Hello! I was wondering if you had any Gentlebeard fanfic you would recommend on ao3? Ideally a nice slow-burn with a few chapters but honestly anything you like would be great - just on the search for more fics to digest. Thank you!
I'd recommend everything by @xoxoemynn and @darcylindbergh if you're looking for some very soft and in character, kinda awkward but also canon compliant, ed and stede ❤️ they've both got a ton of shorter works too. My favourite ofmd fics are:
Witness Marks (unhinged smut, horny clock boys)
Where the Daylight Begins (long but so so good, slow burn, I've read this one 4 to 5 times by now, magical realism and lovable crew on top of lovable ed and stede)
Roll for Charisma (so fluffy and some top quality pining, the plot of the show is their D&D campaign)
The Devil's Panties by @adickaboutspoons (sex pollen but make it so fluffy and earnest that my skin melted off my bones)
Separating Salt from Water by @nonagethimus (one of the tags is homoerotic shark hunting, enough said)
You Belong in that Home By and By (everyone wants Stede, but Stede only wants Ed)
Two Birds @red-sky-in-mourning (very gentle romance tinged with good angst but happy endings)
Grounded (fluffy smut, stede is something else in darcy's hands, no one gets him this right trust me)
Your Name Like a Boat (the angst oh my god this one still hurts, another one I've read a bunch of times and a very fulfilling ending)
The Kraken's Sacrifice @trinityofone (actual kraken ed and they're so soft and in love, this one is a bit out there but it's so interesting, i finished it in one sitting)
From Gloom to Grace @bizarrelittlemew (pollen but it makes them cuddle is there anything better)
Stealing Romance by @skrifores (I prayed for a realistic jealous ed fic and this one is it)
Little Wonder @ofmd-alsaurus (stede has a tiny dick, ed is really into it, it's funny and sweet)
Only by the Grace of the Sea @palavapeite (hot priest stede, incredible writing, slow burn)
Leggy Blonde You Got in Goin' On by @palavapeite (stede joins a gym, most in character stede I've read in this fandom)
And I'd 100% recommend my own fic 😬 Moonstone Mage Championship (slow burn, fantasy, idiots to lovers)
#asks#ofmd#ofmd fic recs#our flag means death#I don't read that many fics I mostly just reread the ones I like 🥲✌️#ofmd fic rec#blackbonnet

one of my absolute favorite things about nightow's art is how good he is at silhouettes. and no character is a better showcase of this than mr nicholas d wolfwood himself. so this is a post appreciating how Shaped wolfwood is
(not under a cut because that messes up the image formatting fsr, thanks tumblr! and VERY sorry to anyone trying to scroll past this)
you can really see how good nightow is at this is in panels where ww is static and his limbs are close to his body. we can still easily read his pose just by how the outline of his suit is shaped and how his hands and/or feet are positioned.
his dynamic poses and poses where he's holding the punisher are also FANTASTIC and a lot of fun
this set of panels is the perfect demonstration of both of the types of poses i'm talking about (also i just wanted to post it because it's cool)
more Wolfwood Shapes i like. the poses are still readable even though they're just Weird Black Shapes
i also really want to include this page, not only does it have another wolfwood shape i enjoy, but the composition is just superb. i love the contrast between vash and ww in this scene.
i also need to mention how LEGGY this man is. dare i say he's almost as leggy as vash.
i love this chapter cover page because it shows a little more detail than usual in ww's suit, but still has the striking black silhouette and use of negative space. (i wonder if the original artwork was in color?)
i also love when nightow lights him up with stark white against black for dynamic shading!
and there are some REALLY cool effective lighting shots during the fight with ninelives
also bonus because i love when he's Just A Rectangle
#trigunbookclub#nicholas d. wolfwood#organizing and formatting this post was more difficult than it should have been LOL#nothing from this week's volume bc i haven't read it yet lmao#trigun talk#june speaks#long post

THE DEED HAS BEEN DONE AND THE SHRIMP HAVE BEEN MOVED
The old SHRIMP CUBE, for posterity:
There’s a buce-covered little mopani wood log in there that isn’t very visible because of the sheer amount of salvinia on the surface, which I’ve moved to the main 20 gallon because I LOVE mopani wood and I also love how the buce rooted into it. I also moved the crypt in - it’s fun to see how different it is from the other two crypts that I bought from the same tissue culture, just from growing in a different tank. The ambulia is getting tossed, unfortunately. I love how dense and fluffy it is in low tech tanks, but high light and CO2 make it super leggy in the community tank and I hate it.
I want it on record that I started with ONE of these fuckers. I like the look and stick-together-ness of it a lot more than duckweed. I just got the first volume of Stars of Chaos in the mail and the intro page had a very poignant note on it that was completely lost on me because it specifically referred to duckweed and I’m traumatized from painstakingly picking tiny bits of it out of every plant my classmate has ever given me. I REFUSE TO SUCCUMB TO THE INFECTION.
Anyway, the move went well apart from me finding one tiny little baby shrimp and the tetras trying to eat it (probably the loaches will get him, RIP and apologies little buddy, it’s very unlikely that a shrimp colony will manage to reproduce in this tank even if the adults are going to be left alone), and it kinda strikes me how full and vibrant my community tank looks now. I have a couple of more changes I want to make (rip out the rest of the rotala macranada, let the ludwigia super red grow in instead, and refill the sand bank) but aside from that it just... looks really amazing now, especially compared to how much it’s grown from its starting point.
Here’s day 1:
And here it is today:
:D

Hiya! I have a question for a tw fic I'm working on, and since you're Italian and you mentioned being raised Catholic, I can't think of a better person to ask: is there a prayer for one's guardian angel in Italian, and how does it go? (As you can guess, it's a Jack/Angelo fic with immense amounts of Catholic guilt!) :^D
!!!! thanks for thinking of me and my catholic guilt! but i stopped going to church after the first comunione (i was maybe 11), and i can remember like 2 prayers
im a fraud and a liar lmao - thankfully no one in my family is really religious
anyway as anyone with access to the internet can do i did google it and i will translate it for you (very roughly!!! plis remember english is not my first language)
✨ catholic resources with iot ✨
1. Angelo di Dio, che sei il mio custode, illumina, custodisci, reggi e governa me, che ti fui affidato dalla pietà celeste. (Angel of God, my guardian, light, guard, lift and guide me, that i was given for you to protect by divine providence)
(saint angel my guardian, i thank you with all my heart of all good things you’ve given me from the first moment of my life until now. please guide me through the path of the divine commandments. light, guard, lift me, so i can escape the sin and do with my actions what my God wants)
(angel of the lord, you’re my guardian as god’s divine providence ordered, guard me through this night and free me from all evil/bad: light my intellect, lift my loved ones, and guide my feelings, so i will not offend my Lord)
i used the world lift for ‘reggete’, its like, hold up, like if someone is leaning on you
last one is a BANGER

i went on a rant about dragons today to the point of physically shaking and trembling (i still am) (my autism is great) and i don't know how much this topic has been discussed on tumblr dot com BUT!! anyhoo...
DRAGONS DO NOT NEED FOUR LEGS AND TWO WINGS TO BE DRAGONS.
IT IS HERALDRY'S FAULT!!!!!! (/hj)
explanation under cut
2-legged 2-winged dragons are my favourites and EEEVERYONE says "wyvern! wyvern!!".. I love wyverns too but what if my tetrapod dragon is A Dragon.
Limb count does not define a dragon..... if that was true, the dragon slain by St. George wouldn't even be a dragon:

(i am aware that there are the 4-leggy depictions, old and new too. but i hope these oldies sell my point,,)
That is a dragon because it was called a dragon!!! It's not a real critter to misidentify either, so it must be what it is said to be.
If we get to have VASTLY different snake basilisks and lizard basilisks and cockatrice basilisks, then why label a dragon based on its limbs? Where is the fun in that?
You can search up "medieval depictions of dragons", and alongside your 'traditional' dragon limb counts, you get the "wyvern" limb counts as well!! And EVEN 4 WINGED DRAGONS!!!!! and oh. Let's not forget these beasts.

Let's (hopefully well) translate the latin on these ones!!
---
"A bipedal dragon caught in the Field of Bononienfi." (2 legs)
"A winged dragon [?] from Greuino Aldro." ? (2 wings)
"A figure from Pareo." (2 legs, 2 wings)
"Ethiopian dragon." (2 legs, 2 wings)
---
I see... three direct dragon mentions, and one referred to as a figure. None of these have four legs and two wings,,, yet are still, clearly, labeled as dragons! Besides, some of those wings there barely even resemble wings. It could be the lack of anatomical knowledge in art as usual back then, but they sure do look like frills if you ask me. frilly wings :]
If I recall correctly, the only old rule for a dragon has always been "big scary serpent that might breathe fire"... (nothing about limbs, but they do add to it, yes!)
⠀
SO MAYBE. maybe we don't need to start label wars on if [a specific dragon] is a wyvern or not. Maybe we should let the creator decide. If they say their dragon is a dragon, then it must be a dragon?
If they themselves say their creature is a wyvern, a lindwurm, a drake or a serpent, then maybe it is? Maybe everyone gets to make a fictional creature that fits their interests, instead of being policed around by someone else who wants strictly distinguishable draconic types?
It's valid to have preferences, but like. don't say "errm that is a wyvern..!" the next time you see a dragon with two legs less than you might like. Art is subjective and dragons live through art. They are mythical creatures with very very VERY diverse designs and depictions, and nobody should ever take that away i think. :D
#do not take this as an attack on the dragon labelers i am a chill guy!!! please read fully before debating.#dragon#dragons#wyvern#medieval dragon#mythology and folklore#just talkin'!

And the final AF attack I managed to finish yesterday! A for AnimalArtist19, I love this goofy little guy so much, the design is so fun and I mean... just look at those silly little leggies! Was a perfect excuse to bust out the acrylic markers again - so the colours are a bit off, but I'm still learning how to use them (and my colour selection is limited). Very fun one, glad I ended on this one :D

How are things wherever you are Mr. P? ALSO EEE HI OPP I'M EXCITED TO SEE WHAT THIS IS ABOOOUT :DDDD
(Hello viewer, to Daydreamer! Puzzle's journal entry.. aka 910-P as he is known as in the facility, this will be a long introductory post! Nice to meet you! Thank you very much for being my first question, I’m using this for the introduction! Hello! My name is Cosmic and I am going to run the new blog!
Daydreamer! Puzzles is going to be my way of practicing my storytelling skills.. I hope you guys like the direction and maybe lore..? Who knows? 💜⭐️ Just know that this Puzzles is a rambler! He likes to use his journal that way He might get.. distracted answering questions.)
"How are things huh.. I’ve been journaling the past few weeks so the answer to your question will be a bit vague."
Yes, you know me as Mr. Puzzles.. the great and renowned, handsome devil you all love but I got my ass kicked, and sent here where I just can’t seem to leave! (Though I’m too stubborn to admit how much)
more below..
In the asylum, I suppose I’ve gotten comfortable.. they treated my injuries despite a few scratches that have healed over these weeks. These weeks that gave me existential dread so far with the first two in those cruel straitjackets!? After a while, only having Leggy 2.0 to talk to.. has been nice at least, and my Therapist.. her name is Dr. McDowell and she’s nice enough.. she doesn’t call me a freak.. at least to my face. I wonder what behavior I have to have to get out of this stupid joint? To not want to kill Mario and his precious friends? It’ll drag me for miles not to have my journal.. (a few pages I’ll admit I wrote) not to kill him. I still want him.. not alive, in friendly terms. As for how I’ve been..? (Looks around at my cell room.. that has the basic accommodations for a mental facility patient) it’s been boring. It’s why I asked them to make this ‘journal entry’ series so I don’t go back.. to the white room. I hate the white room.. d-don’t take me back there. Do ask away.. I’ve got all the time in the world.. I just don’t want the straitjacket back on me. I well.. have started watching TV again and this ‘Invader Zim’ show is my favorite so far.. and Leggy is my little Gir, isn’t that right stardust? We like to sneak out back sometimes.. I’ve really gotten to admire space from our Puzzlevision adventures! (Despicable Mr. Puzzles episode) Hey.. at least they let me keep my hat.. this place is.. free from that pesky SMG4 crew so I’m mostly alone with my thoughts..

thinking about Orlando Bloom basing Legolas' movement on cats and about a truly catlike Legolas:
meowing (singing) loudly in the night while others are trying to sleep. Gimli has to wear cork earplugs because when they ask Legolas to stop, he does for a while. but picks right back up because he forgets minutes later. the others learn to sleep through it
sleeps curled around the warmest member (Gimli) or typically in a pile with the hobbits
primarily vegetarian but can and WILL eat fish at any given opportunity. literally will bow down a fish in a lake and eat it raw skin and bone and all with his bare hands because he thinks it tastes better fresh. somehow he never gets dirty doing it
will lick his minor wounds rather than wash them and if it's somewhere he can't reach he'll look to his friends to do it for him. not one of them will. this makes him sad because he'd happily do it for them if they asked. they don't
tends not to blink around others but once he's comfortable with the fellowship he blinks.....very....slowly...to show he considers them friends
the fellowship has learned that if they can't immediately find him to look somewhere up high
Aragorn, looking up: Hi Las
Leggy, on a high ass pillar no human could climb: Hello my friend :)
Aragorn: What are you doing up there?
Leggy: I am sitting :)
Aragorn: ...are you stuck?
Leggy: I am indeed :)
Aragorn: Do you need help getting down, Legolas?
Leggy: I do :D
Aragorn: Alright stay there. I'll get Boromir. Do NOT try to jump down!
Leggy: I can't promise that I won't :D
#legolas#movie leggy should have been more of a weirdo p3q#let my boy run on snow to go find the sun for his besties

five fic friday
hey, it's been a minute! between anticipation of the new season, the experience of the new season, and some unrelated life stuff, I just haven't gotten around to putting together a post. but today, finally, I'm pulling together some new bookmarks to share :D
all of these have season 2 spoilers, if you are still even following me now that I'm s2 posting 24/7. this week's batch is all smallish canon-era fics:
Place Names (NR, 1328) by @notfromcold - a lovely little bit of hurt/comfort set immediately after s2e4
I knew a monkey once, used to wear the most elegant evening gowns you ever saw. (T, 8k) - a much sillier (but also very sincere) concept for post s2e4, in screenplay form. the crew is a delight in this one.
Leggy Leggy Leggy Leggy (G, 1632) - as the summary says "Stede makes a spider walk the plank. That's it that's the fic."
port in a storm (T, 1722) by @blackbeardskneebrace - a tender little post-s2 moment, Ed dealing with his feelings after a storm, and getting comfort
riding double (M, 4385) by @forpiratereasons - post-s2 horse rustling, featuring Ed's bad knee and horse girl Stede Bonnet. I especially love the Ed voice in this one.
#ofmd#ofmd fic#five fic friday#ofmd s2#going to try to get these queued up the next few weeks at least#there's some good stuff coming out#(as always feel free to send recommendations!)

In conversation with fellow top model Christy Turlington, Karlie Kloss opens up on how being a muse and a mother unlocked the next great chapters of her life
Those in the world of fashion can recall the moment Karlie Kloss appeared on the scene at fifteen with feline, emerald eyes, and a smize that has made her a muse to many.
A walking phenom since her early days of dominating catwalks, campaigns, and covers, the industry has been trying to keep up with Kloss as she makes leggy strides toward her next goals with intent, grace, and the guidance of her fellow supers in the business. For Kloss, that mentor position was filled by none other than Christy Turlington. “She is such a North star for me,” Kloss explains. “For what it could mean to be a model and also use your platform [to promote] things that make a real impact in the world.”
With Kloss now in her early thirties, her activism work and outspokenness echo that of Turlington. The two have walked uncannily parallel paths: both were discovered in their early teens, made the decision to step away from the modeling world to attend college in their early twenties, and now have two kids. Additionally, both have dedicated much of their efforts to their community-driven organizations like Kloss’ Gateway Coalition, focused on reproductive care, and tech education initiatives, Kode with Klossy, and Turlington’s Every Mother Counts. Most recently, Kloss has ventured into new territory, adding another title to her impressive resume by taking on the role of CEO of Bedford Media, overseeing the soon-to-be-revived publications, i-D and LIFE magazine. It seems nothing can stop the force of nature that is Karlie Kloss.
V MAGAZINE: How did you meet? Do you remember that first interaction?
CHRISTY TURLINGTON: You want to tell it, Karlie?
KARLIE KLOSS: The first time I met Christy Turlington, it was almost like a scene out of a movie because I’ve idolized Christy long before ever meeting her, and all that she stood for in the world and the industry. I remember many years of being on shoots and feeling like I got to know you by the stories other makeup artists or hair stylists [would tell me] about the legend of Christy. No Woman, No Cry[Turlington’s 2010 documentary] came out at that time, and you were running marathons…I was always a super fan. She was shooting in the Donna Karan studio over in the West Village. Donna invited me because she knew how much I admired Christy, and I remember walking into Urban Zen where the shoot was happening. I was standing face-to-face with Christy, and I just started crying. I’ve never had that reaction ever again with anyone in the world, but I was so moved and humbled to meet her, and so I just was bawling.
V: Oh, my God! What was your reaction, Christy?
CT: No, it was so sweet! We’ve talked about it a lot since. I feel like you were 15 or 16, you were at the beginning of your career, and you sort of started at the top, so you were very much everywhere. What I remember very specifically about you and Donna’s interaction is that you reminded me of some of my peers when I was around your age, where we would be so invested in the designers and the people we worked with, that every day after the show, we’d pick up WWD. You talked to Donna in a very sophisticated way, giving her commentary on the collection that you had just worn, which was very sweet. I was touched. Donna, I’ve known since the beginning of her career, she’s also such an incredible woman and leader. And I felt in the middle of these two worlds. It was kind of like the confluence of past, present, and future.
V: Do you remember what year that was?
KK: I think that might be in 2008 or 2009.
CT: Yeah, I think it was before I was in school. I was at Columbia, working on my public health degree, and I feel like it was before Every Mother Counts, which was the beginning of my advocacy. But I had small kids, and [embarking] on a direction of where that step was taking me, so I was in a really important transition time, I would say.
V: I’ve seen many moments where you two were together—at events, in campaigns, and on covers—and I read in the New York Times that Christy actually wrote Karlie’s recommendation letter for college.
KK: Yes, for NYU!
V: How did that even happen?
KK: This was before ChatGPT, so she really had to write it! It was so generous of Christy to do that. Even knowing that Christy Turlington— who continues, over many decades, to have an extraordinary fashion career as an iconic supermodel—also cares about her education was so important for me. When I was in my early twenties, I was really nervous about the decision, because I thought, “If I take any amount of time away from my fashion career, will it all disappear?” and Christy was such an important sounding board to prove that [I should] invest in my own education. I couldn’t have done it—and wouldn’t have done it—without Christy’s example and encouragement.
CT: After we met, within a couple of years we started to get together and meet for lunch, and just talk about things. So, when Karlie mentioned that she was interested in going back to school, of course, I was ecstatic for her. When I decided [to get my degree], I was already making a conscious choice of stepping away and slowing down the career at like 10 years in. Karlie was still very much at the height. I think you were already recognizing that you were not as excited about all the things you’d already experienced. So I was really in support of this choice and also tried to give as much of a reality check of what it would feel like, and try to reassure her that the more that she did work on herself, the more in-demand she would be. The more you continue to evolve and invest in yourself, the more people want to be a part of that and want to get closer to you to learn all the different things that you’re now interested in. I think your curiosity, your earnestness, and your seriousness have always been, I think, what stood out to me. I’ve seen it in every phase since we first met. You just continue to evolve in the most natural, thoughtful, and purposeful way.
KK: Wow! This is like a dream. I’m glad this is being recorded. I think on days when I’m having a bad day, I need to look back at this.
KP: So with the both of you going back to school at the heights of your career, Karlie, did you happen to get any pushback at all from people advising the opposite?
KK: I think we all have that little voice in our head that is our own worst enemy, and as a young woman, I doubted myself in all sorts of ways. I was worried that if I made the choice to go back to school, this fairy tale of a fashion career that had happened quite quickly [would disappear]. I just had to trust my gut and kind of ignore what anyone else says. In modeling and fashion, everything changes from one day to the next, and nothing is promised. I had to take that leap of faith and believe that even if this all went away, I had a great time. I met a lot of great people, including my icon, Christy Turlington. Continuing the relationship we have with ourselves and being confident in knowing our power, our worth, and our potential—you can’t go wrong when you lean into who you are and invest in that. At that moment, that was the right thing for me to do.
V: Now at 31, having all that modeling experience and taking those investments in your education, you’ve gone on to start all these organizations. The same goes for Christy with Every Mother Counts, which Karlie has been involved in quite a bit. You went on a trip to Haiti a few years ago. I’d love to know at what point you had the ideas for those organizations.
KK: It’s so funny, I actually had a YouTube channel at the time [where I recorded the trip], I’m going to go back after this and rewatch those videos.
CT: Yes, I forgot about that!
KK: Remember that? Oh, it’s probably so cringe, but I was such a nerd. I was so passionate and excited about being on this trip [to Haiti], it really was a turning point for me in a lot of ways. Christy was so kind to invite me on this trip with some other extraordinary women who have continued to stay in my life, including Sara Blakely, who is one of the most extraordinary, successful female entrepreneurs in this country, and has built a company that has done so much good in so many ways. I think it was such an important trip for me to physically see the work. [Because] we live in New York, it’s easy to kind of feel disconnected from these topics—you go to a charity event and you write a check. But actually going on this trip and seeing where Every Mother Counts was really changing the lives of women in Haiti in the most profound and important of ways, [especially] in that moment of when you’re most vulnerable: bringing your child into the world. I founded Kode with Klossy a year or two later. [That trip] set me on this path and helped show me what could be possible through my own natural curiosity. So after that trip, I went back to NYU and I started taking coding classes, which made me realize there are so many opportunities in the changing world that we live in, and for young women in particular— imagine the problems they could solve with this ability. It started simply like that with 21 scholarships, and next year is our 10th year.
CT: That’s big, that’s huge!
KK: It’s huge! We’ve had more than 10,000 young women and gender expansive teens in our programs over the past years. We’re going to probably have close to 4,000 scholars in our programs this summer alone. You never know the way that you can impact somebody else’s life. I don’t think Christy even probably knew inviting me on that trip would set me on my own journey in such a profound way, and I hope that our Kode with Klossy scholars have a similar experience of wanting to continue to light that spark for others.
CT: I’m a big fan of Bryan Stevenson [social justice activist], and I love the way he speaks about proximity. For me that’s really the truth. I would say through Kode with Klossy, similarly, you want to be with those kids. You want to be in the room where the lights turn on and everyone has that feeling of connectivity and you’re a part of a community. We’ve crossed paths once again in our parallel pathing and that’s through what Karlie is doing now with Gateway Coalition. I think to have younger moms and people coming from the communities that they’re trying to address continue to keep quality care and service [that considers] the full spectrum of reproductive health and rights, it’s going to be even more helpful. I think that’s one of the parallels that we share is the ability to build a community that will ultimately have a greater impact… I can see the multiplier effect happening between coding and technology and the community you’ve built, and also the commitment you’ve made to do this work at this moment. I’m even more excited to see it from this angle because that’s where we intersect more directly than we have in the last few years.
KK: Thank you, Christy. That means a lot. Even in this country, with the lack of access to basic resources and healthcare, I really continue to learn from Christy in so many ways. After I just had my first [child] and came back home, Christy and Grace [Burns], her oldest, came over and met my little guy, and it was just so crazy. Having the entry into motherhood, and having your first child, no matter the resources you have or where you live in this world, it is a profoundly life changing experience, and you have to have your community and village around you. I feel very lucky that Christy and Grace are now in my village.
V: I love that. You know, we actually recently photographed Grace for our V GIRLSseries.
CT: Yeah, that’s right. She loved that! In LA, right?
KP: Yes, that was it. We first saw Grace on TikTok, and I found out that she recently shot a campaign, too, for Tamara Mellon.
CT: Yeah, she’s doing a lot of shooting, and she’s shooting friends right now in Spain. I sort of marvel at Karlie, and how much she’s able to take on. Seeing her do all the things, it appears effortless, but I know it’s not. Then, with my daughter who’s 21 in October, it’s like really another full circle. She’s in class full time, she’s publishing books of poetry, shooting campaigns, and being shot in campaigns, I’m like, “Of course, you can do that because Karlie is your [role model].” So it’s a very direct correlation in the way that we’re all continuing to inspire and care for and support one another.
KK: Yes, I’m in that phase where my three-year-old at three in the morning last night was all of a sudden in my bed and I didn’t sleep, and I’m like, “Okay, this is my life.”
CT: Aw! And the thing is, it doesn’t end, you know? Everyone had a mother in order to come into the world, and no matter what age or where you are, and what station you are in your life, your mother continues to worry, care, and be there ready for the call, just always there for you. I think that’s the part that’s so relatable, regardless of one’s decision to have a child or not have a child, which is why it’s so important to support that regardless. You see how important that is for the folks who don’t have it, and folks that do, and the difference that creates in terms of an opportunity for success and for people to thrive in their lives.
V: What are some of the ways you both see the results of all of your efforts through the mothers and the women that you’re helping directly?
CT: I get to hear a lot from mothers. We support mostly providers, from community-based folks that are community health workers, doulas or midwives, and also physicians. When I see people who are working at the community level—which is where we mostly are invested—they’re the people at the front lines. They’re the people who are not turning folks away, especially now that things are harder and more precarious, dangerous, and potentially riskier. They’re still there, and they are not going anywhere. Those are the people that give me the most motivation. I feel like our purpose really is to try to uplift them and give them the support and care that they need to continue to meet their communities where they are.
KK: That’s why unrestricted funding matters. Because I’ve also run a nonprofit with Kode with Klossy, and I know when you put that trust in the leader of that community who is providing that care, they’re going to do what they can to allocate these funds in the most high-impact ways. With Kode with Klossy, there are more than 10,000 young people who are now in the world’s workforce, and they’re not just young teenage women with dreams, they’re actually pursuing their passions. It’s really for me what always has been most important: self-realization more so than like a technical skill set. Of our alumni in college, more than 70% of them go on to major or minor in computer science, which is crazy to me. That to me is such an indicator that Kode with Klossy really reaches them in a moment where they’re deciding what doors the world could open for them. Especially now with every industry being impacted and needing to evolve, this basic technical literacy is crucial. To see how that plays out in their lives, and also how they bring that back to the community of Kode with Klossy—they come back and help teach in our camps, and they go on to build apps and projects that are impacting their communities, and solving problems that reach many people that are far beyond even just Kode with Klossy. So it’s pretty awesome.
CT: I was just thinking about Haiti because I hadn’t thought about it in so long–you don’t have any photos from that trip, do you?
KK: I do! I’m gonna find those.
CT: If you do, that would be fun to revisit, because we have so many photos from events and things that aren’t that exciting and we’ve only shot professionally together, really, once.
V: Yup, it was your Cole Haan campaign.
CT: It was a while ago. Then we did Edward [Enninful’s] last cover [for British Vogue]. Otherwise, most of our life has been doing other things. But we’re connected through it and it’s really lovely. I love our story, Karlie.
KK: I love our story. Well, maybe we need to do a V shoot together.
V: Let’s please do it!
CT: Next Mother’s Day!
KK: Exactly!

I translated some of my Warrior OCs a bit ago! Four of them are part of one family, and the other is my tabaxi ranger with a warrior's name! I don't know if they're correct, but I wanted to give it a shot!
Clovershine - Glemshem (Her name ended up super cute to say! She's the Mi of Cricket and Fawn!)
Alderpelt - Reykossaborrl (There wasn't a word specifically for Alder, so I combined red and tree! This guy is Clover's mate and the very involved Ba of Cricket and Fawn!)
Fawnfrost - Myaachiki (Myaa sounded cuter than Mween, so I used that instead! Fawny is my main girl I rped and invested a lot of trauma in! :D)
Cricketcall - ???ayeo (Sadly no word for cricket, and I couldn't find words to combine for it. Maybe bell and bug? Idk, I just think this guy is neat! He and his dad and Fawn's mentor all die in a terrible sickness, hence her trauma! :DD)
Emberstrike - Kipkubo (A bit of a stim of a name, tbh. She's the ranger, I love her so much and I wish her campaign didn't fall through...)
CRICKET TIME.
So the first thing to know here is that the Clan cat idea of crickets may be somewhat different to your own.
If you're American, you may have a distinction in your mind that a cricket is usually a singing, hopping bug with a more rounded head, where grasshoppers are longer and more locust-shaped. That isn't the case in this part of Britan/Albion. In fact, grasshoppers are the ones better known for their singing abilities.
See this?

This is a house cricket. They're very rare in this region, and mostly live in human houses, as the name implies. Clan cats do not have a word for these.
THIS is what they're imagining when they hear the word cricket;
This green, stout, long-legged insect is called a Speckled Bush-Cricket. They have three species of bush-cricket and five species of hopper.
Generic terms;
Bush-cricket (generic) = Pwoi Named for the sound they make while jumping, as opposed to how hoppers are named for the song. Sometimes gets applied to other rounded, hopping insects, like fleas.
Hopper (generic) = Chrriga Long, powerful insects with loud chirping wails that they make by rubbing their legs against themselves. Found on the ground and in grass, unlike bush-crickets which are usually arboreal.
Popper (a hopping insect suitable for eating) = Arroi Subjective, WindClan tends to use this as a generic for both hoppers and bush-crickets, ShadowClan applies it to all big ones, RiverClan and ThunderClan don't use it at all (except Sorreltail who uses it for any hoppers she's caught and plans to eat).
Hopper Poppers = Pwoi k'sirArroi A WindClan dish. Mashed, breaded-and-egged, deep fried cricket balls. Related to grubcakes, but these INCLUDE breadcrumbs for a crunch. Kind of unhealthy, but a good source of fat which is otherwise lacking in the WindClan diet.
Specific species;
For funsies I'm going to give them a culinary rating, maximum of four stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐. I'm being possessed by the spirit of BB!Sorreltail lmao.
Roesel's bush-cricket (Roeseliana roeselii) = I'ri'r THE undeniable sound of summer, buzzing long and loud when it gets hot. This animal is the most uncanny mix between a hopper and a bushcricket and has a distinctive sound, so it's rarely referred to with a generic title. ⭐⭐⭐ It is also large and meaty. Best of both worlds, right here. Most palatable bush-cricket.
Speckled bush-cricket (Leptophyes punctatissima) = Rr'ik Though its cry is delicate and high-pitched like a bat, it's noteworthy for being the only one in this family that sings mutually. Female crickets return a song to a male they like. ⭐⭐ They're small, but gooey. WindClan sometimes skips mashing them because they're SO leggy, they prefer to just pull the bits off and eat the body. Like a gusher. But that's so much effort, you know?
Drumming Katydid (Meconema thalassinum) = Kugr Has a low, almost threatening grinding noise, which is fitting because it is an active predator. The only one in this list. It kills and eats caterpillars and other invertebrates, but that's not all. It's also a host for a horrible parasite that forces it to run towards water at the end of its life, drowning the animal before bursting out of its body. ⭐ Tastes awful. Possessed by worms. All legs and no meat. Only ShadowClan would eat something like this.
Common Field Grasshopper (Chorthippus brunneus) = Gyig WindClan's bread-and-butter, one of the most common insects they need to eat to keep their coats healthy. Has a chirping song instead of a drawn-out one. HATES wetness and is best found where the gorse is dead and dry. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ A favorite for a reason. It's abundant, it's meaty, it's large. It can even be purple.
Green Grasshopper (Omocestus viridulus) = F'fir Green with thick black bars on its abdomen, with a harsh, fluttering song. Tends to find a high pedestal before playing its song, as if it's trying to get in front of an audience. ⭐⭐⭐ Has more crunch than meat, with big wings that can get in the way, but still a hopper which is pretty delicious.
Slender grouse locust (Tetrix subulata) = Sswoi Dull brown thing that doesn't even sing. Has a dumb little wiggle-dance instead. Loves streams and lidos and is the hopper that RiverClan cats see most often. ⭐ No wonder RiverClan doesn't eat bugs.
Meadow Grasshopper (Pseudochorthippus parallelus) = Shriga Some of them can look deceptively like a f'fir with the green bodies and barring, but listen. Listen. Its song is TOTALLY different, more of a shakey-shake kind of rattle. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ And Sorreltail will GO TO BAT for how delicious they are. Don't be fooled. This is grasshopper ambrosia. Tiny wings, lots of crunch, a nice flavor. ABSOLUTE delicacy.
Groundhopper (Tetrix undulata) = Wariga A plump, brown grasshopper that eats moss and algae, preferring wet environments with drier areas to retreat to. ⭐⭐⭐??? Data needed. ShadowClan cats kept SWEARING to Sorreltail that these are actually the best, most delicious poppers out there. But she's never had one so she can't attest to it... yet. It's hard to imagine anything can taste better than a honey-roasted shriga. She doubts it tbh.
