I’m excited for echoes of wisdom, what about you?

Starring: my alttp Zelda (left) and albw Zelda (right), because I’m not sure yet which one is in Echoes of Wisdom.

In Echoes of Courage, their main difference is that Artisan’s Zelda is more likely to fistfight you behind the milk bar in heels whereas Collector’s Zelda is more likely to verbally eviscerate you.

Actually what the hell is going on with the sword in EoW. Because I'm getting either "Link's soul has become bound to the sword and his body is an empty husk being used as a vessel" or "This sword is so powerful / magic it shapes the wielder in its image, which is Link."

playing echoes of wisdom. this game really says "Courage is charging into a horde of enemies armed with nothing but a sword, a shield, and your wits; but Wisdom is sitting on top of a cliff and sending out disposable murder drones (ie: peahats) to kill for you"

Anyway since Zelda is the player character in Echoes of Wisdom, what I'm excited to see if we get to name HER instead of Link like we usually do. Yes all the interesting things about the world are amazing as well, and I'm excited for all of that. But will we get to name Zelda whatever we wish?

I’m not sure I can say I’m excited for Echoes of Wisdom (I won’t be buying it Day 1, but I’ll play it eventually) but I can sure as hell say I’m excited that Nintendo took the time to craft a Zelda-centric story that didn’t turn her into a Girlboss™️.

Like, the modern trend for this sort of thing would make Link incompetent and have Zelda be completely OP (Star Wars, Marvel, most Disney properties actually…). But Nintendo didn’t take the low-hanging fruit every other franchise seems to have taken lately. Link rescuing Zelda even as he is being trapped is the exact type of setup that lets her be the MC without destroying Link’s character.

And her abilities fit her established character! Zelda is the bearer of Wisdom, of course it’s all about Magic and solving puzzles more than anything. Even her sword fighter form seems to fall under utilizing an echo of Link’s skills rather than her being inexplicably good at it.

Just… good job Nintendo. You did it. You made Zelda a female playable character in an established franchise without destroying or removing the male lead.
