for AP-style analysis would be something like Job or Ecclesiastes. Those have lots of resonances with later literature that would make for relatively easy research and writing.
If you wanted to do something more off the beaten track, you could look at a more extended narrative -- something like the Deuteronomistic history, i.e., Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, Samuel, Kings, or some smaller portion of that -- and examine their rhetorical goals in a historical context separate from from more modern interpretations that were put on them later. You could do Luke-Acts the same way.
Good luck! I hope you find/have found something interesting! You can, of course, always listen to the back catalog of our show in search of a suitable text.

Road To The Kingdom - My Planet Of The Apes Retrospective
With the hype for Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes on the rise, I decided to do a bit of a deep dive into the trilogy of reboot movies starring the incredible Andy Serkis and the various tie-in titles.
Tumblr media
Why ramble on about a series that most people seem to overlook? Well, I think back to an interaction I had here on Tumblr in 2017, just one week before War For The Planet Of The Apes came out. While scrolling through the POTA tags, I found a post that wondered if anyone was actually excited for the new film or if the studio hadn't gotten the message and was making it for an audience that didn't exist. I responded that I was genuinely excited for the new film, that I loved the motion capture apes and the action scenes and the surprisingly engaging story, and would be seeing it opening weekend. The other person seemed surprised by my honest answer and apologized for their snarkiness (a truly shocking turn of events in the history of the Internet!).
I explained that I'd gone into these films thinking of them like Jurassic World series; I wasn't there for a great story and deep writing, I just wanted to see dinosaurs destroy things. So when I went into the POTA films, just expecting to see fun action movies with monkey chaos and apocalyptic results, I was surprised that I was swept up in the characters and their stories. I loved seeing the life of Caesar from tiny carefree baby to resilient revolutionary to fearsome leader, and the lives of all the humans and apes around him. The other poster said they hadn't actually seen the movies, just expected them to be shallow cash-grabs on reboot nostalgia, but they might have to reconsider giving them a shot after my enthusiastic response.
So if I can sway the minds of anyone who has written off these films, more movie tickets sold might mean more films and other media told in this ape apocalypse world!
Tumblr media
And even if you already know and love the films, I also want to give some love to tie-in materials. Books, comics, YouTube shorts, video games; POTA has a surprisingly large catalog of bonus material for a series not considered mainstream like Marvel or Lord Of The Rings or Star Trek. I don't see them get many mentions in the fandom so hope a little spotlight on them can help them shine. They have delicious tidbits of world-building and character backstory, filling in gaps between the movies. I already have my fingers crossed there will be some tie-in material covering some of the huge time jump between War and Kingdom. With three hundred years passing between them, there is so much to learn about the ever growing and changing ape societies. I'm eager for any scrap of info they'll share!
But really, even if nothing I write changes anyone's mind about this franchise, it's still fun to gush about one of my favorite fictional universes.
My brief history with POTA was that I didn't know much about the original films before going into the new Andy Serkis trilogy. I'd heard enough about the original film to know the main beats of the first movie (quotes like 'damn dirty ape', the reveal of the planet being Earth with the Statue of Liberty). I saw the Tim Burton film which didn't leave any kind of impression other than the incredibly realistic costumes/make-up, so much so that I was apprehensive of the CG apes. Since getting into the new films, I've started watching the originals and may cover those just for fun.
So whether you're a long-time die hard fan or a fresh face to Caesar's legacy, I hope you'll enjoy my thoughts on the Planet of the Apes franchise!

The first and oldest lending library in continuous existence in the United States is located in Franklin, Massachusetts. The Franklin Public Library opened in 1790 with the purpose of loaning books, free of charge, to its constituents. Centuries later, this central mission has not changed. In fact, libraries have only expanded the communal resources they provide, with branches across the U.S. now offering free health and wellness courses to visitors.
These health programs vary in content and form, and, as with other library resources, are available to anyone regardless of age, insurance status, or language skills. Classes range from fitness and cooking to conversation sessions about mental and physical health. Some libraries even lend out blood pressure monitors and kits as they would books.
AP recently investigated this growing trend, reporting on the courses found at several library locations across the country. A public library in Smithville, Texas, for instance, provides boxes of surplus food from local farmers and has developed a peer support group for those experiencing isolation. Another library in Milwaukee focuses on arming children and teenagers with information about nutrients and healthy diets, which takes the form of a weekly after-school program run by a local chef.
Mobile health clinics also travel the country’s libraries, inviting visitors to ask questions and learn more about their wellbeing.
“What we do is a Band-Aid on a broken (health care) system,” says Carolyn McCarthy, a nurse practitioner at a mobile health clinic.
Libraries boast a plethora of other free resources as well. Whether it be digital access to magazines or vast catalogs of music, movies, and TV, our library system serves an indispensable role within our democracy by providing free and accessible information.
Despite this, libraries are still vulnerable to budget cuts. New York’s Public Library, to name one, faced up to $58.3 million in cuts this year. The decision was luckily reversed due to intense public protest, and the full funding will be restored in the 2025 fiscal year.

as someone who virtually exclusively writes ocs nowadays and has done so for the last ~10 years, i'm amused to go back through the catalog of canon muses i wrote for. some fairly big ones, some middle-of-the-road; but i was trying to think of what the most niche canon i recall writing for might be. maybe one of the dark chronicle protags, i thought. maybe yumi from ape escape 3.
then i remembered i still have the icons for when i wrote one of the backstory-heavy "class"es/origin characters from maplestory. yeah that's probably it.

Uh uh headcanons on what sex toys the Mercs would use?
Oooh good question!
Scout: Pillowcase
Soldier: Idk one of those rubber sleeves For Men that you stick your dick into, yes even if he's trans
Pyro: Plushie with hole cut into it. Also those fancy sparkly dildos
Demo: Bad Dragon-esque fantasy dildos. Also Eyelander
Heavy: Nothing. Rawdogs it constantly
Engie: Fuck machine of his own invention
Medic: Your guts. The nozzle of the Medigun. That pumpkin he put a brain inside of
Sniper: Whatever could be most easily made into an "outback boys make do" joke.
Spy: One of those really expensive fancy vibrators that's, like, rose gold or something. She never does it regularly either it's always like In The Bath or some bougie shit like that
BONUS ROUND:
Pauling: No sex toy headcanon but I think she jacks off to gun catalogs like issues of Playboy
Saxton Hale: Every time he thinks about punching an ape he immediately achieves orgasm
Admin: Never uses sex toys, but jacks off with her long nails because pain builds character
Zhanna: Pillowcase

Day 12
Album: In Utero by Nirvana
Have I listened before? not the whole album, but i'm sure i've heard at least one or two of these songs out in the wild before
Familiarity with the artist: i know Nirvana of course by reputation and by their biggest hits but I don't think I've ever willingly sat down and listened to them
Background Knowledge:
the third and final studio album by the American rock band Nirvana, released on September 21, 1993
although lead singer and songwriter Kurt Cobain claimed that the album was "very impersonal", many of its songs contain heavy allusions to his personal life and struggles
critics praised the album's raw, unconventional sound and Cobain's lyricism, and the album has been certified 6 times Platinum in the US and has sold 15 million copies worldwide
it was Nirvana's final album before Cobain's suicide, six months later
Interesting Info:
Nirvana wanted this album to sound more "raw", feeling that their last album Nevermind, had a too-polished production sound
after recording finished, rumors circulated that DGC might not release the album due to producer Steve Albini's abrasive and uncommercial sound. the album was mastered by Bob Ludwig to achieve a more desirable sound for both Nirvana and their label
Albini was known in the American independent music scene for his criticism of the mainstream music industry and had a strict preference for analog recording rather than digital. he had previously criticized Nirvana, calling them "R.E.M. with a fuzzbox", but accepted the job nonetheless because he felt sorry for them, being at the mercy of their major record label
Listened on: Apple Music
Listening Notes:
guitar sound is nice and loud
very 90s sounding (ofc lol)
not a fan of the screaming :/
"Heart-Shaped Box" is nice though- i like the growl and grit in his voice on this song on the chorus contrasted with the softer lyrics and instrumentals
the lyrics are interesting but sometimes they're kind of giving guy who thinks he’s being much deeper and mysterious than he really is
unfortunately “Rape Me” is very catchy
"Dumb" is nice i like the contrast between the lighthearted instrumental and melody contrasted with the almost sarcastic/depressed lyrics
not the screaming again 🙄
Favorite Tracks: "Heart-Shaped Box", "Dumb", "Very Ape", "All Apologies"
Final Review: this one is tough because obviously this album is very famous and considered iconic to 90s music history but at the same time i can't help but wonder how much of that is as a result of Kurt Cobain's death and if we would view the album differently if he hadn't killed himself. obviously he was going through a lot and felt that it was important to use this album as a kind of exorcism or outlet, and you can definitely hear that in the songs, but that doesn't automatically mean that i like them or think he was doing anything unique or profound in the way he chose to express his pain. i didn't like when John Lennon screamed on Plastic Ono Band, and i don't like the screaming here either! there are some nice songs on the album, and i have a feeling that if i went more into Nirvana's back catalog i think there would be things i would like a lot more, but unfortunately for the most part this just wasn't for me

Orkus - 2000
Thank to ramjohn for the scans!
Rammstein have retreated to the truly flat country to work on their long-awaited third studio album: In Mol, Belgium, there are only meadows, cows — and one of the most modern studios in Europe.
"We didn't come here entirely voluntarily," Schneider admits to the handful of German and English journalists who came to the Belgian hinterland on the weekend of the EM final to find out about the progress of activities for the Rammstein album, working title ‘Mutter’, which is expected at the beginning of next year  — to be informed. “Our engineer Jacob Hellner, who was also responsible for the last two albums, is tied to the Galaxy Studios. The technical possibilities here are fantastic and the working atmosphere is great, but there is hardly any variety.” But that's easy to imagine, because the complex, which is just under an hour and a half from Brussels Airport, is literally on a green field: Mol is a small village with maybe fifty low-rise family houses that look like a cross between the sample catalog of the local builders' merchant and the clinker brick building of the North German lowlands. English lawns, psychedelic splendor of roses, strictly trimmed boxwood and garden gnomes included. The large, blue clinker building rises almost like a foreign body between gardens and pastures with strangely pig-like, colorless cows. Illustrious guests like the Guano Apes, dEUS, Die Krupps or Such A Surge have worked here, as have Joan Osborne, Lauryn Hill and the Kelly Family. Olli's old mobile home seems a bit out of place in the parking lot of the high-tech sound company. “Tomorrow we're going back to Berlin,” he says happily. “Then on to Japan, where we will play the old program for the last time at the Fudji Rock Festival. Then we come back here to finish the mixes.” However, a large part of the album was created in the spring for a good six weeks in a studio in the south of France. "It was fantastic there," Richard recalls, "the studio was idyllically situated in the vineyards, and we were accommodated directly on the property. Till recorded part of the vocals in the living room of his apartment there and we had friends and relatives visiting.” Admittedly, the Berliners didn't do badly with the accommodation in Belgium either: They reside about 20 minutes by car from the studio in the country, house hotel and restaurant 'Hippocampus', which is one of the best in Belgium, which really has a lot of culinary highlights is applicable. "The food here is almost too good," admits Olli. (Which the journalists were able to easily convince themselves of later at dinner in the same restaurant!) “Sometimes we cycle from the hotel to the studio to stay fit.” Not a bad performance at around 14 kilometers one-way.
“Otherwise we replay the EM games and work concentrated on the album.” Despite the grueling production, the guys look fresh and fit, if just a little bit excited: “You're the first to hear some of the new tracks,” says Richard. “We are curious to see what you have to say about it.” In addition to the journalists, representatives from the label's Hamburg and London offices have also arrived — no wonder he's a little nervous. But before the eagerly awaited listening session in the light-wood paneled control room with the estimated five meter long mixing console, a typically Belgian pastime is the order of the day: the studio's own chef has set up a veritable monster buffet — meat, pasta, salads, fish and seafood, for dessert: Belgian chocolates. Fed up and satisfied, journalists and record company staff push their way through the complex's complex corridors to the place of revelation. And they certainly won't be disappointed: three finished pieces and three more in the raw version are blown around their ears in two rounds with studio loudspeakers costing x thousand marks. First impression: breathless. Barring another catastrophe of the magnitude of a total hard disk crash (Hard Disc Recording!), this will be the most fantastic Rammstein album ever. Powerful and aggressive, yet more differentiated than Herzeleid, the new material leans more in the direction of Sehnsucht. ‘Sonne’, the first track, is a super-catchy banger with siren-like female voices in the background and an abrupt end: «Aus». More please! ‘Links’ hits like a bomb: Oskar Lafontaine's famous book title as an obvious dig at all the hostilities of recent years and next to it a puristic song in the best Rammstein manner - except for the bluesy (!) solo. And this piece also ends far too quickly: 'Left, two three four...'. The next track also has a controversial subject: this is about a priest who feels attracted to his young protégés, in proper style with sacred choirs and bells. The three following rough mixes are announced as not yet finished, but they also promise something outstanding: ‘Mein Herz brennt’ is already very epic and reminds a bit of Puff Dandy's famous collaboration with Jimmy Page, here Till acts as a desperate children's fright. With a long, melancholic guitar solo and distinctive string riff, this might be the longest song presented. ‘Feuer frei’ seems the most electronic with its EBM rhythm, but impresses with ultra-fat riffs and crazy guitar effects. But this track also has a short, quiet middle part with noticeable synth sprinklings. "Bang Bang", the end - Rammstein seem to develop a preference for concise closing sentences on this album... Stylized children's babble marks the beginning of the most unusual and lyrically most personal of the songs presented: ‘Mutter’. Melancholic and balladesque, it comes across as a private reckoning with a traumatic, motherless childhood — less aggressive than deeply hurt. Although of course no savings were made on hearty lines of text.
After twice a good twenty minutes it's all over; Still a little dazed, but visibly enthusiastic, the crowd of critics staggers back to the surface. Predicate: particularly valuable — it would have to be hell if Rammstein weren't able to underpin their position as the most influential German band at the turn of the millennium with this album. Although there could still be a few surprises waiting for us between what we have just heard and the finished product: “We will be more varied,” promises Paul and grins, “the album should contain both punk influences and hits.” There still seems to be a lot to come!

MILWAUKEE (AP) _ One woman said she wanted to teach serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer about Jesus, so she sent him $350, along with some Bible literature.
Another woman sent $50 so that Dahmer could buy ″cigarettes, stamps and envelopes.″ And a 74-year-old nun sent $10 to reimburse Dahmer for postage on two art books that he mailed to her.
″He did awful things but way deep down he isn’t a mean kid,″ she said.
In all, Dahmer, who admitted killing and dismembering 17 men and boys, has received more than $12,000 from letter-writers around the world, according to prison records.
The gifts have come from as far away as South Africa and France, and include a $5,920 donation last year from a woman in London.
The money and letters are itemized in the files of Columbia Correctional Institution in Portage, where the 33-year-old Dahmer is serving life sentences, The Milwaukee Journal reported in Sunday’s editions.
People who send Dahmer money represent a very sick group of people around the world that contribute for whatever reason,″ said Thomas Jacobson, who represents relatives of victims.
The relatives have obtained judgments against Dahmer worth more than $80 million, but Jacobson said his clients have so far received nothing.
It is ″an absolute travesty″ that Dahmer isn’t sharing his donations, Jacobson said.
Jeffrey P. Endicott, the Columbia warden, said no law forbids Dahmer from soliciting financial assistance, as long as he does not commit fraud. But prison officials have restricted Dahmer’s spending since November, when they learned of the unpaid judgments.
According to prison records, which show how much money an inmate receives and how he spends it, Dahmer received $11,000 in 1993. His parents were among the donors.
Besides the donations, Dahmer earned 24 cents an hour as a prison gymnasium janitor. He lost that job because he imitated a prison employee on the telephone. The incident kept him in solitary confinement for more than a month.
In late January, according to the latest records available, Dahmer’s assets were $4,284. He has bought magazines, comic books and cassette recordings - including Gregorian chants and sounds of humpback whales - through catalogs.
In addition to exchanging letters, prison records say Dahmer uses Bible study and dark humor to deal with penitentiary boredom, which he is quoted as calling ″a living death.″
