SPOILERS FOR THE ENDING OF NEHRIM
This specific book in the game has set the fireworks off in my brain and I want to analyse the connection between both Nehrim and Enderal
Whilst both of the games discuss the concept of a Cycle, though Nehrim’s Cycle has an answer. A meaning.
Light vs Darkness, Lightborn vs Shadowborn.
Both balance each other out. One cannot exist without the other, or the world is thrown into chaos. Born and reborn again.
From the Wiki - The Cycle of Creation and Destruction
The Light-Born caused an imbalance to the world, that is why a Shadow God had to rise to remove them. However, Arkt points out one problem: Everything created, in turn deserves to be annihilated. Now that you have annihilated the Light-Born, there has been another shift in the balance but this time it is you, the Shadow God, who creates the imbalance. Consequently, you are to be eliminated, so that everything is back in balance, to its original position. Thus enabling the continuous cycle of creation and destruction to start anew. Then history will repeat itself. This restoration of balance is performed by the one who holds absolute power over the world as well as the gods, Fate. Fate is the one who will come and demand your life.
Fate, you say?
#and who can manipulate fate? The only person who can bend reality to her will.#hmmm#I wonder who that could be

A Personal List of Lietners, or Book Recs for Each TMA Entity
These are not all horror novels (although some of them are), but I think they speak to themes that will resonate if you’re particularly into one fear or another.
Feel free to add your own recs! I’m obviously limited by what I’ve read (ie I suspect that Wilder Girls is a good corruption book, but I haven’t read it yet).
Books with canon queer characters are marked with an asterix!
The Eye
- The Children’s Hour* by Lillian Hellman. An accusation made by one of the students brings scrutiny and heartbreak to a girls’ school. OG queer tragedy. (CW: suicide)
The Spiral
- Finna* by Nino Cipri. Two exes working at fantasy!IKEA must find a lost customer by travelling through even-more-fantasy!IKEAs.
- “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gillman. Imprisoned by a husband who thinks he’s helping her, a woman sees a figure in the ugly wallpaper of her room. You read it for English class, but read it again.
- Challenger Deep by Neal Shusterman. Caden’s a normal teen whose friends and family are starting to notice that his mental health is not quite ideal. Caden is on a ship heading for the Marianas Trench, torn between loyalty to the captain and the allure of the deep. (You know that song Ship in a Bottle?) (CW: forced institutionalization)
The End
- They Both Die at the End* by Adam Silvera. Two teen boys get a call that they’re going to die (this is normal in the world). They meet, and decide to spend the day really living.
- Scythe by Neal Shusterman. In a utopia that has moved past natural death, two teenagers learn to kill for the greater good.
The Stranger
- The Murders of Molly Southborne by Tade Thompson. Every time Molly bleeds, her blood creates a perfect clone of her that wants to kill her. This is inconvenient to say the least.
- The Call by Peader Ó Guilín. In a fantasy future Ireland, teenagers train for the day they’ll be transported to the fairy realm, where they’ll be hunted for sport.
- Coraline by Neil Gaiman. Coraline finds a secret passage to a house just like hers, but full of delightful, magical things--and another mother who wants to keep her forever.
The Lonely
- Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel. The food Tita cooks make those who eat it feel her emotions--it’s the closest anyone comes to understanding her.
The Desolation
- The Fifth Season* by N K Jemisin. Geology-magic causes an apocalypse, but it might also keep a grieving mother alive.
The Slaughter
- The Lamb Will Slaughter the Lion* by Margaret Killjoy. A spirit summoned to protect a commune starts killing people. Queer and punk rock af
- The Light Brigade by Kameron Hurley. “They said the war would turn us into light.”
The Vast
- To Be Taught, If Fortunate* by Becky Chambers. A group of astronauts jump from planet to planet, cataloguing the life they find. But then their updates from home stop arriving...
- Into the Drowning Deep* by Mira Grant. Killer mermaids, hard science, and genuinely every kind of rep you can think of! (also has some Stranger stuff going on in it)
The Buried
- The Unfortunates by Kim Liggett. Teens are trapped in a cave while hiking, and something is hunting them through the dark. (Ok, I couldn’t actually think of a book for this fear, but I asked the inimitable @acesaru and she recommended it. She hasn’t steered me wrong yet!)
The Dark
- The City in the Middle of the Night* by Charlie Jane Anders. Humanity struggles to survive on a tidally-locked planet: one side is pitch dark, the other blazing with light. Sophie, a student, is exiled into the darkness.
- The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau. Ember is the one bright spot in the darkness, but blackouts are becoming more frequent as the city falls apart, and only Lina and Doon seem to be paying attention.
The Corruption
- The Hot Zone by Richard Preston. Ebola! It’s the only nonfiction on the list but Oh Boy. (CW for graphic depictions of illness)
- Code Orange by Caroline B. Cooney. Can you get smallpox from a book? Mitty isn’t sure, but these terrorists seem to think so...
The Web
- The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. “No live organism can continue for long to exist sanely under conditions of absolute reality; even larks and katydids are supposed, by some, to dream. Hill House, not sane, stood by itself against its hills, holding darkness within” (It really does have themes about, like, manipulation, but also join me in mixing Hill House and Hilltop Road up 100% of the time)
- Jane, Unlimited* by Kristin Cashore. An orphaned artist goes to a spooky house. She has to make a choice, and we see every possible consequence for that choice. Genre-bending and bi!
- Middlegame by Seanan McGuire. Psychically-linked twins, Rodger and Dodger, are manipulated by the alchemist who created them and controlled (almost) every aspect of their lives. Weird timeline shit!
The Flesh
- The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton. Girls with the power to mold bodies and make people beautiful vie to become the Queen’s favorite in the beautiful, dangerous court of Orleans.
- Unwind by Neil Shusterman. Three teens scheduled to be “unwound” and have all their organs sold to other people flee their fate. Some really gnarly body horor.
The Hunt
- Vicious by V. E. Schwab. Victor and Eli used to be best friends, but after years in prison, Victor will stop at nothing to get his revenge on Eli. Also, they both have superpowers.
- “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Cornell. A long short story about. the hunter becoming the hunted. Spoiler: the most dangerous game IS man.
The Extinction
- Borne by Jeff Vandermeer. The Company destroyed the world, and then a giant bear destroyed the Company. Only a few survivors remain, including Rachel, a scavenger, who finds a creature called Borne and decides to care for it, even as it grows increasingly stronger and more terrifying.
- Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler. A girl who literally feels others’ pain quietly develops a religion while America crumbles around her. (CW: sexual relationship with a really big age gap)
- All the Birds in the Sky* by Charlie Jane Anders. A witch and a mad scientist fall in love at the end of the world. The most real-feeling apocalypse I’ve ever, ever read. (Not really a CW but if reading things that remind you of Current Events makes you uncomfy, beware, because Charlie Jane really nailed it)
#there's a wild amount of neil shusterman on this list but he deserves it#also kudos to me for not writing a whole essay about the haunting of hill house bc yall know i could#tma#the magnus achives#fears#book reccs#the eye#the spiral#the end#the stranger#the lonely#the desolation#the slaughter#the vast#the buried#the dark#the corruption#the web#the flesh#the hunt#the extinction#books#ya#jonathan sims#reading#podcast#what tf else can i tag?#please definitely do add your own faves! i haven't read every book

Pink and the Diamonds
The relationship between Pink and the Diamonds is always presented in the series as very complicated. There is this side of them that shows they really care about Pink such as in the song ¨What´s the use of feeling blue?¨, when Blue and Yellow found out that Pink wasn´t shattered or when we see Blue mourning over Pink´s shattering in ¨Steven Dream¨.It´s easy to guess from many moments and lines that the Diamonds really loved her.
On the other hand, there was this more cruel, controling and abusive side of them. Those moments when they ignored her constanly, when Blue would lock up Pink inside a tower or when they kept her separated from ¨lower gems¨. This cruel side seemed to be motivated by them trying to make Pink act like a Diamond and follow their role in Homeworld´s system.
To analyse their relationships i´m going to talk about them separately since each one is different from the other:
Blue Diamond and Pink
¨I should've done more. Yellow says it'll all be over soon. I wonder what you would think. This is your planet, after all. I still think it is.¨
Out of all the three diamonds,Blue appears to be the one that was closest with Pink. According to ¨Familiar¨ Blue loved watching Pink singing on the bottom of the pool. When she first found about the truth about Rose she held Steven near her while crying tears of happiness, relieved to see Pink again. She also appeared to be the most affected by Pink´s shattering, severeal hints in the series show she suffered from depression and she deeply regret her ¨death¨.
While all the three Diamonds represent a toxic mother figure to some extent, Blue´s case is the most obvious one. She appeared to be the one that used her powers against Pink the most. She tried teaching her how to ¨behave¨ and the one who was in charge of her punishments.
On the other hand she let Pink bend the rules at times and sometimes encouraged her fun side. Blue also preserved the zoo, earth gems and Rose Quartzes just to not forget about Pink. As she said to Yellow in ¨That will be all¨:
¨Yellow, she made them. This is all we have left of her. These Gems, this place, and the Earth.¨
Blue´s abuse to Pink is more subtle since her niceness was sometimes used to emotionally manipulate Pink by treating her like a child who is not capable of taking care of herself.
Yellow Diamond and Pink
¨I want my own planet! I deserve it! I'm just as important as you!¨
¨Then why don't you act like it, Pink?!¨
Yellow is a gem who prefers hiding her emotions. She seems to be more focused on her Diamond duties than Blue is. Homeworlds system is very important to her but so its her love for Pink.
Yellow considered that Pink wasn´t ready to run a colony on her own. Often she treated her more like a annoyance when she had to spend time with her. She was quite neglectful because she was always busy with giving orders to other gems and checking her colonies.
While Yellow appears to be rational, she can get very emotional when it comes to people she cares about: When Peridot mentioned that she didn´t approve Yellow´s plan to destroy the Earth, she became incredibly enraged and put the Diamond Communicator on self-destruct mode. This was because Yellow wanted to get rid of everything that remind her of Pink, like Earth, the zoo and the Rose Quartzes.
¨Drowning in all this regret? / Wouldn't you rather forget her?
Ohh! Won't it be grand to get rid of it all?
Let's make a plan of attack! Start looking forward and stop looking back!¨
In the song ¨What´s the use of feeling Blue¨ her desire to destroy the Rose Quartzes and Earth seems to be motivated by her wanting to forget about the past on contrast with Blue Diamond. Yellow blames herself for Pink´s shattering saying they shouldn´t have given a colony to her.
¨How miserable. I knew Pink couldn't handle her own colony. But, I gave in. And now, I'm to blame for her fate.¨
In the end, Yellow cared deeply about Pink, she just doesn´t show her emotions as often as Blue does.
White Diamond and Pink
¨As for me, I'm certain I don't need you. After all, I'm every color of the light! But you're a part of me… the part I always have to repress¨
White and Pink is one of most mysterious relationship in the series. However, through small hints and additional material, it´s easy to see that White was very controlling with Pink and their relationship was very distant.
¨Pink was as silly as she was small. She was impossible to understand, impossible to ignore, and impossible to control.¨ White Diamond, The Tale of Steven.
Blue and Yellow mentioned in ¨Familiar¨ how they used to be closer and how White locked herself up in her own head after Pink´s shattering. It´s very likely that White did this as way to pretent that nothing ever happened and to not show any emotions since emotions meant weakness to White, and weakness meant to be flawed.
White always assumed what it was best for Pink, she knew better than her. In her eyes, Pink was a silly naive gem who couldn´t make choices on her own and needed to be controlled every second.
And while she didn´t say it out loud, her love for Pink is her weakness. In Change your mind she thought that Pink was hiding in Steven, she was desperate to prove that the little gem was still alive and didn´t want to believe she was gone.
Finding out that Steven was just Steven was what made her break down and realize how wrong she was about everything. In reality, she was in denial of Pink´s shattering and wanted to pretend to that she was fine.
That´s why she hide in her own spaceship and avoided talking with everyone. She was obsessed with being this perfect flawless leader that knew what was best for all gems.
While their relationship was cold and distant, she still cared (and cares) about Pink.
In conclusion: Pink´s relationship with the Diamonds was very complicated. In this analysis i talked about how they really loved her. The main issue was that their very toxic and controlling parenting pushed Pink away. Their obsession with keeping everything under control on Homeworld prevented them from having a healthy relatioship with her and was what finally broke them apart.
I think it´s very interesting how the writers showed that an very authoritarian regime can destroy families and make parents develop a very toxic mentality that ends up hurting their kids. It not only hurts the society but also what is personal for us.

king of scars rant 💅🏽
cw: spoilers for king of scars
Honestly, I hated this book.
The Lore
I definitely hated how this book pretty much retconned the original trilogy and made it all but pointless. So Alina had to lose her powers because there are comic limits to Grisha power but Zoya can turn into a fucking dragon and become the avatar now?
The Shadow Fold had to be destroyed because it made Ravka weak but now it's open season on Ravka without the Fold holding their enemies back and every other week, there's some new assassination attempt from Shu Han or an open declaration of war from Fjerda or blackmailing debt-collectors from Kerch? How is Ravka still functioning, honestly?
Nikolai
I'm sorry, Nikolai, but this book actually made me low-key hate you. Like, the narrative wants so badly to prove me to me that he isn't like other imperialist monarchs! He....remembers people's names and fights alongside them!!!
Another character in this book (Isaak) spends the majority of his narrative idolizing Nikolai and trying to be like him and talking about how amazing he was to his family and then when he dies........Nikolai barely even gives a fuck? I got the sense this friendship was entirely one-sided.
Also, why is this marketed as a Nikolai duology and named after him when he's barely the main character and has to share the narration with 3 other characters---one of which is literally occupying the same locations as him? 🤨
Zoya
Oof, where to even begin with this one.
Listen, I would have been 100% on board with this book being entirely focused on Zoya. She's the real protagonist in my opinion so the fact that had to share the narrative with 3 other people (including one person who doesn't even influence the main plot and another who gets discarded by the end) was really bringing down the potential of her story.
Because there wasn't enough room for her character development, everything about her arc is completely rushed. Like, she can fire-bend and bee-bend in the span of 3 hours? WELL OKAY THEN. Oh, she can just turn into a fucking dragon now because she opened some random ass door in her mind? WELL OKAY THEN.
I hate hate hate it when female characters get accused of being Mary Sues but there's something to be said when we're jumping heads and everyone is just like "Wow, Zoya is so pretty, Zoya is so badass, Zoya is so cool" while not really having any real consequences for her flaw. Like, we all know Zoya can be bitchy and mean (and we love that about her 😌) but....she pretty much gets away it with and doesn't face any backlash for it. Add this to the fact that she becomes the Grisha avatar with very little training on her part and voila. The entire world of the Grishaverse bends its rules and reality around her in typical Sue fashion.
Nina
Girl, what was even the point of your story? I kept waiting and waiting and waiting, stupidly assuming that her story would somehow merge with the main one but it never came.
We learn that things are still shit for Grisha. The Shu are kidnapping them and making them into crazy supersoldiers and Fjerda are getting them addicted to some parem variant to create their own Grisha slave army from birth?
Why on earth would being a Grisha at the Little Palace be a choice in this world? It's either you become a soldier in the Second Army or....you get a fate worse than death. Wouldn't the atrocities committed against Grisha radicalize most Grisha anyway? Like, sign me the fuck up, I want to kick some ass against people trying to literally experiment on me???
Nina's necromancer powers were pretty badass though, not gonna lie 🙌🏽
Isaak
Isaak was honestly the best part of this whole dumpster book and then he gets killed for no reason. And Nikolai doesn't even give a fuck?
Why introduce this new character if we're just going to use and discard him? I kept wondering why we were getting palace updates from a new character instead of just using Genya or Tamar's perspective.
Also, the whole thing with princess Ehri was a bit racist to me? Like we have a Chinese-coded character being a deceptive backstabber (or front-stabber in this case lol) and nearly dies while giving off some serious dragon lady vibes. I get the sense she did die in the original draft and some editor was probably like "Hmm, well maybe we shouldn't have another dead POC" so she survives. At least she didn't speak in broken English like Botkin 🤷🏽♀️
The (Anti) Climax
This was easily the most anti-climactic ending to a Grishaverse book I've read. It's a shame because it has all the elements that could have made it badass? Like we've got saints with god-like powers but Zoya easily defeats Elizaveta by suddenly unlocking fire-bending, bee-bending, and transforming into a fucking dragon. I just can't take it seriously.
Elizaveta herself was too easily distracted as a villain. What the hell even happens to the saints when they die in this place? Do all their miracles that affect the rest of the world just disappear? Who knows. The book ends with Fjerda declaring war and a failed assassination attempt by a Shu Han princess.
Yuri & the Darkling
And finally this brings me whatever mess is going on with Yuri and the Darkling. I get the sense Leigh was super pissed with Darkling stans and created this weird strawman with Yuri's character. Honestly, I thought he was kinda funny because I'm sure even without real-world fans simping for the Darkling, there would certainly be people in the Grishaverse who would gravitate towards the Darkling and see him as a savior of sorts, especially with the world's Grisha being arguably worse after his death and the destruction of the Fold.
What bothered me was the bizarre preachiness of the other characters. Like Yuri literally only exists so that Zoya and Nikolai can take turns being like "Actually, Yuri aka Darklina stan placeholder, the Darkling was the VILLAIN of the series and you were just too stupid to see it, etc"
...Like, girl, we know he's the villain 🤦🏽♀️ If we're going to create a character just to preach to Darkling stans, then why does the entire plot revolve around trying to bring him back into the story? It's like Leigh has a weird love-hate relationship with the Darkling. She hates him and she hates his fan club but she still needs him because otherwise there's no magical plot conflict.
Fridge Logic
If there is no limit to Grisha power and you can just take however much you want from the heart at the making of the world, why the hell did Alina get punished for the amplifier nonsense in the original trilogy?
If the saint's powers are limited to the edges of the Fold, how are they able to manipulate stuff outside of it?
Juris claims when you properly possess an amplifier, you become a living amplifier in return. So is how the Darkling and Baghra became living amplifiers? Or is that just still some unexplained merzost nonsense from Illya Morozova?
What the hell even considered merzost now with all this retcon?
If the Darkling can possess Yuri and magically transform his features to be his own, then why did he need his own body?
And if he can change people's features by possessing them, why did Nikolai get to keep his?
Why did the obisbaya ritual fail in the first place?
Prose
The only positive is that the prose is like a million times better than the original trilogy, but considering how terrible the original is, I suppose that's not really saying much.

I say "my comfort character is Draco Malfoy, I love him" But I have gone so far into my own fanon idea of him that it is not the Draco you know (and maybe also love). Nope. Not at all. Fucking hate that rich preposterous bully.
What I mean by him being my comfort character is: "After meticulous analysis of the films (and a little bit of the books, where it was conveninet) I have developed a huce resonance and atrtatchment to the character as the boy who had no chance. Because do you really have a choice when you are born and bred to be a carbon copy of your parents and their ideals, their prejudice? When it is sort of obvious, if you read into it (thank you Jason Isaacs, your plan to give people something to be sorry for Draco worked wonders) his parents expect the world and more from him. And if he doesn't deliver? Lucius is way to happy waving that cane around and it's making me very uneasy. I'm not saying Lucius is an abusive father, but I would not put it past him, under the guise of "discipline". Cold punishment to cut out unwanted behaviours, showers in riches and luxury and anything he wants when he gets what mommy and daddy want.
Do you really think, as a child, you could see past this ruse? No. You could not. It was good for you and it made you happy, so why would you see past it? But then the child grows up and following Mom and Dad means following wizard h*tler too. He is not even 15 when the Dark Lord returns, and his whole world outside of school bends over backwards to please his every whim, so as to not fall on his bad side. That bad side means death. So now the stakes have risen. It's no longer do what father said or I will get punished, this is do what father said because it's the Dark Lord's will, and going against that will means death.
Do you think a 15 year old that has to sit at extremist murderous fascists meetings in his own dining room every night can even think of escaping this fate? Do you think he is confident in his own abilities to escape the wolf's den? While his family is trapped, willingly or not, under his foot? No, he can't.
He is not selfish or stupid. He knows that there are consequences to his actions, and any sort of failure will mean demise for the only people who have shown him love in this world (even if very conditional). So Draco stays, and Draco does as he is told, even when it breaks him with impossible tasks and renders him a traitor to the entirery of the rest of the wrold he knows. Because the other option is death, multiple deaths. Perhaps he was ok with his own at one point, but he cannot bear sacrifice others just for his own benefit.
People call him selfish, a bully, closeminded. But was he ever really any of those things? When he stuck with his childhood friends since before Hogwarts, and stuck with them even when they were proven to be trash at everything, and not even useful for his own shenanigans? Was he closeminded when he was spoonfed bigotry since he was born, and punished for not replicating it to a T? He was a bully, because he was taught to be a bully, and there was no other option ever presented. You cannot have a child go through all that, and then welcome them at the other end with accusations of the very things you made them become.
Some other people call him a coward, because he didn't try to flee, not even once. Are you blind? He was the bravest person in the entire school, when he was singlehandedly taking on an impossible task, just to give his family some time, some sliver of hope, of surviving the Unforgivable Mistake his own father made (fucking up retrieving the Prophecy) If he failed, they would all die. If he succeeded, a lot of other people would die. In the end, he failed, but again, he had no real choice here. Dumbledore's death was orchestrated outside of his knowledge, but nobody thought of letting him know even after the fact, to ease his guilt. He spent an entire year pretending to try to kill and unkillable man, just so he could maybe get some credit but not need to complete the dreaded task. Futile, really, but he did try until the very end. Snape, who was supposed to help him, was just controlling when that cabinet was supposed to open, according to Dumbledore's whims. Draco had zero control. I'm not even so sure he was the one to fix the damn thing.
A person so devoid of control about their own life, who still tried so damn hard, just to be cast aside as a bully and a traitor, just breaks my fucking heart!!
And I can relate. I do relate.
To the conditional love of his parents, to the conditional support of his peers, to the constant act he had to keep up in order to benefit from any of his privileges - that he did not ask for. To the mountains of lies, upon lies, flung to everyone who might pry, who might hear. In the end, even to himself, to the point where reality and delusion overlap and lose all meaning. To holding onto one last hope, even when you know it's futile, because if you don't... you don't want to think about what will happen if you stop.
I relate to this, on a personal level, twice over. Draco is me, but Draco is also the best friend I had growing up.
I'm the Draco that fought tooth and nail and lost the battle, but never surrendered. The one that eventually fled, and changed his self to be a better person, all on his own.
My friend is the Draco that was a coward. The Draco that never changed, that always settled, because death and being alone was way too overpowering of a threat.
I suffer with myself every day. It is very hard to learn to love the parts of myself that I was taught to shame and blame and hate.
My friend never changed. We broke up almost a decade ago. She was manipulated into being a hateful, closeminded, horrible bully, and my heart breaks for her every single day. Her name is the same as mine. There is not a moment I am not reminded of her. I loved my friend.
So when I say that Draco Malfoy is my comfort character, I mean that his journey offers me a chance to explore my own trauma, in a way that I can offer comfort and feel love towards a person, that I know is a projection of me.
Loving Malfoy means loving myself."
Thank you for coming to my TED talk. I will not be answering any questions.

bnha is fucking relatable
*SPOILERS*
First of all, I am in love with this role reversal--
Bakugou used to be the one shrugging off everyone else, determined to do things on his own, hurting people close to him because he thought he had to be strong alone--and damn that poor boy was so depressed--
Deku was always all optimistic and happy and team-work oriented, and let’s all play nice and keep the status quo, worship the heroes and quickly forgive, compassion for everyone--
Now Deku’s actively rejecting his mentor, shoving people away, working alone because he thinks he has to do everything himself--he’s seen people he loves be hurt, and he’s taking too much on himself--which he has always done--and it’s been seen as a mark of heroism but now it’s too much and it’s making him depressed and unhinged and bitter--
And now Bakugou is the calm and collected one, the one that’s coming to help him, to reconnect him to his friends and get him accept help, accept weakness, accept the need for others--
While STILL BEING HIMSELF--like Best Jeanist and All Might are his mentor figures and he does value their opinions and input, but there is no part of him that bends to what they say. Best Jeanist wants him to have a respectable name? Fuck that, he’s the Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight! All Might wants him to be a nice, easy-going person like Deku? Fuck that, he’s Bakugou, he’s aggressively kind the same way he’s aggressively passionate, he’s going to be the number one hero his OWN damn way--
And anyway, I think Bakugou is honestly ahead in all of this because he’s been on both sides now, he knows what it’s like to be alone and he knows that it’s not actually better, despite knowing full well how shitty people can be (lest you forget that he has known about Endeavor this entire time, not to mention that he’s been through ALL the same events and shit that Deku has)--but he doesn’t let that make him question his own morals and goals, instead just strengthening and broadening his own motivations to be heroic--and I think it only makes sense that he’s going to be instrumental in helping Deku out of whatever place he’s in right now--
And maybe this is just because of what I’m going through in my own life right now, but I relate to so much of this arc--yeah it’s kind of dark and a depressing and morally questionable and I miss the LOV (WHERE are my baby psychopaths?!) and Class 1A (Minaaaaaa), but also it feels like adulthood in so many ways--
Because growing up for me, everything was innocent and fun, you enjoy time with your friends and everything fits into nice black-and-white categories, it’s easy to identify who is good and who is bad, and bad things happen but there’s a righteous heroic entity out there (whether that’s God or fate or government or celebrities or whatever) that’s leading the world in change and helping and serving the weak and making a difference and things will always ultimately end up okay--
And then you grow up a little more and then that entity feels like a lie--God lets people suffer, the government only cares about power and money, fate doesn’t give a shit about all the good you’ve tried to do, healthcare is a fucked-up business, some humans are significantly less equal than other humans and hello misogyny and racism and transphobia and hate crimes and violence, your heroes are actually assholes and your family is actually manipulative and your friends will turn on you in an instant--
Trying to find meaning and hope and joy after that is fucking DIFFICULT, and it can make you crazy and bitter and jaded--
We’ve got Hawks, who is a victim of this society too--turns out that the hero that’s gotten him through so much is an abusive dick (that maybe is trying to do better but definitely not enough, but also he’s a powerful asset that does actually try to protect people, so that’s all just morally gray humanity for you)--his predecessor joined the other side, and can you blame her? and can you blame Hawks for being emotionally invested in her--and he’s trying to make an ideal world of good and kindness, but that goal means so much to him that’s he’s lost sight of the actions along the way too, or else he wouldn’t have killed Twice (my LOVE) or continued to work with Endeavor, except to him it seems like the only option now, and ISN’T it the only option that has been presented to him?--
And Lady Nagant who is just so damaged, the poor thing--who is like so many protagonists of our contemporary action movies, doing the dirty work and killing people to maintain society, except she actually is having a realistic moral conundrum about it, because so many people turn a blind eye to the crimes we commit in order to have our lavish lives (don’t even get me started on the genocide of Native Americans)--
And Death Arms, who I’ve always loved, who has tried so hard to selflessly be a good person and fight for good, and finally hit his limit--I can relate, I was a nurse during COVID-19, it is thankless and back-breaking to begin with, and then when people make FUN of you for something as stupid as wearing a mask, let alone criticizing and attacking your entire career and scrutinizing your every action like poor Death Arms--like yeah, fuck that
And when you’re a heart-on-your-sleeve, optimistic, cares-about-people-so-much-you’d-do-anything-for-them person like Deku, that is actively praised for those attributes--waking up to reality fucking SUCKS. Now people are taking advantage of you, telling you that you’re-not-actually-supposed-to-care-about-human-rights-and-happiness, that having your heart on your sleeve is actually a vulnerability and a weakness and how dare you want to FEEL anything in this society, you have to look out for yourself first--and then he actually does that, and now people think he’s a villain--
Like, damn. I relate to this a lot.

The Sohma clan and its cult-like characteristics or: why and how they get away with everything they do. Why everyone stays. Why the current system held in place operates so well. I wrote this back when episode 10 came out, but I didn’t post it over here. However, with the release of Rin’s episode, I’m seeing this topic being brought up again a lot, so I wanted to post it over here too. This post will include no manga spoilers, so don’t feel the need to watch out for them.
Warning: Abuse will be heavily discussed in this post.
With the reveal that Akito is God, we find out why the zodiac are so loyal to Akito. However, the curse itself is largely a metaphorical device rather than an actual fantasy device. Even without the curse, their loyalty to Akito is still.. very realistic considering the environment they grew up in. It’s not an exaggeration to say that the Sohma clan (at least, the “inside” part of the clan.) is a cult. This post will be explaining why that is and how being in a cult affects people. I will be using this handout (uucnrv.org/uucwp/wp-content/uploads/Cults-handouts.pdf) in the post as a reference. The handout defines a cult as:
A religion or sect, generally considered to be extremist or false, under the guidance of an authoritarian, charismatic leader for whom members exhibit fixed, even religious, veneration.
The zodiac worship Akito as their God. Even if they have problems with how Akito operates things, they still hold great reverence for him and don’t go against him no matter what kind of heinous things he does Ex: Not doing anything about Yuki being locked and tormented in a dark room by Akito for a majority of his young life, Akito partially blinding Hatori + ruining him and Kana’s relationship, Akito harming Tohru, and Akito pushing Rin off from what looked to be the third floor of a building.
Now, onto what the handout describes as common characteristics of cults:
One charismatic leader is the group’s sole authority on truth; only this leader decides, or has the right to approve, all policies and practices. Members are zealous, protective, and unquestioningly committed to the leader.Members regard the leader’s beliefs and practices as truth and law; the leader affirms and enforces this idea. Questioning, doubt, and dissent are discouraged or punished.
Since I’ve pretty much already covered how all of these characteristics relate to Akito and the zodiac under the definition, I’ll refrain from repeating myself on certain things. You may have noticed in episode 9 that Yuki says, “He needs to know his place. Him and me both. That’s how it’s supposed to be.“ He and the others have had instilled in them ever since they were old enough to comprehend things that the way things operate in the Sohma Clan are simply just the way things are supposed to be. That they can not defy that. That is is fate. Like Akito says to Kyo, "It’s what’s been carved into the wheel of fate for those born with a spirit.”
“The group’s leadership dictates how members should think, act, and feel. Members require the leader’s permission to change jobs, date, marry, or have children. The leader tells members where they can live and how to teach and discipline their children.”
Ex: Hatori having to get permission to marry Kana. While this is a characteristic of a cult, this also has to do with the Sohma clan’s family/household system. You can read more about that in this informative and intriguing post made by Furuba Canon here! (It warns in the post but watch out for spoilers.)
“The group uses public humiliation or punishment, debilitating work, sleep deprivation, or other practices to create group-think and to suppress individualism and doubt.”
I’ve already mentioned some examples of the type of punishment Akito exacts against the zodiac for insubordination under the definition, but another example of this would be when Akito visits the school and threatens Yuki with the “special room” he used to isolate him before because he skipped out of the New Year celebration
“The group is elitist, claiming special status for itself, its leaders, and its members.”
The zodiac are most definitely seen as special in the Sohma clan, only the “insiders” knowing of the curse. Akito, of course, is seen as the most special.
“Criticism or jokes about the leader or group are taken very seriously and likely punished.”
We see this when Kyo is fighting back against Akito in the annex, Akito responding with, “Don’t give me orders,” and becoming more aggressive after Kyo tells him not to touch him. We also see this when Tohru protects Momiji from Akito.
Thought Reform
In the article (people.howstuffworks.com/cult.htm), “How Cults Work”, the author describes how cults manage to have so much control over people:
A destructive cult uses countless techniques to get its members to stay, commit themselves and take part in what may be harmful activities. The sum of these techniques constitutes what some people call “mind control.” It’s also known as “thought reform,” “brainwashing” and “coercive persuasion,” and it involves the systematic breakdown of a person’s sense of self… Thought reform is an umbrella term for any number of manipulative techniques used to get people to do something they wouldn’t otherwise do…most psychologists believe that cult brainwashing techniques, which are similar to techniques used in prisoner interrogation, do change a person’s thought processes
Techniques (I will only be mentioning the ones that apply to the Sohma Clan.):
1. “Isolation- Cults cut off members from the outside world (and even each other) to produce intense introspection, confusion, loss of perspective and a distorted sense of reality. The members of the cult become the person’s only social contact and feedback mechanism…
Cults may not allow unsupervised contact with the “outside world.” In this way, there is no chance for a “reality check” or validation of a new member’s concerns regarding the group.
Cults typically instill the belief that “outsiders” (non-cult members) are dangerous and wrong.”
As we first see in the “Spring Comes” episode, the Sohmas mostly all live in the big Sohma estate with no outsiders being allowed in without special permission. Even if they are allowed to attend school and go out for other reasons, they’re still pretty isolated and surrounded by people who don’t find the way things operate inside the estate odd at all, some even encouraging of it. Someone living in that type of environment all of their life will more likely than not be influenced by the people around them, twisted as those people may be.
In a more extreme sense, we see this with how Akito isolated young Yuki and still isolates Kureno. Akito rarely allows anyone to see Kureno, keeping him by his side as much as possible, not giving him a chance to break free from his chains. The same went for Yuki. Again, Akito instilled in him that the outside world was pitch black and that no one would accept him out there, that it was dangerous to interact with people outside because they’d find him strange and weird.
2. “Induced Dependency- Cults demand absolute, unquestioning devotion, loyalty and submission. A cult member’s sense of self is systematically destroyed. Ultimately, feelings of worthlessness and “evil” become associated with independence and critical thinking, and feelings of warmth and love become associated with unquestioning submission…
Any doubts, assertiveness or remaining ties to the outside world are punished by the group through criticism, guilt and alienation. Questions and doubts are systematically “turned around” so that the doubter feels wrong, worthless, “evil” for questioning. The member is loved again when he renounces those doubts and submits to the will of the leader.”
We see this when Kyo questions why Akito allowed Tohru to live with them if he hates her so much, if he’s using her for something. In response to Kyo questioning, Akito retorts, “You’re always quick to make me the villain, huh?…You even killed your own mom! Do you think you have the right to fall in love with someone?! Do you think that’s allowed?! Kyo. Hey, Kyo. Think about it. Who’s the real villain here? Who’s the one who involved her the most?” When Kyo gives in, Akito becomes more “loving” towards him, saying, “It’s okay, I’ll go visit you in confinement. I’ll be by your side, so you won’t be alone. I love you. I actually love you so much, Kyo. Be a good boy from now on.“
Akito loves using people’s trauma against them, knows how to use it in such an awfully cruel way. In Kyo’s case, he has been told that he’s a monster his whole life even by his dad. His mother took her life and everyone blames it on him. It’s not simple to erase that guilt he feels from even though he has positive influences around him. (Ex: Kazuma, Tohru.) That’s how Akito breaks him down. Even if he knows Akito is a cruel person, it doesn’t erase the idea from his mind that he is a monster and that, despite Akito being the way he is, that he is right. Akito knows this. He manipulative and knows how to make people bend to his will.
“The leader may randomly alternate praise and love with scorn and punishment to keep the member off-balance and confused and instill immense self-doubt. The leader may offer occasional gifts and special privileges to encourage continued submission.”
We see this with how Akito tells everyone he “loves” them, but, at the same time, emotionally and physically abuses them to keep them in check. The situation with Kyo in the annex applies here too.
3. “Dread- Once complete dependence is established, the member must retain the leader’s good favor or else his life falls apart.
The leader may punish doubt or insubordination with physical or emotional trauma.”
I believed I’ve already used up all the examples I can use that won’t be spoilers, so I’ll copy the examples I used under the definition. Ex: Not doing anything about Yuki being locked and tormented in a dark room by Akito for a majority of his young life, Akito partially blinding Hatori + ruining him and Kana’s relationship, Akito harming Tohru, and Akito pushing Rin off from what looked to be the third floor of a building.
“Once all ties to the outside world have been cut, the member feels like his only family is the group, and he has nowhere else to go.
A specific example of this would be how Yuki felt when his mom gave him up to Akito. To quote him, “I thought that if she abandoned me, if she deserted me, everything would turn dark, and it would be the end to everything.”
“Access to necessities depends on the leader’s favor. The member must "behave” or he may not get food, water, social interaction or protection from the outside world.”
Again, Akito’s isolation of Kureno and Yuki applies here. There are some spoilery things I won’t mention that are very applicable here too.
To end off,
Indoctrination, or thought reform, is a long process that never really ends. Members are continually subjected to these techniques – it’s part of daily life in a cult. Some adjust well to it after a period of time, embracing their new role as “group member” and casting aside their old sense of independence. For others, it’s a perpetually stressful existence.
The zodiac were born into an extremely twisted environment. It’s pretty much all they’ve ever known. They think the way they are living is the way it is supposed to be and something that can not be changed. Akito is the head of the family and has the support of many Sohma elders/adults including most of the zodiacs’ very own parents. It is also worth noting that the Sohmas are a very rich and powerful clan (Notice how they even have a hospital under their name as shown in episode 5 of s2. That’s how Akito/the parents can get away with abusing the zodiac kids and putting them in the hospital without anyone reporting them.); if they really wanted to prevent someone from acting out against them they very easily could and could easily pay off authorities if anyone managed to report them. Another reason why real life cults are so successful is because of corrupt law enforcement who are willing to turn the other cheek if they are paid enough and deep political ties.
So, with all that being said, you can see why it would be natural for them to feel trapped, to feel that they have no choice. Adults around them that were supposed to take care of them and protect them instead used them for their own benefit/let them be a part of such a twisted system. Abuse, childhood abuse especially, is something that can irrevocably damage a person’s mind. The effects of abuse and trauma are nothing to scoff at. Even healthy adults who’ve never been in that kind of environment can be brainwashed by a cult if they’re unlucky enough to get caught up in one.

headcanons about atla that should’ve been canon
azula is not straight
like if you tell me she is straight i will proceed to laugh in your face for ten minutes straight
and never take you seriously again
like, ever
okay moving on
ty lee is bisexual
tyzula was a thing
zuko has major daddy issues but azula has both mommy and daddy issues and she is by far one of the most fucked up characters in the series, and did not deserve her fate, and the series instead showed her ‘getting what she deserved’ when in reality she was a teenager following orders from her father who was supposed to guide, protect and love her
but instead of doing any of those things he manipulated her and twisted her into becoming his lackey and his killing machine and that was wrong and she deserved so much more than being thrown in a mental institution and being forgotten about
actually a lot of these are about azula idk why
wait no ik why it’s because i love her with all my heart but anyway
toph and sokka had the strongest bromance to ever exist in the whole avatar universe and for the directors to portray bamf toph as having a crush on sokka was such a cold take and so,,, not it
like isn’t there like a six year age difference for them? or maybe four? but I’m pretty sure it’s six because toph is ten but sokka is sixteen but correct me if I’m wrong whatever
like,,, just let them live you know??? toph and sokka are the two sassiest most sarcastic characters in the entire series and you cannot tell me that their bromance would not rival,,, literally everyone else’s
katara once put makeup on toph. needless to say she absolutely hated it but katara was in a sucky mood so toph wanted to cheer her up. she stepped out for one (1) second, intending to watch her face, and sokka wouldn’t stop laughing for twenty (20) minutes. he still brings it up at campfires now
zuko sometimes tries to incorporate katara’s waterbending moves into his firebending after uncle iroh showed him the lightningbending move. he tried to teach azula how to do it once too but it took three days before she would deign to try and learn a ‘filthy water peasant move’
azula secretly loves how she can exercise her power in completely different moves though and she works in secret on new bending moves, taking inspiration from the other cultures, but she’d rather die than admit zuko helped her
azula, mai and ty lee absolutely called themselves the terrible trio. it started after mai coined it sarcastically after they suffered a bitter defeat at some battle and after that it just stuck. azula hates it, ty lee loves it
ty lee calls mai and azula ‘her girls’. they hated it at first and azula stuck her chin up saying she was not anyone’s girl, but ty lee was unshakeable about the matter. mai almost threw up after azula responded immediately to it after a few weeks despite her protests. then mai responded to it accidentally and spent the rest of the week contemplating suicide attempts
tyzula shared their first kiss after azula brought down ba sing se’s walls. ‘i’m so happy i could kiss you’ were the exact words azula said, and ty lee responded ‘then do it.’ it was the first time azula had ever admitted she was happy. ty lee smiles every time she remembers it
suki doesn’t like azula, but after the war she has a kind of grudging respect for her. i mean this girl conquered a city at fourteen??? and became fire lord, if only briefly??? like??? what a badass bitch? warrior to warrior, suki respects azula. person to person though is a different story.
after people fall in love, their auras have a little of the colour of their s/os. that was how ty lee could tell zuko and mai were really in love, after zuko’s scarlet red developed kind of a grey tinge and mai’s sludge grey had a kind of reddish air to it. she couldn’t believe it at first when azula’s electric blue had a steady pink hue around the borders. she jumped into azula’s arms and kissed her the moment she saw. it was the most emotional azula had gotten after ty lee explained why, with one (1) tear rolling out of her eyes. she evaporated it on her skin but ty lee still remembers
katara and aang are that kind of couple who are close in a way that people always assume they’re best friends instead of, you know, dating. but katara doesn’t care because she’s never given much thought to everyone else’s opinions and she’s more in love with aang every passing day, so. aang takes it as a compliment that people assume they know each other inside out.
sokka and suki, however, are That Couple. kissing everywhere and anywhere. and surprisingly so are zuko and mai. when katara compared them, mai reached for the nearest bucket and wouldn’t let it go for three hours.
ty lee and mai trained alongside azula just so they could hang out with her after ozai announced he thought azula was too old for playdates. they all got special treatment at the fire nation royal academy for girls and that was where ty lee learnt to do acrobatics and chi block, and where mai learnt to throw her knives. it’s also why they work so well as a team together
katara found a way to use her bloodbending to heal people- to clot blood as it’s bleeding out or to stop internal bleeding, for example. it’s lifted a lot of the guilt of bloodbending off of her shoulders, knowing that she’s helping people while she’s doing it. a form of it was even incorporated into the northern water tribe’s healing lessons. katara tries, everyday, to come up with more ways to use her water to heal and help people. she still prefers fighting over healing, but after the war, she knows the power of healing can work wonders now.
azula only underwent a year in the mental institution before being released. it was the one thing she couldn’t handle- not being able to use her bending in such a controlled, sterile environment. zuko quickly realised that the only thing keeping her sane was her bending, and immediately made arrangements for her to go back to the palace. she wouldn’t talk to him for weeks, so he invited ty lee back from the kyoshi warriors to try and get her to open up.
azula had planned to ignore ty lee too, but ty lee straight-up slapped the princess the moment she saw her (‘that was for putting me in prison!’) and then collapsed, sobbing, in azula’s arms, and wouldn’t let go of her for ten whole minutes (‘and this is because I miss you so much, azula!’) and after that things kind of got better, but slowly.
zuko hates sitting in the fire lord’s throne. like, he hates it. it reminds him too much of his father, and so he tries to be out of the throne room as much as possible. this works in his favour- there are always councils and meetings that he needs to oversee.
zuko is so bad at politics. like, he’s so bad that it’s not even funny. it kind of was in the beginning, but then he made a spectacular mess of things and aang was zero help. in fact, despite being the avatar, zuko thinks he might have actually made it worse. and then aang got caught up in the mess too, thanks to his disastrous involvement, and azula and mai wouldn’t stop laughing at their predicament for a week before they deigned to help them.
so now despite zuko being the actual fire lord, azula and mai, being trained for politics their entire lives, are usually the ones to step in when things get a little too much for him to handle. azula is still not satisfied with her role, of course. but then, azula’s never satisfied.
azula and ty lee are the epitome of disaster gays. one time ty lee tried to hold azula’s hand, and azula shook it. ty lee wouldn’t stop laughing, but azula was so embarrassed she accidentally set her clothes on fire. that just made ty lee laugh even more, but azula’s pride was mortally wounded. the first time ty lee told azula she loved her, azula formally thanked her. as if they were at a business meeting. and then asked ty lee what positive assets or advantages their new relationship would bring azula. it’s rumoured that to this day ty lee is still very confused about what went down.
with the intention of teaching azula a humbling lesson and to find ‘peace within herself’, zuko sent her to work at uncle iroh’s tea shop in ba sing se for a month shortly after she came back to the palace. after azula nearly setting fire to the shop, throwing a teapot of scalding hot tea into a customer’s face after they demanded to ‘speak to the manager’, destroying general property and terrifying the other employees to the point where one regularly wet himself every time she walked in, iroh was begging zuko to take azula back before the end of the first week. when she came back, the only thing azula said she’d found was solid proof of why ozai had good reason to burn down the earth kingdom while he was at it. and a new idea of how short her patience was.
you guys are welcome to add more if you think of them

Kamilah
In her office, Kamilah tried one last time to dial her brother’s number. Voice mail again. She rolled her eyes.
“Until when are you going to ignore me?” She sighed.
She remembered their last conversation, a few days earlier. It was late night, he knocked her penthouse’s door repeatedly. When Kamilah opened it, Lysimachus was pale as a ghost. His heart was racing inside his chest and his breath shallow and quick, indicating he was in great distress.
“It’s her, Kamilah,” he told, when she forced him to sit down and calm himself. “Rheya’s the First.”
“Brother, she just left my place,” she argued. “I invited her for dinner. I tested her through the day. There’s no evidence…”
“She confessed, Kamilah! Right in my face. She’s not who you think she is, okay? She set up that whole situation with Priya. She threatened to kill Katherine… and me!”
Kamilah sat down and looked deeply into his brother eyes. They never lied to each other. And he was scared, truly scared. In truth, she had never seen Lysimachus so frightened before.
“Brother, I…” she grabbed his hand, unsure of what to say to comfort him. Unsure of what to think. “I’m so confused.”
“Why don’t you believe me?” He seemed hurt. Truly hurt. And especially obsessed to find a manner to defeat the First Vampire.
In the next morning, Adrian called her. An emergency. A vial containing a blood sample from the Tree Of Eternal Life had disappeared from the laboratory. They searched all over the city, in every place it could be. They conducted searches at Priya’s mansion and club, Lester’s businesses and even among their own Clan members. There was no sign of the blood.
Until Kamilah found it by accident, inside the secret weapon storage in her brother’s apartment. Lysimachus swore, once again, that it was Rheya’s doing. But all evidence lead to him. His old card was used to access the safest areas in the laboratory. The employees also remembered seeing him there during the night. The footage from the security cameras had been purposely erased. Everything pointed to one direction, he planned to ingest the blood to become more powerful.
An emergency voting decided it would be better if he was temporarily out of The Council.
“I know you’re going through a lot of stress,” Kamilah told him. “I’m not saying I don’t believe you, but I’m also not saying I am. Just, stay in New Orleans for a few days. Clear your mind a bit.”
“Not even you… my fucking twin sister!” Lysimachus punched a hole in the wall. “You’ll all regret what you’re doing, and especially who you’re trusting. She’s manipulating each one of you!”
Coming back to reality, somebody was waiting for her at the door. Rheya. All those days, Kamilah was monitoring her closely. There wasn’t a single part of her that indicated danger.
“Kamilah?” She asked. “Is everything okay?”
“Absolutely,” Kamilah answered. “Personal issues. And you? Anything I can help with?”
“Actually, I’ve seen something that concerned me. I’ve been receiving threats and I believe they’re coming from the Order Of Dawn. I think they could be coming for me.”
She showed Kamilah some strange messages she received and pictures she took of strangers observing her out of the window.
“Don’t worry,” she assured. “We’ll investigate and grant you some protection.”
“Really?” Her eyes filled with tears and she started to cry. “Sometimes I think it’d be better if I returned to Europe. I never wanted to cause you trouble.”
“Rheya, no…”
Kamilah felt extremely bad for her. She quickly called Adrian and some of her Clan members to patrol the city and make sure no Order soldiers were walking around New York.
———-
Lysimachus
Angry, Lysimachus trained alone with a punching bag in his apartment in New Orleans. As soon as he arrived, Garrus checked his mind. Rheya’s presence was beginning to take over the place. With his Fae magic, he was able to remove it. But it was too late, everyone at The Council was convinced he was guilty.
He had to find a manner to stop Rheya by himself. She should have at least one weakness. She wasn’t invincible. Nothing could be. In nature, everything had a balance. An opposite.
“Wow,” a female voice said behind him, “someone’s mad.”
“Katherine,” he turned around, wiping off the sweat from his face with a towel. “Do you know how to kill a bitch?”
“Stake her. Or set her on fire. Assuming you’re talking about the Queen Bitch, Priya Lacroix.”
“Not actually. I’m talking about the First Vampire.”
“Is she truly real?” Her eyes went wide in surprise.
“Why do you think I’m back here?” Lysimachus told. “She caused that situation with Priya and found a manner to put everyone against me, when I discovered her identity.”
“Oh boy, you’re in serious trouble.”
“I know.”
After he showered, they walked around the streets of New Orleans while he informed her about the whole story. Since the Tree Of Eternal Life, the creation of Gaius and Xenocrates to the First Vampire’s return, using of Amy’s death.
“Why Amy?” Katherine wanted to know.
“According to this creepy British cult, she’s her descendant,” Lysimachus told. “And also a Bloodkeeper. What in my opinion, is the major sign of their connection. Their powers seem to be very similar.”
“Have you told all of that to your sister?”
He let out a chuckle.
“Who says she believes me? If Rheya asks her company, she’d probably give her everything in a second. She trusts her with her eyes closed.”
They stopped by the Graveyard Shift for a drink. Nik and Cal joined them and became part of the conversation. None of them had any ideas of what in this world could kill a legendary vampire.
“What do you think her plans are?” Nik asked. “She seems harmless so far.”
“She’s playing cautiously,” Lysimachus told. “Slowly involving and seducing everyone into her game. Soon they will bend to her will or meet a terrible fate. But her main interest… I think she wants Amy. For some purpose.”
“If she’s truly a queen,” Cal commented. “Amy would be her princess. Isn’t it obvious? She wants to share her legacy.”
“A legacy of blood and destruction,” Katherine added. “After that, she’ll probably eradicate the human kind.”
They all stared at each other in silence. None of them had a suggestion that could help.
“Let’s drink while we still can,” Nik suggested.
After he order at the bar, Ivy approached the table bringing their drinks and heard the conversation.
“Well well, a conversation about a legendary bloody creature. My favorite subject.”
“It wouldn’t be, if you met her,” Lysimachus showed them a picture of Rheya on his phone. “Ladies and gentlemen, the real face of evil. Rheya Apostolous.”
“Legendary. Bloody. And hot,” Ivy grinned.
“No wonder why your friends are getting into her so easily,” Cal joked.
“Come on, guys. Yes, she’s gorgeous. But she want all of us dead or kissing her feet. Would you mind helping me to come up with a plan? Something that could end her for good? There must be something. A balance nature created to stop her.”
Ivy was pensive for a moment before speaking:
“Meet me at the library tonight. I think I’ve got something we can do.”
“Does it involve the dead?” Lysimachus rolled his eyes, wondering how many ghosts he’d have to capture. “Or necromancy of any sorts?”
“Yes. I was thinking about… a Ouija board. But better.”
“Here we go again,” Katherine looked at him and sighed.
———-
Amy
As a form to protect Rheya, Kamilah requested Amy to follow her to all places. She was more than glad to help, after all she and the Greek vampire had an immense connection.
“So, Amy. How is it going with your psychic powers?” Rheya asked while they were working out together at the private gym in her building.
“I feel great,” she smiled. “Everyday I gain more and more control over them.”
“You not only can enter people’s minds, but you can make them actually experience the memories, is that correct?”
Rheya’s expression suddenly changed. She stopped with her exercises, looking sad, nostalgic.
“Yes. What’s wrong?” Confused, Amy stopped too. She lead Rheya to the nearest bench.
“Would you mind… showing me my family again? It’s been so long. Time is cruel. It has erased my husband’s voice from my memories or the scent of my little daughter’s hair. I miss them everyday and… I can’t barely remember their faces.”
“Of course.”
Amy grabbed her hands, focusing on the depths of her mind. Suddenly she could see both of them standing in an ancient throne room, where Rheya was in company of a man and a little girl.
“At least now I have the evening free to have dinner with you and Iola,” she smiled. “My two loves.”
“Mama, I want to see your fangs again!” Iola asked.
“They’re nothing special…“
“They are! I want fangs like you, Mama!”
“My darling… No, Iola. These are just for me, do you understand?”
Watching the scene, Amy couldn’t avoid feeling emotional. Tears formed in the corners of her eyes. For some reason she felt attached to those people. Maybe because of the tragedy she knew that would later separate them. Or even because it made her think of her own family.
When they returned, Rheya’s eyes were teary but she had a smile on her face.
“Thank you so much, Amy,” she hugged her tightly. “It was so good to see my Iola again. Actually… you remind me a lot of her.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, since young age she was exactly like you. Adventurous, fierce and she had a great sense of humor.”
At the same time Amy felt sadness hearing those words, it also caused her unexplainable joy.
“I’m sorry she was taken from you,” Amy lamented.
“Don’t be,” Rheya touched her cheek fondly. “Sometimes life takes something away from you… but it grants you something else in return. Sooner or later.”
Amy went home and showered, but the scene she experienced with Rheya wouldn’t leave her thoughts. Especially her daughter. They seemed to be so close, so affectionate to each other.
That vision triggered inside Amy an intense desire of having a family on her own too. She imagined having a daughter with Kamilah. She’d give her little girl everything her mother didn’t provide her while growing up. She not only would be her parent, but her best friend. They’d share good memories and start adventures together.
She texted Kamilah, asking her to go home as soon as possible. After lunch she was impatiently waiting for her wife. As Amy sat down on the couch, their kitten, Beruthiel, quickly jumped on her lap.
In the first days, Kamilah was reluctant about getting attached to their new pet, considering how short their life-span could be compared to theirs. Now, everyday she’d come home with a new gift for Beruthiel. She was literally treating her like a princess.
They could form a beautiful little family. She, Kamilah, their cat and a baby.
“Hey,” her wife entered the penthouse, “is everything okay? You said you needed to see me.”
“Yes,” Amy wrapped her arms around Kamilah’s neck. “I’ve scheduled a visit to Raines Corporation. You know, only to check how his research is progressing.”
“Oh, what research?”
“The one we can have a baby.”
“Only to check, huh?” Kamilah’s raised eyebrow suggested she already knew what Amy had in mind.
“And get informed on how it would work.”
“Amy…” Kamilah sighed. “I’m okay with adopting a cat but… we’re not in a good moment to consider having children.”
“Why?” Amy wanted to know. “We’re married, with a stable life, I’ve got perfect control of my powers. I see no reason to postpone it.”
“She’s out there. The First Vampire.”
“Kamilah, please… I even stopped having those creepy visions. She’s gone for good.”
“She’s not,” Kamilah’s expression was serious and certain. “I sensed her presence the other day. She could be the one who manipulated Priya’s mind and yours. And besides, there’s also the possibility the Order soldiers could be out there, getting ready to strike.”
“So…” Amy threw herself on the couch, biting her lower lip. “Didn’t you have to discuss this Order issues with Adrian? I could come with you.”
Kamilah stared at her in silence again. Her face suggested she wasn’t thrilled about the idea.
“It’s not the right moment, Amy. It’s not like we’re buying a new video game, it’s a life we’re talking about. I’m not bringing a child to this world, knowing they could be in danger.”
“It will never be good moment right? I mean, you said countless times you never wanted to be a mother and that you can’t stand children.”
Amy stood up from the couch, storming to the front door. She knew it was only another excuse. Kamilah would never give her what she wanted the most. She felt extremely upset and frustrated.
“Amy…” Kamilah interrupted her. “Can we talk about this?”
“No,” she responded, coldly and ironic. “It’s not the right moment.”
Alone, she took her car and drove directly to Raines Corporation. If Kamilah didn’t want to be part of this decision, she’d do it by herself. And in the end, if she still couldn’t accept it… maybe she didn’t love her as much as she thought.

Lysimachus
After midnight, Lysimachus and Katherine followed to Ivy’s library. Trusting her was never the smartest or safest idea, but it was the only option he had at the moment.
The library was completely dark, until the very end of the building, where Ivy had prepared a magical seal on the floor, surrounded by candles.
“For heaven’s sake, what is that?” Katherine asked. “Please tell me you’re not planning to take him to the Realm of Death.”
“I considered it,” Ivy said. “But it was too risky, especially because he’s… biologically dead? So I decided to bring the dead to our world instead.”
“Wait,” Lysimachus interrupted. “Who are you planning to summon from the dead?
“The Two Sons. Xenocrates and Gaius.”
Only that name alone brought shivers to Lysimachus body. He hated that man with every fiber of his body being. If one thing he was sure, was that he never wanted to see Gaius again. Not even in spirit.
“Bring Xenocrates. Let Gaius trapped in hell, where it’s his place.”
“Okay, I’ll need to perform a ritual. Mind giving me some privacy?”
“Of course.”
Lysimachus walked to an armchair where he sat down. Katherine followed him. He buried his head in his hands, wondering what could even happen if that ritual went wrong and for some reason Gaius escaped the Realm Of Death and returned to life. By the side of his beloved Goddess, they’d rule the world, exterminating the human kind.
“Hey,” Katherine touched his shoulder, “what’s wrong? You’re shaking.”
“Gaius,” he confessed. “Only the mention of his name it… it drives me crazy. Have you ever hated someone so badly it consumes you, changes you?”
“Yeah, not someone. Something. A monster.”
“He Turned me, against my will. Besides keeping me separated from my sister from centuries. I can help thinking everything he caused in her life was a revenge against me. Even if he’s dead… the part of me he took away is never returning.”
“I can relate. That monster… it took the most precious thing I’ve ever had. And I will never be the same again. Even if I try. Part of me also died that day.”
“Katherine…” Lysimachus looked into her eyes. For the first time she looked open, vulnerable. “You never told me…”
“I usually don’t,” Katherine shrugged, fighting off her emotions. “I think I’m really starting to trust you.”
“Well, that’s a good thing.”
“Not for me.”
They both shared a laugh, when Ivy’s voice called them back. It was time to summon Xenocrates’ spirit. Ivy was voicing some words in an ancient language when the flames from the candles exploded and intensified, almost blinding them with the light.
As Lysimachus opened his eyes again, Xenocrates’ form was standing in the middle of the seal.
“What did you call me here for?” He snarled. "A man can’t even be dead, without being bothered by abominations like you?“
"We need answers,” Lysimachus approached. “About Rheya. You were her First Son, you must know how to end her for good.”
“And why do you think I’d help you? Especially, when you were all responsible for setting her free.”
“They didn’t,” Katherine intervened. “They didn’t set her free. They were only studying the blood, for good purposes.”
“It had nothing to do with the blood. It was… something else.”
“What was it?” Lysimachus asked, intrigued. “We didn’t know. And now, she has started to cause trouble. I need to stop her before the damage spreads.”
“I don’t know what brought Rheya back, otherwise I’d have prevented it,” Xenocrates told. “But if you want to stop her you’ll need to go after her husband, Demetrius. His blood is the only thing that can stop her.”
“Isn’t he dead?”
“Sort of. Rheya attempted to Turn him when he was murdered but it was too late. Her blood transformed him into something dark, without a conscience. A monster.”
“The First Feral,” Katherine concluded.
“His presence brought death to everything around him, including Rheya herself,” Xenocrates continued. “She was weakened by his darkness. So she sent him away.”
“And where is he now?” Lysimachus wanted to know.
“In the Island of Death, somewhere in South Pacific.”
“I’ll find him.”
“You will,” Xenocrates let out a sarcastic laugh. “But you won’t make it back home. The Island will drain all your life before you even get to him.”
“So what do I have to do?”
“My time here is over.”
“No! Wait!”
A strong wind filled the room, lighting off all the candles and the First Son disappeared.
“So what do we do now?” Katherine wondered. “How will we get to the Island?”
“I don’t know,” Lysimachus sighed, frustrated. “He said it drains the life of any living being that approaches it.”
“But he didn’t say anything about a undead being, did he?” Ivy suggested.

Kamilah
In the beginning of the night, Kamilah went to Raines Corporation to meet Adrian and find out if he had any news about a possible invasion of the Order Of Dawn in New York. Amy wasn’t picking up her calls, but she found out she was at the Shadow Den with Lily. Apparently they invited Rheya for a girl’s night.
“Please, tell me she didn’t convince you to impregnate her,” Kamilah took a sip of the whiskey Adrian served her. “I know her, Adrian. She does that puppy dog eyes that make you unable to say no.”
“She didn’t,” Adrian let out a small laugh. “I showed her the research, but explained it’s still a work in progress. And I’d need your DNA too.”
“Good. How would it work anyways?”
“It’s a serum. First, you both must sign a contract. I’ll mix Amy’s DNA to yours and add the blood from the Tree. The three elements together will generate a new life. A new being.”
“Just like that?”
“Not really,” Adrian explained. “After I inject it on Amy’s body or yours, you will have to… conceive the baby, if you know what I mean. Like a regular pregnancy.”
“I see.”
Kamilah swallowed the entire glass of whiskey in one sip, trying to get rid of the stress the thought of being a mother caused her.
“What’s the deal, Kamilah?” Adrian asked, noticing her silence.
“I’m not ready, Adrian,” Kamilah sighed and confessed. “And I don’t think I’ll ever be! I’m 2065 years old. I’ve killed people and burned cities to the ground. How can I become a mother? How am I supposed to raise a child?”
“We’re never ready, but when the moment comes, it’s just magical. You’ll learn to be a mom, Kamilah. Together with Amy.”
She noticed how distant and nostalgic Adrian looked after that talk. It probably reminded him of his son, Charles.
“We’ve adopted a cat recently,” Kamilah changed the subject. “Her name is…”
She couldn’t get used to that name. Something Amy and Lily picked out from one of their geeky obsessions.
“Beruthiel. I heard about her,” a smile returned to Adrian’s face. “I was also told you’ve been using your penthouse security system to observe her when you’re absent. And that you’ve bought her like 10 different collars in a week.”
She only rolled her eyes in response and walked to the window. Kamilah started remembering Amy’s behavior that afternoon. ‘No. It’s not the right moment’. Those words were said with the same coldness and rage as when she was under the First Vampire’s influence, before her Turning. She was about to express her concerns about her dark presence inhabiting Amy’s body, when the emergency alarm of Raines Corporartion started echoing through the entire building.
“What is that?” Kamilah asked, confused.
“I don’t know,” Adrian ran to his computer. “But it doesn’t sound good.”
From the security cameras, they observed as a small group dressed in white marched into the building, inspecting every corner. Searching for something specific. Their clothes and weapons had a military look, like they were soldiers of some kind. Kamilah recognized immediately who they were.
“The Order Of Dawn,” she concluded. “What do we do?”
“I don’t know,” Adrian was completely enraged. “But I won’t be standing here and watch them kill my employees.”
Kamilah followed him outside the office, with her daggers in hand. The Order Of Dawn was known for their skilled and ruthless hunters, who would kill everyone that stood in the way of their mission, humans or vampires.
“They’re at the labs,” Adrian whispered, watching the security cameras from his cell phone. “They’re… torturing them.”
Kamilah glanced at the screen, observing the soldiers holding a blade against one of the scientists’ neck. Adrian hands were shaking in anger. His eyes were dark and distant. She knew it was useless to try to calm him down at this stage.
“Look,” Kamilah pointed. “Two of them are guarding the main hall. We can ambush them and steal their outfits. It’ll make it easier for us to get the rest of them.”
“Good plan.”
They followed to the main hall through the emergency staircase, avoiding to make any noise. Arriving at the company’s entrance, they waited for the right moment to strike. Moving silent and stealth, Kamilah took down one guard while Adrian took the other.
After wearing their uniforms, Adrian checked the cameras one last time. They weren’t in a large group, only 7 soldiers, he counted. He and Kamilah proceeded with their plan, entering the laboratories disguised as members of the Order Of Dawn.
“What are you two doing here?” One of them asked, as he saw them. “You were supposed to guard the door. Raines could be arriving at any minute.”
“He won’t, Kamilah told, approaching the group, ready to draw her daggers.
"How can you be so sure?!”
“Because…” Adrian grabbed the soldier’s neck, breaking it instantly. “He’s right here.”
The remaining soldiers pulled their weapons and circled them.
“There’s six now,” Kamilah looked at Adrian. “Three for each?”
He nodded in agreement.
Kamilah’s soldiers attacked her with their UV flashlights. She looked at them for a second, before rolling her eyes.
“It seems like you haven’t received the latest updates,” she threw one of her daggers right into a soldier’s chest. “UV light doesn’t do a damn thing on me!”
Using her advanced speed, Kamilah dodged their crossbows and retrieved back her dagger. From behind, she stabbed both of them at the same time. She looked at Adrian, holding in his hands the hearts of two of his soldiers, while chasing the last of them. Kamilah streaked in his direction, daggers in hands, going straight for his neck.
“It’s over,” she said as he dropped dead on the floor.
After checking his employees, Adrian offered Kamilah drank some stored blood to recover strength and heal any minor injuries.
Kamilah’s cell phone started ringing. It was Priya.
“I know you hate me. But sending the Order Of Dawn to my club was a slut move, Kamilah!”
“What? Are they in there too?” She shared a concerned look with Adrian.
“Of course…” by the sound, Priya stopped to shoot the soldiers with a gun. “Otherwise, why would I even call you? ”
“I… I’ll send some reinforcement.”
“Those were one of my favorite shoes!” The fashion designer yelled. Panicked screams were heard in the background.
“Priya?!”
“There’s no need, I think I killed all of them. Wait…” she fired the gun again. “Yes, now I did.”
Adrian was also on his phone. The Order also attacked Lester’s business. With the help of his Clan, he managed to get rid of them.
“Leave one of them alive,” Adrian ordered. “Bring him for an interrogation tomorrow.”
He hung up. Both of their phones buzzed at the same time with texts from several vampires of Jax’s clan. The Shadow Den was under attack, by the largest group of soldiers seem in New York so far.
“Oh no.”
“We have to go,” Kamilah rushed, headed to her car. “Amy is in danger.”
———-
Amy
“Another fight?!” Lily questioned, while Amy finished putting on some make-up. Rheya would arrive soon and they’d introduce her to the life in the Shadow Den. “And because you want to have children?!”
“Yes,” Amy answered. “I just feel ready for the next step. I want to start a family with Kamilah.”
“Amy, I’m sorry but it doesn’t sound like you. I mean, you guys have been married for only a year. A lot can change.”
“What are you suggesting? Nothing is changing between us.”
“You’re a vampire now,” Lily told. “There’s so much you may want to experience. You’ll have the eternity to be a mother.”
“Being married to Kamilah, I’ve already experienced a lot,” Amy argued. “We’ve traveled to so many places, she introduced me to a lot of new things, we’ve grown up as couple… it seems like the right moment.”
“Well, that’s your decision to make. But make sure you’re not using it only to mask your past traumas.”
Amy did have a family-related trauma. She always felt abandoned, rejected by her mom. Ofter she’d seek for affection in her friend’s families. The conflicts between them only got worse when she became a teenager. In many occasions, she made her mom cry. Which was enough for her to decided the should follow different paths.
Now she had built her own life away from her hometown. She had a great job, a loving wife and she finally got answers about her mother’s behavior and her origins. In truth, she was starting to understand and even forgive her.
Having a baby with Kamilah had little to do with that. Part of her didn’t want children before because she wasn’t sure she’d be able to be a good mother, based on her own experiences. Now she wanted to break that cycle. She wanted to fix things with her mom, and at the same time, have the motherhood experience herself.
“Hello,” for some reason Rheya was already standing in the living room. “You didn’t hear me knocking, the door was opened so I entered. I hope I didn’t interrupt anything.”
“Not at all!” Amy smiled, dismissing her thoughts. “We were waiting for you. By the way, that’s Lily. My best friend.”
“It’s nice to meet you,” Lily extended her hand. “Very nice.”
“It’s my pleasure, darling. Amy talks about you all the time.”
Amy checked her watch. It was almost time for Liv’s new show to start. Both of her friends had engaged in a conversation. Lily seemed to be nervous around Rheya, panicking and stuttering. She shook her head in denial.
“Hey, you two,” she called. “Let’s go!”
First, they gave Rheya a tour of the Shadow Den. She was impressed by the place, checking all the stores and attractions the community had to offer.
“This place is amazing. A mass of vampires, rejected by The Council, build all of this? Without any support?”
“They did,” Lily told. “We made some improvements and redesigned after we were recognized as a Clan by The Council.”
“And there…” Amy pointed to the male vampire coming in their direction, “is the man behind most of it, Jax Matsuo.”
“Hey,” Jax joined them, briefly nodding at Rheya. “What are you girls up to?”
“We’re headed to Liv’s new show, but before we’re showing Rheya around.”
“Rheya, huh? I remember seeing you at the Tribunal. You saved Priya’s ass.”
“Jax,” Rheya looked deeply into his eyes and grabbed one of his hands. “Your bravery, your strength is like no other. Building this place, protecting your people, fighting for your rights… it’s inspiring. You have my admiration.”
“Whoa,” Jax’s cheeks turned a little pink. “Thank you, but I had help of my Clan members. We were all part of this.”
“I… I…” Lily made some effort to insert herself in the conversation. “I created the Fangbook. A social network for vampires.”
Rheya grinned and grabbed her hand too.
“This is also amazing, darling. An online gathering of all vampires in the world. Your knowledge can serve for greater purposes. You can achieve great things. Never doubt your potential.”
“T-Thank you.”
Amy laughed and patted her best friend’s shoulder.
Together they followed to Liv’s cabaret, finding their reserved seats in the front row. That was the debut of a show she long planned, back when she still a mortal. She looked unusually happy that night.
“This place is crowded,” Amy told Jax, before the lights went out.
“I know, right?” He said. “It’s good to finally see a smile on her face.”
A dancing number started on the stage, Amy was very focused. The music was hypnotizing. She and Lily started to move their bodies in sync to the rhythm.
“Come on, Jax,” Amy shouted. “Join us.”
“In a moment,” he looked serious at his cell phone screen. “There’s something wrong in the tunnels.”
Jax didn’t have any time to leave, as soon as he got up a group of soldiers dressed in white burst through the doors. Amy recognized them from Greece.
“The Order Of Dawn.”
“Everyone take cover!” Jax yelled, as they started to aim and shoot their crossbows at the vampires in the cabaret.
Amy stood frozen in the middle of the commotion, her eyes registering the scene all around her. Vampires attempted to run, or even to protect themselves, only to suffer cruel and painful deaths. There was a lot of screaming and crying, while the Order Of Dawn chanted:
”The Order does not yield. The Order does not sleep. The Order shows no mercy… and leaves no survivors.”
She tried to locate Rheya and Lily but they were nowhere to be seen. A tightness on her chest started to suffocate her.
“Amy!” Jax pulled her out of the way, to prevent an attack with UV light. Considering the desperation of the moment, he probably had forgotten it didn’t affect her.
“Jax,” she returned to her conscience. However, when she looked at the male vampire on the ground he wasn’t moving. His chest had a big burning wound. Tears stated to fill her eyes as she touched it. No vampire would survive an injury of that extent. “Jax, please…”
“Die,” an Order soldier appeared in front of her, with a crossbow aimed to her chest. She fired. Amy stopped the stake midway with her psychic powers.
Looking around, she could see piles of ash all around the club, along with severely hurt vampires, struggling to stay alive. Rage started to consume her. She felt her eyes burning in pure anger.
With a grin on her face, she sent the stake back in the soldier’s direction. Hitting her right in the middle of her eyes.
“What is that?” A group of soldiers came in her direction, as their member’s lifeless body fell on the ground.
Amy could feel their hearts beating. The blood flowing inside their veins. They had no idea what she could do. They had no idea of what she could become. She had the urge to kill them. All of them. She focused, gathering all her power.
“Kill her,” their leader ordered. She jerked her hand, sending all of them flying. The heavy impact against the wall crushed every bone inside their fragile human bodies.
More soldiers came in her direction. She leaped forward. With fangs drawn, she went directly to their throats. Her hands also fought, tearing into some soldiers’ chests and ripping off their hearts.
“Monster! Monster!” They started to retreat and runaway scared.
Amy couldn’t let them get away. Not after what they had done. They deserved no second chances. Only death. By the time they reached the door, she appeared in front of them.
“Leave… no… survivors!” She yelled, mocking their chant. Her hands were engulfed by fire and she send blasts in their direction. She stood and watched while it consumed their bodies.
As they silenced, she closed her eyes. She could sense a couple of human heartbeats coming from behind the bar. Taking Jax’s katana, she slowly walked to them. They barely had any time to scream. The blood spraying from their slit throats soaked her skin and her clothes. She fed herself some of it, before going back to Jax unconscious body.
She kneeled right beside him, placing her hands over the wound. And that’s the last thing she did, before collapsing in exhaustion.

Note
(Tarot: Celtic Cross) A pale Xaela wearing a pale face scarf wanders up, cards stashed at her side, her hands raised to sign; it appears this Xaela did not talk. “Hello, Una’to. We have not met before, but...well...” A soft laugh followed by a bow. “I’m Shieda, pointed to your path by the thespian and the shadowdancer. To you, I extend a question, for my path is unclear: what should I do next, for too many storms have crashed to simply just be bad luck. And in return, I offer my own cards.”
It takes a long moment for Una’to to parse what Shieda is conveying to him, he’s never been particularly apt at reading sign. Never mind using it himself when his way of words is that of circles spoken aloud. A curious hum leaves him as he ponders how many people Frey has told about him in some capacity. “Seems I’ve a reputation should you have heard of me from both parties in some capacity. And what luck to find me when I’m due to leave this city soon. Perhaps less luck and other factors. I’ll gladly read your cards in exchange for a reading from you and yours”. With that he unwraps his deck from it’s cloth, places the cloth before him, and starts to shuffle. Hiding some measure of minor discomfort with Shieda, something instinctual or subconsciously learned making him wary of her. No matter though.
Some moments later, that feel like they stretch on for an eternity, Una’to lays the ten cards out, their faces all skyward, and pours over them briefly. The eye under his hair flicking about as he reads. “First, the main issue that is at hand that plays into all the other cards. Rather than ill luck it seems that there are issues stemming from manipulation, moodiness, and trickery. While emotions in others are understood by this character they are being used to cause strife or the control upon them is slipping away allowing for conflicts that throw you off course to arise, even if unknown to you. The waters in the rulers cup are dark, and their depth unknown. An ocean of emotions as a microcosm,” he starts, tapping the vertically aligned card of the cross in the center of the spread, buried under another laying horizontally.
He then moves to tap the card resting over the heart. “This is the challenge you are facing specifically that don’t allow for a resolution at present. Until this is resolved you will not see the heart of the issue as being passed. In this place is fulfillment, harmony, and completion. The perfect end of a cycle that marks a great change in the direction of your roads. Life changing in it’s path. The inner and outer realms will need to attain harmony, bringing you understanding. Something must be completed here, that is joyous and celebrated. Perhaps in a simpler reading the emotions that are being used to sew discontent would be to blame, as holding on to them would slow your progress to this resolution. Emotions are fickle and hard to control though. Either way, something is meant to be brought to it’s happy end, and it very well may lie within you”. The words leave him in a near sigh with a wistful smile.
With care, he moves to the card below the center cross, and closest to him, tapping it’s face. “Your unconscious. How you feel about the that which causes you so much issue. The hidden emotions. Perhaps the ones hidden in that cup that allow for conflict to breed. In this place is a card with the meanings of action, adventure, and fearlessness. The archetype here is one of action that manifests an idea in passionate pursuit of a vision you carry. This focus makes you single minded and thus brash and impulsive, overall unrealistic. There is a need here to stop for a moment, reign the passion in and think clearly on what may arise from your actions and is actually doable”.
Without waiting he taps the next card, up to his left diagonally. “The past then comes in to play. What you are carrying with you from it that have created the current turbulent situation you are in at present. There is victory, success, and public reward from your past that seems to impact the present. A passionate battle that was tough, but met with a well deserved celebration of your victory. It brought you recognition. Which can of course cause issues. Others may know of you by this deed and thus it attracts trouble to you, making your emotions overflow with dark waters and stealing balance from you. On the other hand perhaps you expect the current situations to be much more like those of the past that you overcame. You overcame hard times before, and now should be no different, but maybe it’s not and their is frustration in not meeting your expectations set by the past and it’s accolades,” he says with a small shrug. He only has intuition to go off of with Shieda after all. No clues to tie the messy threads of fate together in a neat story.
He moves once more tapping the top most card of the circle. “This is your conscious, a partner to the heart of the issue with the card drawn here. This place is how you see the situation. Your convictions and thoughts on it bleeding over into what your beliefs in this reading. In this place is compassion, calm, and comfort. There is a nurturing nature that grows from compassion, allowing you to understand the emotions of others. Perhaps it’s that understanding that allows the problem to continue should you also be prone to moments of cruelty and manipulation as our first card implies. Though this card says that you are usually prone to generosity and kindness. It may not always be wanted by the receiving party however. Otherwise these are the things you expect from this reading rather than how you see the situation. I can’t say as you have far more pieces than I and I am but a hapless messenger of the roads”. A wistful smile graces his features for just a moment before shifting back to his normal sly and curious mask.
Tapping the last card of the circle he hums out curiously. “In stark contrast the future shoots down the conscious. These are the influences to come that will change how you see the situation, and developing concerns you are having. This card, like what you must overcome is of a road changing importance. Another way marker at a fork or perilous bend. Judgement is lacking here. Self-awareness no where to be found, rising doubt, and self-loathing found. Upon self reflection you may find you don’t see the whole of the picture, or the issues at present that seem more than bad luck stemming from those dark waters in the cup rising. In their reflection, you, but something you dislike. But not reality as the waters are warped, making you far too harsh on yourself. Remember your worth, who you really are, and perhaps you can avoid this future as things stand. Given your conscious at present, I think it safe to say something rather unpleasant is on the way to make you think this but remember, the reflection in the dark waters lie like pretty silver tongues akin to knives that cut you,” he says cryptically, if not dramatically, that smile still plastered on his features.
“We are now down to the more personal final four of this reading”. He taps the closest card to him that makes up the row on the side. “This is you, to put it simply. How you are approaching the heart of the problem. How your beliefs and fears are impacting the outcome approaching from the horizon. Your methods are complex, and seem to be founded in the belief of being perceptive and clear minded. Wit as sharp as a sword. However, this approach can be more cold-hearted than it is compassionate. Despite your unconcious being passionate and head strong it seems you think yourself organized and analytical. Think hard on this I think, as there constant messages in the greater reading that conflict with one another regarding you. Look inside for the conflicts of self”. The reading is starting to feel easier, more like performing as a mouth piece for the roads than anything else. He mentally shrugs it off as being out of practice with larger readings.
“Next is the environment you have to operate within as you navigate this problem,” he starts, moving up the row with his revealed eye. “You need to work around emotional baggage, either that which is your own or from others, I can’t say. In these bags are unresolved issues and resisting transition or changes that are truly necessary for things to be resolved. The bags are in the way of moving forward from something truly damaging, what or who these bags are I know not. There is no kindness in the place you are leaving, the past environment perhaps or the issue you are trying to move from, but you are finding it difficult to part ways with them yet. A tough situation indeed, there’s work to be done to reach your exit so you don’t drown,” he hums out with a small pout, finally breaking that smile. His face goes neutral as he moves to the second to last card.
“Your hopes and fears. What you expect to come from your situation. In some cases the hopes or fears you have most regarding this reading. Work life imbalance and smothering are represented here. The former creates friction between what work demands of you and the needs you have outside of it. Rather than work in a literal sense, I think it may mean the work you may need to put in for a resolution that’s agreeable to you. So much so that this work is never met in a way that completes it as you have to also focus on your needs outside the problem. Neither receive the attention they need in turn. Thus the card implores you to look and re-balance things so you do not drown”. He stretches slightly then. The reading is almost over but he can feel his muscles starting to lock up from pouring over the cards so intently, picking out every meaning he can see to throw to Shieda.
Finally, he picks up the last card, showing it to her. A single skull cup full and overflowing with flowers. “The outcome. Where this road ends after all pieces of this map I have given you come into play. The card here is one of new love, not of a person strictly speaking of course. Overflowing feelings, as has been the focus of this reading in many aspects, and the rise of creativity. It is a new beginning should you escape that which drags you down, those bags blocking your way and the emotions that do you no good give birth to new ones. Emotional fulfillment comes with this new perspective born of love and creativity. There is joy to be found in sharing these emotions, and receiving them in return”.
With that he collapses the spread on itself, returning all the cards back into his deck with an unreadable smile. “There’s quite a lot that was said, but I feel like the thread of your map tied off rather nicely with a complete story to follow. The map is of course yours to do with as you please now, so you may change the story to come however you see fit. Rather apt there was so much water when you called what has passed storms. Humor me if you will, did that help you at all?”
Thank you for the ask @woaowcat! I generally avoided describing all the cards since I knew this would end up much longer if I did, but I got a picture of the spread if you would like me to send it your way!
#woaowcat#thank you so much for the wait#once I'm not a space cadet I'll make a tag for these two interacting#my brain is mush

“Stagnation is but a choice. Me? I chose to evolve. I chose to devour.” -Sangria
General Info:
Name: Sangria Aeternum (Previously Gemini, a surname she had chosen for herself, by herself) Title: The Spear of Eternity Occupation: [REDACTED] Race: Immortal Slayer Gender: Hermaphrodite Height: 198 cm Morality Alignment: Neutral Evil Eye Color: Yellow, with Red Rings. However, eyes sometimes go full red. Hair Color: Red, Redwood (depending on lighting) Misc: Dresses sharply most of the time, nowadays.
Personality;
Upon making her presence known once more, it was obvious that Sangria’s disposition has taken a sharp change from her previous self. While the cockiness and aloofness are still there, her charisma has taken even larger improvement than before. However, such engaging personality is simply a front Sangria uses nowadays.
What lies behind the mask the Immortal Slayer had put upon herself is an individual that exudes selfishness, something unseen from herself back then. So long as it benefits her in the end point, she’d be very much compliant.
While she’s quick to help allies, she’s also very much quick to betray them, should the gain she would obtain from doing so would outweigh the gain she would have obtained helping them. An action, that which, has no personal ties to it, but instead, is based upon self-serving reasons, and very rarely for malicious purposes.
Thus, she is also one who isn’t quick to help now, unless the benefits she would gain afterward would be of much interest and convenience to her.
Additionally, unlike her previous self, Sangria is more prone on using lies and deceit, or even the manipulation of the truth, to sway things to her favor, as well.
She, however, still thinks highly of Chione and Aura to some extent, granted due to the fact that she owes her existence to the both of them. However, after many, uncountable years of neglect from the both of them, her respect for them has diminished several good notches down.
Background;
It was no secret that Sangria is the creation of Aura and Chione. A breed of an Immortal Slayer that was technically made, and not naturally born, but was given a soul to be made as genuine as can be. It was also no secret that the Immortal Slayers was once used as a deterrent for individuals that cannot be killed via any normal, convenient means. They used to be, after all, the one-all, be-all solution against such individuals, and immortals alike.
But alas, time brought upon change. Time brought upon change. More means to eradicate immortals and unkillable beings have either been discovered, or re-discovered. There was also a limit on an Immortal Slayer’s functionality, and that is the inability to genuinely kill anyone from the higher Vacosian Heirarchy. The only ones fit to do the job on that end was the Divine Keys, and quickly so, said weapons became the new one-all, be-all deterrent.
Simply put, due to underperformance and being overshadowed by something far more superior, the Immortal Slayers were eventually not used again.
That would be alright, very much understood, had it not been for the added neglect.
And neglect brings upon stagnation.
Sangria, herself, had seen this. She, along with the youngest Immortal Slayer, the one which Aura created on her own, the Scythe of Ruination, Heather, had seen this. Stagnation led to them becoming weaker as the rest of reality became stronger. They never changed, while others did.
Neglect brings upon stagnation, and stagnation breeds weakness.
And being stagnant would mean that they would eventually be forgotten, if they haven’t already been forgotten, to begin with.
Alas, death is one thing, but being forgotten is a fate worse than death.
But at the same time, stagnation also brought upon one factor. One constant.
Hunger.
And thus, Sangria did what she knew, or rather, believed the best possible solution to fight off such stagnation.
That is to evolve. To change as well.
While it was initially of heavy heart at the time, she had absorbed the essences of the other weaker Immortal Slayers to her own, giving her more strength, made her more powerful. Consequentially, she had to also do such on Khalkotauroi and Yuki-Onna, weapons that used to simply be Chione’s heirloom scythes turned Immortal Slayers. To Sangria, this is the better option, than to see them waste away, and some having consumed by the fear of being forgotten.
Thus, she and Heather would part ways, afterward, as them honing themselves together basically meant that they would just be in the way of the other.
Moving on to present time, after years upon years of what she considers as ‘consuming’ to get stronger, and to evolve, Sangria changed. While she’s far different than what or who she used to be, she had grown much more powerful during that time.
Effectively so, she had reached the very limits, the very ceiling of an Immortal Slayer’s power, and also effectively broke through it, her power now transcending Immortal Slayers as a whole.
Aside from Heather, Sangria knows another pair that very much had grown in power, too.
Maybe one day, they’d see each other again.
Trivia:
-Despite her physical change on her humanoid form, her Immortal Slayer physiology hasn’t changed a bit. She still has the properties of a standard Immortal Slayer, what with being able to inflict wounds that either slows down, or completely negates regeneration, depending on the individual’s regeneration strength and speed, and at the same time, said injury from Sangria, herself, would worsen and enlarge themselves, over time, as well.
Strikes from her usually ignores almost every conventional form of defense or augmentation, as well. And while its very much the same, its far more stronger now, so to speak.
While she can’t still be able to kill any of the higher hierarchy Vacosians, she can at least, now disrupt their regenerative qualities, either delaying or slowing down their healing effectiveness for a time, but not completely stopping them.
-She doesn’t need to wield a physical manifestation of her own weapon form in combat anymore. Simply put, her body, itself, is now the spear. She is now her own weapon, in the truest sense of the word. Thus, each strike from her fists, feet, or any part of her body, in particular, would be as equivalent from being struck by her in her weapon form, with all the side effects received from being hit by such. Hence, her saying she’s fighting ‘hand-to-hand’ more at this point is technically a blatant lie.
-Sangria’s sense of fashion has changed as well. Most of the time, she’s seen dressed sharply.
-Sangria also seem to have become cognitohazardous. On her weapon form, she’s very compelling to those who aren’t Vacosians, easily coaxing them to wield her for whatever goal they have in mind. But alas, they, in turn, fall exactly where she want them to, taking from them whatever would benefit her most in the long run.
In her human form, this helps with her charisma and silver tongue, as well, able to coax people with her words and lies with relative ease.
-Sangria’s powers have also grown vastly, what with selfishly taking abilities from others, yet also making sure she develops said abilities and techniques into something new, something unique only to her, thus effectively making them original to herself.
Unlike how she obtains the powers from others before, she simply needs to either wound them, or kill them.
-During some time, Sangria changed several portions of herself. For instance, she had changed her surname to Aeternum, while her title was changed into the “Spear of Eternity”. Such is now a symbolism that she is not tied to Chione and Aura much, anymore, despite them being her creators.
-Sangria’s weapon form also changed in appearance as well. Or rather, it had gained a new form of appearance it can take when she’s on such form. She can still either look like her standard weapon form appearance, or she can look more imposing, more sharp, more deadlier.
A twisted spear, pointing on two directions, a symbolism that Sangria nowadays is but a weapon pointing at both sides now, what with the constant of her switching sides being very much there. It is always to note that her doing such is always nothing personal, however, as so long as it serves herself, and she reaps great benefits, she'd either do the aforementioned above, or actually stick to one side, if the benefits would satisfy her enough as to be compliant enough.
-Another thing to note is the evolution of her fighting style and how it affects things around her, especially the boundaries of causality. Each attack and strike she does, be it as herself on her humanoid form, or her in her weapon form, bends causality in a way that she severs most of the unfavorable possibilities in which her attacks “miss”, and keeps the absolute possibility in which her attacks would “hit”.
For beings that aren’t Vacosians, or aren’t in level with Vacosians, her attacks would mostly, if not all the time, make contact. However, against Vacosians, or those that are in level with Vacosians in terms of power, more specifically, the higher hierarchy, this won’t be too much of a case, as such beings can fight through such causality manipulating effect. Thus, against beings of such caliber would Sangria only put in some actual proper effort into her fights, and not rely on such ability.

Cast:
[ L.K ] - Lazarius Kashebahl, Marseille, Raelyndia Duskhollow
[ P.K ] - Kretus Dark
[ V.D ] - Verzatea Duskflame, Pame Myl’Brin
[ J ] - Jursol, Jimba, Mawa
[ T ] - Talisin aka The Boy
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[ J ] Jursol was luckily focused on Lazarius after seeing him alive. Hearing his words she knew exactly what he planned to do, and moved to action fast. Making sure the golem was in the right place at the right time. Her eyes grew wide with a mix of excitement and fear for him as the golem launched him with force.
Her eyes followed him closely as she herself rushed towards him. Kicking blood up as she dashed. With a leap into air, her large clawed hand reaching to grab him. She pulled him close as she tucked him under her arm, as they landed a thud likely was heard. Jursol did whatever she could to protect him as they landed.
[ V . D ] Amid the chaos, having provided what aid she could to the others, Verzatea had put the majority of her focus on the young boy whom was surely dazed and terrified of the horrific setting he'd been forced into. Tea had made an effort to comfort him by hugging her free arm about the child, whispering kindly and reassuring words as she kept his head low to prevent him from getting hit, shield his smaller body with her own.
Though she watched. Observed as the epic moments of their lives played out before them. She'd quietly marvel the strength of their numbers, the protectiveness and desire to survive they each held... Awe inspiring, especially the blade brandished in a display of pure awesomeness.
Pame remained protecting the body of their wounded shaldorei, often swinging and slashing swords to ward off bodies that stumbled too close in the excitement of the golem's destructive path. She'd grit her teeth at the unmistakable sound of glass cracking under pressure and splintering.
Whilst copying Verzatea, both women tuck the faces of their charges into their shoulders before burying their faces into the person's shoulder, both bracing and protecting their faces from the wash of blood spilling from the tank. The sudden crash and thud of bodies landing would cause both women to snap to attention after a second of wading the spilling roar of rushing blood, and while
Pame visibly flinched as her sensitive ears endured the screeching roars of disdain overhead... Verzatea did not even blink. Instead she focused on the bodies of the elf and troll, her concern skyrocketing as she calls to them,
"Are you two alright?"
“The moment has come.”
[ L. K ] Raelyndias voice spread across the cavernous interior as she felt the blood leaving the vat. Her own motives now becoming realized to them as Lazarius sat up in Jursols arms. The troll had saved him again.
“Released from this capsule, you have done my bidding once more Serpent.”
The nickname caught the ears of the inquisitor as he snarled and rolled to his feet. His black pools seething as he glared toward the tank.
“You have no body! No vessel! You cannot inhabit one of our own; I have seen to that! Our talismans prevent possession after the fall of De’Mour!”
He was not lying, a secondary fail safe to prohibit such things like a Nathrezim attempting to inhabit one of them was now a countermeasure in the talisman.
“The magi; ah. . .yes, . . . you have condemned their offspring to an eternity of hell; as you have secured the fate of all who inhabit this place and my home....”
As the essence began to pour from the containment unit Lazarius pulled the eye he’d been saving and focused it toward the tank.
“And this?”
He screamed at the nothingness.
“Answer me! What was this? I have bested you again Raelyndia!”
Lazarius waited as the screeching was over and the blood contaminate poured into the already messy floor.
“That was the bait...my child.”
Those words suddenly caused Lazarius’ spine to stiffen. His eyelids widened as he peered around the room. His grip on the eye tightening while he grew more impatient.
“Bait for what!?”
He howled into the dark red light.
“To lure you here and reclaim what is rightfully mine...”.
Raelyndia spoke confidently as she cackled behind her words.
“The Bastille is defenseless. You....are defenseless.”
Lazarius had raced back to the tank and was screaming at the leeching fluid as it poured onto his boots.
“And you think I came here without my own intentions!”
The dark eyed mad man suddenly slammed the eye into the hole he had created in the tank.
His wild gaze would cause his eyes to ignite in the venomous fluid like state when he began to lose himself.
“How much energy did it take for you to manifest here Raelyndia? Planning is everything. You taught me that! So I planned! And I extracted and I tore through the depths of space and time. You may have the ability to resurrect this form but I have the sense to know exactly what it takes to stop you!”
He slammed his fist into the eye and it would suddenly widen inside the tank into a doorway that buzzed and tore through the room with a violent crackle of electricity and buzzing.
The view from their vantage would be that of a complete mind bending twisting nonsensical dream. Inside the gateway produced from the eye and the tank, they could see a massive NRaqi being destroyed, and the figure dismembering it was a blur of violent purple and mist.
Beside the killed old god minion was a man, a man they all knew very well. Lazarius was laying covered in his own blood on the ground, he was peering up at them.
And beside the portal was their Lazarius.
“Time to go...Pame get Marseille on his feet, Verzatea...the boy....Jursol, I want that golem breaking that door down by the time I get back...”
And with that the image faded and Lazarius stepped through the gateway, it turned into a pure black mist. He was gone and the sounds of Raelyndias cackles went deeper and deeper into the room as if she was growing in power.
[ J ] Jursol stood silent and confused as she watch what was going down. The loud sounds hitting her ears like nails on a chalkboard cause her, and the raptors, to snarl and growl. Only thing that snapped her back was the voice o Lazarius orders to take down the door. Jursol gave a bow of her head as she readied herself to destroy the door.
“Loa protect....”
She said to herself as she focused her energy into the golem. Ya massive body moved towards the target door as it began to slam into it. Over and over again. It was relentless in its assault.
“Mawa!!!”
Jursol yelled as she looked back at the raptor that was still near the boy.
“PROTECT DA BOY!!!”
Mawa growled and screeched as it followed orders. The other raptors moved to protect Jursol, one moved to Mars and Pame to help.
“THISTH IS DOCTOR WHISTHLETORQUE! Listen to me! I hope thisth isth working...Verzatea! Anyone who can hear thisth! Do not return to the Basthtille. Raelyndia isth here! She isn’t trying to rebirth her body she isth trying to take control of t———”
[ L. K ] The gnomes voice cut out as their talismans all began to glow with a horrible red energy. The force of power that was growing within it was resonating a massive field of dark energy. And in a few moments more; every talisman that was associated with The Nine burst into a cinder of ash. They were gone, destroyed by the power within.
[ V . D ] Gently Verzatea gathered the child's arms into her soft hands, helping him up rather than violently pulling him to his feet.
"Fret not dear,"
Tea assured the boy,
"We're nearing the end- Violent or peaceful, it will come-- Consider this your first lesson,"
She remarks, trying to rouse him back to reality by forcing their eyes to meet as she imparts a bit of wisdom,
"Never dawdle. Always keep moving when in a hostile situation. Fate can be changed with confidence."
Beside the sindorei woman and younger boy, the kaldorei was currently heaving the wounded shaldorei up and onto his feet. His good arm had been slung over her shoulder thus to carry the majority of his weight. Her second arm, besides the one clutching the shaldoreis hand to keep his arm pinned around her shoulders, hugged his waist and ensured he'd not topple over in case he couldn't keep his balance.
Even if she had to drag him out of there, she'd do so. But if he could stay on his feet she'd make certain he did to keep him active and awake. In this state he could have slipped into a coma with how damaged and worn his body had been by the assaults. Thus she carried most of the weight, as not to strain him to the point of total exhaustion that he'd faint and fall unconscious.
With the reassuring snarls and cries of her raptors, and the calming notion that they would have protection in these vulnerable states-- Until the frantic squeaks of the doctor entered the air... Verzatea's face paled with the creeping sense of fear for all who remained at the Bastille.
Pame would instantly start to rouse the Confessor from what dark thoughts crept into Teas mind, assuring that Siida remained and would protect everyone. Because that's the kinda woman Siida is. That’s who the Kashe'bahls were.
"Trust,"
Pame pressed, her confidence in their people stronger than her fear for the moment,
"We'll see victory soon enough."
Because even if they all died here and now, Pame trusted it wouldn't be in vain. But until then they'd fight as if death wasn't a possibility.
With deep and calming practiced breathes would Tea begin to focus on the situation at hand. Of course the well being of those left in the Bastille at the start of their journey was a great concern to Verza, and she vehemently scolded herself for not ensuring the Bastille was fully prepared and protected to withstand an assault from Rae.
But she couldn't focus too hard on the what ifs with everything at hand. She couldn't distract herself with the worry-- She'd indulge her concerned once they escaped this tomb.
[ J ] Jursol heard a voice over the chaos as she tried to listen in. She glanced to the others to see how they were doing as the golem kept at the door.
Her focus was still on getting the door down, and to see Lazarius return alive. No matter what was going on they had to get out. Her raptors did all they could as well to help at this time of need.
“The death of The Nine is now. This is the beginning. You shall witness our true purpose, blessed be... NZoth....”
[ L . K ] Just as the words rang through the chamber, the surge of energy that burst from Northrend had struck Verzatea directly in her heart. She knew just as Lazarius did; the Bastille hadnt crumbled, but was no longer itself.
As Confessor she felt the shift and dominant power of that last drop of blood coming from the tank, she felt Raelyndia leave this place. And she felt the change. Their home was gone.
The sounds from the outside world soon caused them to shift their attentions again. Worms and agents of the old god had been alerted to their position. They would be coming for them if they did not move as quick as possible.
Seconds later Lazarius had emerged from the dark portal as it closed behind him. He was unharmed and completely normal save for one very interesting fact. In his arms he was holding a beautiful crimson haired woman; she was covered in black blood and stained in the battle from earlier.
She was only clothed in her bra and underwear appearing to have been wrapped by Lazarius in a cloth of some sort to conceal her. She was not conscious and he glanced around just as Jursol had managed to get the door cracked open.
“We’ve got to move now...I suggest before everything in the nether knows we are here...”.
At that moment he felt the lose of the Bastille against his chest, he nearly dropped Ray. His eyes darting to Verza to understand what had happened. He was wrong...
[ V . D ] The emergence of Lazarius and the woman went unnoticed by Verzatea. She had felt the tightness in her chest which toom her breath away, levaing her in a state of paralyzing agony as what wards and sigils of protection she had set up slowly unraveled.
She could feel as an abyss filled the connection with the Bastille, what hold she had on its inner systems and fenses fading into nothing. The cackles in the distance only fueled the agony she felt, such a strange and empty feeling... It caused genuine tears of mourn to tumble down her pale cheeks, the hold she had on the boy loosening some as she sobbed quietly.
She did meet Lazarius's gaze after a pause, her fears swarming into her eyes before she could help it.
"Now,"
She whispers shakily in agreement, her eyes peering from the woman in Lazarius's arms to Marseille, then down to the boy before she'd smile through her tears. For now they certainly had plenty to live for in this tomb, and it was enough to keep Tea from plunging into the darkness of doubt and loathing.
"We leave now,"
Pame agrees firmly, her eyes moving to inspect Jursols well being whilst adjusting her hold on Mars. After all this she'd begin wading through the blood to tighten the ranks. Verzatea clutched the boy closer, whether he wanted her to touch him or not. But by the heavens, she refused to lose anyone else if she could help it. She was ready. Pame was ready. The time was nigh.
[ L. K ] He had one final push up to help drive him through this nightmare. He would wait for Jursol to break down the large door at the end of the hall as the group of them moved closer to her. Lazarius held tightly to the injured ginger hair girl, Verza clinging to the young boy and Pame aiding her fellow Shade.
[ J ] Jursol had been overly focused on downing the door, her energy grew low but she was not giving up. A nudge of her raptor gave her the will to press on. Her eyes ran back and forth from where Lazarius had gone, to the door they had to get down.
“Loa, I not be givin up!”
Her voice full of determination as she yelled like a crazed Amazon. Suddenly she heard Lazarius voice as she turned swiftly to see him holding a strange woman. Her concerns would have to wait. The sound of more enemies coming for them grew louder. Knowing now there was not likely a place to return, she wondered for a moment what they would do. However asking could wait till they were free.
BOOM!
She managed to get the door down with the golem just as they poured in. The group managed to get out just in time. With the massive head gone from where it was before, they had a perfect chance to run. Jursol and her raptors remained near the others as they all followed each other.

Fanwalker’s Friends
Some of my fanwalkers are fleshed out enough to have friends or family. Or allies. Or conspiring forces acting somewhat in their favour.
Xand, of course, was in a gang. A small, five person gang, perhaps the minimum of a gang, but a gang none the less. While their days of reckless mischeif are over, they still find time between guild work for reckful mischeif, gossip, and some of that good wine from down in the Undercity.
The stand out member of this group is Vasilisa, a red skinned and black haired (snaked?) gorgon, who dresses more like a member of a biker gang than a member of the Cult of Rakdos. Lacking the standard petrifying gaze, Vasilisa instead has the ability to ignite anything she can see, which is as useful on the stage as it is on in a brawl. While not a permanent member of any Rakdos troupes, Vasilisa brings a certain fire to any show she appears in, and enables spectacles other performers could only dream of.
Off to the side, but always willing to have a conversation is Nikolai. This Golgari devkarin believes that everyone has a place where they’re at their best, and furthermore, that everyone should try to get there. He believes in the power of making connections, and always seems know the right person for a problem. Whether it’s naturally aged wine, tickets to an Ozhov party, or just a recommendation for a Rakdos show that won’t end in fatalities, Nikolai can get you what you need. And in return? Well, you see, he’s got a friend with a problem, and he’d like to make an introduction. Everyone benefits, and so everyone is happy.
The closest person to a voice of reason, at least until the fighting breaks out, is Katherine. She often gets a few second looks, since Vedalken usually aren’t members of the Boros Legion. While certainly an off-beat career choice, Katherine is good at it, and is a surprisingly decisive brawler, who is often the one putting people out of commission. While her martial abilities have gotten her so far in the Legion, her rank is effectively capped as long as she keeps associating with “dangerous and manic hooligans“. Which suits Katherine just fine - she’s never been one for paperwork, and if she advances any further, the higher ups are going to start asking her to actually do it before the cases go to trial.
Finally, there’s Skrza. This little demon has big ambitions, but for now he’s happy doing a series of satire shows, which look to jab a blade into the heart of Ravnica society. Metaphorically. In a fight, Skrza prefers to hit people with his marotte, which just happens to be covered in spikes. There’s never a time when he’s not being a menace to polite society, but he does it in a way that’s never quite illegal. Plenty of attempts have been made to crack down on Skrza’s unflattering routines on the guilds, but when you know a Boros captain, a devkarin with unusal connections, and an arsonally talented gorgon, you find ways to make a show pop up out of nowhere, and disappear just as quickly.
Occationally, Alagard seems to escape from situations in ways that are positively implausible. Or, more likely, fall into them in ways that one might call negatively implausible. These bouts of (mis)fortune are due to the attention of Xelia, Elder Faerie and self-crowned Queen of Fate. Not that anyone wishes to challenge her for the title, lest their ventures fail in increasingly unlikely ways.
Xelia can see the many ways the future might occur, like an endless tapestry unwinding before her. She knows how likely it is that any thread might become reality, and how she might bend and twist probabiliy so that outcomes she desires are the true future. Yet for all her foresight, Xelia is also fickle, willingly blinding herself to what might be in order to better enjoy what is. And unlike some who dabble in fate, Xelia relishes in the application of chaos, always trying to find the smallest change of fortune with the greatest ripples.
Yet in spite of all her abilities, one achievement eludes Xelia. No matter what she tries, it seems she cannot arrange for a planeswalker’s spark to ignite. There’s something about the moment of ignition that makes it an impossible needle to thread. Xelia can, to an extent, manipulate where on Orpheri a planeswalker might arrive, but this mostly involves nudging them towards or away from her realm. She’d be able to do more if she weren’t emitting a constant “No Skath” aura around her realm. Xelia doesn’t want the nagas to find out where she lives, for some reason. (You can ask why, provided you never want to gamble again.)
The actual relationship between Alagard and Xelia is... not great, with Alagard being perfectly happy to gripe about it in Xelia’s presence. Xelia finds this an amusing distraction, because you know, Fae are like that.
On Ithmorne, there’s a woman named Annabelle who has a nice, safe job in the Imperial Capital. She’s in a happy (and decidedly romantic) relationship with Galina, who occationally expresses aspects of her pre-trauma personality when they’re together. Anna worries that Galina is pushing herself a little too hard, and doesn’t always approve of her methods.
Locke’s ex is the bartender at one of the few decent bars in the city. But they’re both reasonable men, and the break up was mutual, so there’s not really any drama there. Sometimes, realationships don’t suddenly collapse for strange contrived reasons.
Velos is part of a family that’s a little infamous for guild-hopping. He’s got a cousin in the Azorius, an uncle in the Gruul, and quite a few relatives in the Selesyna, only a few of which had to be estranged. Family reunions are hectic, but thankfully tend to be free from guild-based violence.
To the surprise and concern of most people, Aster has a wife. Learning that she chose to marry him does not tend to alleviate these feelings. Especially since Aster recounts the meeting to marriage story in a way that’s more disturbing than romantic. Yet his “dear Eleador“ is one of the few people in the multiverse he actually cares about, proving that even someone you think is The Worst is actually not.
Eleador is fair skinned and silver haired, and seems to be serenely calm. Born under a particularly worrying celestial configuration, her father decided to do the irrational thing and severly limit her contact with unapproved people. Aster met her by chance anyway, because apparently keeping track of your potenially doom-bringing daughter was too difficult for her father. Eleador’s family claim that Aster corrupted their “sweet, pure child“, while Aster contends (correctly) that she was never as innocent as they believed, and had simply been kept from desiring anything enough to lash out.
Eleador’s family’s solution to her associating with a inappropriately star-signed man who brought her strange gifts was to marry her to a more suitable candidate. In their haste, they picked a date that was not a good day for weddings in general, and specifically a bad day for Eleador to get married. Given that Zodyas is a plane where astrology works, this was very foolish of them. In the end, Aster crashed the wedding, quite a few people died, including the would-be groom, most of the security, and Eleador’s father. Who was actually murdered by his daughter-in-law, which was quite unpredicted.

The Anfa’bif Pantheon
Prime: The Primordial Beasts
The Anfa’bif is the polytheistic pantheon of the Feraftas faiths and has come far beyond the malefic inspiration from the twisted Warp. Many of the additional aspects have come from associations in local myths and legends which had survived since the Imperial Occupations. Other elements have been imported with external populations which have enrolled into the Unbound Empire, such as Beastmen bringing the Great Horned One.
While some groups believe that the deities have a hand in the creation of reality as is perceived, the Everchosen’s Word refers to them being born alongside life and civilisation with them evolving as life has.
The gods themselves are divided into three primary castes, based on their power and prominence.
The deities and their castes are as follows;
Primordia Beastii
At the very core of the faith itself, the Primordia Beastii are the twin deities which represent the polarising nature of reality. From their radical differences, they have been locked in an eternal conflict which was from before and will last long after Time itself.
The Chimera
Aspects of Creation and Order rolled in together, the giant beast manipulates the reality around it with the ultimate will to exert control over all existence itself. Within a wider effect, The Chimera’s effects are what drives life towards patterns and rules, coexistence and logic.
Dictating creation, it is no wonder that its form is ever changing, moving to befit the changing desires of the deity.
The Jackal
The God of Anarchy and Destruction appears much more simplistic at initial examination. The Jackal appears to be focused on the simple counteraction to any Chimerica action but takes many more unexpected avenues in their actions without being able to cause any permanent effects unto its foe. The ultimate will of the Jackalian lord is the drive reality back to a state even before its own existence.
Where the Chimera’s influence grants order to existence, the Jackal’s is one of freedom and personality but also the breaking of the principles of domination from its fundamental bond with reality.
---
Beastia Majoris
The Beastia Majoris are those which have spawned from the aspects of life. While sometimes emotional in nature, these aspects are considered universal truths and are a fusion of the Order and Chaos at the root of reality.
The Beastia Majoris, in their order of relative ages, are as follows;
Helgin, The Hound
Said to be the First Born of the Gods, The Great Hound came from the mixed blood of the Primordials.
Having been birthed from the turmoil of reality, the Helgin has become the Patron for the aspects of conflict in existence. Struggles to survive, Conflicts between individuals, groups and ideas.
Brog, The Toad
With the first known lull in the Timeless War, The Toad formed as a being of rest and healing. While outwardly appearing sedentary, Brog found and kindled familial bonds between itself and its parents, despite their wills for one another. Kinship was found further with other beings of the aether and the reflected imprint from mortal life.
When their lull broke down again, Brog was only saved from destruction by the Helgin with who which the strongest bond was formed.
Rân, The Crow
As reality bend and broke under the Jackal’s new actions, power seeped ever more into the world of the mortals. The Crow was the byproduct from these rifts in reality and as aetheric energies permeating the mortal planes increased.
Threads of fate began to from from the Chimera and to prevent these being used by the Mantle of Domination they were stolen by Rân. Preventing their use by any other being at large, it wove an eldritch web of destiny which could never be seen in its entirety.
Using this connection, the Crow feeds power of the aether into being and objects which would soon become magic in its forms.
Eyr, The Eagle
More dispersed than others, the Eagle is one of the youngest known deities of major power and is the hybridisation of the intentions multiple
The aspects of perfection came from the mortal reflections within the Aether. A grand civilization grew tall and brought with it the Chimeric desire to perfect their will unto their domain.
Pleasure became a more prominent aspect from the rise in minor civilisations. As they didn’t have as grandiose intentions, their own happiness became more important and they imprinted this wish.
Where the Toad is joy in existence, the Eagle is joy in action.
---
Deus Minoris
The Deus Majoris are those which are tied to the more subtle aspects of reality. These can tie with the aspects of grander deities, leading to some belief of them being children of the more powerful entities.
Anfilain, The Great Horned Goddess
Anfilain is the prime Goddess of the Wild and Nature at its more elemental core. She embodies all within life from the adaptation to new habitats, the nurturing of young to grant further life, to the preatory hunt of prey.
Some take her aspects to imply that she was the being to have ultimately seeded life as is understood, where others just see her as a personification of the existence of life.
Uniquely for the pantheon, her patrons are not those of specific trades or traditions but more how they are intune with their personal, natural origins. Her origins within beastmen dominated societies have lead to a perception of their natural patronage.
Maresh Raiu, The Mortarch Warden
Maresh Raiu is the Guardian of Mortality and Death. Being not the bringer of one’s death, Maresh is considered a primarily benevolent entity as being taken beyond the world of the living is to accompany a greater life, beyond what they achieved.
Being the guide of souls, his power also allows those granted to power to return souls to the living world, as seen with the Damnatorus.
Raiu is the most humanoid of the whole pantheon, discounting the Avatars, with a human appearance with the addition of two skeletal arms which pair with his standard limbs.
Interpretations see him as both the antagonist to or the lover of Anfilain from their contrasting aspects of the perpetuation of life and the inevitable death.
The Aurum Imperius
A splinter from the Chimera, the Imperius embodies the aspects of Order and Control. When granted total dominion, the Aurum attempts to become a force of domination.
When tied to another force, It becomes a symbol of order and enforcement of said order. This has led to the minor deity being an enforcer over the other deities. This has reached down to the worship of It as a symbol of Law and Order.
Within the pantheon, Aurum Imperius has undergone the most evolution. Originally a symbol of tyrannical domination, the gradual influence of Imperial populations has seen It evolve into a power for Order without bias and emotion.
Zhaar, The Crafter
This bull headed deity is the deity of craftsmanship, production in all forms and to a smaller extent the Arts. While socially isolated within the pantheon, his lessons are granted to all that listen and ‘Moments’ can fall those who worship him. These often result in masterpieces of various crafts, but can be socially destructive if mishandled.
Within the Legends of the Everchosen, Zhaar is the craftsmen of their arms and armour in their divine purpose. It is currently unknown when Kallig will be granted these boons.
Ddrana, The Eastern Dragon
Instead of being native to the Aetheric Planes, the Dragon was once a mortal who ascended to being a deific power. Using unknown catalysts, she has become a mistress embodying the aspect of Greed within all forms. Love and social power is as valued to her as material goods.
Despite once having a mortal form, she is now seen in a serpentine draconic form with a tri split tail and secondary maw over her stomach. This mouth is said to have been used to consume the power from others, specialically the Anfilain.
(Pronunciation Note; ‘Dd’ is pronounced as a ‘Th’)
There are other even more minor deities but these are often limited to a single population group. Some examples can be the Thirteen Queens for the Nimah Clan and the Vaemos within Hive Victoria.

CR Crossover Follow-up
C.C.:
I don’t quite remember how it happened. My mind was gone. I felt myself falling- free floating- I don’t know how to describe it, but what I do know was that I had a power beyond my comprehension flowing through me! I envisioned, which within that dark space of my mind, I could see the worlds within in my hands and I drew them together. I could SEE Xena, my Xena, there within reach as I held out my hand to pull her across the Void. And I believe… [he shakes his head a moment as it was really the only thing left to make sense] I believe in my attempts to pull her out of that hellscape, I instead brought everything else in too. [he starts laughing, a slightly broke and hollow laugh as he looks up at the ceiling before turning to the other two] They tried to tell me you were gone. Not that you were dead, but that those fully taken by the Glitches cannot leave that other world. It would take a miracle. … A miracle…
Xena:
…. That’s not true. [shifts uncomfortably] What about Abe? We… We tried to follow the same path as he did because that’s what was needed to beat The Game. So I could come home.
C.C.:
Except there is no game. And I found out through some of my research that he never did get to escape, even after doing all that They told him to do. It wasn’t until the barrier between the two worlds had corroded through fighting between gods and the spreading of Glitches, and the utter chaos that he and several others were able to cross through. He was freed at the expense that, to my understanding, another boy took his place in that world. [takes deep breath] What we were trying to do might have worked before you were so corrupted by those fiends, but people like you and Fifer, cannot exist properly on this side without becoming a demon yourself. So… so I brought the world to you, I guess.
Xena:
That doesn’t mean you should be ashamed about it. You didn’t know what would happen-
C.C.:
It doesn’t matter, I knew what I was doing.
Xena:
But you were manipulated-
C.C.:
So what?
Xena:
They brainwashed you-
C.C.:
So what?
Xena:
You just said so yourself you had no control as you were doing it.
C.C.:
So what? [shifts in his seat so he can stare her down directly] My reasons and my actions at the time doesn’t matter, just the fact that I did it. Johto and Kanto are now under an eternal winter, Kalos is wrecked beyond recognition. Hoenn now exists in two places at once with the barren wasteland version of our World having been taken over by theives and Glitches and becoming a literal shadow of itself. Time itself may even be in ruins as we’ve had reports of villains not seen since antiquity have sudden appeared in our present! And nothing you can say, nothing we can do, can change the fact that this is all. my. fault.
Hannah:
[arms crossed as she sits back in the chair, taking all this in] Sounds like there may have still been another way. You do realize that we need to share all this with the others since so far we’ve been trying to find out if there’s some Great Evil that caused this mess, and why, and if we can beat, and so forth. If it turns out it’s just you then-
C.C.:
[coldly cuts her off] There IS a Great Evil behind this, and it is THEM.
Hannah:
[Ugh, here we go again] The Voices are not evil, Cesar. They just do things for the sake of doing things, I don’t think they have any real good or bad intensions, they just exist. What happened to you really sucks, and the aftermath of it all sucks especially, but I don’t think they meant for any of this to happen any more than you did.
C.C.:
It’s easy enough for you to say, a fraction of your own power comes from Them but you were able to use it for good. Perhaps They liked you, or perhaps Their actions in Flora was merely setting the stage for later things to come. But you ask Xena, ask Fifer, ask Venus, just how badly their lives have been changed because of these so-called whims of fate you speak of.
Hannah:
…. [trying to come up with a counter, but doesn’t have one. Goes for the snark] What about Y?
Xena:
Never ask Y, he’s a good kid, but I think he enjoys all this just a little too much.
C.C.:
We don’t really know enough about him to know what he was like before we met. And that’s what bothers me. There are plenty of other forces out there right now ready to take advantage of the situation, but I am telling you, it’s only going to get worse. I still need to do more research, to find out what could happened for the seemingly benevolent Voices we heard of in our youth to suddenly appear again and bring pain and corruption to all those touched by Them. Someone is going to get hurt, if it hasn’t happened already. Perhaps I’m not even the only one to face the fate of being given a great power only to have it turn into such devastation. [Thoughtful as he slides off the bed to go up to Hannah] Didn’t you say that Flora has some ancient hidden library with information on the past?
Hannah:
That’s typically what libraries do. Stories and history and other boring stuff. Why?
C.C.:
I need you to take me there. I know you don’t like it, but there could be some valuable information there that could help us. I need to learn more about the Voices so next time I can be sure to be in full control.
Xena:
[Slightly alarmed] Next time?
C.C.:
Now that I have told you both, I am more than certain that my ability to channel that power was no mere fluke. I need to reclaim Their power so I can set the worlds right, but in order to do that I need to learn to bend reality to my will.
Hannah:
No. [crosses arms again as she glares him down] No, Cesar, you don’t. Trust me, you don’t want the power or the responsibility, especially seeing how badly broken you are from causing all this in the first place. [Now he’s glaring at her, but she keeps her stance to show she’s not intimidated by him] Yeah, I said it. You said so yourself you broke when it happened, and frankly I’d say you’re pretty broken still. Once that power left you, you’ve been released, okay? There’s plenty of others out there who’ve already tried the world manipulation route and it ended badly for them, don’t think you’ll be any different just because it happened before. Now I’m not saying we shouldn’t look into this. You’re right that we need you to look into this, because hell knows I can’t keep up that kind of focus and memorization; but I do know that the world has a way of fixing itself when it gets fucked up like this. We’ll do what we can. As a team. And right now the best thing you can do for the world is using your personal power to make sure this kind of shit never happens to anyone else.
C.C.:
[He’s listening to her, rather intently, but it’s also clear that the gears in his mind have already started racing] So you’ll take me there?
Hannah:
[Throws hands up in the air, but drops them as she can only shrug] Yeah, I can get you in there.
Xena:
We should probably tell the others what’s going on before you two leave though…
Hannah:
Well duh. We’re not just gonna leave in the middle of the night for another region without telling anyone.
C.C.:
Alright, but I need you both to listen. What I shared with you is very serious and a deep secret I’ve been keeping. What we’ve said here does not leave the room. You cannot tell any of the others.
Hannah:
What?
Xena:
Why?
C.C.:
I know finding out the cause behind the world collision is very important, but I don’t want my past and my actions to become a point of tension within our group. If they knew that I was the one behind all this, I’m not so sure they’d be so willing to help me get stronger if I’m now considered a threat. You two know my intention. Will you help me?
Both:
[Soft, somewhat reluctantly] Yes…
C.C.:
Thank you. [deep breath, that was a lot to get out, but it’s such a relief to know they took it better than he thought.] Alright, Hannah? Would you mind going to tell the others about our plans for Flora? I’d like a moment alone with Xena.
Hannah:
Really? Just gonna drop something this heavy on me and ask me to leave?
Xena:
Hannah…
Hannah:
Nah, nah, I get it. You two are family, got a lot of personal stuff to go over, it’s cool. I guess I’ll see you guys tomorrow. [turns back as she nears the door, flashing a weak grin as she tries to lighten the mood] Though if you waaant, we’ve got a party in the girls’ room, Xena.
Xena:
[Grin] I’ll be over in a minute then.

Continuation from my comic for the Crossover Contest
It's not part of the entry, but I did say I had an entire AU forming even before the contest came up and this just hit me this morning.
Taking place after all of the Season 5 runs, the idea of all of the Hosts getting together to figure out what is going on with these crazy place given we've been doing a lot of mods this season and into S6. Which is what this is hinting at is R. Colosseum, XG, and worst of all THE haven't happened yet, but the potential for extreme Voice shenanigans is at large. Burning Red in my timeline happened BEFORE Dual Red and Blue so while Kay isn't part of the group, I'm not sure if or when or how he'd show up either since he's potentially a time traveler and maaay have disappeared after BR events. But who knows. I'm not sure how many parts I'll actually write out for this thing if I decide to keep going, but there is at least one other scene I'd like to do.

What kind of super powers would the DR1 and UDG cast have?
Firstly, I cut it since it’s so long but it’s all there!Secondly, I only included Komaru and the Warriors of Hope in UDG.This took so long, and there’s a lot more in here than the other versions so they’re a little shorter. I hope you like it!
The Superpowers The DR1 and Ultra Despair Girls Casts Would Have!
SDR2 Version | V3 Version
Makoto Naegi
Superpower(s): Hope Inducement, Fate ImmunityHope Inducement: The ability to induce Hope into others.Fate Immunity: The power to be immune to the course of fate.
Makoto’s powers counter that of Junko Enoshima’s.
He can induce Hope into others through means of mind control and other psychicabilities. With that said, he’s also immune to normal mind control.
He radiates Hope and induces anyone who comes into contact with him orsurrounds him with it, using that driving willpower to fight against crime andevil. Just being in the same room as him will cause you to feel his powers.
He naturally induces Hope, simply being around him will affect you and he won’t even have to do anything; Makoto can also purposefully induce Hope into a target as well if needed.
Targets with stronger willpower will take more effort and energy to induce.
Fate Immunity also comes in handy since he is able to change the course of hisown fate and others, using it as a method to protect himself and loved ones.
Makoto has used this power to cheat death multiple times and any time thingslook bad for him, he can simply alter reality and his own destiny. He doesn’thave entire control over what happens but can use it to avoid certainsituations.
Mind readers can predict his moves but cannot change them for his willpower is too strong, he isn’t easily induced or controlled.
He has also used Fate Immunity to save his comrades lives as well.
Kyoko Kirigiri
Superpower(s): Pattern Sense, Truth Detection Pattern Sense: The ability to perceive, analyze, and comprehend patterns.Truth Detection: The power to detect truths in any situation.
Kyoko’s powers are a gift and perhaps that explains why sheis such a phenomenal Detective.
Other than Enhanced Investigation which gives her an edge, she has PatternSense which improves her analytical and perceptive skills.
She’s able to analyze crime scenes, including the chemical components ofevidence just by examining them, sense a suspect’s true nature and intentions, locate evidence more easily, calculate probabilities in the future and decipherthe world.
Her powers are linked to her brain and eyes, and it is a superhuman feat thatimproves her crime-solving capabilities. Kyoko is able to notice even thesmallest of details and often solves crimes within minutes and long beforeanyone else could.
Overall, her Detective powers go beyond that of a normal human.
It can be triggered randomly, which is linked to her strong gut feelings.
She also uses Truth Detection and can constantly sense credibility and falseinformation in any given situation; even if she hardly hears what was said andis an earshot away, she can immediately decipher whether or not said person islying, regardless of if they are a stranger or not. She can sense lies and can never successfully be deceived, even by those with Deception and Lying Superpowers.
It won’t work against brain-washed targets, but it does help Kyoko tell whenshe is in the presence of a shapeshifter or mind controller, etc.
Byakuya Togami
Superpower(s): Currency Generation, Monetary Empowerment Currency Generation: The ability to create currency out of thin air.Monetary Empowerment: The power to gain strength from money/currency.
The Togami family has a secret to how they’ve remained sowealthy, and that’s through the use of these powers that are passed down fromgeneration to generation.
With Currency Generation, Byakuya can create mounds of money on a whim ortransform objects into money through touch.
In essence, anything he touches turns to gold… literally. Although, he cannot turn living beings into currency.
And with Monetary Empowerment, he becomes faster, stronger, and more durablethrough wealth: the amount of wealth he possesses at any given time willdetermine these things. His strength, intelligence, and so on reflect in his wealth.
With that said, if he loses a lot of money then Byakuya and his powers canbecome weakened. He can lose strength, stamina, intelligence, reflexes and so on.
He remains so strong through Currency Generation; every time his powers start to decline or dwindlehe simply generates more money out of thin air and regains his strength.
Byakuya doesn’t have time to fight crime, much more interested in the personalgain and wealth he gets through use of his powers.
He never has to worry about becoming poor as well.
Celestia Ludenberg
Superpower(s): Trickster, Tactical Genius Trickster: The ability to play tricks and disobey the conventional rules ofbehavior.Tactical Genius: The power to have infallible tactics and strategy.
Celestia obtained her powers naturally and they have helpedher become a master gambler.
She has no use for crime fighting, using them for her own recreational purposesinstead. She falls between villain and hero, leaning more towards using her powers for benefit and mischief.
Through Trickster, she mocks authority and follows her own rules. Celestia iscunning and can use it in a variety of ways: fooling people into falling forher lies and deception, disguising herself to gain an advantage over others, orsimply tricking others into doing her bidding.
She doesn’t bother with immature tricks, instead using her power to play people into her hands, especially in Casinos.
Her charm and seduction has also helped her gain an advantage in this realm.
With Tactical Genius, she can see through all and read people like books;perception, patterns, and information cannot slip past her – this is why she’ssuch a successful gambler.
Celestia can see through the card dealer and determine their moves as well as emitting an aura that deceives them into doing as she pleases. rigging games to her favor.
She is able to always be two steps ahead of everyone around her, predictingtheir strategy before even they know what their next move is.
Leon Kuwata
Superpower(s): Speed Throwing, Intuitive AptitudeSpeed Throwing: The ability to throw objects at extremely high speeds.Intuitive Aptitude: The power to instantly learn and understand the complexityand exactness of organisms, objects, etc. without the need of long-term ofspecial education.
Leon gained his abilities naturally. Intuitive Aptitude camefirst, which is something that runs in his blood-line; it’s why he was able topick up baseball so easily without having to go to practice.
He’s able to easily learn the mechanics of something, regardless of how simpleor complex. He tells people it’s just because he has a good gut and learns quickly.
It goes so much deeper than that, though. Leon has senses that a normal humandoesn’t have and is the main reason why he excels at just about everything hedoes.
And he can easily adapt to changes and whatever an enemy throws at him.
Speed Throwing was an ability he obtained through sports, particularlybaseball; it helped him with pitching.
Depending on how large and heavy the object is that he’s throwing willdetermine its damage, and if he needs to he can impale enemies with pointedobjects.
A trail of fire is often seen following the objects he throws – if he can liftit, he can throw it.
Typically, Leon stays out of crime-fighting because it’s not his scene. However, he steps in when necessary. He doesn’t like fighting solo and refuses to call himself a hero, though.
Aoi Asahina
Superpower(s): Hydromancer, Whirlpool GenerationHydromancer: The power to manipulate and bend water.Whirlpool Generation: The ability to create whirlpools on a whim.
Aoi discovered the talent hidden within her whilst swimmingone day; ever since, her superpowers have caused her to be an even greaterswimmer than she was before.
More than that, she can create water at the tip of her fingers or manipulate and bend alreadyexisting bodies of water. Aoi is able to use them as attacks if she pleases, changing their consistency from liquid to strong and solid, hitting the targetwith a ton of force.
She can also turn a stream of water into burning, scalding steam as an attack.
It’s very similar to Water-Bending in Avatar, moving them with her mind and hands. And the larger the body of water, the more powerful her attacks become.
She can also generate whirlpools inside of water or even out of thin air, almostlike a black-hole that sucks and traps enemies. It’s very violent and trains her energy, though. Once an enemy falls into a whirlpool, they won’t be able to escape and are at her mercy.
And she does use her powers for recreational use as well, improving herswimming, but she prefers using them for crime-fighting. She has enhanced herabilities so much that she can also freeze water if she pleases and control iceas well. She is working on freeze-breath, but for now she can just turn an already existing body of water into solid ice with just one touch.
Aoi is so talented that she’s mastered the art of Water-Healing as well, able to heal mortal wounds using her powers.
Kiyotaka Ishimaru
Superpower(s): Moral ManipulationMoral Manipulation: The ability to manipulate the boundaries between right andwrong.
Kiyotaka is incredibly torn between his superpowers: he is agenerally good person and the fact that he is able to essentially alter realityreally hurts him emotionally.
With his powers, he is able to manipulate and shift the basic concept ofmorality. He can change what is viewed as good and right into wrongdoing andwhat is seen as evil or totally immoral into the right thing.
If he wanted to, he can make genocide seem perfect but healing someone in needcould cause anger and hatred.
It’s incredibly powerful and he understands the risks so he uses his powers sparingly and solely for good purposes.
Kiyotaka’s strong sense of justice sometimes gets in the way and he’ll bend the morals to seek justice, like a vigilante with superpowers.
If he knows someone is committing acts of moral wrongdoing but others refuse to see it, he can manipulate it and force them to see everything wrong in the world.
Although, he is hyper-sensitive to the evils that come with reality as well because of this, which drains his energy.
He can’t cause physical damage or attacks, only change others’ mentality.
His affects can be long-lasting and he can change the way we view certain things forever to adhere to his liking or only temporarily change the morals of a scenario.
But he’ll never change others’ opinions of himself to benefit his own moral standing because that isn’t right. He never alters things to make himself seem like a better person, even though he technically could. He feels like people don’t easily trust him since he could change their viewpoints with the snap of a finger.
Touko Fukawa
Superpower(s): Hidden Arsenal, Dagger Proficiency Hidden Arsenal: The ability to hide a large amount of weaponry within an item, clothing, or object.Dagger Proficiency: The power to possess great skill in wielding daggers andknives.
When she’s Touko, she really isn’t very extraordinary – atypical teenaged girl. When she shifts into Genocider, though, is wheneverything changes.
She used to be more like a super-villain but her intents have shifted. Toukoisn’t fond of her powers and she fears that people will think she’s a freak ifthey know, or worse – she’ll scare them away.
She has since learned how to use her powers as Touko and doesn’t limit herself to only using them when she is Genocider, but she often finds no use for them in her normal persona.
With Hidden Arsenal, she’s able to hide numerous weapons inside of her clothing– even those that are larger than the dimensions of her body. In itself, shecan turn herself into the weapon if she wanted to.
It’s also called Body Storage, and Touko’s carrying at least thirty weapons onher at all times – but you’d never be able to tell.
It’s normally for self-protection or protection of others.
Dagger Proficiency goes beyond simply being skilled with a blade – she has avaried fighting style and is a much more hands-on hero than most. A lot ofpeople don’t even view her powers as real powers.
Because of her powers, she is much more cunning and stealthy than your averagehuman.
Knowing that Genocider can be a little hard to control and unpredictable, Touko has begun fighting as herself and using her powers on her own terms but still somewhat fears usage of blades.
Mondo Oowada
Superpower(s): Hellfire, Vehicular CombatHellfire: The ability to control the fire from the depths of Hell.Vehicular Combat: The ability to be highly proficient with vehicles solelymeant for combat purposes.
Despite his attitude, Mondo uses his powers mainly for good. He’s a cocky superhero, though, and tends to get ahead of himself.
Hellfire and his powers in general are similar to that of Ghost Rider; sure, he cancreate flames from his hands and shoot fireballs from his palms, but what’s cooler than thatis surrounding his bike with flames and riding through the city on a flame-bike.
When he rides it, it leaves a trail of fire behind him – however, Mondo is immune togetting burned.
His flames destroy anything they touch, and the color varies – mainly eithernormal flame colors or green.
Hellfire is summoned from the depths of Hellitself and is hotter than normal fire.
Almost everyone, or at least the higher-up members, in the Crazy Diamondspossess this ability.
If he has to, he will use fire from his hands to fight. He loves scorching enemies with the hellish flames from his exhaust, though.
And Mondo can fight using his bike, with both the flames he creates that surround itand the armory stored within his bike. He is essentially able to use his bikeas a weapon in itself.
He has altered it to become a weapon and endure his Hellfire ability. He thinks of himself as a real-life Ghost Rider.
Sayaka Maizono
Superpower(s): Siren Song, Death SongSiren Song: The power to emit a sound that lures anyone who hears it towardsthe user.Death Song: The power to cause death by emitting sound.
Sayaka had always been a beautiful singer but a tragic accidentenhanced her abilities, thus giving her these powers.
She is prideful when it comes to her singing voice and is able to switch hernormal one on and off, so that she can sing normally if she wanted to withoutusing her powers.
Normal Sirens can only attract the opposite sex with their songs but Sayakahas obtained the ability to attract both sexes.
Anyone who hears her Siren songs will immediately become infatuated with herand unable to resist her; even if they wanted to run away from her, they wouldbe physically unable to.
Once you hear it, you are completely under her spell. A form of hypnosis; it is mesmerizing, those who hear it will fall under her bidding.
Sayaka can also use Death Song, so that anyone who hears it will die – she cantarget one person with it or several people in her vicinity, depending on the situation.
It causes a frequency so high that it destroys the brain of whoever hears it,of course Sayaka is immune to its effects.
She does use her powers for good, mainly taking out evil-doing men with them.
She’ll lure in her enemies with her Siren song, and once they are unable to get away, she’ll use Death Song to end their life.
Chihiro Fujisaki
Superpower(s): Digital Teleportation and Bionic PhysiologyDigital Teleportation: The power to teleport via digital data.Bionic Physiology: The power to use the abilities of a robot, machine, orweapon.
Chihiro gained these powers in a freak accident, involvingthe technology he’d been programming.
Now, he is able to literally become one with his technology.
All he has to do is run his hands along the technology he wants to teleportwith and activate his powers, and he will be able to use their programming andwires to teleport.
For example, if in a computer lab, Chihiro could teleport into one computer andthen move to the opposite side of the room, teleporting out of another. It’s the same as other forms of teleportation, only limited to digital methods.
It’s not limited to just computers though, he can also teleport through phones, machines; anything involving technology.
Bionic Physiology allows Chihiro to transform either his entire body or hislimbs into machines – although, it’s limited to the things he’s come intocontact with previously.
He can turn his arm into a weapon, for example. Although, he can short-circuitif he uses too much power at once; he also isn’t very comfortable with using weapons, not wanting to hurt anyone.
Once he teleports into something, he can use Bionic Physiology to control it as well.
Sakura Oogami
Superpower(s): Strength Absorption, Sense of StrengthStrength Absorption: The ability to steal/absorb the strength of others and addit to one’s own level of strength.Sense of Strength: The ability to know a target’s powers, skills and strengths.
Sakura is going to be a local hero, a face that everyoneknows and relies on and an ultimate crime-fighter.
She is humble, down-to-earth, and doesn’t always talk about her powers buteveryone knows what she is capable of. She insists that it’s nothing special.
With Sense of Strength, she can scan an enemy and immediately tell what powersthey possess and what their strengths and weaknesses are, as well as weak points. Sakura is then ableto use that against them - literally.
Combining that with Strength Absorption, she can alter their own abilities and manifestthem into herself, weakening them and making herself stronger so that there’s nowunbalanced skill levels.
She steals others’ physical power and drain away the enemy, adding it to her own strength and causing her to become more powerful. Since she is soskilled in combat, she is able to use her powers to defeat nearly any enemy shecomes across.
There is a limit to how much strength Sakura can take from others but that is alimit she has never reached.
She is incredibly moral and would never use her powers against innocentcitizens. And no matter what, Sakura is always going to rush head-first into a fight, never fearing her enemy.
Yasuhiro Hagakure
Superpower(s): DivinationDivination: The ability to gain insight into a question or situation using anoccultic, standardized process or ritual.
Yasuhiro always had these superpowers, born with them, butit took him a very long time to gain any sort of credibility. Everyone alwaysdismissed him or didn’t believe him when he said he had powers.
Since he’s been dismissed so many times, he typically stays out of the crime-fighting scene, feeling like a reject.
When he was younger, he was a lot less accurate; as he’s gained experience andage, he is able to precisely predict the past, present, and future as well asother methods of divination.
Yasuhiro is able to communicate with the supernatural and read patterns. He hasa ‘third-eye’ which he uses to see into the future or accurately predict thepast, causing him to read people like a book.
He’s also evolved into using Crystallomancy, particularly his Crystal Ball butGems as well, which he can use to see into the future, too.
Yasuhiro has also developed the ability of Precognition, a form of Divination;with this, he is able to perceive future events before they happen. He usesthis to prevent tragedies from happening and warn others of events to come and to predict the villains’ nextmoves.
He’s also capable of performing more ‘mundane’ acts; palm and aura reading, future-telling, and so on like a ‘normal’ psychic.
And he has Mediumship, able to communicate with the dead as well.
Junko Enoshima
Superpower(s): Despair Inducement, Mind ControlDespair Inducement: The power to induce a great sense of Despair into others.Mind Control: Control the minds of others.
Let’s be honest, Junko is going to be more of a Super-villainthan a Hero.
She was born with these powers which may be why she is titled the UltimateDespair. With her powers, Junko is able to cause feelings of Despair anddepression into others.
Unlike Makoto, she has to physically come in contact with someone to induce Despair.
The feelings she creates and implements into others makes them feel as if thereis no reason to live, encouraging hopelessness. The feelings she can create are so powerful that it can drive others to takingtheir lives.
Junko first tested out her abilities on her sister, Mukuro. Since then, the pair have worked together.
With Mind Control, she can cause total Despair – if someone chooses not tosubmit to her or somehow resists the inducement, all she has to do is controlthem into doing as she pleases.
Her victims have no recollection of what they said or did whilst beingcontrolled. This is how she gets people to do her dirty work.
Junko has also used Mind Control to force others into spreading her powers like a disease.
The Despair can last for however long she pleases, and she can cause it to become intensified at will or choose to release the individual from her Despair.
Hifumi Yamada
Superpower(s): X-Ray VisionX-Ray Vision: The power to see through objects or people.
If we’re being honest, he mainly uses it for his ownbenefit. I mean… getting to look through clothing, that’s a score.
Hifumi is even able to look through fictional objects… yes, including anime andmanga characters. It’s both a blessing and a curse but he’s not going to complain.
He has learned how to transform this into light-energy and cause laser-vision as wellbut has yet to gain control of that.
He can see within objects, through walls, and so on. It can also be used formedical purposes to see cancer, tumors, and so on. He will proclaim himself as a Hero but doesn’t really do anything to benefit others.
It can be triggered randomly so sometimes Hifumi will accidentally use it,causing a lot of embarrassing moments and seeing things he didn’t want to.
His eyes are special and look different than a normal human’s and he hides his powers through his glasses. Although, ithas improved his eyesight as well so he really doesn’t even need them anymore.
It does emit radioactive waves when using his powers which can cause harm/health concerns to himself and others if not used properly, so helimits his usage. Because of this, Hifumi doesn’t really fight crime.
Mukuro Ikusaba
Superpower(s): Four Horsemen Physiology Four Horsemen Physiology: The power to use characteristics of the Four Horsemenof the Apocalypse
This is a power Mukuro obtained during her time in the war;it was caused during a freak accident.
With it, she can control and create devastating apocalyptic powers. This is obviously used in her efforts to spread Despair throughout the world.
Mukuro can control Famine, Pestilence, Conquest, and War - if she isn’t careful, she can actually end the world as we know it.
She can bring Famine to anyone she pleases, draining their body of nutrients at an insanely rapid pace. She spreads Pestilence through touch, and her diseases cannot be cured. And Mukuro can control entire armies to do her bidding through War.
Junko loves that since causing the world to cease to exist is just so Despair-inducing!
Often times, she uses her powers under Junko’s command, whether it be intentionallyfollowing orders or if she’s put under Junko’s mind control.
But she restrains herself, not entirely wanting to end the world. Her abilities are arguably more powerful than her sister’s, and once combined, the villains are nearly unstoppable.
Nagisa Shingetsu
Superpower(s): Enhanced Wits and Intelligence Enhanced Wits and Intelligence: The power to have wits/intelligence far beyond that ofnormal members of one’s species.
His powers were given to him by his family. It actuallyscares Nagisa a bit because he fears knowing too much or intimidating others.
Sometimes he’ll downplay his intelligence in order to deceive his enemies in combat. Because of this, it’s hard to predict what he’s going to do.
Although, he isn’t very strong so he resorts to mentally defeating his opponents.
Nagisa is quick on his feet, clever, and able to adapt to changing surroundings. His intelligence surpasses a normal human’s and he can perform complex mentaloperations beyond the normal mind.
It takes little effort and once he sees or hears something for the first time, that information sticks with him for the rest of his life.
Nagisa has exceptional problem-solving skills and deduction, ultimately usinghis powers mainly for good purposes.
He is wise beyond his years and his super-human intelligence is something that no one, other than Nagisa himself, can fully comprehend.
Kotoko Utsugi
Superpower(s): Genre Embodiment, Self-Adaption Genre Embodiment: The power to become the embodiment of specific genres.Self-Adaption: The power to adapt to any situation and select the way oneadapts.
Kotoko has used her powers to gain leverage in life andprogress her acting abilities.
Genre Adaption allows her to master any form ofacting and genre whatsoever, causing her to become a great actress. Although, drama is still her favorite.
Because of this, she’s also able to easily fool others with her genre-capabilities, bringing them into real-world scenarios rather than just on-stage plays. Kotoko is extremely deceptive and cunning.
This is used for her own benefit while she uses Self-Adaption to help others.
Kotoko is already a skilled fighter and she is able to adapt to any surroundingswith this ability. Virtually anything she may face can be altered to benefither.
She can adapt her body to become stronger or withstand certain elements, andshe’s gained many resources enabling her to survive.
She is a hands-on combat Hero and uses this to handle anything that her enemiesmay throw at her.
Kotoko can adapt to anything and thus, making her extremely hard to kill.
Monaca Towa
Superpower(s): PersuasionPersuasion: The ability to control people with the power of one’s own voice.
Unlike Junko Enoshima who uses Mind Control, Monaca usesPersuasion to command and control others with her voice.
She, too, will be more likely to become a Villain instead. She uses herpersuasion to get people to do as she pleases, bowing down to her and gaining asuperiority complex because of it.
Monaca often thinks she’s better than her ‘servants’ as she calls them.
Her targets are unable to disobey, no command is too much to handle when underher spell, as long as the target under her Persuasion is capable of carrying out said command. She often uses this to bring people into Despair as well, siding with Junko.
She is still young so she has yet to master everything involving her powers, but once she reaches a high-level she can eventually persuade people into harmingor killing themselves or others.
There are limitations, she cannot persuade someone into doing something theyare not capable of: for example, if she were to persuade someone who does notknow how to swim to go into the ocean, her powers would falter and fail.
It’s a lesser form of hypnosis strictly using her own voice. She finds amusement out of commanding others to do her bidding, somewhat still childlike and abusing her powers as well.
Masaru Daimon
Superpower(s): Super-Human Speed and StaminaSuper-Human Speed and Stamina: The ability to be supernaturally faster and moredurable than the average human.
He’s always had these superpowers and he loves them, usingthem to gain a lead in athletics. Since Masaru is still a kid, he typicallyabuses his powers and doesn’t always use them for good purposes, finding ways to use them for mischief.
He more-so wants to have fun with them than anything else.
He is glaringly faster than any other human, able to run at nearly the speed oflight.
He’s used this to pull pranks on people before, obviously.
If he accelerates too quickly, he can become severely damaged in the process. Ashe gets older and more experienced, he will become more immune to accelerationbut that’s a skill he has to learn.
And with Super-Human Stamina, Masaru is more durable than your average humanand he doesn’t get tired. He can push himself past his limits and not feel anykind of repercussions.
When he goes too fast, he can’t hear anything other than the wind passing himby. Luckily, Masaru can run for hours and fight for longer than his othersuperhero companions due to his enhanced stamina.
Komaru Naegi
Superpower(s): TelekinesisTelekinesis: The ability to manipulate objects and matter with her mind.
Komaru thought she was an average high-school girl, notrealizing what powers hid within her for a long time. Apparently, she’s alwayspossessed them and didn’t know.
She can influence objects with her mind, controlling them towards her or direct them at enemies. She can use objects as weapons, projecting them attargets just by standing still.
Nothing is off-limits: it doesn’t matter how heavy an object is, her telekinesis is so advanced thatshe can lift anything with her mind, including the enemies themselves.
Komaru had become so skilled with her psychic abilities that, using her trustyMegaphone Gun, she can also transmit that telekinetic psychic energy intowavelengths and use the frequencies in her mind as a physical weapon, shootingthem like sound-waves at her opponents.
She will definitely be one who wants to fight-crime, thriving to be a local Hero and protect others.
Although, if she uses too much telekinesis or exhausts her usage of telekineticwaves with the Megaphone, she can get a headache and drain her energy.
Komaru also uses it for mundane purposes in her free-time; what’s better than being able to lift the remote and bring it to you without ever getting up off the couch?
Jataro Kemuri
Superpower(s): Art ManipulationArt Manipulation: The power to manipulate art.
Jataro can create, shape, and manipulate art and the mediasused to create them. Although, since he is still young he hasn’t yet masteredhis powers.
He refrained from using them for quite some time because he thought it made hima freak and feared rejection. Only recently has he begun to open up to hisabilities.
Jataro is limited to already-existing artworks, not able to create them out ofthin air. He mainly only manipulates his own since he doesn’t want to ruinanyone else’s hard work.
Its power also depends on the media that the artwork was made from.
He can move and manipulate paint, pencils, and other art medias telepathically and create works of art without ever lifting a finger.
Jataro wants to side with crime-fighting but thinks his powers are pretty useless, so he mainly sticks with the benefits he gets and uses them to improve his own artwork.
