WHAT IS THIS AU? HOW DOES IT WORK?

A brief (I'm lying, this is a long post) explanation post for this AU for anyone new <3

As I've mentioned before, this AU is based on the theory that Papyrus is (was) Gaster. I did not create this theory, it has existed for a long time nd I'm also not the first person to do something like this with the concept—I'll touch up on that later.

About the Papyrus is Gaster theory

I've looked up a lot of stuff about it but I don't actually know where it originated. It's not super popular but if you're a Papyrus theorist you might have heard of it before!

It is not a super serious theory, it's more about pointing out the weird connections and similarities between Papyrus and Gaster and giving an explanation to the many weird things about Papyrus and his lack of backstory.

Just to mention some things:

Them both speaking in capital letters, having no asterisks, their weird way of phrasing things, Papyrus being described as forgettable, Papyrus hating hotland, him pretending he doesn't know about a lot of stuff ( The lab for example, he know what a lab is but pretends he doesn't in front of Sans), Gaster being related to hands and Papyrus never taking his gloves off, Papyrus weird connection with phones (his photo-graphic memory for phone calls) and Gaster's weird connection to phones(Fun events related to phones, and getting the garbage noise when using the phone in a darkwolrd), their love for puzzles (The CORE is a giant puzzle), THAT one quote that I still find misterious “beside, it’s rude to talk about people that are listening, right? not everyone is as though as my brother”, Papyrus DOES have Gaster blasters it's pretty much canon even if a lot of people ignore it, Papyrus is very smart—he's knowledgeable on many subjects and knows how to build many things— he's the character with the MOST dialogue in the game yet we don't know a lot of stuff about him OR his past, he breaks the laws of physics and of the game, and he's not yet in deltarune! The heavily Gaster connected game!

That's some of the things I could think about, and look, yeah... I'm probably looking way too much into it and these are all just coincidences! The weird Papyrus things can be related to other stuff! But I still like this theory, not because I think it's real but because I LOVE the possibilities!!!

About how this AU works

This au is basically a

"Pretend this theory is real! How would the Undertale timeline work then?"

We're giving Papyrus his backstory while also making a Gaster-focused story at the same time!

This AU imagines how the Papyrus is Gaster theory situation could play out! (And I'll also add some of my other favorite ut theories as a treat)

Papyrus used to be Wingdings and then Wingdings shattered across time and space, Papyrus and Gaster are different separate people.

Actually I kind of, treat Wingdings before and after the accident as different people also... you change a lot when you become an omnipresent being....Wingdings, Gaster and Papyrus I treat them all as different people.

"How did Gaster become Papyrus?"

He didn't "become" Papyrus just like that. After he shattered, he stopped existing the way he did before, he became a being in another layer of the game! But! physically his body was just there...

This is based on how the Goners and Gaster followers have counterparts that are not, uh, goners. A non-distorted version of them existing separately

Papyrus was just kind an empty shell at first. He still kept parts of Wingdings original personality but his Papyrus personality developed on his own with time!

"How did Gaster shatter across time and space?"

Usually everyone agrees it was because he fell into the CORE

Not here! I don't think the CORE caused his accident, it is a power source not a time and space altering machine. In this story, it was some other thing he was working on....

I've seen some people tell me this is a good idea for an AU and I agree!! I love this idea SO much, but as I said before I didn't create this concept or theory I just love it a lot!!

I really thought there would be more people that used this concept before but I couldn't find much... so I'm just making it myself!

Hi, it's me again, haha! How would the UT and US Bros react to their s/o being bullied?

Sans:

He keeps his calm, typical blank face when he sees your bully teasing you

Really quite a convincing poker face

Until he steps in and introduces himself. He shakes their hand, sending an electric jolt through them, puts whoopee cushions down where they sit, he even makes some mean spirited jokes

Not enough that the person could get in his face and be considered justified

But enough for the bully to feel embarrassed and humiliated

Soon they scamper off, feeling the same way they made you feel

After that Sans drags you off to Grillbys, nothing like a burger and ketchup to eat at while your both enjoying each other’s company

Papyrus:

He steps in firmly, but not harshly

Papyrus doesn’t like bullies, and he’s not going to let one harass his s/o without consequences

Those consequences are social embarrassment

He very loudly asks if the bully is okay, it’s really not normal for a grown adult to say such rude things!

Papyrus says it loud enough that everyone in the near vicinity has started giving the bully dirty looks

Once they’ve fled, Papyrus turns to you and makes sure your okay

“DON’T LISTEN TO THEM! THEY DON’T KNOW YOU AT ALL!”

Blue (us sans):

He’s a little ways away from you when your bully approaches so he doesn’t catch the first hurtful words

He does catch your upset look out of the corner of his eye socket

He immediately appears behind you, grabbing your hand and trying to drag you away before the bully makes you cry

Then that foolish, foolish bully mutters a quiet insult. Just loud enough for you and him to hear

Blue tenses up, pulls his face into the most shocked, upset, dramatic look he can manage

Big tears well up in his sockets as he turns around and loudly asks “WHY WOULD YOU SAY THAT ABOUT ME?!”

Everyone around you two immediately turns in the bully. Even though they don’t know what made Blue so upset

Whilst the bully’s getting growled at Blue quickly drags you away

He’s a little embarrassed that he did that, but it was worth it to see the bullys face pale

And of course to make you happy

Stretch (us paps):

He clocks the mean look in the bullies eye and steps in between you two before they can say anything

Stretch keeps you attention on him as he quickly drags you away from the bully before you even realise they’re there

Stretch has dealt with a lot of assholes in his years, and by now he’s figured that you just cant give them any attention

Though he does shoot a deadly glare at them over his shoulder

That should be all the intimidation he needs

- dark cacao met you when he gained time to go outside for some fresh air. He didn't know where he'd go, he simply wanted some fresh air and a place to calm down. Due to his current stress about many things (king duties), he has mindlessly walked to the near shore of the licorice sea

- usually the near shore of the sea remains empty, until he spots.. a cookie ? no, a cookie with fins perhaps. Though he wouldn't really call them a cookie ..

- thought of you as a threat at first until you've proven yourself to be innocent, claiming to only watch the snowlions from a far distance, even offering him to watch alongside you. They look quite peaceful when they aren't attacking cookies !

- he'd watch you leave into the deeper depth of the sea after some time, until you return the following day hoping to see the king once more, something about your presence alone felt.. peaceful for the ancient king, as he returns to the cacao kingdom with a clearer mind.

- dark cacao doesn't have much time to relax, nor does he have the time to go outside. He trains in the citadel and handle paperwork afterwards, so meeting each other would be a rare occurrence (hence you both enjoy your time together, talking about recent events and whatnot)

- the lonesome king grew fond of your presence overtime, he knew it was wrong, the licorice sea is known for its dangerous monsters, and to meet and to even think about dating a merperson, much so from the licorice sea, what would that say to him as the king of the dark cacao kingdom ?

- and yet a part of him didn't care, why should he ? when you're the only one that he can truly feel comfortable and let low his position as king for a while. To meet someone who sees him to be equal then their king is quite refreshing, even if the someone isn't a cookie (he doesn't care anyways !)

- 'its quite weird to grow such emotion for a merperson' he thinks, 'and yet.. they bring me back to the old days..'

- he misses his fellow ancient friends a lot, considering what had happened beforehand, he feels the same comfort and joy he used to feel with you around, except its more.. intimate than being friends

- when you two do get together, he squeezes in more time in his schedule to see you almost every day, and you both would watch snowlions together

- would prefer to keep your relationship secret, he wants to save himself in explaining why he fell for a creature from the licorice sea (also because the watchers probably wouldn't understand, or would gossip about the topic)

- caramel arrow was the only one to find out actually, and, to the king's relief, she saved him trouble in explaining after figuring out you two were together, she thinks it's very rude to question a king's personal life, even if uts questionable to some.

Heyy i have like, 2 chains and one of every other bitty say for the wispuffs(both lamia and field) and I've been thinking of adopting again, whats the best bitty for a massive household? So there's this really important rhythm in the UT/DR soundtrack that is as follows: dotted-eighth sixteenth tied to another eighth, followed by another eighth tied to a sixteenth, followed by a dotted eighth then two straight eighths.

This originates in Penumbra Phantasm, as shown here (doubled in length)

We (me and my insane deltarune theorist roommate, @bigsco-official) first realized that this was in ASGORE's bassline, seen here

It's already been shown (very well) that this rhythmic motif is in Hopes and Dreams

I was curious how many other UT/DR songs had this rhythm, so I started at the beginning of the complete piano score. Lo and behold, the main accent pattern for Enemy Approaching

This also means that anything that riffs off of Enemy Approaching also has it by default, including Dating Tense

Bring It In, Guys!

and maaaaaaayyyyyybe Rude Buster (this one's more sound based, but the rhythm is there source: trust me)

But there are some more interesting songs where it's prevalent, namely in Run!'s bassline (uses rests instead of ties, but the rhythm is still the same)

This leaks over into Battle Against a True Hero, where it comprises a significant portion of the main melody

While we're talking about genocide route, Power of "NEO" is ONLY comprised of this rhythm

Within Deltarune, Chaos King's bassline has this

It's also in Lost Girl (and by extension, findher.ogg)

and also Ferris Wheel

And Girl Next Door too

And of course because it's found in Power of "NEO", it's in Big Shot

So what does this actually mean? It means Toby loves this rhythm and it sounds good @bigsco-official theorizes that: The data that we currently have, both narrative and musical leads us to a glaringly obvious but also fairly boring conclusion: Toby Fox loves to use the Doctor/Penumbra Phantasm motif. Considering that he has, in the past stated that George Buzinkai's Doctor was a "turning point for me as a musician," it feels like Toby has used this motif and rhythm out of a labor of love. For most of the songs in this list, especially those related to UNDERTALE, we are do not believe that the Doctor motif has major significance to tell in the story--it's just a neat part of how Toby uses and reuses motifs. When it comes to DELTARUNE, we might be able to extrapolate a bit more information as Penumbra Phantasm might have more connections. It's a stretch, but considering the name of the song (as well as Toby's automatic response to the song being "S H A T T E R T H E T W I L I G H T R E V E R I E," it is entirely plausible that it will end up having some connection to the game--and that's what we want to know. We're going to go through all three of the songs quickly and see what we can't extrapolate. BIG SHOT is easy to get out of the way. The only Penumbra rhythm is from the Power of NEO countermelody, so the concept of UNDERTALE songs being a labor of love to the motif applies. Chaos King is an interesting one. Centered as the rhythm in the bassline, it could show a further connection to the character that the Penumbra motif belongs to, although that is yet obscure. Obviously Chaos King references the Knight many a time--and perhaps could be some counter evidence to Nightmare Knight being the Roaring Knight's main theme. Now it's time for what you've probably been waiting for, which is the Lost Girl motif, present in Girl Next Door, Lost Girl, Ferris Wheel, findher.ogg, and the unused sneaking.ogg. While perhaps less direct than other quotes, it audibly riffs off of the main Penumbra melody and therefore seems to connect both Noelle (and by extension, Dess) directly to it. Some speculation (and some very nice fansongs) believe that Penumbra will be the theme for the final confrontation against the ANGEL'S HEAVEN, this could provide some evidence in that direction--especially considering Noelle being referred to as an angel multiple times over. It could also lead directly into a confrontation theme against Noelle, perhaps during future weird routes. Only time will tell how it specifically will come to use, but it seems that it is most intentionally used around Noelle (and again, by extension, Dess) and can be added to the insurmountable evidence that Noelle is going to be a main plot driver moving forward in DELTARUNE's story.

theres this guy at my college- we share like one class that i have every monday, wednesday and friday.

im VERY fem presenting at the moment and everyone assumes im a cis girl first meet and so he started flirting with me.

i told i was dating someone (im not) and that i liked girls (im bi and prefer women) but he still asked for my number so we could be friends. i like already had my phone out and it was unlocked bc i was using it (to try and ignore him) and iwas gonna pretend to give him my number while i was actually gonna give him a fake number-

nico is the fairiest of them all, so beautiful and precious that keke decides no one will see him until he reaches the age to be weaded. nico is so lonely poor thing! no one sees him but also no one listens to him, he has a reputation of being cold and unforgiving but it’s just because he can’t trust anyone!

enter knight lewis, who was tasked to protect the princess at all cost. lewis has heard about this bitchy omega and isn’t too keen on listening whining all day. but then he gets introduced to nico and doesn’t hear him at all appart from the good mornings nico says each day! so lewis is intrigued and also needs nico’s voice to proctect him, to know where he’s at! so he starts asking nico questions about miscellaneus stuff like what’s the weather like and what dress is he wearing today and how about he tells lewis about his geography classes? nico is so shocked! he has never been interesting to somebody before. so in turn he starts asking lewis questions about his family, the job, the town.

they start to grow attracted to each other. nico can see lewis and from the first minute thought he was very handsome, but lewis doesn’t know how nico looks at all!

one night after the palace is asleep, nico asks lewis help to take his dress off and lewis obviously complies. nico asks him then to take him to bed, all while lewis is still blindfolded. they make love so tenderly and when they are finished and kissing lazily on the bed, nico drags lewis blindfold off and smiles, a little nervous. lewis is in awe! he now gets why the princess was so protected and swears to nico he will never let someone else touch him.

when nico tells keke he wants to be wed to this knight keke is a little shocked and tries to convience him to change his mind, but after seeing nico’s face when he sees lewis and lewis softness when he grazes at nico’s face, like it could be the last time he sees it and wants to commit it to memory, keke accepts and starts the wedding planning!!

Oh pls! When nico's reputation starts growing, Keke just wants him to be safe and is maybe a little overprotective in making sure no one sees Nico! People think Nico is cold and rude but he is just so unsure because all the times he went against his papa in the past and got too close to someone, all they ended uo caring about was to be with the most beautiful princess and Nico got his heart broken...

Knight Lewis being tasked to protect Nico and stays close to his side at all times, which means being blindfolded most of the day but he finds he doesn't mind so much. Nico is interesting and has a lot of interesting views and opinions which Lewis likes listening too, and whilr Nico talks, it's easier for Lewis to know where Nico is.

They get along really well and both fall for the other without saying anything at first. Nico wants Lewis to see him so bad tho! He has thought Lewis was handsome from day 1 but he thinks it's unfair Lewis is still blindfolded around him even if they are so close. One night, when Lewis isntelling Nico good night, nico asks for help with his dress, taking it off him and Nico brings Lewis's hands to his body, let's him feel his skin as Nico leans in to kiss him. Lewis whispering they don't have to do this... maybe they shouldn't even but he complies so easily when nico leads him to the bed because he wants it too. They make love so tenderly, holding each other so close ut Lewis still doesn't ask to see him, won't ever pressure Nico. But when they are laying in bed again after, nico reaches out to take the blindfold off. There isn't that much light in the room, just from some candles, but Lesis can see Nico clearly still. Lewis whispering he is beautiful, but he has always thought so because Nico's soul is beautiful too and he got to know that first! Pls Nico kissing him again and being so so happy!

Keke is quite shocked when Nico asks to marry lewis and wants to refuse, thinks Lewis tricked Nico but then he sees the soft looks the two share, the clear love and of course he can't deny his son anything !

now this one is slightly more esoteric, but bear with me-

3. The Counterarguments

This first one is easy to move past, and a fairly weak argument overall, but it involves, in particular, catti:

pretty suspect right? until you consider the surrounding dialogue

She's an edgy goth teen- this is in reference to her family being loud.

again pretty convincing right? not really no:

"studying the occult" from a goth teen is about as reliable as it sounds- and on the same level as the party tricks from earlier.

the second counterpoint is something along the lines of "but what about noelle and snowgrave"

to which the obvious answer is: we already know one line of spells from the "Dragon Blazers" games, it isnt much of a stretch for snowgrave be the metaphorical firaga to flare of final fantasy

Another relatively tame explanation could be that our monster allies simply *know* spells upon entering the Dark World (Susie with Rude Buster, Berdly with his Tornado) and snowgrave is either something she acquired through the route (Like susie with ultimate heal) and REALLY doesn't want to use, or a spell she simply actually doesn't know.

The other two counterpoints however, are harder to dismiss, and they have specifically to do with monster biology

Monster Funerals, technically speaking

While not directly stated in game, its a fairly reasonable assumption to make that the reason monsters turn to dust when they die is their lack of physical matter. Where this becomes relevant is through Father Alvin's infamous line about "this hammer" which implies that the burial tradition (and thus the physicality) remains constant between the two games. This would imply that, in-spite of the food and bathrooms, monsters are still made mostly of magic (further obscured by the lack of confirmation on monster blood we have)

2. Blookster

Let's assume for a second that monsters are physical. That they are confirmed to have blood and dont turn into dust and all that comes with it. Then what about Ghosts?

Little bit of story time :

I was actually online on Reddit back when this was posted, and saw it in "new" on the r/Undertale subreddit & quickly read through it just a couple hours after it was published.

Funnily enough, every single point made in that post was something that i had already addressed and disproven in UNAP a few months prior. (UNAP is an analysis project of mine regarding the UT narrator, currently 300+ pages of pure text long, still unpublished.) To be blunt, Dark's post didn't bring up any new points to the table at all as far as NarraChara theory is concerned, it was really just regurgitating older remarks from other people over the years in a more formatted way. So it was never much of a 'debunk' there anyways...

I actually remember sitting there in front of my computer for a good 5-10 minutes, wondering wether or not i should copy paste all of the relevant parts of UNAP into the comment section since well, i had already written out everything so that wouldn't take more than 20 seconds to do.

But at the time, i had just gotten done with a big UT lore related argument already, and you could clearly see from the comment section that OP was an extremely stubborn (and honestly kinda toxic ?) person. Meaning that given the sheer size of what i would be pasting, i might be signing myself into at least 10h of Reddit arguing before they'd be convinced which didn't sound very fun for me at the time.

Since at that point, i checked their profile history and saw that OP had barely just recently gotten back into Undertale a few weeks prior & that i also didn't really wanna spoil contents that were to be part of UNAP that early, i eventually figured that it wasn't worth the effort and just let it be instead. In other words, i got lazy, imagining that this person would either eventually realise the problems with their post by themself or (more likely) just lose interest in the topic altogether.

Unfortunately, as it turned out, i was wrong about that last part.

Dark later on went out to become an active, but also one of the most insulting and toxic (& often confidently-stating-openly-incorrect-things-in-a-lot-of-topics) member of the UT theorist community on not only just Reddit, but also a few other media like Twitter as well. (Although never quite reaching the toxicity level of a certain other person either.) I don't intend to be rude to Dark's nor to sound entitled here, but they are frankly just not a good theorist neither by game knowledge nor by their behavior with others and i would be being dishonest if i pretended otherwise here or just ignored the "toxic behavior" part of them altogether.

Frankly, now, i kinda regret that i didn't prevent all that from happening when i had the chance... Maybe if i hadn't gotten lazy that day and pasted a response as soon as it was posted, things could have turned out a bit different for them.

Honestly, I sort of blame myself for letting darkmarxsoul become what they are now.

So let me get this straight:

-Patience is a mostly stoic girl who has a neutral morality and is only like this because of the way that she was raised.

-Bravery is a headstrong, but ultimately kind boy who is very reckless and loves the thrill of adventure.

-Integrity is very down-to-earth and distrustful of adults, either because of how her parents treated her or because of the adults that she encountered throughout her life, but she is very kind to other kids.

-Perseverance is a very curious kid that only puts on their "grumpy face" when something goes wrong or when someone does something wrong, but is still a good kid at heart that also has a penchant for exploring and collecting things that they find interesting.

-Kindness is somewhat mean on first encounter, but is actually very sweet when cooking and food is involved.

-Justice is a very polite kid that loves cowboys, especially the hats.

I feel as though you’ve just dumbed down my words.

Just to make this EXTREMELY CLEAR, all these children are complex beings. Doing both good and bad actions. Some unaware while others are very much aware. Having more to them than just being the full personification of their soul trait. Would be sort of lame if that’s all they were. Not to mention have all them be so nice or polite.

They’re children. Living human beings that can’t be labeled as one thing. They will always be a cluster of things. Of course they can be good. They can also be rude, selfish, selfless, considerate. All of it.

I’d also like to say that in all their perceptions, this is the REAL WORLD. Not a game like how Frisk would perhaps see it. The only one that would have the same perception as them is Perseverance. Why? Just because.

There’s really nothing more to it than that. And in truth, I’m really not fully into UT at this time. So this is the best I can give you to quench your thirst for it.

Undertale Drabbles: Alphys & Toriel - Looks Like Fun

Summary: Alphys worries in a Spirit Halloween.

[A/N] It's been so long since I last did a UT drabble that I'm pretty sure I didn't even have a separate blog for my writing last time I did one. But anyway, Halloween drabble, yay!

Offense would probably be not only an understandable response but one that would be well warranted too. Humans dressing up as monsters for fun after locking them Underground so long ago, that was rather rude, right? It could easily be construed as them making fun of monsters. But in practice it was all just too silly to stir much rage in Alphys.

It probably helped that she’d known this holiday was coming. She’d studied the old books about humans and it popped up in some of the anime and manga that had made its way to her. But even knowing about it beforehand and not feeling offended by it in general would it still be inappropriate for her to participate? Maybe. Would people get mad at her? Also, maybe. But it looked like fun and she’d already come all this way to the Spirit Halloween to browse.

None of the costumes were for any of the characters she’d be interested in dressing up as. But she was used to scrounging and reworking pieces to make decent cosplay. She could take the cape from that costume and the pants from that one over there and with another piece or two and a few added bits could dress up as Mew Mew. Yes, she still had the Mew Mew costume she’d made before coming to the Surface but Endogeny had gotten to it and at this point just replacing it would be easier than fixing it. More expensive but easier. Could she justify it though? Especially since she was planning on using it as a Halloween costume?

Maybe she should just drop the whole idea. Yeah, dressing up was always fun and doing so with other people more so and adding in handing out candy to kids and carving jack’o’lanterns sounded like a jolly time. But was it worth people being mad at her for? She had enough people mad at her about the amalgamates already. Adding more reasons would only…

She froze as she turned down another aisle. It was the kid’s costume section and thus not useful to her. More than that though… “Queen Toriel!” Of call places to find the former queen, in the middle of a Spirit Halloween was not where Alphys would’ve expected to do so. The only thing that tracked was that it was the kid’s section. Presumably Frisk was somewhere around as well, probably run off to explore.

Queen Toriel jumped a little before snapped around to face her. “Oh, Alphys. Good to see you. I’m not queen anymore though, there’s no need to refer to me that way.”

Alphys shouldn’t have said anything. She hadn’t been noticed until she’d blurted Toriel’s name and former title like an idiot. Turning and leaving would’ve been a better move. Too late now though, they were talking. “W- why are you here, your… Toriel? I wouldn’t have expected you to uh… to go to a place like this.” Even if she wasn’t queen anymore, she was still considered an Important Monster. She was on the ballot for becoming the human-monster ambassador and was very likely to get the position.

“I’m looking for a costume for Frisk. They’re…” She looked up and around, “around here somewhere. But before I head off to find them, Alphys, do you think it’s appropriate for monsters to celebrate Halloween?”

“I… I don’t know. I was just wondering that myself, actually. It doesn’t seem like it, does it? But… but it also… it also looks fun, right?”

“Hmm. I suppose that’s what matters most. It looks like fun and doesn’t have to hurt anyone. The humans of today were celebrating it long before finding out monsters were real. They thought it was all just fun and games.”

“So… so it’s okay for us to participate in the uh, fun and games too, right?”

“Perhaps it’s more complicated than that but I think so. Frisk apparently has never been trick-or-treating. I agreed to take them and came here to get them a costume. I wasn’t going to dress up myself but well… it does seem like fun, huh?”

“Oh, um, I think I’m gonna dress up too and… hand out candy and put up some decorations. So… feel free to stop by. And maybe um, we could all get together and do like a… jack’o’lantern carving party the day before or… or something.”

Toriel’s face lit up. “That sounds like a lovely idea. Call me later today or tomorrow sometime and we can organize it with whoever wants to come.”

“Oh, okay. I’m gonna go… I’m gonna go back to looking for stuff now then. Talk to you later.”

“And I’m gonna go find Frisk.”

Alphys turned and retreated. … Or no, not retreated. She walked away after a successful social interaction. She’d proposed a fun idea she’d had and it had been accepted with delight. They were going to chat later and figure out a plan for a have a fun Halloween event with however many people wanted to come. It was still kind of scary but Toriel was on her side so it should be fine.
