So I just saw one of yours umbrella academy post. Imagine if Umbrella academy familly met cursed princess club, how do you think it would go?
(Sorry I just woke up; so my thoughts might be a bit jumbled)
Umbrella Academy x Cursed Princess? Now that a crossover I haven’t seen! But!!!
Now I feel like if the umbrella gang from season 1 meet the princess; it would probably be chaos.
- for one thing; if the UA somehow got transported to the Princess world; they’d be so so confused? (“Five you can travel to different dimensions??” “No??? Idk how this happened”)
- s1 Luther and Lorena would get along. Maybe Diego too…All three of them are very strong and they all want to protect their family.
- Alison would probably try to remember as much detail about this world because she absolutely going to tell this story to Claria. She probably hang out with Maria
- once she find out the princess are actually teenagers she probably get a bit worried for them.
- Klaus and Jamie would hang out. But Jamie would definitely get uncomfortable around Klaus since S1 Klaus is an addicts and idk if the pastel kids like, know what addict are.
-Jamie’s would forcefully try to talk to Five. Because one he thinks he’s a kid (oh thank god there a another kid here around my age) and two he wants to talk to fashion with him. And three, Jamie probably wants to help five because he could tell something was off.
- also??? Victor and Gwen??? Oh my god those 2 are super similar. But Victor would like low-key be uncomfortable with how happy and positive the Pastel kids are and how they have healthy (at first glance) relationship.
-if S1 gang meet the Curse princess club? They would probably fight. But after the fight they probably stay and try to figure out how to get home with their help (the UA gang are reluctant but they don’t have any other choice)
- Prez would try to help them, with different levels of success. (Luther, Klaus, and Allison I can see Prez being successful). But with the others; it take a longer time to help.
- the UA gang once again feels weird that an actual 25 year old has better communication with her emotions then them….
-They have mixed feels on the Plaid Princes and King Leland. (That dude is totally suspicious.” “Ew plaid?? With pastel?? That a horrible look” “why does he keep wanting to have them be married?”
- five is so so stressed. First he in the body of a 14 year old, then his siblings don’t believe him about the apocalypse THEN he’s transported to a new colorful world. That boy is so angry and anxious; he just wait for the commission to strike. (He half believes that he’s in a situation or he’s having a weird dream)
If the S2 UA gang meet the Princess? Nothing super major would change. But there would be more talking and less “fuck around and do whatever type of plan”
-S2 Allison would immediately try to adopt all the pastel kids. (Were is you dad? Wait he leaves for super long trip? You don’t know what he does for work???)
- s2 Diego would be like 100% more suspicious of King Leland. (He would also definitely teach the kids how to throw a knife)
-s2 Klaus would actually try to talk to the kids and try to figure out what is happening. But in like a odd semi cryptic way? He would go from place to place gathering info and making enemies.
-s2 Luther and five are just…exploring and learning about the world. Probably end up helping Klaus.
-s2 victor lose his memory so he like super confused about what’s going on. But he like, help take care of the palace and kids and teaches them how to play the violin.
-s2 gang meeting the cursed princess? They still try to fight; but less so. They actually try to work with them; but not try to communicate on what their feelings.
S3 gang? Oh there so fucking tired of dealing with the apocalypse and whatever that this might as well happen!
-S3 Allison is so so angry and bitter but she try not to take it out on the kids. (Jamie forcefully try to talk to her)
S3 Luther and Diego are just vibing. They talk and question Leland and his motivation because why the hell not? What gonna happen? Another apocalypse yeah, whatever.
-s3 victor would try to talk to Gwen because damn; the little girl is so painful like him. He would also probably get along better with Prez too.
-S3 Klaus and Five also try to find out what going on; but this time they would actively go to the plaid kingdom place and search for clues.
As for how the family would get home? Not a clue? Maybe either a magic object or thought the power of love?? Idk
Oh my goddd I forgot about Ben!! Ok so like he’s a ghost? So there like a 50% change that ghost can be seen in the pastel world; so depending on witch season goes to the Pastel world, there different reasons.
S1 gang is shocked and upset that Ben was here the whole time!!
S2 gang are still upset that he’s here but yay! He’s here!!
S3 ???? :( no ghost!ben in season 3
(Ughhh hope this rambles was to you’re satisfaction! Sorry that not like a whole lot of characters analyzing…But this was pretty fun to do?)

When it comes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), few things surprise fans more than casting rumors and unexpected character arcs. The upcoming "Avengers Doomsday" is no exception. With Stephen McFeely stepping up as the sole writer, this movie promises to be both a thrilling continuation of the Avengers saga and a bold new direction. But the absence of Christopher Markus, McFeely's longtime writing partner, raises eyebrows and questions alike. Stephen McFeely Avengers Solo Venture Stephen McFeely's return to the writer's seat is exciting, yet bittersweet without Christopher Markus. The duo, known for penning "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," "Captain America: Civil War," "Avengers: Infinity War," and "Avengers: Endgame," brought a depth and cohesiveness to the MCU that fans adore. While nothing is confirmed, the idea of seeing Downey as a villain, especially one as iconic as Doctor Doom, has fans buzzing. Adding to the excitement, Marvel Studios has confirmed that the new cast of "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" will appear in both "Avengers Doomsday" and "Avengers: Secret Wars." This lineup includes Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Susan Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/the Thing. Their involvement promises a crossover that could redefine the MCU's landscape. Directorial Dynamics: The Russo Brothers Return Joe and Anthony Russo, the dynamic duo behind some of the MCU's most successful films, are back to direct "Avengers Doomsday." Their return is a comforting constant in a sea of changes, bringing their unique vision and storytelling prowess to the next chapter of the Avengers' saga. In a Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con, the Russos hinted at a "very special story" that convinced them to rejoin the MCU, setting the stage for another epic installment. The Future of the Avengers As we gear up for "Avengers Doomsday," the MCU's future looks both thrilling and unpredictable. With new faces joining old favorites and potential twists like Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom, the film is set to challenge and excite fans. KEVIN CONROY, PREEMINENT VOICE OF BATMAN, PASSES AWAY AT AGE 66
NEW YORK, NY (November 11, 2022) - Actor Kevin Conroy, the most beloved voice of Batman in the animated history of the character, died Thursday at age 66 after a short battle with cancer.
A noted stage, film and television performer, Conroy rose to unparalleled voice acting fame as the title character of the landmark Batman: The Animated Series (1992-1996). He would establish never-to-be-broken records as the quintessential voice of Batman, bringing the super hero to animated life in nearly 60 different productions, including 15 films – highlighted by the acclaimed Batman: Mask of the Phantasm; 15 animated series, spanning nearly 400 episodes and more than 100 hours of television; as well as two dozen video games. Conroy was also featured as a live-action Bruce Wayne in the Arrowverse’s 2019-2020 “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover event.
In recent years, Conroy was a notable fixture on the Con circuit, greeting fans with the same warmth, respect and enthusiasm they reserved for him.
“Kevin was far more than an actor whom I had the pleasure of casting and directing – he was a dear friend for 30+ years whose kindness and generous spirit knew no boundaries,” said Emmy Award winning casting/dialogue director Andrea Romano. “Kevin’s warm heart, delightfully deep laugh and pure love of life will be with me forever.”
“Kevin was perfection,” recalled Mark Hamill, who redefined the Joker playing opposite Conroy’s Batman. “He was one of my favorite people on the planet, and I loved him like a brother. He truly cared for the people around him – his decency shone through everything he did. Every time I saw him or spoke with him, my spirits were elevated.”
Born on November 30, 1955 in Westbury, New York, and raised in Westport, CT, Conroy began establishing himself in the acting community while under the tutelage of John Houseman at The Julliard School – where he studied alongside the likes of Christopher Reeve, Frances Conroy, and his roommate Robin Williams.
Conroy began his career following his love of the theatre, keeping him on stage in both New York and at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego. The actor received rave reviews for his starring performances in A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Public Theater, Eastern Standard on Broadway, Arthur Miller’s The Last Yankee, and in the title role of Hamlet at the 1984 New York Shakespeare Festival. In addition, he performed in films and television – most notably in the mid-1980s when he had recurring roles on Dynasty, Tour of Duty and Ohara; successful runs on soap operas Search for Tomorrow and Another World; and guest roles on popular series like Cheers, Murphy Brown, Spenser: For Hire and Matlock.
But it was his incomparable, nuanced performance as the voice of Batman that put Conroy on the map – and the fans’ radar – when Batman: The Animated Series debuted on September 5, 1992. From that point on, Conroy would forever be linked to the Dark Knight – in TV series like Batman Beyond and Justice League/Justice League Unlimited; films ranging from Batman: the Killing Joke and Batman: Gotham Knight to Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero and Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman; and more than two dozen video games.
“Kevin was a brilliant actor,” Hamill said. “For several generations, he has been the definitive Batman. It was one of those perfect scenarios where they got the exact right guy for the exact right part, and the world was better for it. His rhythms and subtleties, tones and delivery – that all also helped inform my performance. He was the ideal partner – it was such a complementary, creative experience. I couldn’t have done it without him. He will always be my Batman.”
“Kevin brought a light with him everywhere,” said Paul Dini, producer of Batman: The Animated Series, “whether in the recording booth giving it his all, or feeding first responders during 9/11, or making sure every fan who ever waited for him had a moment with their Batman. A hero in every sense of the word. Irreplaceable. Eternal.”
Conroy is survived by his husband Vaughn C. Williams, sister Trisha Conroy, and brother Tom Conroy. Memorial services are pending.

Kaiju Media Forecast 2020
The kaiju fandom has certainly seen a gigantic upswing in content since the last time I did one of these “year going forward” reviews. Let’s take a look at some of the major movies, events, merchandise and more that kaiju fans have to look forward to in the coming year!
Movies
Every year since at least 2013, the kaiju fandom has had one “tentpole” film event of the year, usually the most highly anticipated feature coming out that year that most media and merchandise hype will surround. This year’s choice is the latest (and possibly last?) of the Legendary MonsterVerse which just last year introduced us to the first American incarnations of Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah. Later this year, the King of the Monsters will once again take on the King of Skull Island in a rematch nearly 60 years in the making with Godzilla vs. Kong. The only snippet of footage we’ve seen is featured in the screenshot above and recently leaked toy fair displays have quite a lot in store for the big crossover event of the MonsterVerse. Godzilla vs. Kong drops November 20th.
According to your definition, the first kaiju film of 2020 launched two weeks ago with Underwater. The Kristen Stewart-helmed deep-sea monster movie isn’t really making the splash it was looking for box office-wise and most people who have seen it say that it’s okay at worst. Regardless, if you like big monsters and quasi-Cloverfield type films, you can give it a shot in theaters now or in a few months when it hits home media.
Godzilla’s sole big screen appearance won’t just be limited to the big crossover with Kong as a snow-covered cameo role will land him a spot in the new Shinkalion movie. From a clip posted on Yahoo Japan (refresh the page if it doesn’t work) Godzilla briefly faces Hatsune Miku piloting a giant train-based mecha (I tried pinching myself, believe me) at the very end. This role is likely going to be very short but nonetheless, it’s always satisfying to see Godzilla pop up in the most unexpected places.
Again, stretching the definition of “kaiju” here, but also apparently the Monster Hunter movie still exists and is coming out later this year in September? I don’t know much about the franchise, but I do know it’s probably going to be butchered with a Paul W.S. Anderson directed schlock fest. Who knows, maybe the monster scenes will make up for it?
As is tradition, the Ultraman franchise hits us once again with an annual theatrical movie based off the previous year’s show. Ultraman Taiga The Movie: New Generation Climax will be out in March and judging by the title, will feature a climactic event featuring the New Generation assortment of Ultraman heroes. I still have yet to see Taiga but hopefully this provides a fun conclusion to the show.
Famed director Hideaki Anno returns to the world of his most famous creation with Evangelion 3.0+1.0, the highly anticipated final installment in the Rebuild series to be released this June. I have not seen any of the Rebuild movies myself but this is sure to be a wild and crazy ride for Evangelion fans.
Finally, the oddball of the bunch. Kadokawa rises from it’s dusty grave with a brand new monster film focused on the unproduced predecessor to Gamera: Nezura 1964. Featuring giant rat monsters and a cast comprised of many Daiei/Kadokawa favorites, it’ll be interesting to see if this film can capitalize on the recent kaiju craze and be successful enough to possibly give our old turtle friend the revival he truly deserves. Nezura 1964 is due out in December in Japan.
Television
Not much on the television docket this year. It’s far too early to speculate about Tsuburaya’s next Ultra series, leaving us with little to discuss. Studio Trigger is supposedly making some kind of new series related to it’s Gridman show from last year (another item I have yet to see). Titled SSSS.DYNAZENON, nobody knows when it’s due out so for all I know this could be a rather outdated entry.
What we do know for sure is coming is something not particularly kaiju but still related via the tokusatsu connection is the continuation of Kamen Rider Zero-One, the first Rider series in Japan’s newly named Reiwa period. This isn’t really related to the year 2020 but honestly I’d rather have something in this TV section to talk about than just the Gridman sequel.
Merchandise
Last year was one of the greatest years in the history of the American Ultraman fandom with the officially sanctioned releases of Ultra Q, Ultraman, Ultraseven, Ultraman Orb and Ultraman Geed to Blu-Ray in the West for the very first time. In this new year, Mill Creek will continue to satiate the needs of Western Ultra fans with releases of previously unseen-on-western-disc series Return of Ultraman, Ultraman Ace, Ultraman X, and the Ultraman Orb Origin Saga. A schedule flyer released online also teases many other entries in the franchise making the continuous release of these beloved shows a treat to look forward to. You can pre-order the four releases discussed above on Amazon.
American toy company Playmates acquired the license for the Godzilla vs. Kong toyline last year and in early January, a few figures from their non-film focused toylines showed up at Walmarts across the country. They’re uh...well, let’s be honest: they’re not great. Leaked images of the Godzilla vs. Kong toyline were also shared around social media but I’ll avoid talking about them here for spoiler purposes. Let’s just say the line is looking mighty juicy for kaiju fans and it will be interesting to see if they’re promoted come New York Toy Fair.
Bandai’s Movie Monsters Series line will likely continue to issue newly reissued/remolded monsters in the Godzilla line (as well as produce new figures for Godzilla vs. Kong) but coming out in March is a sight for sore eyes: a brand new sculpt of the 1995 Gamera design for the 25th anniversary of Gamera: Guardian of the Universe. Hopefully a Super Gyaos is not far behind!
The S.H. MonsterArts line had a fairly predictable and underwhelming list of releases last year. Great figures for the most part, but obvious choices without much surprise. This being a movie year, I don’t expect much to change and we’ll likely see Godzilla vs. Kong figures soon enough. What is confirmed and releasing in May is their take on the Burning Godzilla design featured in Godzilla: King of the Monsters last year. Originally a Tamashii WebShop exclusive, it’s being released in America by Bluefin around June.
Media company SRS Cinema continues to throw unexpected independent kaiju films our way with releases of Deep Sea Monster Reigo and Deep Sea Monster Raiga last year on limited Blu-Ray and wide-release DVD. They’ll continue the assortment this year with Attack of the Giant Teacher and Raiga vs. Ohga. The films likely won’t be much to look at, but more independent kaiju films seeing a western release is never a bad thing. Here’s hoping Daikaiju Eiga G or Gehara see a release soon.
In an almost perfect repeat of Daiei and Toho’s box office bout sixty years ago, boutique label Arrow Video has reportedly secured the rights to the Gamera franchise and are planning a box set that could rival Criterion’s late 2019 release of the entire Showa Godzilla series. Arrow Video puts out sublime products and kaiju fans will likely want to keep their eyes peeled for this set, even if they’ve already secured Mill Creek’s rather dull bargain sets from years past.
While not on the docket for tie-ins to Godzilla vs. Kong (yet), NECA will likely be continuing to pump out new figures in their Classic Godzilla line. No brand new sculpts are known at the moment, but fans can look forward to a blue, poster-styled repaint of their KOTM Mothra figure and some reissues of their older molds in new box-styled, poster-featuring packaging. Some, like the 1985 Godzilla, might even feature newly molded details.
In rather shocking news, Media Blasters has seemingly propped one of its kaiju films up from the depths of licensing hell with an announcement of a Blu-Ray release of Gappa the Triphibian Monsters scheduled for a February release. The out-of-nowhere circumstances surrounding this release as well as a proclaimed inclusion of an “uncut” Japanese release (despite the International version containing more footage than the Japanese version) and Media Blasters rather spotty history regarding kaiju Blu-Rays should have folks taking this with a grain of salt until the actual discs are in collectors’ hands.
Events
As per usual, the kaiju fan’s Woodstock G-FEST will be continuing it’s annual celebration of all things giant monster from July 10-12 at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare in Rosemont, IL. No guest announcements at this time, but fans looking to go should register and book a hotel immediately as attendance will continue to spike and rooms in the convention’s hotel are already sold out.
As is tradition, the San Diego Comic Con will take place this summer a week after G-FEST is over and will likely bring with it new information on Godzilla vs. Kong and many other kaiju-related media. NECA will possibly show off new figures and we may even see some post-2020 information on the MonsterVerse.
Not necessarily guaranteed, but kaiju fans may also want to look out for this year’s New York ToyFair taking place in February. ToyFair has pretty much become the SDCC for toy collectors with many companies showing off their new products for the new year. Kaiju collectors will possibly get a glimpse at the Playmates Godzilla vs. Kong assortment as well as a few other possible surprise reveals from other companies like NECA or Diamond Select.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2020 is looking to be a monstrous year for kaiju fans. Hopefully the fandom will enjoy everything to come from our favorite franchises.
Here’s to a happy 2020!

My SDCC 2018 Highlights!
Ah, San Diego Comic-Con a wonderful smush of nerd culture, its hard to know where to start really. I am never one to religiously watch every single panel and I only really get the snippets of information, the trailers that pop up on Twitter, however, this year I decided to watch a few panels. I will admit that this was entirely due to Doctor Who… I just really wanted to see and hear more of Jodie Whittaker. Without further ado, here are my own personal highlights from SDCC 2018!
Everything to do with Doctor Who:
Hall H, where all the biggest shows and films get to present their latest ventures, Doctor Who was easily the biggest thing (for me) to be shown in there. It wasn’t just a chance to get to see the trailer that was inevitably being dropped, but also to see how the new cast interacts, and to generally hear more about the new series.
Series 11 is perhaps the most exciting series since the show began again in 2005. We have a new showrunner, new companions and the first female Doctor. The excitement is unreal. Every time I see Jodie as the Doctor I just well up, I can’t express how important this is for me and for Whovians all over the world (especially the ladies). Everything about the panel was wonderful (although I would have loved to see Bradley Walsh there…I’m assuming he was filming The Chase or something…) finally meeting Tosin Cole, Mandip Gill, the new companions, whilst also getting to know the new showrunner Chris Chibnall and executive producer, Matt Strevens. The dynamic between the panel was lovely to see and hopefully bodes well for the series.
It’s no secret that Doctor Who has one of the biggest fanbases, and one of the loveliest parts of the panel was the compilation people reacting to Jodie being cast as The Doctor, including Meryl Streep and lots of excited fans.
It was revealed that there will be a Christmas Special in 2018 and the new series will air in the autumn, having no two-part episodes, which I am very intrigued by! Another reveal was the design of the new sonic screwdriver, which I am convinced 13 has made herself, because it looks nothing like we have seen before in the Who universe! That was pretty much it for information, aside from the trailer, which looks incredible and so different to anything we have seen, and like I said before I couldn’t help but start to cry a little bit seeing her as The Doctor. Bring on Autumn!
Steven Universe Panel:
Led by Shelby Rabara, the voice of Peridot, the Steven Universe panel, was just as lovely as the show is. I always love hearing Rebecca Sugar talk about her show, to be honest I just love hearing her voice anyway, it is so relaxing!
At this panel, it wasn’t just the reveals of things to come that stuck out to me. It was the audience questions, which were all so emotionally fueled. The first was a female artist, who after years of struggling found her doorway to the industry by doing work for the Steven Universe comics, who expressed a great deal of gratitude to Rebecca and the show for giving her the chance to do what she loves. Secondly was the big tear-jerker, a mother of a son who has Asperger’s, who wanted to convey the importance of shows like Steven Universe, especially for children like her son. She explained how her son, whilst watching the show with her, expressed that he felt like one of the broken gems featured in the shows narrative. She wanted to thank Rebecca, but also highlight how parents should take and interest and pay attention to the shows their children are watching, because for some, it is a way to express themselves. Steven Universe, is perhaps the one of the best shows that illustrate so many issues that children, and adults go through.
Although the question segment was probably my favourite element of the panel, we were given a sneak peak of the upcoming Steven Universe Movie!!! Which looks amazing and I cannot wait. We were also given an episode to watch, which was a huge treat. All I am going to say is…WHITE DIAMOND!!!
Star Wars EU News:
Now there isn’t really much in the way of news regarding the Star Wars films, that tends to be reserved nowadays to the Star Wars Celebration. However, there were a few things in the expanded universe that I am so excited for. Firstly, the animated series Clone Wars is coming back!!!
If I’m being honest, I have only seen a few episodes of The Clone Wars, however, I adore Rebels, and hopefully the return of Clone Wars, headed by Dave Filoni will most definitely make me watch the entire back catalouge in time for the premier of the new series.
Aside from Clone Wars, which is exciting, the best reveal for me this year is Queen’s Shadow the Padme Amidala novel by E.K. Johnston. I cannot express how much I wanted this book, to the point where I almost began writing some fan-fiction with the hope of Lucasfilm Press publishing it!
After her success writing the Leia novels, I was expecting Claudia Grey to pen this one, however she will be busy writing Master and Apprentice, book covering Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Jon Jinn’s adventures before The Phantom Menace! I am so pleased that the EU is fleshing out the prequels, because I was so desperate for them to return to that era; I am so excited to delve into all these new adventures!
That’s all for my highlights this year I only hope for more next year!
Bonus highlight:
Brooklyn 99 x Doctor Who crossover!!

There’s a certain kind of guest coveted by many of Southern California’s casinos, one who gets special access to the gaming floor, first dibs at a new restaurant or complimentary spa treatments and hotel stays.
But these perks aren’t being showered on just high rollers anymore; they’re increasingly being provided to social media influencers, whose currency is measured in views and followers rather than credit lines or stacks of cash.
As the role of social media continues to increase in society, casinos have increasingly embraced influencers — people who promote products or experiences for their niche but relatively large audiences on social media — hoping that their posts and videos will translate to more visitors walking through the casino doors.
Casinos such as San Manuel Casino near Highland, Morongo Casino, Resort & Spa near Cabazon and Harrah’s Resort Southern California in Northern San Diego County have brought influencers in for visits to expand their marketing reach, sometimes sharing new amenities or promotions at the properties and other times capitalizing on an idea from the influencer.
This shouldn’t be a surprise: Influencers have come into their own as marketing forces in the last few years in a range of industries, and so it’s unsurprising that casinos would want in on the action.
It’s a marked change from the early 2000s when people were often bothered by the idea that a blogger was being paid or doing product placement in their writing, said Heather Honea, chair of the marketing department at the Fowler College of Business at San Diego State University. However, with today’s social media influencers, people accept that the job is basically product placement — as long as the products endorsed fit the influencer’s brand.
According to guidelines issued by the Federal Trade Commission, influencers have to disclose when they’ve been paid or received something of significant value in exchange for their endorsement. However, if they receive a product for free with the expectation that they’ll promote or discuss the product, they don’t have to disclose that.

To attract influencers, casinos might promise lavish experiences or grant the influencer early access to a new amenity.
At Harrah’s Resort Southern California, time is spent getting to know influencers and what it is they’re looking to promote before they’re brought on the property so that a specialized itinerary can be put together to capitalize on the partnership, said Amber Lussier, Harrah’s director of resort marketing.
At Harrah’s, part of the marketing is telling the story of its own city, “Funner,” which has included honorary celebrity mayors such as David Hasselhoff and Rob Riggle. The swearing-in of the new mayor of Funner is one of the biggest influencer events at the resort.
“We really roll out the red the carpet and we customize everything that we do for them so when they show up, they’re going to walk out to a cabana that’s fully decked out with maybe a foot bath and their favorite beer in a bucket of ice and some balloons and decorations,” Lussier said.
San Manuel Casino has worked with influencers for almost five years, said General Manager Peter Arceo, and they have become an important part of the casino’s marketing strategy, particularly when the complex opens a new venue or amenity.

Fitting the brand
Some casinos are more selective in their approach to influencers.
Morongo Casino, Resort & Spa only does two or three engagements with influencers a year, according to Executive Director of Marketing Simon Farmer.
He said that the casino looks at a variety of factors beyond how many followers an influencer may have. Casino officials will consider the influencer’s content, how they represent themselves, what demographics they’re speaking to and where their audience is located. He said that if an influencer does not draw in an audience that’s traditionally apt to gamble or visit a casino, or if that audience is in a different geographic area, then they may not be the best choice to work with.
“It’s not simply reach or exposure for the sake of exposure that we’re looking for; we’re looking for effective exposure,” Farmer said.
Honea said that having a small audience isn’t necessarily a bad thing either.
“It can be really valuable to get a little more niche where they have a really committed set of loyal followers,” she said.
Michael Felci, public relations manager for Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, said Fantasy Springs doesn’t currently work with influencers. He said getting people in to play on the gaming floor is the most important thing and that Fantasy Springs’ research indicated there wasn’t enough of a crossover between their gaming customer base and social influencers.
“We haven’t seen enough data on that to make it a relevant thing for us at this point,” he said.
Casinos get influencer-friendly
Brian Christopher is a well-known YouTube influencer whose channel, Brian Christopher Slots, has amassed an audience of nearly 300,000 loyal fans.
He frequently visits casino floors in Southern California and elsewhere in the country to film videos of himself checking out the newest and most popular slot games. His channel and videos have grown more sophisticated over time, and now he also livestreams from gaming floors.
“We’re always trying to go the next step and see what else we can do that’s new and different and exciting,” he said.
Brian Christopher has his own channel on You Tube, Brian Christopher Slots, with nearly 300,000 subscribers and more than 180 million views. He plays slot machines all over Southern California. Pictured is Christopher doing one of his live shows at Agua Caliente Resort Casino Spa Rancho Mirage on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2020. (Photo by Terry Pierson, The Press-Enterprise/SCNG)
Filming slots may not seem that groundbreaking when everyone has a video camera on their phone, but what Christopher is doing was — and still is — taboo. Many casinos still shy away from filming on the gaming floor, but some are warming up to it.
Arceo said Christopher was the first influencer San Manuel worked with after loosening the policy on taking photos and videos of slot play nearly 5 years ago.
Since that time, because of Christopher’s popularity, and San Manuel’s easy-going policy, the casino has seen more influencers putting together similar content — and they seem to be getting results.
“When we see people coming in within a day or two, or sometimes hours after a broadcast, then we know it works because it’s stimulated someone to get out of their house or wherever they’re at, walk in the door and search for the game that they just saw someone playing online,” he said.
The impact of the pandemic
Some casinos have even utilized influencers to help with their communication during the coronavirus pandemic.
When San Manuel reopened after a months-long closure on June 15, they invited Christopher and several other influencers to spread the word about the reopening and the casino’s safety precautions.
“We just said, ‘Look, when you come here, feel free to tell your followers what the difference is’,” Arceo said.
In his video, Christopher shared details about San Manuel doing two temperature checks and said he thought it was smart that staff had been professionally trained to ask COVID screening questions. Another YouTuber was quick to point out the thermal cameras and plexiglass.
And having someone else share that made all the difference, Arceo said.
“We can say it all day long, but I think when people see real people talking about it then it’s received better that way,” he said.
Lussier said she saw the number of influencers visiting Harrah’s decrease after it reopened from its coronavirus closure in May, which she attributed that to people being cautious about traveling and staying in hotels.
“We’ve seen a steady increase throughout the year, and now I feel like we’re cranking,” Lussier said. ” We’re almost back to where we were pre-COVID.”
Arceo anticipates that social media influencing will continue to rise in prominence and more people will adopt it as part of their strategy.
“I think most people don’t understand it,” he said. “They shy away from it because they don’t understand how it works, but I think just like anything else, once people get the hang of it and see how successful others have been with it, I think they’ll follow suit.”

'Supernatural' actors enjoy family business of being Comic-Con rock stars (USA Today article)
SAN DIEGO — Supernatural stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki began Comic-Con week doing a keg stand with Conan O’Brien, and finished on Sunday by getting their faces melted by the band Kansas.
But for thousands of screaming fans who showed up to the pop-culture extravaganza, those two were the real rock stars.
Dean (Jensen Ackles, left) and Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) are back fighting the good fight in the upcoming 13th season of 'Supernatural.'Dean Buscher, CW
The long-running CW drama enters its 13th season Oct. 12 (8 ET/PT) with Padalecki and Ackles once again keeping the world safe from monsters as demon-hunting brothers Sam and Dean Winchester. While the show has found cult success with an extremely loyal fan base, Comic-Con is the one time a year when Supernatural gets the same level of reception in the convention’s biggest stage as Marvel superhero movies, The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones.
“Do you know if Daenerys wants to make a cameo? Because we might be able to make it work,” jokes executive producer Andrew Dabb.
Jensen Ackles, left, and Jared Padalecki speak at the 'Supernatural' panel during Comic-Con.Kevin Winter, Getty Images
"You know what, Season 13? Have them call us,” Padalecki adds. “I promise to pick up the phone.”
At this year’s Comic-Con, he and Ackles might as well have been sharing the Iron Throne. They made their first talk-show appearance together on Conan, with Padalecki being hoisted more or less upside down on his birthday to drink from a keg of golden pale ale — courtesy of his co-star’s Family Business craft brewery in Austin. Later, Ackles handed full red Solo cups to anyone in sight as O’Brien joined them for a post-show chat.

And on Sunday, before they took the stage to open Supernatural’s Comic-Con panel with a live rendition of Carry On Wayward Son — the show’s unofficial theme song — Kansas drummer Phil Ehart presented a pair of sticks to Padalecki for his 5-year-old son, Tom. (“I would gladly pretend to give them to him,” the actor joked.) And the group — followed by Doug the Pug, a canine with nearly 10 million followers across social media — all wanted their pictures with the stars.
The celebrity hasn’t gone to their heads. “It’s really neat to be a part of something bigger, and to remember we’re a show in a long line of science fiction and horror and thrillers,” says Padalecki.
Adds Ackles: “We come here to humble ourselves.”
Executive producer Robert Singer says part of the show’s success has come from fostering “a culture where we don’t want to repeat ourselves.” Instead of a crossover with the queen of dragons, the Winchesters will get animated alongside Scooby-Doo for the 16th episode of the new season airing next year.
Sam and Dean team up with Scooby-Doo in an animated episode in the back half of 'Supernatural's 13th season.Warner Bros. TV
It’s one more milestone for a show that’s aired 264 hours of creature-killing, apocalypse-foiling action. Misha Collins, who’s played the angel Castiel since Season 4, recalls being at the 100th-episode party and someone telling him they’d see him at the shindig for No. 200. “I was like, ‘That’s actually stupid. That’s not funny. Obviously that’s not going to happen.’ And the fact that it has come and gone and we’re talking about the 300th-episode party is kind of mind-boggling.”
Padalecki doubts Supernatural will go another 13 seasons, though he thinks “600's a good round number (of episodes). Or that would be funny to end at 666.”
Ackles chimes in: “It’s gone beyond dreams come true. Now it’s just 'pinch me.' ”

Avengers Doomsday: Only Stephen McFeely Returns
McFeely's solo run on "Avengers Doomsday" marks a significant shift, one that might bring fresh perspectives to the franchise. The Plot Thickens: Doctor Doom and the Fantastic Four Speculation around "Avengers Doomsday" is rampant, especially with the tantalizing hint of Robert Downey Jr.'s potential return, not as Iron Man, but as Doctor Doom. This alternate-universe twist could provide the perfect new wrinkle for Downey's MCU return, blending nostalgia with fresh intrigue. Stephen McFeely's Avengers solo writing venture, coupled with the Russo Brothers' directorial expertise, ensures that "Avengers Doomsday" will be a landmark event in the Marvel saga. Whether you're here for the action, the drama, or the possibility of a villainous Iron Man, one thing is clear: the MCU is far from done surprising us. Read the full article

Big Bad BeetleBorgs: 10 Facts You Never Knew | ScreenRant
Children's entertainment forever changed in 1993 thanks to Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. With low production costs and booming toy sales, Saban Entertainment was sitting on the most successful television model ever. The lucrative success of Saban's Power Rangers eventually opened the door for other live-action kids' programming. One '90s show that millennials recall is Saban's Big Bad BeetleBorgs, which ran for 88 episodes on Fox from 1996 to 1998. The basic story was three kids were given beetle-themed superpowers so they could battle evildoers summoned from comic books. But as well-remembered as BeetleBorgs is, there's still a lot about it that people don't know.
RELATED: 15 Greatest Power Rangers Rip-Offs
10 Based on two Japanese shows
It's no secret Saban hit pay dirt with Power Rangers. Their economical formula — mixing footage from the Toei productions with new, in-house footage — was raking in the dough. They implemented the same strategy with Masked Rider and VR Troopers. And like the latter show, BeetleBorgs' battle footage was lifted from multiple Japanese series — Heavy Shell B-Fighter and its direct sequel B-Fighter Kabuto. When BeetleBorgs entered its second and final season, it became BeetleBorgs Metallix. Their new suits, weapons, and villains all came from B-Fighter Kabuto. To tell the stock and original footage apart, remember that Japanese shows were shot on film as opposed to video.
9 The Rappin' Granny
Something BeetleBorgs did that its Japanese counterparts did not was show the kids' families. We often saw Roland's (Green Hunter BeetleBorg) mother Nano hanging around. She was quite the character too. When she wasn't running the kids' favorite hangout Zoom Comics, she was practicing martial arts. In real life, her actor Vivian Smallwood was well-known for her rapping skills. She was so talented and beloved, she earned the nickname of the Rappin' Granny. Aside from BeetleBorgs, she appeared in shows like Everybody Hates Chris and Malcolm in the Middle. Unfortunately, Smallwood passed away at the age of 84 in 2017.
8 "Flabber, you are not the weakest link."
The pubescent heroes of BeetleBorgs were aided by a gang of monsters living at a local haunted house called Hillhurst Mansion. This included a werewolf, a mummy, a Frankenstein's Monster-type character, a vampire, a living statue, and a trio of spirits. The most important Hillhurster was Flabber, an eccentric phantasm with genie-like powers. He bore a striking resemblance to both Elvis Presley and Jay Leno, with intentional emphasis on the former. There's some Liberace thrown in for good measure too. His actor Billy Forester states on his Twitter he was a champion on the US version of The Weakest Link.
RELATED: 30 Things That Make No Sense About Power Rangers
7 The real reason why the show ended
Plenty of shows get cancelled because of low ratings, but BeetleBorgs was not one of them. BeetleBorgs ended with Metallix because Saban Entertainment exhausted the Japanese footage. B-Fighter and B-Fighter Kabuto had a total of 103 episodes and a short movie between them. Of course, BeetleBorgs was not a 1:1 adaptation so they used only so much raw footage from the original shows. As a result, the second season ended on an unresolved cliffhanger. Interestingly, the Toei franchise that Heavy Shell B-Fighter and its sequel were part of — the Metal Heroes Series — ended due to low ratings for B-Fighter Kabuto.
6 Alex Borstein played a monster in one episode
You may know her best from Family Guy, MADtv, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, but comedian Alex Borstein has a history with Saban properties. After playing Queen Machina in Power Rangers Zeo, in addition to one-off villains — Bloom of Doom, Lipsyncher, Madame Woe — in previous Power Rangers seasons, Borstein lent her voice to the monster Cataclaws in the episode "Yo Ho Borgs." In said episode, Flabber makes a flub and brings Captain Blackbeard back to life so he can help the kids with a school project. Unfortunately for the BeetleBorgs, Cataclaws poses as Blackbeard in an attempt to get the kiddos.
RELATED: The 10 Worst Family Guy Episodes Ever According To IMDb
5 Easter eggs for Power Rangers fans
With both Power Rangers and Big Bad BeetleBorgs being owned by Saban Entertainment, it's of no surprise there are some Easter eggs. Commonly seen in the background at Zoom Comics was the head of King Sphinx, a monster from the first season of Mighty Mophin' Power Rangers. Another Easter egg for fans was when Green Hunter BeetleBorg and ShadowBorg were seen among the Machine Empire's army in Power Rangers Wild Force episode "Forever Red." Costume recycling was very common during this era of Saban television, which explains why fans would see enemies in future episodes despite the fact they were already defeated.
4 Spider-Man appeared in BeetleBorgs
In episode 19 "Convention Dimension", the kids attend San Diego Comic-Con. When they're not battling the bad guys, they run into Spider-Man. Sadly, it's just someone in costume. But how did BeetleBorgs get away with the blatant cameo? At the time, Spider-Man: The Animated Series was airing on the same network, so it was safe to use his image. This also explains why there's someone dressed as The Tick in one scene. While watching this episode, one may ask why San Diego Comic-Con seems so lifeless. Even dull. Well, remember it's 1996. This was long before the event became such a spectacle.
3 The Power Rangers/BeetleBorgs crossover that never happened
It was good marketing for Saban to do crossovers between its shows. Yet BeetleBorgs never stepped foot in the Power Rangers series. However, there were plans at one point to do a crossover between Saban's mainstay and BeetleBorgs. There's even a photo of Blake Foster in costume as the Blue Turbo Ranger with the Hillhurst monsters. Alas, the televised crossover never came to fruition for some unknown reason. Instead, Acclaim Comics published a one-time issue in 1997 called Power Rangers Turbo vs. BeetleBorgs Metallix. There it's established that the Power Rangers are fictional characters who the BeetleBorgs recognize from television.
RELATED: 20 Craziest Power Rangers Crossovers Ever
2 A tale of two Red Strikers
Shannon Chandler (Jo/Red Striker BeetleBorg) departed after the first 39 episodes simply because she wanted to leave. Rather than replacing Jo with a new character, another actress (Brittany Konarzewski) assumed the same role. The writers created a bizarre storyline where an awry spell alters Jo's physical appearance and voice. The spell needed time to wear off, but in the meantime, Flabber cast another spell that caused others to see Jo only as her former self. To her fellow BeetleBorgs and the Hillhursters, Jo continued to look and talk like Konarzewski. It's worth noting that in Heavy Shell B-Fighter, Jo's Japanese equivalent was also replaced halfway into the season.
1 VR Troopers was cancelled because of BeetleBorgs
Saban's VR Troopers was already using up to three different Japanese shows' battle footage. They needed more once they were through with Superhuman Machine Metalder, Dimensional Warrior Spielban, and Space Sheriff Shaider. If things had been different, Heavy Shell B-Fighter would have been the fourth, and scenes from that would have been used in the potential third season of VR Troopers. Unfortunately for VR Troopers, Saban opted to cancel the aforesaid series altogether, and they made another show from B-Fighter. The fact that VR Troopers' toy sales were not living up to expectations did not help matters either. Thus, Big Bad BeetleBorgs was born, and VR Troopers was over.

A zombie Captain America can be seen in the 'WHAT IF…?' logo 🧟♂️ pic.twitter.com/IQaP6Y5ki8
— Marvel Stuff (@marveIstuff) July 21, 2019
Upon zooming in on the poster, we find a Zombified Captain America in the background. Also, there can be more to the story as in Far From Home also we see Zombified Iron Man scene during one of the illusions from Mysterio. This can be a nod to Marvel Zombies which was a comic series. An infection starts spreading on Earth as an infected Sentry enters Earth’s atmosphere. The story continues, and mostly all Marvel Heroes are now zombies. However, instead of being mindless beasts, they retain their intellect and logic-based abilities. Still, they crave for flesh.
The series was very successful and also received positive reviews from fans. Further Marvel Comics also added spinoffs and crossovers with Zombies which also were a success.

Analyzing The Lil Nas X Business Model
This feature is part of a larger series where we will examine the “business model” of impactful hip-hop artists. Visit our las instalment, about Joyner Lucas, here.
At the tender age of 20, Montero Hill– better known as Lil Nas X– has besieged the music industry in a uniquely Generation Z fashion. When musical historians look back on the year of 2019 and evaluate its biggest sensations, there will be simply no way to overlook the seismic impact of his breakout hit “Old Town Road.” A crossover hit that transcended genres and all possible expectations, one look at the now legendary video of kindergarten-age children losing their minds to its infectious chorus tells you all you need to know about its stamp on culture. Labelled as “country trap,” the fleeting 1:50 track caught on like wildfire and propelled Lil Nas from dwelling on his sister’s couch to a polarizing Wrangler collection, numerous remixes, a star-studded music video, high-profile performances and a lucrative deal with Columbia. In many ways, the Georgia rapper’s voyage is the sort of fairytale rise that any rapper who’s still in the trenches fantasizes about. That said, his emergence as one of the most widely discussed properties in modern hip-hop wasn’t the result of happenstance but persistence and image maintenance.
Lil Nas X at Cardi B’s Fashion Nova party - Jerritt Clark/Getty Images
Back when he was still a sought-after free agent, Diego Farias of Amuse had every intention of signing the young upstart to a deal. But in the wake of Lil Nas X rebuking his offer that was “north of a million dollars,” his comments at a recent Midem music conference encapsulates how the cowboy-hat clad rapper’s rise is the exception to the rule. “To a large extent, this is the story a lot of us dream of: a self-published artist with little means who has an incredible talent, comes through this system, somehow gets [noticed above] the 40,000 tracks a day being uploaded to Spotify and Apple Music, and… becomes a global star.”
Amiable, self-deprecatory and prone to childish humour from time to time, Lil Nas X has played fast and loose with the boundaries between artist and meme in recent months. Despite having the inalienable pressure of equalling the success of “Old Town Road” lingering over his head, a visit to The Zach Sang Show insinuating that he’s anything but worried. “[Potentially being a one hit wonder] is literally told to me at every second at this point, and it’s crazy. It’s expected though ‘cause the type of songs that I’ve made and then they’ll go back to listen to my older songs. I expect that and I welcome that,” he said. “I know. It’s not a doubt in my mind that I’m not going to be a one hit wonder. I know big things [are] coming. It’s gonna be great.“
The forthcoming release of his new EP 7represents a coming-of-age moment for Lil Nas X that will be the true test of his shelf life. That said, his innate awareness of his business model and how to maximize its potential goes some way to explaining why he remains so unfazed by the lingering threat of the fall-off.
Lil Nas X backstage at 2019 Stagecoach Festival - Matt Winkelmeyer/Getty Images
"The rumours are true," he tweeted out in April, "I am a marketing genius.” While it may be a slight embellishment, his knack for self-promotion is getting increasingly hard to overlook of late. A self-professed “internet baby,” Lil Nas X’s unfalsifiable affinity for all things social media has become an integral part of his branding. Whether he’s deploying memes in order to further endear himself to his audience such as his ingenious repurposing of Usher’s “Confessions,” references to “milking the f**k out of Old Town Road” or interacting with fans, few artists have used Twitter as a means of consolidating hype with as much efficacy as Lil Nas.
Typified by his use of a Twitter thread to drip-feed snippets of music to his audience and keep anticipation for 7 high, he has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the online world that he inhabits and it’s something that simply cannot be manufactured. Levelled with reports that he used to run a Nicki Minaj stan account under the moniker of “@Nasmaraj” (while his label has adamantly denied this, there is sufficient evidence to its truth), it’s notable that his account already had a six-digit follower count long before “Old Town Road” surfaced.
Prohibited from the conventional tenets of a major release’s rollout, it was his aptitude for social media manipulation that was pivotal in the rise of the track and in particular, a purposeful attempt to give it a new lease of life through others’ videos. Heeding the case studies of Denzel Curry’s “Ultimate,” Chief Keef’s “Faneto” and numerous other tracks that became unavoidable through Vine, Lil Nas X took matters into his own hands and had the foresight to try replicate this peculiar form of acclaim on the defunct network’s spiritual successor of TikTok:
“I promoted the song as a meme for months until it caught on to TikTok and it became way bigger. I was pretty familiar with TikTok: I always thought its videos would be ironically hilarious. When I became a trending topic on there, it was a crazy moment for me. A lot of people will try to downplay it, but I saw it as something bigger.”
Unashamed in his attempts to transfer tweet impressions into impassioned fandom and profit, the fact that he knows how to appeal to his demographic has made his music and online persona into one symbiotic entity. As such, it was social media traction, or more specifically, a lack thereof, that taught him that remaining true to himself was the path to prosperity in music:
“At first, I was just bored, like, 'Hey, Twitter, I made a song,’” he said. “But I’m like, ‘Wait, this is really hard.’ Then I made another one, and it didn’t make any noise. I was overtrying. A lot of it was me trying to be something that people would like instead of making music that I would like.”
Lil Nas X and Cardi B performing at Summer Jam 2019 - Nicholas Hunt/Getty Images
With ten weeks at number one under his rhinestone-covered belt, it’s easy to forget that the track was the centre of a firestorm over its removal from the Billboard Country Charts. Despite the song being removed due to a perceived inauthenticity, the result was an undeniable positive impact on his momentum. By ostracizing him from the country genre, Lil Nas X became the sort of counterculture figure that young consumers will instinctively flock to. As has always been the case, an artist falling foul of convention and doing something that’s marked as “revolutionary” is a fast track to fame and it made Lil Nas X into a cause celebre for music fans and artists of all denominations. Although Billboard have likely learnt the error of their ways, the attempt at suppression was pivotal in making Lil Nas X into a phenomenon. Now, all he’s doing is capitalizing on it.
Whether you’d like to admit it or not, Lil Nas X’s innate ability to build hype and capture the online audience’s attention has made 7 into an intriguing proposition. While some are likely rooting for him to fail, it doesn’t detract from the fact that every stream or view— no matter the intent— will only work in his favour. Teamed with his irreverent bantering, his willingness to chronicle his life and creative endeavours into 140 characters or less is a critical component of his success and lays out a blueprint for Gen-Z artists that’ll follow in his footsteps.

Blog #2A – Competitive Review (Summer)
To select and evaluate these competitors, I looked for companies that a) have their hand in at least one of the divisions or technologies that we have at Nuance, b) have a track record of incubating culture and enticing new employees through well-produced propaganda videos, and c) have their corporate headquarters or a major hub in the Boston area.
Competitor #1
Name: Amazon, specifically Amazon Robotics and their recent ventures into the Healthcare industry.
Description: Amazon Robotics (formerly Kiva Systems) is a Massachusetts-based company that manufactures mobile robotic fulfillment systems. It’s a subsidiary of Amazon.com. Amazon’s venture into Healthcare became notable with its $1 billion acquisition of the online pharmacy PillPack. At the beginning of 2018, Amazon, Berkshire Hathaway, and JP Morgan Chase formed an independent Healthcare company to “rethink healthcare for their own employees.”
Links:
https://www.amazonrobotics.com
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/why-amazon-is-diving-into-healthcare/
Market Share: Amazon’s projected market share in the retail e-commerce space for 2018 is 41%. It’s not clear what the market share for their Robotics or Healthcare ventures will be, since these are fairly recent developments.
Comparison Summary: Amazon is hiring and growing rapidly, especially in the Boston area, so these new divisions of Amazon represent stiff competition for recruiting and retaining employees at Nuance. A lot of the positions at Amazon crossover with the technology jobs at Nuance: Programmers, Developers, Research Engineers, UX Designers, Hardware Engineers, etc. Amazon’s tone is very confident and inspiring: “we see the big picture, imagine a better one, and make the connections that turn complex problems into elegantly simple solutions.” (excerpt from www.amazonrobotics.com, homepage.) In fact, there’s an entire section on the Robotics website devoted to company culture, which features a video of interns speaking very positively about their positions, the technology, the hands-on nature of their roles, and the overall work environment. The audience is almost identical to the audience for my film. Amazon’s Organizational, User and Products goals are likewise, very similar: to sell Amazon as a cool place to work, and to recruit talented and creative individuals. One additional criterion that could give Nuance an advantage is our many years of experience and advancements in Speech Recognition technologies. This represents a large component of our most successful products, and it draws upon a specific set of backgrounds and skills – could be grounds for a “culture-differentiator.”
Competitor #2
Name: Vertex Pharmaceuticals
Description: Vertex is a leading pharmaceutical company based in Boston, founded in 1989 by Joshua Boger and Kevin Kinsella. The biotech firm manufactures products focused on viral infections, inflammatory/autoimmune disorders, and cancer (most notably hepatitis C and cystic fibrosis). In 2014, Vertex made a move from the Cambridge Kendall/MIT area to the South Boston waterfront, marking the first time in the company’s history that all 1,300 employees in the Greater Boston area would be together under one roof. Vertex also has two research facilities in San Diego, California and Oxford, England.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/matthewherper/2018/01/31/vertex-picks-impressive-cystic-fibrosis-drugs-to-aim-for-a-multibillion-dollar-market/
Market Share: With a current stock price of $173 per share, Vertex is one of the most financially successful pharmaceutical companies in the world. In 2018, Vertex has expanded its reach to treat almost 90% of the Cystic Fibrosis patients with its small molecule drug.
Comparison Summary: Since moving its global headquarters to the Boston Waterfront (a $800 million state-of-the-art facility in the “Innovation District”), the HR teams at vertex initiated a program to promote community and culture. CEO Jeffery Leiden: “This building was designed to connect all of our 1,300 employees (in the Boston area) to one another and to our mission.” The language used on the careers page of the website is similar to Amazon: confident, inspiring, and alluring:
At Vertex, we have some of the industry's best and brightest people helping us achieve our mission of discovering transformative medicines to help people with serious diseases like cystic fibrosis. Whether they are in the lab, part of our business development team or on the phones with patients, we depend on a talented global workforce to lead the charge as we work toward developing tomorrow's breakthrough medicines. (https://www.vrtx.com/working-here)
Since Vertex is primarily a drug company, the offerings are more focused than those of Amazon, thus the pool of potential employees is much narrower. Likewise, there isn’t much crossover between the Vertex audience and the target audience for Nuance, with the exception being some of the positions specific to the Healthcare division. However, the testimonial videos on the Vertex site are designed to meet the same organizational, user and product goals as the film I’ve proposed (scroll down to “Meet Some of Our Team” on the careers page and watch any of the five 2-minute videos). These are extremely well-produced, alternating between interview and clever use of b-roll, with high-quality background music…and each testimonial tells a compelling story. These are worth pointing out, since they will serve as inspiration for the types of shots, interviews, and stories that I hope to convey in my film. Again, the advantage with Nuance is that there are many divisions and different core technologies to draw from. For example: an interview with one of our Speech Scientists, working to develop better algorithms for voice recognition, to improve patient care in the hospital.

Avengers Doomsday: Only Stephen McFeely Returns

Sonny Fodera Talks Success of 'Caught Up,' Announces New Label AARRIVAL
Sonny Fodera Talks Success of 'Caught Up,' Announces New Label AARRIVAL
“Caught Up,” the latest single from the producer Sonny Fodera, belongs to an important strain of motion-commanding house music — songs along the lines of Marshall Jefferson’s “Move Your Body,” Nightcrawlers’ “Push The Feeling On,” and Barbara Tucker’s “I Get Lifted.” The primary lyric in Fodera’s tune is “caught up in the rhythm,” and when this is looped and laid across a grid of ping-pong-ing bass and unyielding, high-stepping drums, the phrase transforms into a set of dancefloor marching orders.
“I still remember playing the bassline, like, man, this is sick!” Fodera tells us. He is speaking from London, at home after a short U.S. tour that included stops in New York City, San Diego, and Orlando. The 31-year-old headed back across the Atlantic to be present at a baby shower for his fiancé, who is expecting a child. Then he returned to America for this week’s Winter Music Conference in Miami.
Fodera has risen through the house music ranks the old fashioned way. He didn’t blow up seemingly overnight, with a hit that sweeps across clubs — or Spotify — from Europe to the U.S.; instead, he climbed slowly but surely, connecting with some of the genre’s big names on the way, earning plaudits from longstanding gatekeepers.
Fodera has released a pair of albums on Cajual, the label of Chicago pioneer Curtis Jones, better known to dancers as either Cajmere or Green Velvet, and worked with Chicago staples like Dajae and Gene Farris. “Caught Up” features vocals from Yasmeen, who has contributed to tracks from house pillars like Todd Terry and Sandy Rivera, and it arrived on the English label Defected, a force in the crossover wing of house music for more than a decade. Now Fodera is forming his own label, AARRIVAL, with an inaugural release planned for next month.

These sterling credentials are the product of a career that could serve as an advertisement for the by-your-own-bootstraps approach. Fodera DJ’d around Adelaide, where he grew up, saving up money and trying to get his productions signed by the U.K. and U.S. labels whose records he found himself purchasing (Guesthouse Music, Drop Music). At age 23, he decided to go the source, booking his own gigs around the U.S. and U.K., then spending time in Ibiza before traveling back to Australia.
At some point during his cross-continental bouncing, he made a positive impression on Gene Farris, a Chicago producer who asked him to remix his track “Dance Warriors” for Cajual. “It really worked and it went No. 1 on Traxsource,” Fodera remembers. (Farris and Fodera connected again in 2016 to make another decadent, declarative club track titled “We Work It.”) Fodera happened to be in Miami at the same party as Green Velvet not long after the “Dance Warriors” remix came out, so he introduced himself, and the two struck up a friendship. “Green Velvet is like my mentor really,” Fodera says. “We’re on the phone and Skype all the time just working.”
More career opportunities fell out of this connection. Hanging out with Green Velvet in Chicago, Fodera met Claude Von Stroke, securing himself a release on Von Stroke’s Dirtybird label. And one of Fodera’s tracks on Cajual, “Putting It Down,” caught the attention of Defected boss Simon Dunmore, a long time van of Green Velvet’s work. This helped Fodera land a chance to play Defected parties, put together a Defected In The House mix, and last year, release his Frequently Flying album on the label.
Dunmore was so excited by “Putting It Down” that Fodera re-recorded the track with Yasmeen, added a sprinkle of hi-hats, in vogue across pop at the moment –“I’ve been listening to a lot of trap lately,” the producer says — and put the track out again as “Caught Up.” It sat at No. 65 on a recent Traxsource singles chart.
The bass carries “Caught Up:” one five-note riff climbs up the scale but then drops on the last note, and another inverts the process, dropping down but suddenly climbing up on the final note. The symmetry is satisfying, and the ending is crucial — it sounds as if the glum half of your brain is in an argument with your more optimistic side, and the hopeful part wins out.
“When I sent it to Green Velvet, he called me that night, and I was in a club playing a gig,” Fodera recalls. “I picked up; he’s like, ‘I love the track!’ I’m like, ‘what?'” Dancers agreed with Green Velvet. “The response [in the club] when I first played that was ridiculous.”
“Caught Up” sounds like Fodera’s attempt to recapture his own initiation into the world of house music, which took place at age 18 during a set from Chicago DJ Derrick Carter. “I was never really much of a dancer,” he remembers. “You have a few drinks and you hear tracks — house versions of jazz and disco, stuff I’d heard growing up — on a good system? I was dancing all night and couldn’t stop.”
Now Fodera can help others experience the same.
