#aro#aromantic#ace#asexual#aroace#alloaro#it feels like there’s this weird mindset of#if a character is aro then they MUST be ace too#and if they’re aroace then the ace part is all that matters!#and of course aplatonicism is never even mentioned as a possibility in fandom spaces (even with characters like Saiki who is apl coded af)#hell. even with real life people who have come out as aromantic#if someone comes out as aromantic they’re assumed to be asexual as well#and if someone is openly aroace it’s very common that people emphasize the ace part over the aro part#and while I get that some people do talk more about their asexuality than their aromanticism#it’s still weird to me that like#for example#Yasmin Benoit is one of the most prolific aromantic activists AND one of the most prolific asexual activists#yet I rarely ever see people mention that she’s aromantic or aroace. Everyone always just says “oh she’s asexual” and leaves it at that#her aromantic activism seems to just get ignored even with how much of it she’s done#when trying to find news sources talking about aromanticism for a research project about half of them were interviews#with Yasmin Benoit! she’s done so much work for the aromantic community#yet even in her Wikipedia article which describes her as an “asexual and aromantic activist” in the very first sentence#the section on her activism doesn’t include the words aromantic or aromanticism even ONCE.#like. yeah she does emphasize her asexuality a lot more than her aromanticism. but her aromantic activism should be acknowledged too

Don't mistake my dislike of B/llford as being for any moral reason; I don't care what people ship and even have a few friends who enjoy it! I just think their dynamic is so much more interesting without any romantic interpretation attached, and I always get a little sad when I'm looking at something involving that and it veers into 'haha they're divorced/exes/whatever'. Like aww, aro-blocked :(

#The Teller of Small Fortunes#aroaessidhe 2024 reads#this was okay#to be honest I didn’t get very attached to any of the characters - I found most of them a bit one dimensional.#(I kept forgetting the cat even existed - why keep mentioning the magical cat in the promo if it’s barely there!!!)#And not feeling much for the characters meant I struggled to feel much about everything else about the story honestly#The exploration of being diaspora in a foreign country & experiences of racism & her relationship with her mother was probably the most#interesting to me.#I always give cozy fantasy a chance but honestly I need it to be deeply introspective or maybe like really funny#it’s just a bit too light for me? (other than the racism and xenophobia - I’m glad to see more of that in this space)#It’s just I think not deeply enough for me - and combined with not feeling attached to the characters I just wasn’t feeling it#Also one of the reasons I picked this up was because I was seeing people say it has an asexual MC and let me just say-#it has a very vaguely AROace CODED mc#If you’re looking for it there’s a few lines of implications but it’s not super clear and also any mention is romance related - aro! not ac#There were SO many instances that would have been an opportunity to bring up aro/aceness and the choice to not do that#felt sightly strange to me?. however tdlr readers could be promoting this on it having no romance and focusing on#friendship/family instead of saying it has an ace MC which is….only there if you squint#no romance#***other than side characters being married and also:#There’s a minor subplot where a side character has a crush on another SC which is unrequited#and there’s a bit of a confrontation after which he backs off. but then it’s implied they might get together in the end :(#which was unnecessary! come on!#I always find fantasy characters inventing real life foods slightly odd but at least this one is more from the author’s culture#anyway. it's okay! just didn't really end up being for me

#shut up danni's talking#i should make a dragon age liveblog tag maybe bc inquisition is making me feel things#like i was already sucked in w the first two games but inquisition upped the game in some areas#danni liveblogs dragon age#anyways. one of my very minor pet peeves in da is that you get new companions every single game and very very few stick around#so i wasn't expecting to like a lot of the companions in inquisition and that kinda came true considering i have mixed opinions on like.#at least three of them i think. two for certain but one im still unsure abt#those are solas and sera w the other being cole#so i am INCREDIBLY pleased to be like new fave#bc i didn't really have one in 2 it sort of ended up being fenris i liked best but not enough to feel so strongly abt#my new fave btw is dorian he's just so dramatic and though he's prideful its not to an extent that it becomes a vice its endearing#he knows when to push it away sometimes and its great#my favourite non-companion is krem tho#he's so cool#not bc he's trans which he IS and i love him for it but bc he's just really a nice character????#slightly disappointed he's voiced by a woman but his voice actor is one of my favourite game voice actors so i have conflicting opinions#(its jennifer hale. she did female shepard in mass effect and rivet in ratchet and clank)#my second fave companion is varrick he's just. a wonderful friend and i love him.#he's so aro-coded and i love that for him. genuinely would love to be his bestie irl#he's also so supportive of hawke and the inquisitor he's like 'hell this one gets into all kinds of shit i have GOT to be there for them'#anyways. back to dragon age lol
