OMG I can't belive that out of all the Sonic spin off media (not conting the Tailstube and the Sonic Channel fanarts) only Fleetway and the OVA came close to be a faithfull ADAPTATION OF THE GAMES (The third would be the Shonugan -the one with Nicky for it's Sonic CD adaptation but it's meh)

Every single one has looked down at the Games and did SOMETHING DIFERENT out of spite (Sonic prime, Archie and now the movies) or just Scrap the history and did something new (Sonic Satam and Sonic Underground, AOSTH too)

Only Fleetway had adapted the Games (the classic Games and Sonic adventure 1 but they would have done Sonic adventure 2 if the imprints didn't happen) while Yeah some stuff changed, the characters are adapted to the history they were telling (Mostly Amy, you could compare Fleetway Amy with IDW Amy and the only thing different aside of the designs is how they express their Crush/love for Sonic, otherwise they're the same)

But at least they adapted the Games instead of bitching about not getting a copy of the Game they had to adapt (looking at you Penders ò_ó) or never have played the Games (glaring at Ian flynn and Evan Stanley) instead they have the characters Act like chess pieces to fit what they want.

Ugh at least we have the Games as wonderfull as they are 🥹

Once the threat is over (this case when Fleetway Super Sonic had his powers stolen) Sonic lets them go since they're incapable of hurting him or his Friends ever again or...

Also this Sonic feels that he has the responsability to keep the world safe since he 'created' Robotnik (ejem The ROCC incident)

Okay interesting detail I just noticed.

Surge is green, the same color as Sonic's eyes.

Kit is blue/teal, the same color as Tails's eyes.

Dunno if that's on purpose but it's interesting.

So I think that if Starline had created an anti-Knuckles, they should be purple, like Knuckles's eyes.

Poorly conceived drama is dragged out for ultimately nothing (Sonic's sudden principles). A table scrap at the end is expected to make up for everything beforehand. Sonic is still OoC. Game characters are still constantly shown up.

Game characters are still constantly shown up.

Game characters are still constantly shown up.

But Sonic VS Eggman is routine. Okay, sure.

COMPARATION BETWEEN PROLOGUES:

Fleetway Sonic the comic VS Sonic IDW.

Sonic IDW:

— Requires previous knowlege about the Games, otherwise you don't Know Who Eggman is until you meet tinker or keep going.

— Idk where this story IS: Mobius or Earth? or something new?(This may something a New comer would ask)

—Sonic the yapper

— Sonic is well Know for defeat Eggman over and over again (ignoring that Sonic fought other Villians aside of Eggman)

Anti Sonic idw critics are now saying the trauma Cream and Tails went trough the zombat saga in Idw is just as bad as people drawing Cream, Tails and other minors in nsfw fanart lmao. Your thoughts?

Look, there are many, many problems I have with the Metal Sonic idw arc, Tails and Cream suffering isn't one of them. (In fact, I think the page where Gemerl is comforting Cream when she's turning, is very well done and effective. One of the few scenes I like from the arc) but just in general I think that argument is also just beyond wrong.

In anime, movie, books you find stories of children going trough despair, or side child characters dying. (That one Doremi episode always makes me cry)

it's meant to invoke an emotional reaction from the reader/viewer. You want to see these characters overcome their osbtacles, get saved or in case of friends dying, you want them to process grief. They develop, they grow, they earn their happy ending. It's story telling 101.

When an artist draw these characters in sexually suggestive or erotic art, it's not meant to tell a story it's just meant to be consumed to get off. (And yes erotica can have stories but we all know certain dont google 18+ fanart of these characters for good stories)

The characters dont learn or overcome anything, there just there to be objectified. And While I myself am a fan of erotica, I'm not comfortable with erotic art involving minors. (Duh) Not going on a moral debate with that. I find it disgusting. Comparing that to putting fictional characters in peril is just...???? Offcourse there is a set of storytelling where writers just make characters suffer so much to the point it just comes of as a fetish. (Looking at you MagicalGirlSite) but the metal virus arc is not a fucking example of that.

I personally think these arguments are just made up to try to paint Ian flynn as being just as bad as those kind of artist, so it feels more morally justified to hate the guy? It just reminds me when Lily Orchard and Ez p try to paint Rebecca Sugar as a creep/abusive because of her work on Steven Universe. (Rebecca made these characters suffer, she must support abuse bs) so I dont think people actually believe that, its just them being obtuse on purpose.

SonElise doesn't need to make Sonic ooc for it to work in 06. You can make the ooc argument for Sonadow in some cases tbh (like in some fanfics and Prime), but at least it's not infuriating like Sonamy is.

But yeah, it would feel like regression for Amy a bit if she just got what she wanted after being so entitled about Sonic's love and chasing him, and acting like a spoiled brat at times in the past (even getting physically violent). It would be similar energy to someone throwing a tantrum until they get what they want.

It would also be ooc for Sonic. Yes he can like someone, but he won't ever truly settle down or be in a committed relationship. He's canonically single and likely to stay that way. Sonamy is marketed heavily, but it's because it's a popular ship. In actual canon Sonic is single and Amy's girlfriend status is self proclaimed

It's clear Sonic and Amy have different ideas of romance, and that Amy desires a certain amount of commitment from him that she just won't ever get from an in character Sonic.

Also recent attempts of idw's shipbait with sonamy have just felt super ooc. Sonic isn't one to casually accept hugs, especially from Amy. Amy makes Sonic uncomfortable. Sonic is nervous by her displays of affection and her glomping him. This has been shown time after time in the games. It's a sudden dynamic change that came out of nowhere and is just there for shipteasing and nothing else.

It would be one thing if how Amy acted in the past was acknowledged and she grew from it, and Sonic grew to be more accepting of her affection, but it just... happened. It feels cheap, like SEGA just wants to completely change Amy's character and her dynamic with Sonic out of the blue.

Probably poking the bear by making another IDW Sonic post, but my timeline has been filled with this panel all day and I have something to say.

I think people complaining about Lanolin getting hate are missing the point.

Like, this is what she did to defend someone who was ultimately guilty of what they were accused of.

The readers have context, they know she’s in the wrong, I don’t understand how you could spin this behavior into being likable.

No, just because “this revelation devastated her” doesn’t excuse how her actions hurt others. This isn't about her. This isn't about her feelings. Everything isn't just A-OK because she "feels bad" or whatever, this is about the feelings of her victims.

If they made a commentary on this like Bojack Horseman does, I’d probably like it, but it has been played completely straight for over a year now. While we don't know how this plays out yet, this comic has proven it isn't something smarter.

If I had to take a guess as to how this will pan out, probably something along the lines of Lanolin making a short apology that's moreso "I don't deserve to be team leader" where everyone tells her it's fine and has to build her back up rather than hold her accountable for the damage she did. That's what I expect out of this comic. Writers prove me wrong challenge.
