my favourite cards from the 2002 expedition base set!! 🥰

was posting abt the e-card series earlier, so i thought i'd have a look thru them and pick out + post my favs, cos the artwork from this era was soooo pretty 🥺

unfortunately, my e-card series collection is practically non-existent, so the only ones of these i actually have are a damaged version of the ninetales holo, a reverse holo of the dragonite, and the non-holo version of the mew 😔

OK SO starting with trainer cards since their system is slightly more complex than the Pokemon themselves:

Trainer cards are organized Item, Stadium, Supporter. The Trainer cards I have from the 20th century are in a subsection by themselves since they aren't divided Item, Stadium, Supporter. Within each section, I have them organized chronologically, so think the earliest cards I have past the 20th century in trainer cards is like 2006? Possibly 2003 but I'm not sure rn. Anyways within each time period of cards they're arranged alphabetically, so in 2016/2017 (I forget) Supporter Trainer cards, near the end of the subsection it's like Lana, Lana, Mallow, Mallow, Sophocles, Tierno, Tierno, Tierno. I don't layer the cards within the card protecters bc then its harder to count.

Now onto the Pokemon themselves! Each type (or type group, types under the same symbols are grouped together, like Ground & Fighting or Poison & Ghost & Psychic) is separated by color-coded construction paper in my binder. The first subsection of cards under each type is the normal cards- no energies, no holo/shiny. They're arranged alphabetically by basic stage, with each evolution following the basic evolution (even thought that deviates from the alphabetization) for example, in the fire section, even thought Braixen would go before Fennekin alphabetically, Braixen directly follows my Fennekins since it's the next evolution. Within evolutions, again using Fennekin as an example, they're chronologically ordered- so 2014 Fenniken, then 2016 Fennikens, then 2017, then Braixens. After the normal cards of each type, the shiny cards- again, arranged alphabetically by basic type if i have shiny evolution trees. After shinies comes energy cards, arranged chronologically, then special energies (I have a couple in Japanese and some of the Special Energy cards). Then, finally, shiny energies. My Pokemon organization system! (The cover to my binder has Squirtles on it) OH NOT TO MENTION I have an itsy bitsy binder with the SUPER special cards, like my $100 Squirtle or my BREAK cards or my full-art foil Dragonite, my holo Jirachi, etc.

Sometimes i wish i hung onto all my old pokemon cards for just a few years longer. Like sure, I’ve still got a bunch of promos from the 90s that could fetch a good price. But... hundreds of cards from 96-2005.... All gone. Sold for like $300 to a card store. Fair price in 2018.

BUT THEN I SEE THIS. I got $40 for this card. This exact one. Base set shadowless venusaur. Fucker is worth hundreds now. On ebay, I’m seeing this card going for $200-$1000 alone. This Is The Most Expensive Venusaur card. Ever. And i once Had One. 

I wish i had that apollo’s gift that would’ve told met there was going to be that massive spike in popularity of pokemon cards. Bc holy hell. All those first editions and whatevers could’ve paid for my whole pandemic without dipping into my savings. I literally just collected these as a kid bc they were cool and i liked the creatures. I never did learn how to play the card game lmao

@therealsomajesticdonki asked to see some of my fav cards so !!!!!! ya! i have them in a mini binder so i can bring em w me :] i dont care about their value it just makes me happy to look at them lol. the xerneas and palkia are some of the few full art cards i have i love them a lot . the top ones r so pretty they r at the front of the binder . dragonite is one of my fav pokemon :-]] i like a lot of the normal not holo ones but almost all of them r in that stack on my desk. the friends in galar is so cute i love them . i give my family and friends cards of which pokemon i think is them (my brother has a haunter and a mantine, and my mom has a gossifleur ) panpour is my card :]
