ACOTAR Rant
Hot take, Azriel is just as bad as Cassian and Rhysand, it's just that he so happens to be an introvert while Cassian and Rhysand are extroverts.
Just because it's quiet doesn't mean his participation in Nesta and Feyre's abuse is any less impactful.
He didn't tell Feyre about the pregnancy.
He was in active participate in punishing Nesta in the hike from hell by purposefully packing her bag to be as heavy as possible.
When he saw Nesta's bruises from falling down the stairs, he assumed they were from Cassian pushing her and smiled at that.
He was a bystander as Cassian controlled Nesta down to her eating habits.
And I have plenty of reason to believe he was not placed with Cassian as one of Nesta's prison guards to make sure they didn't fuck, he was there to make absolute certain that Cassian did not let Nesta out.
He was just the only one who didn't say anything to her face, therefore he was the only member of the Inner Circle that Nesta could stand to be around. It doesn't make him a better person, he's just as bad as the rest of em.
Azriel started proclaiming his undying love to a woman who had been tortured and was currently sitting on enemy territory.
He regifted something made for a woman he sexually fantasized about and tried to fuck, to an SA survivor.
Azriel is creepy, and weird, and just as horrible as the rest of them, that's why he's Rhysand's friend.
Now, do I obsessively write about him with Eris? Of course I do! I love taking characters with the personality of a upside down goldfish in an empty tank and turning them into the object of my creative desires.
But at the end of the day, he still sucks just as much as the rest of them.

It’s genuinely amusing how Tamlin is painted as the ultimate villain in the narrative, yet before the chaos with Feyre, his entire court was ready to lay down their lives for him. Meanwhile, it’s almost comical that two-thirds of Rhysand’s court, the very individuals he relies on for military support, harbor such animosity toward him that they actively want to see him dead.

(ACOSF, Ch. 42)
I cannot believe that this is a romance novel for a romance-novel-loving character and her love interest blows right past the threat to her (his mate) and thinks only of what she could do for his weapons stash.

Az spent 500 years pining after Mor because he thought she was his mate. She's not.
Then when Feyre and Nesta were mated to Rhysand and Cassian, he thought Elain should be his mate because she's the third sister and he's the third brother. She's not.
Meanwhile, Az's mate - Gwyn - is right there bantering with him, challenging him, teasing him, causing his shadows to sing and dance, and Az is...totally oblivious to it.
I cannot wait for their book because I want to see how long it takes Az before he starts to realize that Gwyn may be his mate 🤣

On today's episode of Does feyre's title hold any weight or is it a toy given to a naive and childish girl meant solely to delude her into believing her own self importance and more importantly keep her on the IC's side.

One of the most annoying things to me about the “poor Cassian he’s just a sad little brute of a warrior and Nesta makes him feel so inferior” arc in ACOSF is that it’s literally ALL CASSIAN’S OWN FAULT. Yes, his early childhood is especially traumatic and unfair but he was taken in by Rhys and his mother young enough (even earlier than Azriel) that he was given far more luxuries than any of the other Illyrians. The timeline is a bit screwy for the bat boys early days but Rhys took power relatively young after the war and Cassian was immediately put into a high ranking position of political power. He has all the money/power/luxuries he could want and also he’s FIVE HUNDRED+ YEARS OLD.
This man is not some poor sad underdog being belittled by a LITERAL TWENTY YEAR OLD WHO SPENT MOST OF HER LIFE IN POVERTY. Even the foil they try to do between him and Eris for sympathy is ridiculous. Yes, Eris is politically strategic, well dressed, knows how to dance and be diplomatic but CASSIAN COULD BE THOSE THINGS TOO and we know that not just because it’s obvious from his standing (which again he’s had for centuries) but because LITERALLY AZRIEL IS.
Azriel is described as the politest one constantly (even better at it than Rhys), Azriel knows how to dance expertly with Nesta (without needing sudden training from Mor), Azriel knows how to handle Eris and general diplomacy and AZRIEL HAD THE SAME UPBRINGING AS CASSIAN IF NOT A WORSE ONE. Again, the weird dichotomy they try to create between Cassian and Nesta about their social standing is ridiculous enough because it misrepresents Nesta but also the victimization of Cassian as if it’s somehow the worlds fault for his behavior and vilifying of people like Eris and Nesta for calling him out on it is insane.

Fandom mentality is strange.
We hear how Amarantha tortured Rhysand under the mountain, about his past and the loss of his family.
We hear how Keir brutalised Morrigan for her choices, how she was shunned and abandoned.
We hear about Cassian’s childhood, what was done to his mother, and how he struggled in the camps before Rhysand’s mother took him in.
We hear about Azriel’s captivity, how his half-brothers tortured him, how he was released into the camps only because of his powers, and how Cassian abused him before he offered help.
We see Tamlin falling in love with Feyre, sacrificing his people and court for her safety and sending her away, watching the woman he loves die, trying to protect her after her rebirth, begging her to not throw herself in danger, making a wrong choice in a moment of weakness. We see Tamlin apologising to Feyre without excuses, trying to do better by involving her in court matters and taking every one of her advice, and finally getting his court destroyed by the woman he gave up everything for.
We see Lucien accepting and growing fond of the mortal girl who killed his friend, willing to die for her when all Amarantha wanted was a name, risking punishment by helping Feyre after the task, be used as a bait in one of the tasks. We see Lucien fighting his friend and saviour and High Lord for the same mortal girl, get sexually assaulted by Feyre in her schemes, be only rescued in the last minute because Feyre hated Ianthe for hurting Rhysand. We see Lucien lose his only friend and home he ever had.
We see how traumatising the days of poverty were. We see Nesta and Elain kidnapped by the fae, thrown into the Cauldron and killed, be dragged into a war by Feyre and her friends, lose their home and lives.
We see Nesta being harassed by her sister to gain alliances in the war, forced to work for the fae, thrown into a battlefield because she has powers that they can exploit. We see Nesta watch her father die in front of her eyes, kill someone for the first time. We see Nesta being preyed upon by a fae/man in her room when she didn’t want to be touched, stalked when she asked to be left alone, locked in a tower with the same man because she was self-sabotaging, forced to train, work and live a life she didn’t want. We see Nesta be coerced by Cassian right after she was sexually assaulted by an ancient creature, almost dying too many times under the Inner Circle’s ‘care’.
Not that the Inner Circle and Feyre don’t deserve the sympathy for their past, they do. But there is a huge disconnect in how trauma is viewed and treated by the fandom. Despite watching it all play out on the pages, the others are said to ‘deserve’ the abuse and mistreatment. If there is more than what meets the eye or in some ways these characters warrant this, shouldn’t the Inner Circle be held to that standard given we only witness how poorly they treat others outside of their little club and betray everyone around them? All we witness is how horrible the Inner Circle is and never once their real plight. Still they get the most empathy and validation.
Like I said, fandom mentality is strange.

Azriel Bonus Chapter- Annotated Part 1
I’ve seen this trend going around so I decided to do it as well. These are my reactions to the first part of Azriel’s bonus chapter 🤭🤭 enjoy 💗
Needless to say, the Elriel buildup for their book is so delicious!

I couldn’t help but cry when Feyre arrived at the Summer Court with Rhysand, and he declared, “She’s High Lady, she can do whatever she wishes.” I mean, yes, Feyre is the High Lady, but she’s the High Lady of the Night Court, and here they are in the Summer Court. The weight of his words, while meant to be empowering, just felt a bit misplaced in that context. And then, Feyre had her moment where she tried to be all girlboss, saying something like, “Take care of your injured.” I wanted to scream, “Shut the hell up!” It felt so out of place, like she was trying too hard to command the room without really understanding the situation.
It was infuriating to think about how Feyre and Rhysand walked into the Summer Court, a court they had literally stolen from, acting as if nothing had happened. The tension was palpable. They’d taken the Book of Breathings right from under Tarquin’s nose, deceiving him in the process, and now they had the audacity to stroll in, expecting him to be okay with it all.
What made it worse was how they completely disregarded anything Tarquin said. He wasn’t just some stranger or enemy; he had once welcomed them as allies, offered them friendship, and they betrayed that trust. And yet, here they were, acting like they were above it all. Rhysand’s casual dismissal of Tarquin’s frustration—like his words didn’t matter, like their betrayal could just be swept under the rug—was a blatant show of arrogance. It was as if they expected him to forget everything, to simply move on, because they were the Night Court and they believed their agenda was more important than anyone else’s.
Even Feyre, with her attempts at diplomacy, came off as condescending. They both acted like they could just walk in, ignore the hurt they caused, and play their power games. It was a slap in the face to everything the Summer Court had stood for. Tarquin had every right to be furious.

There's people who skip ACOFAS because, according to them it's not necessary, but the BC it is. Like wdym? ACOFAS has important information and foreshadowing for ACOSF and future books.
I just know those people are going to be pissed when the next book comes out.

I'm forever angry that Nesta is treated poorly by the Inner Circle and I don’t want to hear excuses like “NeStA wAs s0 sELf DeSTruCtIVe aNd THey WeRe hELpINg hEr.”
Her sister locked her up "for Nesta's own good," even though that same sister knows full well—after spending so much time complaining herself—what it's like to be in the same situation.
Amren, who claimed to be Nesta's friend, preaches to everyone about "keep reaching out your hand," yet abandoned Nesta the moment Nesta acted as rude as Amren always does to everyone else.
Cassian acted like a predator, badgering her until she was too tired to maintain her boundaries.
Mor thought it was a good idea for Nesta to go to CoN and live there, putting her in the same environment Mor herself knows is cruel and dangerous to women.
Rhysand was consistently cruel to Nesta, so threatened by her that he repeatedly endangered her safety, threatened her life, and insisted she work under his supervision.
Azriel was complicit in many of these scenarios.
The only reason Nesta actually got better was because of her friendship with Gwyn and Emerie. It was them. And I don’t want to hear, “WitHOuT rHYs, NeStA wOUldN’t hAvE mEt GwYn AnD eMErIe” because without Rhysand and Feyre’s stupidity and narcissism (they think they’re the only ones who can prevent the war somehow *gag*), Nesta wouldn’t be traumatized by that damn cauldron in the first place and wouldn’t have been in that war. As if she didn’t already have enough unresolved trauma from her childhood.
SJM is just ignorant and hypocritical, too blind to see how toxic the IC is. If by the end of this, Nesta killed Rhys and wiped the IC off the planet, people would hate Nesta so much—but I would applaud Nesta and SJM, because for once, SJM would have done something right for acotar.
