Summer Camp

Fighting ghosts had caused his grades to drop, to the point where some were barely passing. That's why Mr. Lancer recommended him to get a tutor or attend a remedial course, something Danny considered quite absurd, how was he going to be able to get away from Amity without it getting destroyed?

Jazz didn't seem to find it absurd at all, and despite his complaints, the halfa ended up at "summer camp" to boost his knowledge or something (Sam and Tucker seemed pretty sure they could handle the ghosts on their own while he was gone), at least, they had an activity about stargazing, for which Danny was grateful.

In the camp he found someone just as bitter as he was, but strangely excited. "Jason Todd" was grumpy about attending and having to be away from his family, but he was excited to learn new things. Danny found it endearing.

They both ended up becoming friends, and reminding each other of the things they were missing. At the end of the camp, it seemed that life had returned to the eyes of the tired halfa. It was during his last night at the camp, when Danny was showing the boy the stars, that Jason kissed him.

Unfortunately they didn't have much time left so they decided to keep in touch and send each other letters. Each headed to their respective city with a smile on their faces. The happiness Danny had earned was gone as soon as Jason's letters stopped coming.

He checked the Gotham newspapers with curiosity and was furious as soon as he saw the news of Jason (sweet, nerdy, and rude Jason) being killed in a fucking explosion. He flew at full speed until he found his grave, and helplessly began to cry. Whether he was angry or sad, he didn't know.

Ectoplasmic tears fell on the grave and unknown to the halfa, they were absorbed by the body. When Danny noticed that the tomb was beginning to glow the same toxic green he knew he couldn't help but feel hopeful. But it wasn't enough.

He didn't know if it would work, but on instinct he drew ectoplasm directly from his core and propelled it into Jason's tomb, hoping it would help. Danny wondered if he was breaking a rule in the Realms but he didn't care.

When he heard his friend's weak heartbeat (Boyfriend? Lover? He doesn't know, they never put a label on each other) he began to dig up the dirt around the grave, but before he could finish, time stopped and Clockwork looked at him with a frown. His mentor looked annoyed, but strangely comprehensive as he directed him to the Clock Tower.

Lujanne and Callum were too damn chummy. I cannot be convinced he didn’t spend a while bunch of time at the Moon Nexus in the two years Rayla was missing. Obviously looking for Rayla or even word on her, but also continuing to look for pointers on how he might connect to the arcanum of the Moon. Totally for himself and learning more about magic and not at all as a way of feeling closer to Rayla and maybe somehow finding out if she was at the very least alive.

And in that time, Lujanne obviously developed a soft spot for him (hence the side eye “Layla” comment). Yeah, Rayla’s a fellow Moonshadow and Lujanne understands why Rayla did what she did, but she also saw Callum after and it’s hard not to feel for him considering what she saw him go through.

as much as i love WWII being the backdrop for alfred and arthur reconnecting fully again, i have to think about their complexities during WWI first…

there’s so much latent bad blood there, and alfred has been deep in isolationism for so long. it’s awkward and silent and uncomfortable, when he meets arthur in the trenches during the battles where he isn’t with françois. arthur and the many corps of his dominions and colonies with him… it’s hard for alfred to even pay him a stricken glance when he’s commanding around jack and zee and matthew—

a little embarrassing, too, maybe? only fifty years have passed since he tore himself apart with civil war, and then arthur prances in onto the battlefield with the three of them— way to make alfred feel like a failure, huh? only one to gain full independence, and he still can’t keep his head on straight all the time?

war and the grit of it start getting easier again. the muscle memory comes back. the trenches start to feel like home.

it is 1918 and alfred’s been gaining steady footing on the western front, slowly, and the second battle of the somme has been a resounding success, not without many american casualties. alfred’s hardly looked at him the entire time, his lips a line and his brow set, but…

when everyone is regrouping and resupplying after the fighting, he hands over a dinged canteen half-full of rainwater to arthur, his hand nearly trembling from how much he’s missed him, and decides he must talk.

Jason and Reyna are so "Best friends to strangers" coded it's tragic.

that one scene in boo where Jason and Piper arrive at the camp half blood battle, and Reyna just doesn't spare a glance at Jason, and he was shocked to realize that Reyna was addressing Piper like they'd known eachother forever, but not Jason.

Like. Omg. I wish Rick expanded more on how Jason was feeling at that particular moment. Because it definitely hurts not getting acknowledged by your old friend whom you thought you were on good terms with.

IDK about y'all but that just HURT like hell :( Reyna was initially upset that Piper and him were dating but she even ended up making peace with Piper, but not Jason.

gosh the tragedy of Jeyna's friendship just gives me all the feels.
