saying the information we got on the fire nation and air nomads from any of the chronicles of the avatar novels is “the result of out of touch white guys” is so fucking funny considering both of the authors we’ve had are poc….. like ribay is filipino and a lot of filipino characteristics/themes/and culture was written into the reckoning of roku…. including the way the fire nation was represented coming from a filipino’s perspective
can yall be for real?? 😭 just cause you’re mad your favs and their nation are canonical colonizers doesn’t mean you get to call everything that doesn’t make them look good racist or out-of-touch. the call might be coming from inside the house

I only have one instance of cemetery and it's already been posted to this blog, but I do have graveyard as well!
If the centre of the city is a corpse, the outskirts are more like a graveyard. The heart of Neo-Babylon at least had debris and rubbish littered in it's streets, buildings reinforced against the Brume with welded sheets of steel and scavenged materials, signs and structures and graffiti sprayed here and there to tell you though unseen, there was a presence of people in the husk of the city, who like shadows or ghosts clung to the dark but lived here still. Out here, there are no such signs. Only the sound of the frothing sea like a half-pacified demon swirling and lapping at the giant concrete structure which makes up the pier of Neo-Babylon, the ships gutted like dead fish tentatively tethered to the dock. They are huge, corroded things, massive sections of their hulls ripped out that leave their insides exposed, the organs of the lower decks and the engines left to rust in the air. Like the architecture in Neo-Babylon, they are immense, brutal, and disintegrating in the wake of radiation, relics of a city that was once prosperous. It is firmly unsettling, Vítor decides as he walks in silence with Saccade. To see such giant things, things that should be titans of progress and industry, now left to rot by the wayside, growing rust and gathering dust. When he stretches his neck up to try to spy the state of the deck, the masts raise so high into the distance he cannot see the tops of them, lost in the lazy glow of the Brume. “They said we’d know it when we saw it, but I got no idea how we’re meant to make heads or tails of this place,” Saccade grunts next to him, her voice loud but still muffled slightly by the grey gas mask that covers her face. “I mean, how are we meant to tell one ship from the rest? I can barely fuckin’ tell the fishing boats from the battleships, they all look like shite."

You know what's annoying about the whole Gaza Genocide situation? The fucking pandering of the ICJ, ICC and the countries that honestly support Palestine. Entire Zionist occupation has been breaking international law constantly throughout this entire tragedy with no backlash.
USA and UK recently fucking bombed a section of Yemen with the Trump trial as cover. Israel continuously ignored rulings from ICJ to stop their bullshit. Even moreso when Hamas have actually been civil to ceasefire proposals and is willing to go to trial if arrest warrants for them were made.
Israel's government has proven to not be trustworthy with every single throwing a tantrum whenever something doesn't go their way. NO MORE. I say it's time for either UN peacekeepers or another country to go into Palestine and drag their asses OUT.
Netanhyu doesn't want any Israeli hostages to come back alive. From the message of Alexander Trufanov, one such hostage, they want to bring back corpses as it is much cheaper option. Proof further confirmed when a recent report showed an IDF soldier killing another before they could get captured by a Resistance Fighter or the recovered few soldiers in Jabaliya area.
The Israeli Government doesn't care about anyone out in Palestine coming back alive. Joe Biden wants to profit off the genocide, Jill Biden doesn't care either just in case anyone wants to bring up a potential divorce. We don't need bloody pandering with proposals and discussions when it comes to international law anymore.
Palestine alongside everyone else suffering from this genocide deserves direct action to be done. Israel, America and their allies have destroyed more war standards than fucking HITLER. Drag the IDF out of Palestine entirely. Slap on those arrest warrants. Then we can actually get the hostages from both sides back home as the Zionist regime responsible are tried for their crimes.
One massive step for Palestine will be a giant leap for the world. To do this means no one is above international law and the corruption deep in every government can finally begin to be rooted out. Should another genocide occur after this then justice shouldn't be allowed to pander again.
GET MOVING ICJ AND ICC.
For anyone in the United States, on June 8th, there's a protest to surround the White House for the Rafah Massacre. Netanhyu is visiting Congress so be on guard about more spontaneous law passing. Also please be careful as police brutality is guaranteed and who knows what they will dish out to remove Pro-Palestine protestors off grounds.

Rick Riordan's problematic age gaps
Apparently reddit hates criticism because this got removed from there after a few minutes, maybe I can get it back up...anyways.
The age of consent in Texas is 17, Texas is where Rick lived (according to wikipedia) up until 2013. And yet...here we are.
Where do I even begin with this bullf*ckery? How about the most egregious of all?
Luke and Annabeth
We have two lines confirming their mutual feelings, one from The Demigod Diaries:
"Overtime, Annabeth developed a crush on Luke. As Annabeth got older, Luke developed feelings for her, too."
Mark of Athena (from her conversation with Venus):
"First there was Luke Castellan, her first crush, who had seen her only as a little sister; then he’d turned evil and decided he liked her—right before he died."
Now let me remind you, Annabeth and Luke have a seven year age difference, they knew each other at 7 and 14. By the time he died, Annabeth was just 16, while he was 23. And it's implied he begun returning her feelings a little before he asked her to run away, perhaps when she was 14. He's paralleled with Percy as Annabeth is his string in the river styx. He asks Annabeth explicitly if she loved him romantically (and she denies because Percy is there).
It's disgustingly inappropriate but at the very least they don't end up together...as for when they do...
Sadie Kane and Anubis
When it comes to immortal romance, I usually go for coded age. Anubis is thousands of years old but is mentally and physically 16, which is fine and dandy except for the fact that Sadie is 12. What do you want me to say except Rick is disgusting for promoting this.
Speaking of extreme age gaps:
Calypso and Leo
When you have a philosophy that every character must end up in a relationship, you run out of sensical options to pair up. Now, I'm a Caleo hater mainly because of how it retconned PJO and also because they are very toxic.
Now hold on, doesn't Caleo fall into coded age? Calypso is 15/16 and Leo is 15, so it's A okay! I suppose, if it wasn't for Calypso's past loves.
Odysseus, he had a wife and a son who was 20 years old in his final year on Ogygia, he is well into adult age. She also mentions the privateer Francis Drake and his wife Elizabeth, he was 45 when he married her.
If your defence is that she's actually thousands of years old, then that must also apply to Caleo. You cannot have it both ways.
Hazel and Frank
It's not that bad but it's necessary to mention for the point I will be making.
The timeline is messed up but I think they're 13 and 16 and meet at 12-15. I mean, come on.
Misogyny and Racism
What do these have in common? Well in 3/4 or 4/4, the younger one is female. In 2/4 or 3/4, the younger one is a person of colour.
Remember Nico? His crush on Percy as revealed in HoH? Well in MoA, there's a cheeky little red herring that happens a bit before Annabeth's talk with Venus (where it is revealed that Luke liked Annnabeth back). She wonders if Nico had a crush on her, but denounces him as too young. Now, Nico's age is inconsistent, I am unsure of his gap with Annabeth but I do know his gap with Percy. It's 3 years 5 months in PJO and 2 years 5 months in HoO (the series we are currently in).
So in RR's messed up mind, a white boy having a relationship with someone 2 to less than 4 years his senior is inappropriate. But a black tween girl dating someone 3 years her senior is just fine, a 12 year old biracial black girl dating a 16 year old is daijoubu, a 15 year old mestizo Latino boy dating an elderly woman is relationship goals, or the reverse a 15 year old girl dating middle aged men is a tragic romance and a 12 year old girl having mutual feelings with a 19 year old man is a "love story for the ages"!
The tv adaptation is so infuriating for this, they made Annabeth black, a lot of the changes they made came off as micro aggressions but especially her relationship with Luke. It's reduced to Luke simping for Annabeth behind her back and it's even worse because you can visibly see how large their age gap is. Heck, Charlie Bushnell and Leah Jeffries have a smaller age gap than book Luke and Annabeth.
Adultification is a huge real life issue. Children of colour and especially female children of colour are seen as less innocent than their white counterparts. Rick, who is dedicated to inclusivity should've known better than to include these illegal relationships. Stans will try and make excuses but it's there, deal with it.
As a black teenage girl who has been a fan of Rick's work for 12 years, I am disappointed.

hating on or condemning simon because he "cheated" has always felt like just such a clear misread of the situation to me. i'm not gonna say he didn't fuck up but he also didn't ..cheat. if isabelle could date multiple people at once why couldn't he? he was just matching the energy isabelle brought to the table. and honestly i think it was his right to do so, maybe not with maia, but no one told him that was a rule.
and as he noticed things were getting more serious he did have instincts knocking at his heart telling him he needed to break it off with one of them. he just put it off too long. the reason we're given for this is that he didnt want to hurt either of them, and while i'm sure that's true, i don't think that's the whole story. because lbr by cofa the choice was clear. but that choice would also be an admittance that he wants isabelle more than she wants him. and he's been through that before. he's been the guy always prioritzing someone who has other priorities. and he can't be that again.
when everything does come to a head, both girls do get upset, but maia forgives him so much faster than isabelle does. and i think it's izzy's reaction that a lot of people base their perception of this situation on. but the thing is.. simon didn't know about izzy's cheating-based trauma. or that what he did would get mixed up in that. and ik i've said this before but her reaction also had a hell of a lot to do with anger at herself for letting simon have that kind of affect on her, rather than the simple facts of his actions. she went into self-preservation mode.
i just don't think the severity of his misdemeanor can be measured by the black and white metric of dating two people = cheating and cheating = unforgivable. even if it cut izzy deeper than expected.
#and tbh i think izzy needed to be hurt to realize it was worth it but thats another conversation#and ik i already diacussed the merit of this plot in a rb on main but this is less meta and more about simon antis lol#simon lewis#isabelle lightwood#sizzy#tmi#the mortal instruments#tsc#the shadowhunter chronicles#maia roberts

What if Louis/Armand in AMC IWTV is meant to be torture... for Lestat?
Basically... what if the whole relationship between Louis and Armand, going back to when Armand first encountered him, is a deliberate "fuck you" to Lestat by Armand, and that is his chief motive for having the relationship at all? For keeping Louis in a gilded prison, for making Louis his love at all, for allowing the interview, and for little things like telling Lestat that Louis was injured, but not telling him where or how to help or passing on the "I love you" to Louis, and perhaps effectively keeping Louis away from Lestat ever since in a game of keep-away, as the most effective way to torture Lestat that Armand has in his possession.
I want to preface this theory by saying it's probably a bridge too far. That's a lot of premeditated malice to ascribe to Armand. I do think there was and is love there between Armand and Louis as seen in the show.
But at the same time... this might surprise some show watchers, but book Armand is an ancient creature of malice who uses his boyish looks to appear soft and gentle when he is anything but. He's over 500 years old and he spent 200 of those years running the Paris Children of Darkness, a Satanic organization that gave his life meaning and purpose during those years.
And even with show Armand, we've seen him capable of playing the long game, pretending to be someone else in Season 1 as he played Fake Rashid, with motives for doing so that are still inscrutable.
We've already seen as of ep 2.6 that Lestat broke up Armand's Paris Coven, the Children of Darkness. But I want to get into why Armand might have been lying about how he was fine with it, that he saw it coming for years, that Lestat was just the instrument of his own desire to move on from that squalid situation.
What if he wasn't fine with it? What if he still isn't fine with it? What if the long game, ever since, is to take everything away from Lestat that Armand can get his hands on, including Claudia, but especially Louis?
Well, to give my evidence for this I'll have to delve into the books a bit, so proceed at your own risk for spoilers.
Here's an excerpt from The Vampire Lestat, with Armand speaking to Lestat after the events in Paris, when he forced Lestat to testify in the trial against Louis and Claudia, because it was always Armand's plan to put Claudia on trial so he could get rid of her and have Louis for himself. For Louis to be buried alive in punishment so that Armand could save him and they could depart together:
"[Armand] leaned forward, and his face transformed itself as it had done years and years ago, as if his rage were melting it from within.
“You, who destroyed all of us, you who took everything. Whatever made you think that I would help you!” He came closer, the face all but collapsed upon itself. “You who put us on the lurid posters in the boulevard du Temple, you who made us the subject of cheap stories and drawing room talk!” ...
...“We had our Eden under that ancient cemetery,” he hissed. “We had our faith and our purpose. And it was you who drove us out of it with a flaming sword. What do we have now! Answer me! Nothing but the love of each other and what can that mean to creatures like us!”"
Armand plays the long game. Armand is a creature of spite and malice, at least through Lestat's eyes in his own autobiography.
Armand was not fine with the Paris Coven being dispelled. He was not fine with Lestat's generosity or the new purpose given to him by Lestat by establishing the Theatre des Vampires. He loathed it.
And after this above exchange with Lestat, Armand picked up Lestat and flew him up high above Paris and dropped him. Armand did that to Lestat in the books, it wasn't Lestat to Louis (though that could simply be a change for the show, or perhaps even reinvented as a deliberate act of revenge on Louis' behalf for what Lestat did to him, and not some sort of mind alteration by Armand but... we'll see.)
It would be a hell of a twist to end the season on. Arguably, a twist akin to the reveal of Rashid-is-actually-Armand at the end of the first season. That this has all, all of it, since the 1940s been one long revenge play against Lestat.
Again, I think it's probably a bridge too far, too cartoonishly evil, but...man, there is that but lingering in my mind. Because this is the sort of thing Armand would do. He's done it before in the books with the trial of Louis and Claudia being one elaborate pantomime to punish Lestat and Claudia and get Louis to himself.
And it's been bothering me ever since the reveal at the end of S1 that we're in an AU where Louis/Armand stayed together instead of breaking up right after Paris like they did in the book. And if I was writing this canon divergence AU, it would be a hell of a thing to make the pivot point be, "No, Louis and Armand didn't break up because Armand wouldn't let Louis go because all of this has been one long elaborate fuck you to Lestat for destroying the Children of Darkness and robbing Armand of the purpose he'd had in life for over 200 years." 70 years of revenge by comparison? That's nothing.
#iwtv#iwtv spoilers#iwtv meta#vampire chronicles#loumand#not exactly pro or anti loumand just speculating that there's more to it#the vampires are not nice people#and Armand is really REALLY not a nice person

Anti-Chronicles; a WIP introduction
Set between the warring states of Bronze Eden and Nod, Anti-Chronicles is a non-linear, non-chronological anthology of stories taking place in these respective lands, aiming to explore the culture, history, politics and society and how they have changed over the years. Bronze Eden is a heavily controlled theocratic state filled with forced surveillance and religious fervour, led by the Potentate Dynasty who have been ruling Eden for millennia. Nod is the neighbouring anarchist state, post-apocalyptic and is completely free of any organised government or laws, dealing with the fallout of a nuclear weapon that distorted local time and space dropped on them by Bronze Eden.
STATUS; 1st draft, lore-building.
P.O.V.; 3rd person limited, with occasional chapter-specific exceptions.
GENRES;
Fantasy
Steampunk fiction
Post-apocalyptic science fiction
THEMES;
Religion as a tool of survellience and power
The politics of monarchies vs anarchism
War's impact on citizens
Nuclear post-apocalypse
Time-travel
Human connection in spite of hardship, violence, and colonialism
POTENTIAL TRIGGER WARNINGS;
Violence
Swearing and derogatory language
Sexuality
Religion and religious trauma, specifically Catholic based
Puritanism
Disordered eating
Child abuse
Cultural homophobia, misogyny, racism, etc
Death
Ableism
Potentially more which will be outlined when relevant.
INSPIRATIONS;
Love, Death + Robots
I, Robot by Issac Asimov
Æon Flux
Dishonored (video game series)
Bayonetta (video game series)
Akira
The Real and the Unreal by Ursula Le Guin
CHARACTERS;
by nature of being non-chronological and non-linear, we have a lot of characters! some are kept to their own corner of the world, others move around. here is a short list of the more familiar faces, but there are many more you'll meet as we develop. To meet the entire cast, please refer to this post!
The Potentate Dynasty, the rulers of Bronze Eden who are said to be descended from the Empyrean Itself. Currently ruled by the aged Potentate Magnus, who has fathered six children during his reign. Living in the floating palace in the center of Bronze Eden, they keep to themselves, but their power is absolute.
The Imperators are the divine soldiers of Bronze Eden, also with a link to the Empyrean who are trained from a young age to be the protectors of the Temple and of the Potenates and priests who live within.
Sal Soloman and Ed Edwards are two scientists in Bronze Eden, who's meeting and relationship is both legendary and tragic.
Nod's warriors are disorganised and many, but by far the most prolific is Ucalegon, a native of Old Rhapsody. She works with her own agenda in mind, but nontheless has Nod's best interests in mind... for the most part.
Lady Jezebel is a radio presenter, activist and DJ who's voice has become synonymous with the Land of Nod. She is a pillar of Nod culture and beliefs, hugely influential though nobody knows her face or who she is outside of her radio work. If you want to know of the latest news or listen to the blossoming music scene, her radio is who you tune in to.
Vítor Cadogan is a resident of Golden Glimpse, one of the cities in Nod. Known for running a youth center, he was once a vigilante detective who sought to fight the crime that grew in the golden city's underbelly. He's had a change of heart and has dedicated the remainder of his life to supporting the youths of Golden Glimpse, but many hold his crimefighting past against him.
Other names you'll want to remember are Saccade, Helene, Ive, Cerebellum, Hendrix, the Praeceptor family, and Niles Clarke.
Please feel free to ask in the replies, my inbox or my dm's if you would like to be added to the tag list. This means being tagged in snippets, character profiles, lore dumps and graphics, and anything else related in a major way! I will not tag you in ask games, picrew chains and the like, as I wouldn't consider these notable to the actual tangible lore. You can ask to be removed at any time.

fire nation stans need to understand that every other nation is better for the simple fact that the fire nation wanted to colonize them and committed 3 separate genocides (the air nomads, southern waterbenders, and dragons) as well as attempted to commit a 4th with the earth kingdom
so the novels giving us more information on their imperialism and lack of progressive thinking predating the war isn’t an attack on your favorite characters or ships. it’s just reflective of what a colonial country would look and function like prior to total disaster. please start using your critical thinking and research what the fire nation was based on before talking stupid
“this is just another attempt at making the air nomads seem better than the fire nation” no. the air nomads were their victims and were simply able to see the flaws in their government and certain ways of thinking. were the air nomads perfect themselves? no. we’ve seen from the other novels that airbenders themselves could be flawed and sometimes struggled against their own philosophy (we even see this in aang’s arc)
“this is an attack on zuko/zutara” no it isn’t. not everything is about him or your ship

Confession:
"Labelle should NOT be running an empire. This annoying ass SLAVER didn't lift a finger to convince people that he has what it takes to be a worthy emperor. The same goes with Paulina honestly. Augusta is the only one who's qualified, but I just couldn't care less about her. I'd rather choose Darea and even Rix's goddamn cat over these three.
Also the fact that Labelle called Afiy a "former slave" and then slapped him in one of my playthroughs just fueled my hatred for this classist bastard. If there was a choice to push him down the stairs, I'd gladly take it."
