I just felt like making an official "mea culpa" post for Kazushige Nojima.
For years, I have been on this man's case for the way that KH2's Scenario turned out: a good story that got placed in the creakiest, wobbliest frame imaginable, which is in stark contrast to how solidly KH1 and CoM's scenarios held together. And let's make this clear: he is not in any way blameless for the flaws in KH2's Scenario; this fact still holds true. But with that said....
He is absolutely the least at fault between him, Masaru Oka and Tetsuya Nomura.
Did he not represent Nomura's Base Story and concept the best he could have, and frequently mischaracterize Sora, Riku and Kairi? Yes. But the bigger fault here lies with Nomura being terrible at communication, something that is consistent whether it be with his own employees, his higher-ups, interviewers, and even the audience. Hell, he's admitted that even he can't keep his own shit straight in his own head! So how could Nojima realistically be expected to turn out a flawless Scenario according to Nomura's desires when Nomura's desires are so convoluted yet vaguely expressed that Nojima reasonably has no idea what the Hell he's even talking about? As I recall once bringing up before, Nomura couldn't even convey how the central threat of Xemnas manifesting Kingdom Hearts worked, so having it be a large moon in the sky ala KH1's cover art was Nojima's idea of how to make it work. Similarly, as an artist by trade who cares the most about aesthetics, Nomura doubtlessly only had Sora, Riku and Kairi described in the most basic of ways with their most surface level traits, leading Nojima to default on writing them like previous characters he's written that share those traits (Tidus, Cloud and Rinoa respectively) rather than as fully organic continuations as to who they were in KH1. And hey, at least they still felt mostly like themselves anyway due to Daisuke Watanabe being on hand to help in the Scenario construction (the part before dialogue is scripted). So I can excuse Nojima on all this.
Then there's the Disney worlds. I'm disappointed Nojima couldn't find a way to link all of the world visits' stories closer to the main plot, but the onus for this still largely lies with Oka, as he could have made all of the world visits' stories linked to the main plot to start with and he didn't. Furthermore, Nojima honestly did the best he could with the several lackluster revisits. His dialogue, character writing and battle staging honestly helped them be far more tolerable than they would have been otherwise based solely on Oka's plotting. There are some great moments in these revisits that only exist thanks to Nojima, and he deserves credit for that.
Even Nojima's three biggest blunders aren't wholly his fault. Yeah, his Cloud/Sephiroth/Tifa story arc sucked and always would have since he was just writing it to promote Advent Children than advance anything in the KH universe, but it might have been better had Nomura not edited it into being vaguer and having less input from Sora, Donald and Goofy.
Yeah, him neglecting to provide a proper reason why the world revisits happen instead of just rushing to Twilight Town to follow up on the clues Riku left behind is stupid, but Nomura clearly caught this error and instead of having it corrected through gameplay in the most obvious way - the Dreadnought fleet blocking Twilight Town off right away with no way to engage it until the Space Paranoids revisit - he put in these dumb sequences of Chip and Dale claiming Sora going around helping people in revisits makes a scan reading of the Organization's base and its connection to Twilight Town more visible even when once the main story resumes this never gets brought up and the heroes act like they're here due to Riku's clues. Nomura is the game's director, so the buck ultimately stops with him here.
And yeah, him giving so many "Telling, Not Showing" scenes, particularly at the midpoint of the game and in a way that shafts certain character arcs like Ansem the Wise's, is bad, but not only could Oka have tried to make these scenes more engaging through his event direction and he simply didn't (a problem he will continue to have across the whole series), but remember that Daisuke Watanabe and Harunori Sakemi were helping construct the rough draft of the Scenario before it became a full-on script. Why couldn't they have done something about it? So then why couldn't they have given Ansem the Wise more scenes where we get to see his change transpire? And again, Nomura is the director. He edited out a lot in the Cloud/Sephiroth/Tifa story arc. Why didn't he make the requisite edits to all the clunkily written expository scenes? Nojima screwed up because everyone allowed him to!
Lastly, the net positives he provided outweigh the negatives. The character dialogue and interactions; the intentional humor, heart and dramatic weight; the game's universe feeling like a cohesive whole; the superbly staged boss battles; and all sorts of little things like the thematic connections he weaves between all the worlds even if they aren't plot-relevant, the small moments that say so much without saying much at all like the scenes with Roxas and Sora involving the Twilight Town train, and the incredibly precise choice of words that will hit hard emotionally like "You're home" being what we close on before the credits....it's fantastic.
Thank you, Nojima-san. You were never the best...but you were never the worst, either.

Days, BBS and, yes, even KH3 are the only games past the original three that I can say I like even if I cannot love them (I enjoyed UX too at first, but we all know the tragedy that befell that title), but while KH3 is the most obvious in what impediments there are to my enjoyment, in many ways Days and BBS are more sinister because as the above post said they do matter to the original three games’ storyline and by all accounts should be nearly on par with them, especially BBS. But the writing and execution of their ideas ended up being so damaging to the series as a whole, all because in addition to his own problems Nomura decided that he should actually take Tomoko Kanemaki’s bullshit into consideration and that he ought to promote Masaru Oka to script writer respectively. Days is somewhat more excusable all things considered (we got a great manga out of it!); if it was left well enough alone it could be viewed in a much better light. But as soon as BBS failed to deliver on all that it should have been, the KH series’ fate was sealed.
….And then re-sealed with Versus XIII’s failure.
…..And possibly re-re-sealed after KH4’s announcement in 2022. What a mess!
These tweets just warm my heart. <3

So, some things about the blog's and AU ✨ Lore ✨:
Tagiru might be too used to call Daisuke by "Lance-san" and even separate him from Mysterious Hunter. Except all of them are the same person.
Daisuke doesn't mind Tagiru calling him by "Lance-san", but the others like Taichi and Takato don't understand it first but a quick explanation made them just go like "ah"
That said, Taiki (and Yuu) might be also used to call him by "Lance-san" before the reveal, so those two actually call Daisuke by his real name plus -san honorific.
The only Legend Hero Tagiru did not face, besides Daisuke, is Masaru. Who faced him was actually Kiriha. However, Tagiru has a big fear of Masaru, he's very intimidated by Masaru. Masaru himself doesn't get it though. Tagiru might have a huge respect for him despite this btw.
If Daisuke is the "responsible mentor", the anti-Daisuke in this whole AU and blog is Takuya -- who just enjoys chaos and messing things up for fun. But he won't go that far either, there's a limit for what Takuya do and doesn't do. But he likes to tease Daisuke by teaching "wrong things" to Tagiru.
Despite everything, Takato is chill and only drops the nice façade if you REALLY piss him off. Which means Takuya has some interesting ways to convince him to blackmail Daisuke for fun. But they all are friends, especially Takato and Daisuke, and Daisuke and Takuya.
Masaru doesn't talk much here, but he's quite seen as someone wise, with tons of philosophy to teach them. But even the wise man can be clueless and be stupid. It's just it doesn't come all the time like happens to OG!Taichi, who is glorified by both Daisuke and Takato.
reboot Taichi is way more pragmatic and chill than the original Taichi, so they kinda break Daisuke and Takato's minds.
Fortunately, Takuya cannot spirit evolve anymore once the main story of the AU ended. Trust me, this is a good thing.
Daisuke and Takuya are "friend-rivals" but the rivalry part only shows when they're doing stupid competitions. Luckily they never tried something too dangerous that could end up this badly because Takato intervenes.
Taiki might be all smart and all, but he's quite clueless and has random toku trivia -- especially Rider. He tends to borrow Shoutmon King's scarf just for the looks too.
Haru likes them all, but feels overwhelmed with most of them. Hiro just shrugs and goes with the flow. r!Taichi is nice with everyone, but sometimes he can say some... stupid cheesy things that could make everyone else lost their sheet.
Not AU related, but i'm still not sure how to introduce the post-XW characters into the Lore/plot.

Now Watch Me Flip the Script
read it on AO3 at https://ift.tt/GlO9Ici by RoseWaterTears What happens when Bakugou continues to get disregarded and even shamed for how he is? What happens when the baku-squad all come forward with bullshit and trauma they've had to deal with in life, all the incidents that led them to see the gross vileness in the world? They decide to branch off from UA and hero society to enact their own justice. ~~~~~ When Bakugou got kidnapped their first year, it was absolute Hell, and yet, possibly one of the best things that had ever happened to him. Sure, dealing with that stank breath Dabi was not a walk in the park, nor did he appreciate the knife play that the twin bun bitch wanted to do with him. But they actually took the muzzle off of him when he wanted them to, despite knowing how foul-mouthed he was. Not like at the sports festival where he was chained and made to shut his mouth like a rabid animal. And during the time he was gone, tucked away in some damp and musty basement, he had a lot of time to think. Why the fuck the villain group that took him from ‘safety’ treating him better than the heroes that were supposed to help him for a better future? Two plus two ain’t equaling four. Finished chapter one! Am actually very much enjoying UDG, even though I'd heard bad things!
It's possible that's because this fits a bit more in my general game play style than the main games do?
But also Toko and Komaru bickering like and old married couple is fantastic, and while I don't enjoy Toko's fantasies, I expect Byakuya's VA had a LOT of fun voicing some of them.
Meanwhile I feel bad for Masaru. I hope he's not actually dead dead. I don't think he is. But, you know, it's Danganronpa. They're probably okay with dead kids.
(Except I think all the kids come back at the end? And other than Monaca they become, like, anti-heroes or something? Maybe? I don't remember much about UDG. I remember the kinds of abuse two of the other kids have. And also Monaca twist. And separate from that I still don't like her, UGH I do NOT like Monaca. Anyway.)
I'm enjoying this significantly more than I thought I would, actually, is the take away here!
....
Also I'm sad I couldn't make the super huge sentai robot dance. ://
#musings#bandit liveblogs#bandit liveblogs danganronpa#that's one of my go-tos#make the monokuma dance#then take my time and shoot it in the eye!#also i think i did pretty well with komaru in the boss fight!#but reached a point where i couldn't get the ground to avoid attacks or make shots#so i switched to jack and decimated!#:D#jack's playstyle is so much easier than komaru's#but...the dance bullet

Saw an interesting post about Dark Evolution in Digimon, and i may clarify one thing before people think i'm totally against this concept:
What i'm tired of is people claiming this plot device is obligatory to develop a character and if they don't have one they're flat/boring.
One thing is explore that concept and write analysis of each of those scenarios, another is have people claiming Daisuke sucks because he never dark evolved V-mon.
To me, Dark Evolution is a method of punishment for messing up with negative feelings. Daisuke *never* had negative feelings, so this is why he never dark evolved V-mon before.
Also, Taiki and Tagiru never did it either. And i don't think Takuya himself had something like that -- I don't consider Flamemon a "dark evolution" but more like another kind of punishment, and him having no control over Vritramon was something he wasn't expecting to.
I know everyone likes to talk about Taichi, Takato and Masaru cases in order to belittle Daisuke, Taiki and Tagiru, but i hope people stopped reducing this concept into "dark evolution means your character gets development" ??
If anything, Gulus is another view of this concept and i don't think it's a "punishment" for Hiro -- but rather a challenge for him to try to tame this anti-hero-anti-villain form of Gammamon.
※ Before anyone ask me about Daisuke's development and all -- please check these metas Shiha wrote, because they explain my point better than me.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon -3-
After getting my ass thoroughly whooped, it's off to the grind at Sotenbori Arena before we give Majima that work.
Okay, so Majima kicked my ass last time. But this time will be different! For one, I made it to the very end of the Sotenbori Arena. My average party level is now 45. I read suggestions from others to get as close to 50 as possible, but I figured I might as well try at level 45 to start.
I started off with Nanba, Joon-gi, and Eri in my party. After fiddling around, I found that Majima seemed weak to fire, so I let Nanba and Eri burn him hard while I let Joon-gi burn through his MP with a variety of skills.
Soon, Majima sent out his Doppelgängers. I knew from the previous attempt that these were the most dangerous part of the fight, so I started busting out some Poundmates and, of course, Essence of Orbital Laser to make short work of them. With Majima by himself, I started busting out some essence skills. I swapped out the MP-less Joon-gi with Zhao and used Essence of Human Grating, a skill that gave me massive ick but helped whittle Majima down to a little under 50% health. Little did I know that getting Majima's health down to about 50% led to an even nastier surprise...
Now it's a double battle. Majima is much less of a threat compared to this guy. He hit like a truck and even took out the majority of Ichi's health with every special move used. This is where the fight started to really drag out. I used pretty much every healing item at my disposal as things just started getting dicey.
They even have a bullshit special move that I'm preeeeetty sure might actually have been an instant kill move, but thankfully Ichiban was resistant to it? Still, this cutscene scared the hell out of me when I got it.
Thankfully, I had enough Taurinier and fire/ice skills to make short work of these two. The real challenge was just making sure I kept my HP and MP up. What was once a formidable obstacle is now just a stepping stone to the next story beat. I just wish the rest of the bosses up until this point were as challenging as this fight was.
Sweet, sweet victory.
Just as Majima and Saejima prep for round two, I get a visit from Arakawa and -- much to the party's surprise -- Daigo Dojima, the sixth chairman of the Tojo Clan. They call for a stop to the violence, much to Majima's disgust.
Arakawa and Dojima invite Ichi and his crew into the Dragon Chamber, where they outline their grand master plan: apparently, Arakawa's grand betrayal of the Tojo clan was devised by Dojima himself. After taking office, Masato began blackmailing his own father into selling him Tojo secrets; Masumi, in turn, went to Dojima for help. Dojima and the Omi Alliance chair, Masaru Watase, saw Aoki's implementation of the Kamurocho 3K plan as a major threat to the Yakuza way of life; the anti-yakuza laws were so broad and open-ended that it threatened to make the Tojo -- and eventually, the Omi -- slaves of the state. Rather than allowing this to happen, Watase and Dojima agreed to a plan that would allow the Omi and the Tojo to disband relatively amicably: have Arakawa sell out the Tojo clan to his son in exchange for allowing the Omi Alliance unfettered access to Kamurocho. This would force the Tojo clan to go underground while also spreading the Omi thinly between Tokyo and Kansai. With Watase's release from prison, both he and Dojima can now formalize the dissolution of the two clans without major blowback from either organization -- both would simply be too decentralized to seriously fight back.
But for the plan to succeed, allies are needed to quell any potential rebellion -- Majima and Saejima being some of them. Arakawa, on the other hand, put into motion a series of events that would allow for Ichiban to see the true threat to the yakuza and become a potent ally for him. Determined to help the man who saved his life, Ichiban agrees to help.
The next day, Watase arrives at the Omi Alliance HQ and formally announces the dissolution of the Omi Alliance alongside Dojima's dissolution of the Tojo Clan. Several members of the Omi Alliance, recognizing that they have been sold out, begin to revolt. Thankfully, Ichiban and his friends are here to stop them.
They succeed, but a lone yakuza attempts to take Watase's life on stage. However, he is quickly stopped by a familiar figure...
Sex incarnate, to be honest.
Anyway, Ichiban finally collapses under the weight of all the yakuza members he fought. Dojima leaves with Watase, Majima, and Saejima. Kiryu follows close behind, but not before giving some encouraging words to Ichiban. Arakawa thanks Ichiban for everything he's done.
And with that, the Omi Alliance is officially dissolved.
The next day, we learn that Nick Ogata was the one who gave protection to the Dojima family -- including Majima and Saejima -- after the collapse of the Tojo clan. Nick congratulates Ichi for reuniting with Masumi, and asks that Ichi tell Nick all about how his "date" with Masumi goes that night.
Ichi meets with Masumi, now just an ordinary man. But Masumi apologizes to Ichi, stating that Chairman Hoshino made plans with him as well. Ichiban understands, but as Masumi leaves, he asks to be considered part of the Arakawa family again. Masumi breaks down, and wonders why Ichiban continues to believe in him after everything that has happened. Masumi then admits that he sometimes dreams that it was Masato who was born in the soapland, rather than Ichiban. Acknowledging Ichi's loyalty, he bids Ichiban farewell and tells him that he will see him tomorrow.
But unfortunately for Masumi Arakawa, it seems tomorrow will never come.

dream of sand & fish town, & then mechanical underground
in my dream i was visiting masaru fisherman? ik his english is bad but in the dream he was fine at speaking it he just refused to talk to me. so it was awkward. I was just around in a house.
first the surrounding area was like a nice beach, and then it was more like a somewhat flooded strange connection of sandy isles. unique & dangerous fish came out at night.
there was also a large half destroyed historical church thing on one of the aisles that only appeared at night. it wasn't blocked off by anything so I wanted to check it out. I squeezed through the front door & then lay on my back to push under some rubble & then got up. there was a huge upside down pyramid in the center of the church & everything was all brambly and overgrown. the windows were gorgeous and still intact. for some reason there was a crowd of people looking at the church and my parents were in there, so I waved at them through the window & they waved back. I climbed up to the second story winfoe & waved again, & then saw my sister followed me in. she's not as good at randomly climbing and exploring shit so I was worried she'd pull the vine down if she wasn't careful. we exited the church without incident.
now there was a huge ice storm. masaru's house sustained damage. he complained about it to some old man that was there. every building and thing above the water was encrusted in ice.
then awake/reset. I was now in the same area with all the water drained, & with a group of people . I was riding a weird bike (I don't know how to ride a bike) & there was also a guy using a weird cane that had eight spindly tips and seemrd to autoaim. it moved like it was alive.
we were hungry, so we went to this restaurant that used to float above the water but now just awkwardly lay at a just a bit of an angle on the sandy & waterless seafloor. the stairs even though not covered in ice this time we're still extremely narrow and slippery. the indoors was really nice though. they had all you could eat little desserts. suddenly the people I was with was the table of friends I sat with in highschool. we perused the menu. I wanted to order the mini red jellos.
then a scene shift: it started as some sort of infiltration arc in an RPG - my sister & I were sneaking into some anti-nature area among thr prisoners. the guard was very friendly & believed my sister when she said she was afraid of the sound of rain, so she used it to keep "hiding" in otherwise offlinits places. eventually we split up & I found orange colored seeds to plant in the mechanical basement the trees would grow and choke out their movements.
I made a run to go and plant one, but a guard saw me and followed me to the uppermost lobby area, which was actually a functional airport. all the travellers were quarantined away from where is prisoners were, and there was a door leading out that I could look through wistfuly - normal people normal city normal life, but as long as we had these bracelets on we'd get blown up walking through there.
the guard caught up to me. I told him I was just missing outside, and he was surprisingly understanding about it. the airplane PA was giving someautomated speech about "watch out for hostages" & the guard got distracted so I made eye contact with a random traveler & tried to gesture/convey that we were in trouble.
then there was some kind of play? entertainment? thing. we all sat in an auditorium. my sister was there again & so was some overly touchy feely guy that I'd known a little in high school . there were 6 people up there & they each handed out their business cards & a folder rod information & then started putting on a show! it was pretty entertaining tbh but I got distracted by discovering some secrets - if you flipped to a secret page and inserted the green [Simon] business card, it opened up & (i dont remember) came out. obenof the ladies intbhr show (she was very pretty with curly hair) gave me yhat hint.
then we were on a school bus driving through a bland and sunny neighborhood. the only people I saw were some 6 year olds walking home from the pool dripping wet. at some point, the annoying guy from before got off the bus, & my sister & I followed him bc one of the next secrets from their performance was actually inside his house. or we wanted to practice the reality opening skill and see if there were closed secrets in his house. which there was one - a room with a loft bed & some other furniture & sky blue walls, & along one of the wooden posts was written some more runes we deciphered and pulled out as ???? . then I got hungry and woke up

The more I hear about Hope’s Peak history, the more Anti Hope’s Peak I become!
So... given what we just learn here, are you going to give this to Kyoko?
Yeah, as say - this is connected to Hope's Peak and have Masa look more into Yoshikage Gokuhara as this seems really important.
So is that it Monaca, is that all you can offer us?
———————————————————————
Monaca suppose so, as say - the police force really did fail to save not just Masaru but a lot of us if you ask Monaca's opinion.
The police often do ignore family issue in Japan as they are consider 'personal family matters' and the police mostly have to stay out of it unless it leads to the kid going to the hospital or they are dead.
———————————————————————
Seems the police really did fail them, I do wonder who else they fail here...
———————————————————————
Monaca doesn't know but if Monaca can have your attention, I like to give you the new password...
Here it is, bye bye~!
PASSWORD: 1912
———————————————————————
Well... seems we got what we need, I'll be sure to email this to Kyoko and then keep an eye on Monaca.
But let's get to breakfast, I'm pretty hungry right now.
Yeah c'mon Toko, let's get going!
Yeah let's go...
*the 3 walk out which Hitaru steps back*
...(The... The police were corrupted all along...? This... this would explain why mother and father got away with what they did...)
(...I need to call Jiro after this.)
Huh? Hitaru, what are you doing here...?
O-Oh uh... Sorry...!
Breakfast is about to be ready, do you 3 want to come down?
Oh sure, thank you - I feel I need some breakfast Miss Nijiue.
...
Hm? Is something the matter Sunako?
Nothing... let's just get some breakfast...
Very good, let's get going then!
*the 4 go downstairs for breakfast...*

Yasue Erikawa: An Often Unrecognized Asset
The Unification Church had become a liaison between imperialist powers (USA, Japan), crime syndicates with similar political goals (Korean mob, yakuza, drug traffickers, etc.), and right-wing dictatorships (Marcos, Chun, Pinochet, etc.), and their intelligence agencies, since near its inception. Many of its top leaders are implicated in conscious participation in these clandestine and often illegal activities. Yasue Erikawa is no exception. Erikawa-san’s leadership in the Sanctuary Movement should not be understated, and is further proof of their embedding with both Japanese and US intelligence. Erikawa is said to have been one of the key liaison between the Japanese Moonies and Japanese intelligence/government. Others had played similar roles to some degree, such as Sang Ik Choi (Papasan Choi, Masaru Nishikawa), Osami Kuboki, Yeon-Soo Lim (Onni Durst), Takeru Kamiyama, etc.
Fumiko Ikeda (池田文子) is otherwise known as Yasue Erikawa (江利川安栄), has been called a feminist activist, as she led UC campaigns of Japanese women repenting on behalf of imperialist Japan’s crimes against Korean women. These actions heightened a few years prior to her departure from the FFWPU and entrance into Hyung Jin’s Sanctuary Church movement.
Born in 1946, a graduate of the law department of Chuo University, she became a member of the Unification Church in Japan, and in 1970 she married in the 777 blessing ceremony. Erikawa was active in the International Federation for Victory Over Communism (国際勝共連合 Kokusai Shōkyō Rengō), founded by Reverend Sun Myung Moon in 1968 in the Republic of Korea, often in the orbit of Kodama, Kishi, and Sasakawa. According to Bo Hi Pak during the Frasier Committee hearings, KCIA official Yang Doo Won sent him $3,000 in Washington with a request that he pay the full amount to Erikawa in consideration of travel and other expenses she incurred while speaking at some rallies in South Korea in 1975. She was known for her fiery speaking.
Among the IFVOC’s objectives in Japan was the nullification of the permission the Japanese government had given DPRK-sponsored schools to operate in Japan. Though she has “repented” on behalf of Japan to Korea, her political activities have at times stoked anti-Korean sentiment, veiled as anti-communism.
Erikawa served as the 7th director of the Unification Church in Japan for ten months from 1998 to 1999. She is currently the leader of the Sanctuary Church in Japan.
