First Z06 Modified Corvette for Racing
Tumblr media
Every proper sports car needs its performance variant. Duntov and his engineering team were eager to make good on their design improvements to the Corvette by giving would-be racers a race-ready performance version. Thus, the RPO (Regular Production Option) Z06 was born. Modifications included a 36.5-gallon gas tank (over the standard 20–gallon tank), a sport tuned suspension with bigger springs, shocks, and anti-roll bars, plus the top-of-the-line fuel-injected 327 V8 good for 360 horsepower. The power drum brakes on the car were also upgraded with a dual master cylinder, vacuum brake boost, and better cooling. Just 199 Z06 Corvettes were built before GM’s self-imposed moratorium on racing, which made the first Z06 a one-year-only affair.

August 9th 1989 Plateau d'Albion, some 6,700m above the base. Time: 12:00
Final checks were being made. The BMD crews sat and waited. Squad Leaders went over the plans in one final detail. Outside the IL-76s, MiG-31s covered the force as they finally snaked their way though the Alps. The 76th Guards Airborne Division had trained months for this operation, their pilots and their troops talents being worth it more here than any future invasion of Iceland.
French ICBMs were being prepared for launch, and this could not be allowed to happen while the Soviet Army was clearing out Germany for their final drive to the Dutch-Belgian Border. With the French army bloodied yet standing, the Dutch-German corps still standing and the US Air Force still fighting- this was the time for bold plans.
For the 152nd Infantry Division, this day was another routine exercise. EBR Armored Car drove around on recon missions and garrison duty. French Commandos walked about the perimeter and regular troops did their best to pass another boring day. However, one of the more peculiar things popped up on early warning radar. A single dot. Then another, and another- before long the blob was sighted and the base went to short alert- then full alert as the first IL-76s crested in.
Crotale SAMs fired, their systems being jammed but some missiles still hit targets.
Time now, 12:08- the countdown began.
"Green light, go go go go!" Shouted the jumpmaster, dragging the first paras out of the plane. Anti-air bursts met the first man as he fell assisted. BMD-2s and 3s followed on their rocket assisted parachutes.
A flash message was thrown to Paris, the Soviets were in France. ---------
The reply came quick, "what do you mean" which was answered as the Base Commandant informed his bosses back in Paris he had BMD-2s and -3s sniffing out his recon on a head long charge to the perimeter of his base. He wanted the launch codes, and they told him he would get them soon.
The first BMD-2s and -3s broke the outer fence. Time 12:13. Desants poured out as the French Commandos opened fire with rifles and rifle grenades.
Two BMDs blew up, three others continued the charge- infantry in step assaulting towards the base. The French Platoon Leader yelled to his men falling back into the outer doorway-
"Twenty minutes, twenty minutes is all the time we have to hold them back for."
The Soviets knew this too. He was getting into his command BTR as he checked his watch.
"12:18! Get fucking moving! Double time!"
It was 12:20 when the Soviets got to the door. 12:22 when the RPO blasted the French troops defending it. 12:25 when the second set of VDV Sappers had to be brought up and fight their way closer to the command room.
12:26, the codes were passed to the Commandant
12:27- when the blast doors opened
and as the twenty minutes homed in- the first S3 missile launched from the base, as the VDV broke into the command room.
It ascended rapidly, outpacing everything minus the screams over the radio about a successful launch of one missile.
It target was unknown, but it was likely somewhere in Central Germany. It may have ruined the conventional war- had the MiG-31 on CAP not spotted it and burned its engines out insuring the missile was damaged beyond proper detonation.
The Gunfight at the Albion Plateau likely ended World War Three. Everyone had understood the scale of what happened, and just how close it was to ending the planet.
The VDV unit was trapped but as an offer- still was a good chip for peace terms, and most of NATO could accept knowing they forced the Soviets to the table first. Just with more strength than hoped for.

AL-QASSAM BRIGADES INTRODUCE RUSSIAN-MADE SHMEL ROCKET TO THE GAZA BATTLEFIELD
The Mujahideen fighters of the al-Qassam Brigades introduced a new Russian-made portable rocket in use on the battlefield in Gaza against Israeli Occupation Forces invading the Strip.
Al-Qassam fighters used for the first time the Russian-made RPO-A anti-fortification shell, commonly known as "Schmel", using it to target an Israeli Special Forces unit stationed in a house in Jibalia.
The RPO-A has a range of 950-meters (3'116ft) with an effective range of 300-meters (984ft).
In addition to the RPO-A rocket, al-Qassam Brigades also announced the targeting of two Israeli helicopters using SA-18 surface-to-air missiles. One in the Saftawi area north of Gaza City, with the second east of Jabalia Refugee Camp.
In addition to the targeting of Israeli vehicles, al-Qassam also mentioned that its fighters engaged with IOF soldiers in the Saftawi neighborhood for six consecutive hours over the previous night.
Al-Qassam said its fighters engaged Israeli Forces using Shawaz anti-tank explosives, along with the domestically-produced Yassin 105mm rocket and TGB anti-fortification shells.
According to the fighters, Occupation Forces were forced to call in a helicopter to cover their retreat from the position.
Al-Qassam also released footage of its fighters destroying Occupation vehicles and soldiers in the al-Shujaiya neighborhood, east of Gaza City.

I'd like to post just today an example of why I think Mao shouldn't be viewed as a Marxist-Leninist, but instead as a Great Bourgeois Anti-Fascist revolutionary, as I'd just like to share my view.
"Here I would like to touch on the question of the independence of factories under centralized leadership. It’s not right, I’m afraid, to Here I would like to touch on the question of the independence of factories under centralized leadership. It’s not right, I’m afraid, to place everything in the hands of the central or the provincial and municipal authorities without leaving the factories any power of their own, any room for independent action, any benefits....[5] ...our attention should now be focused on how to enlarge the powers of the local authorities to some extent, give them greater independence and let them do more, all on the premise that the unified leadership of the central authorities is to be strengthened....We must not follow the example of the Soviet Union [under Stalin] in concentrating everything in the hands of the central authorities, shackling the local authorities and denying them the right to independent action.[6] In short, centralization must be enforced where it is possible and necessary, otherwise it should not be imposed at all. The provinces and municipalities, prefectures and counties, districts and townships should all enjoy their proper independence and rights and should fight for them."[7] -Mao https://www.marxists.org/history/erol/ncm-7/rpo-china.htm The original work is: Mao Tse-tung. “On the Ten Major Relationships,” Selected Works of Mao Tse-tung. HR Services for Financial Firms: Building a Strong Workforce for a Dynamic Industry
HR services are crucial today in a fast-paced and competitive financial sector for sustaining a talented, engaged, and compliant workforce. Highly regulated and complex environments play host to the financial firms, presenting them with distinctive challenges over talent acquisition, employee retention, compliance, and organizational culture.
These services will assist financial companies in countering some of these challenges by optimizing workforce management, ensuring compliance with the industry regulation, and fostering a high-performance culture. This blog focuses attention to very important HR services that financial institutions need to succeed in the marketplace and stay competitive while remaining ahead of their games.
Salahkaar Consultants offers these services in many global markets. Visit their website at http://www.salahkaarconsultants.com and contact them to see if they can help your company as well.
1. Talent Acquisition and Recruitment
The financial industry is quite demanding in terms of professional competencies, ranging from financial analysts to risk managers, investment bankers, and compliance experts. The field is highly competitive since the standard of competition continually raises the bar.
HR Services Solution:
Specialized Recruitment: Financial companies will highly benefit from an HR service specializing in recruitment of finance professionals. Such HR providers are most likely to have deeper knowledge about the industry and will, therefore, source candidates holding skills and various certifications, for instance, Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or Financial Risk Manager (FRM).
Employer Branding: Building an employer brand becomes essential in such a competitive marketplace. HR services would help financial organizations build and market a strong employer brand to attract and retain top talent through various career growth opportunities, company culture, and benefits to potential employees.
RPO: The recruitment process will most likely be outsourced to save time and resources for large financial institutions. All steps, ranging from candidate sourcing up to interviewing and onboarding, can be maintained by HR services to ensure seamlessness while leaving firms focused on core business functions.
2. Employee Training and Development
The financial industry has to innovate constantly in the light of new regulations, technologies, and market trends that enter the scene regularly. Hence, financial firms must continually invest in the ongoing training and development of employees to stay competitively ahead in the constant flux.
Regulatory Compliance Training. The same can be prepared and offered by HR service providers, such as financial regulations, which include anti-money laundering (AML), Know Your Customer (KYC), and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). A large industry is the financial industry, where the fine for non-compliance is heavy and there is also brand reputation damage.
Leadership Development Programs: HR services can develop leadership development programs which can instill the future talent for leading financial firms. It is more of the building strategy, decision making, and team management skills of the leaders.
Technology and Fintech Training: Fintech will disrupt sectors, so professional training for new technologies such as blockchain, AI, and data analytics will be offered by HR services, which will keep the employees up-to-date with the changes in the financial service landscape.
3. Performance Management and Retention
Financial services firms are especially concerned about retaining the best talent because top performers tend to get poached by competitors. On the other hand, effective performance management and retention strategies have a direct role in ensuring that employees remain motivated, engaged, and committed to the company.
HR Services Solution:
Performance Appraisal System and Human Resource Services: Systematic performance appraisal systems under HR services will provide regular feedback to the employee. Such systems help identify areas for improvement, establish goals, and recognize high-performing employees who contribute to enhanced productivity and satisfaction.
Incentive and Rewards programs: Nowadays, it is a trend that financial firms have developed incentive-based compensation models or bonuses and commissions. Possible under HR services is designing an incentive program for firms that is in line with the realization of the firm's goal for compensating fairly with regard to contributions.
Employee Engagement Surveys: Human resource services for some organizations will conduct employee engagement surveys to help understand how happy the employees are within the organization. The outcome of such surveys reveals the areas with probable concerns and strategies for a better culture in the working environment. Engaged employees are most likely to stay with the company and perform at a high level.
4. Compliance and Risk Management
The most important thing for financial institutions, in this respect, is to be compliant to the regulatory requirements. HR plays an important role for assurance that every employee is in compliance with them, and the firm is being protected from all risks of non-compliance, frauds, and unethical practices.
Salahkaar Consultants offers these services in many global markets. Visit their website at http://www.salahkaarconsultants.com and contact them to see if they can help your company as well.
HR Services Solution:
Conduct Compliance Audits: HR services might perform regular compliance audits to ensure that policies and procedures of the firm comply with appropriate and updated industry standards and regulations. This will include reviewing employee classifications and wage practices as well as reviewing the workplace safety protocols.
Risk Management Training: Risks facing financial firms relate to operational, reputational, and legal risks. HR services might deliver risk management training to the employees, and the priority is knowing potential risks and mitigating responses.
Whistleblower Policies: Human Resource services would help financial institutions develop and implement whistleblower policies that enable employees to report unethical practices or any breach of compliance without fear of retaliation, keeping the workplace open and honest.
5. Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives
Diversity and inclusion in the financial industry is emerging as an essential issue, as firms realize that there is value in having a diverse workforce. In many ways, indeed, a more diversified workforce will bring diverse perspectives, promote innovation, and potentially enhance the decision-making process.
HR Services Solution:
Diversity Recruitment Strategies: The HR services ought to be able to assist the financial firms in developing the different recruitment strategies that were primarily aimed at attracting candidates from diverse backgrounds. Such would include offering partnership with minority organizations, conducting job fairs targeted at diversity and promotion of inclusive hiring practices.
Inclusion Training Programs: HR services will offer training programmes that educate workers on unconscious bias, cultural sensitivity, and inclusive leadership. Training programs help to create a culture at work by being less biased, thereby giving every employee a sense of belonging.
Mentorship and Sponsorship Programs: The human resource services can design mentorship programs in which junior employees are paired with higher-level leaders. These services can target the mentoring efforts toward underrepresented groups. The creating of an inclusive environment within financial firms may further be enhanced through active sponsorship programs where higher-level leaders take an active interest in using their power to advance the careers of diverse employees.
6. Compensation and Benefits Management
Any company that competes in the financial services sector for top talent should provide competitive compensation and benefit packages. Financial firms must create packages that are not only competitively compensating but also competitive with respect to industry benchmarked standards and employee expectations.
HR Services Solution:
Thus, compensation benchmarking studies will help HR services ensure that financial firms provide industry competitive salaries and benefits. This will attract top talent to the firm and reduce the risk of losing employees to other firms.
Benefits Administration: HR services can administer benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and wellness initiatives. Outsourcing of benefits administration to HR services ensures regulatory compliance with rules and regulations and alleviates administrative burdens of the firm.
Executive Compensation Consulting: Financial firms will have often relatively quite complicated structures in the compensation of their senior executives. HR services will be able to provide consulting on executive compensation, including bonuses, stock options, and long-term incentive plans. They will ensure that these are compatible with the overall strategy and governance of the firm.
7. HR Technology Solutions
Technology is changing HR practices across industries, including financial services, by streamlining processes, enhancing improved decision-making, and generally improving the employee experience.
HR Services Solution:
HR Information Systems: HR services will implement HRIS applications that hold all the employee's data in a central location, automate payroll processing, and expedite performance management. This will call for less administrative work and increase the accuracy level.
Self-Service Portal: Through self-service portals, employees will automatically gain access to all HR-related activities without contacting the department. As such, updating personal details, uploading pay slips, and requesting days off will require minimal involvement of the people in the HR department.
Data Analytics for Workforce Planning: HR services can use data analytics to help determine workforce trends, employee performance, and retention rate data. Financial firms can then be informed in their decision making about workforce planning and strategy through the use of such data.
Conclusion
HR services play an important role in a financial firm's success when providing customized solutions for recruitment, compliance, performance management, and engagement of employees. Financial firms, through correct implementation of HR strategies, can create a strong and dynamic workforce, which is better geared to overcome the challenges in the rapidly changing industry. They may then have greater time and attention to invest in their core business objectives while making sure that at both ends, employees face the problem and are motivated enough to make the company succeed.

When it comes to saber-rattling, few countries employ it as much as Russia does. During their ongoing invasion and occupation of Ukraine, the country’s leadership has repeatedly threatened to use atomic weapons. But the threats don’t stop there. A private company called Slingshot Aerospace says Russia has maneuvered one of their Luch satellites uncomfortably close to Western spacecraft in GEO (geostationary orbit.) And it’s not the first time. The satellite in question is named Luch (Olymp) 2 and its Norad ID is 55841. Russia launched it in March of 2023, and it’s a successor to Luch (Olymp) Norad ID 40258. The naming conventions are a little confusing, but Luch 1 was a well-known interloper. Russia launched it in 2014 and maneuvered it close to other nations’ satellites on different occasions. American company Intelsat was not happy when the Luch came within 10 km of their space vehicles. They reached out for an explanation, but Russia remained tight-lipped about the maneuver. Now Luch (Olymp) 2 is following in its predecessor’s footsteps. Slingshot Aerospace is a start-up that uses algorithms and AI to track satellites. In early September their detection algorithms revealed that the satellite had inititated a new maneuver. The Russian satellite performed numerous approaches to other satellites, and by October 5th it had slowed considerably and appeared to be ‘parking’ within 60 km of another satellite. Slingshot’s Global Sensor Network verified the detection, and also projected close approaches to another satellite at ~16 km. Slingshot’s algorithms detected two close approaches to other satellites by Luch (Olymp) 2. Image Credit: Slingshot Aerospace. What does Russia say about this? Not much. But a look at past behaviour gives a good indication of Russia’s saber-rattling and brinkmanship behaviour. In 2020, two Russian satellites named Kosmos-2542 and Kosmos-2543 maneuvered close to KH-11, a US military surveillance satellite. That was in January, and six months later in July, Kosmos-2543 fired a projectile. The projectile wasn’t aimed at a satellite, it was fired into outer space. But it caught everyone’s attention. In November of 2021, Russia tested an anti-Satellite (ASAT) weapon on one of its own satellites. That generated dangerous debris and thousands of what satellite experts call conjunctions. Space awareness company COMSPOC predicted that the number of potentially dangerous conjunctions from the debris peaked at 4,000 per day. This image shows the Kosmos-1408 satellite before and after an impact from a Russian anti-satellite test on 15 November, 2021. Image: Numerica Corporation In January 2023, another Russian satellite, Kosmos 2499, broke up and generated a cloud of debris. That satellite was mysterious, and likely experimental. But because of its powered maneuvers, there was speculation that it could be an anti-satellite weapon. So Russia routinely maneuvers their RPO (Rendezvous and Proximity Operations) or inspector satellites close to US satellites and others. And some of their satellites carry weapons. And they’re not afraid to make it risky for everyone with clouds of debris. This is classic brinkmanship, and the US and others are taking note. “This test is further proof of Russia’s hypocritical advocacy of outer space arms control proposals designed to restrict the capabilities of the United States while clearly having no intention of halting their counterspace weapons programs,” Gen. John W. ‘Jay’ Raymond, U.S. Space Force Chief of Space Operations, after the Russian ASAT test. “The United States is ready and committed to deterring aggression and defending the Nation, our allies and U.S. interests from hostile acts in space.” In 2019, India tested their own ASAT missile. They successfully destroyed one of their own satellites, and they faced criticism for the test and the hazardous debris cloud. Image Credit: By Ministry of Defence (GODL-India), GODL-India, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=77601080 Could a satellite-on-satellite war in Earth orbit meet anyone’s objectives? Debris clouds from destroyed satellites pose an equal threat to all satellites, even an aggressor’s. But the threat itself accomplishes something. Aerospace Corporation’s Center for Space Policy and Strategy released a paper three years ago that delves into the issue of a war in Earth orbit. They laid out four objectives for orbital posturing and conflict: Deceive an enemy so that they react in ways that hurt their interests. Disrupt, deny, or degrade an enemy’s ability to use a space capability, either temporarily or permanently. Destroy completely a space-based capability. Deter or defend against a counter-attacking adversary, either in space or on Earth. In that framework, Russia’s actions are rational. Putin does all kinds of things just to provoke reactions and test his adversaries. He fancies himself a powerful, unpredictable warlord in possession of deep strategic thinking skills. But really he’s just doing what we expect him to do. Russia is just one of four countries known to be developing anti-satellite weapons that can be fired from the surface or the air. The others are the USA, China, and India. We can expect more incursions, aggressive maneuvers, and even ASAT tests as time goes on. How To Protect Servers Against Malware
Tumblr media
Malware and security software are in a constant conflict. Both sides are always changing, getting better, and developing new strategies. You can defend your web server against the most frequent malware attacks by taking a few simple measures. For the protection of both you and your clients, it is crucial that you, as a system administrator, keep your server up and running securely. Below are the best tips to protect against malware.
1 Only Use Trusted Antivirus and Malware Software
Nowadays, few individuals use computers, smartphones, or tablets without antivirus and malware detection software According to a research, only 27% of Windows machines were unprotected in 2017. But not all of those people use a reputable or well-known supplier.
Norton, Kaspersky, Comodo, AVG, Avast, and Webroot antivirus programmes all have a long history of being reliable and good at identifying security risks despite costing slightly more than self-described "free antivirus" programmes.
On the internet, you may download free antivirus software, but do you really want to trust your computer to just any software? Furthermore, a lot of completely free antivirus software is itself a Potentially Unwanted Program (" PUP") and includes spyware during installation.
When compared to the potentially harmful cryptojacking or hijacking that could take place on your own devices, purchasing high-quality antivirus software is a little investment to pay.
2. Update & patch your OS and software.
The worldwide mayhem caused by the WannaCry ransomware in May 2017 is believed to have cost $4 billion. The notorious ransomware took advantage of a flaw in Windows' implementation of the SMB protocol. Microsoft, though, had already addressed the issue in March 2017. The affected systems were vulnerable to WannaCry because they failed to timely update their Windows operating system.
In other words, WannaCry would not have been able to infect and encrypt the data if they had upgraded their Windows OS.
The WannaCry ransomware outbreak serves as the ideal illustration of the importance of timely OS and application updates and how failing to do so leaves your business-critical systems open to ransomware attacks.
3. Install antivirus and ransomware protection software's.
The primary line of security against ransomware and cyberattacks is anti-virus software. Your system automatically detects, removes, and quarantines harmful software based on the software you've chosen before it encrypts your data. This makes these data security programmes a necessary component of each storage system for mission-critical corporate data.
However, it goes without saying that it is not a good idea to rely only on anti-virus and anti-ransomware software. Data protection software is unable to keep up with ransomware's constant evolution and complexity.
4. Install backup and disaster recovery systems (DR).
In order to stop ransomware attacks, one of the most important things to do is to set up automated air-gapped backups, immutable storage, snapshots, and disaster recovery.
After eradicating the ransomware from the compromised systems, you can quickly perform restoration operations and lower recovery time objectives (RTOs) and recovery point objectives (RPOs) with backup and disaster recovery (DR).
5. Employ Browser Common Sense.
There are common sense rules that automatically keep you safe from street crime, such as never walking alone at night, staying in well-lit locations, etc. The same self-preservation rules also apply when using the internet.
Steer clear of websites that host pirated content, especially torrent sites like The Pirate Bay. These locations are rife with malware. Never open an email attachment from a sender you do not know since it can be a phishing hoax.
Here are some pointers:
Even if the file was supplied to you by relatives or friends, scan it before downloading.
Before clicking a shortened link, hover your mouse over it to see the URL it will take you to. This is especially important if the link is in an email from someone you don't know or recognize.
The most recent figures show that there are more than 18 million malicious websites on the internet. You should report infected websites to your antivirus provider in addition to leaving them right away because they raise certain evident warning signs.
Second, always check to see if the website you visit has an SSL certificate. Search for the secured icon to the left of the URL to confirm this (the web address). Take action to stop the entire page from loading when a browser, like Chrome, alerts you that a website is not safe.
In the data centres of cheap web hosting companies, which can host thousands of websites on a single shared server with little to no quality control, malicious websites are frequently hosted. Because of this, it is far better to take precautions than to try to erase the harm that has already been done when it comes to internet safety.
6. Stay Up-to-Date on the Latest Attacks.
Malware is frequently modified and added by cybercriminals. Malvertising is one type of malware, for instance.
Remove any software you no longer use in addition to keeping your operating system and all of your programmes updated. You become vulnerable to assaults when using outdated programmes because they don't have patches (updates/fixes).
7. Configure Regular Scans and Monitor Settings.
Each and every person needs antivirus software. Most people would undoubtedly agree that they need antivirus software if you asked them. And yet, a recent Webroot research found that almost half of all Americans have no antivirus protection at all.
A hacker exposed private patient information at the Erie County Medical Center in New York in 2017, costing the facility millions of dollars. Their computer system was ultimately offline for a total of six weeks due to the hackers. All the screens went dark, rendering them helpless to take any action. To restore access to their own equipment, they ultimately had to pay the hackers more than $44,000 in Bitcoin.
And the reason why none of this could have been prevented was that they lacked antivirus software. Although it is meant to operate in the background, you must still handle it directly. To make sure the programme is functioning properly, it is a good idea to set up automatic scans to run once every few days or once per week.
Avoid performing scans while using your computer if you see that it significantly reduces the performance of your PC. For most people, it makes sense to choose a late hour, for instance.
Last but not least, you need to make sure that the system is not off and that it can not enter sleep mode or hibernation in order for the scan to run.

So, I'm just curious as to why you hate RPO? I read it ages ago and liked it enough (but don't get me started on the film, that was a trainwreck of a shit bucket) anyways, you really seems to diskike the book, and I'm just wondering why...
film was purely average. i might watch it if it’s on but not like, out of choice, and i’ll still firmly hate wade watts, the most intolerable man on earth.
the reasons are many tbh, though i haven’t read the book in a while so i’m going from previous posts and this seething hate that still sits in my body. this isn’t all of it, really, but i think you get my point lmao:
the first chapter has a nerd trivia contest in which one guy messes up a comic book fact and literally lowered his head in shame while the audience cheered
making me read the words twinked out wannabe gunter uberdork
in ready player one he makes it clear he doesn’t think transgender women are women, and then in ready player two has aggressively backpeddled and yet is still a dumbass and wrote (and got past the editors) the phrase nonbinary sex
ernest cline wrote the cringiest fucking poem about porn. like this shit wouldn’t even get a grade in my degree. the teacher would tell him he did bad and to write a new poem.
incredibly info-dumpy
the 70s references are so overdone that it’s clear the author’s just jerking off to his own intelligence
actual interesting lore keeps getting ruined by the author’s shit narrative
the Masturbation Paragraphs
that time wade watts removed all the hair from his body for no valid reason whatsoever
he said it was so he could spend less time in the shower so he could game more but how does shaving off your eyebrows actually save you time in the shower and ALSO he says he showers everyday anyway so what was the fucking point of resembling an egg i hate this novel so much
samantha has absolutely no reason to be attracted to him in the slightest
samantha’s biggest problem was that she had a birthmark on her face so she believed she wasn’t beautiful
and that meant the moment someone (wade) called her hot, she melted into his arms because no one else has ever loved her and her birthmark
the movie’s trials were actually better than the book’s but that’s because different shit works for different mediums
conveniently having vital passcodes for 6 months without telling the reader (and without having the passcodes change)
lbr this was the author shitting himself and realising he needed a loophole to his problem and decided to get fucking lazy
continues his laziness into the sequel
at one point in rpt he describes a character just as a “young arnold schwarzenegger” and that’s it like fuck dude learn to WRITE
ernest cline and his novels (even his armada book got panned btw) are a direct response to white men trying to take science fiction for themselves - and succeeding! - ever since the 70s. the big bang theory is also a response to that. his book perhaps fit that culture in 2011 (despite being terrible), but considering his sequel follows the exact same themes in the year 2020, despite the 2015/16 hugo awards wars about white men controlling this genre, IT DOESN’T FIT. he hasn’t learned. he’s tried to aggressively show lgbtqia support because he got panned so hard for it last time, and it comes off forced and tacky and like he doesn’t actually care

I'm sorry but... is it wrong that I hope Ready Player One the movie will be something genuinely good out of the sloppy source material? Going by the trailers it actually looks well directed and... decent.
I have just watched the trailers (why) and…how can I put this nicely, yes, it is wrong.
Don’t get me wrong, the visuals are nice. It’s Spielberg. They were going to be. The dialogue while, marginally an improvement on the book…is still tin-eared and cliche-riddled. It’s also pretty wooden. If they wanted to salvage something, they shouldn’t have let Cline be a co-writer on the script. It’s some of the worst dialogue I’ve ever heard in a trailer, including the bad one for Rogue One where a number of clips were shockingly not found in the film itself (which is pretty good). The acting is also…mediocre, but dialogue that bad is very difficult to salvage.
The thing is, the best you can get out of RPO is a decent popcorn movie. I very much doubt that it is going to hit those heights. That’s if it eliminates the book’s transphobia and all of its problematic attitude towards women (which judging by some mildly disturbing poetry is shared by its author)  Some of that is still going to most likely get through. Even if it didn’t, I also very much do not want someone whose stated reason for why his very by-the numbers genre novel is different (not RPO, but a follow up) is literally ‘because it has pop-culture references’. No, no, god no. Unfortunately it’s probably too late for that. A sequel novel has already been mentioned, and if this does well, it’s going to spawn imitators and influence elsewhere. Venerating everything wrong with geek culture leads nowhere good. Nostalgia alone is not culture, it is anti-culture, and nostalgia is the point of this film - it otherwise doesn’t do anything interesting, and even its own marketing team knows it judging by the posters.
None of that is worth the tradeoff for an okay popcorn movie.

Tumblr media
Anyway stop sending ‘is this a krp’ to groups that obviously aren’t krps, use your eyes, and maybe read a few pages.  Just because a group has mascots that aren’t your typical white faces, or has a decent amount of idol faceclaims, doesn’t mean it’s a krp. And it’s kinda gross and sterotypical that some people (not everyone) assume a group that has more than like 5 idol faces in it, must be a krp. Like no Susan, people of colour exist in the world as more than just the odd token character, stop being gross and assuming they don’t without it only being dedicated to that.
Thanks for coming to my ted talk.

You know sometimes I fucking hate Tumblr and the internet in general because apparently no one is willing to let me enjoy and find content of something I love that a lot of people didn't without scrolling through miles of hate and having my mood ruined.

Say what you want about Ready Player One, the best part is that it premiered on Easter Weekend and the plot revolves around finding an Easter Egg.

So I was expecting the Ready Player One movie to be disappointing more or less from the get go. And now that information about it is starting to trickle out, while I’m not certain that it’s gonna suck, I’m at least seeing warning flags.
So this first look talks about the cast of characters, and while I know I should take it with a grain of salt, one thing really perturbs me.
When listing Wade’s “Allies” and their respective actors, it lists 2 (Art3mis and Aech) that I remembered, and 1 that I didn’t: I-R0k. The name rang a bell, but I assumed it was a minor character that had ascended. A brief bit of googling revealed that it was Wade’s bully that kinda fucked up the plot by blackmailing him.
And notably, Daito and Shoto weren’t listed.
They’re turning Wade’s high school bully into a main character and just....leaving the asian characters out.
I’m not going to pretend that Daito and Shoto were great representation, they were basically walking cliches. But what the actual fuck is this bullshit?
Also the actor they’re casting as I-R0k is a standup comedian who has made (and profited off of, via selling merch) transphobic jokes. So I’m not exactly optimistic.
