for the relationship ask game - 11 (Barry & Cisco), 34, & 47
11. [Barry and Cisco] have just stumbled into a fairy ring, and they've forgotten they ever knew each other! What happens now?
My mind went right to that episode of s3 where Barry got amnesia and fell in love with Iris all over again. In a world with Barrisco endgame...he'd be falling for Cisco (all over again, ofc, because he had a crush on Cisco the whole time in this version of events). And since both of them lose their memories, Cisco would be gushing about Barry too.
But of course they'd both try to disguise it as "friendly banter," because neither of them wanna scare off the cute guy who seems to really like them (platonically, they think. Oh, these lovable idiots).
Caitlin and Iris realize that these two will get their memories back by kissing. And both of them know that Barry and Cisco have been crushing on each other for ages, and are still flirting now, but...how to convince them to go for it?
So shenanigans ensue, in which Caitlin and Iris try to set them up, except those plans go a bit awry. But also, in a way, those plans still succeed, because Barrisco fall more in love with each other until one day they go for it and kiss. And all is well!
(Except they "forgot" where the fairy circle was, so the following week, Caitlin and Iris get stuck there 😉)
34. Are there any well-known fanon relationships (not canon), that you just can't stand?
Oh boy. There's quite a list for this one. And mind you, this is only fandom ships that I have a strong opinion on:
Snowbarry, Zutara, Tokka, Zukka, Silverusso, Samhawk, Irosami, Makroh, Cykesquill (not Aurametis ofc 💞 I’m talking about Athena x Simon), Harringrove, Obikin, Anisoka, Narumayo, Dramione (not that I particularly care about HP nowadays, but still)
(I'm not discoursing about these btw, and anyone who tries is getting blocked ✋ the anti tags are there for a reason)
47. Answered here!

It makes me sad when I look at Ace Attorney fandom stuff from 10-15 years ago and see how much more comparatively chill and accepting they were of different ships from the most popular ones back then. It wasn’t perfect or free of discourse, obviously, but at least fans could mostly get away with shipping that stuff without getting called horrible people, unlike today where the Ace Attorney fandom is determined to bully anyone who dare ship the Unacceptable Stuff™️ out of the fandom (ESPECIALLY on aatwt my goodness). I know this isn’t just me because I’ve seen even certain older fans note this and say stuff like “Wow I’ve been in the Ace Attorney fandom for years and back then there used to be so many Narumayos and ppl who shipped so-and-so in het I’m so glad these are no longer acceptable we’ve come so far” WRONG. The fandom has turned into a hivemind who think it’s acceptable to unperson others over ships and will sooner sympathize with one who harasses another over a Bad Ship than the one getting harassed because how dare they ship outside the sacred stuff. You really think it’s a good thing the AA fandom environment has gotten tyrannical about what you’re allowed to ship? Old Ace Attorney Shipping Fandom was FAR from perfect, but if your reasons for why it was bad or worse than now are “ships I dislike were allowed to exist” hoooooo boy.

curious since ive seen opinions and evidence on both. this isn’t necesarily about which one you ship or think is better, just which one is (in your opinion) more intended by the creators!

Narumayo Week 2024 Day 6
This one's for the haters lol. @narumayoweek2024, enjoy! Second part is forthcoming.
Prompt: AU
If Mia hadn’t left her lunch on the kitchen counter, they probably wouldn’t have met that day.
Maya unfortunately noticed the mishap, long after her sister joined the morning traffic jam. So, she slung the tote’s long strap over her shoulder and set out on her bike. She made surprisingly good time, taking the free spot on the bike rack under the building’s sign.
Armando, Fey, and Wright Law Offices.
She’d visited once, to surprise Mia and her boyfriend Diego with takeout, for their hard work overtime because the other lawyer was out sick. She hoped Mia would be delighted, and in excitement, she hurtled past the elevator doors. Right into someone else.
Hands clasped her shoulders, and a deep voice sent vibrations right to the middle of her chest. “Whoa, there. You okay?”
She looked up, heat climbing up her face. Broad shoulders, a sharp jawline, kind eyes meeting hers. Her fingers were pressed against a waistcoat, the edges of darker blue lapels. She gasped. “Y-yes. Sorry! Um, hi.”
He smiled, and her stomach flipped. “Hi. Where are you headed to in such a rush?”
“I’m looking for Mia Fey’s desk. Are you an attorney too?” The sunflower badge hadn’t escaped her attention.
“I am. Do you have a case for Ms. Fey? She’s fantastic to work with.”
Handsome, nice, and complimentary of her sister? Maya was absolutely gone. “Actually-”
“Maya?” The other elevator opened, and her sister strode out, heels clicking on the linoleum. Her surprised expression flitted from Maya to the stranger, and in an instant, they both remembered to let go of each other. “I see you’ve met Wright. Er, Mr. Wright.”
He flinched, rubbing the back of his neck. His left hand was completely bare. “Just call me Phoenix. Otherwise, it makes me sound like an old man.”
“Well, you’re four years older than me.” Mia countered, while Maya tried not to blush. Oh, so he was fourteen years older than Maya. She suspected he was older; still, it didn’t diminish her impression of him. “Wright, this is my sister, Maya. And oh, my goodness. It must have slipped my mind. Thank you for bringing my lunch bag, but you didn’t have to come all this way.”
“I wanted to!” And she was incredibly happy she did, she thought, sneaking a glance at Phoenix.
“This is the second time you’re here to bring food, we should pay you back somehow.”
“Second?” Phoenix pointed out.
“The first was when you were out sick.”
“Shame I keep missing out then.”
“I can make you something!” Maya blurted.
“Oh, I didn’t mean to imply.” He hastily said.
“I’m not doing much other than spiritual training. Any special requests?”
The aroma of black coffee accompanied the interruption. “This guy? He’ll swallow anything.” Maya turned to see Diego, who grinned at her and then greeted Mia with a kiss on the cheek.
Phoenix rolled his eyes. “Yeah, that was a long time ago. Anyway, I’m not picky. And I’ll have a surprise in return, Maya.” And if saying her name wasn’t enough, he had to wink.
That scene replayed over and over, as she raced back to the apartment. Her whole body was on fire, courtesy of Phoenix Wright. She had to give this her best shot.
Little did she know, she’d meet him again in far more precarious circumstances.
***
Maya pressed her hand against the glass, watching as Mia’s lifted to do the same. It felt cold, no trace of her sister’s warmth. “Sis…”
“It’ll be okay, Maya.” The brave smile wavered. “I’m no stranger to court, after all.”
“But you’re the defendant! And I know you’re not guilty.” She refused to believe it. Her strong and benevolent big sister, murdering Mr. Grossberg? Never. Even if Mia was the last person to visit him, that couldn’t be the full story.
Mia took a breath. “Thank you, Maya. How’s Diego?”
“Really upset. He broke three cups, when he got the letter that he can’t defend you.”
“Conflict of interest, because Grossberg knew we were dating. So, that’s why I’m asking you, Wright.” She turned to the chair next to Maya’s.
He looked very grave. “Of course, I’ll represent you. I’m investigating as soon as I leave here.”
Maya then asked. “Can I come with you?”
Phoenix hesitated, but Mia nodded. “I think that’s a good idea. I believe in both of you.”
With that, Phoenix caved, and he held the door open for Maya as they walked out. “Let’s start at Grossberg’s office.”
They followed the trail to a statue of the Thinker, which Phoenix sighed at, and a wiretap to the Gatewater Hotel. In the cold lobby, he shrugged off his jacket and draped it over her. Maya had to close her mouth, and she felt irrationally jealous of the secretary obviously flirting with him. She wasn’t sure if she was that helpful, but Phoenix insisted she was.
“You have a good eye for things out of place, and you’re certainly faster than I am. I could use some of your energy.” He snapped his wooden chopsticks, stirring his bowl.
She thought of a few ways to transfer that energy to him, but instead, she casually said. “Miso ramen is the biggest energy boost. And I could have paid for my share.”
“Nope, I can’t let you, when I have my name up on a sign.” He dryly said and she laughed. His smile deepened. “Diego would probably throw his coffee at me, not to mention Mia’s wrath.”
“Mia doesn’t get angry that often, even if I deserved it. I definitely gave her trouble.” Now that she was twenty-one, she cringed at her early years.
“Oh, really? You could have fooled me.”
“Once, I broke a precious family heirloom and she took the blame.”
Their conversation turned to small talk, about the village where she and Mia came from, and how he studied art before a late switch to law. Almost like a date. Her heart fluttered at the thought. Interacting more only served to deepen her fondness of him. He was funny and sarcastic, but mature and patient too. He was older, but he didn’t lord it over her. He treated her like an equal, like a partner. She liked that about him.
And then, the court date arrived. Maya had never seen a trial before, and despite the nerves and stress, she soon understood why Mia loved her job. The evidence was brought out, analyzed with the witness testimony, and contradictions were found. It was also exciting to watch Phoenix at work, as he slammed his hands on the desk and confidently proclaimed objections. It was like he was dueling the prosecutor, whose initial composure was cracking. She studied Phoenix’s frown, his tilted smirk, his thoughtful look as he cupped his chin. In the crowd of spectators, she caught Diego’s raised eyebrow and attempted to curb her frequent stares.
After hours of proceedings, the man from Bluecorp finally confessed. Grossberg could no longer withstand the years of shame and planned to incriminate the CEO for blackmailing him; it was a fatal mistake to reveal it, but justice would be delivered. The judge’s gavel swung and Mia Fey was declared not guilty.
Confetti rained down, and Maya cried out, her voice breaking. “We did it!”
Phoenix echoed her. “We did it!” He hugged her, lifting her off the ground. And as he set her on her feet, his eyes crinkling in joy, she knew.
She was in love.

Same. Well... not romantic & most definitely not sexual, at least, they aren't supposed to, which might be the point to those who don't ship them calling them "sibling coded" to begin with.
Especially in cases where the characters in question have yet to literally make out on screen or outright say that they are together in a romantic/sexual sense.
Good gracious, I literally came across a post that declared, rather confidently in fact, that "there was a platonic explanation for everything," & my brain sort of short-circuited as dang near every confirmed romantic relationship in both media & real life flashed through my head like a dang rolladex.
Like, "okay... explain Romeo & Juliet," "explain nearly 75% of the married couples known to man," "explain couples that literally say up front that they are together romantically a/o sexually!"
Like, ugh! I get it! You don't freaking ship it! That doesn't mean that it's okay to make those who do ship it feel like they're doing something wrong by shipping it!
There is a very select list of romantic ships that someone should feel bad for & they are generally the sorts of relationships that would get someone arrested in real life! Or, at the very least, sent to the damn nuthouse!
Like, dude! By doing that, you're invalidating the life choices of those who choose to get into those sorts of relationships!
Honestly, what does sibling coding actually MEAN?  Ignore the misuse of coding for a second.  You tell me they are sibling coded and I learn absolutely nothing about their relationship
If they are friends and get along too well, they are sibling coded.   If they bicker/fight, they are sibling coded.  Clearly resent each other over something? Ya guessed it sibling coded.
Maybe the reason there is no consistant set of ‘sibling coded behavior’ is because IRL siblings can have any relationship dynamic.

I think every Ace Attorney artist who doesn’t think Narumayo is the spawn of Satan should make one piece of Narumayo fan art, for two important reasons:
It’ll scare off all those weirdo antis who think hating ships is a way to stay morally pure
It’ll make me, a Narumayo shipper, happy
Just a suggestion .

Maya is too infantilized
Because whenever people talk about her, people treat her as if her personality were just hamburgers and steel samurai, but in reality she is one of the most mature characters there is, but they treat her as if she were a child because she has a happy and playful personality but that is part of her maturity because she must take care of Pearl and support Nick, for me there are two reasons, one is that people believe that a mature person is someone who is serious and bitter all the time, two because the antis want an excuse to hate some of their ships, especially the narumayo (they just have to say I don't like it and that's it but :p), others say it's because of sexism but I'm not very knowledgeable about those issues

NaruMayo from Ace Attorney. Everyone can see it in canon and how can they not? Phoenix will literally drop everything to help her out, including flying to another country because she screamed over the phone. Oh and nearly abandoning everything he stood for because of two separate hostage situations 11 years apart because it was made clear that nothing comes before her. And oh yeah, did I mention the bridge incident and risking execution in Khura'in for her?
Oh and on Maya's end? Well putting aside multiple times it's heavily implied that she has a crush on him, there's the fact that she told Phoenix not to defend her in Khura'in because she knew he'd be executed if he lost. And the fact that he is the only person she doesn't have to be strong for and who lets her be herself.
And everyone else? Dahlia outright asked if Maya was Phoenix's girlfriend, there is an in-universe shipper, and finding out about the hostage situation made both Apollo and Athena drop all of their frustration at Phoenix in 6-5 because they knew how much Maya meant to him, and he completely turned on them so that's saying a lot given Apollo's abandonment and trust issues.
There's a reason the antis hate NaruMayo so much. Because it's basically canon at this point and it ruins their silly "gay lawyer game."
Trope of the day is... realizing they've basically been in a relationship for a while now.
Perfect for that married couple in the friendgroup that isn't actually a couple yet. They often find out about it because more and more people act confused when they say they're not actually a couple. Even people they've known for years think they've been dating all along.

Pearl Fey for the character ask game!!
Gladly, I love Pearl 💞
One aspect about them I love
I love her tenacity and optimism despite everything! She’s such a resilient kid 💞
One aspect I wish more people understood about them
As I said above, she’s a resilient kid…but she’s not stupid, just young (we only really see her as a little kid; she only briefly appears as a teen in DD). I’m sure on some level she’s aware of what went on in her family…it just took her years to realize how awful it really was.
One (or more) headcanon(s) I have about this character
Despite everything that happened…she still loves her mom and misses her. And she feels horrible about it, so she never tells anyone. She knows Morgan was a horrible person, but…she was still her mom. How much of that love was real? How does Pearl square that with the way Morgan has hurt everyone Pearl loves?
One character I love seeing them interact with
Phoenix and Maya 💞
One character I wish they would interact with/interact with more
Iris tbh. I wanna know what her and Pearl’s dynamic was like, especially post-AA3! Also Trucy—I’d love to see what that friendship is like, given how close they are in age.
One (or more) headcanon(s) I have that involve them and one other character
Pearl went through a similar crisis as Maya during her teen years, feeling like she wanted to leave the Fey family and cut ties with it. In Maya’s case, she felt like she had to keep going anyway, because of her promise to Mia…but with Pearl, she makes a different choice. She encourages Pearl to take her time, go out and see the world, and not decide anything about becoming the Master until she’s 18.
I also headcanon that her shipping Phoenix and Maya is short-lived, and as she grows older and is exposed to more healthy relationships of all kinds, she realizes that Phoenix and Maya never had anything romantic between them and is a bit embarrassed about shipping them 😂

Is it just me or does it seem that in some Ace Attorney Ship Discourse certain fans tend to utilize the Found Family Headcanons BEFORE the age gaps even though the latter have a better (albeit not perfect and can still get dumb) leg to stand on? I’ve seen a few people who respond to Narumayo, Ryuususa, or Cykesquill with “they’re siblings!” or to KayxEdgeworth, Sebastian/EustacexEdgeworth, or ApolloxPhoenix with “he’s their dad!” BEFORE talking about the age gaps? Not saying all or even the majority of antis do this (because duh it doesn’t take much looking around to see a lot of them preach against the age gaps), but a noticeable amount seem to, which is weird because the age gaps are indisputable canon but the family dynamics are not (they’re not even secondary canon in the same way as Edgeworth and Franziska being adoptive siblings). No problem if you do like the found family headcanons (or else I’d be a hypocrite bc I do agree with seeing some ships I listed as family) but maybe don’t bring them into your anti shipping arguments before the canon stuff?

tht post... i mean, all the replies are like "yes this is because of the DIABOLICAL PURITEEN ANTIS" but even for relatively uncontroversial ships, they're pushed down, bc there's an insistence on ""Canon Ships"" and also gay ones lol
like narumitsu -> langworth. krisnix doesnt suffer this problem as ive seen but maybe im wrong. but even when ppl are allowed to ship either of those, there's an implication that it's only okay for the 7 yr gap, until phoenix and edgeworth Both Realize that they were MEANT to love each other, bc narumitsu is the ultimate ship. which is crazy. Cus like what if you just don't gaf about narumitsu.....
or klapollo lol. god forbid you ship claypollo. THOUGH again this might be less of a problem. i do distinctly remember ppl saying childhood best friends were sibling coded so you cannot ship. which is Puriteen Nonsense but im pretty sure just comes from "klapollo is the Ultimate Ship you cant ship anything else".
it makes sense to me ppl not rly rocking with narumayo or justicykes or wtfever because weird little age gaps like that arent In right now... gumworth i think has that problem too but it also has a few really good artists drawing for it which makes it acceptable Also it isnt straight lol
shit like miego and klema/skyemadhi suffer bc they are m/f and therefore Illegal. this is something i'm guilty of too but again this isnt rly a STINKY PURITEEN thing because m/f ships arent a crime, theyre just like, unpopular rn. still i can recognize it as being unjustified. miego esp is like, a key part of mia's story, if you're into exploring that thing... which is why the only miego content i see nowadays is From ppl who respect mia and want to explore her character. cool!
...but really, the truth is that this "popular opinion only" thing extends past ships. god forbid you enjoy dual destinies or spirit of justice bro youre told theyre the worst games that arent worth playing at all and u really should only like the Good and Perfect trilogy/tgaa (SHOT FOR MAKING EVERYTHING ABT SOJ) But like!! it's the same trend! "these are the popular opinions so you have to agree with them, on some level, or else you can't Play With Us." IT'S SO WEIRDDDD WHEN WILL IT END BRO

9.) 10.) For DR and Ace Attorney
9.) The three worst things about the source material
The fact that trials are the same amount of days every time, when varying it would make things much more unpredictable.
Phoenix and Edgeworth are hogging all of the character development and plot relevance.
It rarely bothers to go into the fallout of events, making the world feel episodic.
10.) The three worst things about the fandom
It is too obsessed with the idea of Narumitsu and their 20 adopted children. If you want to like stuff I find boring, be my guest, but dear god this fandom needs some variety.
It insists on bringing a Western lense to what is fundamentally a critique of the Japanese court system. Always rubs me the wrong way. Its most obvious in Narumayo antis, but its an unpleasant undercurrent throughout.
A lot of female characters get overlooked in favor of the male ones. Not even a feminist thing, I'm just very gay and would like more shit with Franziska Von Karma.

Fandom hot take: narumayo isnt as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I personally dislike it as a ship but its not like the people who do ship it are some ultimate evil like everyone seems to think
Strongly agree | Agree | Neutral | Disagree | Strongly disagree Very much this!! It's just a ship, it has just as much food as Narumitsu or Gumworth, and honestly, I see why people like it a lot! They have a close bond with each other, they have great banter, and they look pretty together!! It's not something I personally ship, I fell very deeply into Narumitsu hell when I first got into the fandom lol, and I did answer an ask about why I don't like Narumayo like I do Ryuususa. The vibes just didn't hit, and I did used to be (Very cringe-ily) anti-Narumayo, but now I'm older and more mature! Just because someone doesn't ship your ship, or even, GASP!! ship the rival ship, it doesn't mean they're out to get you or they're some kind of bigot or whatever. And before anyone pops in with "well there ARE homophobic shippers", yeah, and there's assholes who will literally harass people for mashing the wrong anime characters together, there are assholes who act like just because their ship is the fandom darling, that means that it's canon. Rock, meet glass house. Either way, I block both the homophobes AND the assholes!
