I always find it strange when media from like the 50s-90s have very little fan content. Especially if they were/are culturally relevant. What do you mean you don’t even reach 1000 fics on Ao3? I can’t even tell if it’s because old forums got nuked or stopped working, or if there genuinely isn’t a big fandom for it across the decades

I get so frustrated by "yeah make vampires scary again" stuff every time a vampire movie has a "monster" vampire (Nosferatu, Voyage of the Demeter, etc). It reeks of an attitude that thinks all horror is about something being ugly and horrifying on the outside. If you can't see the horror in Interview With the Vampire, or a Jean Rollin film, or The Hunger, or Carmilla, or the vampire sections of Baldur's Gate because they are attractive that is absolutely an issue on your end. There is such a rich well of themes to dig into with horror and vampires, especially where sex and romance are concerned, but people are so desperate to separate romance and horror. The despair of being frozen as a child even while your mind matures, the loneliness of an eternity alone, the terror of eternal hunger that can't be sated, the awful seduction by something beautiful but monstrous. Trying to turn vampires into just any other monster doesn't make them more horrifying, its just a more kind of overt horror that can only be done so many times and is often covered better by other monsters.

If you were watching Nosferatu and you noticed the doctors talking about how Ellen had too much blood and that's why she was acting crazy - let me explain why (and also how excited I am that it was included in the script).
From ancient Greece through the Renaissance, we believed in The Four Humors in medicine. Essentially, they thought there were four fluids in the body (blood, yellow bile, black bile, and phlegm) and they determined a person's temperament; an imbalance of them was believed causes illness. The Four Temperaments (based on the balance of their humors) are as follows:
Sanguine: Optimistic and social - (affected by blood)
Choleric: Short-tempered and irritable - (affected by yellow bile)
Melancholic: Analytical and quiet - (affected by black bile)
Phlegmatic: Relaxed and peaceful - (affected by phlegm)
They were also connected to celestial bodies, seasons, body parts, and stages of life. Here's a neat little chart:
Tumblr media
Ellen was already rather macabre, and as she spiraled she became less able to adhere to social convention; it makes sense that a doctor of the time would consider that to be an imbalance of her blood. It also feels worth stating that a sanguine temperament can be likened to the manic phase of a bipolar episode, which Ellen's symptoms certainly could have been indicative of.
I also think it's an interesting (though possibly pointless) connection that a sanguine temperament is linked to the heart, to adolescence, and to Spring.
The heart obviously links to Ellen as she's a hopeless romantic. Adolescence also connects due to not only her young age in the film, but the events causing Orlok's fascination with her happened when she was quite young as well. I would argue that you can tie Spring into Ellen's character also - she was blooming, transforming, awaiting a new breath of life (death?).
It made me so happy to see it included so casually, it was such an accurate portrayal of how medicine would have actually been practiced at the time and it wasn't made into a huge thing. It shows the appreciation and effort Eggers brings to his work.
I can absolutely see how you may just brush past that part (it was brief), or attribute it to vampirism, but it's actually a super cool little detail of our real life medical history!

still dont see how so many people say that dawntrail is poorly written in comparison to other expansions like. what, did you realize you had to learn about a new culture and immediately not care anymore lmao? you've done it before, was this one not white enough for you?
genuinely i think more people should do side quests during msq so idk you can form a heart about the characters you're interacting with if you struggle with that and understand the land better so when impactful shit happens your illiterate ass can actually read and have empathy. theres no excuse for this.
if you can't handle storybuilding and character introductions from the expansion that feels like stormblood and shadowbringers had passionate gay sex that got one of them pregnant and birthed a beautiful daughter they both love and care about then idk what to tell you, maybe youre just lame and can't read. best of luck with that.
#'they dont take as many risks as shadowbringers and endwalker!!' okay one WHAT risk did ENDWALKER take lmao#and two DID YOU PLAY PAST ZORMOR LMAO?????????? HELLO?????????? DID YOU LEAVE TULIYOLLAL??? WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT#like i genuinely think you guys just complain about shit without actually playing the game#god forbid you have to learn about another world#some people heard this was stormblood 2 and immediately gave up caring#oh im sorry you were able to care about literal racist elves in cold france but a refugee? a non white civilization? oh i see#shadowbringers literally set up its societies too they were already in war dawntrail wasnt already#i think people should replay stormblood. it was never a bad expansion and i dont know what people are talking about???#half of the complaints i see for stormblood are racist and the other half werent reading any of the dialogue#'the horrors of war expansion has horrors of war in it i just wanna play on the playground with gay elves'#bitches will literally say they dont understand stormblood or dawntrail and then say yotsuyu was justified zenos is hot and wuk lamat is bad#why play a fantasy game if youre not interested in exploring new worlds#dawntrail takes so many more risks than shadowbringers and endwalker combined and sticks the landing with just about all of them#i think my only problem was how many times theg brought up they arent related by blood. no i can tell lol#some of yall are just haters that cant form their own opinion and are just mindlessly nodding along to somebody#you follow on twitter that was gonna hate DT regardless because zenos didnt come back to life this time#consume new media. go do side quests. touch grass. walk a trail at dawn and perhaps you have appreciation for story building#you guys are pathetic and i wish you the worst <3#dawntrail's twists are on par with shb and stb thats why i call it the love child of stormblood and shadowbringers#ffxiv

🦇 Today marks the english release of:
Tumblr media
Set in Hungary, during the years of World War I, we follow Mina, a young woman who finds herself faced with a dilemma that will cause a major chain reaction in her life. Between hiding her gender and dealing with a threat she never believed was real, the girl must make a choice between abandoning who she was or embracing every part of herself - all while the world crumbles around her.
I finally finished translating my VtM story! I'm well aware of how much I babble about my guys, but now I can finally share this complete work with the tumblr community! Allow me a moment of sentimentality saying that this is one of the things I'm most proud of in my life :')
Tumblr media
Buying options: Gumroad 𓋹 Amazon 𓋹 Or simply via DMs! I'll send you a link with the files after payment :)
Oh! And if you use Goodreads, feel free to log your reading progress.
Tumblr media
I assure you that I studied a lot of the subject (from Remarque's work to real documents) so as to not be insensitive with the real event; while I publish the translation today, this project started in 2022.
I still plan on writing two more, with each being simultaneously a complete narrative and a piece of their story! But, being 100% an independent work, it won't be here for a while.
Tumblr media
Misc. Stuff: Art 𓋹 Board 𓋹 Playlists ♪ ♫ ♪
(Since my "drawing drive" is not necessarily linear with the plot, I didn't add illustrations to the e-book file)
Tumblr media
Extra Disclaimers: • I priced it based on a poll I made, not only on bookstore costs, but if it sounds too much feel free to haggle! My intention is simply to share this story, not to become the next Bezos- • I removed all mentions of VtM/WoD creations so as to not have any legal troubles, since this is an official publication (with ISBN and all!). The rights of this work of fiction are also already registered and protected. • No A I was used in any part of this creation! It was all my sweat and tears work. I'm usually not the proudest person, quite the contrary, but it's kinda cool to be able to say that all this, the story, illustrations, translation, graphical project and physical production of the original portuguese release were all made by me :) • Not only this is a vampire story, it's also set in war; I recommend this book for an 18+ audience.

🏚️ haunted house commissions are back! 🏚️
is your house (or apartment, or rv, or a house you really like from down the street, or a house from a story) haunted? do you wish it was? for a small fee, i'll put ghosts in it for you!
i'm trying out a google form for commissions this time around rather than a first-come-first-serve model. this form will be open for a limited time. probably till around the end of may. i'll have a handful of commission slots to begin with, and i'll pull from the form response pool once more slots start opening up.
want a haunted house? fill out the form here! (reblogs are super appreciated to spread the word! 🫀)

I think part of the reason horror is so important, especially in dark times, is that it deals with the question: When you can't stop what's coming for you, what do you do instead?
When the horror is cosmic, when the dread is too big to be changed, the things that the characters in a well-written horror do still matter, even if it doesn't change the resolution. We feel in an instinctive narrative way that they matter. Small ways of fighting back, forming relationships in the midst of it all, a character picking a tiny goal like keeping one person safe for as long as they can and throwing their life at it again and again, another finding beauty and pointing it out between one calamity and the next... It matters to them, and it matters to the other characters. The middle part matters, even if it doesn't change the ending.
It's not about hope. You don't have to have hope - you can feel in your bones that everything's fucked, and it can be 100% true, but the middle part still matters. I think, in times when it's hard to reach a bar as high as hope, that's what makes horror more accessible. Sometimes you need hope, but sometimes you just need to know that the middle part matters.

I haven't been able to contact any of my friends and family in Bangladesh all day. Nationwide internet shutdown. Phone-lines are cut off. The last I heard was that there was curfew and tanks were out in the street.
I'm worried sick as you can imagine.
The death toll has gone up from 6 to 54 in a single day.
I wonder about those men in the armies who are shooting and beating up the students. How can you do this to your own people? They are the real Rajakars.
Even the people who will actually be benefiting from the quota support the students. Who are they doing this for.
