for me it's not really the fact logan lost his seat, it's HOW he lost his seat. it's the way he has been treated all season long. and i know that it's a business and at the end of the day williams/vowles is gonna do what's best for the team but i still believe kindness is free?? williams could have handled this whole situation with a lot more grace than they did and that's what's really getting to me.

I cannot express enough that if your reaction, as a hobby artist, to not getting that many notes on your art is to say "maybe I should just stop doing art altogether" you need to stop posting art to tumblr

not necessarily forever, not even for long, but just stop putting your art on here and start doing it for you again, remember why you enjoyed doing art in the first place and stop relying on the attention of faceless people on the internet for your enjoyment of your hard work

believe me, I get it, nothing crushes the artistic soul quite like labouring for hours on a piece only for it to get like 10 notes, so you need to find your own source of joy in the act of creation and a lot of the time that means making art and not showing it to anybody

His Dark Materials is a franchise that tackles so many branches of physics and even creates a universe where the main course of study is experimental theology which is all about identifying and explaining dark matter while also adding dimensions to string theory, the multiverse theory, and the very concept of the human soul. At the same time, it aggressively calls out the problem with the state being controlled by the church, how people are condemned for being different and religious fearmongering stops the chance at growth both on an individual and a societal scale. It’s a franchise where the heroes of the story are two children who aren’t allowed to know the prophecy they’re a part of, who save the world unwittingly simply by doing what they believe to be right. Meanwhile, the person who thought he was the hero all along, the person who rallied an army from multiple universes to FIGHT. GOD. HIMSELF. is ultimately consumed by his own ego and forced to take a back seat when he realises he’s just one tiny piece of a much larger story that’s true heart is his own daugher. The child he abandoned, the child he didn’t know or care to know how to look after. It’s a franchise about finding love even when your biological family abandon you, it’s about looking evil in the eye and seeing your own mother, it’s about good and evil not being black and white but instead a complex and cruel mixture of both. It’s about the two worst people you know banding together at the last second to save their daughter with their final breaths. It’s about exploration and learning how to grow through experience, it’s about kindness being shared across the multiverse, exchanging stories with strangers and saving the whole world by doing something perfectly ordinary and receiving no reward.

Oh, and it’s also a franchise rich with fantasy, with giant talking polar bears, witches and ghosts, angels and daemons, and a mammal-like species from another world that travels exclusively on roller skates. 

And it fucking. rocks.

New idea: Shinsou is supposed to be babysitting Eri but he has to do something so he leaves Denki in charge for a little bit, he comes back expecting the house to be burnt down but instead he finds Eri begging Kaminari to let her re-dirty up her room so they can clean it together again

Okay so I tried to do an order but I ran into the same issues I always do lol. People usually rank for example Kyojuro really low right? Well, the only time we saw him fight an uppermoon alone was upper moon three. You don't win a fight wirh an uppermoon, espicially that high, alone most of the time. Who's to say he wouldn't have faired better against a different moon? Or even Shinobu, she fought upper moon two alone. The thing about demon slayer is that its proven that if you fight an uppermoon alone the chances are you are going to die. If you're about to bring up Muichirou and Gyokko, don't. Sure Muichirou technically did fight him alone, no slayer back up, but that kid sure was important wasn't he?

Douma was defeated with Shinobu's poison and Kanao and Inosuke's strength. Kokushibo was fought by four people. Nakime by what, Mitsuri, Iguro, and Yushiro? Akaza didn't even get killed his ass killed himself but again that was two people, Giyuu and Tanjiro (mind you Giyuu nearly met the same fate as Kyojuro. I am of staunch opinion Kyojuro died that night because he didn't have proper backup). Kaigaku was the only fucker who got killed by one person and thats because he was new and significantly weaker.

Another thing is even within the lower ranks of the uppermoons where maybe a single hashira could win alone, they can't! To kill Gyutaro and Daki you need to cut two heads at the same time. With Hantengu you need someone fighting Zohakuten and someone going after the fucking little one! Those are battles where you need at least two people! Forget the rest of the Hantengu clones!

Additionally, all the hashiras have different strengths! What, do you think another one of the hashira could've tanked Gyutaro's poison like Tengen? Shinobu's poison? Or even just how clearly Mitsuri's fighting style was best suited towards Zohakuten. Sure, some of the hashira are better said to stronger, like Gyomei being the strongest but power is looser than people care to admit.

The final, ending fight with Muzan is the biggest showcase of the idea of teamwork. All the surviving fighters of the infinity castle were involved in that fight, Tamayo and Shinobu died before it started but were some of the biggest players. The lower ranking slayers, a fucking train!! A cat!!!

Anyways, my point is power scalers manage to miss maybe one of the biggest ideas and themes of demon slayer and it bugs the shit out of me. If youre not Yorichii, you better have teamates.

My one staunch opinion on kny powerscale discourse is that A) as individuals, Mitsuri is stronger than Muichirou.

okay so the main criticism i've been seeing against episode 8 is that beelzebub (among other things) is "too nice" to be the sin of gluttony, because she's an attentive hostess, because she expresses worry over blitz's excess drinking, etc., and i wanna talk about it.

the thing is, i feel like this complaint is rooted in the most basic, somewhat cliche idea of the sin of gluttony, and a somewhat boring approach to bee's character in general. the idea is that, as the sin of gluttony, bee should be encouraging over-indulgence, excess, and the self-destructive aspects of party culture and drinking.

but she's the queen bee. she clearly explains that she can feel the "energy" of everyone at her party, and i think that's very important to analyzing exactly what gluttony means to her. instead of indulging in food and alcohol and drugs and being selfish (as gluttony is generally expected to be about), bee feeds on the ENERGY of the demons around her. and in order to get the best energy she can, she needs to be making sure everyone is actually having FUN and having a good time. gluttony, in this sense, is about EXTRAVAGANCE, having the best quality of everything, rather than just everything in general.

i also think this is why she was so put-off by blitz's actions. when he chugs the entire barrel of alcohol and then is absolutely wasted beyond all reason for the rest of the party, he's NOT actually engaging in her sin. he's not being gluttonous; he's not drinking to have a good time or to indulge or to have fun - he's drowning himself in alcohol because he's trying to forget and ignore all his problems, which is a sin much more akin to pride. his energy feels bad to bee because he's not having fun, he's deeply hurt and trying to distract himself by being self-destructive, which is NOT what her sin is about.

(also, remember, this is supposed to be part TWO of the finale. meaning, this episode (and the introduction of bee's character) directly goes hand-in-hand with the introduction of asmodeus, who's entire club IS about indulgence and depravity and everything you'd expect from the sin of lust. bee and the gluttony party are meant to be a direct foil to the energy of ozzie's.)

Seriously though, there's some fantastic contrast between them. They're just similar enough (both roughly the same age, both insecure and glory hungry, + their "shared father" or whatever Lafayette said) - and yet they manage to be exact opposites at the same time.

I could say more but I think this bit from Mike Duncan's biography about Lafayette basically gets at what I'm trying to say:

"Like Lafayette, Hamilton grew up without a father. He also lost his mother to a fatal illness at almost the same age Lafayette lost his. But where the tragedies of Lafayette’s childhood made him the heir of a fabulous fortune, the tragedies of Hamilton’s illegitimate childhood left him systematically cut out of his family’s inheritance. Now, I am not qualified to speak on the real figures, but I do like to write. So, there is a narrative opportunity here that drives me insane.

Like, cast Hamilton as brilliant, but overly cynical with a habit of assuming the worst in people, and give him a negative character arc where he comes close to recognizing the potential good of humanity but ultimately falls into his more authoritarian tendencies. Then contrast him with Lafayette who's more naive. He's not quite sheltered but unfamiliar with the sort of selfishness and greed he'd have encountered if he grew up in a more vulnerable financial position. In coming to America he, like Hamilton, is forced to reckon with contempt, greed, and the failings of democratic government. But, unlike Hamilton, still manages to come out of it with a generally positive opinion of humanity.

I'm just saying, if I were writing history to contain ✨themes ✨ they are a perfect opportunity.
