I heard a raw line from Guilllermo Del Toro the other day about monsters being the perfect way to express human failure:
ā€œā€¦monsters, I believe, are patron saints of our blissful imperfection, and they allow and embody the possibility of failing.ā€
And i was wondering your take on this quote in relation to things like vampire and werewolf and other semi-monster subtexts. ā€œMonstrousā€ humans that are ironically allowed to act more human more often thanā€¦ humans. I just find the attempt to make an outlet for imperfection while still at large criticizing it fascinating.
I mean, yeah, there's a long history of interpreting monsters through queer, anti-colonial, feminist and other Outsider lenses for exactly those reasons. The monster is the Other who is vilified by the in-group, which represents all that the in-group hates. The monster must, by its nature, fail to live up to the standards and expectations of the in-group, which is why it must be destroyed. But that also means the monster is free from the standards and expectations of the in-group, including oppressive and bigoted ones.
So, as an example, if you're queer, and rhetorically treated as inhuman and monstrous and diseased anyway, or eugenically classified as a deviant mutation or sub-derivation of "real" people, there is real appeal and a real sense of resistance in claiming monsterhood, in embracing it and glorying in it.
In part, that's what the rallying cry "we're here, we're queer, get used to it!" meant and still means. It is a reclaiming of monsterhood as a source of strength and community and pride, rather than shame. Slurs are used to Other queer people, to set them apart from "real" people and mark them out as a monstrous deviation from the virtuous norm - slurs are used to call us monsters. And thus a lot of queer people find a lot of power and freedom in reclaiming them, in turning their Othering into a flag to rally around.
And I think that's still a big part of the appeal of the monster, honestly, that freedom from being what someone else thinks you ought to be.
If you're a monster, you don't have to have the perfect body, you don't have to suppress your lust or your love. You don't have to shave your body hair or dress correctly for your assigned gender, or have a white picket fence house with a spouse and 2.3 children. You don't have to sit primly at the dinner table, you don't have to repress your emotions, you don't have to hate the foreigner or despise the gays or fear the trans agenda. You don't have to have a small, straight nose or perfect cheekbones, you don't have to wait to fuck until you're married, or pretend you want to fuck at all. You don't have to want to get rich or be a CEO, you don't have to pull yourself up by your bootstraps or be on your grindset, or cheer when the cops clear out a homeless camp.
To be a monster is to be free from the inhumanity that is forced on us by white supremacy, by fatphobia, by heteronormativity, by imperialism, and by the interests of capital. To be a monster is to be human in all the ways that are inconvenient to oppression.
... but I went off on a tangent there a little bit - vampires and werewolves, right. I have no theoretical or academic basis for any of this, so this is entirely a personal hot take, but I think vampires are perhaps a bit more about "passing" as a fantasy. Not necessarily in a gender sense, but the ability to keep your true nature undetected by the "normal" folk, while the secret things that make you different also make you dangerous and powerful. Surviving by stealing sustenance from a world that hates you, on terms that are entirely yours to dictate. "I will survive even if it kills you," that kind of vibe.
Werewolves, on the other hand, feel more like a defiant, angry embrace of the monstrous. Transforming into something vast and powerful and furious, growing out of your skin, out of your form, out of your boundaries; howling your nature to the moon and mauling any motherfucker who has a problem with it. Giving in to all the beastly unnatural urges, and diving into the horrible monstrous wants and desires that boil inside you (which, remember, include things like Not Wanting To Fuck or Wanting To Hold A Girl's Hand In A Lesbian Sort Of Way). Less the "I outfoxed your social game and drank you dry" slick vampire power fantasy and more the "call me a slur one more time and I'm going to wear your entrails like a fucking scarf" power fantasy.
Again, that's just personal hot takes, everyone's understanding of the monstrous in relation to themselves is different. I've seen a number of genderfluid and nb people use monstrousness as a way to defy occupying a shape that can be gendered for example.

i'm so so obsessed with the winter in hawkins series!! i love a loser!steve and the kids pushing the steve x reader agenda
LITERALLY ME TOO! i am so glad u like it. truly nothing and no one compares to poor babygirl loser!steve. and now because iā€™m crazy, i came up with a billion headcanons for winter in hawkins au.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
robin was obviously definitely the first one to notice babygirls longing glances (does that make robin olaf or sven in this situationā€¦)
of course, steve was catching strays from dustin long before but it was all conjecture for like the first month
once robin pinpointed steveā€™s desperation and utter infatuation with you, she was hooked and intent on finding dumb excuses for the two of you to be alone
aka robin is the WORST instigator and only encourages loser!steve
yes, she thoroughly clowns on him, but her heart says steve x reader ftw
the rest of the kids find out because dustin will. not. shut. up! about it
again, thanks to auntie robin only fanning the flames
(they came up with a group name for their shenanigans: the secret society consisting of everyone who thinks steve is her prince charming OR the prince charming project for short)
(dustin uses the full name every time)
(the main points at meetings include planning your wedding, drawing your future children, and anything anti-brad)
speaking of brad, steve still remembers exactly where he was when you told him you got a new boyfriend
he cried in his car after work that day
robin was in the passenger seat
she cried, too
that was really what spurred loser!steve on
before that, steve was minding his own hopeless romantic business, but the introduction of brad put emphasis on the ā€˜hopelessā€™ aspect
honestly, steveā€™s just glad he still gets to see you every weekend for game night
brad is not invited to game night
you donā€™t think heā€™d come even if he was
steve hates brad
regardless of br*d, steve is not shy about complimenting you on anything and everything
sure, it makes him a little blushy thinking about how youā€™ll react
with that dazzling smile he adores
and yeah, theres a tiny wobble in his voice when he gets your attention
but you donā€™t seem to notice
and if you do, you donā€™t seem care
(you always notice, and you think itā€™s sweet)
ā€œi like your hair like thatā€
ā€œreally? thanks, stevie!ā€
oh he melts
whenever you compliment him back, he takes diligent notes
one time he wore the same shirt three times in one week just because you mentioned how it complimented his eyes
he also got a big head when you told him his sailor outfit makes him look dashing
sometimes the kids write out lists of really good and not at all embarrassing pick up lines
sometimes these lists suspiciously wind up in steveā€™s glove box or tip jar
one time a list appeared in his wallet
itā€™s weird that they practically pickpocketed him but itā€™s weirder that they had access to his wallet and didnā€™t take the twenty
robin has a secret scrapbook dedicated to you and steve
it has secret pictures (courtesy of el), ticket stubs, cute stickers, and random receipts
if you couldnā€™t already tell, everyone is very normal about the situation
steve gets to know you so well that you actually start saying things in tandem
he knows your ice cream order, your coffee order, what temperature you like the thermostat, the name of your first pet
heā€™s never been good at memorization but it feels so easy knowing itā€™s all attached to you somehow
he will often bring you random little flowers that seem so small in the palm of his hand
it makes him feel very proud when you tuck them behind your ear
even more so when you let him do it for you
one late summer night, steve hosts a sleepover
OR the kids begged and begged him to either ask you on a date or let everyone use his pool for the night and watch a scary movie and stay up really late and eat junk food
so because heā€™s a loser, steve hosts a sleepover
and his heart flutters when you show up on his dimly lit doorstep with a gaggle of children behind you
they push past the two of you and barrel straight towards the back door
you warn him, saying youā€™re pretty sure only two of them brought towels
he chuckles and assures you that they do this every time and he already has a stack set out
you laugh in response and he thinks this is what a heart attack feels like
just imagine how he survived the rest of the night basking in your company and the soft moonlight
you sat next to him during the movie and fell asleep on his shoulder and he swears heā€™s never been so still
and the movie was really scary
steve wishes brad wasnā€™t such a dick
especially because heā€™s made you cry now on a handful of different occasions
steveā€™s flattered that heā€™s the first one you call, but heā€™s heartbroken hearing your choked sobs through the receiver
itā€™s kind of like a routine the way you always apologize for dumping everything on him and the way he tells you heā€™d do it any time
for you
at this point, he doesnā€™t care how desperate he makes himself seem
he really cares about you
steve likes you, and brad could spare a couple teeth
but he knows you love brad blahblahblah que sera sera whatever
he shouldā€™ve asked you out when he had the chance instead of sulking and pining
robin still has hope three months into the relationship
she knows for a fact steve still has a raging crush on you
those big brown eyes give everything away
and the way he gushes about your phone calls and your cute sweaters
something happens and iā€™m head over heels
steve has your gift picked out a month before the holiday season
little does he know, youā€™ve got his picked out, too
ā€œi saw this in a shop window and thought of youā€¦ā€
ā€œi remember you mentioning that you wanted oneā€¦ā€
they really are just two losers fated to fall in love
sigh
more like this

As always Iā€™m loving the ā€œunpackingā€ of all of the Zoro happening over here at all times. After much thought on this whole Zoro thinks himself weak- must get stronger no matter the cost agenda. Do you think heā€™s anti-pain meds? Viewing it as weak? Especially after events like thriller bark where heā€™d be like ā€¦ I withstood that, I donā€™t need the fucking pills for a migraine brought on by my mysterious eye injury and prolonged use of one eye for my routine feats of impossibility.
Meanwhile flash to the domestic as shit scenarios where Law is just likeā€¦ take the fucking Motrin so you can get back on your bullshit.
Btw loved the car accident bit. Thatā€™s the brand of domestic shit I needed šŸ«¶
ohhh interesting question. mhh i think it depends on the situation because we all know that zoro is definitely in favor of self medicating. he does drink a lot (and even if canon treats it like a fun character quirk) that is just what it is. i dont think he would be necessarily against pain medication in general if he felt he needed it to function. see him in wano with the magic healing serum, in the broadest sense that was also a "pain medication" even if it made everything worse after
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i do think afterwards he would deny himself that. if it was outside of a dangerous situation where he needed to function he wouldnt take pain medication. he does have a self harm streak a mile wide and i think thats just an extention of that. like why else would he train while already injured and deny himself rest. i think with pain meds it would go the same way. IF left to his own devices. i dont think he would refuse it if it came come chopper or someone else. like he does let the others take care of him
Tumblr media
i just think that he doesnt often give them opportunity to do so and they often dont see that he needs to
zoro would have a very complicated relationship to pain.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so i think if he thinks he has to "learn" from the pain he has he would refuse any relief from that bc then where is the lesson right
(actually a thing i also go into in laws twelve sequel like i dont think zoro has known a lot of affection or physical touch that has been gentle period so his perception and evaluation of pain is going to be skewed as hell)
in terms of your examples for the migraine i could see him taking some as long as he doesnt associate it with his lost eye (given the lost eye is something he views as a failure - we dont know what happened to it after all) also never considered hed get headaches from that but you right. i can also see him have chronic pain after thriller bark so his normal level of pain is already debilitating for most people
or in general could be why he drinks as a subconcious way of numbing the pain while not even considering medication

Sometimes I feel people who spend too much time arguing online about specific stances forget that sometimes people just like to talk about things that are important and meaningful to them regardless of if it supports or weakens their stance and/or in group
Like yeah I have opinions and kinda engage with syscourse, but for the most part, before I'm pro-endo or what ever I am a person of color, I'm AAPI, I'm a practicing Buddhist, I am visibly trans and queer, I am intersex, I love and care a lot about birds, I love research particularly in soft sciences, I have late-stage recovery person with DID and complex trauma collected through my life span, I'm autistic and I professionally work with kids
Topics relating to any of those are things I enthusiastically talk about and love to engage in discussion over at any point and SOMETIMES those things overlap with online discourse and syscourse and overall, the interaction of ALL of those factors lead me to generally be pro-endo
But I am not talking about those things because I'm pro-endo or because I want to push an agenda or bolster a side; I'm talking about them cause >they matter to me beyond online discourse and the online discourse is just one of the many places those topicss appear in real life<
As a POC Buddhist, "tulpa"mancers are culturally appropriative or, at the very least, the "tulpa" community has SEVERE racial issues and perspectives in the community's culture that they have got to work on and address properly. If you deny that, you are an asshole. That supports anti-endo sentiments but WAIT
As a POC Buddhist, I find it pretty colonialist and white / western centric to claim that the ONLY way for someone to legitamently experience themselves as more than one is through trauma because MANY non-european, non-western cultures have the experience of being multiple normalized without being anything clinical or due to trauma. That's a point for pro-endos.
Wait what? Why am I saying endos and anti-endos are behaving in ways rooted in cultural appropriation, racism, orientalism, and colonialist ideology? What?
Maybe it's cause cultural appropriation, racism, orientalism and colonialist ideology is pervasive in society and all groups and I am much more concerned about calling THAT out than I am over an arbitrary online discourse about whose the most real
95% of what I post about I don't identify as syscourse cause syscourse is RARELY the point as much as it is a byproduct OF the point. Like I know many would consider it still syscourse and thats fair and valid, but syscourse is rarely the intentional point of any of my posts these days because its honestly such a stupid debate

Hey I was wondering since you are very familiar with superhero comics/media and I am not: I remember reading on TVTropes about how there was some comic arc where Superman is basically forced to kill the Joker/does it under extremely understandable circumstances, but then immediately jumps off the slippery slope and becomes a horrible mass murderer. SO, I was wondering if Amy in Worm is a commentary/take on this, on what kind of warped understanding of morality taught by someone's family environment would one have to have to actually believe breaking one's principles once while being forced to by a serial killer would make you into an irredeemable villain forever, and what kind of trauma and warped understanding would you have to have for that to actually be TRUE and for you to actually do horrible things afterward. Emphasizing that that kind of moral arc is not how normal humans work and there would have to be very unusual circumstances for it to happen. But since I don't know about superhero comics I can't really elaborate on this, so I wonder what you think of the idea.
So the specific arc you're talking about was Injustice: Gods Among Us, and the tie-in comics produced as a backstory for that video game- which came out in 2013 onward, so the times don't line up for Amy to be a commentary on that arc specifically. In particular, Superman has basically the exact opposite issue that Amy does; he killed Joker because he murdered an entire city, and he justifies his subsequent slide towards tyranny on the grounds that he wasn't being proactive enough to stop things like that beforehand. Kind of a common refrain in "Superman loses it" stories- refer in particular to the "I did love being a hero. But if this is where it leads, I'm done with it" scene from the Justice Lords arc of the old Justice League cartoon. (Batman is occasionally painted as having a "murder-is-like-potato-chips" problem, refraining from killing because he wouldn't be able to stop. Depends on the writer, though.) What Amy absolutely is commenting on is what I think was a very pervasive idea in cape comics in the years when Worm was being formulated- the idea of the hero/villain binary as a real and meaningful thing, two meaningful categories of people which you can switch between as a discreet and meaningful action. Black Knight, Hawkeye, Rogue- all superheroes who started as supervillains, two distinct statuses which they held. Characters like Deadpool and Harley Quinn start as villains and drift towards a third-position antiheroic middle-ground that's treated as noteworthy for not really falling into either camp- in turn sort of generating what basically amounts to a third cluster, a coherent trinary. (A lot of 90s anti-heroes reifying the binary in how they're marketed as violating it.) Not actually many heroes I can think of who've gone full villain and had that stick, but definitely heroes who've flipped for a time in a meaningful way- Hal Jordan becoming Parallax sticks in my head. And at least since the 80s you've had writers making post-modern gags about powered people who opt out entirely and have day jobs using their powers for something mundane. (The X-Men are all over the place in here.) And subdued but gradually swelling in popularity is where Worm lands- the idea that what you're actually looking at here is a mob of agents, with their own granular agendas, alliances, outlooks, lines in the sand, and relationship to the law-as-written- that when a hero starts acting villainous or a villain does something heroic, when they approach a fifty-fifty split without actually changing their label, it's an indictment of the idea you can actually broadly group them so neatly in the first place. And there's a lot of clunky dialogue in parts of Worm where characters are treating the hero/villain binary as a real tangible thing- "hero behavior, villain behavior-" in a way that seems hilariously naĆÆve and awkward from where I'm sitting in 2023, and indeed was probably kind of a no-duh moment even in 2011. Anti-heroes had been around for a while. But I do think that those sequences were written in conversation with an assumption about the genre that wasn't totally dead in the water at the time, an assumption that Amy holds as a way of showing how treating the categories as innate will drive you nuts when they fail to model reality. I genuinely believe that the MCU and DCEU have killed this binary dead in the general consciousness, though. These days a "superhero" is whoever the protagonist of the movie is, and the idea that that can encompass a whole range of moralities is pretty strongly cemented. A supervillain is whoever fights the star of the movie once and then dies. It's whoever is creating a problem right that second, not a social role you hold for a prolonged period. In this way and some others, Worm hasn't been commenting on the dominant paradigm of superheroism in some time- it's becoming kind of a period piece.

To those agreeing with what I say but saying I'm mean and "Let's just be nice" when we're discussing TRA things or feminism or J. K. Rowling... I am DONE being nice.
I was nice the first 100.000 times. Now I've been bombarded with private messages and Tumblr "post" (the envelope thingy) and general comments, plus seeing dozens of posts that I just can't be nice and patient about. Because these MORONS and some of them, actual TERRORISTS, are literary burning books, twisting the Harry Potter stories to justify their unjustifiable extremism, harassing children for being Potterheads, mocking adults for finding solace in Harry Potter, attacking and sending death threats and death wishes to everyone that disagrees with them, manipulating children, autistic, and also all kinds of mentally disabled people to absorb their agenda and mutilate their bodies, targeting the lives of people who disagree with them and attacking them and their loved ones, cyberbullying left and right hiding beneath anonymous names and pink and blue flags, burning and thrashing businesses where feminists go, turning Pride into an event where rapists are being allowed to take the mic and say to kill women (literally) and being applauded, saying homosexuality is transphobic and raping lesbians and gays, applauding men changing in locker rooms in front of little girls, applauding men taking over women's sports and spaces, applauding sending rapists to women's prisons, applauding children being brainwashed into life changing treatments, terrorising the world, imposing their own agenda with violence and threats, silencing and attacking the detrans community, manipulating the media, fucking it all up for all the normal trans people who are now thanks to the TRAS being seen as terrorists, and justifying their hatred and their violence on them having basically no reading comprehension, twisting people's words to have a pity party, and creating a self-imposed narrative to try and convince us that everyone wants them to die so it's all right for them to attack everyone else and be given free reign and justification to do so. Police can't even report that a criminal is trans any more and people are losing their jobs for reporting crimes by trans people, for fuck's sakes.
Do you know how often I've dealt with the same lazy justification to "explain" to me, a mixed race Jewish descent woman, why JK Rowling is anti semitic or racist? Or why she's transphobic? And every time one tries to nicely point out that they're twisting things and decontextualising them and inserting their own racist views, they just tell you to kill yourself. They've taken over press, media, social media, pride, women's spaces, they're going after children, attacking local pubs and restaurants... I'm not going to allow it. I'm done being nice.
I see them bullying the detrans community and shutting them up. I see how they harass and threaten the trans community that doesn't want to occupy women's spaces or that doesn't condone violence and threats and wants children to be left alone. I see how they attack women, lesbians and gays. I have a collection of articles of their rapes and other attacks, mainly to women. And they won't brainwash me.
I'm not afraid. These are a violent, terrorist mob that is taking over the left and making themselves the victims when we haven't faced a more aggressive and dangerous mob since the Nazis. Have you seen the videos of the teens and young adults crying in the US Congress, talking about how afraid they are when they see men changing in their lockers, or talking about how their breasts were chopped off and begging us, adults, to stop this nonsense? I have and I'm listening.
Like Joanne Rowling, like all the women who won't wheesht, I'm going to fight for those kids, for the normal people in the trans community, for detransitioners, gays, lesbians, mentally disabled... I'm not afraid and I'm not nice. Not any more. You want a fight? I'm full of weapons.

to those who are either protest voting (as in, not voting at all) or voting third party: i understand protesting & speaking out against the president. yes, absolutely they need to held accountable. that said... are you also protesting members of the Senate & the House? for being as knowledgeable as you claim you seem to think the president & the vp are monarchs & make all decisions themselves. please know that it is Congress who decides to go to war or not, etc.
are you voting locally? are you making sure these same ghouls who don't give a shit about what's happening to Palestinians & wants Israel to succeed don't get into office? or are you saying that your vote doesn't matter & you just choose not to? why are you surprised then that these pieces of shit are voted in if you continue to allow older generations to choose your representation for you?
genocide is evil. it's something everyone should be against, absolutely. but if your only solution is to vote only during federal elections (jill stein is a putin puppet & tbh it's weird that the problem that is Russia isn't more of an issue still. she doesn't get involved except during presidential elections & idk why that isn't sus to you) & to cause discord & division during an election that really isn't normal, it doesn't really feel like it's for change. it feels like the kind of change that you want needs to happen yesterday & fuck everyone else in this country.
you want things to be better? start by caring about what happens locally. younger voters are notorious about not voting in local elections. i don't want to victim blame but voting actually works & if you decide to not let your voice be heard then that's your choice but don't be surprised when people become pissed at your whining when you didn't show.
is there any outrage aimed at Congressmen? it's hard to tell since Palestine & protestor's anti-biden stance are the loudest about it but it just tells me you don't actually know how this government works & you need to make your local politicians held responsible, too. change starts at the local level. if you're not there then your voice just won't be heard.
Project 2025 is real, too. if you claim people voting for Harris in order to protect themselves & their loved ones are "pro-genocide" for it then don't be surprised they don't take you seriously. frankly it's vile to claim that stance. there's so much nuance here. it's complicated. i understand your anger but in the end stein has no real chance to get into office & it will be between Harris & trump. you will be governed by one of them whether you like it or not. trump promised Netanyahu anything & Harris has shown she is willing to listen. what will you choose? ignoring it won't make it better for you or anyone who isn't white, xtian, straight, cis men. just think about it for a bit.
anyways NEVER STOP TALKING ABOUT PROJECT 2025/AGENDA 47. please check your voter registration status often. talk to any friends, family, acquaintances, etc who are even THINKING about voting for Harris/Walz. it doesn't matter what party you're normally affiliated with; every voice matters in this fight for our democracy. vote early of you can or take PTO/call out sick if you can, just MAKE SURE YOU VOTE. good luck & stay safe, esp everyone in red & red/swing states šŸ’™

Can I request headcannons with poly vbs reader who's like wonyoung from ive?
Tumblr media
(Job and appearance wise)
hcs - vvbs w/a wonyoung-like reader
Tumblr media
an: you bet your ass you can !! i saw wonyoung and did a little jump for joy (mentally)
tags: somewhat-feminine!reader, idol!reader, reader's a member of more more jump! or some adjacent j-pop group, ppl give idol!reader shit (much like wonyoung) but they handle it like the slayboss they are
Tumblr media
šŸŽ€ okay first of all
šŸŽ§ bc you're wonyoung-like i have to clarify that yes, ppl on the internet criticize you for no fucking reason ! not cool but it izz what it izz
šŸ“ you don't let it bother you because you're just Better Than That (plus you're rich, loved, and confident, why should you?)
šŸŽ€ assume you're a very popular, well-liked member of mmj! and you've had a pretty large following from a past career as a soloist
šŸŽ§ i hc an and akito as big idol fans (akito would rather die than have you find out he used to be a die-hard fan of yours, posters and merch and all stashed in his closet), so they'd definitely support you at gigs and performances!! front row seats and banners babeyyyy
šŸ“ kohane doesn't really listen to idol music and toya... is toya. but they'd prefer to watch you dance/dance with you!! especially during the rare moments when your normally-PACKED schedule is empty for once !!
šŸŽ€ watch you three be stuck in the company practice rooms for hours on end (assuming akito and an join later/for less time since they're Busy doing Stuff . yeah)
šŸŽ§ now for specifics !!
šŸ“ akito defends you from antis online . user ynlover123? that's him [he has multiple side accounts on every social media you can think of]
šŸŽ€ every time a clip of you doing something random but Cutely (like wony's little happy dance and the video of her eating a strawberry) you get So Much shit for it. god forbid a girl (g/n) do anything
šŸŽ§ Haters be hating šŸ˜‚
šŸ“ an is a full on fansite dude (idk why but she seems like a photographer to me. i haven't played through the vvbs story don't @ me)
šŸŽ€ fansign? concert in tokyo? popup event? coffee shop event? private performance? she's there with her big ahh camera and filters and light boxes
šŸŽ§ you think you look ridiculous in the pictures she takes but to Literally Everyone Else you look ethereal !! like that one relatively recent pic of wony at the airport - everyone (but you) goes wild bc. yeah
šŸ“ kohane and toya are there to comfort you and make sure you take care of yourself when things get rough
šŸŽ€ ik that sounds generic and bland as hell but HEAR ME OUT !!!
šŸŽ§ i hc kohane is like a walking heater!! she gives the best hugs that make you never wanna get up from bed (best lazy day partner fr)
šŸ“ toya isn't a good cook but he'd try to make snacks and your favorite food for you !! good thing you had to take acting classes bc ... he could've tried harder šŸ—æ
šŸŽ€ thankfully he can at least cut fruit without losing a limb, so in classic asian mom fashion, he brings you plates of fruit when you're feeling down - he and kohane make sure you finish it all (and kohane sneaks some pieces while toya's not looking šŸ˜)
šŸŽ§ (tbf she looks like a squirrel bc of how chubby her cheeks are - im not immune to the kohane rodent agenda)
šŸ“ all in all i feel like it'd be a really understanding relationship with poly!vvbs - they're dancers so they get how tiring it is, and especially with industry-induced worries, they'd be there to support you and make you feel loved no matter what!

Finding it very hard to buy into the self-victimizing pity party of stans who write very lengthy missives about how Cas being permitted to be openly queer is a personal attack on them.
If you feel attacked by Cas being openly queerā€¦well. I have thoughts on what you are. And why it matters so much to you to keep Cas from being queer and keep him from being openly in love with Dean. I know what you are on a petty fandom concern trolling levelā€¦and I know what you are on a real world level.
Maybe more and more people are getting how much actual homophobia fans of queer Dean, queer Cas, and Destiel actually have had to endure from spn stans. How normalized that homophobia has been for many many years.
Yes, actually, queer Dean and queer Cas and Destiel are all targeted with homophobia, have been for a long time, and now itā€™s getting worse instead of lessening. I have theories on why. In part thatā€™s a direct backlash against Misha speaking even more bluntly and openly about queer Cas. In partā€”and this is a lot more disturbingā€”the rising empowering of the far right is making fandom bigotry feel bolder.
On the upside, the masks are falling away more and more often and these antis are showing exactly what they are and how they think, the thin veneer of concern trolling and excuses is getting more and more transparent. Or maybe Iā€™ve learned to see through it more effectively? Becauseā€¦they were always like this. I had a tendency to give benefit of the doubt that it was about petty fandom agendas, that hitched onto some backhandedly queer erasing or homophobic arguments. But now Iā€™m thinking more and more itā€™s the other way around. That peopleā€™s homophobic biases are showing splattered against the canvas of their anti bi Dean, anti queer Cas, anti-Destiel discourse and this is driven not just by their zealous over protectiveness of their own favorite fictional duo, itā€™s driven by their actual real world biases.

Too many books came in at the same time from my library queue, so @redheadgleek suggests a poll and yes, letā€™s poll! Yā€™all can see myā€¦ varied reading interests lol
What should I read next?
Daughter from the Dark: Late one night, fate brings together DJ Aspirin and ten-year-old Alyona. After he tries to save her from imminent danger, she ends up at his apartment. But in the morning sinister doubts set in. Who is Alyona? A young con artist? A plant for a nefarious blackmailer? Or perhaps a long-lost daughter Aspirin never knew existed? Whoever this mysterious girl is, she now refuses to leave.
The Brilliant Life of Eudora Honeysett: Wanting to organize an assisted death on her own terms, world-weary octogenarian Eudora Honeysett forges an unexpected bond with exuberant ten-year-old Rose, who drags her to tea parties, shopping sprees, and other social excursions.
Flesh and Bone and Water: AndrƩ is a listless Brazilian teenager and the son of a successful plastic surgeon who lives a life of wealth and privilege, shuttling between the hot sands of Ipanema beach and his family's luxurious penthouse apartment. In 1985, when he is just 16, AndrƩ's mother is killed in a car accident. Clouded with grief, AndrƩ's father loses himself in his work while AndrƩ spends his evenings in the family apartment with Luana, the beautiful daughter of the family's maid. Three decades later, and now a successful surgeon himself, AndrƩ is a middle-aged father, living in London, and recently separated. One day he receives an unexpected letter from Luana, which begins to reveal the other side of their story, a story AndrƩ has long repressed.
Geek Love: The Binewskis are a carny family whose mater- and paterfamilias set out-- with the help of amphetamine, arsenic, and radioisotopes-- to breed their own exhibit of human oddities. There is Arturo the Aquaboy, who has flippers for limbs and a megalomaniac ambition worthy of Genghis Khan. Iphy and Elly, the lissome Siamese twins. Albino hunchback Oly. And the outwardly normal Chick, whose mysterious gifts make him the family's most precious-- and dangerous-- asset. As they set out across the U.S., family values will never be the same.
Same Bed Different Dreams: March 1919. Far-flung Korean patriots establish the Korean Provisional Government to protest the Japanese occupation of their country. This government-in-exile proves mostly symbolic, its petitions ignored by heads of state as Korea's nationhood is erased. After Japan's defeat in World War II, the KPG dissolves and civil war erupts, resulting in the North-South split that remains today. But what if the KPG still existed now, today-working toward a unified Korea, secretly harnessing the might of a giant tech company to further its aims?
Unholy: why white evangelicals worship at the altar of Donald Trump: Fueled by an anti-democratic impulse, and united by this narrative of reverse victimization, the religious right and the alt-right support a common agenda--and are actively using the erosion of democratic norms to roll back civil rights advances, stock the judiciary with hard-right judges, defang and deregulate federal agencies, and undermine the credibility of the free press. Increasingly, this formidable bloc is also forging ties with European far right groups, giving momentum to a truly global movement forecasted to last long after the Trump era.
Comemadre: In the outskirts of Buenos Aires in 1907, a doctor becomes involved in a misguided experiment that investigates the threshold between life and death. One hundred years later, a celebrated artist goes to extremes in search of aesthetic transformation, turning himself into an art object.
I Who Have Never Known Men: A young woman is kept in a cage underground with thirty-nine other females, guarded by armed men who never speak; her crimes unremembered... if indeed there were crimes.
Road of Bones: Kolyma Highway, otherwise known as the Road of Bones, is a 1200 mile stretch of Siberian road where winter temperatures can drop as low as sixty degrees below zero. Felix Teigland, or "Teig," is a documentary producer, and when he learns about the Road of Bones, he realizes he's stumbled upon untapped potential. Accompanied by his camera operator, Teig hires a local Yakut guide to take them to Oymyakon, the coldest settlement on Earth. Teig is fascinated by the culture along the Road of Bones, and encounters strange characters on the way to the Oymyakon, but when the team arrives, they find the village mysteriously abandoned apart from a mysterious nine-year-old girl. Then, chaos ensues.

Thanks for posting about fandom racism and racialised lenses. Iā€™m sorry for messaging anonymously. I donā€™t want to risk racialised pushback on this platform - I try to keep this a place where I can chill.
I saw another great example of the ā€˜lack of empathy towards Scottā€™ thing recently. A fan was saying how they felt so sorry for Theo because Scott had told him he was ā€˜barely even humanā€™.
And donā€™t get me wrong. Theo is a great, tragic, complex and hella good-looking character. There are a lot of those in TW, including, of course, Scott.
But itā€™s like, *dude*. Scott tells Theo that *mid-murder*. Heā€™s seconds away from death and saying that to the person who is *actually killing him*.
These are such small things to notice, right. But cumulatively, god, they can wear some of us down.
Tumblr media
This is going to sound like a non sequitur, but have you ever watched right-wing populist talking heads like Tucker Carlson, Matt Walsh, or Ben Shapiro complain about Hollywood's 'woke agenda' when it comes to recasting characters with non-white actors? It's fascinating. They very often take pains to inform us about their disdain for the cultural property in question. And while they're simultaneously telling us that we couldn't pay them enough to watch it, they also tell us why the recasting is bad and it ruins the story, though they never get around to telling us why it's so important that the character be played by a white actor.
They sound uncannily like Sterek shippers about Teen Wolf the Movie.
And not just about the movie. I mean, Anti-Scott Fandom will underline every incident from the series that makes them hate Scott McCall while demonstrating that they don't remember (or choose not to remember) any context surrounding those incidents. As you pointed out, they can find empathy for Theo after Scott delivered a mild insult (and it is mild considering that Scott 'clinging to his humanity' is so often used as an attack on him in this fandom) to the chimera while Theo was in the middle of killing him. But let's be fair. It certainly wasn't kind of Scott to point out that Theo was so evil that he pretended to be the pack's friend so he could murder Scott and enslave the others.
But then again, they do so love Derek Hale, who took the time to tell Jackson Whittemore how much Jackson deserved being murdered in Co-Captain (1x10). And, to make sure I am not a hypocrite, the context was that Derek was about to slaughter Jackson because serial-killer Alpha Peter had ordered Derek to do it.
Or they can tell us that Scott wasn't a very good friend to Stiles in Seasons 1 & 2 because he didn't pay attention to Stiles's emotional needs, but it was perfectly fine for Stiles to live vicariously through Scott's lycanthropy. Or to condemn Scott to Cocytus because he didn't have faith in Stiles in Season 5 after everything they had been through together, but it was perfectly understandable that Stiles had so little faith in Scott in Season 3A that Chris "Ever See a Rabid Dog?" Argent had to call Stiles out on it.
Scott is bad because he's sexually obsessive with Allison, though Stiles's stalking possessive behavior toward Lydia is not. Scott is bad because he was fooled by Theo, even though Derek was fooled by Peter, Kate, Peter again, Jennifer, and Peter a third time. Scott is bad because he keeps trying to go back to a normal life, though Stiles is perfectly justified trying to abandon Scott in Battlefield (2x11).
And so on, and so on, and so on.
It's not just a lack of empathy. It's entitlement. Certain characters just get to be mean to other characters when they're scared or overwhelmed or just having a bad day, and certain characters don't. Certain characters get to be "sassy," and certain characters don't. Certain characters get to pursue what makes them happy regardless of what's going on in the larger world around them, and certain characters don't. Certain characters get to make mistakes and be treated with empathy and compassion, and certain characters are held to a standard that reduces them to saint or demon. Certain characters are labeled villains when they get the people they've recruited killed or literally murder innocents with a quip and then be celebrated for it, while certain characters are labeled boring, one-dimensional, and cheats when they try their best to save people and refuse to use murder as a tool to get what they want. Anti-Scott fans -- hell, not just them, every Sterek authors who has Stiles argue "I know that Derek was an asshole, but he meant well, so, Scott, you have to submit so I can get laid!" -- cannot explain to anyone why only white characters get the benefit of that doubt, anymore than Tucker Carlson can explain to anyone why its a sign of the downfall of civilization that the actor playing Ariel in the live-action version of The Little Mermaid isn't white or Zendaya got to play Mary Jane Watson.
BUT IT'S NOT RACISM.

Another day, another tragedy. Today's burnt offering to chaos comes courtesy of Owassa, Oklahoma, where a transgender kid named Nex was bullied into an early grave. The specific details are murky (if not outright conspiratorial), but the broad outline is painfully clear: Kid gets harassed by small-minded jerks. Kid retaliates. Kid gets suspended. Kid sees no exit from an unlivable reality. Kid checks out. And we're left to pick through the ashen remains of a life that needn't have been sacrificed to the great volcanic maw of rural ignorance.
I can sadly relate to the hopelessness of being bullied as a kid. When I was 9 years old, some girl punched me in the eye during a fire drill just because she thought my curly hair made me look ugly. The teachers saw it, my classmates saw it, and nobody did a damn thing besides a half-hearted "stop it." My parents tried taking it to the administration and were stonewalled. The bullying only escalated from there. The cruel taunts over AOL Messenger in middle school, the relentless mocking about my awkward appearance. By 12 years old I had a suicide plan hatched, seeing no way out of the torment. Even asking to be homeschooled was denied by my own mother, who incredibly rationalized that "bullies are everywhere, just deal with it." Yeah, great advice.
So I know the feeling of wanting to just exit this reality altogether, to preemptively abandon a cruel existence that doesn't seem destined to improve. The self-hatred bullying breeds is a toxin. I'm grateful I hung on, but also still deeply angry at the cyclical abuse society allows under the guise of kids just "being kids." This normalization needs to end.
Which brings me back to poor Nex. What's the ultimate difference between homicide and suicide here? The semantics don't change the underlying truth: This kid was bullied to death. Whether the final blow came from an assailant or the victim's own hand is almost irrelevantā€”Nex died because small people have big fears, and they expressed those fears through cruelty. The school failed by suspending Nex instead of the perpetrators. The town failed by harboring the sort of anti-difference hatred that crushes gentle souls. Nex's parents failed by being unable to create a safe space. And we all fail when incidents like this just become think-pieces instead of catalysts for actual change.
This isn't a new story, sadly. It's the same tired tale conservatives love to ignore until it lands on their doorstep, then sweep under the rug with half-truths about psychoactive drugs and mental illness. The same culture war garbage that gets trotted out whenever reality inconveniences the regressive agenda. I can't muster much more energy than an exhausted sigh.
But here's the important part, penned directly to any LGBTQ+ youths who might find my diary: It gets better. Being a teenager is a temporarily horrific condition, but it won't last forever. The high school hellscape will eventually give way to a bigger world where you get to surround yourself with people who embrace your uniqueness. Everything feels terminal when you're young, but human existence is startlingly malleable. The alluring permanence of the grave ends up being the ultimate impermanence. You've got to hang in there and pursue the chance to build a life where rubbing others the wrong way isn't punished by ritualized torment.
It's tragic that Nex never got that opportunity. But we'd multiply the tragedy by allowing the next gender-nonconforming kid to meet the same fate. Maybe next time it'll be different. But today is just another day of profound disappointment in my fellow humans.

God I love JKR so much.
Matt Walsh has literally repeated how much heā€™s a christian nationalist (so heā€™s not a true Christian) and has spoken about how minors are ā€œmost fertileā€ and how he had thought about his own son raping his daughter and he would first worry over his son being labeled a sex offender. This man will be the next Crowder, with his wife wisening up to leave him and heā€™ll then next crusade against divorce. These weak trad larping men ARE NOT against the trans agenda. Theyā€™re only contrarians. If trans women were all anti feminists and conservatives, men like Matt would openly embrace them. Women like JKR stand up for women unapologetically
You're absolutely right. Those men aren't against the trans agenda : they hate anything remotely gender non conforming. If trans pepe didn't exist, they'd bully effeminate (gay) men and butch instead. Trans are just a more easier target (because they are much more visible and therefore hugely antagonizable).
People like him are precisely why trans people do exist, because they shame people into gender conformity. In a sense, trans people are paradoxically very gender conforming though: they think that because they don't have interest or tastes "socially accepted" they have to be of the opposite sex. So while they think they're gender conforming (transwomen think they're women so it's "normal" to them to wear women's clothing) they're actually gender non conforming for normies (transwomen are still considered as men by most people so they are seen as transvestites).
Joanne is very smart for not falling into this trap and fake benevolence of those Conservative men who don't have any remote respect for women (beside pickme fawning over the ground they walk on). She probably remember they were the ones clowning her as a big bad leftie just because she canonized some of her characters as gays or Black...
If only radfem could have such a good discernment. I'll never forget how hard they whiteknighted for that scrote nest that is Kiwifarm just because it was beefing with one trans YouTuber.... One of their biggest L so far.
