Anxious to get well away from the eldritch lochan before the end of the day, Algy did not linger beside the water for long, but set off while the sun was just about as high in the sky as it was likely to get at this time of year, and the terrors of the night were banished – at least for a while – by the bright golden light.
But the prospect of the encroaching darkness seemed even more menacing after his unnerving sojourn beside the kelpie's watery home, so Algy was keener than ever to find that elusive sanctuary of light and warmth which he remained sure must exist somewhere in the heart of the winter… if only he knew where! But alas! He did not… He still had not the slightest idea which direction he should take to pursue his search, for he had so far found no clue of any kind to guide him.
Before he flew onwards, over the ridge and into the unknown, Algy paused for a short rest on a comfortable clump of heather and dry grass, and looked back across the glowing moorland towards the lochan, which was now sparkling innocently in the sunshine, luring the unsuspecting traveller towards its banks. Despite the evil which the raven had warned him lurked in that pretty lake, it was certainly a bonnie sight…
But then he looked again… The fearsome kelpie was not the only danger which threatened a fluffy bird in that impressive but completely exposed and inhospitable landscape. Not far away, soaring leisurely over a hillside on the lookout for its lunch, Algy could see a massive golden eagle, the mighty Laird of the Sky. That settled it! This was no place for a daft fluffy bird; he must seek a more suitable refuge for the depths of the winter, with greater comfort and far fewer perils!
He clasps the crag with crooked hands; Close to the sun in lonely lands, Ring'd with the azure world, he stands. The wrinkled sea beneath him crawls; He watches from his mountain walls, And like a thunderbolt he falls.
[Algy is quoting the poem The Eagle by the 19th century English poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson.]

reason: It's enemies-to-lovers in the best way. And the sexual tension is delicious.

niche fandom:
... like the 2011 The Eagle???
YES! (But also the book)
There's stuff from the book that I wish had made it into the movie- Like Cub, or when Esca almost got them both killed because he's such an overly dramatic actor that he nearly fell off his horse, or the Centurion's Hound speech. But the movie is just lush.

And the alternate ending is great. Instead of the 'What now?' 'You decide.' scene in the Senate, they literally walk off into the distance arguing about where to spend their lives together. 'A farm... in Spain... With horses.'
