hello! i hope you don’t mind me hopping in your ask box with Time Travel Thoughts- how do you think finnick and annie would fare in the 10th hunger games?

somehow, they’re in younger (reaping age) bodies and selected as tributes. they both know what the games are like in their times, but it’s different in such a (comparatively) small arena and capitol mentors. also, how do you think finnick and annie might interact with persephone and festus?

Hey backpacks! I don't mind at all, this is a great question!

I don't know if you meant that canon Annie and Finnick (ages 23/24) are the ones who time travel or if they time travel as they were when they were reaped/volunteered. I'm going to choose the second one for the sake of simplicity but I think they're both super interesting concepts!

Ok if we keep the same mentor arrangement from ballad, Festus would be with Annie and Persephone would be with Finnick. Honestly the Festus and Annie dynamic is not something that I've ever thought about but it's so funny to me now! Annie (in my head) is a career who has trained her whole life for the Games. She knows every arena, every victor, everything there is to know about the Games. So I think she'd be really put off by Festus trying to tell her what to do as if she doesn't know what she's talking about. (Although Festus would probably be glad to have someone who wants to win, even if they wouldn't get along).

I think the Finnick and Persephone dynamic would be really similar to her dynamic with Mizzen, since Finnick is only fourteen. He's a career in the sense that he trained, but he was reaped before he was ready. I think Finnick and Persephone would really get along. Finnick, even at fourteen, is very perceptive, and I think he would recognize the severity of his situation and the need for allies, however he can find them. So I think he'd see that Persephone's kindness is genuine and decide to work with her, and from there I think they have the potential to become friends.

Unfortunately I think Finnick's victory hinged a lot on how the Games worked at the time. Not only did he have Capitol sponsors who were pulling for him, he used his age to fly under the radar and let the older kids who volunteered commandeer the attention until he got his trident. In the 10th Games, when nobody volunteered, he's just another unlucky kid. He could probably appeal to the sponsors, but at that point in the Capitol, I don't think anyone's sending tridents. He has a decent chance because of his training, but he's not winning this one.

Annie has a much better chance. She's eighteen, strong, and has a decade of training to back her up. I think she'd be one of the strongest competitors in that arena, and even if Festus doesn't care about her, he cares about winning for his own sake. I'm not sure how the Capitol would react to Annie's competency in the arena. Obviously in her time they enjoyed seeing initiative like that, but in the 10th Games, they might be put off by her enthusiasm.

Finally, the 10th Games are so much more primitive and don't hide their brutality like they do in the original trilogy. This could mess with either of their minds and disorient or further traumatize them. They trained for the Games as they are in the 60s/70s, not for whatever the 10th Games are. It's a very different situation that they may not be equipped to handle. But who knows? Maybe they learn about the evolution of the Games at the Academy, or maybe Mags told them about her arena experience!

before starting episode 3 of Sunset x Vibes i scrolled past some screenshots? gifs? from this episode and straight up thought it was pictures from one of Mos and Bank's travel videos, and now that i'm 15 minutes in to the episode i'm still not sure that that's not what i'm watching right now

time travel fix it au's are done to death in this fandom but also they're my favourite thing in the world so au where the entire show happens as is and it's heartbreaking and inspiring etc but then. restart button. waking back up at the start of the end except only the people that lived remember

wanna think about what would happen when daryl and carol wake up at camp, remembering everything that happened; carol stronger, knowing in her gut that everything that she remembers is real, and daryl fucking terrified, because if everything in his head actually happened, then what the fuck is this

wanna think about a rick dragging a hostile merle and a wide-eyed glenn back to camp, memories completely intact, and running to reunite with his family. not letting daryl go and hugging carol so so so tight, collapsing to the ground with carl in his arms

wanna think about them dragging the atlanta group to the farm, maggie leaving the front porch light on for them, and everyone reuniting. rick seeing hershel again, daryl seeing beth, carol pulling sophia close, and maggie being unable to even breath, looking at glenn

wanna think about them tossing up whether to even go to the prison, but they met important people there, and alexandria's a long way, and if they're gonna survive this time–if they're gonna live–they're gonna do it right

so they go to the prison so they can figure out their next step, and michonne's there and waiting, andre on her hip, and they deal with the governor before the governor deals with them, and sasha and tyresse finally show up, they find the prisoners, and then one day they get a knock on the front gate, and it's negan

negan showing up, no baseball bat in hand but his leather jacket still in place, a sick but alive lucille by his side, laura and doctor franklin behind him, and all he's got to say is at the end of the world, i know which side i wanna be on

the fallout of that, of maggie being against it, of rick never having gotten to see negan at the end, not knowing the choices he made, the good and the bad. daryl and carol looking at glenn, seeing him alive and in love and having no memory of his last moments, and never wanting anything to ruin that, but negan saved judiths life, helped save all their lives. he chose, in the end, and now it's their turn

wanna think about a future where beth doesn't die, but they go on a rescue mission to get noah anyway. a future where tara turns up with her niece, led by eugene with abraham and rosita following right behind him

wanna think about how they'd handle terminus, how they'd handle the claimers. wanna think about them trying to find father gabriel, except gabe made it the first time around, and he wasn't wasting his second chance. he saved his flock, and he led them to alexandria, and he's waiting

wanna think of connie's group searching for hilltop. not finding maggie, or alden, but finding jesus. wanna think about lydia, being a fucking child, and watching her mother kill her dad, and remembering aaron telling her how loved she was

wanna think of the growing pains of them being able to save so many more family members this time, but god, a larger group is harder to keep alive

daryl trying to run interference with merle and everyone else, getting the jack of it one day and telling him he's already mourned him once, and he won't again. if merle wants to stay–to live–then it's up to him. daryl's not gonna babysit him anymore

rick trying to find his footing between lori and shane and judith, with carl, with michonne and andre. michonne looking at a weak but alive lori grimes holding a screaming and crying newborn in her arms, and knowing that she's never gonna be her daughter the way she was before, but knowing she'll always be something to her

carol struggling to be the mother sophia needs her to be, emotions too sharp and constantly fucking terrified. doesn't know how to hold onto someone like that anymore, either gripping too tight or not at all

maggie trying to exist in a world where she has everyone she's ever loved back, so close and so fucking dear, except it cost her her son. not knowing if she'll ever get him back at all. doesn't know how to live with the grief of losing someone she never technically had in this world

they make it to alexandria and it's aaron opening the gate for them, waiting to welcome them home

• she’s having a themed bday party! in canon universe, it’s prob just a basic sea creature theme but in a modern au i think she’d be obsessed with those who dunnit murder mystery things. finnick would write out the script (spoiler: the culprit is buttercup)

• also i hc that she has a winter bday (even tho she’s a gemini at heart) so they have cute bonfires at the beach. shes wearing finnicks hoodie before they even arrive at the function

• i think she’d be a bundt cake girlie. in senior yr our fav teacher got us little mini ones and i think she’d really like the strawberry cheesecake flavored one

• not to be a debbie downer but i think she’s 100% a bday morning/night crier

• bedazzled bday girl tiara. hot pink feather boa. cat eye sunglasses. she is so ready to seize the day

• i think it’d be cute if finnick bought her little charms for her bracelets. after they’re together for a few years her collection obviously grows and she jingles when she walks

• she falls asleep w all her makeup on. finnick tried to take it off for her beforehand but she got too sleepy so he wakes up with mascara smudges on his shirt the next morning

• he definitely has a summer birthday. he and annie (and the gang in a modern au) spend it on the beach ducking under the waves and playing around like sea otters

• at first i was like “he’s a bday crier too” but honestly i think in any universe finnick would find some sort of comfort in aging

• he’s getting an ice cream cake. some sort of chocolate + strawberry combo

• he wakes up to annie blowing a birthday horn in his face. she didn’t use it to wake him up or anything she was waiting until he woke up on his own and instead of saying good morning she just starts going ham with it

• she makes him a birthday boy sash. johanna clowns the fuck out of him for it (when the time comes, she will be receiving her own sash for her bday. she wears it religiously)

• she’s baking finnick something obviously but i also think she’d maybe get a hoodie and embroider something on it for each birthday they spend together (this is similar to the charm bracelet she has, so after a few years together it’s like this giant mishmash of pretty patterns). annie is so horrible from keeping bday surprises from him

i hc that mags loves to bake but she’s not very good at it, so every bday she makes annie and finnick a sleeping beauty type cake that’s titling and has drippy icing and everything. and they obviously love it
