The thing about the apology streams is that in retrospect they are so confused in their messaging that they end up falling apart completely and it’s like. Ok so the apologies to Tommy and Niki and fundy were all kind of really shit because Wilbur barged into their lives and expected one debatably kind act to undo everything he’s ever done to wrong them (or in Niki’s case she just has her apology completely hijacked for a stupid ghostbur moment). And the others had their own complications. So as a viewer you’re watching this and going ah so Wilbur is going to learn that this isn’t enough, learn that One Grand Meaningful Action isn’t enough to erase everything that’s come before, that these apologies are shallow and that he needs to actually put in the work to earn his friends’ trust back. And eventually, that does become the message!

Which like, first off what does Wilbur even have to apologize for? Sure you could argue that he hurt them in pogtopia but like, get in line bro. For being mistrustful and distant? From the man who murdered you and planted the first few seeds of paranoia that would go on to destroy your life? “Oh but she’s changed! She’s not like that anymore!” Yeah but Wilbur doesn’t know that! So when you have Eret be the one who’s like “these apologies are shit” you just completely shoot yourself in the foot, and any impact on the narrative that could have been had by a revelation like that completely fizzles out (and is then shot in the head while it’s down by boundless sands, where Wilbur ends his character’s story with yet another Grand Meaningful Action)!
