Anyone else had new thoughts on who Crowley was before the ‘fall’ since Season 2 aired…
I know the Raphael theory is still knocking about (actually had a weird epiphany regarding this last night so more of that later) but I think Crowley was an entirely different angel.
From Season 2 we now know he was a very powerful angel indeed (dominion, throne or greater) thanks to his classified document clearance in heaven, but also because of the seriously powerful miracle he and Aziraphale cooked up with very minimal effort.
After an initial idea and since doing some research, I’m leaning towards him being Samael, Angel of Death.
Now I don’t mean Samael as in the one who becomes Lucifer - there are many texts that see these as two separate entities, with Lucifer falling thanks to his pride and Samael… well did he even fall at all?
Samael is one of the Angels of Creation alongside Orifiel, Anael, Zachariah, Raphael, Gabriel and Michael. In Season 2 in episode 1 we see Crowley as an Angel playing a pretty big part in the creation of the cosmos, in collaboration with others.
Samael is the ruler of the Fifth Heaven, which happens to be Earth.
Samael is known as the “Venom of God” and is executioner of death sentences as decreed by God. He is the accuser, seducer and destroyer. As a seducer, Samael tempts humans into committing evil deeds. Through Samael, God tests humanity and the Archangel draws out the sinful and unrepentant, then God judges then and Samael destroys them.
In seducing humanity into acts of evil, Samael is just doing his job. He is both good and evil and is highly loyal to God’s word, doing his bidding without question - he mostly destroys sinners.
Samael is also the one who planted the Tree of Knowledge in the garden of Eden to tempt Adam. God however forbade Adam to touch it and punished Samael by banishing him. In retaliation, Samael took the form of the serpent and tempted Eve to eat the fruit from the tree.
When Abraham’s faith was tested by God and commanded to sacrifice his son Isaac, it was Samael who whispered in his ear to disobey.
So where does Crowley fit into this then? Well Samael hasn’t exactly ‘fallen’ from heaven, his angelic role took him down to Earth, performing deeds considered demonic and evil and his refusal to bow down to God’s creation led to his banishment. You could say he ‘sauntered vaguely down’?
We know from Season 1 that Crowley was the serpent that tempted Eve so he fits into the Samael theory there.
In Season 2 we see that Crowley had a ‘permit’ from God to destroy Job’s children and possessions to test his faith in God.
In Season 1, Crowley talks to God and says “I know you’re testing them, you said you were going to be testing them. But you shouldn’t test them to destruction. Not to the end of the world.”
So whilst Samael is an Angel, he very much has the role and characteristics of a demon and can be described as a fugitive or wanderer.
Regarding Samael planting the Tree of Knowledge, who else do we know with a bit of a plant fetish?!
Tumblr media
Some other fun facts: Samael has red hair, and is associated with the planet Mars. He is also associated with the left side, the North and Tuesday.
It’s also said that Samael’s name shouldn’t be spoken aloud so as not to draw his attention - is this why Crowley chose a different name and doesn’t introduce himself to Aziraphale at the Horsehead nebula?
——————————————-
So here’s the slightly scary part and if Crowley actually was/is Samael…
In the Second Coming (as was mentioned as Heavens next focus at the end of season 2) the messiah is supposed to deliver everyone from death and everyone will be resurrected. But he’ll do more than bring life, he’s supposed to bring an end to death itself, including the very concept of it. Without the finality of destruction, the Angel of Death (Samael) serves no purpose and is himself, annihilated. Thus, with death undone, Samael becomes the Anti-Christ.
Could season 3 see Aziraphale finally forced to make a choice between heaven and the one he loves?

Hi there!
Per request, I cropped your name.
I also sent you an apology privately for how long it'd taken me to get to this. Largely because it's just a depressing thing to talk about. Danneel is doing classic abuser techniques here--putting him down; humiliating him in front of others (when at cons like Wales Comic Con) or having him repeating negative stories at cons himself; continuously finding fault with him; making him feel like the foolish one; disregarding his thoughts and/or emotions; and using sarcasm to cause harm.
Imagine having your own spouse, your partner of what... 17 years?... saying "You'll do" when they're stanning other, wealthier actors and stars. Like, wow. Consolation prize? Thanks? As though she didn't force his hand into proposing to him. Mind, Jensen even said she laid down an ultimatum--propose or she walked. That's love, for sure!
Imagine landing no less than three shows with Amazon and a regular guest starring appearance on a major broadcaster... and still being told "Not impressed". God. That's painful.
He may likely be so busy that despite what some AAs are saying ("It's only 1.5 hour flight to home!"), he might not even fly back home all that much. Why would he? For his kids? Absolutely. For his so-called loving wife? Not so much.
Have you noticed in that clip, Jared had to stop Jensen from rambling? Because he was listening to his friend and brother in all but blood put himself down repeatedly, hearing how his friend's wife is being emotionally abusive... in public, no less. I can't even imagine how Jared feels about this.
Mind, Jared knew Danneel before Jensen did (or so Danneel claimed). Ever notice how they barely ever hang out in the past? If all four of them--Jared, Gen, Jensen and Danneel--did hang out, Jared was rarely spotted with her. He knew what kind of person she was and wanted nothing to do with her.
Even Gen barely engaged with Danneel. Oh, Gen was friendly and warm in public--I'm reminded of that one live video where Gen praised Danneel's acting as Sister Jo/Anael on Sueprnatural and the look Danneel gave her... Danneel knew Gen didn't mean it.
Getting sidetracked here.
I know a lot of anti Jensens won't agree with me here, and that's all fine. We're allowed different opinions. Even those who are "Jensen critical" would disagree as well. Also fine. What I'm about to say next is my own personal opinion, speculation, and observation.
As I've mentioned before, I'm a survivor of abuse. From childhood onward, I've endured a variety. Emotional neglect, physical abuse, even sexual abuse as a child. That wrecks people. Because we're experiencing abuse from the hands of people who should love us. So if our own parents, siblings, relatives, whatever, are hurting us... we start to think: "Did I do something to deserve this mistreatment? Am I such a horrible person?"
And if that isn't corrected--and too often childhood survivors are overlooked and ignored, not able to get the help they desperately need, they often develop and grow into insecure adults with low self-esteem and low self-value.
One very common refrain will ring in their minds: "I am unworthy and undeserving of love."
This is where I feel Jensen's issues stem from. He was exploited by his parents for their gain and profit. Modeling, acting, often told by his father he's being punished out of love (thus creating a negative association of what love really is), and likely surrounded by a lot of people who use him for their gain and profit.
I can't speculate on the relationship between his parents, but what little I've heard and seen of Alan Ackles, it doesn't sound like a healthy example either.
If you don't know what a healthy relationship looks like, or experience it yourself... one struggles a lot. It's how generational trauma is created. My paternal grandfather... was abusive. Emotional and... otherwise (there's a massive skeleton in that closet that left me floored when I discovered it). My own father continued it. I'm determined to break it and I think I've largely succeeded. No, I didn't have a healthy relationship, but I grew strong enough to know what I had wasn't it.
I'd rather be single than in an unhappy relationship. Unfortunately, for so many survivors and victims, it's never easy. Because the voices in their head parroting the fears back to them lie.
It's sadly easier to say "Oh. That person made that choice! It's their own damned fault they're unhappy!" Or "They're the ones who stay!" It's easier to judge than it is to admit that it's not a cut-and-dry situation. That breaking the emotional abuse cycle, that breaking free from abuse in general, is never, ever easy.
I speak from experience. I lost quite a few friends because they actually thought I wanted to stay, or that I was being unreasonable in my fear. Not once did they bother to reach out and try to understand from my end.
"Oh just leave!"
No... it's never easy to "just leave".
Jensen's trapped in a very vicious cycle right now. He finds it easier to put himself down and think he deserves it, than to admit that he's in a situation that he could leave. It's scary to leave. It's the unknown. It's easier, in so many ways, to live with the pain we know than the pain we don't.
Danneel knows it, feeds on it, uses it.
I rambled on a lot. I appreciate your ask and your compassion for Jensen.
Thank you for reading.

Going more in depth to this bc I’m stuck in traffic and have nothing but time: I know about the bunker, which means I advocate for cas and kevin to stay there full-time. Once they’re there, I work on talking everyone out of closing the gates of hell (based on the assumption that it would’ve locked spirits bound for it in the veil — presumably they know my info is good by now) to avoid both the metatron and gadreel debacle.
Once I’ve done THAT, it’s wife time. I scour the bunker for materials and spells that could get me in contact with Lucifer. I just want to talk to him for a while first and figure out how deeply he’s been cartoon-ified. Once it’s either been established that it’s not that bad or I’ve fixed him, I work on getting him out (I’ve been finding spells for Sam’s brain problems all this time as well, #win for white magic).
Realistically this goes wrong at some point (Dean finds out what I’m doing and I get shot) or my efforts to change things prove fruitless (metatron & gadreel bullshit happen anyway, this is my personal hell) — but a girl can dream
If you could pick a supernatural season to enter the show during in order to try and fix things (or make them worse lol your choice) which season would you pick? What would you do? And would you survive long enough to change things?
Oh this is SUCH a question. Ideally I would join in late s7/early s8 and try to avert the bullshit that comes with the tablets and the MOC (mostly by being Kevin’s advocate lolol) but uh. I would absolutely not live. I am far too visibly queer and far too mean to Dean Winchester.

I'm thinking about themes. Hector's story already has some themes established, but the teeth children one doesn't.
Okay so I'll try to write here: the reflection started with me wondering if Bryan killing his brother is or not a good idea for the story. To summarize the ping pong battle I had inside my head: it isn't. No matter how I contextualize it, it will sound weird, stereotypical, utopic and would have horrible effects on Bryan's character. So I started thinking: what is the teeth children story theme? What is its idea? What do I want to imply with this? I thought this because I wanted to know if Bryan murdering an someone was a good idea for the story themes but then I realized... the story doesn't have any.
Some possible ideas I gathered are: childhood (this one is kinda of a must since the characters are all from 5 to 11 years old), revolutionary feeling, juvenile rage, random politics rants, blahblahblah. Honestly I just want to avoid having the same themes as I have in Hector's story :/
The later are things like... discovery and acceptance or personal and collective identity, anti-imperialism, me bashing on the US. So I want to avoid these on the teeth story. Tbh Hector's also has some stuff with childhood (his younger brother and Anael are proof of that) but it isn't as relevant as the others.
Okay my brain just suggested a funny idea. Hector's story is a more... "easy" to swallow pill, but, since teeth is more... grotesque, why not make teeth straight up communism propaganda?
Like, the base story was already insane, what am I missing by making it some stupidly elaborated propaganda in it? And I can make each children represent a different form of societal struggle or issue, which CAN ABSOLUTELY WORK. I can try to make it a radical weirdly organized mass of ideas, since... well, ever since the beggining, the story is batshit insane. Yeah, I'll use that idea as a base for now, it seems fun.

I think anyone who is in a failed marriage would feel envious of healthy and happy ones. (Regarding Elta and Gen) but at the same Danneel probably couldn’t give a shit as long as her bank account remains full. Who needs a happy marriage when money can buy you all the happiness in the world?? 🙄
What was her one dimensional, flopped character on SPN's line? "Prada, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana" They wrote for her and so they made the character just like her.

Actually, I would argue Jesse isn’t completely useless for a similar reason that Cole isn’t completely useless.  The point of his character was another mirror to Sam’s moral struggle over having demon blood in his veins.  The episode focus wasn’t meant to be “hey look at this super powered kid!” it was about how he was created by a demon and yet wasn’t evil.  With a bonus little dig about deception.  I do think perhaps the writers should have realized having him just fuck off to Australia was going to leave them being asked, “Hey what about Jesse the antichrist kid?!?” in perpetuity.  However, I think he made a brief but relevant contribution to the story.
Anael, though?  LOL.  First they brought her in to play Lucifer’s skeevy sycophant girlfriend.  Which was not just useless but gross and I’m not convinced it wasn’t just Eugene Ross-Leming having Danneel act out some pervy self-insert Mark Pellegrino fantasy of hers.  Maybe somebody might try to argue that was part of that sort-of redemption/self examination arc thing they were trying to do with Lucifer for a bit, but since it was absolutely stupid as fuck and went nowhere?  Nope, useless.
After she ludicrously survived insulting Lucifer to his face, they just kept plugging her into moronic insert angel here holes in their quote unquote plots.  Which more than once involved absurd backstory retcons and were usually lazy McGuffin searches.  She was Joshua’s right hand, she knew Ruby!  I shudder to think what kind of impressively absurd nonsense they would have kept adding to this stupid placeholder character if the show had continued.  It’s not the stunt casting that bothers me.  If they’d written a brief, one episode pointless cameo for Jensen’s wife, fine.  If they’d written an actual character that did more than take up extra #5 spaces in multiple episodes that was within her meager acting abilities and handed it to Jensen’s wife, fine.  Writing in the specialiest nobody angel ever and shoving her in our face ostentatiously to waste screen time over and fucking over again?  Ugh.
Which character was more useless?

4, 12, and 24? :3
4. what was the last straw that made you finally block that annoying person?
Seeing them go on an anti-Lucifer rant in the tags of some poll <3
12. the unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them
I cannot stress enough how many angel human aus that don’t have Raphael would be so much better if they had Raphael. Fic writers look at me. Look at me. You do not need Hannah or Naomi or Anael or whoever. There is already a character who fills the role you want them to and also is cool as fuck with so many problems. Please just add Raphael
24. topic that brings up the most rancid discourse
Honestly the way wincest makes normally sensible people go rabid is like. Not even funny. Why are you digging through ao3 kudos and tumblr likes so you can internet execute someone pls go outside

I would love for you to talk more indepth about the montage. To me it feels so off and weird. Almost like a parody? So many scenes in it are "funny" moments that just don't make sense in the context of an emotional overview of the road so far... (Like all the scenes where Dean is eating, Donna with donut dust on her face, Sam getting hit during the game show.) I don't know. Isn't the montage supposed to make me nostalgic, teary-eyed? This one definitely doesn't do it for me!
Here I am! Yes, I absolutely agree. The montage is Weird(TM). It’s kind of a tone rollercoaster. It’s very full of funny/silly moments, with some serious moments smacked in. And it definitely looks like... there’s something about it.
For an easier consultation I will reference the gifs I have made of the montage sequence here.
[Gif 1] It starts pretty much like I’d expect a Supernatural goodbye montage to start. The two brothers meeting for the first time in the pilot, a reminder of their childhood with John, their banter still from the pilot, a couple moments of them driving in the car in the first seasons, Dean saving Lucas in 1x03 which is the first Dean-heavy episode and also an extremely symbolic moment for Dean’s entire journey - just think at how Lucas as a mirror was still relevent during the “drowning” Michael possession arc. Everything feels normal so far. We’re starting from the beginning! Now--
[Gif 2] Interesting and weird choices start here. Them pretending to be high school teachers from After School Special 4x13 - actually a very iconic moment for the fandom, remember that post of Dean in shorts from that episode that you had to reblog when it came on your dash? (Actually I’m not sure if I ever reblogged it lol.) Dean celebrating getting young again from The Curious Case of Dean Winchester 5x07 (and Jensen showing off his agility). The two of them showing their FBI badges to Jesse Turner’s biological mother in 5x06. Dean mowing the lawn of Mary’s house in the Djinn dream and immediately after Jess and Sam kissing also in the Djinn dream, from What Is And What Should Never Be 2x20. Then Dean after killing the witch when he was under the memory loss spell, in Regarding Dean 12x11. Sam happy when they celebrate Christmas in A Very Supernatural Christmas 3x08. Them being “lucky” under the effect of the rabbit’s foot in Bad Day At Black Rock 3x03. Sam also happy in Baby 11x04.
Again the present, then the montage starts again with the water-related ghost from Red Sky At Morning 3x06, a Bela episode, and then Bela herself from her first episode, 3x03 again.
What do these moments have in common? Not all of them, but for many of them I’d say reality being manipulated. The Djinn dream, the rabbit foot, Dean’s aging, the Antichrist... and it’s not over yet. Also, them pretending to be teachers, agents etc - not “real”.
[Gif 3] The tone suddenly gets more serious and relevant to current events: Chuck in The Monster at the End of This Book 4x18 (eh). Death in Two Minutes to Midnight 5x21 (the first appearance of Death, while now we’ve had Billie’s last and a very short-lived new one), and then two major moments from Lazarus Rising - Dean emerging from the grave and finding the handprint on his shoulder. Crowley’s first episode, Abandon All Hope 5x10. Zachariah’s death in Point Of No Return 5x18. Anna from The Song Remains The Same 5x13, where she is the antagonist having been brainwashed successfully by heaven. Michael burning and Sam jumping in the cage with Michael in 5x22, then another moment from 4x01 (the brothers hugging after reuniting). A moment from The French Mistake 6x15 (reality fuckery again!). Sam in Frontierland 6x18.
[Gif 4] Reality fuckery continues with Becky marrying Sam in 7x08. Funnily enough, this is the peak of Becky’s obsessive behavior which she went to therapy for and grew away of - it definitely emphasizes how far Becky has come. Donna’s first appeance in 9x13. That iconic shot of Dean in Bloodlust 2x03 because he’s pretty. Charlie’s first appearance in 7x20 while she dances to Walking On Sunshine (relevant?), Kevin’s first appearance in 7x21 when he becomes a prophet (lots of firsts). Abaddon’s first appearance in As Time Goes By 8x12. Then there’s the first appearance of the bunker, in the next episode, a couple shots in fact. Then more 4x01, Ruby pretending to mistake Dean for the pizza man (eh). Then more present...
This section seems to be mostly “first appearances” - including Ruby’s s4 meatsuit, i.e. Genevieve’s first appearance.
[Gif 5] We suddenly jump to more recent events with Kelly and Jack in heaven in Byzanthium 4x08. Jack’s iconic hello from 4x16 Don’t Go In The Woods. Dean teaching Jack how to drive in 14x07 Unhuman Nature. But then we suddenly go from Jack things to something completely different on the surface: two consecutive moments from Changing Channels 5x08, including the iconic Nutcracker scene, and Sully from Just My Imagination. We are actually back to the previous theme: reality fuckery. Gabriel’s episode was about placing them in “television shows”, Sully, while real, is literally a child’s “imaginary friend”. And then... a moment from the cartoon part of Scoobynatural! It doesn’t get more reality fuckery than that. Oh, wait! Charlie and Dorothy going to Oz in 9x04. That’s a pretty strong contender. Dean being hit in the face by a fairy in 6x09 - also about a realm Dean briefly went to. And, in case we felt like we hadn’t gotten enough 4x01 yet, Pamela’s first appearance (her last, albeit a hallucination, was about the whole “How come you only want what you can't have?” thing).
[Gif 6] We continue again with a mixture of firsts and weird things. Ellen’s first appearance in 2x02, Dean and Cas in 4x18 (we saw Chuck from that episode earlier), Jody’s first appearance in 5x15 Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid. Rufus in 6x04 Weekend At Bobby’s (not his first but a good episode...), Garth in 9x12 Sharp Teeth (not his first but the first in which he is a werewolf and is married... relevant to recent lamp events??), Missouri in 1x09 (her first appearance).
Then Gabriel from 13x21 Beat The Devil (an episode where he plays a trick on Lucifer) and Rowena from the same scene (in fact a scene where they’re flirting).  Then Eileen coming back to life in 15x06 and smiling at Sam. Jo flirting with Dean in 2x02 - her first appearance, again. Funnily enough, she had been introduced as a love interest, but ended up being repurposed as a sisterly figure. Tempted to say it’s relevant in an ironic way. Mary in 14x11 Damaged Goods, when Dean has a goodbye mother-son moment with her. Amara in 11x09 Oh Brother Where Art Thou when she was looking for her brother. Then Lucifer in two different vessels (12x07 Rock Never Dies and 12x21, when Lucifer regains control over the vessel).
Then Metatron doing the find a wife make babies speech to Cas in 8x23! Relevant??? Dun dun dun. Then Ketch for some reason (the first episode where we see his face, 12x08 LOTUS).
[Gif 7] Then Jo/Anael in 13x13, another first appearance. (I cropped these horribly I should have cut them when the present happens lol.)
Sandwiched between two shots from the present, Dean Sam Mary and John having dinner together in 14x13 Lebanon.
Then we start again with Dean riding Larry in 12x11, Dean and Cas dressed as cowboys in 13x06 (mini pattern here...), Asmodeus with the archangel blade in 13x13 (insert meta about Asmodeus in Christian lore here), and the really intriguing “Intermission” shot from the play in 10x05.
[Gif 8] To continue a certain pattern we might be tempted to see, Dean eating piecake from 14x06 Optimism (an episode about a distorted version of romantic love), then Dean eating noodles from 10x13 Halt & Catch Fire (the ghost is a husband that passes on thanks to his wife). Dean after his dentistry session with Garth in 15x10. Meg from 6x10 Caged Heat (the episode with the pizza man porn). Dean and Sam investigating in 4x12 Criss Angel Is a Douchebag (an episode about growing old poorly). Crowley in 10x16 Paint It Black (that episode). Dean playing that game in 14x17 Game Night (the episode Cas calls for God, and when Mary dies - the one playing the game was God...). Sam and Dean getting out of the car in 13x05 when they visit the traumatized kid (peak mourning Dean episode...). Then we go into reality fuckery territory again with 14x15 Peace of Mind, Sam under the psychic’s control and Cas disgruntled about it.
[Gif 9] Mick Davies from 12x16 Ladies Drink Free, when he learnt a lesson about monsters. Dean geeking out about the Hatchet Man - so heavy with mirror significances - in 14x04 Mint Condition. Belphegor - Jack’s dark mirror - in 15x03 The Rupture, the break-up episode. Donna’s first episode again, this time Dean and she eating donuts. Dean, Sam and Mary hugging in 12x22 after the confrontation in Mary’s head. Kaia in 13x09 The Bad Place, when Jack uses her to find the way to where Mary is (Mary pattern?). Claire&co rescuing Jody and Donna in 13x10 Wayward Sisters. Dean in 1944 dresses as a sailor in 11x14 The Vessel. Baby nyooming in 15x11 The Gamblers...
Aaand more Changing Channels, the genital herpes ad. It’s almost like reality fuckery is a theme. Followed by Sam drinking the anti-cold concoction at Garth’s in 15x10 and the two of them outside the monster fighting pit in the same episode. Then Cas, Dean, Sam and Jack on a video call with Ketch in 14x09 The Spear when they talk about the egg to trap Michael.
[Gif 10] We stay in the same episode with the four of them heading to Michael. Then the four of them celebrating Jack’s return to life (after Cas’ deal with the Empty). More present, and then the iconic “we’ve got work to do” [trunk closes] moment from the pilot.
So: some of these moments seem like genuine moments you’ll want to put in a montage, but there’s a weird predominance of characters smiling and looking happy or goofy. It’s kind of... not exactly representative of the show as a whole, you know? There are moments that fit as, you know, iconic steps in the story, but surprisingly few, and many moments you’d expect to be in a “final” montage are blatantly not there. Several moments with, let’s put it like this, suspicious meta connotations. Moments that, well, we don’t know what happens in the finale yet, but smell like they might be relevant to future developments. (Metatron’s speech to newly human Cas anyone?)
What really strikes me is the amount of moments connected to reality being manipulated or distorted in some way. Lots of Changing Channels, fantasy elements of various kinds (the Djinn dream, Scoobynatural, Oz, the imaginary friend Becky’s wedding to Sam, the fairy, ...), them acquiring luck (s3) or losing it (s15), and so on. It’s almost like the sequence is telling us something...
