sometimes I do need to remember those anti voting posts are not being written about me
#‘they love it as long as they get theirs’ girl I HATE that these are the options#but not voting literally doesn’t do anything#well except 4 move politicians right#but I know thats in response to the people that are being stupid about it#and saying shit like . ignoring or talking over the clear as fuck issues with the system#like ‘vote to save democracy’ pisses me off too cause this is hardly democratic#and actually also. the us isn’t the only democracy!#I agree that we should vote based purely on a few differences between candidates not because I think that it’ll like. Save the world#I completely agree that these choices are not some solution and in fact suck ass#but I simply don’t wanna make it harder. one of em will be elected#and voting or not voting is a choice.#if you’re gonna say one vote = complicity it goes both ways#I’m sorry that this situation sucks so bad though#oif I could vote to just destroy it with hammers I probably would

So, a comparatively high amount of states are voting on the fate of ranked choice voting this year. Missouri is voting on whether or not to kill it, Alaska is voting on whether or not to keep it, and most importantly, Nevada, Oregon and Idaho are voting on whether or not to adopt ranked choice voting, with maybe Colorado to follow.
And if you live in these states, even if you don't want to vote at the top of the ticket, I urge you to get out there and vote in favor of ranked choice voting on all of them.
Like, the two-party monopoly is a big part of the reason why politics in this country is so shit, and a big part of that is our "first past the post" system making it basically mathematically impossible for candidates outside of them to win anything beyond a local or state level.
So, if you want to try and break the cycle of voting for the lesser evil, of bipartisan cruelty towards the Global South and the country's own citizens alike, we need to change this and we need to vote on it where we can.

With the 2024 elections approaching I wanted to share 2 stories about abortion and women’s healthcare. One is mine, and the other belongs to a woman named Amber Thurman.
On September 5th, I received the worst news of my life. I learned that I had had a missed miscarriage which meant that I had lost the child I was carrying but my body thought it was still pregnant.
The doctor told me my body should realize what had happened naturally.
Unfortunately it did not.
Eventually the doctor, worried for my safety, prescribed several pills which were supposed to induce a chemical abortion.
Unfortunately it did not and most of the fetal tissue remained inside my body.
This put me at serious risk of sepsis and further complications that could potentially have cost me my life. I scheduled a fairly routine surgery called a D&C to remove the remaining tissue removed and began trying to rebuild my life.
Amber Thurman was a young woman who lived in Georgia with a 6 year old son and a promising future.
She also took pills to chemically induce a abortion that failed to remove all of the fetal tissue and put her at serious risk of sepsis and further complications.
Unfortunately, after the Supreme Court repealed Roe v. Wade, Georgia passed laws prohibiting Amber and other women from having a D&C. As a result, doctors were too afraid to operate on her until her organs were already failing.
She did not survive.
4 years ago I also lived in Georgia. Which means if my husband and I hadn’t moved I likely would not have survived either.
Women’s healthcare is important and access to these procedures save lives, mine included. As you prepare to vote please remember my story and the story of Amber Thurman and vote for the candidate who believes we should be saved.

What progress at home has biden enacted? What policies of his show that he is making progress that prove he is actually different than trump?
I like to pretend I have faith in humanity, so I'll answer as if you're asking this in good faith.
Biden's DEA has lifted restrictions on telehealth prescriptions to make appointments and assistance more accessible.
He put a funding package into place to help unhoused people get access to mental and physical healthcare, as well as short-term and long-term housing.
He has attempted and is still attempting to get student debt relief through - this was blocked by Republican judges appointed by Trump, but he's still working on it.
Infrastructure repair - his administration has budgeted funds to actually fix some severely-damaged and frequently-traveled bridges.
Trying to expand access to healthcare to include undocumented immigrants who came to the USA as children (Dreamers) under the Affordable Care Act. Support for Navigator programs and outreach has also been increased.
He has vetoed Republican-led bills that were attempting to overturn environmental protections - one that would have forbidden investment fund managers to consider climate change in their portfolios (I have two degrees in accounting and this is actually huge), and another that would have overturned restrictions on agricultural runoff into our waterways.
He and his administration worked for ages to get rail workers paid sick days.
This is just some of what he's been doing. Meanwhile, Trump and other Republicans want to criminalize the lives of LGBT people like you and me. They want to eliminate no-fault divorce and force births that will kill parents or devastate them financially. They have stated flat out that they want to install a military dictatorship in the USA. They attempted to put that in motion on January 6th, 2021. They failed once. They will do better next time.
One party wants to house the homeless and expand social safety nets, while the other one wants to criminalize homelessness. One of them wants a future in which I might be able to vote to change how much of a war machine my country is, while the other one wants to eliminate my ability to vote entirely. Those are not the same. Those literally are opposites.
At the end of the day, all you and I can do is choose to do the least amount of harm possible. You and I cannot choose to do no harm. This is the USA, we sell war, you and I cannot choose to do no harm. I wish we could, my god do I wish we could, but that is not an option. So we grieve for the harm we couldn't eliminate and work to minimize the harm that is done. Despite all the crap they support, Democrats are the minimum amount of harm right now. Acting like they aren't is exactly what brought us to an election where our options are a future where we are either wading in blood or drowning in it.
Not voting for Biden will not help Palestine. Not voting for Biden will guarantee a Republican president who will make the situation in Palestine WORSE. AND it'll hurt a lot of other places as well, both at home and abroad, because Republicans are about business and the USA is in the business of war! And I would very much like that to change someday! I would very much like to someday be able to choose to do no harm! And I know what I have to do to try for that future, so what are YOU going to do? There is no standing off to the side in this. If you aren't helping pull, you're the dead weight we're pulling. Are you going to dig your feet into the mud and blood and drown us there? Or are you going to get the fuck off your ass, grit your teeth, and help us pull free?
#askbasket#iam-the-wild#us politics#israel#palestine#if you do not vote blue you do not get to call yourself an antifascist#i HATE that that's the case; don't mistake me#but that is the reality we're working with#there isn't any other#do nothing and kill five people or act and kill one.#so what are you gonna do? i can't choose for you. but i know what my choice is.#i'm part of this world. and as much as i hate it...turning away is not one of the options.#we fight on ALL fronts#we protest we donate we write we call#AND WE ALSO FUCKING VOTE FOR THE LEAST OF THE EVILS. BECAUSE NO EVIL IS NOT AN OPTION.

The question to women that’s gone viral:
Would you rather be in the woods alone w a man or a bear?
Majority of women said bear.
Why? Because even if it did maul us, the following would happen-
1. We wouldn’t be blamed for the attack
2. We would be believed
3. People would hunt down that bear without giving it a second thought

Reminder:
Yes, in a perfect world we could vote for and elect a third-party candidate with a stronger pro-Palestine position than Harris. But without federal ranked choice voting, getting a third party candidate elected president is essentially impossible. Also, getting rid of the electoral college is a must. The Republican Party, meanwhile, will never let these things happen if they have their way. So let's do our best to keep the Republicans out of office this election, and stick these things on our future to-do list so that down the road so we can elect a third-party candidate.

I am so sick and tired of seeing all these “I know biden is bad, I know biden has done some bad things but vote for biden because trump will destroy our democracy” posts bc a) clearly our democracy is a sham and b) STOP DEFENDING BIDEN, STOP DOWNPLAYING WHAT HE HAS DONE! you do not need to, nor should you, defend biden to any degree. you can say that we cannot let trump win without that other bullshit. biden is pure evil, he is scum. and part of what makes him so horrendous and disturbing is the charade he puts on like he’s the good guy and trump is the evil, the bad to his good. quite literally the only thing that he has going for him is that his opponent is somehow even worse than him. that his opponent has no pretense of even trying to act like he doesn’t want to fully be a dictator. stop fucking defending biden. stop fucking downplaying all the horrendous, despicable, evil things he has done and is continuing to do. he is fully funding and supporting and enabling a genocide. it helps no one.
and if/when biden loses, he only has himself to blame.
ideally we would all rally behind a third party candidate and the electoral college wouldn’t exist. ideally these wouldn’t be our “choices”. idfk what to do because trump cannot win but how can any of us in good conscience vote for biden’s evil, fascistic, decrepit ass ??
what makes biden so different from or better than trump? nothing!!
- he is unconditionally supporting netanyahu and his genocide of Palestinians
- democrats have done nothing to protect nor help us as roe v. wade was overturned, we still have student loan debt, the cost of living is unaffordable and the minimum wage remains unchanged, biden has increased police presence and funding for police (more so than in 2020, despite the eruption of BLM protests and the murder of George Floyd and his promise to George Floyd’s family that he wouldn’t let his murder become just another number, another hashtag), and so. much. more.
- biden is building off of trump’s policies - specifically and most recently, biden has just announced an executive order to deny asylum requests. the increase in police funding and the further militarization of police was also built off of trump’s policies
the u.s. is an evil sham of a country.
as ethel cain said …
#I think i’ll vote third party. we have no real fucking choices.#we can’t not vote but we also can’t vote for evil genocide joe#but also it’s like#it doesn’t even fucking matter bc it’s all a sham and they’re not even trying to pretend that it’s not#every fucking day they further rub it in our faces that our so-called democracy is a complete and utter sham#one prime example being the violent suppression of peaceful pro-palestine protests#where are the debates? where is any of the bullshit from previous election years??#genocide joe#FREE PALESTINE#CEASEFIRE NOW#END THE OCCUPATION#signal boost#gaza#tw cussing

"actually if you don't vote for the guy who lied about beheaded babies and is currently funding the genocide that enabled to the tune of $14 billion, YOU are the one who wants a genocide, because it could get even worse for [insert random minority group here later - Editor] in America! if you carry this train of thought through to its only logical conclusion and get mad at me for explicitly saying that hypothetical future American deaths are worse than real current Palestinian deaths, i will start monologuing at you like a YA novel protagonist before linking a barrage of HuffPo and Buzzfeed articles about the five things Biden managed to accomplish in between not saving Roe v Wade and not stopping student loan payments and mishandling covid. i am the mature one here"
#saying that not voting for biden is the same as voting for genocide as biden is currently enabling literal genocide is#well it's certainly a choice
