‘gratitude and everything else’.
Like what?
I wonder what his issue with Critical Role is? I don’t read or watch many interviews the cast does, but I do have some memory of them mentioning Felicia. And they gave her a role in TLOVM.
The reply is to a comment about the Wired interview (which I haven’t watched). I guess they were asked how CR was started, and they talked about it being a home game. I don’t know if they go beyond that, but that is how it started.
This has just been bothering me for hours since I saw it. She’s mentioned CR a few times while streaming, and it doesn’t seem like she has an issue with them.
#critical role#I like Felicia and watch her streams regularly#and she def gets credit for giving them the platform to have a show#and there is no CR without her#but CR is a success because of the cast and how hard they’ve worked the last 8 years#I don’t think any other d&d campaign would have out lasted geek and sundry

I think the two most obvious foils for Ludinus Da'leth across all of Critical Role are Essek and Keyleth, which is both fascinating given how different those two characters are from each other (Essek being a foil in terms of isolation, single-mindedness, harm in the name of ambition, knowledge, and other such wizard themes; Keyleth being a foil in terms of people who have lost something at a young age to the gods and bear resentment for it, political leadership, belief that the world belongs to mortalkind, and longevity) but also it's extremely funny that they both are the partners of Liam's character.
#i could write like a longer piece about it but that kind of sums it up#like. hm. how do i put it.#the thing about essek is like. he like ludinus made some IMMENSELY selfish and harmful choices#but the timeline was SHORT all things considered. ludinus didn't REALLY get going until hundreds of years post-calamity#and he expresses NO regret whereas the vibe with essek in 2x97 is that he's kind of hated himself ever since#and you know. maybe if someone had intervened with ludinus 400 years earlier he'd have done the same. but who would. does he have friends.#the thing about essek haters who aren't just angry shippers is that they all ascribe to ontological evil and yet don't ascribe it to ludinu#meanwhile keyleth is just like...the scope of her pain is somehow both smaller and larger#and yet she's able to see herself as part of a whole and not the center of the world#the fact that power and long life was much more naturally given or earned by her rather than seized is also i think part of it#but keyleth's speech this past episode in particular...it's a direct rebuttal of ludinus's dumb speech in 51#this can be your world without having to kill anyone if you're willing to work and grow and compromise and grieve#cr spoilers#critical role#ludinus da'leth#essek thelyss#keyleth

Mentioning Tusk Love and the potential of other independent stories set in Exandria reminded me of an old discord conversation about how they could Fix the courting of the crick for publishing (seeing as it's canonically a Bad Book due to being super dry and also racist towards drow) without breaking canon:
Rename it 'The Courting of the Kryn - a Reimagining of the Classic Story, by Jester Lavorre'
Present it as an in-universe fanfic-ish rewrite. There's a foreword where 'Jester' elaborates on the inaccuracies of the original, the impact the story had on her, and the importance of Dynasty-Empire relations. There's an acknowledgement section where she thanks Caleb and Beau as 'consultants on Empire culture', as well as an unnamed/under fake name/clearly Essek as an 'expert on the Luxon, dunamancy and Dynasty culture'. All his information on spy networks is eerily accurate and has his former co-workers scrambling. (He makes her keep all the dry historical accounts, but now it's accurate (with added dick-related puns)). She mentions that she reached out to the Bright Queen who reluctantly (after 5 messages in a row) gave some pointers. In her frantic research she possibly made some breakthroughs on the nature on the Luxon that has Essek reeling (there's a 'further reading' section where she lists the academic paper he wrote building on her discoveries and an entire list of the sources her consultants used).
For extra fun and meta-ness, include footnotes where she comments on things she changed/removed from the original and why, how various scenes may have been inspired by a real life couple or events, etc. Some of the footnotes are written by her consultants. Caleb and Essek get into arguments on dunamancy theory which is actually thinly veiled flirting. There's anatomically accurate drow sex (it's unclear whether the consultant was Essek or Caleb or possibly a certain brother, who was also consulted on Dynasty military practices).
#I don't know what the actual story would be though#it would be funny if the main couple was clearly inspired by shadowgast#but also i think the story itself should be able to stand on its own without the framing narrative similar to tusk love#part of this was copied from my old discord messages bc man i still really like this idea#*quietly slides this under critical role's studio door with my contact info attached*#critical role#nella talks cr#if you want to make it extra EXTRA meta the story could still clearly be by jester but under a pen-name with no notes of her own#and the footnotes/authors notes are by a future researcher who's studying the work#and has connected it to the famous artist jester lavorre#and is now puzzling together her and the nein's entire lives in the footnotes

If I see one more take about Orym being "secretive" in taking the sword, I swear I might start screaming. The dude walked up to Chet in front of everyone, asked for access to the Bag of Holding, took the sword out (in front of everyone) and left with it. Then he came back with the sword strapped to his back... IN FRONT OF EVERYONE. There was ample time for someone to speak up if they wanted to and Orym, quite frankly, didn't have reason to expect it would be an issue. Laudna may have used the lack of discussion as part of her cycle of justifications for her actions, but that doesn't mean it was 1) the main issue she was actually dealing with or 2) an unsolvable problem that required a rash response even if that had been Laudna's primary issue.
#several of the players including marisha point out they notice orym taking the blade#laudna comments on orym leaving with the sword; he wasn't making a big deal out of it but he wasn't trying to be sneaky#having a private moment with the sword wielded by the person who blew up his life doesn't negate this COME ON#let the man take some time for himself without being weird about it i BEG#(I am entirely calling out the fandom on this; Marisha is a treasure and the way Laudna frustrates me is a testament to her rp skills)#orym#critical role#cr3#cr spoilers#c3e95#PS: I don’t care if you disagree and I can and will block anyone who irritates me#because some of you are fucking weirdos when it comes to orym and you can go bother someone else

I love you I will always love you. But the way you're hurting yourself is scary scary. I don't know what to do with it. You're lying to me, you're hiding important, dangerous things from me. Because you don't want to stop. You don't want me to leave you, and I never will, but you're going to leave me. You believe it's the only way for you to be useful. I can't make you change your mind. I'm going to lose you. I love you.

I think that Orym actually does doubt Imogen, but this isn't a thing that is unique to Imogen. Orym doubts all of them to an extent, because paranoia is something he struggles with (and this is continuously reinforced by the story).
It's not a 'good' thing that he should never get over, nor is it an immoral character flaw that proves he actually hates Imogen. However it's also not something I think he can get over as long as the threat of having to possibly fight his friends exists.
"I have all the faith in the world in you guys, all of you. And I have also spent time thinking how to neutralize each of you."
#cr discourse#critical role#cr3#orym#text post#people talk about orym being hypervigilant and then deny his behaviour created out of that hypervigilance#but also see people being weird about orym due to this. you can dislike him all you want but some people are doing too much#“he hates imogen! she has given him no reason to doubt her! she is good” guys its literally just paranoia#he doesn't need a reason to doubt her nor any of them. he just does due to their uncertainty about everything#this group is impulsive. shown by their 'we are an improv group' response to the question 'whats your plan to stop the end of the world'#this is all in line with oryms usual level of slightly paranoid behaviour which is exasperated and justified by the story#he followed fearne away from camp when she wanted to do something on her own but then she was jumped and nearly killed#that paranoia was proven correct#again the next night when he slept with a sword on his back after fearnes dad threatened to come back and attack her friends#and he was attacked in his sleep (by laudna but at the time he didnt know that)#then imogen told the whole group that she and laudna considered giving into the darkness together#something that both ladies then expressed they wanted orym to take them out if they went too far#this is just a result of all of this#so i think this is a non-issue. if you like it great. if you dont then whatever#just this time it rubbed people the wrong way because of irl hang ups of people valuing their own personal privacy#the same way any kind of mind stuff 'modify memory' or psychic reading of minds without permission rubs me personally the wrong way

Not having the gods be responsible for the Aeor bubbles (Aeubbles) actually felt like a very nice choice to me; I was kind of dreading them turning out to be Erathis’ work or something. Because if the gods did pick and choose who to save, plucking their special followers out above all others, I don’t know if it would feel like a kindness to me! Why does this six year old in a city of horrors get to live while his neighbor dies? For the circumstance of faith? It would be cruel in a way that they haven’t been cruel—at least natural disasters don’t pick favorites. Mount Vesuvius didn’t pretend to be judging the content of anyone’s hearts.
It also gives one last bit of autonomy (and one last final brutal parallel with the gods they hate) to Aeor’s mages. They made something so beautiful and terrible, an awe that brought the god of magic to tears, and even as the gods pulled it down in their ears they had one last paranoid failsafe! One last screw you measure preserving a terrible truth. But just as Asmodeus accuses, Aeor clearly drew distinctions between the people who matter and the people who don’t. That blue bubble we’ve seen in the amphitheater—it’s not any of the panicked masses who were saved in perfect glacial magic, it was the archmage.
At the end of the day, it was Aeor that built a hierarchy to save some people and leave others. They might not have sunk the Titanic but they made sure only the first-class passengers would have access to their last, most desperate life boat. I’m glad the narrative allowed them to have that triumph. In trying to be a godkiller how close must you mold yourself to the shape of a killing kind of god?
#critical role#exu downfall#aeor#cr spoilers#critical role spoilers#similarly I have so many thoughts about the raven Queen’s choice to save hallis#one child among so many#a child who will wake up from a long nap somewhere in exandria#without his mother out of the city he’s lived in his whole life#he had family in the opus ward but that’s gone now too#he’s just one little boy plucked out of the wreckage and left#and she normally wouldn’t but in this case I think she thought it was Owed#and she was still human and grieving her own death and she wanted to be selfishly kind#but there is selfishness in there amid all the threads of fate the duty the grief the rules#a lot going on in that tiny tiny choice

I know that after Downfall the perspective of 'the gods are a FAMILY' has permeated fandom on both sides of the kill-all-gods argument, but frankly that isn't all they are and acting as if it's suddenly their only motivation flattens both them as characters and the narrative they (and bells hells) are in.
The Wildmother and The Raven Queen didn't 'let' Lolth get away with nabbing Opal and killing Cyrus because she’s their sister. Come on man, we've already seen that the primes are plenty capable of opposing and fighting their siblings on the side of mortals (is the calamity a joke to you??). I'm not saying the primes aren’t capable of picking the lives of their betrayer siblings over mortals (downfall showed as much) but that's not what the situation with Opal and Lolth was about in the slightest.
They let Lolth 'get away with it' not because she’s family, but because this is the very rare instance of them not only having the same goal, but of them actively fighting for their lives. As far as we know that has only happened once before on Exandria, and that time they also entered a truce to defend themselves. The vast majority of the time, the primes picking their siblings over mortals won’t happen because mortals can’t actually threaten the gods (normally), making the 'they're family argument' a moot point. The primes won’t necessarily agree with Lolth's methods, but they won’t go throwing away both hers and their own champions in a meaningless struggle when they need all their strength to stop the fucking apocalypse.
#critical role#cr3#cr3 spoilers#nella talks cr#there's also the point that opal willingly made a deal with lolth#is that an end all be all argument to let lolth have her? no. it was a deal made under duress and manipulation#similarly fjord made a deal with uk'otoa under duress to not drown and he got to wiggle out of it (with the support of melora i might add)#but in this one instance? not only was opal too far gone to tear back without killing her#but doing so would also deprive exandria of a divine champion fighting to stop predathos#I've been meaning to make a post talking about the merrits of the other side of this argument#(aka why i understand some characters dislike the gods and why matt noted after downfall that it partially proved Ludinus' point)#but i keep seeing such bonkers fucking takes that i haven’t gotten around to it#maybe next week after I've watched the latest episode (and the latest bells hells god discussion lol)#anyway. it's five in the morning and I'm quite sleep deprived. please forgive any odd wordings
