you are obsessed with your husband’s freckles <3 more on this! <3 a husband!rafe x wife!reader blurb <3 cw: none! just a lot of fluff, intentional use of lower case <3 dedicated to the one and only @chenslucy; happy birthday anna!! 💐 I love love love you and i know I am late, but this is my small token of gratitude of how supportive you've been since the beginning 🦕
part of this little universe <3
the moonlight cascades over the white sheets under which you and your husband are snuggled close to each other. it’s nearing 2 in the morning, and rafe is asleep with his bare back facing you, your arm slinging over his waist and your face nestled against his back as you let his warmth flood over you completely.
you watch his body rise and fall with each relaxing breath he takes in his deep slumber, your own mind at complete peace watching him take his proper rest.
the silver glow casting through the windows of your bedroom dances along rafe’s skin, the small freckles littered all over his shoulders lighting up under the moonlight. you gently run your fingertips over the freckles, letting out a soft sigh as you feel his skin under your own touch. his skin is a complete contrast to his brooding demeanor; it feels so soft and supple beneath your touch that you glide your fingertips effortlessly over his shoulders.
his freckles though, as always, stand out the most to you as you shower them with your gentle touch. you reach out with the fingertip of your index finger and gently tap over each freckle as you quietly count them under your breath, something you do often when you find yourself awake late at night. it helps you fall into a slumber yourself, the activity feeling equivalent to counting sheep. sometimes, you find this small activity distracting you from your stresses and anxieties, your mind busying itself with wanting to know the exact number of freckles littered over his shoulders which over the course of time helps you feel more relaxed over the little things that are bothering you.
your finger trails over to his other shoulder to resume the count, the numbers progressing under your breath as you tap every freckle you can spot under the pale light of the moon.
you reach what you assume is the last freckle and stop the count, letting out a deep exhale as you finish the count. each time you do this certain activity, you turn up with a different number, although the result is always quite close to all the other results you get. some freckles go unnoticed by you, and sometimes you spot new ones that you are sure weren’t there before. but that’s the beauty of it; it’s not a predictable activity, it gives you a new conclusion every single time, and that makes you appreciate the freckles on his body even more.
you lean closer and press your lips gently to the freckles, peppering the softest kisses over the smooth skin. your heart is almost bursting with your deep love for him as you press kisses over kisses, starting to feel his body gently shift in bed.
he slowly starts to turn on his back and you pull back from his shoulder, watching his eyes slowly open and sleepily meet yours.
“hey,” he murmurs, his voice carrying the raspy tinge it always does after he wakes up.
“hey,” you murmur back, resting your head on his chest and he wraps an arm around your shoulders to keep you close.
“can’t sleep?” his soft voice reaches your ears as you shake your head against his chest, feeling him look down at you through his barely open eyes.
you look up at his face, your eyes trailing down his shoulders as you gaze upon the freckles again. your hand reaches up to run your fingers over them just like you were doing just a few moments ago. rafe lets out a deep exhale at your actions, feeling your fingertips circling over his shoulder in the most soothing fashion, his eyelids threatening to droop again.
“it’s okay, sleep,” you whisper as you watch how hard it is getting for him to keep his eyes open. rafe makes a feeble attempt to say something, but his tiredness wins over and he drifts off again, the feeling of your touch lulling him into sleep faster than ever.
you smile softly as you hear his breathing getting even, his heartbeat thumping rhythmically against your ear. you start to gently count the freckles again, tapping your fingertip over each spot just like how you always do. the counting falls perfectly in rhythm with his soothing heartbeat, and before you know it, you feel your own eyelids getting heavier, your entire body relaxing under the feeling of his comforting embrace.

Safe Space
Pairing: Matt Casey x Reader
Requested: no
Summary: After a bad day, Y/N returns home to her very own safe space.
Tumblr media
Word Count: 800+
Tags/Warnings: fluff
A/N: Written for my best girl @seatsbythepit, I hope you like this!
MATT CASEY MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
Days like these were the worst.
It was bad enough you’d had to cover for people who weren’t pulling their own weight in the team. But of course, like they said, bad things came in threes. At least it was never just one thing.
Everything that seemed to go wrong, did. Then, there came the finger pointing, the backstabbing, and your boss’ yelling.
You were practically drained by the time the office was emptying out.
Yet, the universe didn’t seem to be ready to let you off for the day.
You’d passed a cafe on your way back, grabbing an ice cream on a whim, hoping that your mood would have improved by the time you saw Matt that evening. You weren’t crazy about ending the day on a less than happy note, and you hated making Matt feel down with you as well.
You’d just taken two steps down the street with the ice cream in your hand when a guy had rushed past, practically crashing into you.
The force sent you stumbling at least three steps backward, and you’d barely managed to stay upright but your ice cream had ended up top down on the street.
“Would you at least watch where you’re going!” The guy yelled.
On any other day you might have ignored him, but you’d had more than enough unreasonable people in your face for the day.
“You bumped into me.” You responded, keeping your voice as even as you could. “And that’s my ice cream you knocked out of my hand.”
The man glared at you, flashing a rude sign at you and muttering about how you were lucky he was in a rush before he continued his way down the street.
That only served to worsen your mood but you headed home anyway, feeling the fatigue of the day start to hit you.
You stood outside the door of the apartment you shared with Matt for just a minute. You weren’t sure if Matt was already home. He wasn’t on shift today but he’d been working on a construction project and hadn’t been sure of his timing.
Just in case, you steadied your emotions as best as you could before you opened the door.
Matt was indeed home, and he heard you the moment the door opened.
“Hey babe!” You heard his voice first, before he appeared before you, leaning in to give you a welcome home kiss. “You’re a little later than usual.”
You smiled back at Matt, feeling your emotions stabilize a little just by seeing him standing in front of you. “Yeah, I just took a little detour to pick up some things.”
Your words sounded lame as you heard them, but even so, you thought you’d handled it pretty well, considering.
Matt, however, seemed to pick up on everything. The look in your eyes, the tone in your voice, or the smile that didn’t fully reach your eyes.
Matt's brows furrowed, just a little. “Y/N?”
You weren’t sure what it was that caused the prick of tears. Maybe it was the soft tone of Matt’s voice, or just the fact that Matt was standing right in front of you.
“Yeah, I’m…” You couldn’t even finish your sentence before Matt pulled you into his arms, your face fitting snugly into his shoulder.
That was all it took before you were a mess, the frustrations of the day seeming to flow out with each tear that soaked into Matt’s shirt.
Matt didn’t ask you anything, merely holding you tight against him.
When your shoulders stopped shaking, Matt spoke, “We’ve got pasta and I can pop out the wine that Kelly brought the last time he was here.”
You smiled through the residual tears. “Sounds perfect.”
That’s how you and Matt ended up on the couch after the meal, the plates forgotten in the dishwasher as you cuddled into his side. The television was on, but you weren’t really paying attention, your head laying on Matt’s chest, close enough that you could hear the regular thump of his heart.
“You want to talk about it?” Matt asked quietly, adjusting the quilt he’d draped over you earlier.
You shrugged but told him anyway, starting to feel a little stupid about your mini meltdown.
“It’s not really a big deal, I don’t know why…”
“Hey.” Matt interrupted you. “If it's a big deal to you, it's a big deal."
You didn’t say anything, merely scooting closer.
Matt’s arm tightened around you. “But I’m glad you know I’m here. No matter what.”
That’s when it hit you, the realization of what had caused the onslaught of tears. The only place you could let go, be yourself and allow your emotions to take over was your safe place.
“Thank you Matt.” You whispered quietly, almost to yourself.
Matt pressed a kiss to the crown of your head. “I love you too.” He responded.
This was indeed your very own safe place - Matthew Casey.

Descendants James Hook x Reader: Melting Under His Gaze

----------------------------------------------------------
Y/n had always known her place in Arendelle. As the middle child, she was neither as responsible as Elsa nor as carefree as Anna. But like Elsa, she was burdened with a secret. The same icy powers coursed through her veins, a frosty magic she was taught to suppress. "Conceal, don't feel." had become her mantra, whispered to herself during sleepless nights and quiet, lonely days.
After the devastating news of their parents' death at sea, the castle felt emptier than ever. The corridors that once echoed with laughter now held only the heavy silence of grief. Elsa, at eighteen, was suddenly thrust into the role of queen, while Y/n, at sixteen, found herself struggling to keep her emotions and her powers in check. Anna, fifteen and still full of youthful innocence, tried her best to lift everyone's spirits, even as she dealt with her own heartbreak.
Tonight, as the sisters sat together in the dim light of the castle’s drawing room, Y/n unfolded a letter she had received earlier that day. The parchment crinkled in her trembling hands, the weight of the words inside pressing down on her.
“What’s that, Y/n?” Anna asked, glancing up from the embroidery she was working on. Her voice was light, but there was a trace of concern in her eyes.
Y/n hesitated, her gaze flickering to Elsa, who sat quietly by the window, lost in thought. Elsa met her eyes and gave a small, almost unnoticable nod. Y/n took a deep breath and forced a smile. “It’s... just something from school.” she replied, trying to keep her voice steady.
Anna’s face lit up with curiosity. “School? Are they starting classes again? It must be a distraction at least, right?”
Y/n nodded, though her thoughts were far from the normalcy of schoolwork. “Yeah, something like that.”
Anna frowned slightly, sensing something was off, but she didn’t press further. Instead, she returned to her embroidery, her movements slower, more distracted. Y/n could tell that Anna was still struggling with their parents’ death, just as they all were.
As the evening wore on, Anna excused herself, saying she was tired. “I think I’ll head to bed.” she said, standing and stretching. “You two should get some rest too.” She leaned down to hug Elsa first, then Y/n, before slipping out of the room with a soft, “Goodnight.”
The moment the door closed behind Anna, Y/n let out a shaky breath. She unfolded the letter again, staring at the elegant script. “I’ve been accepted to Merlin Academy.” she said quietly, more to herself than to Elsa.
Elsa turned her gaze from the window to Y/n, her expression a mix of pride and concern. “It’s a great opportunity, Y/n. You’ll be able to learn so much about your powers, about yourself.”
Y/n’s voice trembled as she spoke, the fears she had kept buried for so long surfacing in a rush. “But what if I can’t control it, Elsa? What if I hurt someone? What if they find out?”
Elsa stood and crossed the room to sit beside Y/n. She took her sister’s hand in hers, her touch cool but comforting. “I know it’s scary. I feel that fear too, every day. But Merlin Academy is where you’ll be safe. It’s where you’ll learn to control your powers, to understand them. You won’t be alone.”
Y/n nodded, but the doubt lingered. “And what about Anna? She doesn’t know. How can I leave without telling her the truth?”
Elsa’s expression softened with sympathy. “Anna has already lost so much. I think it’s best if we keep this between us, at least for now. She doesn’t need another burden to carry, not right now.”
Y/n’s heart ached at the thought of keeping such a big secret from Anna, but she knew Elsa was right. Anna was already struggling to cope with their parents’ death, adding the truth about their powers might be too much for her to process.
“I’ll write to her often.” Y/n said, her voice thick with emotion. “I’ll tell her it’s just a regular school. But Elsa... I’m scared.”
Elsa wrapped an arm around Y/n, pulling her close. “I know, Y/n. I’m scared too. But you’re strong, stronger than you think. And no matter what happens, we’ll always have each other.”
Y/n leaned into Elsa’s embrace, drawing strength from her sister’s calm presence. The path ahead seemed intimidating, filled with uncertainty and fear. How could she hide what she was for an entire school year?
-----
When Y/n arrived at Merlin Academy, the grand stone castle seemed to tower over her, its ancient walls full of mysteries and magic. The place was alive with energy, a big contrast to the quiet halls of the castle in Arendelle. Here, students openly showcased their powers and talents without fear. Fire danced on fingertips, water swirled effortlessly, and the earth itself seemed to respond to the commands of one particularly enthusiastic student. But Y/n, true to her promise, kept her powers locked inside, her heart frozen with the weight of her secret.
Everywhere she looked, there was something magical happening, yet Y/n couldn’t shake the feeling of being out of place. Her steps were cautious, her demeanor guarded, as if any wrong move might shatter the fragile control she had over her powers. She avoided the crowds, keeping to the edges of the bustling groups, hoping to remain unnoticed. But she quickly realized that in a place like Merlin Academy, secrets were hard to keep.
It was during one of those early days, as she wandered the academy’s grand gardens alone, that Y/n first encountered James Hook. The moment she saw him, she knew he wasn’t like the other students. He stood out in every possible way. His crimson coat, tailored perfectly to his tall, lean frame, contrasted sharply with his dark hair, which fell in unruly waves just above his sharp, blue eyes. There was a dangerous sort of charm about him, the kind that warned of trouble even as it invited you closer.
Y/n had heard the rumors, of course. Whispers that followed him wherever he went about him being a ruthless pirate, about the lost treasure he was supposedly seeking within the academy’s walls. She knew enough to keep her distance, but it seemed that James had other plans.
While Y/n tried to find a quiet spot to study, she heard a voice behind her, smooth and laced with a hint of amusement. “What’s a delicate thing like you doing all alone out here?”
She turned sharply to find James leaning casually against a tree, his piercing blue eyes locked on her with a gaze that felt almost predatory, yet strangely protective. Her heart raced, a mix of fear and something she couldn’t quite place.
“I prefer it that way.” she replied, trying to keep her voice steady. “Less… complicated.”
James’s lips curled into a sly smile as he pushed off the tree and came closer, his boots crunching softly on the gravel path. “Less complicated, hm? Or less risky?” He tilted his head, his gaze never leaving hers. “You don’t strike me as the type to avoid a little danger.”
Y/n swallowed, instinctively taking a step back. “I don’t know what you mean.”
“Oh, I think you do.” he said, his voice dropping to a low, teasing tone. “I’ve seen you, you know. Always on the outside, watching, but never participating. It’s as if you’re afraid of your own shadow.”
Her heart pounded in her chest. How could he have noticed her when she’d tried so hard to go unnoticed? “I’m not afraid.” she lied, lifting her chin slightly, trying to appear more confident than she felt.
“Is that so?” James mused, stepping even closer until he was just a few feet away. He looked her over, as if trying to unravel the mystery she had so carefully wrapped around herself. “You don’t fool me, Y/n. There’s something different about you. Something… intriguing.”
Y/n’s breath hitched at the way he said her name, like it was a secret only they shared. “What do you want, James?” she asked, trying to keep her voice from trembling.
He smirked, leaning in just enough that she could catch a hint of the sea on his clothes. “Maybe I’m just curious. You don’t seem like the other students. You’re too… restrained. It makes me wonder what you’re hiding.”
“I’m not hiding anything.” she insisted, her voice sharper than she intended. She could feel the cold creeping into her fingertips, and she clenched her hands into fists, trying to suppress the icy magic that threatened to reveal itself.
James’s eyes flickered down to her clenched fists, a glint of understanding or perhaps amusement crossing his features. “Everyone has something to hide, darling.” he murmured. “The trick is knowing when to reveal it.”
Y/n felt a chill run down her spine, and she stepped back again, desperate to put some distance between them. “I need to go.” she said quickly, turning to leave before he could say anything more.
But James wasn’t one to be dismissed so easily. “I’ll be seeing you around, princess.” he called after her, his voice laced with a promise that made her heart skip a beat.
As she hurried away, Y/n couldn’t shake the feeling that James Hook was more dangerous than she’d first thought and that he had already set his sights on discovering her deepest secret. But there was something else too, something that lingered in the back of her mind, unsettling and confusing her. The way his gaze seemed to see right through her, as if he understood her fear better than anyone else. Y/n found herself questioning whether she could truly keep her powers and her heart, frozen.
-----
One afternoon, Y/n sat near the sea, trying desperately to lose herself in the pages of a book. The rhythmic sound of waves crashing against the shore had always been a way to calm herself, a place where she could momentarily forget the icy storm brewing inside her. But today, no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t escape the thoughts swirling in her mind, the fear, the loneliness, the unbearable weight of her secret.
The book in her hands was just another attempt to distract herself, but the words blurred together as her anxiety crept up, tightening its grip around her chest. Just as she was about to close it in frustration, a shadow fell over her, blocking the sunlight and pulling her back to reality.
She looked up to see James standing before her, his familiar smirk playing on his lips. His dark hair was tousled by the sea breeze, and his blue eyes sparkled with a mixture of curiosity and something else, something that made her heart skip a beat, even as her fear bubbled beneath the surface.
“Mind if I join you, princess?” he asked, but without waiting for her response, he settled onto the bench beside her, his presence both comforting and unsettling all at once.
Y/n stiffened, clutching her book tighter as if it could shield her from the emotions threatening to spill over. “I was hoping for some peace and quiet.” she murmured, her voice betraying the fear she was trying so hard to hide.
James leaned back, completely at ease. “Aye, I could tell.” he said, his voice smooth and warm, like honey. “But it’s the quiet ones who always have the most interesting stories.”
She kept her eyes fixed on the book, even though she knew she wouldn’t be able to read another word. “There’s nothing interesting about me.” she replied, her tone flat, hoping to end the conversation before it could begin.
“Is that so, princess?” James raised an eyebrow, his smirk softening into something more genuine, though no less intense. “I’ve seen the way you look at the others, like you’re afraid to get too close. What are you hiding?”
His words hit her like a punch to the gut. He was getting too close, digging too deep, and Y/n felt her control slipping. She stood up abruptly, the book nearly falling from her grasp. “Nothing that concerns you.” she snapped, her voice sharper than she intended. Panic was clawing at her now, threatening to break free.
But as she turned to leave, James reached out, his hand catching her wrist with a gentle but firm grip. His touch was warm, so different from the cold she carried within. “I think it does concern me.” he said softly, his voice losing its usual playful edge. “I can see it in your eyes, darling. You’re afraid, but of what?”
Y/n tried to pull away, but the warmth of his hand, the sincerity in his gaze, it all made her want to crumble, to let go of the iron grip she had on her emotions. She could feel the cold creeping up her spine, could sense the frost forming on her skin, and she knew she was losing control. “You wouldn’t understand,” she whispered, her voice trembling with the effort to keep herself together.
“Try me.” James urged, stepping closer, his thumb brushing over her knuckles in a soothing, almost tender gesture.
But it was too late. The storm inside her was raging, and she could no longer hold it back. The fear, the loneliness, the crushing weight of her secret, all of it surged to the surface. A cold gust of wind whipped around them, and before she could stop it, frost began to spread across the ground, spiraling out from where she stood. The book in her hand fell to the ground, forgotten, as she clutched at her arms, trying to contain the icy power that was slipping out of her control.
“No, no, no…” she whispered, terror lacing her voice as she backed away, but there was nowhere to go. The ice was curling around her like a cage, and she couldn’t stop it. She felt the cold seeping into her bones, the frost creeping up her arms, and she knew she was seconds away from losing herself completely.
But instead of backing away in fear, James stepped closer, his eyes locked on hers, determent. “Y/n.” he called to her, his voice cutting through the chaos in her mind. “Look at me.”
She did, her breath coming in ragged gasps, her vision blurring with unshed tears. The ice crackled and snapped around her, but James wasn’t afraid. He reached out, cupping her face in his hands, the warmth of his touch chasing away the cold that threatened to consume her.
“You don’t have to be afraid.” he said, his voice low and steady, grounding her in the here and now. “I’m here. I’m not going anywhere.”
Y/n’s breathing was unstable, the panic still clawing at her insides, but James’s touch, his words, they were like a lifeline pulling her back from the edge. “I—I can’t stop it.” she choked out, the tears finally spilling over and freezing as they fell.
“Yes, you can,” James whispered, leaning in until their foreheads touched, his warmth seeping into her skin, melting the frost that had begun to form. “You can control this, Y/n. I know you can.”
She wanted to believe him, but the fear was still there, gripping her heart in a vise. The cold was still there too, a deadly force she had never been able to fully tame. “I’m going to hurt you.” she whispered, her voice breaking with the weight of her fear.
“You won’t.” James murmured, his thumb brushing away the frozen tear on her cheek. “Not as long as I’m here.”
And then, before she could protest, before the fear could take hold of her again, he closed the distance between them, capturing her lips in a kiss that was both gentle and firm. The world around them seemed to freeze for a moment, literally and figuratively, but then the ice inside her began to melt, slowly, as if his warmth was thawing the cold she had kept locked away for so long.
The kiss deepened, and with it, Y/n felt the storm inside her calm. The frost that had been spreading across the ground withdrawing, the biting cold in her veins dulled, and the panic that had consumed her began to fade. All she could feel was James, his warmth, his strength, the way he held her like she was something precious, not something to be feared.
When they finally pulled apart, James rested his forehead against hers, their breaths mingling in the cool air. “You’re not alone anymore, love.” he whispered, his voice full of quiet determination. “You never have to be.”
Y/n let out a shaky breath, her heart finally starting to slow to a normal rhythm. The ice inside her had faded, leaving only a faint chill that she could handle. She looked up at James, searching his eyes for any hint of fear or regret, but all she saw was warmth and an unexpected tenderness that made her want to cry all over again.
“Thank you.” she whispered, her voice still trembling but stronger than before.
“Anything for you, princess.” he replied with a soft smile, stealing one more kiss that made her feel a warmth she hadn’t known in years.
As the warmth of James’s kiss lingered on Y/n’s lips, the tension that had build up inside her began to loosen. The frost on the ground had melted away, leaving only damp patches where the ice had once spread. For a moment, the world felt still, as if holding its breath with her. But reality crept back in, the weight of what had just happened settling heavily on her shoulders.
Y/n took a shaky step back, her hand still entwined with James’s, but her mind already racing with a thousand thoughts. What had she just done? She had lost control, let her powers loose in a way that could have endangered him, and yet… he wasn’t afraid. Not only that, he had calmed her, brought her back from the brink, something no one had ever been able to do before.
“James,” she began, her voice hesitant as she tried to find the right words. “I… I’m sorry. I didn’t mean for any of this to happen. I could have—”
He silenced her with a gentle kiss on her hand, his eyes soft as they met hers. “You don’t have to apologize, Y/n.” he said, his voice steady, reassuring. “I told you, you don’t have to hide from me. I’m not afraid of what you can do.”
His words were like a balm to her unsettling nerves, but they also stirred something deeper within her, something she hadn’t allowed herself to feel in a long time, hope. Hope that maybe, just maybe, she didn’t have to carry this burden alone anymore.
“But you should be.” she whispered, her voice barely audible over the sound of the waves. “Everyone else is. They always have been. Just like they have been of Elsa… She tried to protect me, to help me, but I could see it in her eyes. She was scared too.”
James’s expression softened even more, his gaze filled with understanding. “People fear what they don’t understand, love. But I’m not like them. I see you, really see you. And I’m not going anywhere, other then being by your side.”
Y/n felt her heart squeeze painfully in her chest. She wanted to believe him, wanted to hold onto the warmth he offered, but the fear was still there, gnawing at the edges of her mind. “But what if I lose control again? What if I hurt someone?”
“You won’t.” James said firmly, his grip on her hand tightening just enough to ground her. “Not as long as I’m here with you. We’ll figure this out together, okay? You don’t have to do this alone.”
The sincerity in his voice, the confidence he had in her, was almost overwhelming. Y/n felt the last of her defenses crumble as she nodded slowly, her heart aching with a mixture of fear and gratitude. “Okay.” she whispered, her voice thick with emotion.
James smiled, a genuine, warm smile that made her heart flutter in a way she hadn’t felt in a long time. “Good ” he said, pulling her into a gentle embrace. She hesitated for a moment before leaning into him, letting herself be held, letting herself feel safe.
For a few minutes, they stayed like that, the sound of the waves crashing softly in the background, the world seeming to fade away. Y/n felt herself relax more with each passing second, the ice within her settling into a quiet, manageable calm.
But as the sun began to dip lower in the sky, casting long shadows across the shore, Y/n knew they couldn’t stay here forever. She pulled back slightly, looking up at James with a mixture of resolve and uncertainty. “What now?” she asked quietly.
James tilted his head, considering her for a moment before responding. “Now,” he said, “if we’re going to figure all this out, maybe it’s time you started practicing, really using your powers.”
Y/n held her breath, her eyes widening slightly as she looked at him. “You mean… now? Out here?” The idea of intentionally using her powers, after everything that had just happened, sent a shiver down her spine, but not entirely from fear. There was a part of her, buried deep, that longed to be free, to see what she could truly do.
James nodded, his expression earnest. “Why not? You’ve been holding back for so long, love. What if you tried letting go, just a little? You don’t have to be afraid. I’ll be right here.”
His encouragement, so simple yet so powerful, struck a chord within her. Maybe he was right. Maybe it was time to stop hiding, to stop fearing herself. She took a deep breath, feeling the familiar cold rise within her, but this time, she didn’t push it away. She let it fill her, let it flow through her veins like a river of ice.
“Okay.” she whispered, more to herself than to him. She closed her eyes, focusing on the sensation of the cold, on the power that had always been a part of her. The air around her began to chill, the wind picking up as she let the ice take form.
James stepped back slightly, giving her space, but his eyes never left her. There was no fear in his gaze, only wonder and something that looked very much like admiration. “Don't fight it.” he murmured, his voice low and steady. “Just feel the ice course through you and work with it, not against it.”
Encouraged by his words, Y/n opened her eyes, her heart pounding as she raised her hands, palms facing down toward her clothes. With a gentle flick of her fingers, the cold surged outward, wrapping around her like a second skin. The fabric of her clothes shimmered and began to change, the colors deepening into a rich, icy blue. The material lengthened and flowed like water, forming into a dress that sparkled with the light of a thousand tiny snowflakes. The bodice hugged her figure, intricate patterns of frost weaving themselves into the fabric, while the skirt flared out in an elegant, sweeping train. Even her shoes transformed, the delicate heels now made of glistening ice, as strong and tough as winter itself.
When she finally lowered her hands, Y/n could hardly believe what she had done. She stared down at herself, at the beautiful dress she had created, and for the first time, she felt a sense of pride in her powers, in who she was.
James, who had watched the entire transformation in awed silence, let out a low whistle. “Y/n.” he breathed, his voice filled with genuine admiration. “You… you look absolutly stunning, I have never had the honor to be in the pressence of such a beautiful and powerful woman.”
His words made her blush, the warmth of his gaze almost overwhelming. She glanced up at him, suddenly shy, but the way he looked at her, like she was something you would only read about, made her heart skip a beat. “Thank you.” she said softly, her voice tinged with a mixture of gratitude and disbelief.
James took a step closer, his eyes never leaving hers. “You should never have to hide this, Y/n. You’re amazing, and what you can do… it’s indescribable how beautiful it is.”
Y/n felt her breath catch in her throat. No one had ever spoken to her like this, had ever made her feel like her powers were something to be celebrated rather than feared. The sincerity in James’s voice, the way he looked at her with such affection, it was almost too much to take in.
He reached out, gently taking her hand in his. The warmth of his touch melted the last of her doubts, and she found herself smiling, really smiling, for the first time in what felt like forever. “I don’t know what to say.” she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper.
“You don’t have to say anything.” James replied, his thumb brushing over her knuckles in a gesture that sent a thrill through her. “Just remember this feeling. This is who you are, Y/n. Not the fear, not the doubt, this.”
The intensity of his words, the raw honesty in his eyes, made Y/n’s heart swell. Without thinking, she stepped closer, drawn to him by something she couldn’t quite name. And when James didn’t pull away, when he instead cupped her face with that same gentle touch, she knew, this was where she was meant to be. Y/n found herself glancing at James, feeling something new, a warmth that had nothing to do with her powers and everything to do with him.

the tower at midnight — jack champion
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
word count: 2,394
pairing: jack champion x shy!fem!reader
summary: jack and y/n are working on a rom-com together. because of her shyness and crush on him, y/n is really closed off and jack is determined to change that.
Tumblr media
WHEN Y/N AUDITIONED FOR THE ROLE OF ANNA IN THE NETFLIX ADAPTATION OF ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS, she would’ve never ever—not even in her wildest dreams—imagined that the boy who played Étienne St. Clair (the love interest) would be Jack Champion, her celebrity crush.
Jack knew he had soft spot for her from the moment they met, at the cast presentation/meeting. Y/N had been standing awkwardly by the door because, just like him, she had arrived earlier than the rest.
“Hi, you must be Y/N” he gave her a wide smile, showing his perfect teeth and cute dimples. Y/N couldn’t believe he was even more perfect in person.
“Hi… yes” she shifted awkwardly. Her nostrils caught the scent of his strong and sweet cologne, and she instantly became addicted.
“I’m Jack! Nice to meet you! I’m really excited to be working with you” Jack’s voice was the complete opposite of hers—loud, excited, confident, steady.
“Thanks, me too” she sent him a soft smile, which was enough to send Jack’s heart beats on a marathon.
“It’s your first acting role, right?” he asked, interested in knowing more about the girl. Y/N nodded shyly. “Don’t worry. I’m sure you’ll do amazing! I know it can seem very intimidating, but you’ll be okay”.
“Thank you” Y/N smiled gratefully. She was completely entranced by him, by his kindness and by his warmth.
“What are you listening to?” he asked, eyeing the earphone that hung from my neck.
“Um, the Mamma Mia soundtrack” she replied, cheeks red as she offered him one of the earphones. He beamed at her, and accepted it. They both sat together in comfortable silence, humming to the ABBA songs as they waited for the rest of the cast.
Tumblr media
JACK THOUGHT THAT BY THE PASSING DAYS, Y/N WOULD WARM UP TO HIM AT LEAST A LITTLE. But he had been totally wrong, she even became more reserved than the day they met.
He only heard her voice when they were doing a scene, and it was weird to see the contrast between them when they were playing Anna and Étienne—two friends who were clearly into each other—and the real Y/N and Jack—two people who didn’t interact at all behind cameras. It was like living two lives, and Jack liked what he felt with Y/N when they were doing a scene together. Her eyes held a certain spark when she looked at him, and she blushed so prettily and her soft voice was just so enthralling… she was a great actress and Jack was beginning to think he was really not acting the attraction towards her at all.
Little did he know, Y/N wasn’t acting either. She liked him, a lot, and wished she wasn’t so shy because she really wanted to spend more time with Jack when the cameras weren’t near them. But Y/N knew she would make a fool of herself, and would be extremely obvious about her feelings, and weirding Jack out by her little crush was the last thing Y/N wanted. So, she stayed in her own little bubble while she enjoyed his company during the interactions between Anna and Étienne.
But Jack was not going to let it stay like that. And, one day, after they finished a scene, he followed Y/N to her trailer.
“Hey, do you mind if I stay with you?” Jack asked as she opened the door.
Y/N looked surprised “No… it’s okay” she said in a low tone. Jack smiled and held the door open for her. “Thanks” she muttered, her stomach squirming. He really was perfect.
There wasn’t a conversation at all. And one might think that would’ve been awkward as hell, but it wasn’t. Y/N felt comfortable, and Jack enjoyed her company even when they didn’t talk at all. So they did the same the next day, and the following one, and soon it became their little religion.
Y/N wondered why he kept going—not that she minded, of course. But he could spend his free time with other cast members who actually talked to him, and instead Jack sat in complete silence with her for minutes, not even attempting to make a conversation. She couldn’t help but ask.
“Why do you do this?” her question surprised him, and he paused the game he was playing on his phone.
“What?” Jack asked confused.
“You know, sit with me everyday, when I’m the most boring person to hang out” her voice was little.
Because I like you, he was tempted to say. But he didn’t want her to run away “You’re not boring. Sometimes conversations are overrated, you know? And it feels nice to hang out with you, you make me feel at peace”.
Y/N blushed. No one had ever said that to her ‘make me feel at peace’. Most people left her alone when they got the memo that she didn’t want to talk. Jack didn’t. “I… feel the same about you. I’m comfortable with you, and it’s… funny to watch you furrow your eyes when you are struggling at your game” she admitted, letting out a small laugh.
Jack’s smile appeared almost as a reflect. She had no idea how much he liked her “And I think it’s funny how you squirm whenever a kissing scene comes up in your book”.
Y/N’s body grew hot. “I just like when the characters finally kiss. I get invested a lot”
“Have you read Anna and the french kiss before the adaptation was announced?” Jack asked.
The girl smiled, she loved talking about rom-coms. “Of course. It’s one of my favorite romances. In fact, it enters my top five”.
“Oh, let’s see. Tell me your top” he asked, moving to sit next to her.
“At number five, Kisses and croissants—which like Anna, is set on Paris—, then The Happy Place—it’s really heart wrenching but it’s so good—, The do-over—I love it, it’s very original—, Anna and the french kiss—I absolutely love the whole Paris exploration and the romance and friendship between Anna and St. Clair is impeccable… and then, my absolute favorite is-“
“Wait! Drumrolls” he interrupted her, before making the sound.
Y/N laughed “Better than the movies, of course. Best romance I’ve ever read”.
“Oh, I know that one! I’ve been fan casted as the main character” Jack said.
As if I didn’t know, she said internally. He was the perfect Wes Bennet, and now that she actually knew him, she couldn’t deny it. “I know” she confessed.
“Really? What do you think?”
“The fans clearly make a good point” she said. How was he getting her to talk so much? She never felt like that towards someone. When she was around Jack, she wanted to make conversation.
Jack saw how passionate Y/N was about books, so he hold onto that topic. He loved hearing her voice, and her enthusiasm. “Tell me about this character. I’ve never read the book”.
And so Y/N talked about Wes, about how similar he was to Jack. And said boy was on cloud nine, not only was Y/N talking to him, but he was complimenting him. Well, she complimented Wes, but she mentioned lots of times how he and Jack were literally the same person—so the compliments were towards him too, right? And he loved it.
Tumblr media
THEIR DYNAMIC COMPLETELY CHANGED EVER SINCE THAT DAY ON THE TRAILER. Jack noticed Y/N had grown more comfortable and confident around him, though she did have moments of shyness—especially when he threw praises at her. That’s another thing that changed: Jack wouldn’t pass the opportunity to shower her with compliments. The first one had slipped out of his mouth, she just looked so gorgeous on that skirt and top, that he couldn’t shut up. At first, he cursed at himself thinking it was going to make her uncomfortable, but then she blushed and gave him a little smile and Jack knew he had to tell her at least one nice thing every day. He realized that flattering her was his favorite activity, and he was very addicted to her reactions.
Maybe it was all in his imagination, but he had the feeling that Y/N liked him back. The blushing, the glances, her little stiffness whenever he got too close—it could be just her shyness, he knew it, but the hopeful part of him told him it was more than that.
“Y/N/N?” he interrupted her reading. That was a new activity they had—Jack asked Y/N if she could read him ‘Better than the movies’, and she couldn’t say no when he pouted. So she read to him during their breaks at the trailer.
“Yes?” she looked down at her lap, where Jack’s head was resting.
“Are you doing something tonight?” he asked.
Y/N frowned “No, why?”
“I just realize, we are in Paris and we didn’t get to explore much. Just the places we have filmed at, and it sucks because it is such a beautiful city”
“So…?”
“Right. Well, I was wondering if you wanted to explore with me tonight. We leave the set earlier today, so it’s a great opportunity. We can have dinner, and then visit some touristic places” he tried to speak confidently, but he was practically screaming on the inside.
“Yes, that sounds really nice, actually” she nodded, not thinking much of it. Jack cursed at her calmness, guess she didn’t understand he was actually asking her on a date.
“Great. It’s a date” Jack said, paying attention to her reaction. Her jaw fell open, and the grip on the book loosened letting it fall to her lap—or Jack’s face to be exact. “Ouch!”.
“Shit. Shit. I’m so sorry, Jack” Y/N apologised, body turning warm with embarrassment.
“You could’ve just said no, you know? Didn’t have to hit me with your book” he joked.
“No, no. I want to… I want it to be a date” she said softly. “Did I hurt you?” she touched his nose carefully.
“Not anymore. The pain is now long forgotten” Jack said looking her in the eyes. She turned her head away, they were too close and he was making her extremely nervous “I love it when you blush, did you know that? I… I like you”
“I got the hint ever since you randomly started to tell me compliments every day” she confessed.
“So you knew that I liked you?” Jack asked surprised. She nodded shyly “Why didn’t you say anything?”
Y/N shrugged “I’m not good at making the first move”
“Well, I am” he smiled smugly, leaning closer to her. He was going to kiss her. She had even closed her eyes, waiting for the feeling of his lips. “No”
Y/N opened her eyes in confusion “What?”
“You like romance, don’t you?” Jack asked, she affirmed with her head “We are in one of the most romantic cities in the world and you’re a fan of romantic comedies. Wouldn’t it be a shame if we have our first kiss in a trailer when there are so many beautiful places where we could have it?” he left Y/N completely speechless. “I’ll pick you up at 8, gorgeous”.
Y/N swooned. This guy was taken out of a romantic novel, there’s no other explanation.
Tumblr media
WALKING AROUND THE CITY OF PARIS WITH JACK FELT LIKE A FAIRYTALE. They bought a disposable camera and took pictures of everything—when they went to The Louvre, to Le arc de Triomphe, the Luxembourg Gardens. And now, they were at their final stop before heading back to the hotel. Of course, they had to end their little exploration with Paris’ most iconic monument—the Eiffel Tower.
“Holy shit” Y/N said in complete awe. It was completely dark—as it was midnight already—so the tower shone brightly. The warm flashing lights of the monument reflected on Y/N’s starry eyes and Jack was completely taken by the view—her, of course. “This is completely mesmerising, Jack”.
“I know” eyes never leaving her eyes.
“Excuse moi” the voice of an old woman interrupted them. Y/N turned around and smiled warmly at her. She asked something in french that Jack couldn’t understand, but Y/N nodded and took the phone the woman held in her hands.
Y/N took a picture of the lady in front of the tower, and smiled at her as she handed the phone back. The unknown female looked at Jack, who was watching them with a grin, and said something to Y/N that made her blush and laugh.
“What did she say?” Jack asked curiously when Y/N came back to his side.
“She said that you were very handsome and that we make a great couple” Y/N admitted, smiling lightly but not quite looking at him from embarrassment.
“That was a wise woman, then” Jack smirked. “I didn’t know you spoke french”
“I studied it at school, so I can speak it quite well” she told him.
“Can you say something to me in french?” he was dying to hear her voice in that accent.
Y/N turned around to face him and, with an air of confidence, she said “Tu es le plus beau garçon que J'ai jamais vu. Je t'aime beaucoup et je suis amoureuse de ton sourire et de tes beaux yeux”.
With his jaw almost reaching the floor, his eyes roamed from her eyes down to her mouth, completely bewitched by the sound of her voice and the movement of her lips. He didn’t recognise one word that she had said, yet his heart felt like jumping out of his chest.
“Wha-what does that mean?” he whispered breathlessly.
“I said… You’re the most beautiful boy I’ve ever seen. I like you very much and I’m in love with your smile and your beautiful eyes”
“And-and how do you say ‘Can I kiss you?’ in french?” he asked, fingertips caressing her full lips.
“Je peux t'embrasser?” she answered.
Jack smiled “Yes, of course you can”
Y/N laughed “Dork” she whispered before pressing her lips against his.
Y/N didn’t quite know how Jack manages to make her feel absolutely fearless. But she was in love with the feeling, she was so in love with him that she might stop breathing. She was in love with his cheeky smile, his sweet disposition, his understanding self, his silly jokes, his touch and his loving gaze, and now, one hundred percent, with his kisses.
“I’m in love with you too” Jack said against her lips.

The Hike
Kristanna Modern AU - oneshot Rated: T WC: 2374
~I totally saw something adorable on the interwebs. Headline read as follows; "She sent an office email about a weekend hike and ended up in love with the only guy who responded". So of course I thought this is a adorable meetcute and wanted to write it :D
-------------------
Anna sat at her computer, furiously typing away.   She had only been at her job for about two weeks and she was itching to meet more people.  The small building had two floors, and having not much reason to go up to the second floor, or the warehouse for that matter, she wanted to send an invite to everyone to join her for a weekend hike.
And being the new receptionist – the lowest level position – didn’t discourage her from sending the memo to everyone, her bosses included.
It read;
Hello Rolling Rock Inc.,
I hope this memo finds you well.  I am Anna, the new receptionist.  I would like to extend an invitation to meet me for a hike this Saturday!  I would love to meet everyone and we can have a wonderful time enjoying the gorgeous weather forecast for this weekend.
There is an easy trail up North Mountain (just forty-five-minute drive out of town).   It has a big parking lot at the trail base and great views when you get to the top.  You can google the directions or come ask me directly!
Meet up time is 7 a.m..  Bring a lunch and plenty of water!
Hope to see you there!
Anna Arendelle -Reception
Anna read it over two more times and sent it out with a smile on her face.
~   ~   ~   ~   ~
Anna woke bright an early on Saturday morning.  No one had asked her for directions so she assumed Google did its job to guide people where they needed to go.
She’d asked around of the people she already knew if they were going to come, and about half of them said that they would probably see her there.  It sounded to Anna like they were going to have a good group for the hike.
She got up extra early and packed a big lunch; sandwiches, enough trail mix to share, an apple, an orange, and a carefully packed cupcake.  Excited, she placed everything in her car, grabbed her hiking boots and hit the road.
The drive was refreshing with the sunrise at her back, casting its golden light on the pointed peaks of the mountains.  Anna sung along to every song on the radio, huge smile on her face, excited to meet some more people and have a wonderful day outdoors.
*****
Kristoff drove with the windows of his truck cracked.  It was a little chilly, but the early morning air was fragrant and rejuvenating.
He loved the mountains.  There was hardly a weekend in the summer and fall that he wasn’t in them.  At first he’d been a little apprehensive about the memo, not knowing who the hell the new receptionist was, then he asked some of the people in the warehouse and they said they were thinking about going.  He decided to commit his Saturday to it, even though it meant leaving his best friend hanging at the bar the night before so he could go home and get a good sleep.
He saw the sign for the parking lot and turned left, crossing the other side of the highway which was unbusy at the early hour.  He glanced at the clock in his truck, noting he was a little late.  There was construction by his house getting out of town that had held him up nearly fifteen minutes.   Even if they’d taken off up the trail, he was sure he could catch them quickly.
Navigating his truck through the treed entryway, he soon turned right into the large parking lot.  At first he wasn’t sure he knew what he was looking at, then it all started to click into place as he slowly made his way to the trailhead sign.
There were three cars off to the left, no one in sight around them, and a lonely car off to the right with a copper headed woman sideways in the front seat with her feet on the pavement looking highly disappointed.
“Shit,” he muttered.  Either he had the wrong day and that was some rando woman, or he was the only asshole from their whole company that had shown up for this hike.
He took a calming breath and parked beside her.  It wasn’t like he was going to turn around.  That would be such a dick move.  And he really did want to hike.
He rolled up his windows and hopped out of the truck.  No sooner were his boots on the asphalt and she as beside him, smiling up at him.  He was taken aback by her big blue eyes, and they nearly took his breath away.
“Hi,” she said tentatively.  “Are you from Rolling Rock?”
Kristoff swallowed, still flustered by her beauty.  “Uh, yeah.  You’re Anna?”
Her face lit up with a brilliant smile.  “I am!”  She held out her hand.  “It’s so nice to meet you.”
He shook her hand.  “You too.  I’m Kristoff.”
“I’m so glad you showed up, Kristoff,” she said, dropping his hand.
He immediately missed her touch.  “Not many takers, huh?”
Anna put on an exaggerated pouty face and crossed her arms.  “It appears not.”  She smiled again.  “But that’s okay!  You showed up, so I guess the two of us get to enjoy this beautiful sunny day in the mountains.”
Kristoff smiled, his stomach fluttering with butterflies.  “Their loss,” he agreed.
*****
Anna’s legs were sore by the time they got back down to their vehicles in the late afternoon.  They’d hiked to the top rather quickly, being just the two of them, then decided to take another trail to take them a little closer to the peak where they would have their lunch.  It proved to be more difficult, and the incline left Anna’s leg muscles burning by the time they reached the top.  It was worth it though, looking out over the valley and the sparking glacier-fed lake nestled below them.
And Anna had an absolutely amazing time talking to Kristoff.  He worked in the warehouse, which was why she’d never seen him before, and he was a wonderful person.  Not only had he been the only one to actually show up, he’d entertained her rambling stories with actual interest, and she was rewarded by hearing his gorgeous laugh a couple of times.  And that was not the only gorgeous thing about him.
If she had known there was such a looker lurking in the depths of the warehouse, she would have made a point to go in there more often.  He was tall, broad, blond, and hunky as hell.  His soulful brown eyes were nothing like she’d ever seen, and as they ate lunch perched on the outcropping of a rock, she found herself mesmerized by them.
They stopped when they reached their vehicles – the only ones left in the parking lot now – and Kristoff took a moment to stretch out his back.  Anna was unable to tear her eyes way, watching how every one of those muscles of his moved under his clothing.  When he was done and looked back at her, she had to catch herself and cover for the fact that she was ogling him.
“Thanks for the invite for the hike, Anna,” he said, sliding his pack back off his shoulders to dig out his truck keys.  “I’ve never been up this trail and I had a great time.”
Anna found herself nodding.  “I’m glad.  I did too.  Thank you for showing up.”
He chuckled.  “I can’t believe none of those other assholes did.  They sure missed out on a nice day.”
She nodded absentmindedly, focused on every movement as he unlocked his truck and threw his backpack in the back seat and turned back to her.
“I mean it,” she said quietly.  “It was a pretty shitty feeling sitting in my car and realizing that no one showed up.  Then you pulled in and it was like… I don’t even know.  I just felt…” She shrugged, looking down.
It’s okay, Anna.  I get it.”
Her eyes came up to his.  “You do?”
“Sure.”  He shrugged.  “It’s like throwing a party and no one shows up.  Although I guess an early Saturday hike is a little different.”
Anna smiled at him.  “Maybe it was too early?”
Kristoff laughed.  “Maybe.  But like I said, their loss.”
She nodded slowly, unable to stop her eyes roaming over every inch of his face.    “Their loss indeed,” she agreed.
~   ~   ~   ~   ~
Anna was head over heels in love.  Kristoff was the one.
They’d left the mountain that day with plans for just the two of them to meet up again the next weekend on another trail in the area.  By the end of that second wonderful hike, Kristoff had asked her if she had any dinner plans, and they ended up driving home and meeting later at a Pub near his house, which was coincidentally incredibly close to Anna’s own apartment.
That dinner had changed everything.  Or rather, it was the chaste kiss he’d given her at the end of it that changed everything.  From then on, Anna knew she was a goner.  While dating wasn’t even on her radar after moving to a new town and starting a new job, Kristoff was without a doubt, the love of her life.  She felt that spark of love as soon as their lips met for that first beautiful kiss.
After that their love blossomed.  They are their lunch together at work, they hung out every chance they had, the went on many other hikes and adventures in the mountains.  Kristoff introduced her to camping and fishing and Anna had no idea she could have so much fun sleeping in a camper on the back of a truck with only his body for warmth.
It was on one such camping trip that he first told he that he loved her.  Anna’s response had been quick and heartfelt that she was head over heels in love with him too.   Her sincerity must have been so profound that Kristoff suddenly asked her to move in with him as well.  Anna, of course, was thrilled, and they spent the rest of the evening by the fire talking about how excited they were to live together.
Never in a million years did Anna think she was going to fall in love so quickly and thoroughly.  To think, if more people had shown up for that hike, she might not have talked to Kristoff.  Perhaps he didn’t show up either.  But however you sliced it, they were the only two ones on the mountain that day, which meant to Anna that it was destiny.   Kristoff was her soulmate and no one could change her mind on that.
15 YEARS LATER
Kristoff’s smile got wider the closer they got to the mountains.  He looked over to his beautiful wife in the passenger seat, nodding her head along to the song on the radio and singing under her breath while she scrolled her phone looking for things to do around the new campground they were going to try.  Glancing in the rear-view mirror, he saw that his daughter was listening to her own music and staring out the window, while his son was playing on his Switch with his headphones to pass the time for the drive.
His heart was full.  Never in a million years did he think attending a hike sent out in a memo from the receptionist would get him everything he had ever wanted in life, and here he was, relishing in the happiness that his family brought him every day.
Their daughter and son, twelve and ten respectively, adored the mountains as much as him and Anna.  It was special to Kristoff that they got to spend time as a family having fun in the outdoors without the distractions of screens for the entirety of the weekend.  A lot of the places they went to didn’t even have cell reception.
Suddenly, Anna’s hand shot towards him and gripped his bicep.
“There’s some falls we can hike to!” she said, excitement all over her face.
“Yeah?” he chuckled.  “That sounds awesome.”
“I love waterfalls,” their daughter piped up from the back.
“Me too!” Anna agreed.  “Bud, you want to hike to some falls?”
Silence from their son.
Kristoff kept his eyes on the road but turned his face towards the rear seat.   “Dude, headphones,” he said loud enough to be heard.
His son slipped them off his head.  “Huh?”
“You want to hike to some falls?” Anna asked.
His face lit up in a smile.  “Oh, yeah for sure.”  With that done he slipped the headphones back onto his head and resumed his game, knowing the only time he was allowed to play it over the weekend was to and from camping.
Anna shook her head and looked at Kristoff with a smile on her face.  He knew that smile very well.  Their kids were typical kids of course, but they were both damn fine kids.  Him and Anna were beyond proud of the amazing people they were raising.
Kristoff glanced in the mirrors again to check their rig.  They had come a long way from the little camper he had on the back of his dad’s old ’78 Super-Cab.  Now he hauled a modest travel trailer with his newer truck; a small queen in the front, little kitchen and table, and bathroom and bunk beds in the back.  Perfect for the four of them.  They had the little fridge stocked, the cooler full of ice and drinks, their fishing gear, and the bicycles in the bed of his truck.  The perfect combination for a fun filled weekend with gorgeous weather in the forecast.
Anna heaved a very happy sounding sigh, setting her phone down in the console between them.  “I can’t wait to get there, set up, and crack a cold one.”
Kristoff grinned.  Damn this woman was without a doubt the love and light of his life.  “Same, baby.”
They glanced at each other with smiles that were only meant for each other.   Kristoff thought back to that hike all those years ago often because he had met his soulmate, and he was thankful for that every day of his life since.

Tumblr media
A deep sigh sank out of the restless groom's lungs as he stared drearily at the slightly crumpled paper in his rough hands.
"I just don't know what to write, Sven!" Kristoff yells in exasperation, crumpling up the paper once more before tossing it across the lantern-lit room and sinking to the wooden floor, his back against the closed door.
Empathetic noises smooth themselves from the reindeer's mouth, stepping closer to his friend's slumped body.
Kristoff's hands embed themselves into his hair. "You know I can never seem to get the words right!"
Another sigh.
"I just love her so much - but it's this harsh, heavy wonderful feeling that sits deep in my bones and I mean how am I even supposed to verbalize-,"
His body jumps at the loud knock erupted from the other side, but is quick to relax at his fiancé's whispered voice.
"Christopher?!" Anna's voice dance through the wood, obvious laughter at the tip of her mouth.
Rolling his eyes - but not without a soft smile painting on his lips - Kristoff opens the door by a crack.
"Ha ha, very funny. What're you doing here? Seeing each other is bad luck, remember?"
Anna softly bites her lip as she gently sits herself down in front of the door, keeping the two of them separate.
"I wanted to...well...know how you're doing?" Still whispering, she sneaks her hand through the crack, laying it palm-up.
Kristoff huffs out a faint chuckle before messily closing the gap and tangling his hand with hers.
"Let me guess, Olaf snitched?"
Kristoff's ears perk up at her soft giggle.
"He merely informed me-"
"Ah yes, informed."
Anna laughs again before letting a quietness settle.
"What is happening? Are you...having cold feet..?" She glances at the door, her breath wavering in hesitance.
"What?!" Kristoff nearly rolls over to face the slab of wood creating distance. "No! I want to love you in everyway possible for as long as I may, it's just-," a sigh as his shoulders relax, "I don't know what to write."
Anna tightens her grip on his hand, releasing a soft breath. "Okay, that's good. The loving part not the writing part, of course!" She tucks her recently-washed hair behind her ear before clearing her throat. "Do you have anything so far?"
Kristoff lets a beat pass as his frenzy washes over him before swallowing and motioning for Sven to bring him the paper. "Kind of?"
Sven snugs himself into Kristoff's side after returning the frustration-torn paper to the similarly torn man.
"Read it to me."
"Are you sure? Won't it be less special tomorrow then..?"
Anna gently shakes her head. "Is it going to be more special if there is nothing for me to hear?"
"You have a point-" Clearing his throat, he attempts to straighten out the paper, his hand shaking the tiniest bit.
"Dear Anna, you once heard me sing a song about how people will beat you and curse you and cheat you, but you have proven me wrong." Flushed in embarrassment, he lays his head on his knees.
Anna fights to keep the laugh in her mouth as she takes a deep breath. "Well it's a start-"
"Stop."
"I'm serious it has potential!"
Kristoff rips his hand from hers. "It's bad."
Chuckling, Anna gently opens the door and faces him - her eyes closed. "We're not breaking the rules if we still can't see each other, right?"
Without waiting for a reply, she pulls her groom into her arms and holds him tightly to her beating heart.
Kristoff breathes in her body, nudging his head into her wet hair and staying aware of how her hands trace his back. "You touch me like I am everything you have ever asked for. Underneath your hands I become poetry." He mumbles into her warm embrace.
"Tell me more." Anna whispers, playing with his soft golden hair.
"I cannot imagine any other possible purpose in my life other than devoting it entirely to you and I cannot begin to explain how grateful I am that you were crazy enough to go up that mountain after your sister."
Blinking away tears, Anna hugs him tighter. "You think I'm crazy?!" She playfully pokes him in his side causing him to jump back, both their eyes shut and their chests heavy with relief filled laughter.
"I think you've just said your wedding vows, Mister Fixer-upper."
Kristoff almost chokes his tears and his laughter, pushing her out of the room. "Yeah, I think I've got it now, soon-to-be Missus Fixer-upper."
"Oh yeah? Got it all sorted out now?" Anna pulls her face at him before recalling he won't be able to tell and gives him a swift kiss on the cheek.
He chuckles and takes her hands in his. "Thank you."
"Always."
"Now get out of here! Don't let a mere ice harvester keep the Queen from her beauty sleep."
Smiling brightly, Anna slips her hands from his and slowly steps behind her as the door creates insufferable distance once more and closes.

Just the Way We Roll by kazoosandfannypacks
Pairing: Captain Swan Rating: General Audiences Word Count: 3K Summary: Killian Jones is just a simple teenager trying to navigate life. But when his brothers try to help him talk to his crush, it doesn't quite go as planned. Author’s notes: [In this fic, Liam II is named William, and Emma and Henry aren't related.] I feel like "Killian as a middle sibling" isn't a dynamic used nearly enough in fics, and decided to play around with "his brothers try to help him flirt and it doesn't go well."  Being an older sibling seemed easy enough. Having people who always look up to you, paving your own path, never living in someone else's shadow- it all comes so easy to the oldest sibling.
Being a younger sibling didn't seem too hard either. Your parents are more lax on the rules, they make less mistakes because they've learned from how they messed up your older siblings, and you've got older siblings to look out for you.
But being a middle sibling was difficult. Keeping an eye out for your younger siblings, living in the shadow of your older siblings- your parents still messing up with you, yet having expectations for you from your older siblings. It was the worst of both worlds- but after ten years of having a younger brother and seventeen of having an older brother, Killian was used to it. He'd gotten used to the fact that William would beg to tag along anywhere he went. He'd gotten used to the fact that Liam would always be around to tease him. He'd gotten used to the hand-me-downs and the handing-down, to needing advice and then giving advice, to being annoyed by his younger brother and annoying his older brother.
But if there's one thing he didn't think he'd ever get used to, it was his brothers' outgoing natures. To William and Liam both, a stranger was just a friend they hadn't met yet, whether it was a kid William met at the McDonald's playplace or a new employee Liam met at the local ice cream stand. Liam's charisma and William's enthusiasm were enough to charm the hearts of any stranger.
Killian, however, was not so gifted at meeting new people. For one thing, he didn't really need to be- Liam's friends had always accepted him as part of the group anyways- and for another, he didn't usually care to. He wasn't a huge fan of talking to people, never knowing what to say, or how to say it, or when- it was easier if he just didn't talk at all. He had plenty of online friends, anyways, from his RPG groups and writing circles, and he'd always been content with just that.
That is, until his older brother dragged him along with him to the local pizza parlor for dinner. Their mom was away for the night (and their dad had been away for much longer,) and Killian had been looking forward to spending an evening in, planning on proofreading a manuscript one of his friends had been begging him to beta.
Unfortunately, Liam had decided they'd have much more fun going out for pizza that night, and William agreed- much to Killian's dismay. So, instead of reading his friend's historical fantasy WIP while listening to his favorite gaming soundtracks, he found himself eating pizza with his brother, in a seat much too close to the nearby jukebox, which was playing "What's New, Pussycat" for what seemed like the twenty-first time.
But he didn't mind it nearly as much as he thought he would. After William had devoured a couple slices of pizza, he'd run off to play at the arcade consoles with a new friend he'd made. Liam then began talking with Killian about some of their friends, and Liam's upcoming victories as captain of the football team, and which of the Spiderman movies was the best adaptation.
But what really made him enjoy his time- or, at the very least, made him stop wishing that he was back home by himself- was when he noticed some girls from school, sitting at a table across the way- one of those girls being the new girl, Emma Swan.
If ever there was a person Killian was scared to talk to, it was Emma Swan. Her golden hair and charming smile were enough to turn loose the butterflies in his stomach- but her confidence, even in her new surroundings, combined with how quickly she'd fallen in with some of the cooler girls- altogether she was too cool for him to even think about talking to her.
Fortunately for Killian, girls like her didn't tend to notice guys like him, so she didn't notice how much he was staring at her from his seat behind the jukebox.
Unfortunately for Killian, big brothers always notice when you're crushing on someone.
"Does she go to our school?" Liam asked.
Killian turned back to Liam, trying to pretend he hadn't been staring at Emma- the last thing he needed was Liam meddling with his fantasy.
 "Who?" Killian asked.
"That girl you haven't been able to take your eyes off since she came in."
"I don't know what you're talking about." Killian said, making the mistake of glancing back at Emma and her friends- and seeing her laugh at one of her friend's jokes, which brought a tell-tale smile to his face.
"Killian Jones," Liam said, "you are the worst liar I've ever met."
 "Am not!" Killian said.
 "You like her," Liam smiled.
"She's just a girl from school," Killian said, "she's new; I barely know her."
 "What's stopping you?" Liam asked.
"From getting to know her?" Killian asked, half laughing.
"Just go over there and talk to her," Liam said.
Killian knew Liam was only trying to be supportive, but at the same time, he could've said "just go jump in a pit of razor blades" and Killian would've been more willing to oblige.
"Talk to her?" Killian asked, "me? It's not that easy."
"Why not?" Liam asked, "just go over and say 'hi.'"
"Maybe the captain of the football team can do that," Killian said, but "I don't think I could…."
"Exactly, don't think," Liam said, standing up, "just do it.  Thinking's what gets you into trouble."
"What?" Killian asked, his brother already having walked around the table to the jukebox.
"This'll be your song," Liam said, putting a few quarters in the slot, "it'll boost your confidence."
"What song?" Killian asked, getting up to look at the jukebox, knowing there was no point in trying to stop his brother when he had his mind made up.
"Our jam," Liam put a hand on his brother's shoulder, "That's Just The Way We Roll."
"Jonas Brothers?" Killian asked, "You want me to talk to Emma with Jonas Brothers playing in the background?"
"Only thing better than the Joe Bros is the Jones Bros," Liam wiped a dab of sauce off Killian's face, "even if one of them needs a little more confidence."
"I still don't know about this," Killian said.
Their conversation was interrupted by William, who'd apparently exhausted all his arcade quarters.
"Do you have any more quarters?" William asked Liam, "Henry and I ran out."
 "Who's Henry?" Killian asked.
 "My new friend," William said.
"How'd you like to help your brother make a new friend now?" Liam asked William.
 "You?"
"I don't need your help," Liam said, "but there's a pretty girl over there who's caught Killian's eye, and he needs our help to impress her."
 "I don't need…"
"Okay!" William said, "what do you need me to do?"
"Just follow my lead," Liam said, "and make Killian look good."
 "You got it!" William said.
"I woke up, on the roof, with my brothers," the jukebox played.
"That's your cue," Liam said. He put his hand on Killian's shoulder and pushed him ahead of them, towards Emma and her friends.
"I wonder how much paperwork goes into disowning your older brother," Killian thought, as they got closer to the table and he still didn't know what he was gonna say.
The girls at the table stopped talking and looked up at them, their eyes quizzically fixed on the Jones brothers.
"Hi," Killian said, his stomach in knots and shoulders tense, "I uh, we go to the same school."
"Emma, is it?" Liam reached around his brother to shake Emma's hand, "I'm Liam."
"No need to introduce yourself," one of the other girls, whom Killian recognized from the cheerleading squad, interrupted, "I think we all know the captain of the football team when we see him."
"Anna, right?" Liam asked, "Kristoff's girlfriend?"
"That's me," Anna nudged the girl next to her, "and this is my sister, Elsa."
"A pleasure to meet you both," Liam said, flashing a dazzling smile at Elsa, then turning slightly to Emma, "and have you met my brother, Killian?"
"I've seen you around," Emma smiled a little, not at Killian, "I didn't pick up on the familial connection, I guess."
"Jones is a fairly common last name," Liam said, "and Killian hasn't picked up on nearly as much of the family charisma and charm as I have."
Even if Killian had found his voice, he couldn't've argued with that.
"And I'm William!" William piped in, "I'm their brother!"
"Oh?" Elsa smiled at the child, "are you on the football team too?"
"I don't even go to your school!" William said, "but I go to all of Liam's football games. I'd go to Killian's games too, if he was good at sports."
"What part of 'make Killian look good' does he not understand?" Killian thought, before realizing it was probably the word "Killian."
"Yet another thing that didn't run in the family," Liam smiled.
"Would you guys like to join us?" Anna asked, sliding herself over and pulling her sister along with her, "I'm sure we can make room for you."
"We'd love to," Liam said. He slid into the now-empty space in the booth, next to Elsa.
Killian took a seat in the booth next to Emma, feeling a little too uncomfortable to even look at her.
"This was a bad idea," Killian thought, sitting at the edge of the booth, hoping his cheeks weren't red from either embarrassment, awkwardness, or any more stray pizza sauce.
Whether fortunately or unfortunately, Killian wasn't quite sure yet, but either way, William crawled under the table and popped back up between Emma and Killian, taking a seat between them.
William tugged at Killian's sleeve and motioned for him to lean down. Killian did so, and William cupped his hands around his ear to whisper to him- but when you're ten years old, it's hard to tell the difference between "whispering" and "talking so loud the whole restaurant can hear it." Unfortunately for Killian, William did the latter.
"Is she the girl you can't impress?" William asked, his voice somehow a million times louder than usual, "the one you needed our help with?"
Killian blushed a little, glancing up at Liam and reading his expression, knowing that it was definitely loud enough, at the very least, for the whole table to hear.
"I never said that," Killian scratched the back of his neck, behind his ear.
"Shhhhh!" William reminded him they were supposed to be whispering, "you didn't, Liam did, remember? He said you need more confidence and there's a pretty girl you can't impress without our help."
Killian hid his face in his hand, wondering now how much paperwork went into disowning himself.
Liam pulled a few quarters out of his pocket.
"Why don't you head back to the X-Wing Fighters game?" he asked, handing William the quarters.
"Okay!" William said, "Nice meeting you girls!"
"It was nice meeting you too," Anna said, as William crawled across Killian, adding injury to insult as he left the booth.
Killian looked at Emma out of the corner of his eye, and behind her soda sipping straw was a sympathetic smile.
"Great, just what I need," Killian thought, "she probably feels sorry for me."
Killian hunched his shoulders and looked away from her, intently studying a stain on the table. He then remembered what Liam said about the song playing on the jukebox, and listened closely to the lyrics now playing.
"If we lose, all the girls, they'll be laughing"
"They'll be laughing pretty soon here if I open my big mouth and say something stupid," Killian thought.
He looked up at his brother and took heart, knowing that at least one of the Jones brothers knew how to function in society.
"I don't see how Liam got all the charisma and charm." Killian thought, "I want to go home- or, at least, go sit at the table behind the jukebox like none of this happened. I don't know how to talk to people, let alone girls."
"So, do you ladies come here often?" Liam asked.
"Anna and I do," Elsa said, "our favorite weekend hangout- this is our first time bringing Emma along with us though."
"I just moved in a couple weeks ago," Emma said, "Anna and Elsa've been helping me adjust pretty well though. Our parents have apparently been friends since before any of us were born."
"Glad to see you're, uh, well adjusted so far," Killian said, wondering if that sounded as awkward as he thought it did once he'd said it.
"Thanks, I guess," Emma said.
"Have you stopped by Scoops and Shakes yet?" Liam asked Emma.
"Not yet," Emma said, "Elsa and Anna told me it's the best ice cream place in town though." "A slight understatement," Liam said, "one of the best on the planet. Perhaps my brother and I could you treat you ladies there tonight?"
 "Sounds pretty cool," Elsa said.
"That was an ice one," Liam smiled.
Emma groaned and rolled her eyes as Anna and Liam laughed.
"I've got snow problem coming up with them," Elsa said.
"You're quite clever," Liam smiled, then glanced at Killian, a look in his eyes that said he'd forgotten his role as wingman, but was just remembering it.
"Care to join us at Scoops and Shakes after this?" Liam asked Emma.
 "I don't know," Emma said.
"I'm sure my brother would be glad for your company," Liam smiled.
Emma looked at Killian, expectantly, and he realized now he'd have to say something to her- something smooth, calculated, charming, cool- like Liam would. He opened his mouth to speak, but couldn't come up with anything.
"That's it;" Killian thought, "I'm stopping by the county offices tomorrow and disowning myself. I'll go join Uncle Nemo's shipping company in Maine, never look back."
"No, I, uh," Killian stammered, wondering how to avoid coming on too strong without avoiding coming on at all. "I might be able to uh," he made the mistake of looking at Emma, rendering himself entirely speechless at the sight of her smile.
 "You're really pretty," Killian mumbled.
"What was that?" Emma asked, her tone not revealing if she liked what she heard.
Killian covered his tracks- but covered them with the dirt beneath his feet, digging himself into a deep hole.
"I said I need to use the privy!" Killian said, even louder than William had "whispered" to him earlier. He got up from his seat quickly, and ran to the bathroom.
He shut the door of one of the bathroom stalls, not needing to use the bathroom, of course, but needing to step back and think, and wondering if his mom would still write to him if he ran away to Maine.
"Curse that brother of mine," he muttered to himself, "why can't he understand that we're not all like him? I can't be him."
But maybe that was Killian's problem. Maybe he was trying too hard to be like his brother- so much so he was neglecting to be himself.
But if he was really gonna be himself, he'd be in his room right now, by himself, perfectly content to stay that way.
When he left the bathroom, he saw William and his new friend playing at one of the arcade consoles, and figured it was as good an excuse as any to keep stalling.
"How're you doing, kid?" Killian rubbed his little brother's hair. "Putting that Imperial Scum in their place?"
"No!" William said. "We can't seem to get past this TIE Interceptor."
Killian smiled. Taking on a whole fleet of TIEs was easier for him than trying to woo a girl.
 "May I?" Killian asked.
William quickly stepped off to the side, and Killian took his place in front of the console. As he'd suspected, he did pretty well taking down the enemy invasion, and soon lost himself in the rush of the game and the cheers of the younger boys.
"I think I got it from here," William smiled, pushing his big brother out of the way, "thanks!" "Man, we never could've gotten this far without your brother!" Henry told him.
Satisfied that he'd at least done something right in the last ten minutes, he turned around, with a smile on his face. He quickly realized, though, that he hadn't noticed another spectator to his game- until he turned around and almost ran into her.
"That's some pretty good shooting there, Red Five," Emma smiled.
"I, uh," Killian took a deep breath, "I didn't peg you for a Star Wars fan."
"Why not?" Emma crossed her arms, "because I'm a girl?" "Of course not," Killian said, "it's just rare to meet someone else who shares my interests, especially someone as cool as you."
"You think I'm cool?" Emma asked.
"Yeah," Killian said, "not many people can claim good looks alongside knowing Luke Skywalker's callsign."
"I think someone else here can," Emma smiled.
Killian blushed a little, his mouth an open smile as he thought of what to say next- not of what his brother would say next, but what he would say next.
 "Do you game as well?"
"Sometimes," Emma said, "though I'm not very good at it."
"Have you ever played the Fallen Order games?" "Haven't had the time or motivation yet," Emma said.
"Liam and I have them on the XBox," Killian said, "If you'd ever did have the time or motivation, I'd love to show you."
"Sounds like a date," Emma said.
"Only if you wanted it to be," Killian said, shyly looking down at his shoes.
"Speaking of dates," Emma said, "did you wanna join the others over at Scoops and Shakes? I hear it's the best ice cream on the planet."
"Liam was being facetious when he said that," Killian said, "but it is one of the best on a student's budget." They started to walk away, but he suddenly remembered his little brother.
"William," Killian turned back to his brother, "time to go."
"Go?" William asked, not turning his back on his game, "already? Five more minutes?" Killian rolled his eyes, then mouthed "watch this" to Emma.
"We're getting ice cream," Killian said.
"Finish it for me!" William jumped away from the console as Henry stepped into his place.
"You got it, Gold Leader," Henry said, "may the force be with you!"
"May the force be with you!" William called back, already past Emma and Killian and on his way to the door.
"Shall we?" Killian asked, holding a hand out, gesturing in front of them.
"Yeah," Emma smiled, and, much to his surprise, took Killian's hand in hers.
He blushed, hoping his hand wasn't sweating too much, having never held hands with a girl before.
As they rejoined with the others, Liam nodded at Killian and gave him a discreet thumbs up, to which Killian nodded in return.
Killian looked back over at Emma and smiled a little, realizing that he wouldn't've gotten this close to her if Liam hadn't pushed him, and that maybe, just maybe, he didn't need to disown himself just yet.

Technically three sentences, but oh well.
This is from an upcoming Ducktales oneshot centered around Scrooge McDuck with the song Never Love an Anchor by the Crane Wives:
Scrooge McDuck is not a caring person.
And yet, all of his kids will fight to say otherwise.
And honestly, he doesn’t know why.

Como La Flor
summary: you accidentally spend too much time online
words: 2.4k
tw: none
“Harry looks so bored when he’s with her.”
“He’s clearly not happy in this ‘relationship.’”
“What does he see in her anyway?”
“Nothing. He looks fucking miserable.”
“I’m really worried about him. She’s obviously using him for fame.”
“Did you see her in that dress last week? She looked horrible. God I hope she’s not pregnant. We’d be stuck with her forever.”
Sniffling, you shut your phone off and placed it face down on the night table next to you. You flicked the lamp off and hid yourself under the fluffy covers of your bed. Squeezing your eyes tight, you hoped that the last hour you spent online was burned from your memory.
You knew that there were people who didn’t…approve of your relationship with Harry. Before you even confirmed your relationship and were just spotted out together, you were bombarded with angry fans of his who thought you weren’t good enough for him. Those weeks were difficult for you. You hadn’t been with Harry for a very long time at that point, and although you really liked him, you weren’t sure if you could handle that level of scrutiny from people who didn’t know you.
Harry had understandably been upset, and did everything he could to reassure you that the only people that mattered in your relationship were the two of you, apologizing for the cruel treatment you’d received online for just standing next to him. From that conversation, you could tell that this issue had been the breaking point for Harry’s relationships in the past, and you felt bad for him. He was one of the nicest guys you’d ever met, but instead of one disapproving mother or friend or whoever, he had thousands of people criticizing whoever he was interested in.
“I really like you,” he said, linking his fingers with yours. “But I understand if...you know…”
You were at a crossroads. Leave this boy behind before you got too attached and save yourself a boatload of anxiety and self-esteem issues, or take a chance and trust that what the two of you had would be enough to ignore all the comments and spectators. When comparing the two, you were surprised by how much you didn’t want to break up with him. There was something special growing between you and Harry, and you could tell he knew it too. So, you gave him a chance, and you ended up falling in love with him soon after.
As your relationship with Harry progressed, you began to avoid the internet, only opening up social media accounts, all of which were now private, to check up on your family. In the grand scheme of things, it wasn’t a big deal, especially if it meant that you were comfortably dating someone you loved, but there were moments where you couldn’t help yourself. Like Sleeping Beauty and her needle, you were drawn to the Internet, unable to help but be curious to know what people thought of you.
That led to today. You were home from work, Harry was busy the rest of the night, so you were left to your own devices, which meant exploring different social media apps. And once you started, you couldn’t stop.
YouTube was filled with conspiracy videos on why people thought your relationship wasn’t real, providing concrete “proof” in some and just wild accusations in others. Twitter had pictures of you and Harry walking around a few days ago. In some of them he had his arm around your shoulders, in others you skipped ahead while he was a couple paces behind you, holding various shopping bags in his hands. To you, they looked normal, and you could almost see the conversation you were having in some of the photos, but because Harry was straight-faced in all of them, it apparently meant you were some kind of parasite that drained him of his energy and happiness.
You didn’t know what you were doing wrong. You knew that you made Harry happy, or did you? It was suddenly hard to tell. Harry always told you that you were the only people in your relationship and no one else, but as you continuously scrolled, you couldn’t help but be swayed to believe that if so many people were saying it, it had to be true. Maybe you weren’t good enough, or pretty enough, or just enough in general.
Tears freely flowed down your cheeks, unable to stop them as your chest heaved and your nose became stuffy. You tried to turn your thoughts off before they could spiral more than they already had, but it was too late. You were suddenly aware of every little thing you’d ever done to annoy Harry, of anytime where you were made aware of your body in a way that made you feel insecure, of all the people you were up against, who would never let you live in peace unless you broke up with Harry.
These thoughts consumed you and wouldn’t let you sleep, but you didn’t get out of bed either, content to wallow all night. Your chest heaved occasionally with a new sob, each intake of breath difficult because your nose was so congested. Hugging the stuffed purple rabbit Harry gifted you on your third date to your chest, you buried your cheek deeper into your pillow, wishing your boyfriend was here but also glad that he didn’t have to see you like this at the same time.
Almost like your thoughts summoned him, the front door of your house opened. Nothing was said, but you knew it was Harry. He was the only one besides yourself who had a key to the house. By his soft footfalls and his lack of his usual, “I’m home!”, and the fact that you weren’t supposed to see him tonight, you knew he was trying to surprise you, as he often liked to do. Whenever he was super busy and needed to get away, or he just missed you, he’d come over and make dinner. “I was just hoping to steal a moment of your time,” he’d say. “Maybe two or three moments.”
Those were the kinds of things that made you fall in love with him. He just seemed to know when you needed him, even when you didn’t. As you thought about Harry’s sixth sense, you wondered if you brought anything to the relationship. Your mind flooded with thoughts about how Harry was always going out of his way for you, how he seemed to always know what you needed, how caring and comforting and wonderful he was.
But what about you?
That only made you cry even harder. Your whole body wracked with sobs as you faced what you thought was the end of your relationship. You’d completely forgotten about Harry at that point, even though his arrival was what had sent you back into a tailspin in the first place.
Harry, who wasn’t totally surprised that you weren’t lounging around the front room of your house or the kitchen, walked down the hall towards your bedroom. He wanted to surprise you with a recipe he’d been working on the last few days. It was one that your mother shared with him, one of your favorites from growing up. He was so excited to cook for you once he perfected the recipe, and today happened to be that day.
What he wasn’t expecting was to find you in bed and crying your eyes out. “Baby, what’s wrong? What happened?”
Startled by Harry’s voice, you peeked your eyes out from where you were hiding under a blanket to find him at the foot of your bed, concern wrinkling his brow. Shaking your head and wiping your eyes with the sleeve of your sweatshirt, his sweatshirt, you told him, “Nothing. I’m just feeling a little under the weather.”
Both of you knew your answer was bullshit, but he didn’t say anything as he came closer, sitting on the edge of your bed so he could see you up close. His eyes flickered over you, trying to guess how long you’d been like this and what could’ve made you this upset. His gaze landed on your phone, still face down on your night stand, and he had a hunch.
“So, if I look at your phone right now, I won’t find anything?”
Your eyes widened, your lashes all stuck together from crying so much. You reached for your phone, not wanting him to know what you had been looking at, but he beat you to it. Unlocking your phone with your passcode, Harry looked at it, his face falling the longer he scrolled.
“Baby…” he breathed, his heart cracking the longer he read.
You watched as he looked down at your phone, feeling guilty. “I’m sorry—”
“You know none of it’s true, right?” he said suddenly. When you didn’t answer him, he reached his hand out to wipe a tear from your cheek.
“I just don’t know what you see in me,” you confessed before turning away from him.
Harry’s heart cracked even more. He thought you knew how much you meant to him, how much joy you brought him. He’d never been happier since meeting you. You packed him lunch with little notes when he had to go into the studio all day, you listened to him whenever he had to rant when things weren’t going to plan with songwriting, you encouraged him to take risks and believed in him when he didn’t believe in himself. You were his muse, you were his heart. How could you not see it?
“I love you so much,” he said, running his hand along your back. You didn’t answer him, but he could feel your breaths start to even out, so he continued, his voice soft as his hand soothed you. “You came into my life at a time where I thought I couldn’t be happier, but you proved me so wrong. I didn’t know life could be so beautiful until our first date. You’ve opened my eyes up to so much, you’ve helped me to be a better man, you’re a reminder of everything good in my life and what I stand to lose if…if…
“I know you didn’t sign up for this,” Harry said quietly, referring to the online scrutiny. “And I know that it’s not easy for you, just know it’s not easy for me either. I hate that people say these things about you, I wish there was a way to make it all go away without losing you, but I’m too selfish to even consider that as an option.”
You turned around, fresh tears on your cheeks, but not ones of despair. “You really mean that?”
On any other day, Harry would’ve looked at you like you were crazy. He was so head over heels for you, and he thought he was pretty obvious about it. But knowing you were in a sensitive state, he only smiled and leaned down to kiss your forehead. “Of course. I’m gonna make you my wife someday.”
You couldn’t help but grin at that, and Harry returned it. “I’d like that.” Sitting up, you cradled his face in your hands. Harry was smiling, but it was dimmed. Rubbing your thumb along his cheek, you said, “You know I don’t blame you for any of this, right?”
“You always know what I’m thinking before I think it,” he said, but he still wouldn’t meet your eyes. “They’re my fans, Y/n, I can’t help but feel responsible for when they make you cry.”
Shaking your head, you told him, “You can’t control what other people say, bubba.”
“I know.”
Harry laid down with you for a while, eager to hold you in his arms and simply exist in your own little bubble. He tried to kiss you, but you wouldn’t let him, claiming your face was covered in tears and snot. He didn’t care, but respected your wishes anyway, kissing your neck and temple instead. Now that Harry was here, you felt silly for letting all of that stuff get to you. You were just glad he decided to come over when he did before you could do something really stupid like suggest a break or break up with him entirely.
You were feeling much better, but you were exhausted, emotionally spent. You had no problem staying in bed the rest of the night, but Harry had other plans. He’d brought everything to make you dinner, and he wanted to do it now more than ever. But when you didn’t get out of bed with him, he grabbed your phone again.
“I know what’ll get you up,” he mumbled, linking your phone to the speaker in your room and queuing up a song. When the opening chords began, your head perked up, but you didn’t move much more than that.
Harry walked back over to you with a couple tissues in his hand. “Blow,” he said, and though you felt like a little kid, you did as he asked, blowing your nose into the tissue. He wiped your nose a couple more times, then tossed the tissues on the bed. “Come on, don’t make me dance all by myself. Not that you could ever resist.”
You watched as Harry straightened up and started to dance to the song he played. He swished his hips and reached his hands out to you. He was right, you couldn’t resist. Slowly getting out of bed, you took Harry’s hand. He immediately pulled you to him, resting his hand on your waist. “Si vieras cómo duele perder tu amor, con tu adiós te llevas mi corazón,” you sang softly, pinching Harry’s cheek when he looked down at you. You spun each other around a couple times, but you eventually just held him and continued to mumble the lyrics until the song eventually ended, grateful for him and everything he did to make you smile.
You leaned up and kissed him, threading your fingers through his hair and hoping that that one kiss would communicate everything you couldn’t find the words to say. Harry kissed you back with the same amount of passion, but pulled away when you reached for the hem of his shirt.
“Later, I have a surprise for you,” he said, but you continued to kiss him anyway. “Lovie, I’m trying to grand gesture,” he whined, but both of you knew he wasn’t annoyed.
Still, you pulled away, kissed the tip of his nose, and let him lead you out of your room, not bothering to take your phone with you.

A Snow Angel and a Substitute
Kristanna Modern AU Rated: T+ WC: 7122
~Completely self indulgent oneshot
--------------
“Yo, Mr. B!”
Kristoff turned around right as the snowball exploded against his shoulder.  His eyes narrowed at the three teenage boys who were busting a gut laughing.
“Get your asses to class!” he yelled, a smirk pulling at the side of his mouth as he brushed the snow off his jacket.
The boys grinned at him and took off running through the deep snow.  Kristoff shook his head and resumed his work with the shovel.  It was a crying shame their rural school never got the walks cleared in the morning in time, forcing parents and children to navigate the blinding white landscape.  He’d seen his fair share of people slip and fall, not to mention that one time he took a tumble on the way to his truck after school.
More students filed off the buses, stepping around him as he resumed shoveling the snow.  It was a long walkway along the front of the school to the bus loop, and he was going to have to hurry back inside to make it in time for the second bell to teach his class.
*****
“There he goes again.”
Anna looked up from where she was sitting at one of the tables in the staff break room.  There were four other teachers, all ladies, looking out the window at someone.   This was a new school for her and her first time substituting at it; if she knew the other teachers better, she might go see that the commotion was about.
“He’s such an angel for doing that,” one of them said.
“Every time it snows.  And he always has a smile on his face,” the first one who spoke answered.
“If I wasn’t married, I would be all over him,” another woman said through a dreamy sigh.
“Ha.  Get in line.  Almost all of us single ladies have already tried and failed to get a date.”
Anna had no idea what they were talking about but curiosity got the better of her and she got up and approached the window.  Outside was a tall man, his blond hair decorated with snowflakes, shoveling the walkways around the school.
The one who spoke first turned slightly, noticing Anna’s presence.  “Oh, you’re Miss Arendelle, right?  The sub for Mrs. Gleeman’s class?”
“That’s me.”  She smiled.  “I’m Anna.”
“I’m Tracy.  Welcome to the school.”  She offered her hand and Anna shook it.  “You get a good look at Mr. B out there?”
“Mr. B?” Anna asked.
Tracy gave her a wicked smile.  “Mr. Kristoff Bjorgman.  He teaches science in the junior high wing.  You’ll see once you meet him.”
Anna was certainly intrigued.  She imagined she’d have a chance to bump into him since she was taking over the Junior High’s English period in the same wing for the entire month while Mrs. Gleeman recovered from knee surgery.
The rest of the teachers introduced themselves and Anna found them all to be warm and inviting.  They included her in their conversation about the goings-on of the school until the first bell rang and all the women broke up to head to their classrooms.
Anna headed to the classroom that the principal had shown her when she’d arrived, and turned the corner to come face to face with a very snow-covered blond man whom she’d been looking at only moments before.
“Oh, hello…” he said, shaking snow off his hair and then brushing it off the shoulders of his coat.  “You must be subbing for Mrs. G.”
Anna was immediately enamored with the pink hue of his cheeks from being out in the cold and exerting himself with the shovel.  “I am,” she said with a smile.  “My name is Anna.”
“Kristoff,” he said, and offered a hand.  “Kids call me Mr. B.”
Anna shook it, expecting it to be cold, but instead it was delightfully warm.  “Nice to meet you, Kristoff.”
He gave her a tiny smile.  “Have a good morning.”  Then he walked around her and straight to the classroom beside hers.
Anna paused at the door to her classroom and took a deep breath.  It was always nerve-racking teaching in a new school she wasn’t familiar with, and grade seven was by far the most ruthless grade she’d ever taught for.  With any luck, she’d get through the day without having a nervous breakdown.
-----
So far, the morning had gone off without too much issue.  There were some rowdy boys in the class to be sure, but none of them did anything too rash beyond talking when they weren’t supposed to be.  The biggest distraction of the morning happened when the classroom next to theirs erupted with noise.
Her students had been reading quietly to prepare for the book report they were going to do on their chosen book, when there was a whooshing sound, a class full of teenagers oohing and ahhing, and then ruckus laughter.  It filtered through the wall with remarkable clarity.
“I can’t wait for science,” whispered one of the boys in the back to his friend.
“Me either,” his friend responded.  “Mr. B is the best!”
That brought hushed murmurs of agreement from other students and within seconds they were all talking.  Anna looked at the clock, and with only five minutes left in the period, she figured she’d let them be.  In the meantime, she took the opportunity to look up this Mr. B on line, only to find that he had no presence there beyond being listed as a teacher on the school’s website.
The bell rang and the kids filed out to head to their next class.  Not long after the grade eights filed in, talking and laughing.  Anna had read over their curriculum and was prepared.  That class went a little quicker since they were discussing their upcoming biography projects and Anna had to answer a lot of questions before the bell rang for lunch.
Anna lingered a moment to gather her notes for the grade nine’s she would be teaching after lunch, then grabbed her bag and headed for the staff room.  Walking passed Mr. B’s classroom, she noticed him out of the corner of her eye.  Pausing, she turned towards the open door and leaned against the frame.
“Do all the teachers eat lunch in their classrooms?”
His head remained still but his eyes looked up from the book he was reading, a sandwich paused half way to his mouth in his other hand.  He blinked at her and finally brough his head up, setting his lunch down.  “Um, no.  But I do.”
“Oh?” Anna cocked her head to the side.  “Is everyone here that insufferable?”
A smirk played out on his lips and he set his book down, looking away from her eyes.  “No, nothing like that.  I just like peace and quiet.”
Anna nodded slowly.  “I get it.  Sometimes I need a breather from all the talking and listening to the students.”
Kristoff looked back and smiled at her but didn’t look like he was going to say anything in response, so Anna told him to have a good lunch and headed to the staff room.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Kristoff was out there again the next morning, shoveling the snow that had fallen overnight.  The school district crews had been there in the afternoon to clear the accumulation from the day, but everything was once again under a blanket of snow.
Anna walked into the staff room to a nearly identical scene from the morning before, only this time where were five other female teachers lined up at the window.  She didn’t bother to join them since it seemed a little juvenile.  Not that she didn’t understand; he truly was a very handsome man, but why bother ogling when he wasn’t interested.  Anna certainly would have joined him if he’d offered her to eat lunch with him yesterday.  Only he hadn’t, so it was fair to assume there was no interest for her either.
She put her lunch in the fridge and headed to her classroom.  There were already a few students milling around in it, and she got everything set up for the day.  Then the junior high door opened and shut and the sound of someone stomping boots on the mat came down the hallway.  Kristoff breezed by her open door a moment later on his way to his classroom without sparing her so much as a glance.
“Yo, Mr. B!” came through the wall a moment later, and the sound of kids bombarding him with comments and questions was drowned out by the second bell.
The day progressed much like the day before, only with the other grade seven and eight classes.  Then the lunch bell rang and Anna headed to the staff room, glancing briefly in Kristoff’s classroom to find it empty.   As soon as she entered the staff area, she could see why.  He was digging around in the fridge, bent at the waist, with every single pair of female eyes staring at his wonderfully shaped back side.
Anna fought with a smile and the urge to break out with laughter.  These women were worse than love struck teenagers.
Kristoff pulled out a brown paper bag and shut the fridge as he turned in her direction.  He almost slammed right into her, and had to stumble back a step.  “Oh, sorry.  Didn’t mean to almost run you over.”
“No worries.”  Anna smiled at him.
The side of his mouth curved up in response but he walked around her and said, “Have a good lunch.”
“You too,” Anna said to his back as he left the room.
Silence stretched on for a moment when Tracy piped up.  “He is so fine.”
A male teacher sitting at a table guffawed at her comment.  “Put it back in your pants, you cougar.  He ain’t interested.”
“I know that,” she snapped at him.  “Doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate that fine form.  Not to mention that perfect ass.”
Some of the ladies in the room giggled while the male teacher rolled his eyes with comedic drama that told her the ribbing was all in good fun.   Anna turned away from the group and grabbed her lunch and found a spot to eat while conversations turned away from the attractiveness of co-workers.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Kristoff never had to shovel the next morning, which disappointed him just a little.  He liked doing it, getting out in the cold fresh air and making life a little better for the parents and students.  One of the gym teachers used to do it, but the guy only shoveled the entryway to the front doors, so when Kristoff got to the shovel before him one morning, he never made a move to grab it again.  It was for the better.  This way the entre walkway was free and clear of deep snow, and Kristoff always got the de-icer to sprinkle if there was ice left on the walks.
One of the good things about not having to shovel at least was not seeing a bunch of faces staring at him from the window of the staff room.  Some of those ladies were relentless.
At least it was hump-day and Kristoff was excited to dazzle the kids with another experiment.  He put his lunch in the fridge, ignoring the stares, and went to his classroom to organize his day.  As the kids filtered in, he was greeted warmly.
He tried not to listen to much of what they were saying, especially when he heard a swear word or two fall out of their mouths, but one of the boys talking caught his attention when he mentioned ‘Miss A’.
“… is so awesome.  She’s so chill.  I like her.”
“Dude, she’s hot!”
“Jackson!” Kristoff warned, not bringing his eyes up from the quiz he was grading.  “Inappropriate.”
“Sorry, Mr. B,” Jackson responded sheepishly.
Kristoff went back to his work.  He understood these kids had hormones fucking up their brains at this age.  Hell, he’d received googly eyes from plenty of the girls over his years teaching.  It was natural for them to feel those feelings.  And of course, not one of them ever acted on them.  Which sadly, couldn’t be said for all teachers.
He’d worked with a guy before who’d crossed the line with one of his students.  Kristoff laid him out with one punch when he found out, and got him fired on the spot.  The girl was consenting and technically eighteen, but it was still so fucking wrong.
He saw a flash of colour scurry past his open door and met Anna’s eyes for one brief second as she hurried down the hall.  Kristoff stared at nothing for a moment, regretting not thinking of something better to say to her when she’d stopped by his classroom that first day.  Truth is, she was hot.  And he was instantly captivated by her eyes and her easygoing smile.
The noise level in the room was getting out of hand so Kristoff had to rein in the students and begin class.  The morning flew by, and before he knew it, the lunch bell was ringing and he was swiftly left alone in his classroom.  He hurried to grab his lunch and managed to get out before too many people came in, and was once again alone in the solitude of his classroom a moment later.
Mid way through unpacking his sandwiches, a familiar voice came from his open door.
“How do you do it?” she asked.
Kristoff looked at her, those clear blue, intelligent, eyes, and felt a jolt of longing.  He hadn’t really ever felt an attraction like this before, and it went well beyond her looks.
“How do I do what?”
“Get them to love you so much,” she said with mock exasperation as she took a couple steps into the room and threw her hands up dramatically.  “Those kids adore you.”
He felt his cheeks warm instantly, and shrugged to her.  “I just like teaching science.”
She shook her head and crossed her arms over her chest.  “Nuh uh.  It’s more than that.  You have a natural talent for reaching these young people.  They look up to you, and they listen to you, and most importantly, they learn from you.”
The heat in his face deepened and he had no idea what to say.
She sighed.  “We all had those teachers growing up.  You remember, right?  The one, or if you’re lucky, two, that really make a difference.  The one’s that leave an impression.  You are one of those.  How do you do it?”
Kristoff was at a complete loss for words.  No one had ever said anything so flattering to him before.  He was further taken with her.
“Well, I’ll leave you to it then.”  She uncrossed her arms and turned back towards the door.
He had a moment of panic, wanting this conversation to keep going only his mind was still drawing a blank.  She was almost out of sight when words finally came to him and came out with halting awkwardness.  “I don’t really know how… I just love science.”
She turned back and looked at him with curiosity.  “You really don’t have like, a secret, or something?”
He shook his head.  “No.  Not at all.  In fact, I’m actually a really quiet person.  I just… like talking about science.”
Anna stared at him, making him a little uncomfortable.  “So you’re basically a unicorn,” she said finally.
The absurdity of the statement made him laugh.  “What?”
She waved her hand in front of her face.  “Never mind.  Just means you’re a rare individual.”  Then she turned and disappeared out the door before he could utter another word.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
He was tired as hell, and shoveling the dump of snow that had fallen overnight was hard work.  By the time he stomped his snow-covered boots on the mat and changed into his school sneakers, he was ready to call it a day and go home.  Only the day was only just starting.
The reason he couldn’t sleep, appeared rushing to her classroom as he approached his door, and she threw him one of those breathtaking smiles as she passed him.
All morning, he struggled to concentrate, leaving his kids quietly passing silent glances at one another.  He finally had more than he could take and told them to just take out their textbooks and read over the material in their unit to study for the upcoming test next week.  While they silently worked, he stared at his computer and tried to make himself work.
He almost dozed off and the bell ran, startling him, which was embarrassingly noticed by almost all of his students.  They filtered out of the class throwing him questioning glances and his next class sauntered in.  He managed to hold it together a bit better, then he looked at the clock, realized how much time was left, and told them to do the same as he did with his other class.
Miss A… Anna… was thoroughly under his skin.
By the time the lunch bell rang, it felt like eight hours had passed instead of four.  He went to the corner of his desk where he’d thrown his lunch bag when he came in.  He was too tired to put it in the fridge and he pulled the items out without really thinking about it and started to eat his first sandwich.
Then she was at his door again.
“It’s noticeably quiet over here today.”
“Pardon?” he asked, his tired mind trying to understand.
“Your classes are kind of loud,” she said, walking into the room and right up to his desk.
He swallowed the sudden thickness in his throat and maintained eye contact with her.  “I’m sorry.  I don’t mean to be a disruption.”
She gave him a brilliant smile.  “That’s not what I’m saying.”  Anna grabbed a nearby student chair and pulled it towards his desk, sitting across from him.  “I just mean the kids seem a little less upbeat today.  And… so do you.”
Did that mean she had been watching him while he was shoveling?  Did she notice that his enthusiasm was not what it was at the beginning of the week?
“Just tired…” was all he could think of to say.
She stared back at him with eyes that were more knowing than anyone else he’d ever met.  “I get it.  We all have those days.  That’s why the kids seem quiet.  They feed off your energy, and when you don’t have it, they worry.”
He frowned.  “You think they worry about me?”
“Of course they do!  That’s all I heard murmured when my next class came in.  They come straight from you to me.”
“They noticed,” he said more to himself than Anna as his gaze fell to his desk.  He was a little taken aback, as this had never really happened to him before.  Upon reflection, he supposed he was pretty constant with his attitude.  No wonder the kids were thrown off.
She nodded.  “Don’t worry, no one is saying anything bad.  Just that you look tired.”
He looked back into her eyes.  “Yeah, I am tired.”
“Why?”
Shit, if his tiredness was throwing his kids off, her question as to why certainty threw him off.   “Just a restless night,” he said carefully.
“That’s too bad.”  She frowned.  “Everything okay?  You need to talk about something?”
The fact that the reason he couldn’t sleep was asking him why, was amusing his tired brain.  “No, it’s all good.  Just couldn’t stop thinking.”
“Ah, I have those nights once in a while.”  She leaned back in the chair.  “Definitely no fun.”
He shook his head slowly, watching her eyes as they flicked to the clock and then back to his desk, before finally coming up and meeting his gaze.  It was all over her face; she was going to get up and leave him to his solitude and join the masses in the break room.  All he had to do was say the words.  She stood and it came out of his mouth.
“If you want, you can bring your lunch here and we could talk.”
A slow smile spread across her face.  “Sure.  I’ll be right back.”
Kristoff watched her leave the room and caught her eyes as she looked back at him.  That was a good sign.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Anna had a restless night, and now she had a better understanding of why Kristoff had looked tired the day before.
The talk they had over their short lunch, had opened up something between them.  It was there, and real, and she could feel it.  Kristoff could too, she could tell.  His eyes bored into hers as they talked, taking her in in the way she was taking him in with hers.  And then the bell rang way too soon.
Anna went back to her room feeling fluttery and light.  She even lingered a moment after class, and waited until she saw him walk past her room, looking in and smiling.  She’d called out that she’d walk to the parking lot with him, and he waited while she put on her coat and grabbed her purse.  The talk was brief, but she was suddenly desperate to find out everything about him.
And then he was on her mind all night long.
The next morning, it hadn’t snowed and the forecast was for clear skies, so Anna went into her classroom early, not surprised one little bit that Kristoff was in his.  She stopped by his door and noticed there was only one kid there so far, reading quietly at his desk.  She was hoping for an empty classroom but this was going to have to do and the student in question was a quiet one.  Not that this wasn’t going to start a rumor.
She approached the desk where he was going through some papers.  “Morning, Kristoff.  How are you?”
He looked up quickly and have her an even quicker smile.  “Morning!  I’m Good, how about you, Anna?”
“I’m good.  A little tired, but you know… pretty good.”  She suddenly felt a little flustered in his warm brown gaze.
“Hmm.  Didn’t sleep well?”
“Not really.”
“Seems to be going around.”
Anna did not miss what he meant by that and by the way he was looking at her.  “How about you?  You catch up on your rest?”
His smile widened and he chuckled low.  “Went to bed at eight, so yeah.  Got nine hours in.”
“That’s great!  I imagine your class will be lively again today.”
“With the experiment I have planned to show the kids, we’ll definitely be disturbing you.”
Anna grinned at him.  “Wonderful.  I love hearing the kids have fun.”
“If it gets too loud though, please let me know.  Mrs. G complained to me all the time.”
“I promise it won’t,” she said, noticing a few kids filtering into the class behind her.  If she was going to go for it, she better get it out now.  “Have a fun morning, and if you want, you can join me in my classroom today for lunch?”
One eyebrow twitched up ever so slightly.  “Sure.  I’d love to.”
-----
Despite Anna’s attempt to keep things low key, she was already hearing kids talk rumors.  And it had only taken a matter of hours for the gossip to spread.  The kids were apparently tickled pink with the idea of Miss A and Mr. B getting together and going on a date.   Now all Anna had to do was get Kristoff to ask her out on one.
Kristoff showed up for lunch before all the kids had left the room, which she knew would further stoke the flames of the chatter.  Not that she really cared.
He asked her all about how she got into teaching and she had a great time talking to him, then the bell rang and they finished teaching out their day and walking to the parking lot together again.  He bid her a good night but did not ask her out.  It had disappointed her, but Kristoff seemed kind of laid-back to her, like he just rolled with it, so maybe he just had no presence of mind to rush things.  Unlike Anna, who had already pictured kissing him, among other things, about a dozen times.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Kristoff parked in the staff lot and lingered in his truck a moment.  There was no snow to shovel, so no real reason to hurry into the school so early.  That, and Anna’s car wasn’t there yet.
He was going to ask her out on a date, of that he was certain.  What he wasn’t so certain about was whether or not it was a good idea.  He’d already heard the kids whisper about them, and it bothered him.  He was very careful to maintain professionalism in the workplace, and while there were absolutely no rules about dating a staff member, the fact that the kids were so into it was weird to him.
He decided to let it go when he saw Anna’s car pull of the main road and made a show of slowly grabbing his bag and getting out of the truck so it wasn’t obvious that he had waited for her.  She parked beside him with a bright smile while he shut his door and lingered.  Her head popped up over the roof of the car a moment later.
“Morning, Kristoff.  Walk in with me?”
He smiled.  “Sure.”
“Just a sec…”  She disappeared back into her car to gather her things.
“No problem.”  It took her a moment, making him smile a little more.  Finally, she gathered her bag and her purse and shut her door.
“TGIF, am I right?”  She laughed, falling in step beside him.
“Definitely.  Any plans for the weekend?”
“Eh, not really.  Call my sister on Sunday, but that’s about it.  Maybe some Christmas shopping.  I like to get that done early.”
So did Kristoff.  In fact, he was already done.
“How about you?” she asked, as they rounded the bus loop and headed towards the front doors.
“Oh, not too much.  Go to my folks for dinner on Sunday.”  He took a quick breath and went for it.  “Maybe take you out for dinner tomorrow night?”
Anna stopped in her tracks only feet from the front door and Kristoff resisted the urge to look at the staff window to see who was spying on them.  That was the whole reason he wanted to ask her when they were alone.  The gossip among the staff was sometimes worse than the children.
She smiled at him in a way he hadn’t yet seen, and it made his stomach do little flips.  “Sure, Kristoff.  I would love that.”
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
On Monday morning, Anna was accosted by Tracy in the staff room.
The woman had her hands on her hips.  “So you and Mr. B went on a date this weekend?”
Anna bristled at the stern look from the older woman.  “How in the hell did you hear about that?”  She’d been careful not to let the kids know about their date plans, and no one had been around when he’d asked her.
“Janice, the kindergarten teacher, was at the restaurant that night and saw the two of you canoodling over dinner.”
“So?  Two consenting adults going on a date isn’t a crime.”
“It is when the man is that fine,” Tracy said, arching and eyebrow and giving Anna and evil smile.  “Good for you, girl.”
Anna smiled and giggled nervously with no idea of how to respond to that.
“I’m just joking with you, Anna.  Relax.”  Tracy left the staff room laughing to herself and Anna’s cheeks were on fire.
She quickly grabbed another coffee and rushed to her classroom, stopping briefly by Kristoff’s open door to smile at him.  Their date, had been magical.  Kristoff was wonderful, kind, honest, intelligent, and sexy as all get out.  He was the man she’d been looking for her entire life.  The sparks flew, and yeah, she supposed they were canoodling over dinner.
Then Kristoff dropped her off at her place, declined the invite inside, then kissed her in the most wonderful, yet chaste way, leaving her weak in the knees.  She was already head over heels about him and could not wait to go on their next date.  If all went well, they’d be spending more of the weekend together than just their Friday night.
*****
Kristoff went on with explaining the science projects that the kids were going to create and test, but his mind was completely occupied with thoughts of Anna and how he already knew that he was going to fall deeply in love with her.
She ignited things in his soul that he didn’t even know were there.  Time with her was some of the best of his entire life.  And the best part was, he could feel the same kind of energy coming from Anna.   She had wanted him to come into her place when he dropped her off, she made that very clear.  But Kristoff was raised with respect and somehow, he managed to decline despite what his body was telling him.  They were going out again this Friday and he knew she was going to ask again for him to come in after their date, and while he planned to say no, wanting to hold out for the third, he had to wonder if he’d have enough strength to deny her again.
SIX MONTHS LATER
It turned out that Kristoff did not possess the strength to be able to deny her again, and after their second date, him and Anna made love for the first time.  They were inseparable after that.
Anna had been set to leave the school when Mrs. Gleeman returned, only to be informed that the healing was taking its toll on the much older woman, and she’d need another three to four weeks of recovery.  Kristoff was sad that Mrs. G (even as grouchy as she always was to him) was having a hard time, but happy that meant Anna would be at the school a little longer.   And with the thought of her eventually leaving the school looming in his mind, he asked her to move in with him only five weeks after their first date.
His home had never felt like home until Anna had moved in.  She made his life so much better, and they did absolutely everything together.  Except, at school it was business, and they kept the fact that they were so involved, from everyone there.   Even Tracy had stopped pestering Anna after not getting the information she wanted.  The kids still talked, because Kristoff and Anna still took turns eating lunch in each other’s classrooms, but with no ammo besides a healthy friendship, the murmurs soon ceased.
More time went on and Anna had been getting genuinely depressed when it was looking like she’d have to move onto another school to substitute at, when low and behold, Mrs. G showed up one morning to meet with the principal and Anna.
Mrs. Gleeman’s daughter, lifelong friends with one of the mothers who Anna taught, had commented about her improvement in her child’s grades and the fact that she was genuinely having a better time at school.  Apparently, Anna’s sharp ears, zero tolerance for bullying and taunting, and constant encouragement to be kind and to help one another, had put an end to her friend’s daughter getting picked on.  Now she even had a couple of good friends and raved about what a great teacher Miss A was.  And apparently, they were not the first parent to comment on the positive changes in their children.
By the end of that meeting, with Mrs. Gleeman’s plans to retire early and her encouragement, Anna had a permanent job teaching junior high English.  She had thanked the older woman and the principal profusely, and went back to her classroom weeping with happiness.  Her students, shocked to see her in such a state, inquired to her emotion.  Kristoff had never heard such a ruckus roar of approval coming from her classroom as she told them she wasn’t going anywhere.  By the end of that day, it was all the kids who entered his class could talk about.
Then, the inevitable happened.  Him and Anna were out bowling on a date in town, when one of their students happened to be there at the same time.  Neither he or Anna had noticed the kid until after a bunch of PDA, and by then it was much too late.  They decided to pretend the student wasn’t there and went about their date.  And as they expected, the following Monday, tongues were wagging among the kids, and they had not stopped for over a week.  Therefore, by that second Friday since that date, Kristoff had an idea to put that to rest once and for all.
He had to put his plan together quickly, informing the principal and other junior high teachers for approval before getting the most important part of his plan.  He was a little nervous, having only been with Anna for six months, but knowing beyond a shadow of a doubt that they were meant for each other.
The morning finally came, and all the junior high students were called into the gym to address the rumors that had been flying around for the past couple weeks.  Kristoff watched them all file in, shaking with nerves.  He couldn’t believe he was about to do this, but having Anna stand by his side, filled him with confidence.
“How could they not have given us a heads up that we had to address this?” she asked him, leaning over to speak low as the remaining kids and teachers came into the gym.  She’d been informed by the principal at the same time as her class that they were all about to meet to talk about two teachers rumored to be in a relationship.
“Uh, actually, this was my idea.”
Anna’s head snapped in his direction and she looked at him with wide questioning eyes.  “And you didn’t tell me?”
Kristoff pursed his lips but didn’t answer her.  The door to the gym swung shut with the last teacher ushering the kids in and he decided to just go for it.
“Hey, hey!”  He held up his hands.  “Quiet down.”  The kids were too excited and the volume didn’t drop one bit.  “Quiet down, please!” he said, louder, repeating himself a few times, and finally the murmurs died down.
He spared a glance at Anna standing beside him, her cheeks alight with embarrassment and looking over all the kids to the back of the room.   He felt a pang of regret, like this was suddenly a really bad idea, then he looked back at the kids and found renewed strength.
“I’ve had several students mention something to me,” he started.  “Raise your hand if you’ve heard a rumor about Miss A and I.”
Every single student raised their hands and started to giggle and talk.  The noise level took off again and Kristoff had to speak over the din.  “Hands down.  Okay!  Hands down, quiet please.”
The students all quieted and Kristoff resumed his speech.  “There is a rumor going around that Miss A and I are dating.  So I think it’s about time that we address that rumor, and confirm that the answer is… yes, Miss A and I are dating.”
The kids freaked out.  They all shouted with genuine glee and Kristoff looked over to see Anna smiling despite the fact that her face was now crimson.  She looked back at him still shocked and wondering what in the hell he was doing given the fact that he had not mentioned this to her beforehand, but also looking a bit more relaxed about the whole ordeal.
It took him a moment to settle the kids back down, all the while his heart hammered away in his chest.  Once the students were finally settled again, he went for it.
“The truth is, we are a little more than dating…”  The murmurs began so Kristoff talked over them to get it out and not prolong this any more than it already had been.  “Because I am completely in love with her.”
The kids gasped and started to cheer again and Anna had started to get emotional at the clear delight and support from their students.  She wiped at her glistening eyes as she looked back at Kristoff, and he raised his hand, waiting a moment to get enough of the chatter down to finish this.
“Quiet, please,” he said loudly, his hand slipping into his pocket.  “Quiet down!”  The noise died and Kristoff took one last nervous swallow, slowly turning to Anna and sinking to his knee.  “I was wondering if Miss A, would like to become Mrs. B?”
Anna’s hands flew to her mouth as the gym erupted with excited screaming.  All Kristoff could do was look at her in question as his words would be drown out by the excited teenagers.  She nodded an enthusiastic yes before offering him her hand to slip the ring onto.  As soon as it was in place he was up on his feet, pulling her into a protective hug while the students carried on their joy for their teachers.   He knew she was going to be shocked, made evident to him in the way she was shaking in his arms, but he knew she would appreciate his plan.
And she did.  Later that night, after a celebratory dinner, she confided in him how wonderful his gesture was to include their kids, and how special she felt.
Then they made love and fell asleep in each other’s arms.
THE NEXT WINTER
“Yo, Mrs. B!”
Anna turned around and ducked anticipating what was about to happen.  The snowball sailed over her head and she gave the now eighth graders a stern look, even though she couldn’t help but smile.  “Get your butts to class, gentlemen!”
The boys laughed and took off to their door with Kristoff chuckling beside her.  “Seem’s like I’m just chopped liver to them now,” he said.  “Those snowballs used to have my title on them.”
Anna laughed.  “Don’t worry.  It’s the first snowfall of the season.  I am sure the next one will have Mr. all over it.”
Kristoff hummed his amusement and him and Anna continued to shovel the walks.  They decided to do it together since it would get done faster, and Kristoff mentioned to her that he was genuinely relived not to see a bunch of faces watching him from the staff room window anymore.
The whole junior high body was invited to their wedding ceremony.  Not to it proper, of course that would have been crazy, but to watch the live stream if they were so inclined.  After the first couple days of their honeymoon, Anna had checked and was surprised to see how many people had actually watched it.  There were tons of wonderful and supportive comments.
Those first two weeks of newlywedded bliss exploring the fjords of Norway, had been the best of Anna’s entire life aside from the day she married her best friend.  Kristoff was the most wonderful person she had ever met in her life, and she was thankful to be able to call him her husband.
They finished shoveling and returned to their classrooms to begin preparing for the day, when the principal made an announcement that he would like all the junior high students to assemble in the gym.   Anna ushered her kids out of the classroom and received a concerned and questioning look from Kristoff when she met him in the hallway.
She shrugged her shoulders and kept back the smile that was fighting to form her lips.  Anna had truly adored the way that Kristoff had proposed, but still vowed to herself to get him back.
The teachers gathered in the corner while the kids huddled together, sitting on the floor and waiting for whatever they were about to be told.  The principal came in, greeted everyone, and got the ball rolling.
“Quiet down, please,” he said, gesturing with his hands for the kids to settle.   “I’ve called you all in her to receive an announcement from one of our teachers.  Mrs. Bjorgman, you have the floor.”
Kristoff’s head whipped in her direction and he stared at her with shock, so Anna decided to get it out while she still had the nerves.
“Well, I have to say that I am going to be taking a leave of absence.”
The students started to murmur with concern and Kristoff went so far as to reach out and grab her hand.
“Anna?” he asked quietly, his tone full of worry.
Anna looked back at him, gave hum a gentle smile, and returned to the kids.  “I will be taking leave of my position at the end of April.”
Hands shot up with questions and Anna felt Kristoff squeeze her hand firmly but did not look over at him yet.  She picked Brie, since she was sitting in the front row.  “Yes, Brie?”
The grade sevener frowned.  ““Are you coming back?”
“Yes, of course.”
The students started to murmur louder and Anna picked another kid with their hand up.  “Yes, Brandon?”
“How long will you be gone?”
The students quieted down immediately to hear the answer.  “A year.”
More hands shot up and Anna felt Kristoff squeeze her hand again.  She picked another student.  “Yes, Samantha?”
“Why are you leaving?”
Anna finally looked at Kristoff, and his expression was in awe.  She knew he was too smart not to figure out what she was going to say next, and she smiled at him, eyes welling up with happy tears.
She turned back to the kids.  “Mr. B and I are going to have a baby.”
Much like Kristoff’s proposal, the kids cheered for them, and Anna let the tears come as Kristoff pulled her into a protective hug.
“Anna, I am so happy,” Kristoff said, his voice wavering with emotion.  “I can’t believe you’ve kept this a secret for four months.”
Anna laughed, not at all surprised Kristoff had done the math.  She pulled back to look at his glassy eyes and happy smile.  “Well, I had to get you back for that surprise proposal.  So… surprise!”
He chuckled, and pulled her into another hug, the volume of the kids rising as they began talking excitedly.  “This is the absolute best surprise,” he said in her ear.  “Thank you, Anna.”
Anna hugged him back tighter.  Her heart was happy and full, and she could not wait to meet their first baby in the spring.
