Do you ever think Cloud went to Reeve for help with the Fusion Sword or Fenrir? Looking over blueprints or possible add-ons? Do you think Reeve had the idea for the compartments on Fenrir for the Fusion Sword?

Do you ever think they bonded over mechanics and tinkering?

(im sorry i know this is based very heavily on my 'post-vii cloud likes working on his bike and sword(s)' headcanon but. the fusion sword had to have come from Somewhere, right? fenrir needs to be looked over regularly so it keeps running properly, right? do you See my vision?)

Absolutely, at the very least with Fenrir! I think that the idea for the fusion sword came from Cloud - my headcanon is that post-FFVII Cloud tries to find a new weapon and ends up using dual blades (unpopular weapon, so it’s easy to get his hands on, light and easy to carry around), but misses the heft of the buster, and so ends up sketching up various ideas for the fusion sword and went through a few different designs, and eventually asks for Reeve to help him figure out the specifics to get it to actually work.

And then I headcanon that a lot of Cloud's initial traveling post-FFVII is going places and doing things for Reeve ex: checking on reactors and such, and so Reeve slowly started to upgrade Cloud's motorcycle (mostly from ideas that Cloud gets while on the road) until we get to Fenrir! Cloud loves the bike and wants to know more about it, Reeve loves sharing stuff and also thinks it'd good for Cloud to know how to fix up at least some problems, and voila, hanging out!... not that Cloud's great to hang out with pre Advent Children, but oh well.

Now you may think, gee, wouldn't Reeve be too busy as the head of the WRO for doing mechanical stuff? To which I say, the guy's gotta unwind somehow.

The compartments in my mind were originally Cloud would stick his swords into the bike if he was battling while riding. By this time he knew where to put them that wouldn't do too much damage, but it drove Reeve crazy and so he designed the comparments so that Cloud would stop carving into his bike.

@krakkenchaos no problem! to me, that "a friend of mine" line just moves me, i guess. hermes, while not impartial at all, is the narrator, and while he does interact with the characters throughout, i feel like there's only a few spots in the musical where he lets himself get particularly personally involved, apart from just telling the tale. he speaks directly to orpheus and eurydice of course, but it's always about them and the story, not about hermes himself, of course.

in that line, hermes once again acknowledges his own personal relationship with orpheus (as his mentor), and not only that, but he straight up says that orpheus changed him. "i learned that from a friend of mine." 

i also love the choice of words; he doesn't outright say "my old pal orpheus changed me" he says "a friend of mine," and to me that combined with the way the line is said feels like hermes is finally admitting in spite of himself (see what i did there?) that orpheus is more than a story to him. and maybe that's (to borrow a line from another musical) why he tells the story; it moved him so deeply that he needs to share it to everyone. it's like you said, orpheus had a gift to give, and he gave it to everyone whose path he crossed, including hermes, and now hermes tells us orpheus's story so he can give that gift to us, too. he's imploring the audience to see the world the way it could be, like orpheus did, so that maybe we can make the world we dream about be the one we live in now, to take a quote from the nytw version.

Wait, is the "I learned that from a friend of mine" referring to Orpheus or something else? I don't know if I misunderstood that or not

hey! i mean, as with all art and music, the end product (in this case, the song and its lyrics) are entirely up to each person's interpretation of it, but yeah i think that the "friend" in that line is pretty clearly implied to be/referring to orpheus. i don't know if you've seen the show, or if you've seen a video of that song being performed, but in that scene, orpheus is still on the stage (frozen in shock and grief), and hermes looks directly at him when he says "i learned that from a friend of mine." i would be really genuinely interested to hear a different interpretation of that line and who it could be referring to, though, if you have one!

I don't know Reeve to have any canonical friends aside from Veld (Verdot), before Dirge, and I don't know much about their friendship, but I assume Veld was a hero of his or something because Veld is old as shit, and Reeve is only 35 during FF7. He was willing to risk his ass to help save Elfe, because she's his friend's daughter, even though she's with Avalanche. Yes, he uses his Cait Sith bots to go in his place, but even getting involved that much is a massive risk for him considering he's on the Shinra Board of fucking Directors. This suggests how highly he values friendships and demonstrates his personal integrity.

Reeve actually gets involved in a staggering number of situations considering he's a literal executive at the biggest company in the world, like…Reeve my guy when do you sleep buddy? (Also how did you make it to the top of Shinra with your conscience intact??)

I really wanted Reeve to have seen Vincent's file or some of his reports back in the day, like as a young Shinra employee, and been like "holy shit this Turk is amazing in a totally not gay way i am just going to take a copy of his photo for personnel management purposes thank you Veld." ALAS, Reeve was five years old when Vincent died. So no such luck unless he was Shinra's youngest employee ever aside from Sephiroth (lol).

HOWEVER. We KNOW direct from the cat's mouth that Reeve knows all about Vincent, meaning he DID study his files at some point, and was clearly moved by how sexy he was tragic his story was. HERE THERE BE HEADCANONS: Vincent was a pretty impressive guy even before the monster powers, and I absolutely HC Reeve as being a total Vincent fangirl, which makes him scruffing and then throwing the Cait Sith bot at Cloud even funnier. He and Vincent become friends through the Cait Sith bot, during the events of FF7 but they have that falling out because of the Marlene thing. However, he keeps helping the group and whatnot, which earns their and Vincent's trust back, and then eventually reveals his identity to the whole group.

Between FF7 and Dirge, he and Vincent stay in contact and even wind up meeting in person. By "meeting in person" I mean Vincent vampire ninjas himself into Reeve's office and scares the ever-loving shit out of him, because he wanted to meet him face to face, and they have a nice talk, before Vincent vampire ninjas away again, leaving Reeve with an even bigger totally platonic and not at all gay crush on the very dangerous and very sexy vampire man.

Reeve eventually leaves Shinra and starts his good-guy club and all that, and he and Vincent reconnect during Dirge, where Reeve is doing this weird matryoshka doll thing with himself inside Cait Sith inside a suit of himself, but whatever i don't kink shame. Apparently Vincent finds that very cool (or hot if you ship them) because they spend the rest of the game helping each other (or secretly making out). Much like almost all of my ships, whether you ship Reeve and Vincent or not, my HC for their relationship is pretty much exactly the same, except in the ship version they fuck.

Anyway I HC that Reeve and Vincent are friends. That was a long thesis, just to work up to this one point.

ps. my ship name for reeve and vincent is reeventine because it's more prosodic (fancy talk for rolls off the tongue), and also, reevince just looks like re-evince, which is a word already

This is important to how Reeve feel about himself i promise: CAIT SITH SPEAKS FUCKING KANSAI-BEN. I have no idea why they chose Scottish accent for the English version but they have inadvertently canonized Reeve's hometown dialect being either Kansai-ben, or Scots-gaelic. Which means that little Reeve had one HELL of an accent, and had to meticulously dialect-train himself, to speak in the accepted nonregional vernacular (Kanto or newscast English) for his Shinra job. HEADCANONS BEGIN: This suggests that he's self-aware enough to know what will help him get ahead, and is willing to do what it takes to succeed…but like, in a NORMAL way, not like the rest of the Shinra execs, who are all literal psychopaths. Not exaggerating. Actual psychopaths. He's a classic overachiever and apparently pretty charismatic, despite never having been listened to ever not even one single time during a Shinra board meeting. Luckily he's also a good person deep down and when it really counts, he does the right thing.

In conclusion, Reeve thinks highly enough of himself to have very strong drive and ambition, and to go against the flow and make conscience-based decisions, even when it puts him at risk, but not enough to disconnect the coffee I.V. and get a good night's sleep once in a while.

unpopular but correct opinion: reeve was hot even back when he was cosplaying some kind of pirate clergyman back in the Dirge of Cerberus days

i'm very obsessed with your depiction of Song in and the stars shine the same. you write it with such a different feel for each character, if that makes sense? especially since it's always been to me such a difficult concept to portray well in fic. i've been wondering, what do you think everyone's Singing is like, if you've thought about it? whether just as like the general feel to it to a bystander/listener, or just purely sound qualities, like i seem to remember glorfindel's baritone singing voice as a thing a lot of people would write.

i'm very sorry if this was asked/discussed before however i am...well not *new* but it's been years since i was active around lotr/silm tumblr. i am rapidly getting pulled back in to fan spaces it would seem. anyways. <3

Ahhhh oh wow! What a cool ask this is! Thank you so much. Playing with Song and Music and Themes in my fics is one of my favorite things to do. Songs of Power are just soooo damn cool I can't help myself. I'm sorry it's taken me so long to respond to this, I've just been trying to compile my thoughts! Buckle up cause this is gonna get kind of long.

Elrond is easiest for me to nail down for obvious reasons. I've dug into his Music the most out of everyone, but it feels different to different people. For a lot of elves it can be very overwhelming because there is just SO much going on in his Theme. A lot of syncopation and dissonance (in the best possible way. Just super fun note combinations). Usually his Music is quite steady and calming. Generally I think of his actual singing voice to sound like Colin O'Malley does in Thomas Bergensen's Sonera. Strong and open-sounding and just....the slight rasp but like it's still so gorgeous and hngggggg. Though, with Rings of Power (or just a younger) Elrond specifically I imagine more like Reeve Carney's voice -- especially as Orpheus in Hadestown. Again you get that bright, open sort of voice but there's a sweetness and a vibrato to Reeve's voice that I just adore for a young Elrond!

Gil-Galad is another character whose music I have thought about a whole bunch (mostly in contrast to Elrond's, due to To Partake), and he has a very even quarter-time beat and just. Idk he sounds and feels so orderly and steady and kind of brassy to me. I don't have headcannons on his singing voice, though.

Celebrimbor also has an even quarter-time beat but his music is more relaxed and there's room in it for play. Like it has a swing beat every once in a while, and in general he just has this very big, open, echoing feeling. Like he is just huge idk. Music that just thunders around your ears in the best possible way. I also don't have a headcannoned sound for his singing voice yet but in general I think it would be pretty low.

Maglor is different for me depending on pre or post Oath, in terms of his actual Theme. Pre Oath there is a lot of interest and complexity, and post Oath that sort of gets drowned out by the overlaying Theme of the Oath (which feels horribly loud, with this plodding sort of beat that gets faster and faster the more Oath-madness is upon the Feanorians). His singing voice is like Joey Batey from The Amazing Devil. The way that Joey is capable of singing with this gorgeous, soulful, sweet voice and then he can turn on a dime to sound like he's about to tear someone to shreds and you're pretty sure that nobody should be able to sing THAT fucking loud without breaking their vocal chords? The RANGE? The way his voice just sends shivers up your spine? Yeah. Maglor.

Galadriel I don't have much on because she is kind of an enigma to me. But I think there would definitely be an aspect of her Theme that would put you on edge. As far as her singing voice go, I actually wrote Convergence I while listening to "Sonera" and yeah the male voice in Sonera I headcannon as Elrond, and the female voice I headcannon as Galadriel for that specific scene. In general though, I tend to hear her voice as sounding like Kate St. Pierre in Hurt by Thomas Bergensen.

Celebrian has a lot of strings and flutes in her theme to me. It's orderly but more like a 3/4 time signature. The kind of thing you want to dance to or listen to while you're taking a long walk. Mostly high notes. Her singing voice sounds like the the female part in Sun and Moon (which I would like to find out who that is but unfortunately I can not seem to find her credited anywhere). Like it's pretty but there's this sort of untamed edge to her voice, just a bit. (Also I am a big fat nerd about Sun and Moon because a) Cel and Elrond are sun and moon coded to me and b) the male voice which is actually the song's composer sounds CLOSE enough to my headcannoned Elrond singing voice that I can sit back and imagine they're singing a duet haha)

Arwen is like a mix between her parents. She's got that 3/4 beat like Cel but there IS a bit of syncopation from Elrond in there, but similar sort of harps/strings vibes. Purple, to me. I do not know how to explain what purple even means or sounds like in this context asdlkgh. But her voice sounds like Eurielle - very much thinking about Luthien's Lament, specifically.

I unfortunately do not have a lot of headcannons for Elladan and Elrohir yet but we'll get there quite shortly with boundless sky.

Luthien has the sort of voice that will just fucking blow your socks off. I know she sang Morgoth to sleep blah blah but girl has power in that voice and the world's most ridiculous range. I am thinking specifically of ghost love score. And yes, her Theme sounds like orchestral metal. Sauron fucking hates it.

Morgoth is jazz. That is all I have to say on that.

“Has anyone ever told you that you talk in your sleep?” Demelza asked. She was propped up on an elbow and had been silently watching Ross for quite a while before he’d finally stirred.

Watching Ross was nothing new to her, in fact it was one of her favourite sports and had been for some time. She’d rather fancied herself an expert in AllThingsRoss™–his eyes (stormy), his gait (easy), his body hair (everywhere). She’d come to the conclusion that his forearms were his best feature and after last night, she had further evidence to support that claim. Anyone could hit the gym and build up a bicep or two, it was forearms that were the real indicator of a person’s strength. And Ross’s own did not disappoint, though she now knew he tempered that power with extreme tenderness. She’d also had the chance to stroke the soft hair on those beloved forearms, something she’d never done before.

Yes, this Ross–quiet, vulnerable, snoozy–was new to her. He blinked once or twice as he came to greater wakefulness and licked his lips (still raw from so much kissing). His dark head was visibly mussed from sleeping and of course from the tussling before sleep.

We did roll around a fair bit, didn't we? That part of the night seemed far away though she could still feel its lingering in her back and thighs.

“No...” he said slowly, a smile twitched in the corner of his mouth. “You'd be the first–are you claiming that honour?” 

“Apparently,” she said, winding a strand of her own hair around her long finger when what she really wanted was to play with his curls again. “Don't worry, it wasn't anything embarrassing.”

“Oh?” He still hadn’t moved his body and remained flat on his back (just how she’d left him, spent, only a few hours ago).

“Yes, from what I gathered, you were clearing a field. Mowing? Hoeing? I couldn't quite make out what you were mumbling. But I did catch that you were concerned you didn't have the proper tool.”

“Tool? Did I say that?” He raised a brow and turned his head ever so slightly toward her.

“I think you said scythe.”

“Like Grim Reaper scythe?” he asked.

“You tell me, it was your dream. But whatever it was, you stopped fretting once I got hold of you.”

“Then I suppose a thank you is in order, but tell me, Demelza, are you always so loquacious in the morning?”

“Loquacious, eh?” She laughed and rolled over. She itched to sit up but wasn’t sure if the sheet would come along easily and she didn't want to make a big to-do about staying covered up. She also didn't really want to bare all, not again or at least not until she knew where this was all going. “I haven't been called loquacious since second form. Mr. Reeves–all my mates were so over the moon to have male teacher that they willed themselves into a crush on the man, but I just couldn't see my way to it. And it wasn't that he had wonky teeth and dandruff but that he didn't seem to appreciate me or at least my take on things. Anyway, loquacious, garrulous, voluble–those were all terms he used for me. And now you’re looking at me, Ross, just like he did. Okay then, I’m properly chastened, Sir.…”

As she spoke, Ross’s eyes seemed serious under their heavy lids but he stayed silent. It was apparently his turn to watch.

“You know, Ross, I’m just trying to keep things light–and not awkward,” she finally broke down and said what was on her mind. “It's not exactly my usual practice to wake up next to my boss.”

“What’s the unusual part– waiting it out in your lover’s bed until morning or sleeping with your boss?” Now the dark eyes twinkled (oh, he was awake!) but she didn’t find his tease humourous.

“You know the answer to that question, Ross.”  

“Well, if you are afraid of things being awkward,” he said, this time with a full grin, warm and playful, “Maybe this will help.” He slid one of those forearms she admired so much under her and in one deft move, pulled her close. Then he kissed the top of her head and squeezed her tightly to him.

“Oh, is this how it's going to be then?” she laughed and settled against him (thank god his chest hair was soft too). Then she looked up into his face with a new worry. “Or are you just trying to shut me up?”

“No, Demelza,” he said softly, “this is how it's going to be.”

13. Dumbest thing they’ve ever done?

Canonically? Probably that time he messed up that mission with Veld and almost got them both killed. (The one that leads to one of my favorite lines from Veld, which basically translates to "...They say that subordinates are a lot like their superiors, so maybe I'm still naive, too.")

Headcanon? When Tseng was about seventeen he once accidentally stole one of Veld's extremely expensive pens after a group meeting, didn't realize it until two days later when he found it in his desk drawer, and proceeded to spend the next week trying to sneak it back into Veld's desk instead of just telling him that he'd accidentally walked away with it.

After a series of failed attempts that landed three colleagues in trouble (all of whom insisted that they would willingly sacrifice themselves to keep Tseng out of trouble because Turks are and have always been ride-or-die, even in exceptionally ridiculous situations), the incident was resolved when Reno finally just took the pen from Tseng, slipped it into his pocket, and walked into the armory.

A few seconds later he walked back out, holding up the pen like a lighter at a concert. "Hey, Chief! Isn't this like your sixth-favorite 'I'm a rich bastard' pen? I don't think it goes in the materia locker."

As it turned out, Veld had been so busy over the past week and a half that he hadn't even noticed it was missing. He thanked Reno, theorizing that he'd accidentally carried it in there himself when getting kitted out for a field assignment, and just accidentally left it in the locker.

(This event may be why Reno was given the vice director position upon Tseng's promotion within the department, but neither of them will confirm or deny the possibility.)

(Also I know the Ultimania says that Reno is 25 during the Crisis but that makes absolutely no sense with the timeline of the Compilation so I reject this as soundly as I reject Sephiroth being born in 1980.)

24. Most annoying habit?

For simple habits, like tics, Tseng tends to use fountain pens not because of any preference of his own, but because he will fidget with click pens or snap the lid on and off capped pens over and over and over until everyone around him wants to strangle him alive. Veld got him into fountain pens so that he'd stop doing that during mission briefs and meetings.

For more complex issues, as indicated in the story above, Tseng is horribly indirect in social situations. This is doubly true when he thinks someone else has a problem with him, which leads to him asking questions of mutual acquaintances, making observations and constructing timelines to try to figure out whether he or the other party is in the wrong, and overthinking every previous interaction he can think of instead of just asking the other person what's going on.

This is less annoying for the people who don't realize it's happening, but for everyone else there's a lot of "Just ask him. Oh my god. Just ask him what's wrong! Tseng you are THIRTY-EIGHT YEARS OLD just ASK HIM if he's mad at you!"

35. Their idea of a perfect day?

Even with alarms off, Tseng wakes up a little after sunrise, even on the weekend. He rolls over, slings his arm over Reeve in bed and stays there until Reeve wakes up about an hour later. They get up, Reeve checks his phone—Tseng takes it from him, because they're off work today. He goes through Reeve's notifications, snoozes all of them for 48 hours, then gives him back his phone.

Reeve makes coffee while Tseng makes sure Cait Sith is set on assignments for the day, and then both and and Reeve see him off for the day. Cait Sith won't connect directly with Reeve except in an emergency, and Tseng isn't worried about that; he can take care of himself, and things are quiet these days anyway. The biggest problems they have to deal with these days are ordinary people with legal agreements, not overpowered superhumans with lethal aggression.

Tseng gets dressed before Reeve, because Reeve likes to shower first thing in the morning and Tseng likes to shower before he goes to bed. He makes breakfast while Reeve is washing up, and gets a call from Reno that he's letting Elena off early today because she has a date. It'll mean they're running a little skinny through the weekend, but the mission board is almost empty so he's not pressed about it. Tseng says that's all right, he trusts Reno's judgment, and he'll talk to him on Monday.

He pages through the worst gossip rag in Junon while Reeve eats breakfast, periodically turning the magazine around to ask if Reeve thinks a particular photo of this or that public figure was taken by Kunsel. Reeve agrees with him every time, except for the one of Vincent, and they both admit that Kunsel is too scared of Vincent to have done that. They spend some time theorizing who would have taken the chance, going well past the point that breakfast is done, but don't reach a consensus before an alarm goes off and it's time to head out.

Up on the roof of the WRO's executive housing facility, Tseng and Reeve load up one of the organization's aircars—like an airship, but stripped down to the smallest versions of the barest essentials until it's not quite the length of a travel trailer—and spend the next few hours in the sky. The autopilot gives Tseng some time to read, although it always makes Reeve anxious. This is funny, singe Reeve helped develop the aircar in the first place, so he knows there's no risk of them going down just because Tseng took his eyes off the instruments for a few minutes, and Tseng teases him about it until Reeve begrudgingly concedes.

They touch down in Costa, but not on the landing pad—not even properly in town, instead settling just past the cliffs that divide the commercial, public beaches with the less-accessible stretch of shoreline to the north. Reeve unloads the aircar and Tseng sets up, propping up an umbrella, unfolding chairs and draping them in towels, situating the cooler and pulling out one of those cheap premade smoothies-in-a-pouch for lunch. He gets changed while Reeve has his own lunch, and they spend the rest of the day at the beach; around sunset they get back in the car (leaving all those things they brought on the sand, no one can get here except from the air and everything is replaceable anyway) to head into town, where they get dinner from a food truck on the side of the road as they walk from the landing pad to the hotel where they'll spend the night.

Tomorrow afternoon, they'll head home. But for a little over 24 hours, there's nothing but sunshine and sand and water, ice melting in a plastic cooler, slightly-uncomfortable folding chairs and sand-crusted towels. No work, no responsibilities, no crises to avert.

And when Tseng goes back to work on Monday, he'll remember exactly why that work is worth doing, which feels pretty perfect to him.

44. Their happiest memory?

I would say that Tseng doesn't have a lot of happy memories, but that's not really it. The thing is that for Tseng, happiness is a fleeting, finite thing; contentment is possible eventually, but happiness is different, happiness is deeper, and it isn't until after the world has come to and end multiple times that he finds it in a more permanent sense. Before that, his happiest memories are...not what most people would consider pleasant? But they're happy nonetheless.

Pinned under rubble when he was too young and too naive to know when to give up, sure that he was going to die, and then having Veld show up to save him after insisting over and over that he wouldn't.

Security footage taken from Kalm, seeing Aerith under a blue sky for the first time and knowing that it was where she was meant to be, that she was finally getting to see the world that belonged to her.

Sitting in the forest outside the Forgotten Capital, bruised and bleeding after days of torture at the hands of the Remnants, watching Vincent work on treating Elena's injuries—first, before Tseng, because she was unconscious and he wasn't—and eventually turn to Tseng and declare without a hint of uncertainty that she would pull through.

If asked, Tseng would say that he has a lot of happy memories. Nobody else would think they're happy at all.

It’s a polite but firm dismissal, even as Marlene pouts, her lower lip jutting out defiantly. “But…”

“Why don’t you go pick some fresh flowers for dinner.” Elmyra’s hand on Marlene’s back as she guides the girl towards the door makes it apparent that this is not a request and Marlene sighs with the weight of someone at least three times her age as the door closes behind her.

“Thank you,” Elmyra says without looking at Reeve, dusting her hands off onto her apron as she watches Marlene through the window.

“I…”

It’s all a lie.

He studies Elmyra’s face and finds a flinty hardness underneath her smile.

She knows.

She knows and she’s thanking him anyway.

“You’re welcome,” he says, swallowing down the lump in his throat.

in fanfics i often see people portraying levi as being kinda rough and mean in his speech and while that is true he is also capable of being softer and he really understanding and often thanks people and shows them that he appreciate them (which you pointed out actually)

he is also often teasingly mean

how do you think those trait balance out in levis manner of speaking?

Hi again, and thank you as always for your kind words. I haven't gotten a single hate message since I turned anon off, so that pretty much tells the tale. They're just cowards and losers, honestly, and everyone knows it.

Anyway, to answer your question, I've said before, but I think Levi's "rudeness" is really more a product of him just simply lacking social skill, rather than him being intentionally mean. Of course there's exceptions, mostly with Erwin, where he genuinely is trying to insult him, lol. And of course, with Zeke and a few others. But I think Levi's bluntness and honesty is a large part of why he comes across as "mean" or "rude". He isn't trying to be, most of the time, he just isn't well versed in how to couch his thoughts in more palatable terms. Levi was raised, very literally, to approach people directly. Kenny's idea of how to say hello was to kill them, or physically assault them in some way, and that's the kind of example Levi grew up with. By some miracle, he didn't turn out to be a sociopath like his uncle, but I think that kind of direct confrontation is something Levi was raised in. Just getting in people's faces and telling them what he thinks and feels. He was never shown a more refined or delicate way of expressing himself. We see that in Levi's own bursts of violence too. He was taught that if you want to get a point across, sometimes physical violence is the best means of doing so. And it isn't a reflection on Levi as a person, really. It doesn't expose some psychopathic tendency on his part. It's just simply what he was taught, that if you want someone to listen who otherwise isn't, hitting them will get their attention.

There's really no finesse or deceptiveness to the way Levi operates. And while, yeah, sometimes that can make him scary, if you ask me, it makes him a hell whole of a lot less scary, and dangerous, than a guy like Zeke, for example, who you never know when he's lying to you, or using you. Zeke's the kind of guy that will smile to your face and then stab you in the back. Levi's the kind of guy who will just stab you, and make sure you know it's him, lol. At least with Levi, you always know you're getting the truth.

And I think that honesty is also in part linked to his compassion. He has no interest in lying. He has no interest in manipulation or control of others. With Levi, you get what you see, and it's because he has too much respect for other people and their perspective to ever lie to them, or use them, or try to manipulate them. If he wants your help, he'll just tell you directly. His interactions with Dimo Reeves is a good example. He just told him straight up, the SC would help him and the town of Trost, and in exchange, they would expect his cooperation in return. He didn't try to bullshit Reeves, and Reeves appreciated that.

Hi I'm here on another Vanessa Afton/Shelly rant.

Because I love music as much as I love this blorbo, of COURSE I made a Vanessa playlist. Will I link it? Maybe if you ask I don't know, I'm not confident in anything ever.

ANYWAY. Chase Petra is such a Vanessa-coded band to me. I love them. Like, almost every song I can pick out each line that suits her. Below the break I'll go through a few.

First song: Nature vs. Nurture

Okay. Yeah. I may be projecting, but hear me OUT. Okay? Okay! Before we move on, we have to accept the fact that I think William was a bad dad. Like downright horrible. Anyway, just start with the first stanza.

It could so easily be representative of the fact that. She was raised by a killer who likely manipulated her and convinced her that his mess was her own. She wouldn't Know which words were her's or her father's, she would just know to listen and behave.

"They crumbled right in front of me" could so easily connect to two things. One, the fact that even if she was unconscious, William crumbled and died right in front of her. Two, if you consider that the ghost child for Golden Freddy was her little brother got bite of 83'd, the crumble could be William's descent to madness.

Vanessa was to young to see all the death she probably did, simply being a pawn in her dad's game.

Skipping ahead a bit, I'm not the most sure where her mother would fit in, but this is so tied closely to Vanessa standing up against her father in her own little ways.

This part hurts specifically so bad. Vanessa was waiting and hoping and wishing to make it to adulthood so she could escape her father and leave it all behind, but it just. Didn't work. She was still stuck doing his bidding after surviving and waiting for so long before she finally fought back and got stabbed.

She grew up too fast, and the effects her father left lasted.

3. Obscure headcanon 

Sephiroth's eyes don't just look like a cat's, they function more like a cat's than a person's.

he's extremely sensitive to any horizontal movement, but has a harder time with vertical movement

he's not colorblind, per se, but his rods/cones ratio means he sees less color than other people do, literally making his world more grey and drab

however, that also means he has spectacular night vision. To the point where he will not think to turn the lights on in a dark room. Him sitting alone in his office in the dark is not (just) him being dramatic and edgy, it's because he can see just fine and forgot to turn on the lights. ironically, he does play it off like he was dramatically brooding, anyway, because he's deeply embarrassed by foibles that mark him out as specifically unlike other humans. He would much rather be thought of as dark and edgy than as a forgetful cat.

8. Unpopular opinion about them

I don't think this is unpopular with this crowd, but it's wildly unpopular elsewhere:

Sephiroth is gay. Gay gay homosexual gay. No interest in or attraction to women whatsoever. He's also mostly asexual, anyway, but it is decided homo-asexuality. Not aromantic though. He'd be a long walks on the beach, candle-lit dinners, sharing a single milkshake, chocolates and flowers guy. And a cuddler.

Big brother Reeve Headcanons!

let’s start of with that Reeve would be an Amazing older brother, alright?

He takes you everywhere, walks with you to school (or walks you to school if you go to primary school and he in highschool), takes you to lunches on the weekends, even let’s you crash his dates with Adam & Kai.

You guys probably listen to music and scream to it, most likely in the lounge room, kitchen or his bedroom (I’d imagine him having a bigger room considering he’s the eldest, though he’d probably end up switching room with you as you get older and need more space.)

If you get a partner, he’d stand over them, giving them a threatening little chat about hurting you, but also doing the same to you, making sure you knew that if you ever cheated or hurt your partner in any way, you’d have him to deal with.

I fully believe that Reeve took Martial arts as a kid and gives you lessons on how to defend yourself.

If he takes you to hang out with his friends, Mira would talk about animals with you, and I reckon if you asked to get your hair dyed, Mira would do it, she seems like a professional hairdresser.

Vanessa would teach you cheat codes to games, and I fully believe she’d practice eyeliner on you, to scared to do so on herself.

Kai would help you in school projects, helping you build things and we all know Kai is a total nerd (affectionate) and would definitely help with homework.

If you ever get bullied, I think Reeve would go to Adam for help, knowing the younger teen was bullied as a kid and wanted advice on how to cheer you up.

Skeet teaches you how to skateboard, or he lets you watch if you don’t want to learn.

As an only child (with a step brother I was never close with and no friends) I’ve always wanted a sibling figure who’d listen to my interest and not brush them aside because they don’t like it and I fully believe Reeve is that kind of person. If you’re emotionally attached to a fictional character, relationship or fandom, he’d let you talk about it without getting annoyed and if you asked him, he’d watch whatever fandom or play whatever game that you’re talking about. (^ I want this so bad- one of my only friends won’t let me rant about Hamilton or heartstopper or anything else without seeming annoyed so I just stop.)

Anyways- Reeve always tuck you into bed, no matter how old you are and it doesn’t matter if you say that he does have to, he’s been doing it since you were a kid and he isn’t stopping now.

If you’re a part of the lgbtq+ community, he supports you with no hesitation (obviously)

All in all, I fully believe he’d be an amazing older brother.

Furniture Shopping and Dinner with Grams

Unfortunately for Vaughn, it did not rain the entire weekend like he thought. Veronica meant it when she said she wanted to get a new couch and cancelling on his Grams for dinner was out of the question. Truly the universe was working against him. Plans to keep Veronica all to himself the entire weekend were ruined.

Vaughn: I thought redecorating my apartment was wifey duties
