So..... they're re-releasing the Attack on Titan finale as a theatrical event in Japan.
Tumblr media
So, with that in mind.....
Who else here did not even bother with the anime finale after reading the manga conclusion? Who else agrees it was a trainwreck regardless of which version you go by?
And who else is proud to say they won't even waste their time putting this overblown mess on?
I have said it before and I'll say it again. I've never seen anything go so big and feel so empty when it was all over. Literally no payoff to any of this. Who else happily opted out?
-------------------------------------------------
And just as an aside, Gabi you're still an unwanted skank. And Eren.....worst shonen protagonist ever.
And oh yeah....Eremika was never a couple worth rooting for. So stop mourning for it if you still are.

Providing a deep analysis of all Studio Ghibli films would be an extensive undertaking, considering the studio's rich and diverse catalog. However, I can highlight key themes and elements that are often present in their films.
1. **Spirited Away (2001):** Explores identity, environmentalism, and the spirit world. The bathhouse setting is a metaphor for societal structures.
2. **My Neighbor Totoro (1988):** Focuses on the innocence of childhood, the connection to nature, and the acceptance of mystery.
3. **Princess Mononoke (1997):** Tackles environmentalism, the clash between industrialization and nature, and the complexity of human relationships with the environment.
4. **Howl's Moving Castle (2004):** Examines themes of war, love, and transformation, set against a backdrop of magical realism.
5. **Grave of the Fireflies (1988):** A powerful anti-war film exploring the impact of conflict on two siblings during World War II.
6. **Kiki's Delivery Service (1989):** Focuses on self-discovery, independence, and the challenges of growing up.
7. **The Wind Rises (2013):** Tells the story of an aeronautical engineer against the backdrop of historical events, reflecting on creativity, passion, and the moral implications of invention.
8. **Porco Rosso (1992):** Explores themes of identity, war, and redemption through the tale of a World War I flying ace transformed into a pig.
9. **Castle in the Sky (1986):** Features an adventurous tale with themes of environmentalism and the consequences of human greed.
10. **Whisper of the Heart (1995):** Focuses on adolescence, dreams, and self-discovery, emphasizing the importance of pursuing one's passions.
These brief insights into a selection of Studio Ghibli films highlight their exploration of diverse themes, including environmentalism, identity, and the human connection with nature. Each film is a unique artistic expression that often combines fantasy with deep, thought-provoking narratives.

I would love to hear about the Flanderisation of Ghibli movies if you're willing to revisit the topic for someone who wasn't in the stream. The term is something I only just learned about recently and I'm really curious how it applied to Ghibli.
Only if you want to, though! I hope the stream was fun for you and everyone else.
Ah I was talking about a tumblr post speaking about this specific thing. How people in the internet really like to emphasise Ghibli movies as
"Oh cottagecore vibes! So cozy!"
And I had someone in my chat ask "are all Ghibli movies just cozy? Because I want to watch them but I need something with a little more teeth." And I had to assure them that aside from Ponyo, Kiki and MAYBE Totoro, Ghibli movies are NOT just cozy cottagecore feel good films and do actually have a LOT of substance to them.
And I don't blame the chat member for thinking ALL Ghibli is that kind of vibe because that is the way the internet as a whole have flanderised the Ghibli movies. Because a LOT of the Ghibli films deal with topics that are not cozy comfort films. Almost every Ghibli film has anti-war messaging, or a plea for nature conservation, or in some way or another a balance getting thrown off that needs correcting.
Sometimes a Ghibli movie is about the friction of different ideologies with no villain or bad guy, like Mononoke. Sometimes it's about responsibilities regarding the long term damage of war and the destruction of the environment like Nausicaa. Sometimes it's about post-war trauma and being anti-fascist like Porco Rosso. Sometimes it's about preserving nature in the face of progress like Pom Poko. Sometimes it's about overcoming the fear of new environments and experiences like Spirited Away. Sometimes it's about losing your passion for something when you make your passion your job like Kiki.
Tumblr media
But the internet doesn't like focusing on those parts of Ghibli movies. They want to focus on the soft, comfortable, easily digestible parts of the Ghibli films. Which is why I am convinced Ponyo is probably one of the most popular Ghibli films in the US. You know. The one Ghibli made for toddlers.
Tumblr media
Or Howl's Moving Castle which I don't consider to be a good movie. But even Howl's Moving castle has anti-war themes in it. It just takes a very big back-seat to the plot around Sophie. But even that is not what people focus on when they talk about it. The main focus most people have on Howl's Moving Castle is the "romance" between Howl and Sophie which is about as style over substance as you can get. I'm so sorry but it is.
Tumblr media
If you look up "Ghibli" on most social media sites you're gonna get a LOT of results, but none of them are going to focus on the actual substance of the films or what they are inherently about at their core. Which is most often humanity and life affirming even or especially in the face of cruelty. Or it will be about the disregard of nature. Not so much from an conservationist perspective, but simply from a perspective of the lack of reverence society currently has of nature.
Tumblr media
[Mononoke-hime Theater Program, July 1997]
But all of this substance has been lost when people talk about Ghibli movies in the public space in favour of The aesthetic.
To the point where I have people in my chat asking me if Ghibli HAS any substance to it. Or if they really are just nothing but comfort cozy cottagecore films.

Road Rage & Malibu Barbie
Pairing: Street Racer!Eren x Reader
Synopsis: You may look like a Barbie doll who got lost on her way back to her dreamhouse but Eren never fails to break your front quite often than you like
Warning: alcohol use, illegal street racing, language
Word Count: 2292
Tumblr media
He is just so full of shit, isn’t he?
Eren Fucking Jaeger.  He thinks just because he won every race he’s been in, he’s the fucking king of every fucking thing.
Your teeth gnashed, crushing the cola lollipop to tiny pieces until the stick flattened between your molars.
Cheers deafen your ears, even rising above the already booming drop of the music played by the DJ.  The crowd, all dressed in neon and various shades of black, one with a tacky cheetah print, gathers to Eren’s dodge challenger.  Oh, how you’d love to scratch the beautiful matte black paint or smash the glowing crimson lights.
On the other hand, your eyes dart to your batchmates, Porco and Reiner in their Camaro and Corvette.  You think Porco’s is smoking a little.  The two of them decided it was a good idea to challenge Eren.
Your brows meet as you click your tongue in annoyance.  They’ve given Paradis University a free pass to drag Marley Institute of Higher Learning’s name through the mud.
A loud honk got your attention, it’s the resident idiots of Paradis U, Conner and Sarah, you think their name was.  They got barrels of alcohol on their pick-up truck.  And just as quickly as the crowd gathered to Eren after his victory, they now crowded the truck for the cheap booze.
“Hey.”
You smile as you feel Annie hop on the stacked tires next to you.
“Hay back.”  You say lazily as you take a sip on your Malibu fizzy pink lemonade, leaving a print of glossy and glittery lip mark on the can.
Annie takes a swig on something stronger and her eyes scan you.  Your stooped posture and your pink wedges creating swirls on the gravel, even your oversized sunglasses is slipping from your hair.
“Problem?”  Annie asks with a sigh.
Your hair flips in the force of you straightening your back just to face her.  Her hand is already waiting to catch your sunglasses that flew right off.
“Did you see his face?”
“Whose face?”  Annie asks calmly.
“Jaeger.”  You say as if the name is leaving a bad taste in your mouth.
Annie glances behind you then nods once.  “What about him?”
“Did you see the way he looked down on us?  He is simply unbelievable.”
Annie hums and you wait for her to continue.
The crowd is going crazy for the discount beer that Paradis U brought.
There was also the revving of engines from a distance.
And loud chattering.
“That’s it? ‘Hmm’?”  You ask impatiently, putting your fists on your hips as an added effect.
Annie just shrugs.  “I don’t know if he was like ‘looking down’ on us.”  She rolls her eyes.  “That’s just how he looks at everybody.”
You scrunch your nose cutely.  “As if!  He was totally feeling all high and mighty after that win.”  You stomp your chunky heel, sending a few pebbles away, you wished it was sand from the beach instead.  Pieck did invite you to that bonfire party their sorority is hosting.  “I bet I could take him on.”  You collapse on your palm, elbow resting on your knee as you trace the tiny flower patterns on your pink babydoll dress.
“Wanna bet on it?”  Says a deep voice right next to your ear, making your hair stand on end.
You leap off the stacked tires in surprise, your drink spilling on your hand.
There in all his glory, stood Eren Jaeger.
You glare up at him, refusing to look at his compression shirt clad chest and dark washed jeans because by God, you know he will never let you forget about it if you do.
He’s been trying to get you to talk to him since the first night you met and to your luck, Reiner and Porco are not with you at the moment as the two of them were your usual anti-Eren protection squad.
“Annie, let’s go grab something to eat?”  You turn to Annie sharply with a stiff smile.
Annie yawns and raises a hand as a nonverbal ‘pass’ and she just leaves you there.  With him.
“Annie?”  You call desperately.
“It’s time you fix your issues.”
You glance at Eren who looks at you like you’re some sort of an odd entertainment.
“We don’t have issues!”  You hiss.
Annie turns to you both and walks backwards.  “Tension, then.”
Your face erupts to a blush and your mouth fails to form words.
She watches your face bubble up in anger and gives you a two fingered salute before sliding next to Armin who was trying to get his homework done in a corner.
“So.”  Eren stretches the word and you close your eyes tightly, dreading the fact that you will have to hold a conversation with him like how any regular adult should.
“Good racing out there.”  You say with a smile that doesn’t reach your eyes.
The corner of his lip rises.  “You can cut the act now, doll.”
Again, you just flash him another polite smile.  “Well, if that’s all.  I’ll be taking my leave.”
You walk in the direction of your 1959 pink Cadillac when you hear the unmistakable sound of sirens.  You don’t even process what happened next, you simply felt an arm lock around your midriff and your feet getting lifted off the ground.
“Fuck, stop STOP!”  Eren growls as you start punching him, yelling for him to put you down but he does not.
You turn to see Floch being pinned to the ground and then Annie leaving with Armin in his BMW i8.
“Jaeger!  I swear-”
“There you go!”  He unceremoniously dumps you in your convertible.
You make brief eye contact before a sound of a glass bottle shattering startles you.
“Shit!”  Eren hops to his hellcat that he not so discreetly chose to park next to your car.
You jab and twist the key in and the engine roars to life.  Your hands shake at the thought of having your parents come and bail you from jail.  And your reputation!
“Hey.”  Eren calls from the open window of his car.  “I know how to get out of here, you can come if you want but you gotta be a good girl and stick close to me, yeah?”
A cold drop of sweat drips on your temple and you hesitate for a moment but you give him a nod.
You raise your convertible’s top for a bit of covering.  You’d hate to have a picture of you end up in the news tomorrow morning, at least the plate number is a bit concealable.
“You ready, doll?”  He calls and his engine roars.  You clutch your steering wheel tight and you give him a nod.  His eyes linger on your seatbelt and after he’s sure that you got it fastened, he zooms forward.  You follow after him.  You keep a close eye on his car, careful not to bump into him.
Eren takes a sharp turn and you almost hit the break upon seeing a narrow alleyway, one wrong move and you could get stuck.  As Eren braves the escape route, you follow with much hesitation, that was until a flash of red and blue fills your car.  You gasp, hoping they won’t pursue you.
Soon enough, Eren makes it out and you see him stop a few meters away, waiting for you.
And you eventually make it out too.  Without any scratches.  Your driving instructor would be proud.
“That’s my girl!”  Eren cheers and he drives away, you follow quickly, a smile now making its way to your lips despite how your heart is pounding so hard in your chest.
You step hard on the accelerator until you are driving side by side.
You open your window and your hair whips with the wind, Eren does the same and gives you a boyish grin that you are certain was responsible for countless of panties to drop.
The thought made you feel a bit bitter and your smile deflated the tiniest bit.  Though you can’t understand why.  When the traffic light comes to sight, you slow down, despite the entire highway being empty due to it being four in the morning.
“You alright, doll?”  Eren asks in a tone you never knew he was capable of, with his brows pinched.
Again, you give him one of your practiced smiles and you nod.  Your eyes return to the road and the bright red light reflects on your eyes.
Eren doesn’t buy it, not even for a second.
“Tell you what.”  He says.  You glance at him and he points at the traffic light.  “I’ll take your challenge.”
Your eyes round in both confusion and surprise.
“When it turns green, we race to the next traffic light.”  He continues.  “Winner gets free ice cream.”
You just stare at him for what felt like a solid hour, as if waiting for him to break his act and tell you that he is just kidding, but he does not and he almost has a look of determination plastered to his eyes.
“Get ready to eat my dust.”  You smirk playfully.
Eren is unbeatable but you sure as hell are not going to back down from a challenge.
The leather of your steering wheel creaks softly under your grip and you watch the traffic light like a bird of prey.
Your cheeks bubble in anticipation when the light turns to yellow.
Eren revs his engine and you exhale softly, eyes now zeroed in the road, the traffic light becoming not dissimilar to a bell being dangled in front of a crouching cat, ready to pounce any second.

GO!
Both engines roar as Eren and you go neck and neck and you can’t even bother to glance at his direction when he whoops.
And then you hear the sudden combustion from his car.
“Gotta go, doll.”  He yells and his car speeds forward as if it was flying.  The quick blue flash from his exhaust told you that the asshole just used nitro.
You scream in frustration, quickly shifting the gear and you step on the pedal so hard that your back collides with your plushy seats.
Eren serpentines in front of you, preventing you from getting ahead.  You call him by a rather unkind name, to which he only laughs.
You try right and he is there, you try on the left and he’s there again.  Your fist slammed on your steering wheel.  You try left again and he’s already waiting for you, of course it’s obvious for you to turn right while he’s still trying to recover, but you don’t.  He, however, thought you were going to do it and he drives right hard, making you grin as he leaves you an opening.
Then there’s the really tall flyover and beyond that, the traffic light.
Only, Eren wasn’t a champion for nothing, was he?
He sparked that nitro again, complete cheating in your opinion, and he gets even.
“Coward!”  You scream at him and he laughs once more.
“A coward with a free ice cream, apparently.”  Was the last thing he said before zooming forward.
You curse him off as he slowly ascends.
Eren watches you from his rearview mirror and he shuts off his nitro, waiting for you to catch up to him.  But to his surprise, you drifted to the side, vanishing from view, almost knocking down a few traffic cones.
His brows scrunch up.
Where could you be-
Were you planning to counterflow and cut through the road?
You little sneak.
Eren grins as the familiar fire of competition fuels his veins.  He shifted his gear stick and he stepped on it.  His engine roars and he slowly reaches the top, going now for the descent but he hits the break, making his tires screech.  The sun was slowly trying to break through the clouds now.  A wide smile is on his lips when he sees the familiar glint of your pink Cadillac and he steps on the accelerator.
His engine sounded like a monster chasing you, making you frantically speed up.  He’s coming.  He’s right behind you.  He’s…He’s…He’s lost the race!
You were a meter ahead of him!
The scream of victory you gave disappeared behind the roar of your engine.
You haphazardly got out of your car and was glad to see that Eren was too.
His movements were sluggish but there was a small smile on his lips.  You were really hoping he’d be more disappointed.
You grin at him, twisting and bouncing at where you stand.
He watches you with that same stupid smile and nods.  “Congratulations.  We didn’t have an audience but you can have the bragging rights.”
But his eyebrow cocks up in amusement when you giggle.  “Silly, I don’t want any bragging rights.  I just want an ice cream from that 24/7 café a few blocks away.”
Now, he just looks confused.  “Wait, really?”
You walk back to your car.  “Uhuh!  Plus, I totally saw you stalling there.”  You smile at him behind your shoulder.  “You lost on purpose.”
His cheeks flushed the tiniest bit but his lazy eyes scan you up and down.  “And you’re still making me buy you ice cream?”
You get inside your car and slam the door shut.  You drape an arm by the window and you shrug.  “A win’s a win, right?”
He considers for a moment, trying to see how far he could take this, and in a split second, he decides.
“Race you there.”  He grins and hops in his car.  “Loser gives the winner a kiss.”
He laughs as he drives away, leaving you struggling to chase after him.
“Unfuckingfair!”
He’s winning this one for sure, no matter what.

I know people love pokkojean as a concept, but they’re really nothing alike especially post-Trost Jean who grew past his 12-year-old self. I would argue as far as crackships go Porco and Floch are more alike in a himbo impulsive kinda way. Plus the idea of Porco who is basically anti nationalist vs a patriotic Floch is so funny. Hello?? It's a crime that people are not seeing this vision more. That said, back to Jean and a Galliard brother: I want people to see the vision that is serujean (Marcel x Jean).
Here’s my argument: 1. Feiner (fake Reiner) is basically a Marcel larper. If you headcanon Jean being impressed by Feiner, imagine how awestruck Jean would be if he met the real Marcel. 2. Jean hates that Eren puts Mikasa and Armin in danger just by being reckless, knowing they’ll follow him no matter what. Now picture Jean finding what Marcel did to protect Porco from being a titan shifter.
3. Jean and many others admired Feiner for his reliability and leadership during training but Marcel, being the real inspiration behind Feiner’s whole vibe, would hit Jean even harder.
Conclusion: Marcel would inspire Jean to be his best self, and Jean would admire the hell out of him for it. Embrace crackships. Go wild or go home. If you read until the end, I’m sorry for wasting your time, it’s been a hard day. This is nonsense. 💖

[theory] Five Year War
tldr: in alternative timeline Mid-East War was 5 years long, instead of 4.
Tumblr media
Illustration by Hajime Isayama for 3rd anniversary of Hita's museum opening.
As you can see, it is an alternative timeline where Reiner and Berthold decided to join forces of Paradis (+Marco is alive). As for the reasons... this theory is not about why Reiner joined Paradis, but I will point out some foreshadowing.
Tumblr media
chapter 108 - nice foreshadowing: Porco is looking down on Reiner, and calls him traitor.
Tumblr media
chapter 46 - foreshadowing of Reiner becoming a soldier.
Tumblr media
chapters 15 and 96 - obvious contradiction; in different timelines Reiner had different experience.
Tumblr media
chapters 3, 17 and 97 - obvious contradiction in Reiner's behavior.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
chapters 40, 47, 89 and 95 - obvious contradiction; but I'm not sure how it impacted Reiner's personality; I didn't find any clues that could explain his different behavior shown in chapter 15. Also, Ymir has consistent devil ears in 40, 47 and 89, but in 95 she has normal ears.
Tumblr media
chapters 16, 39 and 96 - obvious contradiction; one wants to go home (which has nothing left), another wants to be a true warrior.
Tumblr media
chapter 94 and 95 contain contradictions about:
Reiner being smart.
Reiner is not smart.
Reiner being admitted because of his loyalty during the test.
Reiner being admitted because he was licking captain's boots.
Reiner truly believing in Marleyan propaganda (inner thoughts).
Porco reprimanding Reiner for being loyal Marleyan dog.
Porco being surprised that Reiner is being loyal Marleyan dog.
Reiner talking about some ideological checkup before major operation, which we never saw him encounter beforehand.
Tumblr media
chapter 93 - Porco mentions the moment, when contradiction starts.
Tumblr media
chapter 81 - Reiner somehow knows that Levi is dangerous, even though he never ever saw him in action; chapter 97 - we have no explanation to how Reiner was able to go through ODM check-up; chapter 132 - Reiner somehow worries about Hange, even though yesterday is the first time he ever met her (aside from being captured in Shiganshina and being blindfolded) (and Pieck doesn't care one bit).
Alright, enough with Reiner acting different. Let's talk about the war!
NOTE: after later discovering more clues, I concluded that 5 year war happens not because of Reiner's betrayal, but to completely more ridiculous reasons which sound completely far-fetched, but, hey, evidence is evidence. Just treat clues pointing to "Reiner's betrayal" and "5 year war" as two distinct things. If Reiner betrays, then whole story will go into much more interesting direction, rather than just being 5 year war. But I left this theory as it is, cause laziness and some of reasoning is still applicable to the timeline, where Reiner betrays. My current conclusion: 1. Reiner not betray; 4 year war timeline; attack in 1 month 2. Reiner not betray; 5 year war timeline; attack in 1 month; Restorationists still exist; Zeke was recruited by Ksaver & Kruger (ch137 shows his connection to Kruger) and told him about 100 year old plans; only Grisha & Dina were disposed; Pieck might also be an actual Restorationist 3. Reiner betray; unknown year war timeline (maybe 5 years, but doesn't really matter); very probable that extracting Zeke was done around 5 months after Willy's speech
Tumblr media
chapter 108 - 4 year war, 4 years ago Anti-Marleyan Volunteers
If you are not aware, Isayama is constantly switching back and forth between multiple timelines in his story and trying to present it like it was all a single timeline. It is very easy to spot in artistic choices by WIT. In another cases, you will have to look for contradictions in dialogue. I suggest you read u/Ellen_Yevner theories if you want to be convinced about constant switch of narratives.
Besides u/Ellen_Yevner posts, I also provide a somewhat comprehensive evidence (that is related to this post) for timeline switches below in the section about 109th corps.
So, in essence: every single panel of manga and every single cut of anime can be a completely different timeline. The above image (ch108) is another example of that.
First panel shows Reiner and says that Zeke planned raid on Marley for four years.
Third panel doesn't show Reiner, and says that Zeke snuck Anti-Marleyan Volunteers four years ago.
Tumblr media
chapter 90 - waited through winter
Of course it makes absolutely no sense! It was clearly shown in the story, that after battle for Shiganshina, Paradis waited through winter, before they went to explore the southern port, where Marley turned Eldians into Titans. And Paradis came into contact with Anti-Marleyan Volunteers by ambushing them on the sea.
In my opinion, no matter which timeline it is, the earliest Paradis could have met Anti-Marleyan Volunteers is one year after battle for Shiganshina (because they have to clean up the Titans first).
With above assumption in mind, and with the hint from Isayama about Reiner and Berthold joining Paradis, we can conclude that there exists an alternative timeline, where Mid-East War was fought for five years. I will refer to it as Timeline 5; and 4 year war is Timeline 4.
Because Reiner & Freckled Ymir didn't return to Marley, Marley would only have Zeke and Pieck. That will surely restrict them in their war efforts, and they would be much more cautious, which would prolong the war for one more year.
Tumblr media
chapter 93 - Zeke has 1 year left; ships started missing 3 years ago; first ship was sent in "851年".
In Timeline 5 Zeke would have 0 years left, by the way.
Tumblr media
chapter 113 - 109th corps
I understand, that training corps are going outside of training grounds for other activities, and their presence in Shiganshina does not mean that they are about to graduate. But we don't actually need to assume for how long 109th corps have been studying.
While it is not explicitly stated in the story, there is an obscure dialogue that happen in chapter 18: instructors score trainees, and this scoring plays a major role on their final result. It was even said that Marco wouldn't get into MPs with an attitude like that (hold it, that's another theory). And after that they talked about the upcoming hypothetical attack on Trost, the same one which 109th corps are participating (Shiganshina). I don't think it is a ridiculous statement to make: scoring in any organisation (school/college/etc) is done in the last year.
Now I will talk about OAD#2 "A Sudden Visitor", which depicts that hypothetical attack on Trost.
But before that, I need to establish some basics about "years."
Tumblr media
I will talk about 854 first. Let's assume Mikasa did not want anyone to know that it is Eren's grave (that's why his name is absent). Then what was the point of specifying the "date of death"? To whom is the date written, if nobody knows whose gravestone this is?
I ask you: what people write on tombstones? Some passing words to the person, name of the person, date of birth, date of death. Sasha's tombstone was like that (but it did not use Arabic numbers). So, the correct form would be to leave everything as it is, but to remove 854: "here forever, rest peacefully, my most beloved, my dear". I hope I'm making myself clear that Mikasa refers to Eren as "854", as in 854th version of Eren.
When Eren is crying about "Mikasa finding another man", he means finding another Eren. "10 years at least" -> Eren & Mikasa know each other for 10 years. When he says "none of them wanted to die either", he means none of previous versions of Eren wanted to die either ("I don't want to die").
In manga there are panels of "844", "845", "847", "850" that are not presented as years, but more of something that actually exists in the story (like a person, or an object). They are not dialogue bubbles, but are inside of manga panels. Logically, they should relate to loops or whatever.
Tumblr media
But in anime they only ever used this terminology once very inconspicuously in ED#3 (845). Every other time in anime they would use "845年", which usually translates as "Year 845", but can also be translated as "845th". I've asked native Japanese, and it was confirmed that it is valid translation.
There is not a single time that ANY character EVER mentioned years in absolutes. Like, you'd think that Karl Fritz escaping to Paradis and threatening the entire world with the Rumbling would be referred as an actual historic date. Yet even that event is only referenced as "around 100 years ago".
^^ Except that one time in Lost Girls Manga by Annie.
^^ And in chapter 70 volume preview. But it's not like volume previews are super important part of the story tbh. In Colossal Edition they are removed when bundled, only the last one is left (ex: edition 1 contains volumes 1 to 5; previews for 2-5 are removed, and preview for 6 is left as is). TODO omnibus (I think it was the same).
Any type of "fake previews" or "School Castes" are left as is, so it means they should be canonical, and not some gag feature of tankobon and Bessatsu.
This "year" terminology would signify that something historically major happened around 850 years ago to start a calendar. Yet when Grisha's father and Ksaver were narrating history 600, 1200 and 1800 years ago, nothing like 800 ever popped up.
Tumblr media
Guidebook "Inside" lists chronology of manga events. Events are not referred by any specific year, but only relative to each other, and they put "(850)" etc alongside it. Here you can read the English version. Anime guidebook lists events as "years."
My current theory is that "845" is a loop, and "845年" is an actual year. But not always. It depends on which timeline it is. Both terminologies are canon in both mediums. The "year" terminology is only used to identify which subset of timelines we are observing (the ones, which had something major happen around 850 years ago). The ones which didn't, obviously, don't use "year" terminology altogether. My theory is based on Eldia vs World (2000 years) against Eldia vs Marley (100 year) conflict. I know, sounds crazy that for 1900 years nothing changed too much that all the main cast were born either way (as in same parents had sex with one another). But it is what it is. Complain to Isayama for creating something so illogical 😉
So, what I'm trying to say, is that if you see "Year 849" and "Year 850", it doesn't mean that one happened earlier than the other. Story is still switching timelines, and a lot of events happened completely different. This whole post about "5 year war" and "Reiner's personality" are just two events.
I've legitimately spotted like 50+ of those events. If we are talking about individual panels, then... not downplaying it, it's in several thousands. I can talk on and on about almost every single page of the manga (it's not a hyperbole). I'd like to list all the things I know. But, as you know, 139 chapters, 89 episodes, all supplementary material as manga, novels and guides... and all this theorizing work not paying the bills 😢
Don't restrict your view to only what you know. Only look at what you see right now. This statement will be demonstrated below:
(this is still not complete, but I'm too lazy for it; maybe one day I'll add more points)
(I chose points that relate either to OAD#2 or in/directly to Reiner; although, there are still a ton of other clues in mentioned episodes and chapters)
01x03 02:48 Keith says that they are "in for a 3 years of hell." "They probably lived through hell 2 years ago."
01x16 public disclosure further confirms 3 years of training.
Eren & Mikasa killed bandits at 9 years old in "844" and "844年".
chapter 15 Eren says that he and Armin stayed at settlement till they were 12 years old.
chapter 16 Eren assumes (not confirmed by recipient in the same panel) that Berthold & Reiner spent 2 years of settlement work before enlisting.
chapter 16 Berthold says that government is forcing every 12 year old to enlist because of the fall of Wall Maria. Then Berthold says that he chose to be a soldier. Then Berthold says that he has no will of his own. kekw.
chapter 16 Berthold says that they were in Wall Maria. Then he says that they escaped to Wall Sina... somehow.
chapter 95 Reiner says that he was 12 years old when he left to Paradis, and came back "middle-aged man" (whatever you understand by middle-aged, 21-22 year old boyo... allegedly).
01x03 Berthold says that majority of them are here because they don't want to lose face. They are cowards, if they chose to be workers. After 12 they become trainees (as in military only accepts from 12 years old, and not enforcing). It's the same meaning as in chapter 16 "because it's the thing to do."
01x03 Berthold says that he is not different from them (previously he said that they are cowards if they chose to be workers), because he chose in hopes to get into MPs to get to Wall Sina, where it is safe. So, if you did not catch my drift, hoping to get into safe place is cowardly. What he means by "not different" (in that timeline) is that all of them are cowards who want to get into MPs and they are not reprimanded for choosing to be workers.
So the conclusion of the above: government does (not) force to join military. There does (not) exist an opportunity to join MPs.
chapter 16 & 01x03 Berthold says that if MPs doesn't work out, then they just give it all up (as in retaking the Founder or the infiltration plan, as I understood).
01x04 takes place at "850年". It immediately says that it's been 2 years after enlistment.
OAD#2 takes place at "849年". Keith says that it's been 2 years of training.
OAD#2 is named "#3.25", 01x04 starts with "850年". So OAD#2 should take place before 01x04 chronologically (for general audience).
chapter 17 states that it's been 2 years after beginning training. It depicts Eren fighting Reiner & Annie & Jean.
01x04 depicts Eren fighting Reiner & Annie & Jean. 104th graduate.
So you can already tell that anime made the entire story completely nonsensical with "year" terminology, when we compare with manga. No, even when we compare anime to anime.
Despite any episode or chapter stating that it happened in certain "year" or "loop" they still immediately begin to switch between multiple loops back and forth. So don't ever use those values as a reference.
Should you treat "845年" as "845th loop", or use my current standing theory that it refers to actual year for a subset of loops, it's up to you.
Also just noticed, 01x03 19:00 contains the most insane foreshadowing that I've ever seen this franchise ever do (because I think that even after the story continues, nobody will spot it for years). It goes together with chapter 73 really well.
So, finally, about that OAD#2 (some important points were mentioned above):
With the above points about TODO I don't even remember what i wanted to write here 😭
Connie says that it is the first time ever visiting walled city. That means that trainees never ever went to cities for training, other than for graduation (hypothetical attack). This is super important, because writers are hinting that it is supposed to be interpreted as first Trost visit, and the next one (or this was the last) will be the graduation, where Eren was cleaning cannons with Connie & Sasha & Samuel & etc. Because it is never mentioned what happens in between "hypothetical attack Trost" and "graduation Trost", from writing perspective, we should assume that nothing happened... like 2nd point below this.
I didn't read other supplementary material, so the above statement may only be true for SOME timelines (as, you know, in time travelling story you can never truly assume anything in absolutes).
This contradicts chapter 92 and 04x01 Reiner maintaining cannons on the wall alongside Eren & Berthold & Sasha & Connie (+Mikasa & Armin in anime).
Jean further confirms this being a graduation exam by being super confident about joining MPs.
Jean says that Mikasa is the only one who can outmaneuver him, even though he scored 6th, and was outmaneuvered by Connie & Sasha in 01x04.
If we were to treat OAD#2 happening before 01x04…
Then Jean gets outmaneuvered by Connie, and then he proceeds to have the same discussion as he had in manga about stealing the prey. This contradicted in 01x04 Jean gets outmaneuvered by Connie & Sasha and acts like it's the first time that someone stole prey from him.
(points below are just bonus)
Then to make it even funnier, Reiner says that it will be Jean who won't make it into MPs (hold it, that's another theory😂)
Then Armin ends up in the same room that Eren was resting after battling Annie in... Stohess? And also Pyxis walking down the same corridor that Armin was walking in 01x25 (hold it, that's another theory🤣).
And then Jean exclaims that Annie won't get into MPs if she bails out (hold it, that's another theory😭).
So it is pretty clear that 109th corps is in their final (2nd or 3rd, depending on timeline) year, thereby proving that it is indeed... 5 years since 104th graduated? yeah, right. With all these events happening at different years and with different conditions (12 years old), even I'm not sure, lol.
"Alright, but is that it? So what if they fought for five years, instead of four? What does it matter?" I hear you ask.
Well, it does matter! Because what Paradis lacks the most? Time!
Here are some examples of Isayama re-iterating the lack of time for Paradis:
Tumblr media
chapter 106
Tumblr media
chapter 107
Tumblr media
chapter 108
It also matters from strategical perspective, when it comes to The War for Paradis arc.
Tumblr media
chapter 108 - Reiner; Zeke has 1 year left; Global Alliance will attack in 6 months
What would change in Timeline 5, if Zeke has 0 years left?
Reiner proposed to attack immediately, because he didn't want to give Zeke time to prepare any plans (because he still has 1 year left).
If Zeke had 0 years left, (we have to remember, that in Timeline 5 Reiner joined Paradis) Magath decision would probably be conservative - to wait for Global Alliance to form and attack in six months.
Although, it is hard to predict. Magath may also think why Zeke even escaped to Paradis, even though he has 0 years left.
From one perspective, Paradis will only gain a mediocre Titan.
From another perspective, Magath may question why raid on Liberio (with the intention of evacuating Zeke) was done in the first place, and what are the future plans of Paradis.
Magath could conclude that they are plotting something, but it is debatable whether he will make a surprise attack. Porco won't propose anything hasty, because in chapter 95 he was described as someone who follows orders.
Tumblr media
chapter 118 - Reiner is described as the main reason, why Marley attacked so early.
Tumblr media
chapter 118 - sounds very contradicting; isn't Global Alliance not formed yet? Isn't there like still 5 months before they all come together?
So, from above images, without Reiner pushing the decision, I'd say that in Timeline 5 Marley would attack together with Global Alliance, presumably in 6 months. This gives Paradis 18 more months in total.
Oh, poor Gabi will have her uncle be another traitor 😭
Tumblr media
Some explanations about how alternative battles for Shiganshina went, because, I think, this will be when Reiner chooses to switch sides (2024-10-27):
Berthold which wanted to end it all, because of Reiner going crazy. He did not experience whining and begging for forgiveness. This one was eaten by Armin.
Berthold which always made his own choices. Berthold which wanted to see whether he will be whining and begging for forgiveness.
As I might be incorrect, and there are actually more than 2 Berthold personalities, I will just specify what I think is appropriate.
Berthold being the last one who pats his buddy on the back.
Reiner being the last one who pats his buddy on the back.
Berthold exploded during the Clash of Titans.
Berthold escaped without exploding during the Clash of Titans.
Eren had a convo with Armin about outside world.
Eren doesn't have a convo, and both of them sometimes are shaking during the fight.
Some of the above can be mixed together, for example: the one who always made choices can have an emotional breakdown and cry over killing people.
Eren fought Reiner away from the Walls, because Berthold chose to fall on Eren by himself, not waiting for Reiner's signal ("Berthold's surprise attack"). They don't know that Reiner's roar is a signal to Berthold.
Berthold waited for Reiner's signal to fall on Eren. Armin can analyze Berthold character. He said that he has no will of his own. After defeating Reiner, Armin will suggest to flush out Berthold by Eren roaring. Hange squad will survive and fight Colossus Titan with Levi squad.
Berthold can ask to be launched on his own initiative, if battle is prolonged.
Berthold waited for Reiner's signal to be launched.
Eren beat Reiner by fluke, because Reiner is not a great fighter, and Annie did not teach Eren to fight. Mikasa sliced exposed parts of Armor. Eren used chokes and joint locks, but did not come close to beating Reiner. Eren has confidence in defeating Reiner with hardened fists.
Eren beat Reiner with ease, despite Reiner being good at fighting, because Annie taught him how to fight. Hange has no confidence in Thunder Spears, because she doesn't know whether it will pierce armor... because they didn't succeed in hardening experiments (firsts as concentrated armor)? Maybe Eren didn't drink Armor bottle?
What if Mikasa sliced their heads off? They would learn of this Titan power in advance.
Thunder Spear explosion is SO strong, that you need tall buildings and good positioning not to get yourself killed (quality over quantity).
Thunder Spear explosion is not that powerful, so you can just choke up the spears (quantity over quality).
Sasha & Connie were ready to kill Reiner. Jean was the most determined, but then questioned himself why would he change his stance after advising Hange not to kill him.
Sasha & Connie were saddened by Reiner's death (Reiner big brother).
Reiner only spread his consciousness to Titan's body, which resulted in memory loss.
Reiner spread his consciousness also to Titans' brain, which retained his memories.
Zeke infiltrated alone, fearing that they will give away info about Pieck via footprints. Zeke instead obtains ODM gear in secret from Pieck.
Zeke infiltrated with Pieck. Military will find Pieck's footprints, and conclude that quadruple build should be fast, therefore it is an intelligent scout Titan. They will devise some plan to either go around this scout (Warriors will not have much time to prepare;at most 2 minutes), or to split forces before entering Shiganshina (they will be able to pincer Zeke & Pieck).
Dirk and Marlene squad engage Reiner, while recruits & Klaus squad & Levi fight Titans to protect the horses, which are bunched up in one place.
Dirk & Marlene & Klaus squad & Levi fight Titans to protect the horses, while recruits are scattering horses.
Erwin decides to halt operation to find Reiner's position, Levi does not get close to try to kill Reiner.
Erwin decides to proceed at fast pace for quick and decisive battle. Armin finds Reiner hiding in the Wall. Levi tries and fails to kill Reiner. Erwin sends Levi to protect the horses.
Erwin told a theory he and his father had when he was a trainee. Erwin has a dream to learn the truth and prove their theory. Levi orders Erwin to give up on his dream and die. Levi chooses Armin, because he has the same look in his eyes.
Erwin told his father's theory when he was a kid. Erwin sent Miche & Nanaba & Gelgar to death by fooling them (Zeke & Pieck infiltration). Erwin wants to prove his father was correct. Levi chooses Shiganshina as Erwin's resting place.
chapter 77 Marco's death: Berthold has no will, Annie taught Eren fighting, Reiner is a warrior.
Scouts stand like idiots after Reiner head was blown off.
Armin tells them that it is not over, because Levi was not able to kill Reiner by piercing his neck.
Armin stalls time. He shakes in fear, because he can't do anything.
Armin genuinely tries to negotiate with Berthold. Berthold later comments that Armin fought well all the way to the very end. Explanation: Armin would argue that Berthold told that he didn't want to kill anyone, which is a contradiction to him deciding to kill everyone. Instead of that stalling tactic by mentioning Annie. Not only that, it contradicts the entire reason for Berthold's character development from Marco's words.
Berthold (which wants to end it all) spots Reiner. Hange squad surround Berthold. Some went off to finish off Reiner.
Berthold (which makes his own choices) does not spot Reiner. Hange squad goes to finish off Reiner. Then they will engage in a battle of attrition with Colossus.
Berthold does not spot Reiner. Hange squad dies. Berthold does not know the position of squad Levi.
Berthold doesn't blow Eren's house.
Berthold blows Eren's house.
Hange's group arrived late. Hange stopped Mikasa from attacking Floch.
Hange's group arrived early. Connie & Jean said nothing against attempts to revive Armin instead of Erwin.
Reiner made a promise to Ymir to deliver a message.
Reiner & Berthold made a promise to Ymir to save Christa. This blood debt will probably be the reason that will make them switch sides.

Terminology:
Bridges- a company that was formed to reconnect the fractured society of the USA after the cataclysmic event known as the Death Stranding.
BTs- souls trapped in the land of the living that form entities known as Beached Things, or BTs, they are hostile towards living beings.
Cryptobiotes- small life forms that float around unique natural formations, they can survive any environment, no matter how harsh. They replenish a small amount of blood and increase resistance to TimeFall when eaten by humans.
Death Stranding- an event that caused the world between the afterlife and ours (purgatory) to collide with the living world, entangling life and death.
DOOMS- a condition that grants people a greater connection to the "other side", the land of the dead. People afflicted with DOOMS are called "sufferers" of the condition. Depending on the individuals level of DOOMS, sometimes they can sense BTs or even see them.
MULEs- a faction of cargo thieves suffering from "Porter syndrome", an obsession with their previous profession. They will chase others and incapacitate them in order to steal their cargo. Many have been driven mad by the environment and circumstances, but they do not kill, and are deathly afraid of BTs.
Necrosis- a stage of death that happens after cardiac arrest (the heart has stopped beating), after which the corpse will become a Beached Thing.
Porter- freelance delivery personnel who transport cargo across the continent of UCA (United Cities of America, renamed after the events of the Death Stranding).

The Beach- a limbo, or purgatory, between the world of the living and the afterlife. Everyone has their own unique Beach that is personal to them once they die.
The Seam- the place that connects the living world to the Beach, this is where souls end up, and where Repatriates can guide their souls back to their bodies.
TimeFall- otherworldly rain that accelerates time of everything it first touches and then turns into normal water again. The appearance of TimeFall, accompanied by an inverted rainbow, signal the presence of BTs.
Voidout- an explosion that is caused when the anti-matter of a BT consumes living matter (when a human body is consumed by a BT).

Short Story ~
Passion Interrupted 💕
Female Bodied Reader X Porco Galliard
You and Porco have been keeping your relationship under wraps now for a while, and after a particularly stressful day your secret is under the watchful eye of a certain sharp-minded friend...
Warnings: Smut. 18+ Only.
Tumblr media
It had been one of those days. Extremely stressful, nothing went right and to top it all off, you’d been ragingly horny all. Damn. Day.
Whether it was your body needing a nice big release of anti stress hormones or some other reason - all fucking day your pussy had been aching. It sat untouched against your panties for hours, warmth swimming through it and the cloth sticking to your wetness.
Your relief couldn’t be more blissful when you’d finally finished your paper work and bumped into your boyfriend in the hallway; grabbing him by the belt buckle without a word and pulling him towards your room.
“Hey babe, you ok - ohp. Okay then…” He happily lets you tug him by his groin, arms splayed out like a young bird about to take that first timid leap off the tree branch.
The moment your door closes behind you, you click the lock, pushing Porco against it, pressing up onto his chest and locking your lips onto his mouth. You’d craved his taste all day, that familiar tinge of coffee along with his natural palate. He’s more than happy to have you rubbing against him like a cat in heat like this, your fingers gripping his shirt tightly, your claws not allowing him to escape - not that he’d dream of it, anyway.
“mmm… What’s got you all fired up, huh?” He hums between your kisses.
“You have.” You reply clumsily pulling his tight shirt up and over his head with haste - your eyes devouring the sight of his bare chest and stomach. “I want you, Porco.”
He smirks into your mouth, those words music to his ears as his hands glide down your back and give your ass a nice firm squeeze, before using it as leverage as he picks you up, your legs wrapping around his waist; sticking to him like some heated, horny barb.
Your tongues swirl sloppily, your kisses loud as your lips smack off one another’s. You begin to grind your hips against the ridges of his abs, his sheer delight that you're so turned on right now is evident in his sly grin and naughty glint in his eye.
“I love it when you’re all fired up for me.” He breathes, his own limitations on his sanity being breached. He turns and pins you against the wall, his mouth caressing your neck as you caress his hair, the only person able to do that without him losing his temper.
You hold back your moans for reasons you both were aware of. But Porco didn’t care as much as you did.
“Mmm, you’re so pretty…” He groans into your skin.
“Sh…” You hush him softly. “Pieck is just next door.”
A groan of frustration unintentionally escapes him. “Come on babe. Don’t you think it’s about time we let everyone know?”
“Less talk. More Porco.” You hum.
He knows you well enough to understand you’re not dismissing his concerns. Just that you’ll discuss them at a better time. You’d been through this on a few occasions. Porco wanted to be open about your relationship. You weren’t so sure yet. You didn’t want it to effect your work or how your comrades would treat you. You didn’t want either of you to lose any individuality just because you were a couple.
He removes your shirt before lowering you down onto your bed, his fingers already pulling down your pants, sliding them off your legs. You gasp as his lips trail up your calf and round to your inner thigh, massaging it with his thumb along the way.
“Fuck, y/n…” He whispers with delight when he sees how wet you were. “This all for me?” He licks his lips before suctioning your clit in his warm mouth - he could clearly see you were already too far gone for you to be teased.
You bite down onto the side of your finger, holding in your loud moan with all your might as he continues to slide to fat fingers into your tight, eager cunt. Porco makes it progressively more difficult to hold in your audible enjoyment as he moans and sighs against your bloom and whips out his trademark, AAA grade Porco dirty talk.
“You like that?” His quiet voice quivers, his breathing turning into panting.
You nod. Of course you do.
“Fuck… You’re so perfect.”
He increases the pressure on your internal weak spot, his mouth returning to your clit. You marvel at the sight of his muscles under his hunched, broad back; squirming under his skin as he works you. They flex and move, his eyes snapping up into yours and that grin he pulls when your eyes meet his…
“Porco. I’m not going to last long.” You whisper. “Please, I need you to take me..."
“Are you sure?” He raises an eyebrow, now deciding he will tease you after all. “There’s no way you could be quiet once my fat dick fills you up, right to the top.”
“Yes…!” You bark, instantly hushing yourself. “I want to feel you fill me up full. Please baby…”
Without another word, he quickly removes his fingers, sitting up and using those same digits to unbuckle his belt as quick as his body would allow.
Before you knew it, he was pressed against you, lining himself up to your core; your heat pouring from you as well as your arousal.
He hides his head down near your neck as he pushes into your tight tunnel, muffling his groan of ecstasy as your breath hitches and back arches. His fat cock does indeed make it difficult not to cry out to the heavens.
“Fu~~~ck…” He groans into your ear, his hands gripping your hair.
Your insides immediately greet him in a warm welcome, tugging him in deeper and dancing around his large muscle as he slowly begins to dip himself in and out, not wanting to bang the bed or breathe too loudly with exertion.
Your eyes roll, nails digging into him for dear life as you buck your hips. God damn you’d needed this all fucking day.
You both freeze when there’s a light tapping at the door.
“y/n…?” Pieck calls.
Porco glances at you, not knowing what to do.
“y-yeah?” You croak, trying your damned hardest to sound as normal as possible.
“Can I come in?”
“uh, I’m just getting dressed!” You lie. “I can come to your room in ten?”
Porco nudges you in annoyance.
“uh, twenty?”
“Oh, it’s okay. I was just wondering if you’d filled in section A3 of that paper Zeke had given us and –”
Porco’s jaw tenses and ears buzz with the burning desire to move. To have some sort of friction of you against his cock. He lies, still fully sheathed inside of you - too turned on by your eagerness earlier for it to soften because of a mere conversation. A conversation he wasn’t even paying attention to. What made it worse, was your insides were still clenching and releasing him, trying to pull him in with anguish. His eyes clamp closed, his teeth gritting as he rocks his hips ever so slightly when you give him a warning glare.
So he stops.
Your insides spasm harder - he wasn’t even sure if you were doing this to him on purpose or not. He could see you were sharing his extreme frustration, your face flushing a deeper shade of pink and your eyes pleading for her to leave.
“You know there’s that thing Reiner wanted me to do -”
“Honestly, Pieck I won’t be long and -”
“And you know Reiner, everything has to be done in earnest because of all the -”
Porco’s head drops, the veins in his arms begining to raise to the surface of his skin, his limbs trembling from holding himself back. The frustration was beyond belief when you finally gave him the nod.
The nod of permission.
Sweet, sweet permission.
“PIECK, SHE’LL SEE YOU LATER, FUCK!” He finally booms.
“Ah-ha! I knew it!” Pieck celebrates. “My plan worked! I knew you were in there! Bon voyage, amigos. See you later!”
You didn’t even have the chance to be astounded at her genius plan, because Porco immediately returns to thrusting, a lot more viciously and rough than before, his once stifled moans now loud and booming.
You’re too blown away to make any noise of your own as the bed now slams loudly against the wall over and over again, your boyfriend’s grunts and echoing groans filling up your senses.
“Mmm, y/n! Let everyone know how good I fuck my woman!”
He’s gone feral.
You cry out, your golden end so so beautifully close.
He yanks your hair, hissing through his teeth and slurping up the drool that was threatening to escape his mouth.
“You're so beautiful, and you're mine! I… Ah.. fuck…” His usual gruff grunts morph into high pitched whines, his voice breaking as you hurtle through time and space; that orgasm you’d been waiting on all day finally crashing over your body - the tsunami of intense pleasure physically manefstied by the gush of cum that covers Porco’s cock and balls.
“y/n! Take me!” He barks, his own atomic explosion detonating and causing mass destruction within you, his scolding white liquid colliding with your cervix with force.
You fall into the void; deaf, blind and dumb as you feel your lover embrace you tightly, his chest heaving against your own. Your mind and body broken, as he peppers kisses against your cheek.
“I love you.” He breathes, becoming instantly needy. “Guess it’s not a secret now.”
“No…” You whisper, shaking your head. “I guess not.”

Thirteen Years [Porco Galliard x reader] 13
Two years ago
A muffled commotion just beyond the man finally became audible as his eyes groggily fluttered open. His vision was blurry as the trickles of blood and sweat from his brow dripped into his eyes, blinking hard to combat it but to no avail. A choked groan left his throat as he tried to sit up, but the ache in his body left him paralyzed, not being able to lift even his arm to wipe his eyes. But through the sweat and blood, he was able to see a thick steam emitting from what he only concluded was him. A steady pain coursed through his body, each breath he took hurting more than the last as his chest rose and fell.
Gently trying to move even his fingers, he was met with the realization he could move only one hand. Only one was able to feel the sandpaper like ground beneath him, the dirt stinging as it scraped open wounds - though the other couldn't feel a thing. It wasn't there. The stream that rose from him billowed from his arm, just above the elbow. His regenerative properties trying desperately to recreate new bones, muscles, tissue, and ligaments. But the exhaustion that plagued him made it difficult to do so quickly, taking hours or the rest of the day to finally be able to feel his fingers again.
Upon coming back to consciousness, a wave of nausea forced him to turn over as he heaved. Red dripping from his mouth as the only thing he was able to vomit was blood, coughing only resulting in the same. His coughing and heaving caught the attention of those around him, his fellow Warriors coming to his side realizing he had finally come to. His blurred vision recognized the familiar face of the woman whom he fought besides, silently sighing in relief. "Pieck," his voice was hoarse, and he tried to clear it, but it only caused more blood to come up.
"You're alright, Pock," she assured him softly. Her voice was a soothing contrast to what lay just beyond, "it might take you awhile to heal though. You took some pretty nasty hits."
"You got your arm, and nearly your head, blown off by anti-Titan weapons. You were the first they used it on, congratulations." The disingenuous voice made the man visibly grimace. The voice was familiar, but not one he chose to associate with willingly. "You're lucky to be alive, Galliard." Reiner's voice, although rough and forceful, held genuine consideration in his last statement.
"Aren't you too fucking kind," Porco managed to choke out his words. "I bet you're relishing in the fact I got my ass kicked instead of you." His words were harsh as he spat them towards his comrade, his voice still just as hoarse but he quickly became accustomed to it.
"You deserved a good wake up call, honestly," he retorted. Pieck glanced over at him, shaking her head as to tell him to simply stop talking - he didn't. "Your abilities only get you so far, you have no protection, yet you parade around like nothing will harm you, you're reckless and if this didn't show you that you'll end up a dead man."
A pained chuckle left his lips, coughing just after and spitting out the blood that pooled in his mouth. "You're pretty smart, I'll give you that. 'Waiting to give me a piece of that small, pea sized brain of yours while I can't do anything but listen." Although he stayed on the ground, pain surging through every cell in his body, he chuckled again. "I could say a lot about you though," through blurry eyes he glared at the man towering above him. "A little bitch of a man who never deserved what he got, and still doesn't. At least this was my one and only time I needed someone to save me, but you have countless."

Present Day
The curtains over the window in the small room gently danced and swayed from the opened window behind them, letting the sunshine peak through every so often as the fabric moved. The sunshine and humid air that blew in made the room hot, a stickiness in the air around that would cling to anything. But the outside air brought a circulation to the room, that if the window was shut wouldn't be there; the room would become a furnace, heat trapped inside with nowhere to go but rise. A thin sheet laid sprawled across the bed, tangled and messy from the night sleep that increasingly became hotter as the sun rose.
The man's blonde hair was messy and hung in his face, bits and pieces blowing in different directions as the wind hit them from the window. He sat in a wooden chair near the window, while you remained in bed still asleep and undisturbed. A cigarette hung from his lips as he put the small flame of the lighter in his hand to the end of it, putting the lighter away upon inhaling. Taking it between his index and middle finger, he moved it away from him and exhaled. The smoke dispersed quickly out of the open window, only leaving the lingering smell to remain indoors.
A stoic expression remained on the young man's face as he once again put the cigarette to his lips. His thoughts turning and flipping within his mind, the vivid images he pictured in the nightmare he had while he slept staying in the forefront on his mind. The blood and carnage he had witnessed while away was enough to haunt his dreams for the rest of his shortened life. War wasn't pretty nor exciting; it was ruthless and traumatic. Leaving him to constantly hold the imagery and memories he wished to never see again. Blowing the smoke from his mouth, his eyes shifted to outside of the window as a bell toll caught his attention and he pulled the aged fabric of the curtain to the side. Chiming nine times to signify the time of day, he let out a small sigh. He had been awake since six but hadn't gotten up until eight; he desperately tried to go back to sleep as he tossed and turned but failed.
Nightmares plagued him constantly now, sometimes getting so dreadful they haunted him in his daydreams. Waking up at all hours was a nightly occurrence, an almost routine that he would wake with skin flushed and sweaty then try to rest again. He was grateful you hadn't noticed yet, though it had only been one full night together he knew you had a keen eye and instincts that frightened him. He wanted to tell you about the nightly horrors he had to endure, but not yet. He couldn't tell you just yet out of fear you may worry even more for him. You had worried enough for now, four years too long, your mind deserved a well needed break.
His eyes flickered back over to his bed as he noticed movement, hazel eyes catching as you shifted in your sleep. Hearing you groan pulled a small smile to his lips, "good morning, dear." The disgruntled 'shut up',  he heard that followed made him chuckle softly. However, he stayed silent as his eyes focused on you. Watching as you tried to go back to sleep but gave up quickly as you felt yourself being pulled more and more from sleep. "You never were a morning person, were you?" He asked rhetorically, smoke flowing from his mouth as he spoke from the near finished cigarette.
"You always woke up so early," you retorted with yet another groan, "it's annoying." He saw your groggy eyes squint from the light that filtered through the room from the window, blinking hard as you tried to get used to it. Once they eventually did, your eyes met his as he looked at you lovingly. You stared in awe a moment as he sat in the chair before you, wearing nothing but shorts and having a clearer depiction of the man's built strength. "Holy shit-" you breathed.
The young man couldn't help but let out a small laugh and flicked the now finished cigarette out of his window, letting the last bit of smoke leave his chest through his nose. "Instead of gawking, come here," he offered his hand out to you as an invitation. He saw you hesitate, only because he knew you didn't want to leave the comfort of his bed and rolled his eyes. "Oh, get up, you know you want to," he coaxed, and to his pleasure you listened. His eyes scanned over you as your feet met with the floor, seeing you wear a shirt of his made his heart warm. Although the shirt was old and worn, small stray strings dangling from the bottom seam, he relished in your image.
"Now who's gawking?" You asked upon taking his exceeded hand and sitting in his lap. Placing a quick kiss on his lips, you smiled, "good morning, Pock." The sound of the curtain being pulled back to cover the window caught your attention; though he had no intention to do anything explicitly sexual, outsiders seeing you upon his lap by the window were none the wiser. He wanted to enjoy a blissful morning with you, one he wasn't able to have in four long years. His strong arms wrapped around you and pulled you closer to him, and you heard him let out a hum as you buried his head in the crook of your neck.
Moments passed as neither of you spoke, the serene silence being too beautiful to disturb. Your eyes flickered to him as you gently ran your fingers down his back. The scent of smoke lingered on him; the small pieces of his hair that now brushed against your cheek doused in it. The smell was one you were certainly familiar with but did not remember to be his. You felt as your fingers dragged across his skin, slowly tracing upward towards the base of his neck. The man that was once at peace suddenly sucked in his breath and jolted back. You felt your balance shift at the abrupt movement, grabbing onto him so not to fall on the floor; only to have him grab hold of your wrist tightly. His suddenness frightened you, and you looked to him for answers.
His eyes were widened and breathing ragged as he gazed at you. A certain twinkling in his eyes that you had never seen before was apparent. It was instinctual, almost primal, the way he looked at you now; although fear still swam in the depths of his hazel eyes. "Don't touch my neck." He spoke, his voice weary and uneasy. You watched as his eyes flicked to your face and then to your wrist, slowly loosening his grip as he realized what he was doing. His uneasy breaths slowed to normal, but his eyes now held an emotion of worry.
"(Y/n)-. . ." You heard his voice trail off. The feeling of his calloused hands quickly left your wrist completely as he dare not touch you. "I'm sorry, I-" he cut his sentence short as he ran his fingers through his hair in worry. "I'm so sorry."
A brief pause felt like an eternity for him as he watched you scan his features, confused and slightly frightened. He felt just as he did four years ago: sickly. He didn't wish for the feeling to return, but his stomach created knots and tightened as he waited for some kind of response. A feeling that was repressed through years of war and exhaustion, although heightened from the same. A fear that was foreign to him quickly found solace in his own body; a fear that didn't have a set origin, but revolved solely around being a weapon of war.
"I'm not going to hurt you," you reassured gently. He felt your loving touch on his cheek, the sensation alone allowed his rigid body an ounce of relief. "They made you encounter horrible things, Porco, I know. But I will never hurt you." Your features returned to those of love and adoration, rather than fear or confusion. Still, his mind lingered to the pit that formed inside. He asked himself why but only found the same answer repeatedly. Muscle memory and a need to stay alive.
"I was so scared," he whispered, almost too afraid to admit the words out loud. The great walls he had built during his time away was vast, acres and acres of stone and cement finally cracking and crumbling. Though these walls wouldn't fall in a single moment, the bits and pieces that chipped away felt relieving. "Every day I was so scared I wouldn't be able to keep my promise of staying alive," he spoke softly. "I was on edge every second I was there. I fought to stay alive, every minute of every day I fought." He remained seated, but shifted from uncomfortably of being vulnerable, "I don't know how to go back to normal again."

Back on My Bullshit: Art and Politics edition
Or, "Yet Again Ted Responds to a Post Without Tagging or Replying to the Original Author Because He's Scared of Conflict."
Had that experience again recently of running into one of those Blistering Nuclear Hot Takes that the internet is famous for. And I've learned that if my immediate, knee-jerk reaction to a statement is intensely emotional, then I definitely need to step back and take a second look, to see exactly why I'm reacting that way and whether the author has a valid point.
In this case, the take was about calling Hayao Miyazaki a fascist, in that his works express a fundamentally fascist worldview and glorify fascist politics and aesthetics. And what with me being an animation nerd and a guy who mistrusts Hot Takes about artists and their Fundamental Worldviews, this provoked an immediate response in me, which I had to grapple with for some time. The results of that grappling appear below.
(As before, I'm not tagging this with the original poster's name or responding directly to their post because this isn't really about them. It's about me gnawing on an idea until I feel like I've gnawed long enough, and not really caring what others think. So please don't reblog or tag this with anyone.)
So the most obvious way to respond to this—what I'm not proud to say was my first instinct—would be to simply post the Porco Rosso screenshot:
Tumblr media
Which, yeah, on the surface is a pretty straightforward counter. But it doesn't actually say very much, for a number of reasons. First, just because one of Miyazaki's characters expresses this view doesn't mean much; the artist is not their art. (Media Theory 101 over here, I know.) But within the context of the film it means even less: Porco isn't directly opposing fascism so much as keeping his head down and avoiding politics entirely, preferring to let other people fight their battles while he relaxes on his private island. And in this scene, you'll note that he's meeting his pal, Ferrarin, on friendly terms in a movie theater, even though Ferrarin is now a pilot for the air force under the new fascist government. So although Porco doesn't like fascism, he's comfortable enough to meet with a guy who's working for a fascist regime on friendly terms.
So forget Porco Rosso. Forget also the general content of Miyazaki's films, which are broadly anti-war, anti-imperial, anti-violence in general, etc. What is the specific evidence being offered of Miyazaki's supposed fascist views? From what I've seen, there are three main arguments: the idyllic pastoral aesthetic of his works and how it ties into settler colonialist fantasies; those works of his that directly depict (in a largely neutral-to-positive light) individuals who served under fascist governments; and statements he's made in relation to the previous that seem to show a nostalgia for and desire to return to that idyllic fantasy. Let me describe my thought process about each of these one at a time.
First, the pastoral aesthetics. Obviously Miyazaki, and Ghibli as a studio, has some distinct aesthetic elements that are so obvious and visible that "Ghibli-style" is now a thing you can say on the internet and which will instantly conjure up a vision of rolling hills, white clouds, gentle breezes, and so forth. More generally, Miyazaki has a very clear veneration of nature and humans living in harmony with the landscape that manifests across virtually all his works—think of Kiki only being able to regain her witch powers by spending time in the woods, or the family in Totoro bowing before the ancient tree in their backyard. Hell, I don't need to give examples, anybody reading this knows exactly what I'm talking about.
This aesthetic has of late been conflated with/subsumed by the "cozycore" or "cottagecore" aesthetic movement, which has itself been absorbed by the whole right-wing tradwife retvrn-to-the-land thing, which ... yeah, obviously it's horrible. It glorifies this past that never was, where white people roamed the land and made their dens in lush glades built over native bones. And while Miyazaki's work predates a lot of this modern cottagecore nonsense, it's not impossible that he and they are both pulling from the same well of settler colonialism. Miyazaki's art is more gorgeous and imaginative than the Little House on the Prairie cosplayers who can afford $75,000 stoves but don't know how to milk a cow, but that's just a difference of degree.
I would argue that Miyazaki's view of the "idyllic life" is different from tradwife bullshit in a few crucial ways, all of which boil down to a question of humility: Miyazaki understands that humans can only live in harmony with nature, not by dominating it, and it comes from a different place than the Christian dominionist drive of the right-wing assholes who think that growing your own food and raising nine kids is easy. But Miyazaki's views of living peacefully on the land are still largely rooted in Japanese settler mythology that drove the Ainu from their lands; he's also imagining a verdant land with its original inhabitants bloodlessly removed. It's just that his idyll is a few centuries older than the American Eden.
But it's a long jump from "the landscapes he draws ignore historical reality" to "he supports right-wing ideology." Certainly, specific aesthetics can be rooted in an ideology, but I don't think you can make the case that an individual's appreciation of that aesthetic thus immediately equates to their endorsement of that ideology. As an argument, that's just a twist of the dial away from "your kinks determine your morality," which is a statement I definitely don't agree with.
Of course, this is only about the purely visual elements of his work, not his narratives. Visuals don't convey an ideology as directly as a story; it'd be the difference between appreciating Hitler's paintings and reading Mein Kampf. (Godwin's Law, I know, but I had to reach for someone with a definite ideology who had worked in both visual and narrative media, and he came first to mind. Feel free to ignore everything I say from now on, I guess.) Analyzing Miyazaki's works for how their narratives align, or don't, with right-wing ideology is beyond the scope of this post, and not something I really want to dig into right now, but at minimum I don't think you can draw a particularly straight line from, say, Princess Mononoke to settler colonialism, except perhaps in a negative sense.
Anyway, my point here is that I don't think the argument of "his works look like the stuff posted by tradwives, therefore he agrees with them" holds an especially large amount of water. Aesthetics don't necessarily equate morality.
Which kind of provides a segue into the next argument: that Miyazaki is, by creating works that depict the lives of actual individuals who worked under fascist governments, declaring his support for fascism. The two works in question are The Wind Rises, about the life and work of Jiro Horikoshi, and his manga adaptation of Tigers in the Mud, the autobiography of Otto Carius, German tank commander during WWII. I'll be honest right up front: I haven't consumed either work, so I can't comment on the specifics of how he adapts these stories, what he chooses to focus on or ignore.
But as with the previous point, from what I know of them, I think both of these works came out of his interest in machinery, and his appreciation for the people who design and operate them, not out of any love for the ideologies they served. I do think it's regrettable (if I'm being politic, "shitty" if I'm not) that he chose to make works about men who served imperial, genocidal empires, but I can understand where the impulse comes from.
In terms of depicting with humanity people who commit awful deeds or contribute to horrible goals, I think both these works are completely of a piece with Miyazaki's fictional narratives. In Princess Mononoke, Lady Eboshi is devastating the forest and massacring the spirits of the land, but she's depicted with a level of understanding and sympathy; she feeds and employs lepers and treats them with dignity, and justifies her actions as necessary to ensure the lives of others. Kushana in Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind cares for her soldiers and commands them with respect, and regrets the actions she has to take in service of her aims. Neither of them are "good" characters, but they're not intended to be. Miyazaki's aim with these characters—all of his characters, really—was not to present moral paragons, nor even pure villains, but to show nuanced and multi-faceted individuals with complex motivations. Miyazaki isn't interested in producing morality plays; his interest is in humans.
Which is why I can understand him making works about Horikoshi and Carius: he doesn't see them as a bad man who made a bad plane or a bad man who drove a bad tank, but as people with interiority and complex motivations forced to serve evil ends. Do I agree with that characterization of either man? Not necessarily, but again, that's how I think Miyazaki would justify his work. The quote that I think sums this up very well (which, yes, I did just find on the Wikipedia page, but what do you want? I'm not getting paid for actual deep-dive research) comes from a 1989 interview with Comic Box:
The truth is that I am happiest when I am writing about stupid airplanes and tanks in magazines like Model Graphix.
Miyazaki isn't writing about airplanes and tanks, and the men who design and piloted them, because he agrees with the ideologies of the empires that used them. He's writing about them because he really likes airplanes and tanks. Once upon a time, a little kid visited his parents' factory and saw a giant metal bird fly into the air, and he never forgot it. (Am I romanticizing a childhood in Imperial Japan? Yes. Is that the point of what I'm saying? Please submit your answers in essay form.) Similarly to the above point, just because he likes the aesthetics of war machines doesn't mean he supports their use.
And that leads into the final point, that Miyazaki has made statements which appear to ignore the historical reality of these machines' use in favor of admiring their creation and design. The original poster quoted part of an article from The Guardian in 2013 about the controversy over The Wind Rises. I want to highlight this section, which was also in their quote:
Miyazaki, a warplane enthusiast since childhood, insisted Horikoshi was beyond reproach. "Jiro Horikoshi was the most gifted man of his time in Japan," he said in a 2011 interview with Cut magazine. "He wasn't thinking about weapons – really all he desired was to make exquisite planes."
Look at how Miyazaki is framing things: he is discussing Horikoshi as a creator, not as part of the imperial war machine. (The second paragraph also neatly mirrors the first, which emphasizes Miyazaki's own love of warplanes despite the strong and consistent anti-war message of his films.) I don't agree with Miyazaki's opinion that Horikoshi was "beyond reproach," but I can understand how he would regard Horikoshi as a man dominated by his times and forced into an intolerable position.
I think Miyazaki put his foot in his mouth when he tried to respond to these criticisms, but again, let's not mistake his poorly-phrased and ill-considered defense of a biographical film about a complex man for a full-throated declaration of right-wing politics. Indeed, let's look at a couple paragraphs from earlier in that same article:
Japanese nationalists, meanwhile, took to online forums to denounce Miyazaki, a former trade union official with well-documented leftwing leanings, as a "traitor" and "anti-Japanese" for the film's focus on the futility of war. But they were most angered by an essay Miyazaki had written to coincide with the film's release in which he condemned Japan's modern-day drift to the right, including plans by the prime minister, Shinzo Abe, to revise the country's pacifist constitution.
Or maybe we could point out that Miyazaki refused to attend the Academy Awards in 2003, when Spirited Away was nominated, due to the United States' bombing of Iraq. Or, just for kicks, let's look at his remarks on accepting the Ramon Magsaysay Award in the Philippines in 2024:
“The Japanese did a lot of terrible things back then. They killed many civilians. The Japanese people must not forget this. It will always remain. With such history, I solemnly accept the Ramon Magsaysay Award from the Philippines.”
Doesn't exactly sound like the views of a hardcore fascist to me.
Here's the conclusion that I take away from having seen/read most of Miyazaki's work: I don't think he's a very political person. Or rather, since we are all political actors both subject to and able to influence politics (albeit to a limited degree), I don't think he sees the world in terms of politics. I don't think he cares about systems nearly as much as he cares about people: individuals and their reactions to the circumstances under which they live and work. I would describe him as a humanist, I suppose, as much as that term can have a definition: someone who is fascinated by the choices that a person makes about the situation in which they live.
Seen through this lens, his works about Horikoshi and Carius make perfect sense. Miyazaki wants to make art about people in specific times and places forced to make difficult choices. He doesn't give much thought to the systems under which they lived, except to generally condemn them, but neither does he consider how his biographies of men who contributed to the deaths of millions might read to an outside observer.
(If I were feeling psychoanalytic, I might also speculate that this is partly the reason for the messianic tone of Nausicaä, which I always found odd considering that he's not a Christian, nor does he tend to employ Christian iconography in his work. Miyazaki's works tend to focus on one or a very small cast of characters, and in an adventure story like Nausicaä, particularly one so long and developed, the natural instinct for a creator so focused on characters is to make his protagonist into someone who can transform the system fundamentally. Hence, Nausicaä as "the blue-clad one" who will save the world from devastation is a natural outgrowth of his humanistic impulses. But that's just a theory. A game theory)
Anyway, all of this boils down to: no, Hayao Miyazaki isn't a fascist. But like Porco, he doesn't particularly want to fight the system, or even pay much attention to it; he'd rather remain on his private island with his plane, looking at the sky.
(Lastly, for the commenters on the post who were saying things like "of course he's a fascist! he was born in Imperial Japan!", please submit a 5,000-word essay detailing how much control Miyazaki had over the location of his birth, and how much agency he had over his country's direction during WWII considering he was born in 1941. For extra credit, tell me how I was responsible for the Gulf War at the tender age of 6.)

Attack on Titan: Annie Leonhart, Mikasa Ackerman, Sasha Braus, Ymir, Christa Lenz, Hange Zoë, Hitch Dreyse, Yelena, Pieck
‼️ Fem Reader ‼️
[Scenario #2] Who Introduces You
---
Tumblr media
Annie Leonhart: Hitch, her roommate, introduces you to Annie. It was awkward at first due to Annie's anti-social behavior with those around her, but to some type of miracle she was slowly warming up to you and Hitch was very impressed with herself over your success.
Mikasa Ackerman: Armin, her friend, introduces you to Mikasa, and she didn't know what to expect from you since she didn't exactly know you. Armin knew you were going to be a good friend towards Mikasa by how you treat everyone around you along with how you act on the front lines. He had high hopes and by the look of it, Mikasa was growing attached to you.
Sasha Braus: Connie, her friend, introduces you to Sasha. At first, you were overwhelmed by her obsession and love for food, but you found that an adorable characteristic. You would give her the leftovers that you didn't eat when Connie dragged you over to her and she soon became friends with you.
Ymir: Christa, her friend, introduces you to Ymir. She wasn't very fond of you at first, but when getting to know you she became excitingly opened with you. Doing things she would do with Christa she did with you.
Christa Lenz: Ymir, her friend, introduces you to Christa. She was polite, since she didn't know you, but didn't have high hopes since it was Ymir's friend. To her surprise you weren't anything like Ymir, and she instantly wanted to know you more
Hange Zoë: Erwin, a commander, introduces you to Hange. She didn't understand at first, thinking you were another titan shifter she could experiment on, but with further explanation she understood that you both had similar interests which got her excited when meeting you. She wanted to have you stay with her, but you had other duties to do.
Yelana: No-one really introduced you to her, she had just bumped into you one time, and finally had you to herself. She was very fond of your personality,  knowing you were taking things seriously, and understand the reasons of everything around you. It was satisfying hearing your voice with out anothers interrupting you on various meetings, and it was rare to have you alone to have a talk one-on-one, so when she did she waa grateful.
"It is nice to finally be able to talk to you, L/N."
Pieck: Porco introduced you to her, you weren't ready. She was a complete goddess, you wanted more than to just hug her right then and there, but that would be too impulsive. "I am Y/N L/N!" She was very found of your flustered behavior and played around with it, but Porco stopped her before you busted into flames.

The flags of Porco Rosso
Well, well, well (a pit or hole sunk into the earth to reach a supply of water)
I think i'm back. Soon enough we'll go back to your regularly scheduled programming of walls of text relating to vexillology, but for now, I have something a bit more exciting for you and that I've been working on for quite a while now.
My third vexillological essay "The flags of Porco Rosso: The relation between a anti-fascist pig and flying pieces of cloth" is finally finished!
For the small group of people for whom the interest in vexillology and Ghibli films overlay, it's time.
Even though i'm not a big fan of anime, Porco Rosso is one of my absolutely favourite films, and guess what? Its riddled with flags! So, it's only natural that this ended up happening.
If you are interested in reading it, here you have the links for the

responding to your post about the aot ending. (if this doesn’t work for what you wanted don’t answer but i thought i’d open up about this!)
i just finished attack on titan a few days ago. because before that, i hated what i saw. like, from the perspective of someone who got all their information from manga clippings on tumblr. and here’s why i hated it with every fiber of my being:
a) i hated marley. i didn’t like reiner or zeke, i hated gabi, and i hated how much attention they got in the final season/issues. i wanted to see our main cast, not these side characters who ruined everything. (after finally finishing it, i have a new appreciation. i still dislike gabi and zeke, and i’m not the biggest fan of reiner. but i found myself absolutely adoring porco and colt and pieck and it gave me room to open up)
b) i hated eren. he went from the protagonist we were supposed to adore to the antagonist we were fighting against and i thought it was too bold of a choice and i couldn’t get on board with it. the whole conversation with armin and mikasa… ugh. i was infuriated. and everything i saw only furthered that. the rumbling?? mikasa kissing his decapitated head??? it was all so weird and upsetting to me. (i sobbed over the scene where she kissed him. i cried through the intro every time. he was a child. he just wanted to save his friends.)
c) levi. i was BEYOND convinced that without hange in the picture, he couldn’t have a happy ending. i was livid that he survived. i was infuriated that he survived AND didn’t ever fully heal from his physical injuries. it felt like they had taken everything from him, and i was so mad about it. (i made a whole post about how wrong i was about this one)
so, yeah! these were the reasons that it took me several years to finally actually finish attack on titan, and see that the ending isn’t as bad as i had previously thought.
Thank you for answering and wanting to share your opinion! Even though you had rocky opinions starting out i’m glad you were able to finish it in the end, no matter how your opinions changed or stayed the same!
Here’s my thoughts: (feel free to skip if you’re not interested)
It took me a really long time to finish AOT as well, i started watching it when Season 1 came out and then was hesitant to watch any further when the next season was added because i was nervous about how the story would go, im glad i finished it when i did though because i grew up and was able to understand the plot a lot better.
i can completely relate on not liking Gabi or Zeke, even after finishing the show i still strongly dislike them. though i feel a little neutral when it comes to Reiner and the other Warriors. I feel bad for Reiner and how far he was pushed even after he had wanted to die but his actions were still awful, i do not sympathize with him but i do pity him. Marley is still unforgivable in my eyes.
As far as Eren goes, i’m pretty neutral on him, it’s very Love Hate relationship between me and him. It was the first time i’ve ever seen a protagonist become the antagonist (or at least an anti-hero) so it was very shocking. I hate Eren because he made the decision without anyone else’s consideration and believed it was okay, even after we get a glimpse of his talk with Armin in the final episode he still did The Rumbling. I love him because i feel bad for him, he was just a kid when he was pushed into the role of a Titan shifter and everyone in the Survey Corps took advantage of his titan, seeing him as a tool rather than anything else.
I believe that how things ended was the only way things could have ended, everyone was pushed to the extreme and killing Eren was the only way to end the story (i know a lot of people have problems with the ending because of Eren dying)
I was happy to see that Levi got a (overall) neutral ending (imo) although i agree that without Hange in the picture it would be hard to see Levi surviving I believe that Hange dying was the final straw with him so you can imagine my surprise to see that he survived AND then was in a portion where he was being very kind and generous to the kids (though it makes sense because he had been in the same position as them before) i’m very happy he survived in the end
In the end, i didn’t side with either sides of the war because overall, there were no completely good people with good intentions, and i was glad it turned out that way because no one is entirely good. Nothing is ever black and white.
Overall it’s really interesting to see what other people think of the ending so thanks for sharing!
