Here is a list of every Buffy character who appears in, or is mentioned by name in, at least one episode of every season.
These are the characters that, you might assume, are the most important over the course of the whole show. The ones that the writers cared about most and refused to stop caring about. The ones that did the most to shape who Buffy Anne Summers herself would become as a person. Put simply: the main characters of the show.
Each of them appears in the first season and also appears (in one case, as a post-death vision) in the last.
Just for fun I've added (in parenthesis) the number of episodes each of them actually appears in. Can you spot the odd one out?
Buffy Summers (144) Willow Rosenberg (144) Xander Harris (143) Rupert Giles (126) Joyce Summers (58) Angel (58) Amy Madison (8)
That's right, Xander Harris is the obvious odd one out.
All the others appeared in an even number of episodes, but -- because he doesn't appear in Season 7's Conversations With Dead People -- Xander only appears in 143 of the show's 144 total episodes. Thus making him, quite literally, the odd ...
... okay, okay, obviously it's Amy.
Amy Madison appears in one -- and only one -- episode of each of Seasons 1, 2, 3, 4 and 7 and in three episodes of Season 6. She doesn't appear in Season 5 at all but Willow does mention her, by name, in Season 5's Triangle.
Other characters introduced in Season 1 who appear in or are mentioned by name in most of the show's remaining seasons include
Cordelia Chase (who is in 54 episodes over three seasons starting from Welcome to the Hellmouth, plus 88 more in the Angel spin-off; but is not mentioned by name in Season 6 or Season 7 [although there's a brief flashback via archive footage in Season 7's Him that I don't think should count]),
Principal Snyder (18 episodes over just three continuous seasons starting with The Puppet Show (and a posthumous appearance in Season 4's Restless), mentioned by name in every following season except Season 5)
Harmony Kendall (14 episodes over five continuous seasons, starting with Season 1's The Harvest, plus a dream appearance in Restless and 18 more episodes in Angel; mentioned by name in Season 6 of Buffy but not in Season 7 [unless you count that previously mentioned archive footage in Him but I still don't think you should).
Why and how Amy manages to make it on to this list is genuinely something of a mystery to me. The writers very obviously do not care about her as a character at all, they treat her primarily as a joke or a plot device, they never bother to give her anything resembling a coherent arc or show any sign of treating the various traumatic things that happen to her (months with her body magically stolen by her own mother; years living as a rat; retroactively a magical junkie and somehow the only straight witch in Sunnydale) with any sympathy at all.
And yet, by at least one metric [admittedly a pretty silly and arbirtrary metric] ... the most important recurring characters on Buffy -- the only ones to be mentioned in every single season of the show -- are
Buffy herself;
Buffy's best friend, her college roommate, the woman she shares a house with for the last two seasons of the show, her metaphorical spirit, the girl she was prepared to die for in Season 1, the all-powerful witch who brings her magically back to life when she dies in Season 5;
Buffy's other best friend, her metaphorical heart, somebody who isn't afraid to tell her that she's his hero and inspiration in the dark, the ordinary man who she trusts to protect her last living family member in an apocalypse, the boy who brought her (non-magically) back to life when she died in Season 1;
her Watcher, her metaphorical mind, the mentor who instructs her and guides her and lies to her and ultimately abandons her, the closest thing in the whole world she has to a father, somebody who cares about her so much he is convinced she would be better off without him in her life;
her mother, the person who raised her, the parent whose good opinion she's most afraid of losing, the woman who she spends two years hiding her true nature from, somebody who loves her and fights to protect her and -- ultimately -- accepts her, but isn't quite able to ever truly understand her, the mother whose untimely death marks her own transition into adulthood;
the centuries-old vampire with a soul she falls in love with as a teenager, setting in motion a tragic series of events that will culminate in him losing said soul, forcing her to send him to hell and making it hard for her to ever admit her love for anybody else (plus to him getting his own five-season spin-off show);
and ... a girl she meets in sophmore year for cheerleading tryouts, (which they both fail) and who she will have one single direct conversation with again, five years later, a conversation that comprises a total of twelve syllables ("Hi Buffy." "Hi. How've you been?" "Rat. You?" "Dead." "Oh.")
Whenever people talk about Buffy as if it was meticulously crafted and plotted from the beginning; whenever they insist you can't possibly understand a character until you've seen a flashback episode that aired five years after their first appearance, whenever they make reference to the show's Original Plan in a way that implies any deviation from this plan is something remarkable that needs to be explained, I always think about Amy Madison.
What better evidence do you need in favour of the idea that, in fact, the writers were just making it all up as they went, right from the beginning? What Plan did the writers ever have in mind for Amy? How can all of this possibly have been on purpose?

March 19th, 2025
Hello there, gentle viewers! Welcome back to Buffy Slays, where I’ll be going through all 144 episodes of BtVS over the course of a year, highlighting as many of the GOOD moments, lines, character choices, worldbuilding moments, etc. etc. as I think people will have the patience to read.
So, here we go!
Season 1, Episode 6, “The Pack.”
Tumblr media
A field trip to the zoo turns deadly after Xander and a gang of mean-spirited kids become possessed by hyenas. (Pulled from Hulu.)
If you're reading along and haven't finished the show, consider this your Spoiler Warning for discussion of future episodes and major plot points in any and all of these posts.
Episode Number: #6 Episode Ranking: #141 out of 144. Writer: Matt Kiene
Top 5 Quotes:
“God, this game is brutal. I love it.” —Gym Coach
“It’s devastating. He’s turned into a sixteen-year-old boy. Of course, you’ll have to kill him.” —Giles
“You’re gonna have so much detention, your grandchildren will be staying after school.” —Principal Flutie
“Why couldn’t Xander be possessed by a puppy, or some ducks?” —Willow
“Did I ask you to speak? Okay, I guess I did.” –Principal Flutie
Tumblr media
How “The Pack” Slays:
The way Buffy resists getting bullied. The four bullies come up and start taunting her at the zoo, and she replies with a quip and a smile, not lashing out or acting hurt or stooping to their level. She’s just gracious that way.
Willow and Buffy talking about boys. The episode after this raises the question of whether Buffy should have feelings for Angel, so this is a clever and efficient way to assure us of those feelings even existing, without having to actually have an Angel scene in an episode that isn’t about him.
Flutie and the pig. The scene where the pig is running through the halls in a silly little mascot costume, and Buffy picks him up. The pig likes Buffy much better than Flutie, so Flutie asks her to come with him to put the pig back in its cage. And Flutie is going on and on about school spirit to her, in a way that’s… kind of nice, like he’s bonding with her. And she looks adorable holding this not-at-all-scary pig, a pig she thinks is very cute. It’s a fun scene, and introduces the “Buffy likes pigs” lore, as well as showing us that Flutie is on Buffy’s side… finally.
The dodgeball scene. The coach and his deadpan, sinister attitude is such a funny detail to have for two minutes of screen time. The fact that it’s a silent scene except for balls bouncing and kids running is so great, as the bullies pick off everyone weaker than them… which includes everyone except for Buffy. It includes Lance, the kid they were bullying in the beginning, who is on their own team. There’s like… this kind of quiet horror to this scene, but I love that the bullies at their most animalistic recognize Buffy as a predator that they don’t want to mess with. And she swoops in and saves Lance, the prey.
Xander solving his math problems by throwing the textbook away. He’s possessed at the time, and this is meant to showcase part of his cruel, animal nature, but uhhh as someone who NEVER had a smooth time in math I identify heavily with this moment. Even him lashing out at Willow is relatable, because he wasn’t yelling at her so much as himself and his inability to understand something that made sense a week ago.
Xander has friends outside of Buffy and Willow. When he and the bullies are possessed, they walk up to a table to steal the lunches of some people who I think are meant to be in the nerd/loser category. But one of them immediately asks Xander’s opinion on something, and doesn’t address the other four, so I love to think that Xander gets along with others on the bottom rung like he is. Lance probably falls into that category, too.
Xander does not actually rape Buffy, nor does he get near it. She tackles him first, and after he pins her down, she throws him off, telling him she doesn’t want to hurt him. He throws her against the wall, suckles her neck, and says some gross stuff, but the next scene is her dragging an unconscious Xander towards the library, claiming she hit him with a desk. We know she’s stronger than him, and even if he’d gone further than he did, she would have been able to stop him. As it is, she’s not afraid to hit him with an extremely heavy object, and hurt him if it’s to protect herself. At no point does she seem bothered by his actions, either, she tells Willow he “tried,” not that he actually succeeded, and she attributes his non-traditional wooing to the fact that there’s a hyena spirit in him right now.
When Buffy throws the zookeeper into the hyena pit, she makes it clear that this was an accident by running after him, an obvious attempt to save him, and looks shaken that she isn’t able to do so. And this is an always-present characterization of her. She will fight humans who are hurting people, or doing something violent or stupid. And if they die, she doesn’t beat herself up over it. But she never LETS them die without trying to save them, and she never intentionally deals the killing blow.
The final shot in this episode, after Xander claims to not remember anything and Giles tells him he’ll keep his secret, is Xander walking away, looking downcast. He does feel remorse, and trauma, and guilt for all of this. He may not have had to own up to what he did, but he’s being punished for it all the same.
Tumblr media
Xander Harris Is A Bro:
It’s important, in this episode, to remember Xander’s good moments. First up being his and Willow’s excitement at going to the zoo, seeing zebras mating, happy to be on a field trip together, even though Buffy is bored with the whole thing and off wandering by herself.
He saves Lance from the hyena fate. Watches him get dragged off by the bully group, and follows to stand up for him. He succeeds, which works out for everybody, because Buffy and Willow are close enough to notice something is wrong with Xander, and therefore the rest of the group, whereas probably no one would have noticed if something was wrong with Lance, and they would have all succumbed to the possession.
As soon as the hyena is pulled out of Xander, he sees the zookeeper trying to kill Willow, and jumps to her defense. Buffy is also fighting for her life at the moment, but Willow is Xander’s priority.
He hugs Willow in the very end scene. He claims he doesn’t remember what happened, but gives Willow a big squeeze, apologizing the only way he’s able, impressing upon her that she is so very important to him, no matter what the demon in him told her.
Tumblr media
The Demon Talking:
This is a tough episode to watch, and obviously Xander’s behavior is so disturbing that it turned many people off his character, in a way that he was never able to recover from in their opinions. Spike had the same problem in late S6, but by then at least he’d had multiple episodes building up what a great guy he was, so those of us who loved him could go on loving him. Especially with the season that came after. I’ll get to that when we get there.
But for now, I need to highlight why this episode does not ruin Xander’s character, and why Buffy and Willow can forgive him and move on, not even making him own up to what he did, not feeling in any way triggered or traumatized or differently about him in episodes to come. Willow continues to want him, and Buffy continues to let him have his unspoken crush until he finally asks her out, and she turns him down.
This show talks a lot about demons, of course, but there are so many different ways that demonic energies are shown. There are people turning into demons, there are people getting aspects of a demon, or becoming half-demon, or all sorts of variables. But there is also demonic possession. And a possession is always going to be a violation. A rape of body and mind.
Xander in this episode is possessed by a demonic spirit; the wording is very clear here, and that makes him a victim. He is only possessed by said spirit because he is defending someone from being tormented by bullies. His assault on Buffy is intermingled with the scene of the other four eating Principal Flutie, highlighting that this is something none of them would have done in their right minds. His first act after being cured is to leap into the fray to save Willow. And he does ask his friends after the fact what he did to them. He may be lying about not remembering, but he does give them the chance to call him out, and make him apologize. It is not the smartest or bravest way out, maybe, but we need to allow for the fact that he is traumatized by this. He doesn’t want to think about the cruel words he spat in Willow’s face, or what he tried to do to Buffy, or the fact that he ate a pig raw and was just all around a total jerk for the past couple days. So he buries it, claims ignorance, but still gives them the chance to make him ‘fess up.
And they, I think, know that he remembers. Buffy and Willow share a kind of smirk with each other when he asks, not because he did anything so funny and humiliating that they’re being kind by pretending it didn’t happen. But more because they know he’s hiding as a defense mechanism, and they’re willing to let him have it. They know it wasn’t really him. They read the books and watched the tape and saw the whole ritual go down. They don’t hold any of his actions against him, whether he remembers them or not, and they’re willing to forgive and forget and move on, and not make him suffer any more than he already is.
As for Giles, I think he was doing the same. He doesn’t know the nasty stuff Xander did to the girls, all he knows is that Xander ate a pig, and what Buffy told him about his attitude changing. He lets Xander off the hook as well, for something he doesn’t know about.
All four of them may be at fault for this; all four of them are kind of known for repressing how they actually feel, and hiding behind their various strengths (magic, books, jokes, being the Slayer). But even if they don’t air it out, I think all four of them are on the same page that it wasn’t Xander who did any of those things, but a demonic possession twisting his desires of wanting Buffy and not wanting Willow into something evil and harmful. Which is not something that will change their good opinions of him.

“The spiral in psychology means that when you make a spiral you always come over the same point where you have been before, but never really the same, it is above or below, inside, outside, so it means growth. “ --Dream Analysis, C.G. Jung
Galactic Temple Talon Abraxas
Universe expands/evolves The universe has 12 dimensions but is expanding to 13 and 14 dimensions. The universe is essential a vortex structured on a Fibonnaci spiral such that each dimension has a number of levels of consciousness or awareness given by a Fibonnaci number starting with 1 for the 1st dimension and expanding to 144 at the originating dimension of the Source/Creator. To do this the Fibonnaci spiral must pre-exist to infinity as an archetype. Source is evolving into the 13th dimension and into higher levels of consciousness.
Elohim of the 7th dimension. As a collective, joined with angels and other beings throughout the universe, created this solar system, a new matrix.
3D In ascension one transcends the limitations of the physical body, the cause of death and degradation that is part of the dualistic 3D matrix. This transcendence will be seen as a transference of conscious rather than as a beginning and ending.
From the perspective of the higher dimension we are ascending into the 4th dimension, which is not the astral field, which is not separate from the 3rd dimension. In 3D the body is created from thought form generated in the astral field.
Each dimension has sublevels of awareness based on the Fibonnaci numbers, increasing in number as the dimensions go higher.
Spiral, each square added a dimension, expands levels of consciousness.

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question. Why is it harder for larger countries to have citizens with a high median level of wealth? What makes it harder for a country with the US population vs, say, Japan? I can imagine obvious challenges, but also reasons why larger countries can make their median citizen wealthier more easily. Economies of scale, more chances for innovation that can later be widely adopted, strong institutions having outsized effects. Can you help me understand the logic more?
It's not a stupid question! It's a common but incredibly counterintuitive thing that comes up in statistical comparisons. The short version is: you get more variance with small samples than with large samples.
To start off, let's point out this isn't just theoretical. According to the IMF, the twelve highest GDPs per capita are in this chart:
Tumblr media
(If you use a different source the numbers change somewhat but not dramatically so.)
If you rank countries by population, those are rank 122, 163, 118, 134, 162.5, 95, 99, 115, 3, 191, 169, and 103.5. The US is in position 3 and the next-highest is at 95 (out of about 200).
Conversely let's look at the ten most populous nations:
Tumblr media
When ranked by GDP per capita, those come out at ranks 73, 127, 8, 98, 138, 144, 87, 128, 56, and 71.
And notice already this looks different: these numbers are mostly in like the middle half, whereas the others were almost all in the bottom half. And that makes sense based on the theoretical argument I'm about to make.
A big country has a lot of people in it. And more than that, it has a lot of places in it. And while those places all have a bunch of stuff in common (like being part of the same country), they also have a bunch of things different from each other. So you can think of the per capita GDP of a big country as, like, averaging together the per capita GPDs of all the regions in it. (And then the per capita GDP of a region is a weighted average of the incomes of all the people in it.)
If you look at a city-state like Singapore or Hong Kong, you're "averaging" together one city. And for a small country like Ireland or Luxembourg, you're averaging one city with a small amount of hinterlands. That means that if that one city is unusually lucky, the whole country is rich.
(And if that one city is unusually unlucky, the whole country is poor. The ten least populated countries on the list that have IMF data have GDP per capita ranks of 146, 119, 95, 9, 152, 60, 106, 16, 134, 52, which are all over the map. None of them are at the very bottom, and I assume that's because cities are richer than non-cities, in general. And also maybe a city-state that's also dirt poor gets swallowed up.)
And if you look at our list of richest countries, you can really see this effect. Ireland is a tax haven for the EU, and traditionally so is San Marino. Singapore is a weirdly-managed outlier city state, as is San Marino (and Hong Kong used to be). Qatar and the UAE are all drafting off of oil revenue, and for that matter so is Norway.
And to drive the point home, let's look at the list of US metro areas by per capita GDP.
Tumblr media
San Jose beats every country in the world hollow. San Francisco is tied with the top entries on the list. And our tenth-richest metro area would place fifth on the list of countries by per capita gdp. (Contrast Paris at €60 and Berlin at like €42k, if my quick googling is right.)
And then to drive the point home, look at the top of the list. The richest metro area in the US isn't San Francisco or New York or Los Angeles (which at 18th and $86k doesn't even show up on that list up there, but would still put it at 8th in the world); the richest metro area in the US is some place called Midland TX. It's a small town that sits in the middle of a giant oil field, and as I understand it it's basically a base camp for all the oil work out there. So it has one thing going on, and that thing is super lucrative, and distributed across relatively few people; so it gets the top spot.
And that's why the richest countries are likely to be small.

AJ’s Analysis- Week Two Preview⚡️: Chargers at Panthers
Disclaimer: I am a Chargers fan so this will obviously be biased BUT I have been a football fan for the last 12 years and absolutely love dissecting the game and making comments so I figured I would give this a try! Please feel free to make comments and let me know your thoughts in my inbox!
Players to watch:
Carolina
#9 Bryce Young QB- Alabama- Year 2
Struggled throughout his rookie year last year after winning the Heisman his sophomore year of college. Finished his college career with 8356 passing yards, 80 touchdowns, 12 interceptions and 7 rushing touchdowns, making him the number one pick in last year’s draft. Threw 13/30 for 161 yards and 2 interceptions last week. Looking for redemption in week 2.
#6 Miles Sanders RB- Penn State- Year 6
In his second season with the Panthers after spending the first four with the Eagles, Sanders is looking for his identity in Carolina. His best season was 2022 with the Eagles where they went to the Super Bowl and he had his first 1000 yard rushing season, rushing for 1,269 yards and 11 TDs. Last season Sanders only had 432 rushing yards and 1 touchdown over 16 games. Maybe this will be his redemption season? Hopefully for him it’ll be better than last week’s performance of 5 carries for 22 yards.
#19 Adam Thielen WR- Minnesota State- Year 11
Also in his second season as a Panther, after nine years with the Vikings. Coming off of his third 1000 yard receiving season and has been selected to two pro bowls. Last week he had four targets, for 49 yards so tomorrow could easily be a big day for him.
#17 Xavier Legette WR- South Carolina- Year 1
He’s viral on Twitter (I’m not calling it X ever in my life) for his country accent but the rookie receiver is extremely talented. In 2023 with South Carolina he had 1,255 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. If he and his qb really start to click he could easily take off. His debut numbers last week, 7 targets for 35 yards.
#54 Shaq Thompson LB- Washington- Year 10
Credited for ten tackles last week and nobody else on defense really seemed to have done much because the Saints scored 47 points.
Los Angeles
#10 Justin Herbert QB- Oregon- Year 5🩵
17/26 for 144 passing yards and 1 TD last week which is great that he didn’t have to carry the team and still get a win. Looking for the passing game to open up a bit, more third down conversions and just better overall communication between him and his receivers.
#11 Cameron Dicker Kicker- Texas- Year 3
Perfect Prince. You guys know.
#76 Joe Alt RT- Notre Dame- Year 1
Monster debut. Proved to the people that he was worth the fifth overall pick. Looking for another great game from the rookie!
#3 Derwin James Jr. S- Florida State- Year 7
This man is very special to me. Didn’t include him in the preview last week because I thought it was getting too long but here it is!! He was the highest paid safety in the league last year and for good reason. 2 time first team all pro, 3 time pro bowler had 125 total tackles last season, 2 sacks, 2 fumble recoveries and 1 interception. Like I said, he’s the moment.
#95 Poona Ford DT- Texas- Year 7
Special shoutout to the 5’11, 310 pound defensive tackle that had an interception last week in his Chargers debut. The entire defense was so impressive compared to years past which isn’t saying much because they really couldn’t stop anyone last year especially BUT new year, new defensive coordinator and new attitude.
#27 JK Dobbins RB- Ohio State- Year 5
10 carries for 135 yards and 1 TD last week. The Panthers should be looking to shut him down…Will they?
WR Room
#9 DJ Chark, out. #5 Josh Palmer, hurt. #1 Quentin Johnston, scares me most of the time but last week he didn’t hurt me too badly so I’m gonna be nice. #15 Ladd McCkonkey, sweetie pie with a timely touchdown in his NFL debut. #82 Brenden Rice could very well be making his debut tomorrow with these injuries. Looking for this collective unit to contribute a lot more throughout the season so tomorrow is a big test.
Other notes:
- If the chargers win they’ll be 2-0 for the first time since 2012. Justin was a freshman in high school playing JV then.
- The Carolina Panthers record since 2019 is 24-60, worst in the NFL but they should not be taken lightly. Anyone can lose on any given day.
Happy week 2 and BOLT UP!!!

I have seen a lot of repetitive angel numbers in my life, each appearing in its own time and fulfilling a need for me to understand something: 1111, 111, 222, 333, 444, 4444, 555, 666, 777, 2222, 7777, 177, 117 and 77. However, there is one special and unique repetitive angel number that stands out the most for me and delivers significant and meaningful energy on my journey: the number 144. I feel like the angel number 144 awakens my intuition every time I see it, and it guides me in a way that feels divine. I feel excited every time I learn one of its messages, and each time I feel I am getting closer to its purpose on my journey and path. The messages and/or guidance for me so far associated with the angel number 144 are:
I am a lightworker: I understood this by reading an article about the prophecy of the 144,000 lightworkers. For me, it was a significant confirmation from my Angels that I am a lightworker. I was not sure at the time, I was still questioning myself, but when I started researching the angel number 144 and found the article above, it was a big yes from my Angels and from the Divine that I am a lightworker meant to bring something important through the fulfillment of a specific soul mission of my own.
To receive help from my Angels through someone who is able to communicate with them: During a difficult time, I was guided to get an Angel reading. When I saw that the price of the reading was $144, I felt in my bones that I needed to get this one. I knew it was a sign for me. The reading was helpful, and I was amazed by how the Angels communicated their messages and guidance in a way that made sense only to me. I listened to it last year (4 years after purchasing it) because I felt called to listen to it again, and I was even more in awe of how this reading was meant to be.
A sign from Lady Seraphina that made my connection with the Divine feminine even more dominant: Who is Lady Seraphina? In her book, Claire Stone describes her as 'the mother of all feminine archetypes.' The book mentioned is 'The Female Archangels: Reclaim Your Power with the Lost Teachings of the Divine Feminine.' According to her book, the number 144 is one of her calling cards! This was a message for me that divine feminine energy is highly significant on my path, and that Lady Seraphina is helping me with what I need for the development of divine feminine energy. I believe she's also helping me heal my feminine and masculine energies so I can intuitively understand how these two energies work in union.
An energetic purpose: In the same book, it is said that there are 144 nadis in the human body. Nadis are energetic channels through which energy (life force) flows in the body. What's interesting is that my healing journey started when I felt guided to learn about the chakras, our energy centers in the body. Later, I felt guided to learn and practice emotional freedom technique, an energy healing work for my emotional wounds. I have always felt drawn to learn how energy works. I feel there is something significant about my energy path that I have taken. I don't know yet what it is specifically, but I do feel intuitively that energy is a key component and has a higher purpose in the big picture. Also, seeing that the number 144 is correlated with the energetic system of the body makes me feel that I'm on the right track when it comes to my energy work and learning.
Feeling guided to have an oracle card deck: I have always felt drawn to have an oracle card deck. I felt like it would help me build more connection with my Angels and Spirit team, even though I wasn't sure how to read cards. The deck I felt drawn to pick has an astrological theme, and the accompanying book has 144 pages! It felt like another full yes and sign from my Angels and Guides! Using the deck and the book provided me with the messages I needed at the right time. I also discovered more about myself while trying to interpret the cards and reading the book!
Support, self-discovery and direction about some of my unique talents and gifts that I may posses for fulfilling my life purpose: I recently discover a minor aspect in astrology, the bi-quintile. It's an angle of . . . 144 degrees!! This minor aspect talks about the energy of our unique and special talents, skills, or gifts that we may possess! When I went to do some research on my 144 degrees aspects of my astral chart, I was speechless and felt excited like I have never been with the number 144!! Again, I feel like 144 is really guiding me to discover who I am and giving me huge clues and direction on the path meant to guide me to realize and actualize myself. I feel like 144 is guiding me also to discover my gifts and talents. Actually, my whole healing journey was also about discovering my gifts, talents and purpose! It's about discovering my true self and giving it to the world. 144 is guiding me to find my true self and soul purpose piece by piece. It is all coming together.

🍬 post an unpopular opinion about a popular fandom character
This is kind of about both Christine and Erik, but I think Christine could have become a great singer even without “the Angel of Music” as her teacher. In the Leroux novel, her voice was said to have sounded like “a rusty hinge” before she started receiving lessons from the mysterious voice. Does this mean Erik has some divine power over her voice and he gave her the talent to sing well, and that if she leaves him then all her musical talent will leave as well??
In my opinion, OF COURSE NOT. At the end of the day, Erik does NOT have superpowers and he’s just a normal guy being a normal music teacher giving her lessons in normal opera technique. The only way Erik improved Christine’s voice beyond a technical level was the *idea* that the Angel of Music was teaching her. Ideas and belief are so powerful: we need to believe we can do something in order to actually do it. Since Christine *believed* that she was being trained by a supernatural force, she made “supernatural” progress. If it is true that Christine was not able to sing as well after she leaves with Raoul in the end (I don’t think we know that for sure), then the only reason for that was because the events she lived through in the story were harrowing and emotionally traumatizing for her (which we DO know for sure). She still has the ability and technique to sing well, but her mental and emotional fortitude has been so damaged that she can no longer sing with the same passion behind it.
🦴 Is there a piece of media that inspires your writing?
The fanfic I’m writing now is heavily based on the interpretations of Erik and Christine from the 25th anniversary performance of the ALW musical. Whenever I’m having a hard time writing, I always rewatch it in order to get a refresher on their dynamic. Rereading parts of the original Leroux novel as well as other recordings of the musical help out a lot too!

The Sealed of Israel
1 After (with) these things I saw four angels standing upon the four corners (quarters, angles, latin-angulos-corners root is angle) of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, so that no wind would blow upon the earth, nor upon the sea, nor upon any tree. 2 And I saw another angel, having ascended away from the rising of the sun (the east), having the seal of the living God; and he cried (latin-clamavit-cried possibly like clamored=shout loudly) with a great voice to the four angels to whom had been given them to harm (this word has to do with committing injustice, latin-nocere-hurt) the earth and the sea, 3 Saying, Do not harm the earth, nor the sea, nor the trees, until we shall have sealed the bond-slaves of our God upon their foreheads (latin-frontibus-foreheads, greek-metopon which is meta-ops, ops is eye and meta is with/after thus with or after the eyes). 4 And I heard the number of the ones having been sealed, a hundred forty four thousand (144, 000), having been sealed from out of every tribe (tribe here is feminine) of the sons of Israel;
5 From out of the tribe of Judah, twelve thousand (12, 000) having been sealed; from out of the tribe of Reuben, twelve thousand (12, 000); from out of the tribe of Gad, twelve thousand (12, 000); 6 From out of the tribe of Asher, twelve thousand (12, 000); from out of the tribe of Naphtali, twelve thousand (12, 000); from out of the tribe of Manasseh, twelve thousand (12, 000); 7 From out of the tribe of Simeon, twelve thousand (12, 000); from out of the tribe of Levi, twelve thousand (12, 000); from out of the tribe of Issachar, twelve thousand (12, 000); 8 From out of the tribe of Zebulun, twelve thousand (12, 000); from out of the tribe of Joseph, twelve thousand (12, 000); from out of the tribe of Benjamin, twelve thousand (12, 000) having been sealed.
9 After (with) these things I looked, and behold, a great (much, many) multitude, which no one was able to number it; from out of every ethnicity, and tribes, and peoples, and tongues (glosson), standing in the sight of the throne and in the sight of the Lamb, having been clothed with white robes and palm branches (greek-phoinikes, latin-palmae) in their hands; 10 And crying with a great voice, saying, Salvation to our God sitting upon the throne and to the Lamb! 11 And all the angels stood around the throne, and the elders (latin-seniorum) and the four living creatures, and they fell in the sight of the throne upon their faces and worshipped God, 12 Saying, Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and value (honor) and power and strength to our God unto the ages of the ages! Amen.
13 And one from out of the elders answered, saying to me, These having been clothed with the white robes, who are they? And from where have they come? 14 And I said to him, my lord, you know. And he said to me, These are those coming from out of the great tribulation and they washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 15 Because of this, they are in the sight of the throne of God and serve Him day and night in His temple; and He sitting upon the throne will tabernacle (encamp, dwell as in a tent) upon them. 16 They will not hunger any more, neither will they thirst anymore, nor shall the sun fall upon them, nor any scorching (burning) heat; 17 Because the Lamb who is in the midst (middle) of the throne will shepherd them, and He will guide them upon living fountains of waters, and God will wipe away every tear from out of their eyes. — Revelation 7 | Literal Emphasis Translation (LET) The Literal Emphasis Bible is in the public domain. March 10th, 2025
Hello there, gentle viewers! On this the 28th anniversary of Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s pilot episode, “Welcome to the Hellmouth,” I am starting the project that I created a tumblr account for in the first place.
Tumblr media
Welcome to Buffy Slays, where I’ll be going through all 144 episodes of BtVS over the next twelve months, highlighting as many of the GOOD moments, lines, character choices, worldbuilding moments, etc. etc. from this show (not including the movie, Angel the series, the upcoming reboot, or any comics) as I think people will have the patience to read, haha. I will have something good to say about every single character, and every single episode, and while I’m not saying I can keep out the negativity entirely… this is meant to showcase ONLY the positive elements that came together to create this world beloved by so many for 28 years! I know there are a lot of negative elements to this show as well, and there are plenty of things that rankle me and infuriate me and that I would have done differently if I could. This blog is not intended to sweep any of that under the rug, but is an attempt to not forget that there are a million good qualities about it, too.
Every view expressed in this series will be my personal opinion, will have a heavy emphasis on Spuffy, and will occasionally be controversial, sometimes extremely so. If you disagree, that’s okay! Of course we're all different and have our own thoughts! I'll be covering a lot of ground, and inevitably there will be something that I really enjoyed that others didn't (but hopefully the opposite will be true too, I'll hit on some things everyone loves!) But I do ask for respect of my beliefs and polite disagreement in the comments, and I will delete anything that isn’t.
I posted my ranking of every episode a couple days ago, as well as the rankings of my top 75 Spuffy moments, which I’ll also include and expand on in this series. And I’ll be having some arbitrary segments in these posts, just because I can, and it’s fun!
I was very late to this show, discovering it for the first time in 2020, and I know there are new people entering this fandom all the time! So, if you're reading along and haven't finished the show, consider this your Spoiler Warning for discussion of future episodes and major plot points in any and all of these posts.
This project has been years in the making, and with all my actual fanfiction writing projects still going on, I don’t anticipate really having the bandwidth to engage in discussions on these posts, or at least not until they’re all done. But obviously comments are very much appreciated anyway; thank you very much for reading and letting me know your thoughts!
So, here we go!
Season 1, Episode 1, “Welcome to the Hellmouth.”
Tumblr media
Buffy Summers and her mom move to Sunnydale, California, for a fresh start, unaware of the evil lurking in this quiet suburb. Somewhat reluctant in her role as the slayer, Buffy quickly makes friends and enemies at her new school. While also meeting her new "Watcher," Giles, the staid school librarian, her newly assembled team encounters the ever-abundant unearthly creatures in Sunnydale. (Pulled from the BTVS wiki)
Episode Number: #1 Episode Ranking: #65 out of 144. Writer: Joss Whedon
Top 5 Quotes:
“Because you are the Slayer. Into each generation a Slayer is born, one girl in all the world, a Chosen One.” —Giles
“Prepares me for what? For getting kicked out of school? For losing all of my friends? For having to spend all of my time fighting for my life and never getting to tell anyone because I might endanger them? Go ahead! Prepare me.” —Buffy
“Seize the moment, ‘cause, tomorrow you might be dead.” —Buffy
“Oh, me and Buffy go way back, old friends, very close. Then there was that period of estrangement where I think we were both growing as people, but now here we are, like old times, I'm quite moved.” —Xander
“Excuse me, I have to call everyone I have ever met right now.” —Cordelia
Tumblr media
How “Welcome to the Hellmouth” Slays:
This show is known for subverting expectations at every turn, and it starts out strong, with having Darla be the vampire in the scenario at the beginning of the episode. I also think it’s so fun that she is just shown as a dumb vampire lackey in the first couple episodes before she’s killed, but oooooh is she gonna have SUCH an arc later on in the Buffyverse! And she’s the first character in the whole show!
The fact that we don’t see the origin of Buffy becoming the Slayer (yet) is a really good move. I just think for what the show is trying to do, it might have been a slower start to watch her get Called, and it’s cooler just to have her already in it, already with it, and already so ready to be done with it.
Principal Flutie! He’s just so quirky and darling and trying to be cool, and for someone with only four episodes, he holds a giant space in my heart.
I don’t love mean girls characters, ever, but Cordelia Chase is the exception… and it’s because her first scene is her being nice and helpful to Buffy. Even if her second scene is being awful to Willow, that first impression shows that she is actually a real human, capable of helping others and being charming and making friends, and it paves the way for her redemption arc later.
While not expressly stated in this episode, Buffy makes hints to the fact that she was a popular girl in her old school, and the movie that preceded this backs that up. She struggles to fit in at Sunnydale High, despite meeting and befriending Queen Bee Cordy, but the fact that she can come away from being the Queen Bee herself into someone so humble and down-to-earth is awesome to see. And even though Cordelia is her first friend, Buffy is bothered by the way she talks down to the outcasts, and seeks Willow out, befriending her and being kind to her and subtly assuring her multiple times that it’s okay to demand to be treated decently. Because she doesn’t like to see anyone being bullied.
Giles being SO giddy to meet Buffy, and so excited he gets to be her Watcher! He was my first favorite character on this show, and while now he’s slid down to like fifth place, I’ll never forget how much I loved him, and his relationship with Buffy in this first season.
This. Dialogue. Is just. So. Special. It’s clever, it’s smart, it knows what it’s doing, and isn’t just cheesy words to fill air time like I sometimes feel a lot of shows are!
Buffy having Giles to talk to about all the vampire and Slayer stuff, because really she has no one else, and even if she’s trying to avoid it, honestly, having this parental figure who knows what’s up and is meant to help her is massive. And she doesn’t mention her previous Watcher in this episode, but obviously she had one, because who else would have taught her?
The exchange with Angel, when he says he’s a friend, and she says maybe she doesn’t want one. His response is “I didn’t say I was yours” which just makes me giddy, haha. Because a certain bleached blonde someone in about two seasons will inform them that they’ll never be friends, and that was stated RIGHT in the first episode.
This girl just wants to have fun! I LOVE Buffy going to the Bronze despite not knowing anyone, and trying to have a good time! This trend of her trying to be normal and wanting to have fun and just be a girl will continue for a long, long time, and ahh it’s so sweet to see her here before the world totally crushes her.
Buffy denies very vehemently to Giles that she doesn’t like Angel, despite him not having asked. And I love this because… it’s what Buffy does. She denies her attraction, she pushes her feelings down until they explode out of her. It’s such a telling part of her character, and I’m just… so impressed that it was right there in episode one, haha.
Buffy is actually good at what she does! Despite trying to run away from it, and being super new, and not actually getting into a fight until close to the end, we see she knows what she’s doing. She fights, she quips, she can identify a vampire on sight, and she’s not afraid to go where the danger is. Actually, she IS scared, a little bit, when Luke gets the jump on her, but she keeps her confidence, and her bravery, and she KEEPS TRYING. One of my favorite things about Buffy EVER is the way that she TRIES. It’s so encouraging to me, who has a really, really tough time trying to do anything. She and Spike both, they try so hard and always get back up when they’re knocked down, and I just… need that motivation and inspiration so much.
The fact that vampires turn to dust when you stake them and don’t leave a body is honestly such a good bit of lore. It’s less horrific for Buffy if she doesn’t have to see the dead body, it makes cleanup easier and less gruesome, and since sunlight will burn vampires to ash in most mythologies, makes sense that any way of killing them turns them to dust.
Buffy, Xander, Willow, Cordelia, Giles. The main cast of Season 1. And really, they’re all just… brilliant. They hit their marks, the actors are great at the roles they play, and they all have arcs and personalities not just in this first episode, but over the course of this little 12-episode first season. They pull you in and make you care, right away, and as someone who REALLY struggles with watching something new and identifying with anyone until at least halfway through the season, this is a pretty incredible feat, to make me love everyone in the title sequence in just 45 minutes, haha.
This is not an exhaustive list, lol, I literally watched these episodes with pen and paper in hand and wrote down every single thing I liked. But these are the highlights for me.
Tumblr media
Xander Harris Is A Bro:
Okay, so I am extremely defensive of Xander in a way I know a lot of people aren’t. I see his flaws and know his flaws, but I also see a lot of good in him that I think gets overlooked. I wanted to write a fic incorporating every good, brotherly, heroic, kind thing he does in this show, but uhhhh having a segment in this series instead where I point out his shining moments is way easier, haha.
Jesse is the kind of guy I thought Xander was going to be, the kind that was and sometimes still is portrayed so often in media. Rude, cocky, arrogant, single-minded, puts down his friends, says inappropriate things to girls, and with the emotional range of a teaspoon. But Xander broke the mold, in my opinion. He’s still a teenage boy, and teenage boys are not going to be saints by any means. Especially coming from the household that Xander did. But Xander in contrast to Jesse is sweeter, and softer, and more emotionally aware, if only by a little. He knows how to have girls as just friends, and knows how to make jokes that are actually funny and not just mean-spirited or horny. He has a long, long way to go from this episode, but standing next to Jesse, I could see so much potential in him to have such a strong character!
Xander’s friendship with Willow is really something special. Obviously we’re only talking about the first episode right now, but oh, we’ll be coming back to this. They’ve known each other and been best friends since kindergarten, and even if she has a crush on him, Willow shows in this episode she’s happy just being his best friend. I honestly believe they were each other’s rocks through their childhoods, and they supported each other in every way. They have a teasing camaraderie that no one else they meet in this show will ever be able to come close to, and they will always have known each other before any of the other main characters in this show do. And also when Buffy tells Xander Willow left the Bronze with someone, he’s so proud of her for scoring a guy, haha.
Xander is clearly attracted to Buffy from the start, but he really doesn’t hit on her at first. His first line, “Can I have you?” was a slip of the tongue he was immediately embarrassed about, and it was while helping her pick up the stuff she’d dropped in the school hallway. He asks about her, wants to get to know her, and believes what she says about vampires and being the Slayer almost instantly. Following her into danger the second he sees it’s real. Into a cemetery at night, into a crypt of vampires. And when Buffy tells him to get out of there, he takes Willow and Jesse with him, freeing Buffy of distractions.
What Makes Buffy the Vampire Slayer a Good Show:
Among many other reasons, I think a huge reason I classify BtVS as a "good" show is that I really just view it as telling the story of Spuffy, from start to finish, and it does so by taking its time and spending the first season just on Buffy's origin before even introducing her endgame love interest lol. And it ends when Spike dies. Stories that take their time to do it right and tell it well just hit different.

And that’s a wrap on Episode 1! Thank you so much if you made it this far! I don’t have exact posting days, but, with some exceptions, there will be roughly 12 posts a month.

Lost Fic #144
Not specific lost fics, but I’ve spent weeks looking for fics likes these and havent really managed to find any, so we’re throwing them out in the hope our followers know of some!…
1. Hi! Happy New Year! I was wondering if you had fics where Aziraphale's identity as an angel is revealed? It would be hilarious if you had any where it's the Church that found out. Thank you so much 💕 - @what-is-denial-if-not-fanfiction
2. Ahoy Librarians! Do yer got fics of Aziraphale 'n' Crowley meeting Michael and David, the actors who potray 'em? - anon
3. Hi! I appreciate this blog so much, I jump when I see a notification! Are there any fics where Crowley possesses Aziraphale, and it's a little like a symbiotic relationship where the angel can feel Crowley's love/wants and vice versa? Sort of like venom vibes, if you will! Thank you! - @genshos
4. Hi 👋 Thank you for your hard work and I appreciate the help of finding fics. I was wondering if there were any fics of when Aziraphale gets discorporated in the bookshop. What I mean is that Crowley walks in through the doors as Aziraphale vanishes in that bright light and Crowley just stares at growing flames of the bookshop. Thanks a bunch and have a jolly day! - @taboobeats
5. Hey I’m looking for any fics where Aziraphale affectionately ribs Crowley about being ‘evil’, joking about how much of a softie he can be  - anon
If you know any of these fics please include the number in your reply! Thank you :)

As soon as you came out last night, my entire family gathered together and were left amazed by you. 8. I think the one that suits YoonA the best is 2, but my taste is 444 11. Yellow is a sure winㅜㅜㅜㅜㅜㅜ 12. 2 and 4 are both really insane, so beautiful and fits her so well 14. Yellow is refreshing 15. Oh it is hair ribbons for the last one. I thought it was cat’s ears ㅋㅋㅋㅋ 16. I think they are pretty in the order of 4, 2, 1, 3 19. Yellow fits you so well wow 21. Its yellow for YoonA. It is the first time I seen an Asian that matches yellow colour so well 34. No. 4 is the most beautiful 36. 444, it is refreshing and lovely 38. 44444, it is so unique and YoonA looks the best in yellow 39. No. 4, YoonA looks like a fairy 50. I agree with black! I have always think that YoonA looks good in black since a long time ago. ㅋㅋ 54. The yellow one! As soon as I saw it yesterday, I thought it’s totally Belle! 57. I don’t know, they are all pretty 60. If it is the dress itself, its 1. And I think YoonA suits 4 a lot, but all the dresses look good on her. 61. No. 2 is pretty too but I I fell in love with no. 4 as soon as I saw it 68. No. 4, her face is shining 71. No. 4, I have always thought that YoonA and yellow are the best combination ㅋㅋ 73. No. 4, it is unique and a good match 75. 4444, she seriously look like a fairy 76. No. 3 and 4. No. 1 & 2 look like wedding pictorial 79. 44444, it’s a Disney princess-nim 85. Looking at it again, the details on the pink dress are so pretty as well. 86. They are all pretty, but no. 1 is my personal taste ㅠㅠㅠㅠ 88. 4444 but how can they all be so pretty? Yoongphrodite~ 89. Wow, they all look good on you and are pretty, but it is still the 💛 dress 99. No.1 and the black dress itself, look like an elegant queen.. No. 4, YoonA looks like a fairy. (YoonA’s face is pretty in No. 3 but the dress itself is so so) 108. No. 4 looks like a spring fairy 110. No. 4 is definitely the live action of a Disney princess 114. No. 2 is pretty. But they are all pretty 117. I like no. 3 the most. But yellow one is really cute
121. No. 4! YoonA changed my world, which was only Emma when it comes to yellow dresses 123. To be honest, yellow suits you so well, but my favourite is no. 1ㅋㅋㅋ it is so pretty that I held my breath.. 137. Yesterday, yellow dress is the one top. To be honest, YoonA will look very pretty even in rags, but the yellow dress last night was really the best 141. 222, the best harmony 144. It is my first time looking closely at YoonA’s dresses only because I have been looking at YoonA’s face. But the dress itself seems to be 1 or 3. But yellow suits YoonA incredibly well, so 4… 166. It’s completely 44444444. Yellow is your personal colour. 185. No. 1 is so pretty that I saved the photo. 187. Wow I really can’t choose, all 4 of them are pretty. 190. 111. The first dress is the prettiest and the most luxurious 197. She is so freaking pretty at the Gayo Daejejeon 199. Yellow!! Followed by black, the rest of the dresses aren’t pretty 210. No. 4, she is a spring warm tone goddess. There are very few people who looks good in a yellow dress. 212. No. 2... is that an angel 219. No. 4 is the best. It is also interesting to see something as fanciful as no. 3 220. My preference is just Lim YoonA...  ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠShe is really so pretty ㅠㅠㅠㅠYoonA is so great that I wonder what she would have done if she wasn’t a celebrity, and I suspect if celebrity was made just for her ㅠㅠㅠ♡ 233. Everything looks good but the yellow is really popping. It is so bright 245. I scrolled down saying 1...2....3....4. Why are they all so pretty that I can't choose? 258. I forgot to look at the dresses while staring at her face, so I have to scroll up again and restart ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ it’s the Drama Awards dress, but the yellow colour is pretty 260. No. 2, but they are all so pretty. Is there anyone else that looks so good with ribbons? 280. No. 1 is highly beautiful 283. 222, it is so pure ㅠㅜㅠㅠㅜㅜ 298. For me, its no. 2, so pure and elegant. But if I am just looking at the dress, its no. 4. But the hairstyle and makeup is a  bit of a pity. Source: TheQoo Trans: mystarmyangel
