What ratings do you write most of your fics under?

t! i'm not super surprised. i reckon most of my bktd stuff is t-rated lmao and they make up like a quarter of my entire ao3. m is my least used rating lmao (also not a surprise)

haikyuu (56), bnha (30) & aftg has now overtaken fe3h to come third with 13

sakusa kiyoomi (haikyuu, 33) which catches me off guard literally every time lmfao. bakugou katsuki & todoroki shouto (bnha) are tied second with 30 & then it's haikyuu and bnha the whole way down the rest of the list until #10, which is kevin day (aftg) with 12.

What are your top three pairings?

this one is really making me laugh bc they're all different fandoms LMAO and really speaks to my tendency to like... even when i write a bunch of different ships (see: haikyuu) to still have one ship per fandom that breaks away from the pack in terms of me writing it

this makes me laugh bc i can't decide whether or not i'm surprised by this HKJFDHKJSGAJKH 22 fics tagged introspection seems like a lot, especially when i do often write ensemble antics for haikyuu and bnha, but it's less than a fifth of this particular ao3 acc, so like... square the diff? idk! it's just interesting for me. this is fun ty for the tag clarence

Does any of this surprise you?

i knew the haikyuu and bnha stats generally speaking, like the characters and ships, and i'd had a sense kevaaron had taken the third spot in the ships (tbt may when i was staying with lex and wasn't sure kevaaron even SHOWED UP on my relationships sidebar until mari checked and confirmed for me... and now look at 'em), but i didn't know the ratings or the additional tags, and the additional tags surprised me! so did kevin's appearance in the character list, mostly because it meant i had to hunt through my aftg fics to figure out which fics certain characters appeared in. i'd have had to do that for haikyuu too normally, but i'd looked into that myself recently anyway lmao. it does always make me laugh to see the relationships tag stats on my ao3 bc it doesn't make it easy to guess all the things i like (e.g. my favourite hq ship is not represented anywhere on my ao3) but it does at the least indicate some things i really like lol

Do you think when Soundwave is stressed out Cosmos leads him outside to to teach him out to dance in space?

ABSOLUTELYYYY YOURE TOTALLY COMPLETELY ANF ENTIRELY CORRECT

Soundwave’s outlier ability makes him incredibly sensitive to noise. Even though he’s mastered his ability, it’s still easy to get overwhelmed and overstimulated with the noises and thoughts of everyone around him when he’s stressed.

It took a while for Cosmos to kinda realize what’s going on (Sky-Byte just says he does this sometimes and Laserbeak and Buzzsaw say it’s none of his business), but after a while he was able to find out that Soundwave’s shutdowns and long disappearances was because of stress and sensory overload (he managed to bribe Frenzy into telling him. Apparently it happens sometimes and usually Ravage could calm him down quick, but now she’s gone and Soundwave has to manage a whole space station by himself. The avians can calm him down, it just takes longer and leaves Soundwave a lot more tired).

So, After a particularly stressful day, Cosmos finds soundwave by himself trying to manage his stress (poorly), and Cosmos has an idea. He leads Soundwave to the airlock and asks him to trust him, and take them outside of the station.

It’s better out here, soundwave could still feel the noise from the station as they stand on the edge but he can feel himself calming down now that he’s away from the noise. Cosmos quietly hums to himself and squeezes Soundwave’s hand in a calming, rhythmic squeeze-and-release.

After a minute or so, Cosmos takes both of Soundwave’s hands and again asks him to trust him, before lightly launching them off of the station. In an instinctive spike of panic, Soundwave activates his trusters and clings tighter (closer) to cosmos but cosmos just laughs and leads them into a short spin before angling his own thrusters to a stop. Confused, but willing to trust Cosmos (and he is willing. He’ll trust cosmos with his spark if cosmos asked) soundwave cuts his own thrusters off. With just cosmos’ weight and the occasional quick jet of thrusters to steady themselves, they’re floating aimlessly.

No longer touching the station, everything is totally quiet. The noise is gone completely—only the gentle sound of the mechanisms in Cosmos’ frame and the bouncy loop of music in Cosmos’ processor remains.

Soundwave is not used to the total silence of space the way cosmos is (no fighting, no shooting, no chattering) so he’s nearly in awe of the peace of it all.

Cosmos laughs again. Soundwave can feel it reverberating through his frame from where they’re connected. The music Cosmos is repeating in his mind switches to a more subtle tune. He adjusts his grip on Soundwave’s arms and leads them into another light spin, moving and dipping with the music in his processor.

Soundwave follows along as best he can but ultimately lets Cosmos lead. Cosmos is happy to do so, Soundwave seems to have calmed down and his EM field is light with warm amusement and poorly hidden adoration.

They stay out there for as long as they can before the cassettes get sick of watching the gooey gross lovey dovey stuff and make them come back inside.

Hello friend! A friend of mine is doing a Stargate SG-1 rewatch and lamenting the slim pickings of fic on AO3. Do you know where she can find fic that perhaps is still on some old archive of yore? Or have any recs? She's mostly interested in Jack/Daniel and Jack/Sam. Ty!!

oh my. with all the love in the world to your friend visiting us from a very different fandom tax bracket than i have ever had the fortune to participate in (those two pairings have well over 6k fics each on ao3), i'll see what i can do!

[several hours of looking around later] bad news!! not much!

most of vintage sg-1 fandom was wiped out by expired domains, struck-through livejournals, ff.net's porn ban, yahoo lists, etc. some pages are still preserved in the wayback machine for heliopolis, the massive het-and-gen archive, and area52, the slash counterpart, but with the search and directory functions pretty much toast, they're almost impossible to navigate.

fanlore has an old list of archives (including plenty of jack/daniel ones). some smaller archives might yield wayback paydirt, especially if they were hand-coded. samandjack.net is still alive!

and, hate to say it, this was peak era for ff.net and they have like 30k fics over there... but all the explicit fic is gone.

i recently learned some people are still doing het-reccers (user-submitted fanfic recommendations, LJ archive is here). i don't know if any slash equivalents are still around (and i haven't looked at this site for genuinely fifteen years, so i can't speak to the quality of recs).

some sam/jack recs of mine; some of these authors multi-ship:

nanda: her resolution series especially should not be missed and i can't stress that enough. smut and action. fics great fics across the board.

it's kind of difficult to express how popular Salr323's fics were (under a different name) back in the day. i'm told that archive servers would crash when she posted something new. low on smut, high on PINING. rec: it was admittedly 1 am but as i recall this one made me feel like i'd just seen the fanfiction mona lisa

there are quite a few multifandom wonders who cut their teeth in this fandom, including missparker (rec: a small crime)

this cassandra fraiser fic dealt me some damage: nobody dies tonight by isawet

someone who's still in touch with her please harass splash_the_cat for writing 99 sg-1 fics and then walking away without cracking 100. lots of fun little snacks in there including this one

I just love the concept of Fandral being in love with loki, unable to say anything because loki is his Prince and thors little brother, except loki is fond of him as well. And even though fandral knows he really couldn't be with loki because of the all father and thor and the crowns reputation, when loki looks up at him he really really wants to kiss him.

Loki's bright and innocent eyes peering the couple of inches up at him through his dark lashes, yet to reach the growth spurt he needs to only be a little shorter (because I love taller fandral). A small but *knowing* and *adoring* smile tugging at his lips, and the balm he wears to care for his lips as well as he cares for his skin makes them shiny. Fandral wants to know if they'd be soft against his own.

Equally, Loki loves how kind fandral is, even loves that he refuses to kiss him even though they both know he wants to. It's sweet, that fandral cares so much for his reputation that he refuses to do what he wants. But honestly, if the charming fool doesn't so something soon loki will just pull him into some unused hall and lean up to kiss him himself.

That's almost what happens- though it's fandral that pulls loki aside. He invites him on a walk through a quiet and disrepaired part of the gardens, summons flowers with the small spark of seidr that he has and, when loki accepts them with a shy look and a flush on his cheeks, he leans down to gently press a kiss to his lips. Loki kisses back, of course, because *finally* he is getting what *he* wants for a change and not what his father wants or "what's best for him".

There's a lot of sneaking around but they don't mind. Loki loves to be mischievous, and fandral is good at blending in in plain sight.

No beta we die like mne is just an objectively funny tag, i've considered using it on stories that I *did* get beta'd (and i'm not the only one, judging from some variations)

Sometimes is a beloved character who's death is painful to the fandom. I've seen people apologize for using the tag

Sometimes is a character who's death pretty much everyone rooted for (e.g. Jin Guangshan, Shou Tucker)

sometimes is a character where the whole point is That Bitch Came Back to Keep Causing Problems. Wei Wuxian and Jason Todd are very popular in their respective fandoms for this. I like this, I think really captures the spirit of fic writing.

of course it's even funnier if That Bitch *keeps* dying and coming back over and over. (Only seventeen uses of "no beta we die like Daniel Jackson", but i love every one of you)

What I haven't seen is "no beta we die like [character that doesn't even die]". (Well, I've seen fics that used Midoriya and Jin Ling, but in both cases they were fics where said character did (temporarily) die)

Even funnier I think would be "no beta we die like [character that cannot die]" which might be difficult b/c even very immortal characters, people can probably come up with edge cases. But, idk, the fungus from that one viral post. Jones from Gunnerkrigg Court. idk send me your unkillable blorbo and I'll check if they have a no beta tag.

sometimes i find it so funny when ppl dont properly tag their works for the reason of “oh, but then others won’t be able to see my work!” or “but if i tag it then it will spoil the twist!” (usually a darker or more… questionable twist, for a lack of better words) and so on. but that… that is literally the whole purpose of tagging? so that the ppl who have the tag(s) filtered because they dont want to see it just. wont.

like dw, ur work will reach ur audience one way or another bc theyre either following u, see it rbed on their dash, or they dont have it filtered; tho that will also have ppl who dont want to see it exposed to it so, for the love of god and the sake of our sanities, pls just list the warnings beforehand like it really isnt such a difficult concept to grasp ???

and bold it, especially if it is in the small text. the whole purpose is for it to be easily visible for the very reason that it can be avoided by readers who dont want to read it. idc if it ruins the aesthetic bc the lack of proper tagging ruins my already declining sanity :]
