backtracking to 2 weeks ago in Titans #6 for a sec when Dick expressed how he wanted to look for Damian - it was nice to get a nod of Dick being concerned, but i was a bit bummed he didn't start a search. and i get it, the world needs saving, Dick's gotta do what he has to!!

the part where they plan to wait out Damian's match was so funny to me because Dick keeps repeating to Jon that they shouldn't engage, but then Dick just goes "NEVERMIND i'm going in" 😭 he couldn't stand watching Damian be hurt anymore i'm weeping

with context this is actually so sad for Damian orz otherwise i just wanted to say i love these drawings!! it's just a really cool page to me - i love the posing, especially in the hands/claws!! the intense expressions!! also so efficient in showing how the match escalates with Damian quickly overpowering Gail (along with seeing Jon's dread 🙁)

Milgram drought be hitting hard... Anyway I was thinking what an anime of each prisoner's personal story might look like (assuming all isolated from each other and Milgram as a facility does not exist) ((also assume each 12 episodes long)) also assuming they're psychological dramas because. Milgram

Haruka: The main appeal is the artstyle, drawn like animated child's drawings for most of the time but a few scenes an episode is instead depicted in starkly realistic illustrations (not animated). It's told from the perspective of Haruka who keeps insisting he has a good life even as all the facts point otherwise, finally culminating in the murder late in the show, at which point the artstyle changes to be a strange mix of the previous two

Yuno: What first presents itself as a peppy slice-of-slice soon devolves into a painfully raw story of a teen girl. The winner of many awards but not that popular with most people who claim to find it too dry and boring

Fuuta: The murder happens towards the end of episode two but it isn't revealed to the audience exactly what happens until much later. Fuuta's behaviour clearly changes after that point and he keeps getting harassed by people who were previously friendly with him, but the actual flashback reveal is only in ep 8. The show leans very heavily into the "is he a bad person?" question and the fandom is known for starting debates about it in the comments of completely unrelated posts

Muu: It was a dark setup from the start but not many people expected a murder in episode 7. The anime switches POV between Muu and Rei until Rei dies, then it switches between Muu and a student counsellor (who doesn't know about the murder and is just trying to solve the bullying but the tension comes from the fact that the audience and Muu keep being worried about her potentially learning about the murder)

Shidou: The most niche of the bunch, some people weren't a fan of how medically accurate it was while others rejoiced in that fact. The whole thing is a flashback as it's established that Shidou has left the medical industry in the first episode but it is slowly revealed why and the circumstances behind his family's deaths as it goes on

Mahiru: Yuno's might have been a bit misleading at first but everyone who saw the promo material knew what was going down. Mahiru's managed to keep the dark twists under wraps, genuinely being sold as a cute love story though there were hints from the start. It's unclear when exactly the death happened because as it goes on it starts timeskipping and flashbacking without warning and it's clear that Mahiru isn't quite sure herself of what is actually happening

Kazui: Hinako is dead before the series even starts and it is actually told from the perspective of someone who works with Kazui slowly uncovering what happened out of morbid curiousity. Kazui is the very definition of unreliable narrator and nobody knows what to make of whatever information comes directly from him. Some fans don't like the way the show never seemed to decide on a single answer as to what happened while others praise it for it

Amane: The fandom is small but loud (though it is always recommended as "this one will tear your heart out"); the tale of a child embroiled in an awful home life, using a unique visual style of poppy colours and thick outlines to sharply contrast the horrible things being portrayed. The murder happens at the end of the last episode, giving the closest thing to a "happy ending" they could achieve for Amane, though it is left ambiguous what would happen to her next

Mikoto: Told in a non-chronological style, the reveal of the murder is towards the end (around episode 10) leaving the rest of the time as wrapup as Mikoto finally comes to accept the truth of the situation. There are still arguments in the fandom years after it ended if the murder was metaphorical or not

Kotoko: She's presented as a really cool vigilante at first but then it slowly unravels as she reveals more of her violent side and that her kill count is a LOT higher than previously thought. Her personality is divisive among fans but everyone can agree that the opening is a banger

The dots are connecting like crazy with the big bad's whole inner core crusade and also with the simultaneous demon case like I did not recognize Ao Yin as the demon Li Lun first released eight years ago but oooh do I enjoy that minor payoff.

Love the repeated use of the demonic-spell-restraining sigils now that we've been introduced to them though I wonder why the Bureau doesn't ever seem to make use of them. Maybe they don't deal with enough powerful demons to need to paint those in their own (very empty) dungeon? Or perhaps just plot convenience. (edit: someone has pointed out the Bureau indeed uses them!! I'm just blind <3)

Anyway I kind of wish in the Chongwu Camp dungeon PSJ fought a little bc she's so cool in action and their bailing was a little abrupt, but it makes sense that they'd have an immediate getaway plan. Also this is an ep 19 comment but that line Mr. 3-Face Mask delivered about PSJ being fated to always be betrayed by her little brother(s) HURT. So good.

Back to the Bureau, I do love me a good framing, and I'm also happy to get a tiny bit of the episodic demon-murder-case style back. WX was v clever to hide out in Situ Mansion, and (small detail but) I appreciate that the others catch her up on the Bai Jiu thing onscreen. As an aside, I also like that the actress for WX got to be double-casted even just briefly. Seeing some of the actors get to play around with portraying various extremes in characterization and costuming is a ton of fun.

And then yay Bai Jiu backstory at last~! It's crazy how much that blood moon fucked up everyone's lives eight years ago huh.

Everything ZYC says to him is on point (and honestly, ZYC is really quite adept at comforting others, he just sucks utter ass at it when it's his fault and he has to apologize lmaooo) but of course my favorite scene in the whole episode is as follows:

The very slight shine in the waterline, the bittersweet smile/grimace as, deliberately or not, ZYC's words indirectly echo everything about the circumstances between the two of them right now??? Whew. They did that for me specifically.

Anyway, this was a good one to chew on for me, packed with plot movement enough that I didn't feel unsatisfied with just one episode. I'm glad that so far it seems like the release schedule bears in mind what episodes should be watched in pairs for maximum effect (eps 16/17, 18/19 specifically) and which ones are okay to stand alone for the day, but I also don't want to speak too soon haha. We'll see how ep 21 fares.

Also since this is a ZYC stan account (lmao) I have some obligatory ZYC thoughts that I haven't managed to fit anywhere else. I've been meaning to comment on this for a while now and was reminded by this episode: I love the fact that ZYC actually smiles quite often. I think it's a bit surprising every time he does because he so easily fits the archetype of stoic broody action hero, but it really is just an archetype he's fit himself into, and it's never clearer than when they flash back to smiley baby!ZYC (how freely and purely he used to give those smiles away...).

On the other side of this is also how caustic and biting he can be with his words, whether sarcastically or otherwise, and how clearly his face telegraphs his emotions in general. I love that he actually emotes quite a lot and isn't cold and unaffected in the least, just pouty frowny and awkward.

The last piece to this for me is probably his age (which I very much appreciated being established super early on) and how convincingly TJR portrays him as young and inexperienced and extremely earnest. He's so sincere in everything he does that it really doesn't take much to move him, which also (imo) makes his arc less overdone.

We all know from the start what direction his development will likely go, how he'll learn he's mistaken about ZYZ and how he'll grow to have a more nuanced view of the world as he creates more bonds with others. But he's so emotional and emotionally aware that it doesn't really take much push and pull to get him there. And actually, it's not untread ground to him—he is moreso thawing, in part returning to the open-hearted nature that he had to very abruptly shutter away rather than fundamentally changing as a person. I think to me, that makes his character more compelling to watch because his cynicism about the world is perhaps the least sincere thing about him. It's entirely learned, and not by choice. Relatable.

(Context: I know a lot of the character’s names and some of the big plot points, but I’m going in blind otherwise)

Ep 1:

-Naruto is kinda annoying but also he’s just a lil gremlin and I can respect that

-I kinda love Iruka. Also he’s hot.

-”Clone jutsu? That’s my worst jutsu!” says Naruto, known for his Shadow Clone jutsu

-there’s just something so charming about the old anime style (but also some of the expressions are so goofy)

-HOLY SHIT IRUKA IS A REAL ONE

-I don’t trust the Hokage. I don’t really have a concrete reason for this yet, but his vibes are off

-honestly this was a better first episode than I was expecting. I’m sold!

Ep 2:

-the needles Haku fights with are really cool-looking but also seem really impractical

WIP Whenever

(I was going to do wip Wednesday, but then I think it would imply that you should do it on that specific day, and I really don't care about that lol. If you want to join in, you can do so at any point!)

I thought it would be cool to see what everyone has going on in their hyper fixation worlds, so consider this an opportunity to share anything you've been working on! ...I also just wanted to share the fics I've been writing/planning because I wanted to get it all out haha. I'm the kind of person who spontaneously starts a bunch of different projects and bounces between them- I get burnt out if I only focus on one thing!

Here are the different series I'm planning/have been writing:

-Ancient Call (post kotor 2; Freyja x Atton)

Named after the EP by SYML, Ancient Call reflects on Atton's relationship with the Exile as they rebuild what they can in the galaxy after the events of kotor 2. It's definitely more somber, but it revolves around themes of grief, loss, and finding stability through love. I've already started writing the first work, and I'm so sorry but it's going to be depressing lol. It will get more hopeful eventually, though!

-Time After Time (Aresyl x Theron)

Named after the couple's theme song by Cyndi Lauper, Time After Time explores snapshots across Aresyl and Theron's relationship and how the stars crossed to bring them together. I've already written a few fics, but I want to draw something to go along with the first part before I post it.

I thought Time After Time was the perfect song for them because the first verse reminds me of the dream Theron describes having, and because they showed up for each other time after time.

-Alykaa x Hrafen (I'm still working on the title lol)

I've written the first work, but I haven't posted because I want to draw something to pair with it- I feel like otherwise no one will really be able to connect to it. I mean, it's a fic between OCs, it doesn't really have the pull a fic with already established and loved canon character would.

Anyways, I want to explore their relationship from with an interest in what gives someone morality and the nature vs nurture of what makes a person. I don't know if that makes it sound too deep, but I'm always really interested in how people develop their different beliefs and morality and how other people and situations affect it all. That interest is a big part of why I prefer Imperial characters in swtor, why Andor is my favorite Star Wars show, why kotor 2 is my favorite Star Wars video game, and why Better Call Saul (not related to Star Wars, but still) is my favorite show of all time.

I've been pondering on (not a lot of writing so far) a series about the events after ME3 and how Valerie and Kaidan find each other again. I also want to write a lot of little one-shot/slice of life fics to give their relationship more context.

I haven't posted anything Skyrim yet, but I have a vision. I want to write about my Dragonborn oc and her journey from being a petty thief to being a noble defender of the people. It would also explore faith and how that shaped her.

Anyways!! Here’s some of the stuff I loved from the atla live action!

•cinematography, soundtrack, costumes - all on point

•getting to see the airbenders flourishing!!! Also the dude who played Gyatso?! Didn’t think I could love him more!! Even though it was painful as FUCKKKK getting to see the first invasion of the fire benders was an epic masterpiece

•speaking of, the first scene?? With the earthbender soldiers in the fire nation?? Iconic

•Omashu: unpop opinion I’m sure (bc y’all hate change but simultaneously hate when it’s carbon copy????????🤦🏼‍♀️) I loved how they incorporated like 3 or 4 episodes into one, and they flowed really well together. Jet is FOINEEE. Mechanist was perfect & his son is a freaking badass, amazing casting! Even though it was change, the secret tunnel scenes were still really freaking cool and the badgermoles were SICK AS FUCK. Also I love that Bumi was still cooky but not just randomly cooky? Like mans was run down from being king basically the entire war…which FAIR. And it made sense that he was peeved with Aang BECAUSE they were such good friends. Like the other avatars being mad at him? Yea that’s whatever. But for Bumi it was kinda personal. Also CABBAGE MAN WE MISSED YOU 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Oh! And the way they mentioned other episodes like they were lore when Zuko was trying to find Aang? That was an amazing way to tie back to the OG series

•I love how they incorporated the blue spirit, Koh, the fog of lost souls & parts of the ep where sokka and Katara got sick & Aang had to get them frogs - just reimagined it. Oh also Hei Bai! Yea, I loved that whole episode. Koh & Hei Bai were SCARY as fuck, it was awesome!!

•HAHN MY BELOVED…I ADORE YOU! Favorite character that they added/changed. Katara getting the other women involved in the battle?! Tui & La? The oasis?! 😭😭 stunning!!!! I also LOVEDDDDD Aangs avatar spirit that he turned into, literally perfect! And I loved the change that he gave himself over to the spirits wrath..fucking SICK. Also right before aang turned into the spirit/whatever that’s called, I was praying they’d do the line and thEY DIDDDD!!!

•Fire lord Ozai?? 😳😚 nothing needed to be said - perfection

•Kyoshi?! The Kyoshi warriors?! SUKI?! - speechless

•I like that they’re making more of a point to show how smart Sokka is! Mechanist calling him an engineer…I hope they play more into that! Ik they did a bit in the show with the subs (cartoon), but still

•”~hE rAn~” seriously my favorite line, I was DYINGGGG!!! The scenes with Zuko and Iroh, Zuko before the war meeting, the leaves from the vine being in the background at the funeral….ARE YOU FUCKING WITH ME?! Zuko’s crew being the crew he SAVED?! And when they find out they all do the fire nation bows to their prINCE?! 😭😭😭😭

I’m being fair y’all - things I don’t love/hope they change:

•this one I’m 50/50 on - I don’t love that they tried to give Kuruk a reason for disappearing. They tried to pull shit from Korra to make him look meaningful & not useless as an avatar and it didn’t hit for me

•some of the wigs: obviously we won’t see Yue again, but I wanted her hair to be white. I didn’t love the wig but it wouldn’t have been as bad for me if it wasn’t so grey. Also do NOT love Azula, Tylee or Mai’s hair. Ik they look just like the show but whether that’s wigs or their actual hair (I’m clueless) it needs some serious improvement. Azula’s looks great down, I just don’t like how big the side pieces are that frame her face when it’s up.

•Katara, my love, I am PRAYING part of your development is also going to be her becoming more outspoken and badass, bc this season we saw the tiniest of glimpses of it, not a fan (unless it’s a part of her development…she did grow up in a tiny ass tribe so I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt)

• IK they’re going with a much more serious Aang, but pleaseeeee give us some actual moments of him being a kid. We saw that like twice 😭

•Dante is the PERFECT ZUKO, I will hear NO slander. However, I need him to be more of a dick. I’m hoping we’ll get that when he gets super desolate when they’re on the run & then we have Zuko alone & he has his inner battle. I need snarky dickhead Zuko, so you can truly see the big differences between what he’s fighting (himself vs. who his dad wants him to be)

In case I haven’t made it clear, idgaf if you disagree. I go so hard for these live actions because it’s fun! It’s just supposed to be fun and different and new. If you get so serious about it you’re ALWAYS going to be disappointed, there’s no way around it bc nothing is ever going to be as good as the original book, the original show, the original tale. OG atla is ALWAYS gonna be the winner, nothing will compare! So sit back ~relax~ and find some joy in the little things

you know I really DID like the final ep of severance, it was exciting and well paced and soooo funny actually and smart enough. but yeah I hated the last scene, I'm sorry, it just literally overwhelmed me with disappointment. I wasn't prepared for that ending, didn't even consider it, didn't see it coming (but I could have actually I realize now). it's just that for me, you have all those themes about identity, about forming relationships, about clinging to life even if it treats you unkindly, about finding yourself and also about sacrifice, and again - idenity and self worth and you could have framed that ending in regards to CHOICE - and all those things I mentioned before - in a myriad of ways considering the other story elements of this show. and what happend was, OH HERE'S A LOVE TRIANGLE AND OH WHICH GIRL WILL HE CHOOSE and it's all about romance!! and look a man and a woman, who will he choose to be with hehehe !! and sorry it's just. I'm not saying that's the truth of it or that it was a bad episode, I'm saying that for my taste, for me personally, that last scene encapsulated something that I am deeply, deeply tired of. that I didn't see coming in this case because I honestly thought this story offered more that the same old trite bullshit of heterosexual romance and love triangles. that this last scene, they could have made their point in many different ways that would actually have honored a bit more complexity. that would be a bit more subtle. a bit less trite.

and again I'm not saying that's the truth of it. that was MY experience of it, and that experience reflects on my tastes and that I get very defensive and non-apologetic when confronted with this kind of "romance theme" or whatever because - well, ever since I've watched movies I've just been so, so very bored of this flavor of romance. of this overpowering, omnipresent romance focused narrative style. and yerah especially the heterosexual kind. there's other types of relationships surely you can use in narrative to tell the kind of story, or make the kind of point they've done here. friendship. family. the relationship with yourself.

and again, sorry, I've seen some posts now on this scene that reflect enjoyment of it and I realize some people do get something out of it and I'm happy for everyone. not saying it's bad just that in me personally it triggered this reaction because ugh. see above. ugh ugh ugh.

otherwise, really cool episode! this season was so and so, but I really liked this ep otherwise. just the last scene kind of spoiled it for me. anyway I'll browse some more posts now and see other people's reactions and I'm sure it'll make me be more understanding and less grumpy about it. but uuuuugh. life is so complex. if you're telling a story about clinging to life, small and hard though it may be, I'm sure there's more you can think of than JUST romantic love. I'm actually a huge fan of romantic love, do enjoy reading about it and participating in it if I get the chance. but it's like. just a little part of life, yeah? it's NOT THE MAIN THEME OF LIFE. not every single experience in life that you can have as a human being boils down to being in love. christ, if they'd framed it in away honoring the friendship between those two characters I'd be less bitter about it. but then again they also made having children or not like 100% of the personality/motivation of one of the female main characters so. hm. yeah no I'm discontent.

edit: maybe I just watched it wrong. maybe it was a romance show all along and I just didnt realize. I just thought it was like, an arc yeah. a major theme. but not THE theme. you'd ask me to decide on something I'd say identity would be THE major theme of the show, and romance one of the tools to explore it. but not like, the point of the show. lol, silly me

Oh, sure I'll try to answer to the best of my abilities, considering I haven't watched eom for half a year and Charlance isn't a thought-out character like Branwen

🗡 Originally I thought about giving her gluttony as a sin, since it was the only one left, and I still think that it fits. Alternatively sloth would fit for her too.

🗡 Uhh... Remind me what rooms are in the house and which ones aren't used and I'll tell you. Otherwise I don't know.

🗡 I mean. Considering that I haven't continued to watch after episode 24. Well I'd say she didn't survive the fight. She probably died fighting, mortality wounded, she first thought "Oh well, tis but a scratch" (just my headcanon but I don't think she could feel physical pain because of her deal/curse). Yeah well turns out, it was kind of serious, and the flames that cursed her blood and body burst out and consumed her whole.

🗡 To her, this place is kind of nice. Calm, quiet, and most importantly, not in a constant state of burning. The people tho she could do without.

🗡 Actually she is kind of nice! Just not very talkative or social.

- She very much enjoys Yorgrims presence. He, much like her, doesn't talk much, so they get along well.

- She feels a weird connection with Briggsy. I mean they are both cursed in a way so she thinks that he gets her.

- She's very happy with Lethica around. Charlance likes her kind attitude and thinks her voice is very calming.

- In a way she thinks that Jericho is a bit helpless. She pokes him with her rapier in his back when she feels like he's going the wrong way. In sort of a way she thinks she has to mother him, because he would be loat without the others.

- She doesn't have a very strong opinion on Maruis. She can respect his sense of dudy to his god, tho the slow crumbling of that faith hasn't gone unnoticed by her.

- To her, Farryn has become a very good friend. She believes she can lernen a lot from her about nature and the forest. Charlance really likes her antlers.

BONUS:

- She is secretly very relieved to have an other tiefling with Jiayi in the group. Be as it may, you'd always feel the most comfortable with your own kind.

- Anastasia seems very friendly to her, tho she might not quite understand how these mechanical wing are supposed to work if fairy wings are something so very delicate.

And yeah that about covers it.

i know loads of other people have written and theorised about this, and there was an amazing post about how someone knew the actual owner of the bentley and how things had to get swapped around*, but for the sake of my own bloody sanity i needed to go through all the bentley snippets we see re: seat colours, interior door panel colours, and the bond transfers because otherwise it was going to drive me loopy-

let's start with the 1941 and 1967 flashbacks where we see the bentley: ✅ brown seats ✅ brown panels (as far as i can tell) ✅ bullet decal (1967):

then let's move to s1. tbh, i've only done this for the sake of full disclosure, but as far as i can tell, ✅ brown seats ✅ brown panels ✅ bullet decal (no pics but fairly content that they're there in all scenes):

and then, post bentley going up like kindling, and being resurrected by adam, we can see what looks to be black seats and, i'd hazard is an open window (given the lack of shimmer/reflection compared to the window on its left) - see we can't confirm the bullet decals. however - and mainly because it doesnt fit the pattern im about to lay out - this image is very zoomed in, and lighting quality isn't quite reliable. so personally, im considering this as inconclusive:

so now let's move onto s2. eps 1 and 2 are fairly straightforward, ✅ brown seats ✅ brown panels ✅ bullet decal:

but here's where things get interesting (stating the obvious, i know that everyone knows this), but given that this is when aziraphale takes the bentley - after the very poignant "our car' discussion - we can see the following:

okay, well, he changed the bodywork and hubcaps too, so this makes sense. but black? for aziraphale? feels somewhat like it's a compromise; he's gone ostentatious on the outside, literally the colour of crowley's eyes, but red leather for the interior... is a little much. so he compromises - keeps the decals (to honour his knight in turtleneck armour), but changes the inside to a cool, suave black. very 007.

but then we go to ep4, and specifically when aziraphale is accosted by shax. now, clear point to remember - shax has to have permission to enter, and compared to ep2 when she asks but materialises inside anyway, she now waits for aziraphale to acquiesce. this is the difference between a demon's car, and a demon-and-angel-couple-who-arent-quite-yet-a-couple-but-thats-just-semantics' car. by this point, crowley has accepted, agreed, that it is their car.

and then ep6, beloved. again, nothing has changed. crowley's window is, however, rolled down in the departure scene, so the decal can't be accounted for. that being said, im fairly sure we can be certain it's there (and i have a thought about why it's rolled down but tbh it's so arbitrary that it's barely worth mentioning imo). in any case, ❌ black seats ❓ bullet decal ❌ black panels:

now i know there's the whole separate thing about the exterior changing from light grey to dark grey/black, but tbh i think that is going to be down to the continuity issue with the original bentley used in s1. as for neil's answers on his asks, here and here... look. could be something of nothing, but i don't think personally it's a wider conspiracy; i think it could be just be either that yeah, maybe some of my colour assignments in the above screenshots are wrong, or he's doing his parent-teacher-writing thing of what do you think?

maybe not, maybe it was a continuity issue, and we just have to apply hc to this to get an explanation.

well, mine is just simply that it's not a nefarious issue or mucking about with time etc... i think crowley just accepted aziraphale's ownership, and whilst he drew the line at yellow bodywork (the respectable choice imo, tbh), he kept everything else.

Buddy Daddies Week - Papa Rei's Onigiris

Welcome to Day 6 of my Buddy Daddies anniversary celebration week! I am so excited for today (even though it got a little delayed) as I present to you...my attempt at Rei's onigiris from ep. 9!

In all honesty, it's something I've been wanting to do for a long time. And I'm so glad I finally had the time and special occasion to do it! Since episode 9 premiered, I always thought Rei's choice of filling sounded different, but good. Maybe that just says something about my taste buds/food preferences. I don't know.

Anyways, the three fillings I used in my onigiri were based on what Miri, Hinata, and Kotori described in theirs. So, I used strawberry jam, Choco Rings (aka chocolate Cheerios), and grape gummies. I don't think it was specified what flavor of gummies was in Kotori's onigiri, but based on what I thought would taste or pair the best, I went with grape.

Here are my "ingredients:"

I made about a half a cup(?) of rice and was able to make 5 rice balls (of varying sizes). In the end, I made 2 rice balls with Choco rings, 2 with the grape gummy, and 1 with strawberry jam. Here's a cross section of a rice ball with Choco rings as I was attempting to shape it.

After I finished making/shaping the onigiris, I let them sit for an hour to cool down before putting the nori on it.

And finally...the finished product!

But how did they taste, you might ask? Well I got you!

I tried the Choco rings onigiri first because that was the one I thought I would like the best. In all honesty, I was a little let down. I think it was a personal/"chef" error because I forgot to let the rice cool down before making them. As a result, the cereal got soggy, so it didn't have a crunch, which would have added to the its distinctness. Likewise, because it got soggy, I think the cereal lost most of its flavoring since I snacked on some beforehand and could definitely taste the chocolate flavoring. There was a bit of sweetness when taking a bite with a large concentration of the cereal, but otherwise the cereal to rice ratio was not that great (and I was left mostly with rice with a hint of sweetness). Final ranking - 3rd

The second one I tried was the strawberry jam onigiri, which I thought would be my least favorite. Perhaps it was because I was let down by the choco ring one, but this was one ended up being my second favorite. This onigiri was on the larger side, but I was able to (unintentionally) spread the jam more evenly across the whole rice ball. This meant every bite had a bit of sweetness to it, and towards the center, I could really taste the strawberry flavor. What was even better was when I got a bite of the rice, nori, and jam. The flavors of each part mixed pretty well and created a pleasant taste.

The last onigiri I tried was the grape gummy one. This one ended up being my favorite. The ratio of rice to gummy was really good, and the grape flavor was really strong. That being said, because of consistency of the gummy compared to the rice, I was left with more gummy at the end of my bite.

Thank you for reading about my attempt to recreate Papa Rei's onigiris and indulging in my chaos with me! I genuinely had such a fun time doing this.

On another note, based on my personal struggles/difficulties that came up while making these, I can somewhat understand how the rice balls got their shape. If Rei made them with the inexperience I did, he might have not waited for the rice to cool before making the rice balls. Thus, trying to make them round or give it any type of shape became difficult. Likewise, each topping messed with the shape in comparison to how much rice there was for that specific onigiri.

Kasumi: I’ll help in any way that I can!

Yukio: You guys… are you serious?

Reni: …I’m sure what you’ll do will continue to be utterly absurd. It’s irritating, but I’ll follow you.

Reni: You’ve been cleared of our long-standing grudge.

Syu: You’re sure piling it on, aren’t you?

Reni: There’s no denying it. I just thought differently then.

Yukio: HUH!? Scary…

Yukio: But are you really finally making peace with things?

Reni: I suppose so.

I miss GoT. Hell, I even miss s1 of HotD. It wasn't perfect, but it had some meat. Idk what this is. One thing is sure, I felt sorry for Rhaenyra in the book, but I can't wait for her boring af whitewashed show version to die. If she dies, that is, maybe that was also green propaganda. Her scenes literally take more than a half of every episode and I'm tired of it. Also, did we really need that Alicent scene at all? Yes, it was beautifully filmed, but it felt out of place and just unnecessarily took the screentime. And why is the queen mother practically alone in the woods during the war? Why is Vermithor Rhaenyra's dog? Maybe she could have ridden him instead of Syrax since she is a dragon whisperer? Will her cruelty during the sowing be mentioned again and haunt the narrative like the dead ratcatchers have been since ep 2? I guess it's cool when she does it. Anyway, the only good things were Oscar Tully vs daemon, a few seconds of Vhagar and Silverwing's design. Oh, and Jace. I felt sorry for him, ngl. Can't wait for the whole dragonseed thing to bite rhae in the ass. I would bet though that Hugh will only betray her because the greens will kidnap his wife or something. He would never do it otherwise, he's too honorable. Honorable Hugh Hammer, jaehaerys' grandson:D

Saera was evil, idc what anyone says, no bad parenting can justify her treatment of Daella, the jester Tom and her own friends. To blame it all on Jaehaerys "misogyny" is ridiculous and oversimplified. I guess Condal and Co stuck it to the old king with having Hugh claim vermithor. Impressive 🙄

I really miss season 1 as well. At least then we had, as you said, some meat - and hopes for a better future.

I am also with you on the matter of so many things being random - and because of this losing the impact they could have had. Alicent enjoying nature - true, beautiful but misplaced (and dragged out). The claiming of Vermithor - potentially cool but also dragged out. And the worst thing is that we get this unnecessarily long sequences at the expense of actual development for some characters.

And Hugh being Saera's son (never liked her either btw) indeed seems like one more point for "team feminism". Especially with Condal practically gushing about it to Kieran Bew. I bet he (the former) feels so clever.

P.S. Young Tully truly slayed, not gonna lie:) But overall I felt like the Harrenhal scene was too long as well.

18. How about a relationship they have in canon with another character that you admire?

I actually have a few that I could go with here, but I think the stand-out is May and Ash's mentor/mentee relationship and getting to see how that grows. I'm (slowly) making my way through early AG (and need to watch and write up my post on ep 6 soon) and it's striking how bad at everything May is in early episodes, said with utmost love. Like, she's terrible at this. Worse than Ash was, maybe. Definitely worse than Dawn or pretty much any other starting companion. But what's so great about her shaky start is that it's a great contrast to Ash at that point. AG Ash is generally Ash at his most abrasive and confident from my wide-but-not-thorough experiences with other seasons. He's at something of a peak right now before going on to experience challenges with Paul (which I need to actually make a post on at some point because AG actually set this up really well using May and Drew/Ash and Gary's rivalry as baselines, only to flip the script with Paul). Anyways, that peak makes him a good teacher for May, and she's as receptive a student as I think she can be given everything.

It's really nice to see her grow in ways that can directly be tied to Ash, and he has a few instances of growing from experiences with her. You can see Ash's battle style reflected in May's so clearly that other trainers make note of it several times- she's fast, hard-hitting, unconventional. She fights like Ash (theoretically. We're supposed to think that she does. In practice, AG battles tend to be 'hit it until it dies' half the time but we're supposed to think that deep strategy went into it every time). She genuinely learns from him and we see the effects of it in a meaningful way. I also think that, in part due to the mentor/mentee relationship, I remember Ash actually being really protective over May compared to other companions? I mean, obviously we're not looking at some episodes (cough, the bicker the better, cough) and he always has to be the hero of everyting but I remember a fair few times that he really went out of his way for her. Which was probably just advanceshipping to balance out contest tbh but I'll take it platonically because we LOVE platonic bonds that are just as strong as anything else!

Save for a few... outliers, May and Ash get along incredibly well and I've always enjoyed the mentor/mentee thing! Also, look at their bulbasaurs 🥺

25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?

Okay. Here's the thing. I do not remember my first impression. I think I was three. I'm only a little older than AG itself is, and I've quite literally been with it as far as I can remember. I grew up with it. I remember going as May for halloween one year at around eight, probably. I know that she's always been my favorite, and not much has changed other than the fact that I like her more now.

I've had the great opportunity to be part of online communities that have deepened my love of all of the characters, and May's no exception. I've spoken to so many people, likeminded and otherwise, and it's been so cool to feel in real time as my view of characters deepens as I listen and discuss them with others.

She's still my favorite. She always has been and at this rate always will be. That hasn't changed at all, but I think that I appreciate her and every other character more from my experiences in communities. I also just hold more sentimentality now than I did before- I associate pokeani with friends! It just makes me happier than it used to despite the fact that I should have 'outgrown' it by now. I do not believe in that. Some people on tumblr like to go on about people who like children's media having fandom brainrot or whatever, to which I say 1.) I've also been enjoying the medical-mystery-people-dying show lately and 2.) who fucking cares. Genuinely. We're all on tumblr. It's the devil's sacrament thing. We're all at the devil's sacrament. We're still blogging about tv shows on company/campus/your own time. You left your dignity and superiority at the login page.
