sudden realisation that the thing holding my art back is that I never had an anime phase
#going to find a time machine and get my younger self into death note or smth#I have been driving myself insane for the past few years bc I wanna draw characters but all I know how to do is portraits#Iâm trying to figure out how I could recreate smth similar now and tragically I think it does just come down to draw more :/#however! I am also going to try using brushes which will be bad for sketchiness and better for lineart bc I might need to force myself here#I just gotta simplify things down to basic shapes how hard can it be#[has been thinking this exact thing for years and itâs not worked]#I am getting better every time I do stuff Iâm just not satisfied bc art is frustrating when you know what you want but canât get there#god itâs 2am I should not be awake rn but I could draw again tonight so I was taking advantage#endlessly frustrated by hair. why is it so awkward. i come up with ideas based on the most random things because wdym i just rambled on about fucking fingers and decided,,,, heh,,,,, yeah. this is a good idea. well i mean i do think it IS a good idea but also like in hindsight and out of context i do think its totally fucking stupid. angel92 ahh post đđđ
anyways i was thinking about mtt and fingers and which ones they would lose as a result of being with eachother but then that also means that i'd have to give specific meanings to the fingers (ughhhh,,,,,) ok lets see. pointer finger would represent precision and clear vision because you literally use it to specifically gesture to things. middle finger is like ughh vulgarity and hatred because its the middle finger. the ring finger (heh! i already spoke about this one because of the myth that its connected to the heart and also holds wedding rings) represents love and the pinkie represent promise (PINKIE PROMISE!) and the thumb represents basic functioning and interpretations (because the thumb helps us literally hold things and also thumbs up and down shows your view on things)
i think if i just tack this idea onto the other post about ring fingers then it would be kinda unrealted + plus too long SO ITS GOING HERE. all the mtt are missing ring fingers because i said so. dust is missing an index finger because if the trio break up he's the only one that wouldnt have anywhere/one to go. also he'd struggle to smoke and i think that horror would always complain about him smoking so it'd be like horror's still kinda there warding him off from smoking even though he's not there anymore. horror would lose his middle finger because he'd probably be the most agressive against kist in mttpoly and now without them there he's kinda chilled out. but also the agression and spark isnt there and now he's stuck in plain old boring regular horrortale again which isnt all that fun,,,, even if dust an killer sucked fighting was a way to pass time. but horror would never admit that. and i think killer could lose a thumb (ill be fr im just running out of fingers to use here. next thing yk i'll start talking about TOES) and then he'd struggle to hold knives normally now. he literally can't hurt others the way he hurt horror and dust (but also that could also mean that killer just has to come up with more creative ways to main. or also his reduced actions could result in him causing less trouble and therefore having less threats. depends on if killer wants to be a bit more knife happy or just chil,,,,,, you KNOW i gotta go with the knife happy idea mtt NEVER get a break and if they do i immediately forget about it)

You sit with them individually, shoulder to shoulder (much closer than you would normally sit), and pretend everything is alright. They're surprised but very quick to snap back into a good mood.
The house is suddenly back in order and you did it all by yourself.
And with these vigilantes, conflict is ripe. There's always people coming and going, fighting and playing, and you're unwillingly the most in-tune with the well-being of everyone's relationships.
You protect your peace. You protect the house.

IâM SO GLAD YOU ASKED!! One, I have also been rotating this around in my brain for quite some time and how I feel very lightly colors how I write for them! I haven't read much (if any at all) of the myths so I will just be looking at the present. I love thinking about this cause tbh sometimes the characterizations in game are not as full as I would like. I wonât keep this long but if you want more detail Iâm happy to add to this post! Anyway! Here are my thoughts!
Rafayel is literally the reason I had this thought in the first place. I thought it was so silly to think that he as a rich artsy boy had never ONCE hooked up with someone. He absolutely is a FUCKBOY! I will hear nothing else about it. I can't image he's not when so much of his overall characterization just oozes that kind of energy for me. My exception to this is that I don't think he enjoyed himself very much. Used sex kind of like a numbing thing cause he felt the void of your absence hard. He's not like a community dick kind of fuckboy but he has definitely been passed around a few times, if not as a professional then in art school.
Xavier is another one who I feel has some experience before (re)meeting MC. His experience is alot more clumsy and unsure compared to Rafayel. More of a situation like 'I want to be ready when I find her so I'm going to try it with someone else to be good at it. There may only be one person he's had sex with before MC and it was so bad she just had to leave. When that failed he just turned to erotica and p*rn to fill in the gaps. Eventually getting used to using his own imagination and getting off when needed. So when the time comes he's very prepared and VERY horny.
Sylus is a bit of a hard one because yes absolutely he is having sex with people before meeting MC. His overall vibe very much eludes to the fact that he has lived a life and I'm sure that is included. I don't think he's slinging it out to anyone who asks but he has been in some kind of relationship before. If anything we can say he is very comfortable having sex and has had sex before meeting MC. I have some more thoughts on this but I will keep it there for now!
Zayne from what I know has said that he isn't experienced and we are his first and I believe that. He very much gives full focus on the task at hand kind of man. Definitely not in high school but in med school I image him having a non serious fling with someone just to say he tried. They broke up soon after and he just never tried again until he and MC reconnected. That being said, he is a bit of a perv and has ALOT of pent up energy so once they start they literally don't stop. Like a weekend stuck in an endless loop of sleep, eat, fuck until he's at work desperate for you once again. The problem for him is learning how to control himself now that has MC.

S2 mega spoiler asks/answers. don't click readmore if you're avoiding it.
That entire thing really did not land for me and took me extremely out of the episode ngl. The way it is framed and later on referenced on warwick's delusion flashbacks (IN MY OPINION) seemed to suggest that their mom was embroiled in an unrequited love triangle with these two and i could feel my brain leaking out of my ears because, to get back to a previously mentioned problem; it makes the world feel really, really limited. Like there's 10 real people surrounded by a population of NPCs. The idea of silco/vander as singlehandedly responsible for a 'revolution' that has no lineage beyond themselves is already laughable but?? they frame it as if vander could legit have been vi's dad?? he picks the name?? and that he is maybe seething in rage at silco because he was the reason she died??? huh? whuh? what in all of the wattpad fanfiction. not to mention... it makes silco constant attempts to kill vi in s1 seem contradictory and nonsensical. His motivations???????????
In some ways.. it is still resource exploitation now but Worse and in a time-ticking bomb sort of way that absolutely breaks the idea of Piltover using hextech for decades at a time. Im curious to see if that will be referenced in game content now bc it legitimately has shattered the timeline. I think its once again unnecessary and sacrifices a lot of good stuff for mid hand-wringing. But yeah. P/Z as presented in arcane has had so much personality sapped out of it. a whole roster of characters who might get completely rebooted for no good reason.

TBH i wouldn't really worry about this because i think if anyone is getting a new sex scene its going to be cait/vi makeup or hatesex. Sky is a plot convenience; her existence for the show's entire runtime is an accessory that they couldn't even bother fleshing out. The definition of the not-gays.
My reasoning is that if they were going to do any of that we would have already seen her do these things, more things, in the scenes she already appears in; but as always she is a static 3D model lounging in the background. (Related: this might be because she is Literally Not Real and the hexcore is just making up a faint mimicry who can only say 1 word.) Their time budget is really messy this season and i just don't see them wasting More time like that. They don't care for sky. never did! She's just a way to avoid letting viktor be an ideologue glorious evolutionist.
We already know internally some of the animators & art team like jayvik & there's even a few for-fun outside of the company interviews w/ crew expressing a preference to jv on a personal level ÂŻ\_(ă)_/ÂŻ the more the script tries to push it as nonromantic the more coded these scenes get. In terms of actual interaction i think a lot is going to depend on whatever the hell happens in episode 6 because their screentime is REALLY low and im unsure act3 can pull off another timeskip. So much left dangling.
IDGAF about meljay and i've never cared about meljay i think it is the culpirit of not-gays #1 so its hilarious how that shit literally didn't matter. The entire noxus storyline is a can of worms i would have thrown in the garbage and have no interest in. Still, in realistic terms, there is a 50/50 chance this season ends with jayce married 2 kids 1 dog 1/2 parrot moving out to noxus and saying 'heh, i never liked piltover anyway' and they'll play it like we're supposed to clap because nothing matters
if i was in charge we'd get full frontal jayvik stigmata scissoring write that down. I still hope if we can manifest 1 thing it is a good fight scene with some choking on it

hello! im just finishing up my read of structures of scientific revolutions, which has genuinely been very useful and shifted my understanding of science in a way being around people doing scientific research all day really didn't! i don't have a liberal arts education so i would love to get a sense of (a) what else of the philosophy / history of science canon is worth reading in the original (b) standard review papers or introductory textbooks and (c) critiques of the canon. i understand this is a big ask ofc, so feel free to point me to good depts / syllabi from good courses. thanks :)
yessss such a fun question >:) so, the thing that was so great about 'the structure of scientific revolutions', which i'm sure you've picked up on, is that kuhn pushed historians and philosophers of science to challenge the positivist model of science as a linearly progressive search to 'accumulate knowledge'. the idea of a 'paradigm shift' was itself a paradigm shift at the time; it was an early example of a language for talking about radical change in science without giving into the assumption that change necessarily = 'progress' (defined by national interests, mathematisation, and so forth). this is still an approach that's foundational to history and philosophy of science; it's now taken as so axiomatic that few academics even bother to gloss or defend it in monographs (which raises its own issue with public communication, lol).
where kuhn falls apart more (and this was typical for a philosopher of his era, training, and academic milieu) is in the fact that he never developed any kind of rigorous sociological analysis of science (despite alluding to such a thing being necessary) and you probably also noticed that he makes a few major leaps that indicate he's not fully committed to thinking through the relationship between science and politics. so for example, we might ask, can a paradigm shift ever occur for a reason other than a discovered 'anomaly' that the previous paradigm can't account for? for instance, how do political investments in science and scientific theories affect what's accepted as 'normal science' in a kuhnian sense? are there historical or present cases where a paradigm didn't change even though it persistently failed to explain certain empirical observations or data? what about the opposite, where a paradigm did change, but it wasn't necessarily or exclusively because the new paradigm was a 'better' explanation scientifically? how do we determine what makes an explanation 'better', anyway, especially given that kuhn himself was very much invested in moving beyond the naĂŻve realist position? and on the more sociological side, we can raise issues like: say you're a scientist and you legitimately have discovered an 'anomaly'. how do you communicate that to other scientists? what mechanisms of knowledge production and publication enable you to circulate that information and to be taken seriously? what modes of communication must you use and what credentials or interpersonal connections must you have? what factors cause theories and discoveries to be taken more or less seriously, or adopted more or less quickly, besides just their 'scientific utility' (again, assuming we can even define such a thing)?
again, this is not to shit on kuhn, but to point out that both history and philosophy of science have had a lot of avenues to explore since his work. note that there are a few major disciplinary distinctions here, each with many sub-schools of thought. a 'science and technology studies' or STS program tends to be a mix of sociological and philosophical analysis of science, often with an emphasis on 'technoscience' and much less on historical analysis. a philosophy of science department will be anchored more firmly in the philosophical approach, so you'll find a lot of methodological critique, and a lot of scholarship that seeks to tackle current aporias in science using various philosophical frameworks. a history of science program is fundamentally just a sub-discipline of history, and scholarship in this area asks about the development of science over time, how various forms of thinking came into and out of favour, and so forth. often a department will do both history and philosophy of science (HPS). historians of medicine, technology, and mathematics will sometimes (for arcane scholastic reasons varying by field, training, and country) be anchored in departments of medicine / technology / mathematics, rather than with other faculty of histsci / HPS. but, increasingly in the anglosphere you'll see departments that cover history of science, technology, and mathematics (HSTM) together. obviously, all of these distinctions say more about professional qualifications and university bureaucracy than they do about the actual subject matter; in actuality, a good history of science should virtually always include attention to some philosophical and sociological dimensions, and vice versa.
anywayâreading recs:
there are two general reference texts i would recommend here if you just want to get some compilations of major / 'canonical' works in this field. both are edited volumes, so you can skip around in them as much as you want. both are also very limited in focus to, again, a very particular 'western canon' defined largely by trends in anglo academia over the past half-century or so.
philosophy of science: the central issues (1998 [2013], ed. martin curd & j. a. cover). this is an anthology of older readings in philsci. it's a good introduction to many of the methodological questions and problems that the field has grown around; most of these readings have little to no historical grounding and aren't pretending otherwise.
the cambridge history of science (8 vols., 2008â2020, gen. eds. david c. lindberg & ron numbers). no one reads this entire set because it's long as shit. however, each volume has its own temporal / topical focus, and the essays function as a crash-course in historical methodology in addition to whatever value you derive from the case studies in their own right. i like these vols much more than the curd & cover, but if you really want to dig into the philosophical issues and not the histories, curd & cover might be more fun.
besides those, here are some readings in histsci / philsci that i'd recommend if you're interested. for consistency i ordered these by publication date, but bolded a few i would recommend as actual starting points lol. again some of these focus on specific historical cases, but are also useful imo methodologically, regardless of how much you care about the specific topic being discussed.

the first example was my first attempt at rendering btw, but anyways
1: the first thing i do when i make a new drawing is by drawing the sketch, and then color it with your base colors
2: i add another layer and set it to multiply, for my shadows ( i also add a little sun doodle to know where and how my light source will go w the shadows )
and then erase the shadows, try imagining how your light will shine on your character
3: i uhm went overboard w this one but, all you gotta do is paint over your merged sketch and layer, layering your strokes n stuff, blending colors together like adding overlay and making your colors pop... uhh
(ITS COMPLICATED ON HOW TO EXPLAIN HOW I RENDER HELP đIM TRYING MY BEST ) but this is a simple way i guess?? V 1: choose any color and make a random hair strand
2: choose a darker color of your base color and make the base of your hair strand a gradient of the dark color you chose ( dont forget abt your shadow
3: add smaller strands of hair, layering it with another strand and more... ( idk how to explain it) 4: add overlay and play around w any vibrant color to make it pop đ

Bf!Soap was sharing headphones with you on a rainy day, and a sudden thought crossed your mind:
âWait, I need to show you a song, âkinda reminds me of you.â You muttered, reaching for your phone before playing it.
Your head on his shoulder as it played, completely clueless as to how grand your gesture was to him. To you, it was just a song that reminded you of him each time you listened. But to Soap, this was his newest prized possession. Ever since that day, he listened to it incessantly. Either if he was running errands, driving, or humming the melody when he was stressed.
Bf!Soapâs greatest quality was his striking mohawk; (duh) and he protected it with his life. He undoubtedly deemed it his greatest responsibility. He also trusted you with his life, so every now and then he let you trim split ends or unkept strands. (He would've never let anyone else do this in a million years, Simon being the only exception).
Bf!Soap enjoyed the lengthy philosophical conversations youâd randomly have, going from discussing your favourite animals to how the universe began and if there really is a greater power. And although he can be goofy and silly at times that man is genuinely smart.
Bf!Soap perpetually teased you the moment he discovered you couldn't read a clock:
âWhat time is it, bonnie?â he asked, his eyes glued to the TV playing a football match.
You had no access to a digital clock as your phone was dead, so your gaze instinctively shot to the wall clock.
âItâs, um... something something... PM,â
And the moment he came to terms with his newfound discovery, he laughed so hard he got excruciatingly painful cramps and started seeing stars.
âUgh, I just couldnât be bothered to learn when I was younger. We have technology and stuff now!â you proclaimed, defensively crossing your arms.
âOh my word,â he mumbled while clutching his stomach, still wheezing out a few dry chuckles.
From that mildly humiliating experience, he taught you how to read one instead of continuously laughing at you.
"So, bonnie," he began, "You see the big hand, right? That's the minute hand. âTells you how many minutes have passed."
You nodded, feeling a bit sheepish but willing to learn.
"And the wee hand - that's the hour hand."
You watched the hands move, slowly beginning to grasp the concept. "Okay, I think I'm getting it.â
Soap could sense the lingering doubt in your tone. He leaned in closer, his warm brown eyes locked onto yours. "You sure, love?"
âNo - of course I do!â
âŠ
You hesitated, then sighed.
"Okay, maybe not entirely."
"Let's break it down again. Remember, big hand is minutes, wee hand is hours."
He patiently explained it once more, a softness visible in his tone. He took the time to answer your questions and clarify any confusion.
As you finally began to grasp the art of reading a clock, he rewarded you with a proud smile. "See, you've got it now, haven't ya?" he laughed, pressing a kiss to your forehead.
(Clock reading is too simple for someone to not understand, obviously. BUT just imagine soap explaining something complicated to you until you understand - like being so patient, not mansplaining in the slightest. Like ooouuhhđđœââïž)
Bf!Soap was thoroughly amused as he watched you go to town on uninvited moths around the house. You grasped a nearby kitchen towel and started ruthlessly thwacking it. Thankfully for him, he didnât have to deal with the spiders and insects - as you thoroughly enjoyed making them suffer a harsh and unnecessarily truculent death. Maybe it was a bit much, sure. But who asked them to be here, anyway?
Bf!Soap telling you about his dreams alongside your guysâs morning caffeine refreshments was your entertainment for the morning. His dreams almost always included you and were oddly specific and vague, yet so realistic all at the same time.
âSo, babe,â he'd start, settling down on the couch next to you âlast night's adventure was a doozyâŠâ
âIâm intrigued.â You sipped your coffee and mentally prepared yourself for the most diabolical tale youâll ever hear.
âI was in a Jaffa Cake factory, right,â he clicked his tongue before continuing, making an effort to recall all the details âand you were there, too, of course. We were both wearing tangerine suits, whilst Price was throwing potatoes at us, telling us to get back to work and whatnot - no joke.â
Bf!Soap has occasional cooking contests with you. You pick random ingredients, and each of you have to create a dish using those ingredients. Both of you fail oh so miserably- youâve nearly burnt down your house numerous times. Maybe you guys should stick to Tesco meal deals and Deliveroo.đ

I saw your post about art fight (and by the way congrats and I'm impressed by the amount of pieces you've done) and you mentioned drawing furries. I kind of never did but I want to learn, do you have any tips on drawing furries?
Hi yeah my advice is to have an older brother tell you what furries are at the age of 8 and then get completely obsessed with drawing anthropomorphic characters until the age of 18, so if you missed out on that I'm sorry. /j
Anyway, my actual advice is to get used to drawing animals in general. If you already know how to draw humans then you've already done most of the work when it comes to furries, if not thats ok you can learn as you go! I always recommend looking at other peoples work that you look up to and seeing how they do it. Learning to look and pick out shapes and features is always my best advice, it's something you learn to do as you grow but being able to pick out characteristics, shapes and all sorts of what you're looking at will massively help with your work, never be afraid to look up reference!
Simply taking the time to understand how to draw some animals can help set you up for drawing furries, you don't have to learn every single animal right off the bat, just the ones you're interested in to start off with. Once you know how to draw one or two, all the other species should become much easier to learn, or if you just wanna stick with the one species that's fine too, whatever you're happiest doing!
For example, say you wanna draw dog furries, thats fair dogs are cool! I like border collies so I'm focusing on them, look at these guys they're so fluffyyyy
Right away you can pick out some key features, the pointy ears, the medium length snout, the long fur (especially around the neck), the markings, the fluffy tail, these are all key things that make up our awesome collie dog, taking the time to practice these traits first will help you later on for drawing furries, you can practice as you go if you want but if you're starting with nothing, go basic!
Once you're comfortable with drawing animals, putting those traits onto a human shouldn't be as daunting, head goes where the head is, tail goes at the end of the spine, and fur goes all over! Obviously there are so many ways to draw furries but I'm trying to be basic to start off with! Practising with putting human emotions/traits onto animals will help a lot to refine what you're doing, your first attempts won't be pretty so don't worry about trying to make them so, they're for practice after all!
Using this as my excuse to draw my border collie SMG4 inspired OC, come look at Jay he sucks so bad, you'll never guess who he's inspired by. Again learning to mix human emotions and put them onto cartoon animal heads is hard to learn but I promise it's possible and great fun once you know how!
There's no one set of rules for furries, it's whatever you feel works best! Add and take away whatever you want, maybe you want them blue and green with horns and wings, that's totally fine! Get as creative as you want and don't be afraid to go wild, furries aren't real after all, you can do anything you want!
Furries are so expressive and unique, it's one of the many reasons I love drawing them! You can get so much diversity and variation with their design and characters, they can be as realistic or as cartoony as you want! It's always important to have fun with what you're drawing and to be okay with making mistakes, you're not going to get it first try so might as well have fun getting to a point you're happy with!
Hope my insane ramblings helped somewhat, I never know if these actually help because my advice is always just "look at reference and say "fuck it we ballin" untill it looks right", I can't teach that to anyone I have to sound like I know what I'm doing lmao

Hi, I love your art so much đđ it's really lovely in that it gives the characters human qualities and it makes it way more realistic, it's like a refresher from idealistic portrayals of these characters (which I don't have a problem with at all but you get my point) I just love how human and real you make them seem and also your style is so so cute you have my heart pls marry me

I canât imagine anyone of them playing an instrument or being good at singing. Near probably has no particular interest in music in general, so there's not much to tell about him. Matt and Mello are both terrible singers but that doesnât stop them from bawling songs at the top of their voices. I think they often sing in the car together to whatever is in the radio.
I also headcanon Mello and Matt listening to Linkin Park a lot. Meteora and Hybrid theory were running for weeks at a time at their place as background music for a while. And listen - they were 100% at a one of their concerts once.
At March 4th 2008, Linkin Park was on their "Minutes to Midnight World Tourâ and playing in Los Angeles at the staples center. Rather spontaneously, they decided to sneak their way in (of course, you donât really believe they do anything the legal way, do you...) while the concert was already at full swing but got caught. Out of spite, they spent the rest of the evening at a nearby KFC when they see the band walk in and Matt completely loses his shit. He even goes up to them and asks for an autograph and he comes back with his vest (THE VEST, the nasty one, you know which one) full of names and goes "Iâm never gonna wash this ever again!â and Mello shouts through the whole diner "OH COME ON NOW REALLY?!â

So recently I watched this pilot short: Epilogue of endings. Itâs about 12 minutes long, created by a group of animation students over a single summer. I had never heard of the project before it showed up in my youtube recommended.
It changed my brain chemistry. I watched it 9 days ago and I canât stop thinking about it to save my life. The music? Spectacular. The voice acting? Perfect. The art? astounding. The characters? Iâm already emotionally attached. Hotel? Trivago.
Listen, I donât tend to watch of a lot of things anymore unless Iâm with other people, and I have this weird thing about engaging in new media, I think because a lot of what Iâve been watching recently has been kinda disappointing, or very⊠I donât know⊠itâs hard to describe. It just feels like a lot of studios are making characters shallower, relationships strained, and half-assing their world building. A lot of media that Iâve taken in recently is trying very hard to make itself seem edgy and serious and thatâs not what I want right now and definitely not what I need.
But this 12 minute pilot? This is everything I never knew I needed. The characters feel like real people, with complex motivations and interpersonal relationships. Theyâre flawed, but theyâre trying their best with the situation that they have. They have things, other people that they care about and would fight for, they have motivations and backstories that you can see the breadcrumbs of, but have not been revealed yet, and the breadcrumbs are so good you canât wait for the whole loaf. The world-building is exquisite, built up enough that you can see the beginning, but still drawing you in with more questions.Â
I have a more detailed review under the cut, with SPOILERS, but I highly recommend that you go watch the pilot. Itâs 12 minutes of time well spent in my opinion.
So the first scene. Weâre introduced to Lucy, Blu and CG. I think Blu is already my fav, lol. In this scene, we see the three characters playing eye-spy while walking through a forest. Itâs a pretty innocuous scene if we didnât pan up to the sky and see the sun having broken open and Lucy becoming emotional over having to leave town, and presumably the rest of her life behind. Blu doesnât answer her.
So Lucy clearly doesnât know whatâs going on, and Iâm wondering if Blu has limited information himself. Maybe even Blu doesnât know why or how any of this is happening. Maybe Blu literally canât answer her question because he doesnât have the answers. Maybe it hurts, being so helpless and out of control, so heâs in denial to a certain extent, trying to pretend that everything is fine. Heâs trying to keep this little girl, happy and safe and alive, while also presumably dealing with his own shit, and no heâs not doing it perfectly, heâs flawed, as people and characters should be, but heâs trying and so far she is alive and safe to a certain extent so way to go Blu! I think this will probably cause some tension between the two down the road, but for now they just keep walking.
I wonder where theyâre going, if anywhere specific? Why did they leave town specifically, we see thereâs lots of danger pretty much everywhere, did something happen?
Anyways, then we get to this scene of someone fixing what appears to be a subway train. He stops, pulls out a journal and we get some exposition stuff. We find out that the world ended, and how. And WOW. This whole thing was gut-punchingly realistic I feel. People blowing up the competition trying to race off into space when itâs announced that the sun is going to die out? Thatâs something that unfortunately I can see people doing. I wonder/hope that this will become a plot point again later on, and weâll find out what happened to all those people. But anyways thatâs not even the craziest part; the fact the sun broke open and released a whole bunch of eldritch horror monsters??? Yep here we go. And then the next thing hurts. Like a lot. Because the narrator says that âpeople who hoped to live out their last days in normalcy quickly found out that their life-style was no longer sustainableâ. That shit made me want to cry. The want for a peaceful death, a calm death, a painless death, but having even that ripped away from you. This setting that these characters are in is awful and very terrifying, and we can see how it is hurting them, torturing them, but I got to give props to the world building. Itâs good writing. They set up the plot, the problem, whatâs been going on the past couple yrs, some mysteries, to both the viewers and the characters, and in doing so give us some idea of the characters that we do have. Because the characters that we do have are trapped. The characters that we do have are abandoned. The characters that we do have are survivors.Â
And then we pan out to see the narrator having an interaction with one of the Monarchs. And this scene? Gave me chills, man. I was so creeped out by this. Acediaâs âI do not like that response,â Moleâs utter helplessness to do anything, his clear, potent fear of the creature, the way that it just lightly touches him and he flinches. Then the frustration that we see on his face after it leaves, the anger that turns into tiredness and then hopelessness? Someone needs to wrap this man in a blanket stat.
And this is where Iâm starting to think that Blu doesnât really know the full extent of whatâs going on. Thereâs a good chance that Mole knows about the Monarchs because heâs being held prisoner by one. Itâs possible that Mole is seeing the world collapse before his very eyes, while Blu is just seeing the aftermath and not knowing why and I canât say which is more terrifying.
The âI have influence?â line is peak. I love it so much, I canât even say why. That whole little interaction with Lucy saying that she takes after Blu, Blu being so genuinely touched and CG being low-key offended is perfect and I love it. It shows how close they are, how much they care about each other.
The the⊠zombie ppl??? I love the detail of how unlike a lot of teenage protagonists, Lucy listens to Blu, and gets out of danger. She trusts him to handle the situation on his own, and knows that the best thing that she can do right now is get to safety. Thereâs an implicit trust there, in spite of her clear issues with Blu not telling her things, and this is what Iâm talking about when I say the character relationships are complex.
Oh fuck. The transitions? The way that it cuts from one character to another, each unintentionally completing one anotherâs scentences, and unknowingly engaging in conversation. Itâs amazing storytelling, an amazing presentation and for some reason it just confirms to me that these characters are family. They fit together like puzzle pieces. I donât know what else to say.
We get more info on our mysterious narrator, Mole, who is an amnesiac, and clearly going through it. During this scene we see a crumpled newspaper of what seems to be a younger version of him, winning an award for his dedication at being a subway motorman. His name is crossed out in black ink, so we canât see it. Which makes me question, did he do this to himself? Is his amnesia a trauma response to everything heâs going through? Did something happen to the point that his brain decided shutting down and forgetting everything was better than remembering this one thing? And it hurts, because in the picture in the newspaper he looks so happy. So young. So alive. Itâs a stark contrast to the man we see with bags under his eyes, talking to himself and becoming increasingly distressed. I read through the article, and again, props to the team, some other people might have just did random letters or whatever but they put in a whole ass-story, giving the viewers more info about Mole than even he has. We know he was a dedicated subway motorman. We know he was inspired by his father. We know he had a sister. But these answers only serve to bring up more questions? What happened to his sister? Was his father still alive at the time of he end of the world and what was their relationship like? Because thereâs a chance that their relationship was really good, and thatâs why he went on to become a subway motorman, but there is also the possibility that he was pressured into doing so, and the way that he complains about being on a train when the world ended makes me kinda lean towards that option.
Then we see CG and Lucy walking around the underground tunnels and we get more info on them. We find out that CG was created by Lucyâs mom, which begs the question of where is Lucyâs mom???? What happened to her? Is there a chance that sheâs still alive? Does Lucy know what happened to her mother?? Or is this just another thing that Blu is keeping her in the dark about? Does Blu know what happened to Lucyâs mother???? Orâ as you can see I am totally normal about this woman. Anyways.
CG is a fun character, optimistic and bringing a lighter atmosphere to the show, but there is just something⊠off about her in this scene. The disregard for the danger, the naivetĂ©, the joyful voice in such a horrible situation, feels so wrong to me. I wonder though if CG chose to be like this, or a certain amount of it is her programming? Does CG know what happened to Lucyâs mom? I think CG was created to be take care of Lucy but it seems to be the other way around here, why is that?Â
And then we get info on Blu. Blu was a solider during the war when ppl were trying to get all the resources to race off into space. I wonder if Blu had believed that he would be granted a place on one of these ships. (If he managed to survive of course.) Or had he been in the military prior to all this, and was just pulled along? This makes me want to know more about his belief system before and after the end of the world. Also it is implied by CG that Blu is carrying a lot of pressure, and I wonder how that will be dealt with later on⊠hmmâŠÂ
Also the music that plays when Blu uses his arms to pull down the wall? Amazing, I love it, I love the scene, I love the fact that heâs a cyborg, I am so invested in these characters already itâs killing me.
Then we see Mole almost (accidentally) kill Lucy and CG. Heâs out of it, heâs the only person running the trains, he didnât expect to have to watch out for anyone, I think that we can give him a pass on this. Blu doesnât think so obviously.
(Sidenote: the way that Lucy curls into Blu, as he protectively shields her is so cute, my heart, help)
Blu is pissed. His tone doesnât change too much, itâs light, but thereâs this threatening undertone there that kinda creeps me out. Mole tells them he doesnât have a name, before Blu forces him to tell them that its Mole. Wait⊠is he called that bc Moles live underground? Anyways, Blu wants to leave him to die there, which shows an interesting side of his character. Prior to this weâve seen him take a protective, fun role as Lucyâs guardian but here we see this apathy towards someone who is obviously not doing so well. A lot of other people would be excited to find another living person in the apocalypse, but heâs fine just walking away. Is this just because he almost killed Lucy? Or is there something more going on here? In Bluâs bio on the rainbott instagram, it says that Blu was âleft to die in a mysterious incidentâ and itâs interesting that he feels fine leaving someone else to die in such horrible conditions. Again - complex character writing, props to the team.
But Lucy doesnât want to leave him. This shows her compassion and maybe too her want for connection with other people. Blu resists; âLucy that is the most unimpressive man I have ever seen,â this line has no right to be so funny, esp with Mole just staring at him in the background. Did he hear that or is he too far away, too out of it? Then he relents, perhaps solely because of Lucy, or maybe also because of his own want to do the right thing. He doesnât like Mole, he makes that obvious, but if Lucy wantâs to adopt this strange hobo man, fine, if it makes her happy. Heâll do whatever it takes to make Lucy a little more happy.
Moleâs âit doesnât want me to leaveâ scares the shit out of me, and the way that he just freezes up when Acedia shows upâŠÂ
The scene when it talks about humans really creeps me out, and makes me worried even more about Mole. Calling him âentertainingâ and saying that he âbelongsâ to them. It sounds like it sees him as a toy at best, and reminds me of the way that Mole said earlier that the Monarchs had the power to âturn Earth into their own personal sandboxâ. Did Acedia get rid of Mole's memories for that purpose? So that he would 'belong' only to them. I wonder though, why Mole, and if there were others, if Mole had to watch those around him die, or worse when they gave an answer that it didnât like. I wonder what Mole has had to do to scrape by and survive, what heâs been through. But Blu pulls him along anyways, kind of against Moleâs will. Like obviously being with Blu, Lucy and CG is better than being with a horrifying shadow monster, but aforesaid horrifying shadow monster is going to be pissed at him. I wonder how heâs going to react to that, if heâll lash out at Blu or worse, Lucy for rescuing him because now itâs gonna be angry and heâs gonna have to be the one to deal with the fallout of that.
Then the scene where Blu pretends to buy tickets to appease CG? Itâs for comedic relief, but again it makes me think about Blu. Is he doing it because he knows CG will be annoying if he doesnât? Or does he genuinely not want her to be hurt? Iâm not sure.Â
Then the campfire scene. Lucy looks away when Blu removes his mask, Mole tries to lean in to see whatâs behind it. Blu doesnât like this, I assume itâs a sensitive subject, but Mole is again, kind of out of it. Mole is scared of Blu and Blu clearly knows this, even kinda uses it to freak him out. Iâm looking forwards to see that relationship developing, maybe one that contrasts Moleâs relationship with Acedia, I dunno, someone who cares about him in this really twisted way that hurts him, and someone who at first doesnât care at all(at first), but still takes care of him in spite of it. I dunno⊠just vibes.
And Lucyâs little âwhat if we tell ghost stories around the fireâ breaks my heart. Itâs like she too, is in denial to a certain extent. This is just a fun camping trip not the end of the world. Everything is fine. Everything will be fine.
Then the post-credit scene. Thereâs presumably, something left of the government that is working to try and deal with the Monarchs, which gives me hope that there might be a way to stop them, a way to stop all this death and destruction. I am curious about whatâs left of this order, what the gov was like during the war, and how theyâre operating now. Also the way the commander calls the droid C21, and the way that CG is called CG, and the way that he says âfind the girlâ and C21 frowns and does this have something to do with Lucyâs mom??????? What does any of this have to do with Lucy? Does she know more than sheâs letting on, or does not even she know what she knows??? Help I need answers.
Also all the characters in the credits. I desperately hope that they find the main cast and all become friends pls.
CGâs little song is beautiful and I think that it embodies the heart of the show. Like I said earlier a lot of the stuff Iâve watched recently tries very hard to be dark and edgy and a dystopian show where all the characters have been trapped and abandoned and tortured is the perfect setup for some grim and gritty TV. But itâs⊠not. The characters are funny and lighthearted and smiling in spite of all the shit thatâs going on around them. The characters are trying to be nice, to be good. They are connected, they are a family. It is a dystopian setting for sure, but I think that the story is about family, about love and caring for each other. The story is about Blu, Lucy and CG playing eye-spy. The story is about Lucy smiling when she tells Blu her mom said he was a bad influence. The story is about CG wanting Blu to get some rest and take a break. The story is about Moleâs desperate panic at trying to stop the train before it hits Lucy, and Lucy not wanting to leave him to die. The story is about four people sitting around a fire, listening to music.
I really love this story, and I hope to see more of it one day. Itâs really beautiful.

âthatâs because itâs cold, love.â he looked back at you with honey-colored eyes. it was a crime, really, to have such beautiful eyes. surely you must be a criminal, then, to have fallen for such eyes. âyours are much redder.â
âbecause iâm cold.â you huff.
âthat had better be satire, thatâs my best jumper youâve got there.â
âyou told me i could wear it.â
âthat i did.â remus agreed. remus stopped in his steps, leading you to stop as well, and he turned to lean against the banister. he lifted his arm up. âcâmere.â
you gratefully tuck yourself under his arm, pressing yourself against remus, who, despite the cold, was incredibly warm. maybe he was hiding the possibility that his actual best jumper was the one he was wearing right now. remusâ arm settled around you, hugging you close. he gently kissed the top of your head, much to your delight.
âpretty thing.â he murmured against your hair.
âcold thing.â you hum in response. despite the addition of remusâ body heat, you were still shivering, and your ears were still bright red.
âcanât have that, now can we?â remus replied. you feel his arm move from its position around you, the wool from his and your (technically also his) jumper sleeves rustling. his hand takes yours, and he faces you, using your hand to guide you to do the same. his other hand finds your other hand, and he studies them, as if admiring a work of art.
âdidnât i tell you to wear gloves?â he inquired, raising a questioning eyebrow as he looked at your red knuckles.
âmaybe.â
âwhat am i going to do with you?â he tutted, taking your hands and moving them behind him, sliding them into his back pockets. you look up at him earnestly; he was truly the sweetest boy youâd ever met. in that moment, you were sure youâd never fall in love with anyone else ever again.
âcome on, now, you.â remus released your hands, and now wrapped his arms around you, bringing you into a hug you wished would last forever. you rested your cheek on his chest, and he rested his chin on the top of your head. the both of you continued to look out at the scenery. fluffy snowflakes fell lazily from the sky and landed on the powdery wonderland that hogwarts became each winter.
âi used to hate winter.â remus admitted, not once taking his gaze away from the view.
âreally?â
âyeah.â remus confirms. âi thought that all winter did was hinder people, and track snow in the house, which would then melt and get everything damp.â
âpessimist.â you accuse lightheartedly.
ârealist.â remus corrected. âbesides, thatâs changed.â
âhas it?â
âit has.â remus confirmed. âi started liking it when i saw how much you liked it.â
âreally?â you felt your heart flutter. this was easily one of your favorite sides of remusâ the romantic side. more often than not, he hardly even realized he was being romantic; in his eyes, he was just stating the truth. but there was something so incredibly beautiful about the way he worded each truth that you just wanted to give him the world in exchange for one more.
âreally.â he confirmed.
âhey.â
âhm?â
