PLEASE for the love of the universe read anti-colonial science fiction and fantasy written from marginalized perspectives. Y’all (you know who you are) are killing me. To see people praise books about empire written exclusively by white women and then turn around and say you don’t know who Octavia Butler is or that you haven’t read any NK Jemisin just kills me! I’m not saying you HAVE to enjoy specific books but there is such an obvious pattern here
Some of y’all love marginalized stories but you don’t give a fuck about marginalized creators and characters, and it shows. Like damn
#science fiction#fantasy#xenogenesis#earthseed#the broken earth#frankly I think many of the critiques of my own work are valid#but when I see the same criticisms applied to authors who fundamentally changed the genre#I’m like#hold up

Labels or not, Caleb Widogast--who meticulously counts out each coin when paying for something; who refused to get a new coat because he had an assigned pocket for every item he owned or could use; whose go-to unwinding routine at the end of the day has always been to count, touch, and line up each individual spell component; who folds up and lines up his coat and his books the same way every night--clearly takes comfort in order and routine. Of *course* his ultimate safe space has an immutable order that hasn't changed in the seven or so years since his family filled its halls regularly.
A space for everything and everything in its place.

when people think delilah just completely takes over and laudna has no control. when people think jester is just an uwu child who has been manipulated by every man she’s met. when people think vex is an empty husk of daddy issues without her brother by her side. when people think fjord is an arrogant asshole who doesn’t pay attention to the party around him. when people think scanlan saying that vox machina doesn’t care about him is an accurate assessment.
#i’m tired and i was bitching w a friend about this earlier but good grief.#cr fandom HATES when a character knowingly denies or portrays themself in a way that is false#but that fulfils the expected role the party/the fandom has dictated for them#whether the character is intentionally lying (vex and fjord esque) or has bad faithed themselves into believing what they’re saying#(laudna and scanlan) cr very frequently plays with like . the character is saying this and it’s not trueeeee#you’d think the fandom that’s oh so willing to History Is Written By The Victors their way into validating wiping out all of the gods#because (checks notes) they do not fulfil the whims of every person who asks#might have a little more grace when it comes to doubting the characters words as always truthful or always well informed#critical role

i think we all moved on from orym being dorian's first love too quickly and how bc dorian has been so sheltered his entire life he didn't even know what lust or love felt like until he met orym and how him not knowing those feelings was one of the reasons dorian was so hesitant to express them. i think a lot of people, me included, were really wondering why he was so hesitant to express his feelings towards orym and thinking that it was simply about it not being the right time or wanting to give orym space to mourn his husband and while i'm sure that all played a factor in it, i don't think anyone really thought that part of why it took so long was bc dorian was falling in love for the first time and was overwhelmed and unfamiliar with what he was feeling
#*#critical role#dorym#robbie is just so masterful man that scene was just... i fucking loved it#liam ofc did a great job but i feel like robbie played dorian's feelings really close to his chest#even to the point where people wondered if robbie was just not comfortable rping romance (which would've been valid)#and i thought it was just masterful to keep people guessing (at least us i'm sure he and liam talked about being ok w it)#and there being a completely in character reason for it that i don't think anyone thought of

The Bright Queen is such an interesting contrast to Ludinus, because by his worldview, she should be on his side.
She was also alive during the Calamity. She also lived with the immediate post-war devastation of the fighting (we don’t know where Ludinus lived for sure, but she’s arguably even more familiar with it. It’s called the Wastes of Xhorhas for a reason). She doesn’t worship any of the gods; indeed, Lolth personally hates her! She has plenty of reasons to hate the gods, or at least not care if they die.
But critically, she knows that Ludinus is a huge dickhead, and knows he is her enemy.
#cr spoilers#Ludinus#ludinus da'leth#leylas kryn#critical role spoilers#imo from what we know she has more “valid” reasons to want the gods dead. And yet!#This is phrased awkwardly i think but if i dont post it now i’ll forget#Mine#c3#c3e104

Why do you (as in the royal you) as a member of a fandom,, seem to believe that things need to be,,, canon??? in fanfiction??? why would? that ever be? if you wanted to read pure canon, you could,,,, idk,,, read canon? pick up the source material,,, and if you wanted to read pure canon fanfiction just search the ‘canon compliant’ tag. that’s how ao3 works. so silly.
#was it canon when sherlock holmes and his little gay boy kissed on the hogwarts express? prolly not i wouldnt know#i’m not in that fandom#discourse#<- prolly#dcu#batman#would tag the character this is abt but many would hate me if i did that im afraid#batfam#fandom#fanfic#batfamily#batfanon#dc comics#fanfiction#tim drake#timkon#damian wayne#batkids#superfam#they’re involved#like ‘there should be more canon compliant works’ valid criticism there r not a lot#but ‘i hate that anyone writes fanfiction that’s ooc or inaccurate to canon’ is giving old man screaming at clouds energy rn

please reblog to increase sample size!
EDIT: i definitely should have included some sort of “multiple of these” option, so if that applies, you can click “yes and [something else]”!
EDIT 2: feel free to also include your location!
#disclaimer: i have a feeling this will have some intense sample bias! but i’m still curious#and i’m almost certain there’s been a poll like this before but again: Curious#i think online relationships are just as valid as offline relationships btw but i still think there’s a critical difference#do you live near any jews? do you interact with jewish communities in your local area? etc#yell.txt#polls#and im almost certain there’s been a poll like this before but again: Curious!

Losing it over the fact that Caduceus was ready to Bane and Zone of Truth Braius if he didn't seem like he was going to be forthright. He seems from an external perspective like he's being kinder than, say, Fjord and Beau, but he is just as prepared to be mean in pursuit of growth. Do not ever forget that Caduceus, for all he makes an effort to come across as kind and helpful, is every bit a member of the Mighty Nein. And the Mighty Nein are so ruthless and such bastards and I love them for it.
#cr cooldown#critical role#cr spoilers#it's so funny that all of them showed up to play the nein this way they are so valid and correct for it#they're just like that! they don't have time for anything else there's a world to save!#you don't have to solve all your problems to make peace with your mortality but you do have to be honest with yourself about it#anyway the nein would watch melora rip a dude's throat out with her teeth and go 'lmao. based.'

like you guys know warwick is supposed to be a metaphor, right?
and by 'you guys' I am talking to the writers of Arcane S2 (2024), who appear to have forgotten this.
like warwick, in a strictly plot sense, is something that is done to vander. but warwick, in a narrative sense, is supposed to be a metaphor. you understand that, right?
it's a metaphor for the monster within the man?
the hound of the underground?
the way suffering breeds cruelty breeds monsters - the uncaged wrath of zaun?
the sins of his past come back to haunt him?
the violence he tried to leave behind, but never could?
"i knew you still had it in you."?
Sometimes, as he fed in dark alleys on stray gangers, the flash of knives would remind him of an old blade covered in blood. Blood passing from the blade to his hands. From his hands, to everything he touched. Sometimes, he remembered the girl again. And still there was blood. It had always been there, he realized, his entire life, and nothing he did could wash it off. He'd left so many scars that even if he didn't remember his past, the city would. When he peered into the eyes of Zaun's criminals - the gang bosses, murderers, and thieves - he saw himself.
that's the warwick we should have gotten in S2. vander the grey, not vander the unproblematically whitewashed. vander the revolutionary who brought his gauntlets to that bridge to fight for a future; the base violence necessary for change. vander with blood on his hands, just as much as the partner he scapegoated for it; tried to bury in the pilt along with his own guilt; not just vander who felt aw shucks real sorry about the attempted murder that one time. vander the complex. vander who sold out zaun's resistance to ease his own shame. vander the reckoning with his own complicity; his own violence; his own original sin. vander whose murkiness helps vi unpack her black and white worldview, and let go of the rose-tinted past to which she clings; understand jinx, even understand silco; understand that it's not just about Individual Bad People doing Individual Bad Things to Individual Good People, and Individual Good People who have to defeat the Individual Bad People, but that this is something far bigger and far older than any of them, a whole rotten system of misery and oppression that turns people into monsters. that the thing that turned vander into a monster, METAPHORICALLY, happened long before he met singed.
vander the monster, as well as vander the man.
instead, we got whatever this shit is:
#arcane#arcane critical#vander#warwick#LET VANDER BE FUCKED UP AGAIN#BRING BACK MY MORALLY COMPROMISED BEAR WITH AN UNDERCURRENT OF VIOLENCE STILL RUNNING BENEATH THE SURFACE#HAUNTED BY THE SINS OF HIS OWN PAST#THE BLOOD ON HIS OWN HANDS#how did the writers forget what made vander such a good character in S1#(spoiler: it's because they need to jettison any lingering notion that active resistance is valid)#(and double down on the idea that u just gotta FORGIVE! u just gotta walk away. u just gotta get out of that oppression MINDSET u guys!)

Reading Orym discourse on twitter is kinda funny, "it's unfair that he has a trump card and can shut down any conversation with it", like, I don't know but, if I don't have a counter argument in a discussion, maybe this means the other person has a valid point?
#critical role#cr discourse#orym of the air ashari#does orym have a valid point? nah the dm gave him a magic quest item that allows him to win every argument

Shen Yuan getting transported into pidw isn't "the system punishing him for being a lazy internet hater," but instead representative of "step 1 of the creative process: getting so mad at something you decide to go write your own fucking book" in this essay I will
#svsss#scum villian self saving system#shen qingqiu#shen yuan#the fact that people think scum villain#-a series that examines and criticizes common tropes in fiction-#is somehow against criticism or being a little hater is wild to me#especially since shen qingqiu never gets punished for being a hater#heck- he's still a little hater by the end of the series#he mostly gets punished for treating life like a play and like he and the people around him are characters#(or in other words- he suffers for denying his own wants and emotions and his own sense of empathy)#I think some of y'all underestimate how much writing/art is inspired by creaters being little haters#like example off the top of my head-#the author of Iron Widow has been pretty vocal about the book being inspired by their hatred of Darling in the Franxx#I think my interpretation of Shen Yuan's transmigration is also supported by the fact that this series is an examines writing processes#side note- though i understand why people say Shen Yuan is lazy and think its a valid take it still doesnt sit right with me#i am probably biased because my own experiences with chronic pain and depression and isolation#but ya- i dont think Shen Yuan is lazy so much as he is deeply lonely and feels purposeless after denying parts of himself for 20ish years#like yall remember the online fandom boom from covid right?#being stuck completely alone in bed while feeling like shit for 20 days straight does shit to your brain#the fact that no one came to check on him + he wasn't exactly upset about leaving anyone behind supports the isolation interpretation too#+in the skinner demon arc he describes his life of being a faker/inability to stop being a faker now that he's Shen Qingqiu#as “so bland he's tempted to throw salt on himself” and “all he could do is lay around and wait for death” (<-paraphrasing)#bro wants to be doing stuff but is stuck in paralysis from repeatedly following scrips made by other people#another point on “Shen Yuan isn’t lazy” is just the sheer amount of studying that man does#also he did graduate college- how lazy can he really be#he doesnt know what hes doing but he at least tries to actively train his students#and he actually works on improving his own cultivation + spends quite a bit of time preping the mushroom body thing#+he's experiencing bouts of debilitating chronic pain throughout all this#but ya tldr: Shen Yuan's transmigration is an encouragement to write and not a punishment and also i dont think its fair to call him lazy
