She already teased Brooklynn with her chance to leave before, back when she left the car. She baited Brooklynn to come after her. And it's more than possible that her motion for the remote was self-defense: if the Nublar 5 had chosen to storm the plane and/or wrestle Brooklynn away by force, she would have obviously used Red to protect herself.

But would she have killed them if Brooklynn had chosen to go with them?

There's no cut back to Soyona when Brooklynn looks back. No glare. No sign of her raising the bracelet and pulling out the remote.

It's not impossible that she would have let Brooklynn go if she'd chosen not to follow. She destroyed the lab and cleaned up her trail, she has business to take care of, the kids would have plenty of issues that would be fun to discuss, and she didn't really give Brooklynn too valuable of information, and had more than enough leverage to keep herself safe...so why not let it play out? Why not gamble a little? Have some fun?

And she wins.

She gives Brooklynn a choice, and Brooklynn chooses her. And it's really sinister if Soyona was going to let her go.

Little homage to my favourite commander, clone, and character in all of Star Wars. This is for you Commander Cody, Kote. After drawing Fox I couldn’t not draw this man. His ability to balance his competence with his insanity is just fuckin incredible. This man will one second snap at a shiny for breaking Obi-Wans concentration, and in the next sucker punch a droid and dog pile Grievous. Icon. Also hm I wonder what the ring around his neck is all about. And his keychain for that matter…

NOW ABOUT THE TATTOO. Though Cody’s the commander, I can’t imagine that he wouldn’t have gotten at least one tattoo. This one was inspired by a fic I read a while ago (The Things You Didn’t Say by Anonymous on ao3, highly recommend) where ***SPOILER*** Cody reveals to Obi-Wan his tattoo, half the open circle fleet. As the open circle fleet directly symbolises Anakin and Obi-Wan, the fact that Cody would explicitly only get Obi-Wans half tattooed over his heart… It makes me feral guys, I couldn’t get the idea out of my head.

The last drawing is just a design idea I had that didn’t really work out when I added colour, but still really enjoyed. I thought about just drawing a full helmet like I did for Fox, but I needed you guys to see his side profile. I love this man so much. Also the stress caused by Rex, Anakin and Ahsoka combined caused him and Obi-Wan to have matching greying temples, just endless suffering with those 3.

Actually I do wish rarepairs would stay rarepairs sometimes because any time a ship gets super popular there is an inevitable fanonification that happens, and the characters and relationship get reduced to a really narrow set of tropes that can be fit into the same old dozen or so incorrect quotes, with the ship itself becoming the most important part of their characterization rather than the characters being able to stand on their own with their individual traits and backstories and tropes and psyche.

All those things end up erased or glossed over for mass appeal when it's the way that their unique personalities and traits and stories intersect that makes the ship interesting in the first place!

i do actually think about this a lot but i don't really know what the fandom looked like early on i think i mostly understand it in the context of like 2009-2013 when the band was active and draw from a lot of contemporaries? like i think there was a lot of misogyny directed towards mitchie for a long while and i think when nate came out he got the buzzfeed exploding rainbow gif treatment and also a good chunk of the gays slid to his lane whether he was their favorite first or not. in our current era i think shane has become an ironic icon where like, people take videos of him literally just existing in the vip balcony at the forum and eat it up whether they were around for the connect 3 era or not because he has that energy of like, dropped out of being famous to hang out with his wife and make alt folk music and only log into social media to get into arguments about whatever lefty discourse made his blood boil that day.

anyway i don't have much past a few social media posts that live in my head. we should develop ai further so they can create these false images for me and i can make a masterpost. but like, here is a very haphazard sample from the 2012/13 era.
