Mother, i have another poly!moonwater request but its a little angsty and tbh its probs mostly Barty appreciation because i 100% believe he'd be the best support system.

So, it doesnt happen very often but Reggie and reader are fighting. Idk what about, maybe she put herself in unnecessary danger or hid a wound?? But Remus has to take Reggies side or maybe he refuses to get involved.

Anyway, as a result she runs to Barty (i imagine she's his James and hes her Sirius) because he's her safe space and is surprisingly soft and comforting. If its readers fault he would be gently upset with her but calmly talk it out with her however he's still on her side and would hide her away for a couple days and let the boys panic for a minute because thats his person aaaaaand he is a little insane.

Remus, throughout his life, has not been a stranger to conflict. His father spent Remus’ earliest years in constant battle at the Ministry fighting against werewolf rights. That conflict turned into Remus’ own lifelong curse of lycanthropy as a form of revenge. Remus’ muggle mother and wizard father spent many years in conflict over how to best love and support their werewolf son. Remus and his father experienced a lot of conflict when Dumbledore invited Remus to attend Hogwarts despite his lycanthropy. Remus experienced a lot of conflict with pureblood supremacists at school. Remus experienced conflict with his own friends, namely Sirius, after an unfortunate ‘prank’ that nearly cost both Remus and another student their lives.

But one aspect of Remus’ life that had yet to be a source of conflict had been his relationship with you and Regulus.

It seems almost unfathomable that the three of you managed to intertwine your lives without so much as a clash, but it was true. Regulus brought a confident and assured energy to the relationship, you brought an empathetic and quiet energy, and Remus supposed he was perhaps the most easygoing of the three of you, and that was good for the group. 

It is because of this lack of conflict that Remus was very confused to walk into the private study room that the three of you had reserved to find you and Regulus in the middle of a very heated spat.

“And since when don’t you tell me these kinds of things?” Regulus barked angrily at you. Remus actually had to shake his head as if he were hallucinating; he could have easily mistaken Regulus for his brother who was far more hot headed.

“I didn’t know I had to keep you posted on every little thing that happens, Regulus; I was busy.” You spat back.

“Whoa, okay. What have I missed?” Remus asked cautiously, placing his book bag down slowly on the table as if the situation in front of him were a live wire.

“Your girlfriend” Regulus spat as if girlfriend was a dirty word, “fainted today. And I had to hear about it from Pandora!”

Remus ignored most of the things that came out of Regulus’ mouth at the sound of ‘fainted’.

“Dovey! What happened?” He asked, looking to you in horror.

“What happened is she’s been overworking, under-sleeping, under-eating, and she needs to learn to say no to people!”

You scoffed at that. “You mean learn to say no to McLaggen. Just say it Regulus, this about me tutoring the sod in Herbology.”

“This isn’t about some bloke, Y/N!”

“You fainted?” Remus interjected, looking you over as if he may see signs of a fall. He did suppose you looked slightly peaky, but you were clearly worked up over whatever was going on with Regulus.

“Only a little.” You mumbled; voice still taut with impatience though you lowered the derision in your voice when you spoke to him.

“Right. And tell me, how does one only faint a little?” Regulus sneered.

You met him head on, grunting “Knock it off, Regulus. I mean it.” 

Remus noticed a slight quiver in your lip, but you stood your ground. He couldn’t say he completely disagreed with Regulus, but he didn’t think shouting at you like this was particularly helpful.

“Dove, we’re only worried about you. It makes us nervous if you’re not taking care of yourself and we don’t know about it, if we at least knew-” He tried, but you scoffed again, but this time at Remus. 

“Of course you’d side with him. I don’t need the two of you looking after me!”

“Well apparently you do.” Regulus barked. You didn’t bother dignifying that with an answer.

“Can we just talk about this later, please?” You asked quietly, eyes turning towards the table.

“No, we’re talking about this now. Because Salazar only knows what I’ll be hearing from Pandora next!”

“Maybe I didn’t say anything because this is exactly how I knew you would act.” You glowered at him.

“Are you even supposed to be out of the infirmary yet? What were Madame Pomfrey’s instructions?” Regulus demanded.

“I’m not doing this right now. You’re acting-”

“What were the matron’s instructions?” He asked again, voice threateningly low.

“Stop it, Regulus, I'm ser-”

“When I ask a question, you answer me.” Regulus ordered; voice booming and full of authority. 

You paused in packing up your bag to look at Regulus, holding his gaze as if daring him to utter another word. The atmosphere went from the heat of battle to ice cold in a matter of seconds.

Remus took one last look at Regulus, knowing this would be it; this was how they would lose Regulus. He’d have to tell Sirius that his brother was dead, and it was just better if they all moved on. Cause of death? Oh, Y/N burnt him to ashes with nothing but a glare.

You dropped your bag back onto the table and took a step towards Regulus, dropping into a verydramatic curtsey, making sure Regulus watched.

“Yes, Master Regulus.” You sneered with contempt before returning to your full height, eyes still never leaving Regulus’. “I seem to have forgotten myself. I live to serve the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black.”

And with that, you snatched your book bag and left the study room, slamming the door behind you. 

Remus was admittedly very surprised everyone survived this ordeal, though he took a moment to examine Regulus’ form.

“Well...” Remus started. “You’re not bleeding.”

Regulus let out a breath he’d been holding and sunk into his chair. “I don’t...I don’t understand. Was I wrong?”

Remus felt like this may have been a trick question. “Well, I don’t think you were right.”

Regulus looked over miserably at that, eyes begging Remus for comfort. Remus unfortunately couldn’t give it. 

“I’m sorry, love. You went too far.”

“I should go after her.” Regulus sighed, looking like he was thinking of getting up.

“Do you value your life?”

“Remus...”

“You need to let her cool off, Reg.”

“But-”

“I mean it, Regulus.” Remus said sternly, raising his eyebrows at the shorter boy. “You were too angry to see it but she was very upset – probably even more so if she’s already not feeling well.”

Regulus crossed his arms not unlike a petulant child being told they weren’t allowed to have a cookie before supper.

“Fine, but soon it won’t just be Y/N I have to convince to forgive me.”

Remus, completely unsympathetic to his boyfriend’s grumblings, smirked as he took out his homework. 

“Well, perhaps that’s what you get for acting like your father.”

Regulus let out a very inelegant groan and let his head fall onto the table with a thunk.

Everyone had their person, for better or for worse. Sirius had James, Regulus had Pandora, Remus had Lily, and you...well, you had Barty.

And perhaps whatever Barty lacked in terms of critical thinking skills and sanity, he made up for in terms of loyalty and enthusiasm. 

You knocked on the door to Barty’s dorm from the hallway when you heard a muffled “occupado!” through the wood.

“Barty? It's me.” You called quietly, hearing the sound of a locking charm being lifted from the door immediately.

You pushed open the door to see Barty laying back against his pillow with a cigarette in his hand and Evan Rosier laying on top of him with a book as he read. 

“Hiya, treasure. Where’d ya leave Reggie?” Barty asked, blowing smoke away from Evan’s book.

“We got into a fight.” You admitted quietly. 

Suddenly, Barty’s cigarette was flicked towards the fireplace and Evan was, very roughly and unceremoniously, dumped from his lap.

“Ah! Fuckin’ hells Junior, what was that for?” Evan muttered as he rubbed the back of his head, standing from his newfound place on the floor.

“Out! I need time with my beloved!” Barty squawked, sitting up further against the headboard and opening his arms for you as an invitation.

“Wha- what do you mean? I’m your sodding boyfriend!” Evan beseeched. Barty spared the boy a glance at that.

“Exactly, you’re only my boyfriend, Y/N is my soulmate. Now out with you.” He dismissed, returning his eyes to you. 

You (somewhat meekly as you passed Evan) made your way over and crawled into Barty’s lap as Evan let himself out of the dorm room (his own dorm room, mind you).

“Alright, my sweet treasure, spill. What are his crimes?” He murmured into the top of your head.

“He yelled at me.” You said meekly, voice turning up at the end as you felt tears well in your eyes.

“Dementor’s kiss.” He proclaimed without hesitation. “Egregious, absolutely horrific crime.”

“Barty...” You moaned.

“What? I’m not kidding, I want him dead. Yelling at my sweet girl like that. For shame.”

You let out a sigh as the first few tears fell onto Barty’s shirt. You knew he was seriously hurt on your behalf for not saying anything about ruining his silk button up.

“What reason could he possibly have had to yell at you?” He murmured again into your hair, rocking you back and forth.

“I fainted... in class today.” You admitted with a grimace.

As you expected, Barty paused in his movements and lifted you up off of his body to examine you.

“Fainted!?” He hollered. “How, treasure?”

You groaned and leaned forward, wanting to hide your face in Barty’s chest again. Thankfully, he allowed you to do so.

“I don’t know...Madame Pomfrey said it could be a few things. Not enough sleep, not eating enough, stress.”

“And he yelled at you for that?”

“Well...sort of.”

Barty hummed in acknowledgement but allowed you to sit in silence as he rubbed circles onto your back.

“He was mad because he found out from Pandora.” You admitted. 

“Hmm, sounds like Regulus felt stupid. Not an easy task, sweets, Salazar knows I’ve tried.” Barty determined.

“How do you mean?” you asked into his chest.

“He just always seems to know the answers when I-”

“Not that, Barty!”

“He didn’t know you had fainted, and it sounds like he perhaps didn’t even realize you were unwell. He would have thought that made him look like a fool, which it does.” He explained, lacing the words at the end of his sentence with disdain.

“Barty...” you chided.

“I mean, come on treasure; you have two boyfriends, and one of them is a Slytherin! You’re telling me neither of them noticed their most perfect, sweetest angel was struggling? Foolish. You can’t blame Lupin, though, he is a Gryffindor after all; hanging with the likes of those oafs ought to cost him a couple brain cells each day. Hey, listen... you say the word and you and Lupin are more than welcome to shack up with me and Evan.”

“Barty!”

“I’m just saying!” He yielded, holding his hands up in surrender. His faux-serious façade fell away when he noticed the corner of your lips quirk into a smile.

“I’m sorry he yelled at you.” He offered.

You half sighed half groaned as you fell back into Barty’s chest.

“I guess he was just worried about me...” You relented.

“Yes. But don’t make it easy on him, okay? It’s fun to see the sod sweat every now and again.”

“Regulus...I don’t know if this is a good idea. I really think we should let her come to us.” Remus muttered quietly from behind Regulus, but he wasn’t having any of it.

This had gone on too long, in Regulus’ opinion. You were hiding in Barty’s dorm room whilst Regulus stayed in Remus’, and while he loved Remus, he hated Gryffindor, and he missed you.

“Enough is enough, Remus. I want her back.” Regulus declared as he stepped up to his door and banged on the back of it none too gently.

“Junior!” He barked through the door. “I want my girlfriend back!” 

“No one’s home!” Barty called through the door. 

Regulus rolled his eyes so far back into his head even he was sure they were going to get stuck there.

He put his hand on the door handle and was hit immediately with a localized stinging jinx, causing him to rip his hand back off of it and hold it to his chest protectively. 

“Ow! Fuck Junior, what did you do!?” He called through the door. 

“Leave a message!”

“Oh, I’ll leave you a message alright.” Regulus spat.

“Dovey?” Remus tried calling gently through the door. “Can we come in? Please?”

It was quiet for a moment before Barty answered for you. “No.”

Remus shared an eyeroll of his own before cautiously touching the doorknob – apparently it had only been cursed against Regulus. 

“Okay, I’m opening the door.” Remus warned.

“I wouldn’t do that! I’m shagging your girl in here.” Barty called.

Regulus watched Remus’ face and knew two things to be true: that Remus was 97% sure that wasn’t true, and that Moony was very worried about that 3%. Ultimately, it appeared that Moony had won, causing Remus to barrel into the room rather ungraciously. 

Barty was sat in a chair with his feet kicked up on a desk and a book in his hand, which he lowered to examine the two intruders casually.

“That was very rude, you know. What would you have done if the lady had been indecent.” Barty scolded, using his book to point at your curled up form on Regulus’ bed, pointedly facing away from Remus and Regulus. 

Regulus felt his heart crack painfully at the sight, sharing a look with Remus who gave him an encouraging nod.

“Amour?” Regulus called gently, moving around the side of the bed in an attempt to see you. His heart cracked again when you hid your face in your arm.

“Please, my love. I’m...I’m so sorry.” He pleaded, kneeling down in front of you and cautiously stroking your arm. “I should never have spoken to you like that, I...I was wrong. And rude. And out of line. I’m sorry. Please? Please look at me, mon amour, laisse-moi arranger ça?” 

You turned your head up at that, and the final splinter that carved Regulus’ heart into two was the tear stains on your cheeks. 

“Oh, mon amour, je suis vraiment désolé. Je suis le pire, je suis vraiment désolé.” 

“Your fancy sweet talk won’t do you any good here, Black!” Barty hollered from his place across the room. “I’ve already told her that she and Lupin are more than welcome down here with me.” He added with a lascivious wink in Remus’ direction.

Regulus could see Remus’ cheeks pink at the compliment, but he also gulped at the threat.

“Say it ain’t so, mon amour.” He said to you, caressing your arm with one hand and delicately taking yours in his other, bringing it to his lips for a delicate kiss. “Is it finally happening, are you going to leave me for another? Surely you can do better than Junior, non?”

Regulus’ heart sped up almost double time as you offered him a watery smile. “No.”

“No? You can’t do better than Junior?” He teased.

You rolled your eyes as you sniffled and tried to wipe some of your tears away. “No, I’m not leaving you, you sod.”

“Oh, thank gods.” Regulus sighed dramatically, letting his head fall into the bed in front of him. He heard you chuckle above him, and you moved your hand into his hair, gently massaging his scalp.

“Oi! How come he gets head scratches for being a wanker and I get jilted?” Remus pouted from the middle of the room.

“Oh, come here lover boy.” Barty cooed at him, opening his arms and spreading his legs to make room from the lycanthrope.

Remus let out an awkward ‘erm’ from the middle of the room before you chuckled and invited Remus to join you for his own head scratches.

He opted to curl up behind you as the big spoon and wrap his arms protectively around your middle, adding his hand to Regulus’ shoulder as he still knelt on the floor at the head of the bed. Perhaps not the best angle for head scratches, but he was clearly very happy with his current predicament.

“Right then; have either of you tossers seen Rosier?” Barty asked as he stood from his chair.

“Common room.” Remus and Regulus answered in unison.

“Thanks.” He said as he made his way to the door. “Stay out of the bathroom for a while, yeah? I owe that sod so many blowjobs after all of this.”

Movie is mostly focused on the kids and their grandad, but David has a few moments, and he's generally present throughout. Funny, slightly shocking at times, family film. No major angst. Character death.

There's a scene where Phileas gets flogged (whipped, essentially) quite violently, and it's somewhat graphic. Touches on themes of racism. Phileas is 100% neurodivergent.

So, this one is a Jegulus and Wolfstar ff, modern AU, without magic, and Sirius stayed with the Blacks for Regulus, and the fic is on how it impacted their lives, and how they get out. Reg is trans in this one, and misgendered for a while, bc he doesn't even know he is trans. Once he knows, pronouns are adapted.

I, Carrion 7 chapters/8

It's a Regulus centric fic, where he is trans. There's no pairing in this one, but once i finish this one, it will be in a serie, and the rest should have a Jegulus pairing.

There is some thing I am curious about and I hope it is ok to ask you 🙏 I read Jily but I am not that involved in jily fandom to have the answer myself.

What do jily fans think about jilypad or in general any pairing that is a triad with them? Is James + Lily + x = agreeable for jily fans?

For example in prongsfoot or wolfstar fandom a lot of people don't like either Remus ( in case of prongsfoot) or James ( in case of wolfstar ) emotionally involved at all , and wolfstarbucks mostly only works in a sexual way for lots of fans to have hot smut. xD

Now, I am curious about Jily. I am writing a jilypad fic and I really want to know what jily fandom think about emotionally involving someone else as well as sexually. Someone like Sirius who makes sense there I mean, not an abstract triad like jegulily. 😭

The Jily fandom is decently sized, slightly fragmented, and of course everyone has their own opinions - so obviously there's no one single answer to this.

I must admit I haven't really seen other poly ships around the Jily fandom. When there's another love interest involved, it's usually triangles and antagonistic situations (and usually with OCs so that there's no emotional involvement to detract from the Jily of it all).

That said, at least in the corner of the fandom I usually interact with, Jilypad has been garnering interest lately. The Jily fandom holds huge appreciation for Sirius as a character and for the love between him and Jily, which leads to him being welcome as part of a triad with emotional involvement. Ideally, it all being about love and connection and support etc etc between all three parties. Stuff like cheating (on anyone), bashing (of anyone) don't go so well unless they are very short introductions to hot Jilypad smut where all ends well. Whereas I can imagine that angsty dilemmas but without morally questionable actions, that find a happy ending in Jilypad, would go over much better.

Overall, I'd say that if you were to choose a triad to pitch to Jily fans, Jilypad is your best shot. I can't imagine anything else, not even with Remus, going half as well. And I'd go so far as to add that the Jily fans would want their Jilypad to have Sirius emotionally involved and not just there for the hot smut.

Possible Fanfiction??

Throughout my entire life, I have always loved writing and for most of that time, I have been utterly obsessed with the Marauders. I want to write fanfiction, I have in the past but mostly for only myself and maybe a few other people. I want to write fanfiction... and I have an idea but I want to make sure it is something that people would read or that people find interesting.

First and foremost I want to do a multiship kind of thing and at the moment Jegulus has been swarming my mind so it will probably centralize that but that doesn't mean there won't be other prominent ships within my writing. I am also a huge Wolfstar shipper; as is everyone else. I also would like to include ships such as Mary and Lily, Barty and Evan, and Marlene and Dorcas (all of them are my favorites and if you don't like them I am sorry but I won't be able to delve into a story I am not 100% invested in) I know that these ships are basic but... basic is comforting to me.

Anyway, to the actual fanfiction idea. I want to do a Bridgerton AU. I was playing around with how I would want to do this in my head and obviously I am not going to be revealing everything but... I think it could work really well. I love very detailed metaphorical writing and I really wanna bring on the sappy romantic angsty torture. I am thinking of dividing up the ships just as the Bridgerton books are where every season focus' on a new ship. I would like to initially focus on Jegulus in the beginning but there will be an introduction to each of the ships in the first season for sure.

Obviously, some things are going to need to change which would make it historically inaccurate. Not that Bridgerton is historically accurate but by any means. The changes that are going to have to be made is who is eligible to be the diamond of the season and I think I am going to change it to whoever the family elects for that season the one running through. Obviously, some of these decisions are based on age but as for gender if a mother needs a head of the house than her son will not be eligible to become a diamond. James is an only child and therefore will not be able to become a diamond as he is required to learn how to take care of the house. Effy and Monty will have no choice but to remain diamondless- As for the house of the Blacks, Sirius through Walburga's opinion is nowhere near diamond material and therefore the responsibility gets passed to Regulus. Sirius and James would have traditionally been within the same season but because of Sirius' parents' belief, Regulus will be the one searching for a true love match. I also think it's going to be super fun to mess around with the whole Lady Whistledown situation.

PLEASE, if you see this tell me if you would be interested. If anyone says that would read it I will start figuring out the details of the first season. I am literally so excited about this and would love nothing more than other people's support for it.

The gaudy pink draperies fluttered next to Lily as she stared out the window of the banquet hall, sipping her champagne. She glanced back over her shoulder into the ballroom with a frowned, spotting Petunia and Vernon schmoozing with the tall, curmudgeonly man with the bushy mustache who was her new brother-in-laws boss. Her sister’s bony shoulders stood straight as she chatted with the boss’ slightly round wife, whose large hair almost blocked Lily’s view of Petunia. She lifted the glass to her mouth only to find it was empty. Her eyes rolled as she began the walk back to the open bar. Skirting the edge of the ballroom, she dodged various wedding guests as she finally reached the bar. 

The bartender looked up to see the familiar redheaded sister of the bride approaching the bar for her third--or was it fourth?--drink of the night. Propping his elbow on the bar he asked, “So, what’ll it be? Champagne again?” 

Lily took a moment to ponder the decision, eyebrows crinkling in thought, before responding. “No. Not enough buzz. Hit me with… a scotch. No rocks.” She set her empty champagne flute down on the bar with a clink as the young man turned to pour her scotch. In a moment he was turned back around with a lowball glass clinking in his hand. She took it from him, stared at it for a moment and then took a swig, scrunching her face as the liquor burned in her mouth.

“Thanks,” she said, nodding at the bartender as he gave her a slightly concerned smile. She stumbled a bit as she walked away from the bar only to be caught by a pair of strong arms.

“Ah, Lilyflower! I was wondering where you’d wandered off to! I was trapped in the midst of a stunningly fascinating conversation with your father. Explaining to me all the different types of fir trees, and which one is best for Christmas.” She faced him and sipped her scotch once more. 

“Woah, I see you’ve moved on from champagne. Are you… sure you want to keep drinking? At Petunia’s wedding?” His disheveled hair swayed as he moved to keep her from stumbling into a portly uncle as he passed by. “Why don’t we move over here…” He pulled her toward an empty table along the edge of the room, and upon reaching it and being downright assaulted by the vibrant pink frills decked with white roses, she stopped abruptly.

“No, I don’t think so.”

“What?”

“I said, no, I don’t think I want to sit down. I’vehaden-ough of this bloody wedding!” Lily hiccuped her way through the outburst, tossed back the rest of her scotch, and slammed the glass onto the table. She turned on her heel, leaving James to jog to catch up to her.

The seventeen year old boy glanced around, looking out for his girlfriend’s parents as he matched her pace. He was not quite sure they were aware that the open bar had served their slightly underage daughter, and was quite sure that upon a drunken display from Lily, his brilliant early impression on them would be ruined. 

“What’re you doing Lils?” he asked as she led them, or led herself rather, towards where Petunia and Vernon were still greeting guests. She only stopped once, briefly, to take yet another flute of champagne from the tray of a passing waiter, sipping it as she walked determinedly toward the newlyweds. James attempted to extricate the glass from her hand but failed as she swerved it away from him to take another drink. 

“I’m going to give my sister a piece of my mind, dammit! Where does she bloody hell get off on not including her own sister in the wedding party?” She turned and he barely stopped himself in time to avoid a collision. She spoke again, softer this time, and a tear began to roll down her rosy cheek. “I was supposed to be her maid of honor… All those years ago, before all of this wizarding business, we had it all planned. And it wasn’t any of this pink nonsense that Marge pushed on her. It was… beautiful and classic… and I was part of it.” James reached up to stroke her cheek, wiping away the small tear. 

“Now, her whale of a husband’s sister has hijacked our plans and wormed her way in, and I’ve barely gotten an invitation! Who the blooming hell does she think she is replacing me with Marge! No.” She brought the back of her hand to her face, wiping away the snot and tears and gently swiping her fingers under her eyelids to catch any runaway makeup. “No. I’m going over there right now and I’m going to make her look me in the eye and TELL me where it all went wrong. What I bloody did to deserve this.” 

She started off towards Petunia, James following quickly behind. The champagne glass teetered dangerously in her left hand and before it happened James saw it, but he was just a step too far away to prevent it. The broad, obnoxiously pink shoulder of Marge Dursley swung out into Lily’s path and before anyone could move the champagne had been flung down the front of her gown. The liquid soon spread downward, leaving behind a large darker spot in the deep blue material of Lily’s dress. The redhead stood frozen as the behemoth of a woman turned to assess the casualties of her wayward shoulder. Upon seeing Lily’s shocked expression and the growing spot on her gown, a smug smirk crept onto her face.

“Sorry, dear,” the large woman said snidely. “I didn’t see you there. I do hope the stain will come out.” 

The woman waddled away revealing Petunia, clad in her slim wedding dress looking apathetic and displeased. “James, would you mind escorting my sister somewhere where she can... clean up?” the thin woman said quietly, the words cutting the air like darts.

“We may just be off then, if it’s all the same to you. A lovely party, and congratulations. To you both,” he added awkwardly acknowledging the presence of the groom who had wisely chosen to stay out of the silent conflict, instead tossing Lily a disdainful look. 

“Thank you,” Petunia said brusquely, turning back towards her new husband and the relatives who were still lined up to talk with the happy couple.

Lily stepped toward her sister but James stopped her, whispering, “Please Lil, let’s just go.” It didn’t take much for the determination in her eyes to drop into defeat, and she slowly walked with him away from her prudish sister. 

The magical couple said their goodbye to Lily’s parents, referencing the time and an early train as their meager excuses. Lily’s heart cracked a bit at her mother’s expression, as it was one that seemed to finally acknowledge the severe distance between her two daughters. With a firm handshake for James from her father and a tight hug for her from her mum, the teenagers were off, back out to the front of the banquet hall.

Looking out into the cold night, they realized it had begun to rain. The two of them were still blocks away from the nearest safe point of apparition in the small muggle town and Lily let out an exhausted laugh at the utter disaster of the evening. Finally, James grabbed her hand and together they sprinted out into the downpour.

Upon arriving back at James’ mansion, where they were staying the night before returning to Hogwarts, Lily stopped in the entry to look at herself in the gilded mirror there. Her dripping red hair, her soaked dress, makeup running down her face. She sighed as she watched James step up behind her. 

“Well, at least the rain’s gone and blended in the champagne,” he offered in an attempt to lighten the mood. Unfortunately for him, his comment only prompted more tears from his still-drunk girlfriend as she began to push her fingers through her tangled hair. 

“Hey, hey, hey…” he said softly, wrapping his arms around her as he spoke. “Tonight was a terrible situation. I can’t even tell you how mad it makes me, the way Petunia treats you. But what I can tell you is that I love you, and I’m always, always, going to be here for you.” He brushed the hair out of her face and tilted her chin up with his index finger. “And, for the record, my wedding plans fully involve you. And absolutely no trace of the color pink, so…” 

She began to smile as he pulled her in closer and pressed a kiss to her rain-soaked temple. “Thank you, James.” He smiled as she grabbed his hand and began pulling him toward the large, wooden staircase. “That’s a good look for you actually, the whole ‘rain and champagne soaked evening wear’ look? You know, very mysterious. ‘Is it alcohol? Is it rainwater?’ Leaves everyone interested in the story you know.” She laughed for the first time that evening at his terrible humor and nestled into his side as they made their way up the stairs.

foreigner’s god: this is somehow both a scathing indictment of commercial litigation and also a reincarnation Jily fic. trust me, IDK how we got here either. this fic is the answer to the prompt: “lovers in a past life but the new iterations are enemies to lovers and don’t remember their past lives,” which I saw and said “huh. guess it’s time to make that even more high concept, because I don’t have a life.” rated M

the ease of breathing: fluff one shot because I am A Loser who likes to write no-plot established relationship Jily to ease the slog of living. in this one, they say the big ILY for the first time. cute and James POV! rated G

spice and honey: Lily tags along with Petunia, her less-than-fantastic food journalist sister, to interview the young Michelin-starred rebel-chef James Potter, who proceeds to be unrealistically attractive and VERY interested in Lily. based entirely upon a 1988 mini-doc I watched on Marco Pierre White, because when I hyperfixate, I hyperfixate HARD. rated T

Icarus Falling: the Death Eaters have really fucked up this time!!! They’ve abducted Lily Evans Potter, and now they’re going to feel the very angsty wrath of one James Potter. and then die. they’re probably going to do that too. Has some dark themes, some violence y’all. rated (STRONG) T

BMWW 2: Revenge of the Nicknames: “Balcony Man” and “Window Woman” are back and crazier than ever! in which Lily and James stay up all night talking, Sirius is sassy af, and Peter makes a brief but impactful appearance. includes a first kiss, some mutual ogling, and lots and lots of (hopefully) funny bantering. rated T

invictus: angsty wartime!Jily dealing with the death of an Order member during a party at the Marauders’ house. Lily-centric, dealing in her grief and how it is to be a soldier at her age. rated M

I’d no idea (on what ground I was founded): Sirius and Harry have a late-night chat in Grimmauld Place about what James and Lily looked like. very much Harry Potter feelings, very much Sirius Black feelings. angsty!! rated G

color theory: essentially, how Lily falls in love with James in the wake of a failed first relationship.  we see her grow and understand more about herself and what it means to love and be loved. rated G

Growing Pains: small, They Lived AU where James is an emotional dad after school drop-off for his lil’ baby Harry, and Lily is a little bit exasperated but SO in love with him for it. Very fluffy. rated G

these babes

This is for all 3 of you who wanted me to wax poetic about roy/jamie, which is maybe my favorite ship i've ever shipped and i've already written like 100k about in less than a year and have like 30 more fics in the works about oof.

when i started shipping it: literally like, ep 1x04 for the children i was already like GOD I HOPE THERE'S FIC ABOUT THEM but it was feb of 2021 and, spoiler, my partner assured me there was no fic about them, but i was already in love and i just shipped them more and more as the series went on.

my thoughts: god, uhm, i just really think they need each other. like, they challenge each other and compliment each other and they have more in common than either one of them will probably ever admit. so much of both of their stories just relies on the other being there and their arcs are intertwined. i can't wait to watch their friendship/relationship grow, and it's just so easy for me to see how they learn and grow together and continue to just make each other the best versions of each other. if you read any of my fics, i'll tell you how easy their dynamic is for me to see and grasp and hold onto. i just love them so fucking much.

what makes me happy about them: LITERALLY EVERYTHING like seeing how far they've come but as individuals and together in their friendship/relationship by the end of season 2. the joyful moment at the end of season 2 where they celebrate together after everything they've been through, the way jamie really really wants to learn from roy and the way roy learns from jamie, despite himself, the way roy holds jamie up when he's at his lowest fucking point in the entire series when no one else can because in that moment it had to be roy. it's such a perfect fucking story for me. it hits everything i love in a pairing and a dynamic and a friendship.

what makes me sad about them: probably that i know they'll never be canon sometimes i just think about it and i get so sad because i think the chemistry between brett and phil is amazing and i think they'd be down and i just love their dynamic and i can see a clear pathway and i just want it to be real with my whole heart.

things done in fanfic that annoy me: when jamie is stupid because i don't think he is. i think he tends to misspeak or use words that he doesn't quite understand because he's a sponge and he hears something and will use it how he thinks is right but he wants to learn and grow and i think he's just smart in a way that's more subtle. he's definitely more emotionally smart that people give him credit for. ask @uglyuglyboy how much i have RANTED about this. i also have noticed a trope of jamie being sexually assaulted and i just am so not into it, though i get that some people are into that in fics. mostly it's just preference stuff and more than annoying me i just kind of avoid reading things i'm not really into. i do tend to be really nitpicky about jamie because i just love him so so much that i can't help it, and i have very specific ideas about him. it's a personal problem. i'm working through it.

things i look for in fic: honestly, i'm just a sucker for a happy ending, really. there's not much else i look for. i tend to love things that are funny and happy and also a little angsty. i just like angst that doesn't get too dark. don't like dark fic because i can't really handle it. i just want jamie to be loved because i think he needs and deserves it.

who i'd be comfortable ending up with besides each other: i mean in a perfect world, no one i just want them to be together, but i like ot3 with keeley well enough and would accept it. i'd say either of them with keeley but then there's no one i want the other with so SHRUG SHRUG.

my happily ever after for them: jamie captain of the england team, roy there in the stands to support them, happy and together and james tartt fucking dead in the ground somewhere because fuck that guy.

who is the big spoon/little spoon: roy is the big spoon jamie is the little spoon (except sometimes roy needs to be the little spoon but he never admits it or asks - jamie just learns how to read him enough that he knows when roy needs it)

what is their favorite non-sexual activity: i love to imagine them having just quiet domestic moments. jamie sitting on the counter and bugging him while roy makes them dinner, roy sitting quietly and reading a book while jamie yells at the tv (because you know he does - only someone who yells at the tv would think it's okay to yell at actors in a play), lounging together on holiday. i think when all is said and done they could really just enjoy peaceful quiet moments together because they both need it and they know each other well enough that the silent moments are nice and not awkward.

"Remus John Lupin!" You shouted as you stood in the middle of the Clock Tower Courtyard with your hands resting on your hips, lips pursed in anger.

"I don't want to talk about this anymore." He replied as he was about to walk away.

"No! I am so fed up of you always running away when I dare to ask about your disappearances. I have the right to know." You spoke as you walked over and stopped right before him, looking up into his dark orbs. "We have been together for almost a year. I deserve an explanation. I feel like you are keeping something from me." You tried this time in a calmer manner.

"I'm sorry." He heaved a deep sigh as he was about to talk again, but he didn't.

"Talk to me, please." You placed your hands on his chest as you inched closer to him.

"I can't." He got hold of your wrists, removed them from his body and walked away. You didn't even bother to turn around. You just let your words escape.

"Why are we even together if you can't trust me enough?" You sounded broken and weak, but he knew how hurt you have been even without hearing your voice. He knew it was all his fault. He was scared. He was afraid you would leave him, but most of all, he was terrified of hurting you.

"I guess, you are right." He blurted out, making you spin around in your place.

"What?" You exclaimed as your wide eyes were plastered over his back. He didn't turn around. He didn't even look at you for a mere second.

"I guess, we shouldn't be together. I clearly can't trust you." Silent tears left your eyes, your cheeks soaked in the liquid. You felt as if you have been stabbed on the chest and was struggling to breath.

"You don't mean that." You tried to fight the inevitable.

"I do. I don't think we should be together." He shook his head, looking up at the Clock Tower. "I think it's better if we just leave each other alone." His voice didn't even break at his words, making you feel as if you meant nothing to him. As if you have not showed him how much he meant to you. As if you have been at fault for everything that has gone bad in your relationship.

"Remus, please... don't do this. You know I love you. I really do. If I didn't show you well enough, then just tell me how to. Please don't leave me..." You sobbed. His words cut deep and you felt your heart being clenched in your ribcage stronger and stronger the more he stood in silence. "I thought everything was okay a couple of days ago. Have I done something? Let's talk this through." You attempted to save the situation, but he slowly shook his head.

"Nothing is okay. I don't... I don't want this anymore. I don't want to be with you anymore." He spoke firmly. Each and every word of his cutting deeper. You stared at his back, no words wanting to leave your lips anymore. You loved him to your core and you have never dared to imagine a break up. You were just perfect together. Of course you did fight on occasions, mostly about the secret he has been keeping from you, but it has never gone this far.

You were watching his brown sweater, the way the horizontal lines ran across the clothing, the way the bottom of his jumper wrinkled on his back.

You went numb. Your thoughts were all a mess, making you unable to process the situation. He meant everything to you, but he didn't even take a look at you as he ended the happiest part of your life.

You heaved a deep sigh and walked up to him to stand beside him. You wiped off the tear stains from your cheek and sighed once more, forcing your words out.

"I hope you will find happiness in the future." Your voice was soft and light, barely audible. It was full of sadness and guilt, feeling as if it was all your fault. That you could have done more. That you might have done something you weren't even aware of. Maybe you argued with him too much. Maybe you didn't show your feelings clearly enough. Maybe... you were just not good enough.

You walked away from him, heading up to your dormitory, wishing to be as far as possible from the person who just broke your heart into the tiniest pieces. You dropped on your bed, sobbing into your pillow, going through each and every happy moment you have experienced with Remus. His light kisses, his loving hugs, his strong hold around your hand. He was your everything and you were beyond heart broken.

He didn't even look at you as he broke off your relationship, confirming that all along it was you that felt deeply about him, but he didn't even care enough to look you in the eye while leaving you.

You didn't want to hate him, hell you couldn't have, but your pain was unbearable. After what happened, you weren't sure he has ever loved you. You thought, maybe it was just an act. He got rid off you so easily, it hurt how simple of a step it was for him to take, while you had to suffer this horrible heartache. It was unfair and you wanted nothing, but to forget him, to forget that your year long relationship might not have been real.

You cried into your pillows till the moment there were no more tears left and your heartache found its company in your headache. You gave into your sweet slumber, hoping for this all to be just a bad nightmare.

But it wasn't.

Weeks has passed and you were still hurt. You caught his eyes wondering over to you, making each and every look feel like another stab into your chest. As if he was mocking you. As if he wanted to see that you were hurting enough.

Remus wasn't that kind of a person. But then did you actually know him? Breaking up with you seemed to be one of the easiest things he has ever done. The heavy weight of your unrequited love and the sight of your clearly unaffected ex-boyfriend fuelled your sadness.

As you walked out to the Black lake on a cloudy, dark afternoon, you saw Remus talking to his friends, almost as if they were having an argument. Remus was heavily gesturing, like he was trying to deny something, while James and Sirius seemed agitated.

You walked closer to the group of friends, hiding behind a large oak tree. You have stood just a couple of meters away, close enough to be able to hear their conversation.

"Moony, you have to stop this. You are hurting both of you." Sirius said as he threw his arms in the air dramatically.

"I can't, Padfoot. I can't let Y/N get any closer to me." He tried to argue with his friend, making you frown as you realised you were part of the subject of their conversation.

"But you can! We stayed by your side all along. We didn't leave you. Why is it so hard to believe that people who love you would stay by your side?" James argued this time, trying to convince Remus, but he just shook his head in denial.

"It's not just that, Prongs. It would kill me if I ever hurt Y/N. It kills me to even think about it. I can't let that happen and the most logical way is to keep myself away." He explained firmly.

"Logical? You are not being logical at all, Moony. Y/N is a smart person, who loves you to bits. I can't imagine anyone else being more accepting, more loving. You would just need to explain things clearly. You need to communicate instead of making decision on your own. Stupid decision to stay the least." Sirius attempted to argue with his friend's reasoning.

"I can't." He replied simply.

"I give up." Sirius stepped back abruptly, turning to the tree you were hiding behind. Your eyes widened. So did his, before a huge grin appeared across his face and gave you a cheeky wink. "Let me ask you something. Do you love Y/N?"

"Of course, I do. How many times do I have to tell you how much? Do you think I would have ended things if I didn't care?" He frowned, raising his voice, clearly agitated. You felt your heartbeat quicken, hope filling you up once again.

"Do you miss her?" Sirius continued.

"Please, don't make this any more difficult than it already is." He begged his friend almost as if he was in pain.

"Do you?" He didn't plan on giving up though.

"What do you think? I don't think I have loved anyone else so strongly before." He heaved a deep sigh, shaking his head. "Can we just change subject? I really don't want to talk about this."

"Then Y/N has the right to know that you are werewolf." He shrugged as if he was concluding the conversation. Your eyes widened in surprise, your lips parted involuntarily. You stepped out of your hiding, staring at the love of your life in shock.

"Y/N..." Remus exclaimed, a terrified expression across his face.

"Did you hear all of that?" Sirius asked and you nodded in reply.

"Sirius, what have you done?" Remus whispered weakly, his eyes not even leaving you for a second.

"I made sure that Y/N had a say in your decision too. You can hate me and you can even curse me for revealing your secret, but breaking up over something that you didn't even try to explain, is plain dumb. You didn't even give Y/N a chance to understand or to make a decision by leaving you or staying by your side." He shrugged casually.

You were shocked to say the least. It was definitely hard to process, but in no way it affected the fact that he loved you and you loved him. Sirius was right. He should have shared this with you and let you decide whether you wanted to stay by his side or leave him for good. You had every right to know, especially after you heard how much he loved you.  

"So... you are... a werewolf?" You spoke hesitantly, questioningly. He heaved a deep sigh and hid his face behind his palms. "I am not saying I'm not surprised. I am still processing. But I had the right to know." You explained, waiting for him to reply.

"Maybe. I guess. But even if I told you, it wouldn't change the fact that I am afraid of hurting you. I can't be close to you." He shook his head, letting his arms drop.

"Actually, it would change a lot. I think I can make a decision on wanting to be with you or not even if you have a furry little problem. My feelings didn't change. I still love you, Remus." You replied firmly.

"Even if you wanted to be with me, despite all that you have just heard, I would still be scared of hurting you. I wouldn't want to risk that." He raised his voice to get his opinion across to you.

"But you said it yourself. You still love me." You tried to argue with him.

"But I don't want to be with you." He spoke firmly, making your heart skip a beat, your breath hitch in surprise. It has never occurred to you. He was right. He might have loved you, but that didn't mean he wanted to be with you. You couldn't begin to describe how silly you felt for having your hopes up.

"Oh..." You swallowed hard, feeling the tears collecting in your eyes.

"That's not what I..." He started, but you cut him off.

"No, no... I understand. I guess I just didn't think this through." You scratched the back of your neck awkwardly with a painful smile. It hurt bad. You thought being dumped was painful, but feeling rejected and being told he didn't need you for a second time, sent you over the edge.

"Y/N..." He called out for you, almost whispering your name painfully as he stepped closer. However you backed away. You didn't need him to comfort you. The last thing you needed is to feel him anywhere near you.

"It's fine, Remus. Really." You smiled at him, trying to force it as hard as you could to make him feel better. "It's fine." You said as you turned around and hurried back to the castle.

"You are officially an idiot." James exclaimed shaking his head.

You were almost running through the corridors, trying to keep your tears at bay until you were out of sight finally. You hid behind a portrait, a hole in the wall, which Remus showed you a couple of months back, letting your tears run across your face endlessly.

You held your fist in front of your chest, clenched tightly, your knuckles turning white as if it was helping your pain to go away. But it didn't. Your breathing was uneven, your lips dry, your face deformed. Your pain couldn't have been more obvious. You threw your head backwards, letting it harshly collide with the cold wall behind you. The pain was nothing compared to the lump, the suffocating feeling in your throat.

A flash of light blinded you for a second as you saw the portrait door open. Remus stepped inside, closing it behind himself.

"Remus, I really need to be alone right now." You spoke weakly, trying to remove the tear stains from your cheek.

"I'm sorry." He spoke, crouching down in front of you, placing one of his hands on your cheek gently. "I am so sorry, Y/N. I am so so sorry." He kept repeating himself, making you feel indescribably confused.

"I don't understand." You furrowed your brows, waiting for a reply.

"Of course, I want to be with you. That's not what I meant out there." He sighed deeply, caressing your cheek with his thumb. "When I broke up with you, it was the hardest moment of my life."

"Sure didn't seem like it." You scoffed rudely and even you were surprised at your behaviour.

"I know. I tried to hide it. I thought if I left you and stayed away from you, it would solve everything. You don't understand how hard it was for me to see you suffer each and every day. I wanted to walk up to you and just wrap my arms around you to tell you that it will all be fine. I am really sorry for hurting you." His gentle tone, his apologies, his guilty look made you want to engulf him in a hug, but you stopped yourself. You were too hurt.

"I thought I wasn't good enough. I thought maybe you never loved me." You admitted shyly.

"What? No! Don't even think about such silly things. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me." He spoke in a panicking tone.

"What do you expect me to say?" You asked, unsure. He didn't want to be with you, but he wanted to be with you. He didn't want to hurt you, but here he was telling you how important you have been to him. You were utterly confused and beyond unsure of everything.

"I..." He stoped to think for a second. "I want to be with you. I want to kiss you, I want to hug you, I want to talk to you. I need you." He spoke softly, getting hold of your hands.

"Aren't you afraid of hurting me anymore?" You asked, not wanting him to back away in the future with the same stupid reason.

"I am. I am terrified even thinking about it. But I have the dumbest friends and I am the dumbest of them all. I guess they made me realise that I needed you more than I dared to admit." He confessed.

"I love you Remus. I really do, but how do I know that you won't just stand up with another stupid excuse and walk away?" You asked painfully, thinking through every possible options.

"My secret is out there. If you accept me like this, I have no reason to walk away." He squeezed your hands gently as if he tried to reassure you that he was there for you.

"We will have to talk about this. You will have to explain everything to me. My knowledge on werewolfs is not really broad." You smiled softly.

"Does that mean you are giving me a second chance?" He asked, eyes holding nothing but hope. You heaved a deep sigh before opening your lips to talk.

"You will need to work on getting my trust back. You really hurt me, you know?" You warned him even though you knew you would be back in his arms in no time. "You didn't let me make a decision on my own. You should know me by now, still you didn't even consider that I might have wanted to be with you whether you are a werwolf or not. You left me thinking you didn't want to be with me, that you didn't love me anymore. I thought it was all my fault. Seeing you every single day was as painful as it can get." You tried to make him understand how deeply his decision affected you.

"I am really sorry. I thought getting over the pain of break up was better than if I ever physically hurt you. I thought I made the right decision when I did it." He tried to explain it to you, but it didn't work on you anymore.

"Clearly didn't." You spoke harshly.

"I'm sorry, Y/N..." He sighed deeply. "Would you give me another chance, please?" He asked with a guilty expression across his face and you finally let your hard exterior go.

"You know... maybe if you kissed me, that would help me decide." You smiled playfully, which earned a heartfelt laughter from him. He leaned closer to you and attached his lips to yours, placing his hand behind your neck, keeping you impossibly close to him. He was a little rough, maybe more passionate than ever, but you didn't mind. You felt his feelings, his reassurance coming through to you and you knew he would do anything to keep you by his side at this point. As you parted he hinted a small peck on your lips before looking into your eyes.

"Did that convince you?" He asked with a raised brow. His smile grew wider as you giggled at his question.

"Maybe you need to try again. I am not quite certain just yet." You smirked, which made him shook his head, but soon his lips were on yours once again, kissing you just as lovingly as before. If not more.

Iv’e just finished reading we can be heroes and I can’t believe nobody is talking about it? It’s so good? Do you have a favourite happy moment and favourite angsty moment from it? Did you have the plot worked out from the start? I love Jily but I was never a Wolfstar shopper and I loved both couples in this.

Favourite happy moments? Lots - when Lily is flirting with James and then the Marauders share their animagi secrets? Wolfstar first kiss? When Jily discover their matching Patroni? Jily proposal? The Weddings? The ending?? I have lots. 

Favourite angst? Ugh! Well, the time Jily are caught by Death-Eaters? The Wolfstar breakup conversation? The Reg thing? The Imperius thing with Remus? The part with Sirius leaving Grimmauld? The Jily fight? I have lots.

I only had some of the plot worked out, not most of it, hard to imagine now. I’m very very glad you liked it. Come off anon and we can talk about it here????

Probably literally no one wants to read this, but on the off chance anyone wants to CHOOSE to read my thoughts on fanworks in relation to traditional western culture and not merely be subjected to them via DM during an innocent (though angsty as all hell) convo on the parallels between Stucky and Destiel well, here’s 1700 words on it:

Actually. And here’s the thing that works so damn well with both bucky/Steve and Dean/Cas is that there is no clear “damsel/hero” dichotomy that we see in classic heteronormative relationships.

But like.

The thing about fan fiction, and AO3 specifically, is that it primarily features homoerotic and homoromatic relationships between two cisgender white men. Yes that is changing- mostly thanks to the rise of KPOP (the surprise lord and savior of 2020) and Hulu and Netflix optioning East Asian movies and television series to spread those narratives. Which is an entire thing on its own because so many of those like- is it Untamed? Feature homosocial environments and thus- the point is. The landscape is changing and yay.

But AO3s success is largely predicated on two main ships: Stucky and Destiel. Yes there are others that are huge and continue to grow, but these are the two that I feel (with no data or research to support my assertion) helped AO3 take precedence over ffnet as THE site for fan work hosting.

Now, the contradictory thing about fan work, the thing that is so often described as hypocritical and/or fetishizing is that the majority feature two cisgender white men engaged in homoerotic and/or homoromantic relationships when the majority of the readers and creators of fan works are neither.

Data supports the supposition that most fan work creators and consumers identify as non-male. And in that subset the majority identify as female.

Simply based on generic population data, the correlation can be made (again no effort put into googling this because I have sewing to do) that the majority of this group is likely cisgendered heterosexual (white) women.

However, fan works and fan engagement are a proven community for fans who do not ascribe to the heteronormative gender binary or heterosexual and/or heteroromantic relationship structure and are, in fact, not just white. Again- imagine numbers that are factual because sewing.

Fandom is not unique to entertainment media. We can trace it back to, well, as long as we can trace it back. What are the Venus of Willendorf statues of not fanart? The Parthenon? Egyptian funereal pyramids and their contents? Renaissance art in general? Is the King James Bible not a “fix it” for the previously canonical literature (that’s a hot take don’t come for me.) (you could also consider the King James Version an attempt at song fic).

In more contemporary culture, we have sports fandoms- primarily male dominated. Primarily cisgendered heterosexual white male dominated.

The fandom culture of sports fans has been described as that of collectors and curators- they want memorabilia and statistics and gatekeeping actions often require proof of knowledge or commitment via possessions.

Meanwhile, entertainment media fandoms- such as those experiences on AO3- are more creative than curatorial. Instead of efforts to organize, delineate and create hierarchies within fandoms (yes this happens but is not the overriding force), these sorts of fandoms seek to create fanWORKS and fanCOMMUNITIES. Yes, fantasy sports leagues exist and so do sports teams fan communities. But I ask you, where in sports fandoms is there a GISH?Or an AO3?

The reality of contemporary western dominated culture (entertainment,sports,economic,political, artistic and philosophical) is one that features white cisgendered heterosexual men at the apex-

Both as creators and consumers despite prevailing realities in population and cultural zeitgeist.

As such, most western dominated fandoms are homosocial: dominated by one group, that of white cisgendered heterosexual men.

All that is to say, most star athletes are straight white dudes. Most movie stars are straight white dudes. Most politicians. Most wealth holders and distributors. Most creators.

Why? Because patriarchy. But the WHY isn’t the point of this long ass word vomit.

It’s the So What?

Sports fandoms are the territory of these same homosocial networks.

But media fandoms are the territory of those NOT at the top of that hierarchy.

While the CONTENT and the original content creators remain part of that homosocial white cisgendered heterosexual group, the consumers of media are largely NOT OF THAT GROUP despite what the content creators may desire or believe (see: the creatives behind supernatural and their ridiculous ability to convince themselves that their core demographic are straight white dudes 15-40).

As such, content that features the patriarchy is primarily heterosexual, heteronormative, racist (acutely or passively), misogynistic, homophobic, homosocial and, well, lacking.

Take, for example, MCU and Supernatural as franchises. Our main characters are primarily white dudes. White dudes who mostly interact with other white dudes, whose “tribes” (brethren, compatriots, coworkers) are also white dudes. Yes, smurfs exist- the token woman or non-white person. Sometimes even a queer person (gender or sexual, though very, very rarely gender queer).

The fact that whenever our “heroes” interact with anyone outside their tribe or homosocial group they are almost inevitably evil, dead or about to die is telling. How many women die in supernatural? How many people of color? How many villains in the MCU (and while the X-MEN franchise isn’t necessarily within the MCU because Hollywood, the queer coding within X-MEN is encyclopedic) are queer coded?

Now, I’ve said repeatedly that heterosexual and heteronormative relationships are the mean within such media. Our white dudes bang white ladies, love white ladies, but act like manly white men and don’t put romantic feelings ahead of things like patriotism and pain unless they have “earned” the right to such (a trial that often involves a lot of deaths that are never addressed or given recourse. See:endgame)

Bros before hoes is more or less the rule of western mainstream media.

As such, relationships that demonstrate respect, trust, vulnerability, compassion and resiliency are almost always homosocial: or they are between two bros (no homo) and not between a man and a woman.

You trust the guy at your back, not the woman because you 1. Want to bang her 2. She’s probably going to die 3. She’s a damsel 4. Seriously she’s probably going to die.

Which all means: most of the well developed characters and relationships within mainstream western media are homosocial- they exist between two members of the same group. In our case, those straight white bros (which of course within supernatural can sometimes be taken literally in the case of Wincest).

Which means, the consumers of this media- mostly not white straight cisgendered dudes- are left with content that doesn’t represent who they are or what they want or even can aspire to.

So what’s the solution? Collect data and memorabilia? Sure why not.

OR: use your beloved media, those well developed characters and relationships, to create something new.

Fan work.

We circle back, at last, to the idea that fan work creators and consumers can be hypocritical or contradictory by creating works that feature that which they are not- these white dudes in love (romantic, sexual) with each other.

This supposition suggests that creators and consumers are using the characters and situations in fan work as replacements for what they lack in heterosocial relationships- either in media or in their own lives. Or, put another way, fans replace either Bucky or Steve with themselves and image the other to be their “love” interest.

To an extent, this may be true. That both parties are usually written to have male genitalia while most fans do not is where so many of the hypocritical and fetishization issues come into play.

But the reality is, fans are working with what they are given. Most fans don’t have dicks. A generous portion of fans don’t want to engage with dicks is sexual ways (or engage in sex at all) (and it must be emphasized that the majority of works on AO3 are rated T not E).

But the value in reimagining, subtextualizing, or deconstructing the mostly platonically presented homosocial relationships in western media as homosexual or homoerotic or homoromantic is not (for the most part) about fetish or about placeholders and substitutions for the fan.

It is about creating fanwork that reflects the society a fan lives in or wishes to live in.

Just as the sports fan will go to a bar and paint themselves blue and deride the Yankees because they want to envision a society that upholds a white cisgendered male patriarchy, media fanWORKS are created because we do NOT have a society that values romantic or erotic relationships between equals (for in traditional western society the only equal to a white cisgendered man is another white dude).

So, at last, a return to Stucky and Destiel.

The relationships created in fanWORKS between these two aren’t simply those where one is the “‘man” in the relationship and the other is the “woman”.

Yes those fanWORKS exist.

But most utilize the strong bonds of trust and respect and vulnerability and dare I say shared experience to create romantic and erotic relationships that are both more complex and more realistic than those actually portrayed in the same media.

In Stucky, we see Steve save Bucky and Bucky save Steve. We see Bucky hurt Steve and Steve hurt Bucky. We see their positions as EQUALS as a means by which to create a world where fulfilling relationships can exist that do not automatically restrict one (or more) parties to that of “chattel”.

The same is true of Destiel.

And both relationships feature key similarities within the original media that make for such rich possibilities.

Castiel saves Dean from hell. Castiel is brainwashed by the patriarchy to view Dean as lesser and even to kill him (this happens multiple times).

While Steve saves Bucky from Azzano, it is Bucky who saved Steve for almost their entire lives before that point. And after that point the two go back and forth to save each other. And let us not forget that Bucky was ordered to kill Steve but “he knew me”.

Dean and Castiel go through a similar ping pong match of saving each other.

This isn’t just about being equal in strength- it’s about being equal in vulnerability.

Which, to belabor the point, doesn’t exist in mainstream media’s romantic or erotic relationships nor is it widely taught or reinforced in western culture as a whole.

In conclusion.

Stucky and Destiel can save the world.

But probably KPOP would do it better and faster and cooler.

G7.    an au where the four spencers work at a restaurant or café. this can be flexible in terms of being in competition with your muse’s place or your muse being a customer / working with them (either with your muse as the owner or working under the spencer business). for the positions themselves, raleigh & liz would be the co-owners/manager as they split tasks (raleigh with employees while liz with accounting, ie), though liz could also serve as a bartender, then jamie as a chef/barista, and maddie as a hostess/server/barista.

E3.    for any of her older verses, then she could be a CEO, politician (senate), or a professor for a uni with engineering. E4.    for her becoming a celebrity, then a musician similar to... yeah. so country to indie pop & has a reputation similar to her modern. maddie probably writes the lyrics for liz though. i just can’t see liz getting into acting rip, though she could produce. E5.    horses. neigh. that’s all. but even an au where she runs ellesmere or has a horse pasture herself... with her own winery. E6.    mostly likely for slow burns & rivals / enemies to lovers, for anything romantic. also the most likely to have one night stands or just ghost your muse. J0. his name is benjamin james spencer, & his nickname was benny but now is ben (because i love you charlie) J1.    most likely to go into acting once his football career vanished.  J2.    most likely to be a firefight too, especially if his cousin nick had more inspiration with jamie. J3.    most likely to fight your muse if your muse is confrontational & filled with testosterone. so someone fight his ass. OH, could even be a boxing au if jamie is like, forgetting about his own physical health. but this easily fits in modern if you muse ever ticks jamie off. J4.    so jamie is actually the biggest animal out of the four, so him going to animal shelters or horses or dealing with his cat or your muses’ pets. would definitely get his softer side here. could even be him running ellesmere. J5.    BODYGUARD AU. J6.    also the most likely to fall into the fake dating trope. can have one night stands as well, but doesn’t like them as much anymore. J7.    your muse being someone that jamie felt he wronged in his younger years, such as being a jerk in college or having puked on your muse then blaming them for it, you know, his darker period. and, now, he’s reconnecting in order to apologize about the things he’s done wrong. could go swell or angsty. MADDIE

M1.    her being a known bassist / rock star with her band & has that celebrity status within the alternative / rock / metal genres. but she could also be part of your muse’s band or genre sphere. M2.    most likely to be in college with your muse, where maddie lives in a dorm instead with liz or have classes together... though likely to skip those classes. M3.    most likely to be a tattoo artist or running a flowershop. M4.    is the one that likes being around artists, being an artist herself.  M5.    mostly likely be a waitress or bartend, practically when she doesn’t go to college. M6.    being part of her cousin’s motorcycle gang. I read several HP and FB fanfics during the last few months, and in order to sum up my favourite ones, here is this post. It’s entirely and obviously personal, and to be honest, it’s more something which is more supposed to help me than recommanding something to you

But I truly think those fanfictions are great, so if you didn’t already read them, you may enjoy them!

Put Your Guns Away, it’s Tea Time (52k) and Put Your Curse in Reverse (276k) (from the It’s Tea Time serie), written by ellizablue :

A very lovely, funny and well-written story which follows Albus Severus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy, Harry and Ginny Potter, the rest of the Potter-Weasley family and all of the surrounding people after the events of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

It’s technically canon-compliant - the author created an amazing story based on HPCC - and did it so well! I admit I was a bit disappointed about HPCC when it had been published, but It’s Tea Time “fixed” all of the things I was confused about.

Albus’ and Scorpius’ relationship is adorable, both of them are interesting characters. Harry and Ginny are amiable and attentive parents, they protect people they love. James Sirius and Lily Luna are also great - and to be honest, all of the characters are refreshing, complex, ect. I could talk about it throughout countless of pages. So many themes are brilliantly treated. I still didn’t read the third opus of the series!

(if I should recommand one only series of HP fanfictions, I would recommand this one)

Several fanfictions written by meanwhiletimely :

Illumine (10k) :

In Prague in 1914, Albus Dumbledore goes to a Gellert Grindelwald’s brillant speech. The political discussion between Albus and Henry Potter, how Gellert is able to enthrall a breathless crowed, Gellert’s and Albus’ very special and intense relationship, the wonderful Christian imagery and parallels, the description of the surrounding world and the ambiance, Gellert’s speech... It is quite marvellous, well-written and perfectly bitter-sweet - more bitter than sweet though. Eventual smut, very good, but imo, it cannot be considered as the very heart of the text, even though the sexual tension is omnipresent. I can't help but read it oftenly, and everytime I'm amazed - it might be my favourite GGAD fanfiction in fact. Brilliant.

Extreme Incantations (10k) :

In order to find clues about the Elder Wand story, Albus and Gellert try a “decadent, degenerate, deranged” ritual. A lot of smut, but again, their relationship and their psychology are absolutely central. I loved how they are portrayed, loved to discover Gellert’s thoughts and point of view. Again, it’s brilliantly bitter-sweet - even quite heartbreaking. Like Illumine, I have so much more to say, but I’ll stop here and just say: if you are interested by Summer of 1899 fanfictions, you could be delighted to discover it.

The Seer in the Tower (2k5) and Collateral (3k) are as great as Illumine and Extreme Incantations. In the first one, Tom Riddle meets Gellert Grindelwald after 1945 ; in the second one, Gellert and Ariana talk thanks the Resurection Stone. Light Bringer (10k), which sums up the Summer of 1899, is also amazing - incredibly painful, hopeless and horrendous, and Gellert Grindelwald is definitely not a good person - but still amazing.

Thirty-Five Owls (11k) by Letterblade :

After 1945, Albus and Gellert sent letters to each other - and I will add nothing more about the plot. A quite famous fanfiction - published in 2008 - and rightfully recognised as a brillant one. Beautifully written, the tag "Everything Hurts" is accurate, constantly breathtaking. I loved more than everything else the end - overwhelming, and yet so simple. Even canon-compliant, what more could we ask? In a nutshell, an unmissable work.

White (2k) (M) by Vandrerska :

“The story Gellert Grindelwald would tell if somebody took the trouble to ask.”, or a magnificiently well-written 1st person POV fic with Gellert talking about Albus and 1899. Here is the same vibe we already have in Thirty-Five Owls, but with the benefit of a heart-to-heart conversation between Gellert and the reader directly. Needless to say that both of the hearts involved in the conversation are broken. I love how it is written (but it is no surprise, well-crafted angsty texts like this one own my heart). 

nobody else but me (5k) by Roflskate :

After meeting Percival Graves and starting a correspondence with the very head of MACUSA's Department of Law Enforcement in 1926, Albus Dumbledore thinks he's finally ready to move on from Gellert Grindelwald. Well, if you saw Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, you know he's not.

I'm fond of the plot: the way we, as readers, already know how that story is doomed to end, is the very heart of the text - and speaking of the end, I loved it - just like Thirty-Five Owls, simple and heartrending. Again, bitterness is back. Beware of the manipulation and the very questionable consent, it's literally the plot.

(btw, this work inspired this post: GG as Hogwarts teacher/librarian before FBaWtFT: where are the fanfics? (if someone wants to write it please i will be pretty happy))

(In every bloody fanfiction I recommend Albus is suffering, sorry about that) (and it's not going to end with the next fanfic) (suffering is inherent to the character though so)

The Trial of Albus Dumbledore (51k) by Aurora_xx :

In this post-FBCoG AU, Albus Dumbledore is questioned about his relations with Gellert Grindelwald. But before his trial, he unknowingly took Veritaserum. To be honest, I felt it first as a “satisfying” AU: people we don’t like became a bit ridiculous, people we like get through (well, mostly).

Nonetheless, it’s more than that: the trial scene is incredibly tense, the consequences are terrible, and we want to see what's going to happen next. Moreover, the character development is suprisingly remarkably well-done - Vinda Rosier has an amazing backstory, for example; Newt and Newt’s friends are also very likeable, complex, etc. We love to hate Travers, Grindelwald is a character we eventually support (for specific reasons, mostly because he’s powerful, self-confident, rather hilarious and badass, but also a bit more human than we could think). And all we want to do is taking care of Albus.

It’s definitely a really pleasant fanfiction - but not an “easy” one, there are a lot of hard themes and very tense scenes, etc. This story is still considered as a WIP, though the five first chapters are already enough. 

Three fics of mautadite :

A Metaphor for Change (1k) (M) : I will just rewrite the summary here, so: "Five things Albus could not bring himself to say to Gellert. (One of them is a lie.)”. I really liked it, it is angsty - but the sweetest way, the very sad way.

To Be Great (0.3k) (G) : What Albus and the Sorting Hat said when Albus put the Hat on his head for the first time. Really a relevant and sharp character study. Again, I felt a hint of a sweet kind of angst. I wonder if I am the only one, you tell me.

Love Letters (6k) (E) : Scenes of Gellert’s and Albus’ life from 1995 to 1899 - often conversations, so say hello to well-crafted relationships between mc and other characters. Here comes the angst again (I think the author writes Albus and Gellert that way - or maybe, the characters are meant to be suffused by angsty undertones). The fact that we go back in time hurts a lot, because every smile they have are perverted by our knowledge of what happens next - the happiness won’t last, and really, it hurts. Canon compliant.

L’Indiscible (190k) by Neaniver279

This one is a French one! Deux ans après la fin de la guerre, Percy Weasley - profondément meurtri par la mort de Fred, de laquelle il s’estime responsable - est renvoyé par une mystérieuse potion au 25 décembre 1975. Plusieurs élèves de Poudlard attirent son attention et son affection, voire un en particulier, Sirius Black.

Un pairing très inhabituel qui fonctionne bien ; un Percy Weasley passionnant - faillible, perdu dans ses doutes et sa culpabilité, mais avec une répartie, une malice et une sensibilité hors du commun ; des Maraudeurs et des jumeaux Weasley attachants, avec une personnalité définie et nuancée ; une idée originale géniale, car si le voyage dans le temps ouvre des portes à une nouvelle palette de réflexions et d’expériences pour Percy, il permet aussi d’intégrer un mystère et de la tension autour de la potion, l’Indiscible.

Pas d’underage, mais une relation prof-élève tout de même - tout du moins, pendant un segment de l’histoire. Intéressante, touchante, très drôle, amère, complexe et pathétique. WIP.
