another character from die as lovers may, my funney vampire story... had this design bouncing around in my brain for years honestly
[image description: a reference image for an original character named dr. pranali guin, a fat, older dark-skinned woman that has black hair with a white streak pulled into an updo. she is wearing a tight white dress with a cropped black jacket and an orange ribbon around her neck. next to her are blurbs stating that she is 55, that her pronouns are she/her, that she is an aroace woman, and the following: "acclaimed sexologist who is rather humorless. incredibly suspicious of rowan, but isn't quite sure why. not as stern as she looks. has really bad eyesight, but refuses to wear glasses out of spite. loves melodramatic soap operas and keeps a journal detailing every plot point in them. probably autistic." end id]
#she's not the most important character plot wise but she's been a part of the outline of it for years#if you have noticed the very obvious and very silly pattern among all of the scientists in dalm kudos to you#spoilers. it has no metaphorical or subtextual significance. i just thought it would be funny#i mean it has a bit of significance i guess? but its not very serious#anyways. where are my old lady enjoyers. i have a lady for you#also let me say that dalm takes place Vaguely in the 80s and rowan and pam are really the only characters involved in the queer culture-#-of the time so i dont think pranali would actually like. self-indentify as aroace. but like. She Is. so im putting it anyway#even though typically i write the identities as how they indentify themselves. such is why geo's always has a question mark#none of this is important i just like rambling bc i put a lot of thought into this stuff#doc talks#my art#my characters#maybe i should make tags of my different stories. why dont i do that already.#may as well start here i guess. if i remember to do this later#die as lovers may

Was trying to figure out what my favorite abnos are and made a tier list to figure it out and realized I like dream of a black swan Way more than I thought I did
#rat rambles#to be clear meh isn't bad just completely neutral eh is slightly bad#most of them are just petty grudges but I do legitimately find child of the galaxy a bit disappointing unfortunately#I really like some of the concepts behind it I just feel like the execution doesnt land#which also applies to several other abnos child of the galaxy just also happens to be built like a doll maker character#bestie has one of my least favorite designs in the entire game I just do not jive with the vibes#the others are mostly just me finding them boring or having gameplay related beef with them#knight of despair would probably be in better graces with me if she wasnt the weakest of a trio where the other two are sick as hell#like Im not the biggest queen of hatred enjoyer in the world but I do rly like her#and king of greed is both sick as hell conceptually and also was my first waw abno#oh and to be clear I am not an old lady voucher shes conceptually very boring but I like her anyways#shes delightful to me and also she has one of my favorite ego gifts#also yes I do in fact like nameless fetus it was my second he abno and also caused me many problems <3#I also just like its logs and feel bad that it's whole gimmick got snatched by censored#I love censored but not cool bestie#little red used to be one of my top faves but as time has gone on Ive become more neutral towards her#I still like her shes just not top favorite anymore#censored would be much higher in my good graces if it weren't for that I have a lot of appreciation for censored#it was my first aleph afterall#but also I enjoy its execution story wise a lot more than I thought I would when first seeing it#generally ~incomprehensible~ horror tends to fall flat often to me as it often feels like the writer going 'just trust me bro it's scary'#but censored actually feels like it Is something y'know? like you're given just enough to make it feel like it is smth that exists and not#just a writer telling you youre supposed to be scared of what is ultimately functionally nothing because they wont yell you shit#also the gameplay of censored is generally quite good asside from the stolen roulette gimmick#but I like nameless fetus a lot and find it massively disappointing that what should have been its big thing was stolen by a bigger fish

Me when I started to worry they would genuinely make that lady Susan (I love Susan and did NOT want her to be that bad vibes lady)
Also this is your reminder to... Watch Classic Who wherever you can find it!! It's a really enjoyable show to put on while getting things done in the house or multitasking :)) and it's okay to skip Doctors, it's just too long not to. There's no shame in watching a show for fun.. as in watching how you enjoy it most. We're all true fans no matter how much we have seen. I personally watch at least the first and last story arc per Doctor as my rule right now, though I have seen a LOT of the First and I don't want to miss ANY Fourth at this moment (I'm on him right now.)
Nobody knows what I mean when I talk about that ridiculous space worm that was literally. And I mean GENUINELY. Just green bubble wrap around a guy. You're missing out on so many goofy effects, but also some clever editing for the time and some stories that are really exciting! And some boring ones! But the boring ones are when I get my things done so thank the writers for my productivity
Do yourself a favor and sit down while this senile old man uses a blue box to NEVER get where he intends to go. Realize how little things really have changed. Marvel at the stories somehow drawn out into 6 episodes. Make fun of it. Love our show and know that we are the luckiest fans because we will NEVER run out of content :]
Acquiring it is the hard part... If I could make mine available to you all I would... What harm would there be in the BBC putting it up somewhere for us? The old Moomins series was given to us free on YouTube and look at how that franchise has flourished!! I don't think anyone will probably read my 1am paragraphs but we should really just team up and grovel and maybe BBB (Big British Broadcasting (lol)) will let us have it 🥺
Anyways here's an unrelated keysmash from gebratenekinder https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B5yMKWVStuN3RDJmYlU4eEhBSDA?resourcekey=0-24FTXxiK6QtXBnlj0MECbw

reposting my old twitter thread regarding venom (2018), which a friend once said should be printed on the back of the dvd case. screenshots aren't working but they'd be redundant with the image ID anyway. if you want the 🌟Full Experience🌟 the original thread is [here].
[1/10] ok i just watched the venom movie for the first time and yall? let me level with you. real talk. full frontal honest hot take.
shit was amazing.
[2/10] like you know that whole shit with video games where people just get so into it and the completionism and the competitive scene and the graphics and whatever and youre like yeah ok but is it like. fun
thats me with venom vs mcu
[3/10] like goddamn. i had fun. i loved it. i saw it and it was an enjoyable experience for me and i liked watching it.
with mcu im all no i get that this is an installment of a series that has a greater overarching plot and shit but like.... am i gonna enjoy it? at all?
[4/10] me looking at mcu movies like am i gonna feel an echo of an iota of entertainment anywhere in my being at any point during this movie or nah?? and most of the time its a solid nah!!! but tom hardy just showed me a good goddamn time!!!!!
[5/10] like man. you talk about disaster characters? i thought i had seen disaster characters. eddie turbofucks his life into the ground with great prejudice. he makes dysfunction an art form. he hits rock bottom and pulls out a jackhammer and thats BEFORE the alien
[6/10] like i spent the front half of the movie going dude. who even allowed this dude to be a protag of anything. who said yep lets make this guy the main character, that seems acceptable
and then around the climax i realized that they HAD to for the plot to work
[7/10] like just imagine how shit wouldve gone were eddie not an eighteen wheeler fucktruck tire fire. if the man were capable of catching a whiff of a phantom of the dessicated corpse of his own common sense none of this would have worked
[8/10] like any human being who is even .0005% more functional than eddie (i.e. anyone on the planet) would not have responded like 'hey actually? i LIKE having this cannibal monster alien controlling my body. i think this is GOOD. im gonna KEEP IT.' like eddie what in the whole fuck.
[9/10] this guy is not even there!!! the whole time!!! nothing behind this dude's eyes. he started dissociating shortly before meeting the scientist lady and he just never fuckin stopped. the lights are all off upstairs. this dude is checked out and he is NEVER coming back.
[10/10] final point the dialogue was just fucking phenomenal start to finish. just absolutely batshit nuts what was coming out of everybody's mouths. and the delivery was stellar, like the wack shit they were saying was completely normal and fine. i'd like to shake that writer's hand
BONUS:
[ID: a graphic that reads, in all caps: "disclaimer: black panther and thor 3: ragnarok are exempt from this statement" and in lowercase: "(captain america 2: the winter soldier you're on thin fucking ice)". end ID]
#venom#venom 2018#mcu negative#feel free to use that graphic. credit would be keen i guess#might crosspost some more of my twitter threads#ive done some absolute bangers on there if i may say so myself

hi. your turn. what if you talked about your ocs teehee. stares at you with sparkly eyes
ooohhhh. ohhhhhhh. hooohoohooohhh. you messed up. you messed up big time. I'm on my computer now and you have to bare this hellstorm you brought up. hoohhhh
okay first we're going over Morble. because he's been on my mind lately teehee.
okay where are my pictures of him hold on. hold ond
marby mooby mamb. . .
okay so he's three years old now. I have to say that. I made him a few days before my birthday. it's horrible. we were similar ages now I'm OLD and he's also a lot older now but at the same time he's NOT. why are you in sixth grade still marbs. why.
anyways. He was made after another spurt of my enjoyment of The Weekly Roll on webtoon; it's a dungeons and dragons type webtoon, Morble is inspired by Sir Becket(he's now Lord Becket. good for you Becket). Becket's a Paladin, Morble's a Paladin. I dunno. It's neat.
that's not the neatest part about Morble though! You see. He's from a modernish dnd-like world. so uhm. basically he's kinda boring. besides being like an orphan or whatever. wait no before I move on to other bits I'm just gonna go in order of what happens.
Morble's basically just a little guy. he's just a fella. uh. he has a brother and HAD. two parents OH ACTULLY I RELALY LIKE HIS PARENTS HOLD ON I HAVE DRAWINGS OF THEM.
Katty and Mavrick. I like them a lot. these are them at maybe like early to mid twenties? around the time they got together(they went to the same highschool but met in collage and really connected at that point. they're so awesome together). they are SO neat to me.
Kat is a nice lady; she's like 6'1 and has a real hearty laugh. She's so sweet and so cool I love her so much. Mavrick is fucking deranged. He's an absolutely spunky ball of chaotic energy. He has no self preservation skill and is just an absolute goober. He's great. Everytime I imagine these two I just think of the rabbits with the "rabbit obsessed with his giant girlfriend who's 4x times his size" because he IS. They are looking at eachother thinking "I love my wife". Marvrick you are so wife. it doesn't help that he took her last name. Katty and Maverick Moor. . .
Kat was a firefighter for the longest time. Mav was a chaotic fencer and fence instructor. he's stupid with it though. His ass didn't like wearing protective gear half the time because of his confidence and lack of preservation skills. He died of a collapsed lung oneday when Morble was about nine.
teehee. mav's a little fabric guy tho. he knits. he sews. he embroiders. uhhhmmm. In that second image of Morble up here with the purple background! He's wearing a red cloak! Maverick made it for him and was gonna give it to him for his birthday. neat. obviously he couldn't. Kat gave it to him because. Well. Yeah.
Morble had a hard time with his dad being dead. I mean. what's a 9 year old supposed to do when your dad dies. it kinda sucks. Kat was going over some family history and going through some old heirlooms and stuff. The Moor's are from a pretty long line of Paladins spanding at least 500 years back(heehoo. hold onto that information). Turns out! There's also a great helm made by one of these Paladins from 500 years ago. Katty pulled it out of storage or whatever and gave it to Morble because he thought he might like it. Because it's neat. Morble loved it. literally has never taken it off.
A couple months after Mav died, Kat died while on the job. kinda fucked up. It's totally my fault for that but. Morble doesn't have to know that. But sucks for him. his brother too but he's a 4yo he doesn't really. know what's happening. but still sucks.
Morble and his brother move in with their grandma and stepgrandma. I don't have anything on them. but yeah.
Fastforward when Morble's 12. bc they had to move they're in a new school and stuff. nobody knows about dead parents or any symbolism in anything. yeah. he's kinda bullied but he just kinda shrugs it off. he's not that kind of guy.
anyways. now we're getting tot he fun parts. Morble walks from school to his grandma's apartment. there's a neat little field kinda inbetween the walk. onepoint Morble noticed a little glimmer near one of the super old trees over there. dunno how he caught it but he did(plot reasonings are why). anwyays.
morble goes over. turns out it's a neat little ring. he grabs it.
BOOM. he fucked up. the ring is magic. he gets swallowed up into some weird current thing the only way I've thought about what it's like is. basically imagine the sky is a giant fuckingthing of water and you can't breathe. it feels like drowning.
once he gets oout of it and recovers from the drowning feeling or whatever. he's like. where the hell am I. Because it's completely different from where he just was. which was like a dewy day or whatever. right now he's in super tall fields with grass and shit.
well. heehoo. yk how I said paladins go back about 500 years in his family? well. heehoo. heehoo. guess what.
Magic ring was really fucking magic and wahoo! Time traveling. I know. Wild. I don't know what I was thinking when I made him do that but it's integral to his character now so I can't change it.
Turns out. there's a little Party down a head from the road he got spat out right next to. turns out. hoo boy. The paladin in the party is an ancestor of Morble's. Got the same helm and everything. turns out he's the guy who MADE the helm actually. His name is Hearth. Hearth Moor. he's pretty cool.
about. uhhh. I dunno maybe 10 years go by? yeah Morble basically gets situated to being 500 years offset from his actual timeline. he's been looking for a way to get back for the entire time but. there hasn't been much luck. so he's just chillin.
he's 22 at this point. He sticks with Hearth and the whole party which I only vaugely got. then they go to fight a red dragon for some reason. no biggie.
hearth fucking gets clobbered and dies. which sucks. they retreat. then morble has the bright idea of well. I'm gonna go fight this dragon myself and WIN. avenge him or whatever. like an idiot. you remember how your dad died, right, morby? you little fucker.
anyways.he goes and fights this dragon. and somehow! for whatever reason! motherfucker wins. chops off his head and brings it back into town. he almost died tho. bro's bleeding like all hell. so yeah he has to spend some time being not fucking dead.
okay you know how I did that serval vs brown tabby poll yesterday. well. that was on our next character, Coraline.
coraline. the baddie. she's so cool.
she's a serval now btw. the poll said so and I was digigng the design more than the brown tabby. anyways.
She's a bard! She's working at the tavern the party was staying at. She basically became Morble's nurse because. because. she'd sing him songs and shit. Her voice claim is actually. uhhhhhhh. The son Rich by Cosmo Sheldrake and the other person that worked on it. yeah.
Coraline joins the party whenever they get back on their feet. The Tavern keeps the dragons head because Morble said they could. They go from 'The Hollow Tavern' to 'The Hollow Dragon's Tavern'. p neat.
uh. yeah. Next two years Coraline and Morble get kinda close. they like eachother but Morble's fucking stupid. he's a shy little himbo. what a goober.
that's basically all I got on canon for him tbh. I like to twirl him around in my head. I have one pathway where Marby finds a way to go back to his timeline. when he's 12. he was missing for about two months tho. 12 years turned into 12 weeks. yeah. sucked for everyone around them. but mostly morble because he's now 24 in a scrawny 12 yearold's body and going to 6thgrade classes. and everybody thinks he's 12 and doesn't know where he's been for like two months and he won't tell anyone because nobody would believe him if he shrugged and said Yeahhh I picked up a magic ring and I was stuck 500 years ago for 12 years! No biggie!! yeah. Morble just kinda goes about like tho after that and becomes a highschool history teacher and works at the local museum. he's really neat. He also is super funky when it comes to his classroom decorations because he has a wall of swords and an entire replica of the suit of heavy armor he used to wear. he's also deranged and under his clothes and leather jacket he has like. jackchains, chainmail(lining his jacket), greaves, and. I think something else but I forgot what. he's wild. I just really like to put him in the salad spinner of my head and think about him with things teehee. twirls hair kicks feet.
yeah. you fucked up with this ask tho. I have more. I'm talking about Harry now. maybe Kinglen if I feel like it. let me get my things fo harry.
this be harry. harry hearthorn. I'm obsessed with him. he's so fucking funny. you'll have to excuse the things of Alphonse and stuff in that last one. I'm gonna be using. him for dnd <3
I love Harry. He's from a military type country or whatever. it's. it's not the best. they're like. I don't know how to describe it. think of amestris but less "we wanna take over the world" and more "we like war and we want more" or whatever. you understand. it's a weird one.
there's like three main branches of jobs. military, research and development slash the sciences, and basically 'entertainment'. entertainers are literally just everything that doesn't fall into the other catagories. these are like artists and show runners and broadcasters and radio hosts and other things of the sort.
school works in this place by being 12 years just like 'merican schools(EAGLE SCREECH GUNSHOTS FIREWORKS). but the first 8 you are just doing general stuff. the 9 and 10th are for pinning down what branch you're going into. and 11 and 12 are getting experience in your field. this is mainly getting mentorships and other stuff, witht he execption of the military branch
Military only has one place to go. If you're going into the military at 16, you're goign STRAIGHT To tht emilitary at 16.
Harry's mom was in the R&D branch, Harry's dad was in the military. they met at a bar. they're funny. both bisexual which is REALLY funny because Harriet is ALSO bisexual and Harry is bicurious-aspec. harry's mom is 6'1 btw. Harry's 6'5. justlittle stuff. I think I named her Maria. his dad is named Henry.
anyways. Harry and Harriet., they are siblings. Harriet is two years older than Harry. though it's funny bc their full names are Harrison and Harriet. but. Harriet is Harry. And Harrison is Harriet. they had a sense of humor.
ATM harry is 31. Harriet is 33 and a senior broadcaster at one of the shownetworks or whatever. Maria is retired. Henry died while on duty when Harry and Harriet were lke 12 and 14.
anyways. Harry wanted to go into the science or military branches. like his parents. His scores were leaning more to being althetic and shit so he got put into the military. he's been there like. ever since. he barely goes home bc he feels no need and because there's an active war(a really long one. . . neither side will stop. . . they really like war) and he just. didn't feel the need. but they forced him to go home a few times when he got like. shot and stabbed and stuff. yeah he's a g like that. did I mention he's a first lieutenant btw. he's a first lieutenant bc I said so.
anyways. his downfall is when onetime. after making a bad call sends the part of his platoon he's with through a part of whereever they are. one fo the younger guys. steps on a landmine. out of like, 14 soliders, only three of them survive. harry, someone else who was closer to the mine, and a younger one that was farther away and practically unscathed. Harry lost his leg and most of his hearing in his right ear and all of it in his left. teehee
anyways. after his main amount of recovery. he's still in the military but they don't put him on any active duty despite him BEGGING for it. because of the PTSD mainly and because he's depressed as fuck secondarly. yeah. basically it sucks for him really bad. he gets put on staff duty indefinetly. also I have to mention Harry fucks. severially. I mentioned that he's aspec. like. arospec. he is not acespec. he fucks.
anyways. basically he's depressed as fuck because. he accidently killed a bunch of guys and ptsd is kicking his ass. he tries to drink his worries away and doesn't care about what kind of trouble he gets into with the drinking and getting caught with girls and stuff. he gets put onto suicide watch after an incident with a lower ranking guy. yeah.
at that point they decide the best option is to just. give him an honorable discharge. so they do that. Harry has to move in with his mom and sister. he does that. everything sucks for him. yeah
at some point after his birthday he decides well. this fucking sucks. I hate this. I'm leaving. he grabs like his old uniform, and money, and a pack, and a pack of smokes and just. hitchhikes. out of the country. without fucking telling anyone. he calls Harriet and his mom after he's out of the country like "heyyy. I'm. I'm out west or whatever. gonna. figure something out here." and they're like WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK MAN. WHAT THE HELL. but he writes them letters and calls them ebcause they can't really do jack about it. yeah
so. basically he's just hitchhiking till he gets to another country. which he does and then basically he tried to do some freelance work or something. then he finds a little group who are gonna basically take down the government. I dunno that's where the campaign is gonna start methinks. Harry might get himself a funny little dragonborn boyfriend. yeah. okay I have to shower and. actually do stuff teehee I rolls out of bed and went straight to my puter to talk about these guys. so teehe. I'm so hungry I need water.
OH OH HOLD ON. uhhmmm here's old art of morble. spannign from 3 years ago to a couple months ago. teehee
neat. the third one is the very very VERY first thing I did of him ever in existance. second one is one I did and the first one is a redraw from months later. the last one is me just doodling him months ago and pinning down his design again. I changed his helm bc it made no sense.
OKAY I’M GOING I’M GOING FALLS TO THE FLOOR AND ROLLS AWAY LIKE A LOG
#from the pouch#asks#ocs#my ocs#oc art#yeah sure that's good. teehee. prances away#I might actually come back witha reblog or two and talk about my other guys but my mom might yell at me if I don't shower now so buhbye#this got really sloppy but IDC IDC#OKAY BYE

okayyy… i know this is going to be controversial… but i actually think kamo having a crush on reader is endearing? 🤭
DONT GET ME WRONG I LOVEEE MEGUMI (MEGUMI IS ENDGAME), but kamo liking reader is kind of cute? it reminds me of highschool all too well…
it also means, MEGUMI, STAND UP!!! he’s had so many chances! you can’t blame kamo, he asked (not wanting to completely be a home wrecker) and reader is seemingly up for grabs.
anyways, AGGHGGHGFYUV i love ur writing! its not very often these days where i’ll be able to reread a whole fanfic, and still be kicking my feet and giggling! the first few chapters, while lacking in plot, were still SO enjoyable!!! you truly have a gift for writing!!!🫶
p.s. i keep hearing this stupid sound on tiktok of an old lady singing “liar liar pants on fire” and i can only think of this lovely fic!
as the author, i agree 😭
it’s still so amusing to see everyone going apeshit with kamo HAHAHAHA, like as much as i’m like ‘guys, no 😔’ i’m also like ‘yes! get him! 🫨’.
you’re factually correct for that part tho — that he asked and made his move once he learned that he’s got no competition (allegedly 👀).
high school drama is exactly what i’m trying to depict here 🫣
‘MEGUMI, STAND UP!!!’ is so real, but that kid has absolutely 0 game so it’s like watching someone run through a never ending tunnel 💀
AHHHH YOU LOVE MY WRITING 🥹🫨😋🙂↕️😫💘💗💞❤️💜 i love you sm, your message itself has me kicking my feet and giggling UGHH <333
those first few chapters, despite lacking in plot (kinda), were still super fun during the writing process and i’m glad you had a good time reading it too! 😫💞
p.s. on the hunt to look for that sound LMAOO
#liar liar asks!#loving how everyone’s kinda living their own lives and coming across random#things and thinking of liar liar#YES#we’ve got to that point!!!!#i love my liar liar family sm#🥹💜#cuties#and this anonnnn#infuriating things about them i’ve noticed#specifically with liar liar#1. they’re either batshit CRAZY (the malakai drama ahem)#or 2. they’re just the sweetest EVER and they don’t have a url for me to stalk and love them openly 😔#like this anon#ugh ilysm#<3

Reading This Week 2024 #33
As warned, I come to you a day late because I was out of my house from 7:20am to 9:20pm. That time out was planned but also along the way my car battery died so I've sent it to the shop to get it looked at
I've really been in the zone with audiobooks this week, and I also worked on reading through the comic books I've had languishing on my shelf
Finished:
Blue Box, Vol. 1 by Kouji Miura, translated by Christine Dashiell cute manga about some students at a very sports focused high school, badminton playing boy protagonist with a HUGE crush on basketball playing upperclassman girl. pretty cute, great art
Stone Butch Blues by Leslie Feinberg I am so glad that my library system had a physical copy of the 20th anniversary edition. It felt like an honor to hold this book in my hand. As expected, I cried at several points reading this. I have to say though, the mythos that has sprung up around this book (on tumblr but I'm sure elsewhere) as a Lesbian Book really really undersells how much this book's perspective is just as much if not more Working Class. it's a book about labor and difficulty making ends meet while butch: Jess' decision to pass as a man is certainly a gender-identity based decision but crucially it is also a financial one in hopes of getting a better job. Anyway. read the actual book
Remina by Junji Ito, translated by Jocelyn Allen read to keep up with Shelved by Genre. didn't like this one
Boys Weekend by Mattie Lubchansky recommended by a friend, graphic novel where a transfem attends the bachelor party of their old college buddy while the casino town they're in is taken over by a tech-startup-cult
The Empire of Gold by S.A. Chakraborty, narrated by Soneela Nankani okay yeah I spent like the last 2 hours of the audiobook jumping up and down my hallway. this was pretty rad, thanks for the rec dad. if you, like me, are put off by the YA characterization vibes in the first book, the characters do grow up
only fooling yourself by volefriend on ao3
System Collapse by Martha Wells, narrated by Kevin R. Free the murderbot diaries are always great
Jonny Appleseed by Joshua Whitehead, narrated by the author recommended to me by a friend! interesting and matter of fact perspective on racialized sex work from a two-spirit person
The Marlow Murder Club by Robert Thorogood, narrated by Nicolette McKenzie I'm going to come clean, I read this because I forgot the title of The Thursday Murder Club. however I really enjoyed this band of middle aged and older british ladies becoming friends and solving murders
Good Deeds #1-2 written by Che Grayson, art by Kelsey Ramsay, colors by Ronda Pattison comic about a small Florida town with unsettling supernatural stuff happening. I will be tracking down the other issues
Washed in the Blood #1 written by Kevin Roditeli, art by Rob Cannon, Kostas Pantoulas, and Vivi Ekhart the art and the lettering in this comic is crazy fun, but the story might be too "ooh so edgy" for me. I'll keep an eye out for the other issues but wont prioritize it
Crashing #1-3 written by Matthew Klein, art by Morgan Beem, colors by Triona Farrell miniseries focused on a doctor treating superpowered patients. absolutely going to find the other two issues of it, I need to see where this ends
What Feasts at Night by T. Kingfisher sequel to What Moves the Dead. it wasn't as good as the first one but it was still pretty enjoyable horror
Started/Ongoing:
The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch, narrated by Michael Page so excited to be reading this for the sff bookclub. too clever for their own good con man scoundrels are a favored character type of mine
Invisible Kingdom, Vol. 1: Walking the Path written by G. Willow WIlson, art by Christian Ward scifi comic that looked cool! a comic book shop employee recommended it to a friend, and I remembered I'd seen it at my library so I picked it up to check out (gorgeous scifi art)
little warrior by kathkin on ao3 read the next chapter :)
chapter 9 of follow the sun by verdantstars on ao3 new chapter out of a fire emblem three houses fic i like!
DNFs:
The Collected Poems of Audre Lorde this is hopefully just a temporary dnf. it was due back at the library and i did not have time to finish reading it before then. with any luck I'll check it out again when i have a bit more poetry reading motivation
Ragnarok by A.S. Byatt, narrated by Harriet Walter
Portrait of a Thief by Grace D. Li, narrated by Eunice Wong and Austin Ku
Reading Plans:
obviously The Lies of Locke Lamora is on my reading plan list bc its the sff book club pick for september! and I'll be reading Sensor to keep up with Shelved by Genre
other books I have out from the library and want to try out but may not finish reading: Bloom Into You Vol. 2 by Nakatani Nio, The Sprite and the Gardener by Rii Abrego and Joe Whitt, Female Husbands: A Trans History by Jen Manion, narrated by Kate Harper, The River of Silver by S.A. Chakraborty, narrated by Soneela Nankani
and I want to read more of the books that exist on my physical bookshelves. some of that I've been doing by borrowing the audiobook versions of them (like Jonny Appleseed and System Collapse above) but others dont have that option

Thanks for the tag @snowcoffeee ! I'm all too happy to talk about my favourite hobby!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
At the moment, I have six.
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
281,816. Yikes, I didn't even know this was a statistic until now.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Just Undertale right now.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Have Some Empathy, Dear - the series I did for Bad Sansuary.
The Hand We've Been Dealt - the first fic I posted on AO3.
Swarmed By Sirens - the most recent fic I'm working on.
The Nightmare of Apathy - my pet project.
Raccoon's Undertale Related Oneshots - this one shouldn't really count as it's just a collection of my works.
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Every single one! I really enjoy engaging with the people who like my work and it gives me ideas.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Oof, I don't like angsty endings so I can't say that I have any. In the past, I wrote a oneshot with one of my OC's in Horrortale though. That was...angsty. It's also really bad compared to what I write now lol. I don't think I'll ever post it.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
At the moment, Have Some Empathy, Dear is the only complete fic. So that one.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
No, at least I haven't yet. I did get one comment ages ago where someone was annoyed that Korinna (MC from The Hand We've Been Dealt) just went to live with the Fell brothers after they killed her when she was a human. She didn't know that it was them though, so the comment didn't make sense? Admittedly, the plot for that fic is a bit weak...
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Nah, I've been tempted to, but I'm not comfortable making that sort of thing. I allow minors to follow me anyways, so if I did, that would have to change.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
AU's don't count as a crossover I suppose. So, no, I don't write crossovers.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I'm aware of?
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No, but I'd be honoured if anyone wanted to!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Again, no. I have chatted with friends about fic plots but never for the purpose of creating something together. That could be fun!
14. What’s your all time favourite ship?
I'm more of a self-shipper and pretty much always have been OC x Canon as well. I do like Soriel. The way some people write their dynamic is adorable and even if they aren't in a relationship, I love seeing their friendship. I don't really ship anything else though.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Pretty much everything with my old Undertale OC's and my old Star Wars OC. My reasons are that I've changed my interests and created better characters now. I'm not entirely opposed to ever posting these online but the state that they're in at the moment makes me cringe.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Definitely describing environments and worldbuilding. I have a strong imagination and so whenever I write a scene I try to put myself in the character's position and describe what they see. Worldbuilding is also enjoyable since it gets my brain working.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Dialogue. I struggle to make characters sound natural at times and my earlier writing suffers lot from stiff dialogue.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I love this! I don't really know any other languages myself so my own attempts are limited, however I love seeing it in other people's works. I do like to include ASL where I can since it's a language I have some familiarity with.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Star Wars actually. I had a Jedi turned Sith character in a years long message board roleplay and multiple times I attempted to write down a backstory for her but I never finished. After being convinced to join the Sith, she was an Inquisitor for a bit before being promoted to Sith Lady and training a few apprentices. She briefly became Sith Empress but stepped down when the war with a faction of Mandalorians turned ugly. She hasn't been seen or heard from since... Yeah, no, I just lost interest in the character and SW in general with Disney's takeover.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
I love pretty much all of them! I think my favourite is Have Some Empathy, Dear but I do wish I had more time to flesh parts of it out at the time. Otherwise, it's The Nightmare of Apathy.
#raccoons rambles#ask game#i couldn't help it#i wrote this instead of sleeping#i have a headache so i'm gonna go try to fix that now

The Lady of The Lake
Had this recurring dream again where I was a part of a ghost hunter style cryptid find show. One of my old friends Elijah was in it. We needed film ideas. It was a chill thing. The main guy would ask us what ideas we had. Leader guy says what if we could make anything what would we make. Black hair girl says a coffee machine. Blonde hair girl says a fishing rod with fishing line and all.
These meetings always take place in my parents’ back yard for whatever reason. The leader guy is the producer just for the record.
Anyway Elijah says “depends on for what.” Then he says jokingly “what are you a cop?” Producer guy chuckles and says no it’s not that kind of show. Then asks me what I would make. I say it depends on the context of who I’m making something for. “You guys gotta be able to come up with something on the spot, it’ll help,” the producer states. Then we notice that Elijah is outside the fence now starring at what appears to be a pond nearby. We all walk over and ask him hey what’s up what’s going on and try to check on him. He says “you guys see her right?” The producer has a grim look on his face and says sternly & loudly “that’s the lady of the lake, look away!!” He also takes out his camera, starting to film. “Whenever you spot the lady of the lake you need to look away immediately and imagine to yourself scenarios where she is killed, dead, ripped in half, anything and say them loud and proud as factual”, he says. “If you do not do this, she will keep getting closer whenever you look for her even if it’s just to find out if she’s getting closer and she’ll take you unless you declare her death as factual,” he also states.
Some of us start looking for her but I look away at first from the pond because I don’t want to aggro the lady of the lake onto me. It’s like SCP Shy Guy Rules but you can turn off her chase state by declaring her death out loud & proud. When you blink or look away after making eye contact it teleports closer to you every time until it’s completely upon you. Elijah in a panic says “the lady of the lake was eaten by bears? He sounds even more scared now and squeaks up “guys, she’s gotten closer!!!” Producer tells him to remember to say her death loudly and proudly. I’m still looking away out of fear so I can’t say for sure what was happening but I hear Elijah take a deep breath in and tell “the lady of the lake was mauled to death by bears this afternoon and tragically died due to bleeding out!!” Elijah has sighed and said he couldn’t see her anymore and had returned back to the group to hang out with me. I never did see what she looked like, but when I asked Elijah he was too afraid to describe her out of fear that it would aggro her once more onto him.
We have a lunch break and one of my old friends Izzy was like yo Rose I bet you can’t lift me up! I said “okay bet!” I lifted her up bridal style and she kissed my cheek and I kissed hers and we laughed it off. Izzy lifts me up with ease and laughs saying something about me being light on my feet. ‘Twas all fun and games today since we almost had one of our group attacked by a cryptid apparently. My partner Jun was there for some reason now and said “hey Rose do me next!” Much to my surprise they pulled me into a full on kiss and it was very enjoyable.
Some time later amidst this yard party I guess we were having, I hear some strange bird noises and the blonde girl and black hair are asking if the producer also hears some weird bird sounds. All 3 of them look up to my neighbors roof and suddenly are stricken with fear across their faces. The producer tells me not to look up knowing I’m curious almost to a fault. I glance up slightly and just see a black raggedy robe, cloth, or dress flapping in the wind and I pause my vision there, not daring to look up a single centimeter further. “That’s her”, the producer yells and tells me to record. I take out my camera and do as instructed, tilting the camera towards the roof, but not daring to look.
The next few moments happen very quickly. The producer and the 2 girls start floating upwards towards the roof, holding their necks as if they’re being force choked by Darth Vader or something. “This must be the part where she’s close enough to get you”, I think to myself. I have to do something! Having not not completely locked eyes on her myself yet, I latch onto the side of my neighbors house and start climbing the rain water filters, which surprisingly didn’t budge under my weight. I hear a screech and look quickly towards the pond from earlier, not daring to make eye contact with this creature, assuming it even has eyes. I keep climbing and use the windows to pull myself up onto the roof. The roof rather than being hard to walk on was somewhat hollowed out like a big nest for a bird. The producer and the 2 girls were on the ground struggling for breath and I glanced up.
What I will describe to you next is potentially very off putting if you have a fear of being watched or looked at especially from afar. You know how in low quality photos or just poor brightness settings, there’s sometimes blurry people in the background just minding their business or doing their own thing? Or shadowed background people in a manga panel so far away that you can’t make out any features? Take that shadowy background figure and imagine it looking directly at you, intentionally in that random fun vacation photo or outdoors shoot you were doing. That figure isn’t minding its business, it’s locking eyes with you. It knows you’re watching and it’s watching back and it doesn’t take fondly to you having made eye contact. Descriptions aside I feel my heart sink into my chest as if I’m on a drop on the roller coaster. I was starring into this thing’s face, the lady of the lake, if you could even call what she has a face. It was just all shadowed, but I could feel myself losing breath and being unable to breath.
I quickly start running over through her makeshift nest towards the cryptid, my time is short now so I have nothing to lose at this point. As I make my way over I declare loudly that the lady of the lake was ran over by a semi-truck, shot outside a club, mauled by a grizzly bear, and beaten to death this evening as I maintain eye contact the entire time, coming closer to her. The creature screams out in agony and I hear my colleagues gasp for air, finally being free of her effect on them. “The lady of the lake was beaten to death this evening by yours truly,” I declare as I grab at the shadow and swing a punch towards their face. The hit lands but almost kind of goes right through at the same time. The shadow and cloth start to collapse as I attempt more physical attacks upon it. Whose to say if I was out of breath at that point or not, but I kept going until this thing was just a lump in a black cloth. I proceed to stomp it out, declaring the lady of the lake dying in as many scenarios as I can think of. I was working off of pure adrenaline at this point. The cloth eventually just dissipates into thin air, fading as if made of ashes. The Lady of the Lake was gone for good or at least for now, hard to say for sure. We only knew about avoiding eye contact and declaring her death out loud & matter of factly. We all carefully climb back together and someone goes to get a ladder. We were safe this time and got a tiny bit of footage out of the whole thing.
#the recurring part is the whole ghost hunting show but the lady of the lake does seem familiar; perhaps I’ve ran into this creature before#I took a few creative liberties to spice this one up a little; the gay parts were canon though as was the encounters and the outcomes#dream journal#dream log#mine#OP#dreams#dream#cryptids#cryptid#creatures#horror#horror story#horror writing#scopophobia#tw eye contact#tw eye horror#stalking tw#my writing#my writings#long post#to my friend Izzy this isn’t about you but my ex-friend Izabella who is bi and became a bootlicker unfortunately#it isn’t about you no worries 💜

Shy Volume 2: From The Heart
A follow-up to a compelling first volume, but not without its growing pains, Shy vol. 2 continues to establish the role and nature of heroes, while exploring where the story will direct itself. As a piece of superhero media, does it do enough to separate itself from its peers and the genre at large?
Wow, I really must love asking myself heavy and complex questions or something, I should give myself a few gimmes sometime. Anyways, yeah, it's not clear cut in the slightest. But I think the easiest way to explain it is that it's a great superhero story when it's not doing typical superhero stuff. Not that the climaxes and action aren't good, but that its exploration of superheroes as people is far more compelling and enjoyable. But I'll get back to that thought later.
So let me start from the start. We get to see Stardust vs Shy, and I think within the context of the fight it's very well done. I like that Stardust is incredibly harsh on Shy, and that Shy responds to it well. But my major complaint is the flashback and characterization of Stardust. Flashbacks to establish a character feel low effort to me, and in the context of how Stardust behaves they're already peeling back his character, which I'm not a fan of. He doesn't need to be explored in the second volume. Let him be cold, let him be violent and almost sort of broody. We as readers don't need the life story of a character to establish any sort of understand or appreciation of their nature. Nor do we need the inner monologues of everyone aside from the main character. Anyways, mild rant over, Bukimi's art is very much something that leans into "impact" and "flare" before choreography, so it's easy to follow and produces some really nice panels and spreads.
Anyways, moving on to the best parts of the volume: the non-hero stuff. Getting to see Lady Black outside of her hero getup and interacting with Teru as a normal girl was very nice. They continue to really establish the depths of what makes someone a hero, as both girls accompany an old woman on a trip up a nearby mountain so that she can reminisce about her deceased husband. They dig deep into not just what makes someone a hero, but what makes them a person. Overcoming adversity, finding ways to succeed and help others, to sympathize with and encourage them.
In addition to that, we get to learn more about Lady Black's backstory, and find out that she's an amputee. It's a very simple and straightforward conversation that comes from the heart, and is executed really well. It's not touted as something heavy or emotional, but it is expressed that Lady Black's opening up her heart in the interaction. A very lovely piece that's great to see in media like this.
And here's where I take it off the rails a little bit. There's a lot of great stuff of similar nature in this volume. I really like it, but I'd also say it's rushing a little bit to establish the "purpose" of it. In short, there's a specific type of criteria expressed with each person that's become a hero. In order to become one, you have to have overcome something from your past. Something that has hurt you, left you feeling alone in the world, like nobody will save you. Only then, when you understand that there are other people out there that feel like that can you become a hero. It's a tenet of what the first volume expresses but with a more impactful sentiment.
Stardust, Lady Black, Spirit, Mian Long. All of these characters express adversity, ridicule, something that places them in the shadows of life. It's corny, and it fully fits the manga, but it's only when someone knows of darkness that they can spread light.
Alright, I've said my piece there, so last little thing in the same vein. The idea of gender norms is brought up in this volume, and it's a cute/fun expression of it, but I couldn't help but chuckle a little bit of what they made of it. Maybe because I see it as something inherently normal, but I felt that how Shy was shown to express the sentiment felt a little excessive for it. I think a one-two punch would have been better, where the dialogue came before a starry-eyed view of Shy as a hero.
Now, for a bit of an interlude. As I expressed earlier, Shy's non "big name action hero" appearances have been far, far more enjoyable than her bigger pieces. It's a lot of fun getting to see Teru explore herself and in turn shine a light on different forms of expression and passion, with things like the calligraphy club. They're very simple moments, but their appeal is certainly understated when compared to big and flashy scenes.
And now we make it the final "big" piece, the reveal. The ring was a sort of fake out for the "true" power of Stigma. We meet a girl with powers in opposition to Teru's, a rather clear setup for a rivalry/savior relationship of course, but they were still pretty enjoyable. This girl is a catalyst for understanding Stigma's underlying plan and approach, as we get to see even more characters and ideas. It basically goes as you'd expect, but we get some fun info from it.
Overall, I'd say this volume has more strengths than weaknesses. Regardless of that though, it draws attention to aspects that are worth being mildly concerned over in the context of a superhero story. Formulaic, reliant on tropes, and somewhat uninspired outside of variation. If you continue to be "aware" of the pitfalls of superhero media, they're nothing to really worry about, but otherwise I would think they'll get in the way rather quickly. Backstory, Battle, Betterment, repeat, there is very much a cycle that appears in the content of this second volume when compared to the first, but I'm hopeful that it will be dissipated now that they've exhausted the present options afforded. Only the next volume will tell. Well, either the next volume or the anime, whichever comes first.

SIGH…so I finally finished Xillia 2. Man, what an AMAZING game. Like, I already loved the Xillia 1 characters to bits and this game just exponentiated my love for them. Even made me like and appreciate characters that in Xillia 1 I either disliked or didn’t give much thought to, like Muzet and Alvin. And Elle and Ludger? just pure love everywhere. There aren’t that many direct sequels in the Tales series that I’ve played, since the only other I had played was dawn of the new world and…well, we all know it just wasn’t what most fans expected coming from the all-time beloved Symphonia. But Xillia 2? Showed me that Namco can do sequels right in terms of story, new characters, and treating the returning cast just right. ANYWAYS, more junk thoughts below!
let's start with the good things!!
the returning cast. as mentioned above, the amount of love i have for the original xillia cast is just indescribable. milla maxwell became one of my all-time favorite characters and the fact that the xillia 2 did such a good job at portraying them in this sequel was such a delight. they got new outfits and new skit portraits to go along with them, unlike the treatment that the beloved symphonia OG cast got in dotnw :( (how do 2 years pass and you still have genis with the same kiddy outfit like...c'mon) AND everyone's original voice actors were back for this game as well!!! EVEN DRISELLE!!! gaaahh as i was playing i just kept wishing that symphonia's cast had gotten half the love and care that the xillia 1 cast got in this game, but well, it is what it is.
and the side chapters that you'd get with the original cast? fucking fantastic way to get ludger actually grow closer to milla and the gang and have it feel natural, you know? like it didn't feel forced or anything like how it felt at some parts in dotnw (sorry for constantly comparing it to it but that's the only direct sequel i have to go off of). so not only do you actually get to grow your affection with the original cast, you get to learn even more about them and watch them grow! it was just so great to see elize more grown up and confident, leiah working through having more self-esteem in what she does as a reporter, learning more about muzét and how she actually wishes to get closer to milla's friends, and even gaius!! who i didn't even care for at the beginning, i loved how he realized that the chimeriad were actually his real friends and not just like warriors that were following his orders!!! AAAAA these bonus chapters were EVERYTHING!
the fractured dimensions were also soooo fucking good and so interesting to see how one single thing could make that dimension so different, but honestly all of them were so fucking heartbreaking! the one with elize and jiao was just SO brutal like...i can't even imagine how that must have been like for poor elize. OH and the one with victor where EVERYONE from the og cast is dead?? and you find the "dead" teepo!!! terrible terrible terrible terrible terrible especially when you try to go see driselle in that dimension and some lady at the mansion is like "please understand that lady driselle doesn't want to see anyone right now. she has lost every person that she considered family" like....DAMN this game is just devastating with its fractured dimensions!! but so juicy lmao. but yeah, i just really liked how the fractured dimensions brought back old characters you thought you'd never see again and even made you appreciate them in a new light (like presa and agria). who doesn't love a good AU?
fractured milla. i won't go too much into this here since i already had another post where i talked about how fucking great and a breath of fresh air fractured milla was, but i just had to mention her here as well since i have to say it: before fractured milla showed up, i was having a "meh" time with xillia 2, but once she joined the party and started growing closer with the rest of the team including elle, like...my enjoyment and love for the game increased immediately. what a damn good character.
elle. you amazing beautiful innocent brave child. i didn't care much for elle and found her...somewhat...annoying at the beginning of the game, but considering she is introduced by framing you for kidnapping her, i mean what else is there to expect lol. but my god, the way this game made me go from "who tf is this kid and why do i have to babysit her" to "if anything bad happens to elle i will kill everyone and then myself" was just fantastic. the scene where elle tries to save fractured milla by hitting rideaux with her sword and then like pretty much the follow-up scenes after fractured milla's death like....pure heartbreaking angst that just makes you want to go in and give elle a hug yourself (good thing the game gives you this option as ludger!). like i mentioned in another post, i'm not even the slightest bit interested in seeing the other endings where it looks like you can't save elle, like FUCK that noise and i don't trust anyone that doesn't choose to save elle lol. seeing teenager elle alive and happy WEARING CLOTHES STYLED LIKE HER DAD'S made me smile so fucking hard and made the sadness of ludger's sacrifice worth it just to see the kiddo living her life with the OG cast as her newfound family. LOVE WINS!!!!!!!!!!!!! And also sequel with adult Elle when????????
the gameplay. the gameplay from xillia 2 is similar to xillia 1 so there is nothing much to say that is new here. i would usually stick with my party of ludger-milla-elize-leiah as much as i could. the linked attacks were as fun as ever and being able to switch ludger's types of attacks was interesting, but honestly i don't think i was very good at switching weapons lol.
the english voice acting. i also mentioned this when i talked about fractured milla in a previous post, but man the voice acting for this game is soooo much better than xillia 1. i think i even commented it in my xillia 1 post that i just felt like the VAs just...didn't do it for me (except teepo my beloved!!!!): the voices just felt flat and uninspiring and the skits suffered a bit because of that i think. i think the only one i liked was milla (oh and driselle!! but i mean who doesn't love driselle!!!!) but that's because the non-emotional voice acting fit her character and personality. HOWEVER, xillia 2?? i don't know why but everyone just sounded so much better! like the difference between fractured milla and prime milla was soooo noticeable in the acting, so props to the VA for that. and of course hearing older elize was such a treat!! just ahhhh phenomenal work all around, even for elle's!!
other miscellaneous good things: the skits were fun and even moreso with the choice options added in. i also liked ludger himself as a protagonist and thought going the silent-protagonist route was interesting, i just wish we would have gotten more voiced lines from him, especially at the end where he says goodbye to elle. i was also so glad to see driselle back in xillia 2, and although she doesn't play a major role in the main story, it was good to see her in some sidequests and side chapters. like, the love that elize has for driselle just fills my heart with so much joy and even more when elize called driselle her best friend. augh!!!! i need to play xillia 1 again aldsjkflasjflaksjdf.
and now....for the bad, or not-as-good.
the overworlds. my god i think i already talked about this when i finished xillia 1 but GEEZ these overworlds and dungeon levels are ATROCIOUS!! for the overworlds it's literally the same type of design for every single one of them except re-skinned to fit the theme (snowy, desert, swamp, etc.) so once you see one, you've seen them all. same for the dungeons: just cave-like systems that are re-skinned with no puzzles or anything interesting to them. honestly the way that the fractured dimensions forced you to go back to the old xillia 1 locations was clever but also ANNOYING because it's like...there was rarely anything worth getting in these dungeons, so exploring the same exact-looking caves got so fucking tedious after the third or so. the overworld and the dungeons are i think the worst part of this game, but luckily the characters, story, and gameplay were good enough that i can overlook this part a little bit... i understand that they only had a little bit of time to develop this game after xillia 1, but unlike dotnw, all the locations and dungeons stayed exactly the same and honestly is a disgrace. NEXT.
the music. nothing new here. i mean, considering 85% of the locations are borrowed from xillia 1 and thus the music is borrowed as well, there were i think only 1 or 2 songs that i'll need to add to my collection, one of them being the theme for when you are fighting one of the fractured dimension catalysts. other than that...? yet another tales entry with disappointing music. symphonia stays winning.
the ending. look i'm not saying the GOOD ending is BAD, but like...enough with the bittersweet endings! it's not enough that fractured milla and victor and julius are dead, let's kill ludger as well in order for elle to live. like....c'mon!!! i knew it wasn't gonna be possible to save both given what i had heard about the game, and also at least it wasn't fucking terrible where elle dies no matter what. i guess i was hoping for something like dotnw where we get to have our cake and eat it too: ratatosk saves the world but lets emil live out his human life with marta. i know xillia 2 is an old game but considering some of the tales games after this were zestiria (sorey sacrificing himself) and berseria (velvet sacrificing herself), it's like....c'mon can these protagonists STOP having to sacrifice themselves during the endings, please????
other miscellaneous not-so-good things: ok when prime milla appears she says to elle something like "i'll go to the land of canaan and show you what it is that i do so that you won't have to hate me for having made fractured milla go away" but like...once you get to the land of canaan and see elle, idk if it was just me forgetting things cus i DID finish it at 4 in the morning, but did milla do anything?? lol like i felt it was all ludger and that's it. elle DOES say to milla "i'm glad you're here too" or w/e but it's like...i never really felt like prime milla actually got to close that gap with elle, ESPECIALLY because there's a skit beforehand where milla is sad/worried about what she could give to elle once she sees her again. and then after the final battle she (understandably) leaves with muzet so it's like...oh ok, thanks.....??? just me being annoyed with that just because of how close fractured milla and elle were so i thought we would see more interactions between prime milla and elle. oh well elle has elize and uncle alvin and the rest of the gang so it's all good but seriously what was that lol
i was expecting the final dungeon to be super long like it usually is with tales games but this one was only like...two sections long? i mean sure it's sort of a maze but honestly it wasn't so bad, and the enemies weren't even that annoying. just kind of disappointing in terms of a final Tales of level.
oh and origin. like, not only his design was kind of weird and uninspiring (the only other Origin from Tales of is the one i saw from Symphonia lol) but it's like c'mon little dude, ludger and elle passed the trial, let them both live!!! just felt like there was a lot of build up to origin and he was just some little kid at the end who made a trial for humanity just 'cus he could. oh well.
anyway!!! i guess my biggest gripes were just the overworld and the dungeons. the story, characters, and gameplay were just so fun and enjoyable, so i would definitely replay this if i had the time (and cry 1000 tears from the ch11 ending UGH). xillia 2 made me love the world from xillia even more, and i DO have a replay of xillia 1 pending since i only played it from jude's perspective, but maybe i will leave that for next year because who can get enough milla maxwell???
with xillia 2 done, i honestly wouldn't be able to say if i prefer 1 over 2 or the other way around. i think they complement each other perfectly, so i'm gonna cheat and say that my ranking for tales games played would stay the same so far lol: symphonia, berseria, abyss, xillia 1/2, symphonia 2, zestiria, arise, vesperia. thank you berseria my beloved for reigniting my love for tales games, otherwise i would have never had the thought of playing through all of these games!!! and now on to phantasia! :)

I don't normally do this but me wanting to watch this show again so very badly is what prompted this whole project (shout to @tesria for buying me the boxset because she is literally the best)
But anyway I'm going to live blog my watching of this first episode.
But I'm putting it under the cut so you can skip it if you want to

Beginning:
Anyway I watched some of this episode on a very low quality pirate ages ago but nothing is better then seeing it proper picture.
The opening credits look like they were done in windows movie maker over stock images of sea life while John F. Kennedy talks about how we have salt in our blood and other bodily fluids because we came from the ocean and therefore belong to the ocean.
It's very weird.
Then we pan to some very questionable early cgi of an underwater settlement that's declared to be in: "The Near Future" and then we see a sign for an settlement that's declared to be established in the far distant future of 2016
This is going to be amazing.
Now we have a couple of cgi ships chasing a smaller cgi ship where Bobby barely makes it in the airlock but uh oh! It was scavenging in another confederation's territory and now the Military is being called in!
Now we seaQuest the biggest of the cgi ships. It is so unconvincing looking.
Oh Jaxor is the lieutenant! Hi Jaxor!
A blond woman is the captain and I know I already watched enough to know this but even before I watched part of the jacked copy months ago I knew she was going to be a villain on sight. She has the poise of "I'm evil but trying to be low key about it"
Oh her second in command fucking hates her
Also I love her.
She's giving her speech about how she can get peace by murdering people despite command saying "No don't do that."
Second in command is relieved her of command because he's great.
...Okay now it's 13 months later and apparently there is United Earths Oceans Organisation which clearly military as fuck.
Apparently they need someone not so military but military enough to command the ship and there is only one man good enough but he'll never take the job
Apparently to get this guy to take up the job the commander (second in command guy) has to pretend to be terrible at his job.
Okay we have eccentric beach man with a dolphin who is the person best for the job. Nathan Bridges (Or Roy Scheider)
Lots of scientific bullshit and also Nathan's old friend is the one recruiting him.
He is pretty good at playing the curmudgeon I'll give him that.
The dolphin is named Darwin
Hints of a tragic backstory and a dead wife. Why are dead wives always named Carol?
seaQuest is being refitted to be the Enterprise underwater
Dead son too and why are dead sons usually a Robert or Johnny?
Oh he shaved.
More terrible cgi. I think I found it really impressive as a kid but it's very silly now.
This wants to be Underwater Star Trek so bad
The bad guys are capitalists
Where is that accent from?
Also yeah the blond lady has joined as a minion
...Okay so there is a guy who deals with contraband and got a guy male pattern baldness meds.
...the dolphin talks.....it's so fucking funny you have no idea.
JONATHON BRANDIS! Our boy genius Lucas who made the system that lets Darwin speak! He's so cocky and I want to cry. When Jonathon Brandis was reported to have died I cried so much. He was so important to me growing up.
Lucas is such a little shit. I love him
Commander Jonathon is playing his part but he's so tense I want to hug him.
A computer shows a hologram on a stream of water to answer moral or ethical dilemmas. Also did I mention that Nathan Bridges helped design this ship?
Also they left port with him on board and against his will
Capitalist Bad Guys are stalking them.
The seaQuest is shaped like a sex toy from Bad Dragon.
Am I wrong?
Skeevy Contraband guy is great.
Ah he also says he knew Nathan Bridger's son and also he was apparently briefly married to the stern and upright lieutenant in the command.
Bad guys making their move
The Bad Guys plan is going to convince Nathan to take command
Every time Jonathan Brandis is on screen my heart hurts.
Commander Jonathan is doing his best job to force Nathan to take command but it hurts because he's great but also he's genuinely under pressure
Evil Blonde Lady is single minded and also sabotaged the ship
Ah Jonathan is revealing the plan he was told to follow.
Who plays Jonathan? I love him.
Oh Don Franklin. He's been in a lot of stuff! Anyway he's good.
Also the ship heals itself? What the fuck?
Also the Tough Lieutenant is now controlling an undersea mech with vr stuff
Ah no Jonathan is still pretending he's an asshole. But I love Jonathan
head scientist is a sassy older lady btw.
Lucas is going to save the day by fixing the computer virus
I already care about these characters. Even when it's cheesy the acting is emotional. Also Nathan has accepted his role as captain! Yay!
Maybe Jonathan can be a good guy again.
oohhhhhhhhh Nathan taught evil Blond Lady
MONTAGE TIME
I love a villain who knows who they are and don't give a shit
They are using the talking dolphin to mark the enemy ship. Also the Scientist Lady is like "This is kinda fucked up" I like her a lot
The bad guy pony tail minion is the only questionable actor other than the "Where Is My Accent From" Capitalist
Stark is sexy in her evilness. She has no motivation other than "Fuck everyone else" which is very very sexy of her.
The CGI dolphin is hilarious btw
Holy shit she started hitting a guy because he was trying to get her to leave the sinking sub! I love her! She's so unnecessarily evil.
Also pony tail guy was Evil Capitalist Of Unknown Accent's son apparently.
Sassy Scientist and Nathan will have a will they won't they relationship but the AI now looks like his dead wife.
Lucas is having bonding time with Nathan.
When I was like 9 I thought I had a crush on Lucas but looking back I think it was gender envy because I spent my teens really wanting to look like Lucas.
Ah we are back to stock footage of the ocean with dramatic music.
Anyway I loved this. This was great in every way

Japan 2020 - Day 2
◀ Previous | Next ▶
Our Hakone adventures continue.
Tuesday 25th February 2020
Hakone
Our second day in Japan we had a traditional breakfast which included lots of new and strange looking foods. Helpfully they have a laminated card at the table telling you what everything is, I had fun trying to remove all the bones from a fish and drinking an egg with something mixed in with it.
We are headed off on the circular trail around Hakone that includes buses, trains, cable cars and boats that look like pirate ships, but first we are headed up Mt. Kintoki. Back into town we went to store our luggage at the station, purchased our Hakone Free Pass, then took a bus up the hill and found the Mt. Kintoki Hiking Trail.
We found a shrine, as it was my first one I wanted to make a donation for a fortune, although I couldn’t read it, google translate showed some good luck in there so I took that to mean it was a good one, Oli got one too which was only minimal luck, if they had been bad luck we supposed to tie them up there.
The trail was made up of many many steps we met quite a few people walking down the mountain, everyone was very friendly a quick “konichiwa” and a bow much like a friendly “mornin’” to your fellow brit it was very welcoming, that is until we heard loud noises sort of like thunder or perhaps something was awakening from below the ground…
Although it was a cloudy day we got a good view of Mt Fuji at the top, we had brought some snacks with us from the 7-11 at the bottom of the trail but we couldn’t resist getting some hot food from the shack at the top, the menu consisted of various noodle based dishes, we ordered our curry noodles from the lovely old lady who seemed to run the place, we ate while friendly locals made small talk “curry noodles” and “chopsticks” perhaps they were impressed by our skills with the utensils, we did our best to respond in Japanese “Hashi” I replied while gesturing with my chopsticks, they asked where we were from so we could break out one of the few phrases we could remember “Watashi wa Igirisu-jin desu” I’m from England.
After they had left the lovely lady who had brought us our food made small talk with us, we expressed our enjoyment of the food “oishi” delicious, and we got given sweets and crackers to take with us on our trek, she informed us it was her birthday so Oli began singing Happy Birthday and I joined in before realising we didn’t know her name, this was swiftly covered up with another line of “Happy Birthday” she seemed to enjoy it anyway and we got some more freebies by way of a postcard.
We thanked her for everything and set back off down the hill by a slightly different route and caught a bus to the next part of our trip, one of the trains was out of action due to a landslide but we got to the end station to get the replacement bus but we discovered that we’d spent too long eating noodles and we would not be able to get back as the last cable car was going or had gone already, as they’re still on their winter schedule it stops earlier than in the summer, reluctantly we get back on the bus toward the station to grab our luggage and head back to Tokyo, The Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park will have to be added to the list for the next visit.
Tokyo
Our first few days in Tokyo we were staying with Hiroshi and Aiko, Hiroshi and Oli are old friends.
We made it back to their place around 8pm where we had dinner. For Hiroshi’s wedding reception he had picked up a Nintendo 64, I was more than happy to help test it out with a bit of Mario Kart and Bomberman.

What happened to the scarred landscapes?
Ex-Pulp guitarist Russell Senior gets his skates on and finds that, in contrast to 20 years ago, his hometown is awash with bangin' beats and basil. Observer Music Monthly, Sunday 15 October 2006
"At the age of 18 I escaped the squalor of Sheffield as fast as British Rail could take me and went as far geographically and culturally as is possible. To Bath, in fact. For months I slumbered in the golden light of Bath's beauty. But something was missing in this soft-focus dream. I pined for the furnaces. Sheffield was calling me back ..."
As the train sped north, past desolate wastelands, I felt a rising exhilaration. Then, as I saw the sickly orange glow of the city, the smokestacks and endless rows of grim, charred houses, I felt pride. A perverse pride that I came from a place so unremittingly ugly. A toothless old lady on the bus showed me photographs of her grandson, Nathan, who had just had his spleen removed; it is a shame, isn't it?
I discovered my own city. Concerts everywhere in underground clubs, pubs, abandoned factory buildings and railway stations. Distorted electronic experiments balancing on the edge of ugliness. Poets with haircuts that made the last bus home dangerous. Dark venues with half-lit figures banging lumps of metal and snarling in a flickering collage of projections. Dadaism for the masses. So you formed a band. Everyone formed a band.
By 1983 it was beginning to wane. Some bands had got big. Others had fallen by the wayside. It was sobering to see someone who you wouldn't have dared speak to, because they were so cool, begging or staggering around drunk. The miners' strike started the following year and I used to go out in the middle of the night on flying pickets around those scarred landscapes. Being in a band seemed trivial in comparison, but that's what I did for the next 14 years, which is two life sentences.
It was quite a relief to stop doing that and return to normal life in Sheffield.
In the last two or three years, while I've had my back turned, there has been a renaissance. Groovy young people are of a mind to check out new stuff, and there's plenty of it. The few concerts I have been to recently have been - get this - mostly enjoyable. The city has changed out of recognition. Sadly, it isn't half as depressed as it used to be. Cranes fill the sky with condos and you can buy a cappuccino, fresh basil and all the other essentials of modern living. So it's time to pass the burgers through the school fence and hit the town. It's raining and the sky is leaden, the best possible omen ...
First off is the Leadmill, where Juliette Lewis and the Licks are on. I don't know much about the turn; I think they must have won the 'Search for a competent yet generic and soulless rock star USA' competition. The audience will be ejected at 10pm so they can be charged again to come to the club night later. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but surely one cannot attain the warm susurration of drunken bonhomie before 10pm? That simply isn't enough time to recognise a few faces, talk some crap, venture an opinion on the turn, change it in the light of other people's comments, stumble on to the dance floor, sidle ineptly up to an attractive person you've seen around a few times and ruin your chances of effecting coitus with them forever by vomiting. Anyway, Juliette isn't local so I shall eschew her scantily clad antics in solidarity with you, my oppressed brothers and sisters.
Next up will be Offbeat at the Raynor Lounge in the university, a tiny venue catering to the C2006 crowd. You can dance to Sonic Youth, the Pixies, and obscure Fall B-sides, but don't ask the DJ to play the Kaiser Chiefs or you'll be thrown out. If an unfamiliar track comes on, just ask yourself: 'What would Belle and Sebastian do in a situation like this?' Shuffle off the dancefloor until you've established that it's by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs then sidle back on as if you liked it all along and had got it on brown 10-inch vinyl. When I was a lad indie kids were the most flamboyant and vivacious. How things have changed.
I notice three girls looking across, nudging each other and pointing in my direction. One of them walks over and says: 'Excuse me, but aren't you ...' I suck in my stomach and cheeks and reach for my solid gold autograph pen. 'Yeah, yeah, yeah, who's it to? Invented Britpop, you say? You're too kind. The jacket? £1.50 from Oxfam. Yes, they are rubbish since I left. Yes, it is my own hair. Anyway got to shoot, catch you laters' - the usual stuff. ' ...Sophie Senior's dad?' she finishes.
As if that isn't bad enough, there are eight dance events on. Clubbers will know that Sheffield has a very good (or is it bad?) dance scene, with Gatecrasher and the like. So remember to restrict your vocabulary to 2,000 words max and only use smug affirmatives such as, 'bangin" 'mental' 'steamin" and the like. DJs are just people who play records! Personally I wish DJ Pied Piper would lead them all off a cliff like the sheep they are. Dat would be well wicked.
We drop into the Grapes, a pub which puts on three bands a night, seven days a week, to see Baby Pinkstar. They start tuning up and arguing with each other. 'Just play the bloody tape!' screams the singer at the drummer. This promises to be an awful, grinding dirge. Surprisingly, it isn't and the two songs I hear have a country and northern psychobilly edge. And it doesn't cost £12. And you can hang around and talk twaddle afterwards. And the bassist is fitter than Juliette Lewis.
Next up is Pink Grease, who are playing at the roller disco. Now that's more like it! The Friday night I first went there was in the mid-Seventies. Tentative newcomers clung to the sides on coltish legs as Noddy Holder rasped: 'We're all crayzee now!' A girl from our school got a love bite to the sirens of 'Blockbuster'. On Monday she wore a scarf to cover it from the teachers, but made sure it slipped down so her mates could see it at lunchtime. The slag! So imagine my surprise when I go up the same stairs 30 years later to find them playing exactly the same records. The people look exactly the same too, only even more Seventies. Current jumble-sale chic is offset by physics-defying hair topiary.
Pink Grease play glam as nature intended it. There's none of that intellectual Pierrot-doll Bowie/ Roxy/ Bolan fey stuff. No, it's just proper 'back-of-the-bike-sheds' British glam with a nod to the New York Dolls. This is the glam of 'Angel Face' by the Glitter Band, of Sweet and Slade and Suzi Quatro. They ride the colossal natural waves of reverb in the hall to catch some long rides of grooviness. Oh, and the singer has blue hair and jumps into the audience a lot, which is just as it should be. For the first time since the Eighties, I envy rather than pity the youth of Sheffield. Did I mention that the audience is on roller skates?
There's stacks more going on, so if you're lucky enough to live in or visit Sheffield, pick up a copy of the free listings fanzine Sandman and add your voice to the sound of the crowd. If you like live indie, you'll need to go to the Fuzz club. If you like electro, you'll want to check out Synthetic. If you like acid-folk, you'll be needing the Red House, Lantern Theatre or Cool as Folk. If you want to read some history, then get Beats Working for a Living by Martin Lilleker, which details the Sheffield scene up to 1984, when it all went downhill.
·Russell Senior played with Pulp between 1983 and 1997; he now writes, produces and manages bands

i always see u mention nice niche youtube videos/channel and i need recs so id love to look into some of your suggestions/recommendations if you have any :>
this ask is literally my dream spotlight moment!!! I am ALWAYS talking Abt good YouTubers. I spend sooo much time at work listening and watching YouTube videos cause I don't fuck with podcasts and they entertain me so much while I'm either on down time or with my hands occupied. Yt gets suuuch a bad rep cause it's an aesthetics contest ATP like the prettiest video gets the most views and then the ppl that spend 300 hours on the pretty talk like they didn't spend 3 on research. Very annoying. But there's sooo much good stuff!
Anyways my recs are less abt niche cause I'm not really sure what constitutes as niche they're more abt ppl who I feel comfortable listening to. I've been doing this thing to myself where I only watch videos by ppl with notorious knowledge in the topics they're talking abt. I am very much infected with humanities academia rigorous 'whats ur sources' brain so that impacts a lot (I was gonna make a joke Abt that white man who talks a lot Abt ur references but I forget his name rn)
Anyways.
starting with artlust who mainly makes shorts which I've stopped watching but now she makes longform. Very dynamic and approachable art history without being too basic or boring. Soo open minded and encouraging when it comes to art and pop culture! I'm watching her literally rn
bliss foster does very good fashion journalism with his wife Dani. They literally got me to pay for patreon to watch their content there (super affordable even with the currency difference). Genuinely a very good source on fashion that isn't just beauty culture.
Perfumerism is enjoyable to watch, I mainly like the few videos she did on the meta of perfumerism and science but she mainly does hauls and reviews which are also fun to watch but I don't watch those nearly as much
V Birchwood is one of the few exceptions to the notorious knowledge thing, she does experimental archeology revisiting old history clothes and food and culture, very entertaining and her research is nice.
Dr Fatima is one of my faves!!! I am a Kuhn believer so her channel is so invigorating for me. Her latest video abt data is so fuuun it's a topic I love a lot! Yeah I think the stem heavy focus the videos have in some parts can be intimidating but trust me she bridges it with humanities with a lot of passion and knowledge and it is incredibly interesting. I have watched very few of her videos but I always recommend her
Gutsick gibbon is an archeologist with a specialty in apes (I believe) and she does phenomenal videos on the topics of evolution and archeology. She debates a lot with science deniers which is fun sometimes but rlly her breakdowns of recent publishings on her area are phenomenal. I will admit, very science heavy and probably not very... newbie friendly? I watch them with little more than rudimentary knowledge abt archeology and paleanthropology and sometimes I get veeery lost but I get by. Good for expanding.
Tom ayling and his new apprentice are books dealer and he does fun videos about it. I don't watch him a lot but they are entertaining and decently informational. Good eye candy with the beautiful books he shows! And I did learn a lot Abt j rr tolkien watching him.
Alex neuf is one I starting watching recently, very short and to the point fashion analysis from a practical standpoint. Fun to watch. Shes pleasing to watch idk I think it's her voice.
Smarthistory also does short videos about art and artists. There's a LOOOT and I've only watched a few, but the ones I've watched on artists that I previously already knew of were decent surprises!
Frieda vizel isn't rlly a recc cause ive only watched two of her videos but she does videos abt american orthodox Jewish culture that are nice. There's another lady that does videos Abt american mormonism too which I've watched a couple and yeah. I don't watch any more cause I'm not rally interested in America all that much but they were very interesting in small doses.
stefan milo does videos Abt a range of historical topics which is generally a red flag to me cause 1 - man 2 - u can't possibly know enough about all this stuff to be teaching ppl BUT he brings in experts and sometimes the actual researchers of the papers he is talking Abt!!! So good I loved the one Abt the elephants.
Hannah's books is my favorite book YouTuber. Genuinely the only one that has ever gotten me to buy and read a book only by her opinion and she has never failed me. Just the nicest most well spoken and well read person I've ever had the pleasure to watch on a screen. Biggest rec probably.
The Huntington for a variety of videos from the museum. Btw overarching rec for channels of museums and colleges! Oxford mathematics and st John's college are the 2 I am actively subscribed but if I'm honest the algorithm is super nice to me and recs me things from other ones all the time so im blessed. And the GETTY RESEARCH INSTITUTE!!!
3blue1brown and numberphile are two Abt maths that I enjoy sooo much! Numberphile is amazing. The bring in different researched and professors and specialists of diff areas and approaches and make super approachable and fun videos Abt maths and numbers stuff. Genuinely what rlly hyped me up when I decided to learn more Abt math.
Tentative rec for dami lee cause I only watched a couple of her videos on architecture, usually the ones I watch are scattered from different accounts, but idk they are well made! Same can be said for Abby cox and Lindsay Nicole
More tentative recs that I've had good experiences with but only with a few videos + I didn't fact check anything so I take it with a grain of salt: esoterica, languagejones, the iron snail, trey the explainer, knowing better, Cambrian chronicles, hochelaga, Cause idk who these men are. And idc. J don't like listening to their voices too much anyways.
And a few actually niche ones: puzzle guy for puzzles, adventures gone wrong for horror stories abt exactly what it says (my guilty pleasure), kimono mom for a mom who cooks wearing kimono, crufts for dog shows, heikala for her beautiful art processes, sanago 사나고 is a guy who makes 3d printing sculptures and crafts and it is very relaxing to watch (esp when he doesn't talk). And CRACKING THE CRYPTIC!!! a recent fave!!! For sudoku!!! Oh my god so fucking fun you have no idea give it a chance I promise it's riveting.
Rlly my fave thing to do is search for very niche topics and watch the lectures. David Spiegelhalter is a statician who has a couple super fun ones up, I also like meteorology lectures, and yeah. Open access policies are a blessing there are SO MANY LECTURES AND TALKS up on youtube!!! I watched one on Frankenstein and it fucked.
But seriously I am super blessed cause my algorithm works for once and these r only the ones I'm subscribed to. Tho sadly that also means I get blind sides so any recs of creators who aren't white are super appreciated cause it is dire girl it only shows me white ppl it's so sad.

Movie Review | The Spell (Phillips, 1977)
This movie involves a teenage girl being bullied for her weight, and I realize that the average American in the '70s was in better shape, but she's not even that fat. Like, I understand that her classmates will bully her because children can be little monsters, and certainly I experienced my share of exclusionary treatment and subtle cruelty growing up, so I can definitely relate to her plight in that respect. And were I in her place I'd cry all the way to my giant mansion because have you seen this girl's house? (I did not live in a mansion for the record.) And certainly I can expect her sister can give her a hard time because children can be little monsters. But it's kind of messed up what a huge jerk her dad is about the whole thing, making a big deal about hiring a governess to get her to lose weight and eventually proposing to ship her off to England. Perhaps she would benefit from a loving father, but such an idea escapes him.
Anyway, her mother is the only person in the movie aside from her gym teacher who treats her like an actual person, so we view the proceedings from her vantage point. So there is a bit of plausible deniability when the daughter starts running around in a cape and the ill she wishes on her classmates and others manifests with her desired results. But not a lot because the TV-movie direction isn't too big on subtlety, and some of the acts are more obviously the result of magical powers. Perhaps a classmate falling off a rope can be a genuine accident, but it's a little harder to buy that an old lady just happened to have steam shoot from her ears. Although the shade of red her face turned did match my complexion when I tried that scorpion pepper hot sauce that my Trinidadian coworker brought to work one time, so perhaps there is some ambiguity here. I got what I deserved, it even had "Scorpion" in the name if I recall correctly, so I don't know what else I expected.
Anyway, as a Carrie remix, this is pretty enjoyable. I've enjoyed what I've seen of TV movies of this era thanks to their sturdy sense of dramatics, and I think this one nicely foregrounds the performances of Lee Grant and Susan Myers as the mother and possible witch daughter. Grant's popped up on the Criterion Channel before, not just with her acting credits but also her directorial work. I unfortunately missed seeing most of the films that were featured, but I found Down and Out in America to be a pretty powerful documentary. Myers I've apparently seen before in Revenge of the Nerds, where she played one of the Pis, the sorority against whom the boys inflict what would now be rightfully recognized as sex crimes, and not one of the Omega Mus, the sorority the boys team up with in the musical finale, and not one of the Lambda Lambda Lambdas, which is the boys' fraternity so no girls allowed. Man, remember Revenge of the Nerds? What a movie.
As this the '70s, the brownest of the decades (which I assume is what President Carter's "Malaise" speech was referring to), we get the big collars, loud yet somehow clashing earth tones and overly busy decor, which all make for a pretty cozy aesthetic to curl up into. And while the witchiness isn't given the same extravagance or explicitness as De Palma's film, this substitutes those things for some effective small screen style, placing the emphasis on editing and lo fi trickery during the climactic witchy showdown.
