The only reason we think that slavery was considered “okay” back then is bc stories back then were mostly written by wealthy upper class men, who were one of the few ppl who were literate at the time. If slaves were able to read and write back then we’d get a very different perspective.
Just look at how enslaved women are portrayed in the Iliad, mourning and loving their captors and abusers, when anyone in that situation would feel relieved, even celebrate if it didn’t mean being given to new owners.

Do I like this character because they are themselves or do I like them because they're related to Hyacinthus?
No, really. I've been asking myself this question these days because all of my "favorite Greek mythology characters" list consisted of people related to Hyacinthus in way or another. Clio the Muse his mother, Amyclas and Diomede his mortal parents, his many siblings, Helen and Menelaus because Helen is a descendant of Hyacinthus. Apollo and Polyboea are better because I can imagine them separately from Hyacinthus.
I'm kinda feeling guilty because these characters deserved love as their own people, not because they're related to my Favorite GuyTM :'<

Before anyone asks Helen and Thetis aren't an option because I have other plans for them.
My goal is to explore multiple points of views within the book to show. I'm not sure how many I will end up choosing. I'm having a hard time deciding so I thought I would open up the decision to you guys.
The list for Trojan women or Trojan allies will be posted later.

Weird thought: after the failed embassy in book 9 of the Iliad, Achilles and Patroclus lay down next to each other and have sex with two different women, Diomede and Iphis respectively. The narrator mentions that Iphis was given to Patroclus by Achilles.
Seems weird, even in the context of Homer whose heroes did not have the same idea of privacy as we do. Aside from being pretty gay, I keep wondering if it was some kind of power play by Achilles? Patroclus is in a tent Achilles lets him sleep in, with a woman given to him by Achilles, and whatever status he has at Phthia and at Troy was given to him by Achilles (although Patroclus is so well-liked him being banished might get pushback and he could probably find somewhere else to go-he’s a good fighter and Homer notes his closest friends were other commanders). This is probably the moment in time where Patroclus is closest to being upset with Achilles and maybe Achilles senses he is hurting for his fellow Greeks in a way he is not.

...Then Diomed prayed, saying, "Hear me, daughter of aegis-bearing Jove, unweariable, if ever you loved my father well and stood by him in the thick of a fight, do the like now by me; grant me to come within a spear's throw of that man and kill him. He has been too quick for me and has wounded me; and now he is boasting that I shall not see the light of the sun much longer."
