Nah I used to think that way too then read some of the writers interviews and realised Arcane needed to change writers

the writers can’t even differentiate between what’s in their beta script ( that got changed) and the script that was published and implemented.

They don’t even properly know the material they’re working with.

The writers who don’t want to focus on one of their main cast for some reason despite it being the last season so there’s no other time to re-focus on them.

i'm not done with my christian linke slander. his response to fans' complaints about vi's characterization (or lack thereof) in season 2 is very disappointing. there is nothing wrong with wanting more attention for other characters but ffs, vi is THE protagonist of the series. there should've been more attention on her loneliness after breaking up with caitlyn, struggling with change, and her thought process of becoming an enforcer; all of that felt like an afterthought in season 2. it's not like a character having disproportionate screentime was ever a problem either. jinx and vi had the most screentime in season 1, but the other characters still felt fully fleshed out and interesting. i really hope linke doesn't work on the upcoming lol tv adaptations, you should not be a show runner if you can't listen to reasonable fan criticism.

all the big hate group networks use jews as a uniting big tent to find common ground to work together. no joke. brown and black christian nationalist and islamist pro terrorist speakers are routinely used by white supremesists online and at in person conferences.

no one seems to acknowledge that the jew hate is the core principal behind conspiracy narratives globally and that conspiracy narratives are the destabilizing force that lets a person go from "i want to change the world for the better!" into "things can only get better by mass violence!"

and everyone kinda ... ignores it. not even that it's a warning sign but like... that it's pretty critical to convince someone that they need to cause mass death? i just feel so crazy sometimes.

i'm not even just worried for jews, i'm trying to warn goyim that antisemitism is why schools and concerts aren't safe FOR THEM, and it's like... crickets. no idea.

Viktor's (subverted) Aristotelian Tragedy

A common sentiment I’m seeing throughout post-finale Viktor discourse is an understandable concern or distaste for the element of choice lost throughout his story. I know a lot of us – myself included – expected more time spent on his transformation, along with emphasis on the anger/rage/betrayal fueling it. But seeing him allow Singed to “begin the process” in episode 8 reminded me of Arcane’s origins – tragedy. Bear with me for another long analysis :)

Aristotle wrote the following on the tragedy: “A tragedy is the imitation of an action that is serious and also, as having magnitude, complete in itself…with incidents arousing pity and fear, wherewith to accomplish a catharsis of these emotions.” He also emphasized that the true tragic hero couldn’t be perfect, and his downfall into such catharsis-inducing circumstances was reliant on a fatal flaw, oftentimes pride.

Viktor fits this mold, as do many Arcane characters, and it stands to reason that this was intentional since the writing team has reiterated that the show is a tragedy, at its core.

Regarding Viktor’s fatal flaw, I’d argue it’s pride, but it manifests very uniquely. He never makes any grand declarations about his success and doesn’t draw attention to himself in any clear way throughout season one (“Progress Day” comes to mind). Instead, his pride manifests as staunch independence and self-reliance that lead to his downfall; his unwillingness to break his stoic mold arguably led to his use of the Hexcore…so it goes.

Fascinating caveat: Viktor’s pride is a defense mechanism, a necessary tool he built in order to survive and succeed in a hostile environment to people of his station. His self-reliance is increasingly desperate as his illness worsens. He’s cornered by fate but banks on the sanctity of choice at every turn – in season one, Viktor is bound by the conviction that we all have a choice. It’s why he’s so distressed when Jayce makes the wrong one regarding weaponizing Hextech.

“There is always a choice.”

Viktor’s choice to fuse with the Hexcore is the classic Aristotelian fatal flaw moment, the singular incident that opens the flood gates for eventual catharsis. We watch Viktor make an irreparable choice, one that we know to be bad, and endure the repercussions. He then makes the choice to abandon the Hexcore, and end his life, but audiences can’t shake the feeling that those consequences aren’t leaving anytime soon.

So why is Viktor so anti-choice in his final season 2, act 3 form?

Choice is Viktor’s weapon. Pride is what leads him to abusing it. Despite how uncomfortable and depressing it is to watch, Viktor’s slow descent into the Herald is a perfect twist of fate. The Arcane is even so insidious that it meshes with his original intent, to help those suffering in the undercity, while convincing him that their subservience is healing. He becomes responsible for their choices. He knows what’s best because he’s relieving the Gloriously Evolved of their suffering, right? The utopia is for the greater good, yes?

Admittedly, it was really hard watching act 3 Viktor descend fully into his choiceless ethos. But we can still relate it to his tragic flaw – his pride has mushroomed into coldhearted omniscience; not only does he know what’s best for everyone, evolution, but he also has the sense to make the choice for them to supersede their “baser instincts.” The grief we feel upon seeing this perverted, violent version of himself, as far removed from Viktor as possible, is the culmination of Aristotle’s treatise on tragedy. The catharsis is the rock-bottom Machine Herald.

But then Arcane decided to basically make Jayvik canon (get out of here, Christian Linke) and destroyed the early drafts of this post. I’m going to rapid-fire this next bit:

Jayce forces Viktor back to life. Viktor has no agency in his season 2 inciting incident. Again, it’s distressing when we mourn his agency, but it remains in accordance with Aristotelian tragedy.

Viktor clings to humanity as long as he possibly can. When Jayce calls out Viktor’s trajectory, alleging that his old partner had died in the Council chamber, whatever is left of Viktor gives way to the Arcane because his last tether has been snapped.

Jayce knows the game – Old Man Jenkins Mage Viktor told him so. Jayce becomes the linchpin in subverting Viktor’s tragedy. He knows what must happen. He understands now.

Machine Herald Viktor is given the chance to undo his fatal flaw, to reverse the catharsis, when he sees Old Man Jenkins Mage Viktor. With Jayce’s help, he takes it.

Given that it’s a version of Viktor who ultimately frees him from himself by empowering Jayce, we can gather that Viktor has liberated himself from his tragedy.

Aristotle’s catharsis is rapidly transformed from something based in release to something healing – Viktor’s tether to humanity returns. He grasps it. The walls of his pride and self-reliance collapse. He accepts Jayce’s help, finally being seen as the full individual he is. Catharsis ensues, for sure, but I don’t think it’s based in the typical tragedy genre.

All this to say, I think Viktor’s arc was, in fact, carefully constructed. He represents the Aristotelian descent into a fatal flaw and that’s very distressing to see unfold, especially since he embodied the tragic hero archetype so well from day one. However, Jayce undoes this narrative and we’re given an incredibly subversive ending that I, personally, never saw coming.

I’m sure that Mage Viktor has a much larger bearing on this analysis than I’m accounting for. But for now, suffice to say that he is Viktor’s way out of the tragedy. TALK ABOUT CHOICE!

This doesn’t erase anyone’s discomfort for Viktor having less and less agency, but I’d like to emphasize the logic and literary precedent behind the story decisions.

PS: here's a quick source I looked at about Aristotelian tragedies. I hope to re-up on Greek tragedies so I can get more specific about the parallels Arcane draws from them.

Christian Linke, co-creator and showrunner of Arcane, stated that Sky represents the Hexcore, guiding Viktor toward achieving his desires: influence, power, and ultimately, the Glorious Evolution.

But I can't help but look at these pictures and wonder if there was some kind of disconnection between the script and the animation, bc she's nothing but supportive.

She looks like she's against baddie Viktor and she's worried about him bc he's crossing the line :/

Little summary so far of the elections, for my non german followers:

Germany is unfortunately one big step closer to become a right wing country.

The conservative party cdu won the election. But the problem is that they developed negatively just like the conservative party, the republicans, in the US. They are more extreme in their views; lots of it is has right wing characteristics. They were even willing to cooperate with the right wing party afd, on an anti-immigration bill, which led to a public backlash. So as for better chances to win in today’s election the cdu had to row back on their bill. The majority of voters were gen x and boomers.

Spd and grüne, which were part of the coalition we had until now, lost a lot of points and are now in the middle field/ third place of votings. Their coalition era was a difficult one. Also lots of decisions were blocked/boycotted by the other coalition party: fdp. Which are luckily now out of the bundestag because they weren‘t even able to get the 5% vote njehehehe (additionally: christian lindner, fdp leader, that was responsible for this mess is now „out of a job“ as he resigns. One of the very few good outcomes today.). Spd and grüne apparently had the most votes from millenials and gen z (correction: in recent releases we see that spd had lots of voters from older gens too).

Die linke (leftist party) garnered a lot more votes than usual with almost 9%. This uptake is due to former spd and grüne voters now voting for them. Lots of first time voters (gen z) voted for die linke. But also gen z in general and millenials.

And now to the very bad news: the afd , the full on right wing party, is the second most voted party with around 20%, which is of course very bad news for germany‘s history. Most votes came from boomers, gen x and sadly, first time voters. (Correction: in recent releases we see that in fact the younger generations voted for afd, not boomers :( )

Coalition possibilities: For the sake of preventing afd to gain even more power, we hope for a cdu, spd and grüne coalition. But as I said before, the cdu was willing to work with the afd not too long ago and only rowed back because of public demands, but the cdu‘s goals stay the same nontheless. Friedrich merz, cdu leader, lies and contradicts himself a lot to get more votes. You could say he uses the same tactics like trump. So it wouldn’t surprise me when he lied about the cdu, spd, grüne coalition too and would choose the afd (depending on the final percentage outcome of course). Let’s hope for the best.

No Jewish symbol is more misunderstood than the Magen David, "The Star of David." A thread on the actual connection between the Magen David & Jewish magic:

Its magical origins are obscured by the English phrase, "The Star of David," which is a poor translation of Magen David. Magen = "shield." It is a symbol of a shield, not a star. Nowhere in Jewish literature do we find the phrase "kochav David." It is the "Shield of David."

Before the modern era, we most commonly find the Magen David in amulets. Since the role of an amulet is to provide protection, and a shield is a sign of protection, they are common in Jewish amulets.

For instance, since a Mezuzah is a home amulet, medieval scribes would often add the "Shield of David" along with names of angels [in the boxes on the left column] to boost its protective powers. Like angels who bestow protection, so does the shield.

In recent articles, Moshe Idel has shown that Nehemiah ben Shlomo ha-Navi, a medieval Jewish mystic, claimed that David's shield was inscribed with Divine names. It was the magic of these "shielding" names that protected him in battle, not his military power.

For Kabbalists, the following verse shows David's reliance on magical, Divine names in battle: "David replied to the Philistine, 'You come against me with sword and spear and javelin; but I come against you in the name of the Yah of Hosts.'" [1 Sam. 17:45] 

One magical name became especially associated with the Shield of David, the name AGLA. Abraham Saba (1440-1508), even claims that AGLA is called Magen David.

This association is likely due to the kabbalistic claim that AGLA is an acronym for the liturgical line, "ata gibor l'olam Adonai," which appears right after a reference to Magen Abraham. Hence this magical name became linked to the Magen, the shield.

By the early-modern period, the Magen David often appears in amulets with the name AGLA written in it (in various styles). The most common use of these amulets was to extinguish urban wild-fires. 

This type of amulet became so popular in 17th-18th C. Germany (among Jews & Christians), that Lutheran theologians, who were extremely anti-magic, had to polemicize against the use of such amulets.

At exactly the same time (early 17th C.), Jews begin to be forced to wear the Magen David as a Jewish ID. While Jews had to wear ID badges since the Lateran Council of 1215, those were commonly a yellow wheel, and never a Magen David. 

This is the earliest depiction of a Jew wearing one, from the early 17th century.

While there is no explicit evidence of such, it is likely that, at least in Ashkenaz, the Magen David became associated with Jews at this time because of its prevalence in popular Jewish amulets. To be a Jew was to have access to protective magic. 

For instance, Wilhelm Schickard, a Lutheran theologian, in his work Tarich (1628, Tübingen), critiques the Jews for this: "The shield of David is the very thing which the most superstitious Jewish nation believes to be strong even against fires."

The Nazis, ostensibly, reversed this association. The Shield of David became a symbol for those bodies that are unworthy of protection.

When the founders of the State of Israel chose the Magen David as the national symbol, they were likely oblivious to this long history. But they could have done worse than choosing a Jewish symbol of protection that is other than military power.

It is unfortunate that right at time of the Holocaust and the founding of the State of Israel, the phrase "Shield of David"—with all its magical history—became overshadowed by the erroneous phrase, "Star of David."

The Magen David does not need to be a symbol of Israeli military power. For much longer it was associated with Jewish protective magic—a protection that comes not from swords & tanks, but from the Divine.

For my international followers: Germany had held elections today, as some of you might already know. The final results are not quite certain right now. Like, we have a rough direction, but given that we have a representatitve democracy (instead of fully FPTP like the US) there is right now the big question whether two parties will get over the 5% they ´need to enter the parliament.

RIght now the predicted results look like this:

For reference for all international peeps a quick reference:

SPD - Sozialdemokraten - basically the former Labour Party, though by now they are fairly conservative, mainly due to the current party lead. The current chancellor is by them, but he is a fucking criminal and people are not having it.

Union - CDU and CSU - "Christian" Party. Think like Bush-Republicans. Not Trump-Republicans but Bush-Republicans. Or for the UK people: Basically Tories. They are probably the least Christian party in policy, but they love to quote the bible when they need a reason to hate on minorities. Pro-Capitalist. Anti-Progressive.

Grüne - Greens. Well, nothing really to explain. The Greens. Mainly an environmental party. Usually they are fairly left wing, but right now they are center-right.

FDP - Freie Demokraten - basically the "liberal party", meaing: "All we care about is capitalism being awesome!"

AfD - Alternative für Deutschland - the Nazi Party. Nuff said.

Linke - Left Wing Party. My party. Aka: The actual left wing.

BSW - Bündnis Sarah Wagenknecht. Aka: The party of the former left wing party leader, who did swirl fairly right (especially TERFy) and because of that eventually left the party and made her own party.

As you can see, it looks right now as if the FDP and the BSW will be unable to enter parliament.

Now, as we have a representative government the parties will have to form a coalition, which right now is gonna be a challenge. While technically speaking the CDU and AfD could form a coalition of more than 50% of seats if the numbers stay somewhat the same, the CDU does not want to work with the AfD (especially because they know that their voters do not want that). So basically right now the only possible coalition would be CDU + SPD + Greens. And we will see whether that will happen.

My money is on: We will do another round of elections before the end of the year.

Though the Left Wing party is celebrating right now. We almost got double as many votes as last election - and within the 2 months of 2025 we doubled the number of active members in the party. What is encouraging: Right now we get a lot more older people joining us. So far the old people were always against us, becuase they grew up under Red Scare and shit. But given that when the CDU did one collaboration with the fucking Nazis, we were by far the loudest party to hold against it, a lot of older people now are like: "Actually, socialism might not be the worst." (Like, I can tell you from canvassing: The old people we talked with were either like: "OMG, I will not talk to fucking lefts" or: "Oh, you did work against the Nazis. That is great! Do you want some cake?")

But yeah, the fact that the fucking Nazis have like 20% of votes is fucking sick.

But all in all, the fact that right now the left is really pushing and rising is still encouraging.

realistically, many of them would die of horrible diseases in a couple of decades if they survived suffocation/contaminated air. "they weren't gassing up all the neighbourhoods." zaun is ONE city.

In my first ever sociology class my teacher showed us a documentary on porn addiction. He was otherwise a cool guy, but leaned radical feminist and it really showed in that unit. The doc starts with a little white child playing on a playground, which was just absurdly emotionally manipulative to me. & throughout the documentary the "experts" were all people who financially benefited from the idea of porn addiction (sex therapists, book authors), they said blatantly incorrect information, and never once explained to the audience the controversy surrounding the term or showcase the opinions of sex workers or people engaged in BDSM and kink.

This is all to say that my experience with porn addiction has been that its often discussed by earnest people with genuine concerns, but the way it is conceptualized and understood is shaped by anti-sex bias & whorephobia. It capitalizes on fears of sex outside monogamous heterosexual vanilla marriage as an intoxicating poison equivalent to alcohol, but causing moral instead of physical illness. When there are real problems related to someone's interaction with porn, the blame is misdirected because of that anti-sex bias. It shouldn't surprise anyone that the people most invested in the idea of porn addiction are conservative Christians (and red-pill types who are also anti-masturbation. Imagine being a misogynist and stigmatizing jerking it? Sad!)

I was thinking about making a plurality of God post, but the apologists beat me to it. 🤪

I'm not going to link directly to the article to avoid giving their site attention. Matt Slick and his organization CARM are notorious for being homophobic and transphobic.

The less traffic they're given, the better.

Still, I think this is a good weapon in our arsenal as plural systems. It seems inevitable that as plurality becomes more common and accepted and as tulpamancy continues to catch on, we're inevitably going to be faced with opposition from conservative bigots.

I think it was last year when I saw a thread in a Catholic subreddit with people there suggesting tulpa were demons.

I focus a lot on scientific evidence for non-traumagenic plurality. This is my weapon of choice when dealing with secular sceptics. But when the time comes and the religious right come after us, I believe the better tactic will be to remind them that their God Himself is a non-traumagenic plural.

Instead of arguing science against evangelicals, we argue instead that of course non-traumagenic plurality exists and is naturally occurring because God Himself is plural and humanity was created in the likeness of God and the Holy Trinity.

(Also, anti-endo Christians are inherently anti-God.)

I keep seeing people worship Christian Linke for some shit he’s said and ignore the fact this man is antisemetic and heavily insensitive towards non white and straight characters HE IS NOT YOUR ALLY

I genuinely think people just don't know how much of a shitty person he is. Seriously, that dude was quite possibly the worst person to put in charge of a project like Arcane. Here are just some of things he's said that you should know of:

• Linke said the death of every character in Arcane was a direct result of their own actions : "Every single big beat in the end with our characters, whether it’s a death or not, is a consequence of their choices."

So, I'd like you to explain to me how Vander's death was his fault, because I don't quite remember him agreeing to becoming Warwick. Also, maybe having the three characters portrayed as suicidal in the show (Jinx, Viktor, and Jayce) all die, and go on to say it was just the consequences of their own actions... isn't a good message?

• Linke has declared Viktor as asexual on his own, with the sole purpose of discouraging JayVik shippers : "There is a love. I don't think it's romantic [...]. To me, Viktor was always asexual".

Now, the issue here isn't having an asexual character, its having chosen VIKTOR, one of the most important characters for disabled rep in animation and popular media, to be asexual. I've went on and on about how infantalizing that is to disabled/chronically ill fans, because we NEVER get to be perceived as sexual beings. Having a body that's visibly different from the norm, or limits on certain abilities, turns off people, makes them uncomfortable. That's why you just never see a sexually active or a sex positive disabled character on screen. That's why, in all his "sexy" skins in LoL, Viktor is given a six pack, has no visible marks of illness on his body (scars, fatigue lines), and has no medical brace or crutch.

Viktor was always intended to have a sexual swagger in season 1 ("this isnt my bedroom") and that was EXTREMELY important to a lot of us in the community. I've seen a very similar response from the asexual community as well, who feel like Linke is using their identity and experience as a shield from fan interractions he dislikes, and without actual care for what it means to the characters. Don't fall for rep that isn't actually meant to represent you.

• Linke has directly and openly compared the Zaun and Piltover conflict to the left and right in the United States, and put both sides on equal moral footing : "If you’re asking me whether we were inspired by two sides of one nation who are incapable of even talking to each other anymore at a certain point, yes."

So, I don't think I need to explain how bad this is. Remember that Piltover is the city of wealth and enforcers, and that they've gazed the district of Zaun, dumped chemicals around their water suplies, directed brutal and deadly repressions of civil uprising and protest, offered no financial support to the struggling communities of addicts, disabled people, and orphans, refused Zaun any implication or decisional seat in the city political life, AND THAT'S JUST ON TOP OF MY HEAD. Now, think about what that means with the USA politics comparison, and the idea that they should "just listen to each other". Yeah.

Now, if you know me a bit, you know I live in Canada, so maybe you think this doesn't affect me personally, or that it doesn't affect you because you live outside the US. To that, I want to tell you about a neighbour of mine, who lives on the street parallel to my house, and this truck he owns. The truck has a whole lot of fun stickers and flags on it: the quotes "TRUMP ARREST TRUDEAU" and "CANADIANS FOR TRUMP", the israeli flag, the confederate flag, christian crosses, the blue lives matter flag, and an anti BLM sticker. Now, I'm sure theres more cool things, I've just never gotten close enough to look at the smaller stickers and ornaments because, as a very openly bi arabic woman, I'm scared to death of that man. But maybe I should just hear him out, right?

Tldr, do not think that the state of american politics doesn’t affect the rest of the world.

• Linke has called the people of Zaun and specifically Silco "Svengali", which is an antisemitic name that implies Jewish people are crooks / dirty / thiefs / sexual degenerates. There's a great post on Tumblr that goes more into detail about this (https://www.tumblr.com/endearing-dalliance/769693230696677376/another-blow-against-arcane-anti-semitism?source=share). I'd just like to insist on how bad calling someone "svengali" is. His character was used in many pieces of propaganda in Nazi Germany to picture the "Evil Jew", and to dehumanize Jewish communities by portraying them as ressembling Satan (forked beard, can do unholy hypnosis, targets women...). Linke could have chosen ANY other term to talk about Zaunites, the oppressed community getting gazed by a police state, but he chose that one. That was not an unconscious decision.

I'm a firm believer that it is possible to separate art from artist/studio/company, and to appreciate something while still being aware the person behind it is not a great individual. However, if you're defending all the decisions made in season 2, these are things you HAVE to be aware of.
