All The Things I Did (7): I Thought About Thinking It Through
a/n: ok so the first blurb of the sleep talking interlude has been somewhat negated so I apologize but promise it is worth it. heavy shit this chapter as we get the full story on sidney landry. but john might say the L word...
warnings: mentions of domestic violence, mentions of character just wanting it all to stop
When John walked into the pub that night, the sounds of an angel laughing reached his ears but the cause was making his fists curl. Cass was seated at a table in the back corner with a man, who he presumed was Mr. Foster, sitting across from her. Her chin was in her hand the way it was whenever he told her a funny story. Her smile was as soft as candlelight as she nodded along to whatever he was telling her. Swears he felt his blood boil when her hand brushed against his across the table.
“Hey, baby, I didn’t think I was going to see you here tonight.” His annoyance was washed away as she turned to greet him with a smile. She said his name and brought him in for a kiss, John using her proximity to press a few more to her lips.
“John, this is Captain Will Foster. We went to spook school in Maryland together.” John kept one arm around the back of her chair as he shook the man’s hand.
“Major Egan, it’s an honor, sir.”
“Hear that, Cass, some people think it’s an honor to meet me.” She rolled her eyes as she took a sip of her soda. “You’re the one who’s going to keep an eye on my girl in Berlin?”
“I’ll do my best, sir, but this is Cass’ operation. I’m just here to do what she tells me.” Cass blushed and ducked her head. “Lieutenant Cooper graduated top of our class. Highest marks the entire year.”
“It’s not that impressive,” she began. “Not like I can fly a plane.”
“None of that,” John stated as he gripped her chin between his fingers. “You are the smartest, most gorgeous, most impressive woman that has ever walked this earth.” She smiled in spite of the ridiculousness and let him pull her in for another kiss.
“Careful, John, or all this is going to go to my head. Then I’ll be truly insufferable.”
“I have never once complained about your company.” As it always did, the rest of the world sealed itself off from the space between them. As soon as they had their eyes on each other there was nothing else that mattered. “Can I get you a refill?”
“Yes, please.” John kissed her forehead and was off in the direction of the bar.
“You and the Major, huh?”
“He is…a welcome surprise. I saw him get off a plane one day and couldn’t shake the look in his eyes.”
“Curiosity killed the cat but satisfaction brought it back,” Will replied with a swig of his beer. “You always were good at learning everything about your target without giving up even a hint of yourself.”
“John’s not my target. He’s my-” She stopped. What was he? Was there a word to describe their relationship status? Partner seemed too severe and official. Boyfriend seemed too trivial. “Mine. He’s just mine. And I’m his.”
“Simple. That works.” Oh, if he only knew. The feelings they had for each other, ability to express them agnostic, were simple. They were pure. They were real. They were warm and comforting and made her nerves tingle. But the world around them was so complicated. The lives they led as individuals were complicated, how were they supposed to twine them together? “And to think you were a runaway bride when I first met you.”
“Runaway bride?” John chose the perfect time to return. Catching the one part of that comment that Cass felt in her chest. “You?”
“It’s an exaggeration of the circumstances.” Cass transitioned to damage control. The topic of why she had left South Carolina in the first place hadn’t come up between her and John. And she had wanted to keep it that way. There was no use pouring salt in her old wounds.
“Oh, come on, Cass. Engaged to marry the big time banker’s son and fleeing the engagement party to enlist in the OSS? It’s an incredible story.” For the second time that day, John found himself furious with the tone someone was using to speak to her. She had fully retreated into herself, focused on the condensation rolling down the side of the bottle, her hands shaking in her lap at the reminder of that night.
“Doesn’t seem like she wants to talk about it, Captain.” There was authority in his tone. It was protective. Purposeful. No room to misinterpret his words. “You okay?” It looked like she was having trouble breathing. As if the amount of trauma trapped in her chest was suffocating her.
“No. I just need some air. Alone.” She doesn’t think she could look John in the eye. Not when he now knew the awful truth. Not when she was now nothing but damaged and spoiled goods. John watched her walk away with a clenched jaw.
“Major-”
“I don’t know what the fuck happened in South Carolina, Foster, but if I ever hear you mention it again it will be the last thing you ever do.” John drained the rest of his whiskey and slammed it on the table. He didn’t wait for a response. He meant the words he said. And Will knew it.
----
“There’s more than one of them,” John mocked as he sat across from the RAF officers. “I can see more than one of you, too. I could knock all of you out.” Cass hadn’t come back into the pub and John had just drowned his anger and worry in amber liquid. Buck and Veal helped settle him down as he yelled he could do it in only one punch.
“You want to get Major excited? Baseball. Specifically the Yankees,” Curt offered.
“Really? I would have thought it was the little poppet who left close to tears.” No one tried to stop him when he stood this time.
“Say that again,” he threatened.
“Why don’t we make a bit of sport out of it, Major?”
“I’ve got him, John, let me take care of him,” Curt reasoned. Really, they were all afraid John might kill him. A better man would know when to step aside. Let a more level head prevail. But John wasn’t in any particular mood to take the high ground.
“Not this time. People in this goddamn pub need to stop talking about her.” They all milled outside and John tossed his blazer into the grass. He wondered if Cass would appreciate the gesture or be repulsed by it. If she ever believed violence was the answer or always chose to think her way out of everything. He ducked the weak hand of the Brit as he thought about the way she looked earlier. The way she had hid herself from his gaze and his touch and requested she be alone. He didn’t like the hole in his chest that she left whenever she wasn’t near.
His fist landed square on his target’s face and the sickening crunch of breaking bone echoed throughout the night air. He pictured Harding’s lovesick eyes when his Cass entered the room. Pictured Foster and his words quelling the fire inside of his Cass in an instant. Pictured this pompous asshole watching his Cass walk from the pub with a shake to her shoulders. Cass was a deity that mere men were not meant to get too close to. John didn’t even believe he deserved the way she looked at him. The way she touched him and comforted him and made him feel at home in a faraway land.
“You good, Bucky?” The others were cheering and laughing and slapping him on the shoulder but Buck looked concerned more than anything.
“I gotta protect her, Buck. I can’t let this place take her from me.” He couldn’t even feel the wounds to his knuckles or the blood of another man trickling down his fingers. “I’ll find you guys later.” John ignored their groans and pleas and grabbed his jacket from the ground before heading off in her direction. His north star. He would always follow her home.
----
He knocked softly against her door, Mary not hiding her eye roll at his disheveled uniform and bloodied knuckles when she had begrudgingly let him in, his forehead landing against the wood as he waited for her to answer.
“You found me,” she whispered softly as she cracked the door open an inch.
“Always will,” he replied sincerely. “Can I come in?” She nodded and opened the door wider, John closing it behind him as she sat on the edge of her bed. He looked around and noticed a packed bag on the floor and a stack of envelopes on her desk. The one on top looked like it was addressed to her parents.
“I’m sorry I didn’t come back after…” John shook his head.
“You were upset. He shouldn’t have said what he said.” Cass chuckled drily and looked at the ceiling.
“You have my back, just like that? Without even knowing what it was he was talking about?” He sat down in her chair, elbows landing on the top of his thighs. “What happened to your hand?” She surged forward and held his hand in hers with a delicacy that made him shudder.
“I was having your back.” Not asking any further, she opened a drawer and pulled out a first aid kit. “And to answer your question, yes. It doesn’t matter what he was talking about. If it made you uncomfortable, it needed to stop.” He didn’t wince as she cleaned the blood from his hand, kissing each knuckle for extra measure, and wrapping a bandage to seal in her love.
“I appreciate that, John, but what he said was true.” He winced now.
“About being another man’s bride?” The thought made him sick. The thought that Cass was already someone else’s. That she hadn’t told him and let him fall in love with her and share in those sacred moments together. That maybe that was why she so rigidly didn’t want him to say so.
“I was supposed to be. Before I left for training, I was engaged.” She paused and waited for his reaction. Waited for him to be angry or upset and tell her she wasn’t worth the trouble.
“And I’m sure you left for a reason, Cass.” His desire to understand her almost hurt her chest. It reminded her exactly why she had left. Why Sidney Landry was most certainly not the man she was meant to marry. “You don’t have to tell me. I don’t want to drudge something up if you’ve already gotten over it.”
“No, if…if me and you are going to be me and you, you need to know. You deserve to know.” John leaned forward to hold her hands, kissing the back of them with all the love he could muster. “His name is Sidney Landry. His father is the biggest banker in the state and they’ve been looking to get their claws into my family’s business for decades.” Her hands shook slightly and he squeezed them tight.
“I’m here,” he whispered. “I’m not leaving.”
“By all accounts it was an advantageous match. They were wealthy and powerful and Sidney could have any girl in Charleston that he wanted but for some god awful reason he wanted me. My mother was so delighted. She had found a man who was willing to try to tame me.” A tear rolled down her cheek and John’s thumb wiped it away.
“Cass…”
“I had no choice but to say yes and let him parade me around like some blue ribbon. I was so miserable every second I was with him. He would grab my arms so tight they bruised everytime we went somewhere. He would say the crudest things about me having his children. I spent months just wanting it all to stop.” The tears were coming in full force. Her hands grasping John’s like he was her anchor in the storm. His own eyes were swimming with emotion as he watched her exorcize these demons from within her. “One night he had been drinking so much I couldn’t understand what he was saying. But he was so angry I wouldn’t let him touch me. So angry that he…”
“You don’t have to tell me,” he repeated, “I know all I need to, Cass.” John already knew he was going to kill Sidney Landry. Didn’t know when but he knew it would be slow.
“His hands were around my neck and I thought he was going to kill me. I hit him as hard as I could over and over before he stopped. I ran and I ran and I ran until I couldn’t breathe.”
“You ran all the way to London, huh?” he said in the hopes of getting a smile to crack across her face. It worked.
“I thought I ended up here because I was running away from him but maybe I was really just running to you.”
“That sounds about right,” he murmured as he stroked the top of her cheeks. “What you went through…You are so fucking strong, Cass. You deserve to be happy and to feel loved and protected.”
“I’m so damaged, John. I’m not meant for a life of teacups and doilies and standing there silently. No one is going to want this version of me.” Now that he knew the truth, she expected him to run too. To find a simple girl who could be the wife he deserved and the mother to his children he deserved.
“That’s not true, Cass, because I,” he swallowed and held her face between his hands, steady and strong, “because I love you. I am so fucking in love with you, Cassandra Cooper. I love every last bit of you and I love this version of you and know I’ll love every version that comes after.” She kissed him ferociously, not able to get enough of him even with no distance between them. “Come home with me when this is all over. Do me the honor and make me the happiest man alive.”
“I will, John, I will.” He kissed her with a groan, eager to lock this promise between them. “John, you need to know that I leave for Berlin in the morning. The operation it’sit’s…others have tried and they haven’t come back.”
“I’m not letting you say goodbye,” he reasoned. “Not when you got me thinking about an after.” Oh it was so cruel and dangerous for the universe to do this to him. Give him the one thing he’d been wanting only to have her live her life on the same edge he did.
“If something happens to me, I need you to know I feel the same way you do.” She just needed to get through this. If she could survive Berlin, she could survive this whole thing. She could love John Egan wholeheartedly and unabashedly. She could find the courage to go back home if he was with her. “When I went to see Harding this morning, I went to turn down Berlin.”
“Turn it down?”
“I would have rather been here with you than anywhere else. No matter what those consequences were. But then I saw Buck’s letter and I was so angry.”
“I know. I deserve that.” She shook her head.
“No, you don’t because here I am doing the exact same thing.”
“Hey, you’re not going to need those farewell letters on your desk, okay? You’re going to go to Berlin, kick someone’s ass or steal state secrets to end the war and you’re going to come right back home to me. Just like how I am always going to come right back home to you.”
“Forever and ever?” she asked.
“Forever and ever,” he promised. “You going to let me hold you while we try and get some sleep tonight?”
And that was how Mary found them before the sun rose the following morning. John protectively wrapped around Cass from behind, their fingers interlocked at her middle. And they both studied each other for a few more minutes until Mary said it was really, really time for Cass to go. John not wanting to forget a single thing about this very moment. Cass not wanting to forget a single detail about the face of the man she loved. The face of the man she was fighting to keep safe.
“Don’t get distracted by thoughts of your love for me while you’re flying,” she teased as he pecked her lips a few times.
“I am going to fly so much faster with that admission off my chest.” She giggled and fell back into him easily, her plane whirring to life behind them.
“If you do, I might let you show me how much you love me when I get back.” That twinkle of mischief was there that he loved so dearly.
“Is that so? You better hurry then. I’m a patient man, Spook, but not when it comes to loving on you.”
“Cass! We got to go! Weather’s moving in!” Her heart dropped along with her smile as she turned back to John. The part she was dreading.
“I’ll see you when I get back,” she said, her fingers tracing the contours of his face one last time. His knuckles brushed her cheek and he kissed her one last time.
“I love you. You come back to me in one piece. That’s an order, Lieutenant.”
“I’ll do my best, Major.” She pulled him by the front of his jacket for her own last kiss. To tell him she loved him without saying the words. Those would be for after.
She walked backwards until she couldn’t anymore. Her hand pressing to her lips before she released it into the wind, John catching the sentiment with ease. He had never felt such torment watching a plane take off as he did in that moment. It was carrying everything he held dear off to a faraway place.
“Please come back to me, Cass.”

Headcanons for the Mitchell-Bradshaw kids (+ friends & family) because I can | Top Gun AU ✈️
Summary: What happens when you live with 4 little ducklings? Unforgettable memories!
Pairing: Bradley Bradshaw & Jenny Mitchell
Characters included/mentioned: Dane Bradshaw, Austin Mitchell, Maverick, Slider, Iceman, Carole and etc
Note: Fluffy/ Top Gun Headcanon fic
~~
1) Bradley and Austin used to volunteer at an Animal Shelter, full of puppies and full grown dogs if all breeds. One day, Slider’s kids wanted to adopt another dog but couldn’t since they already had 4 already so in result, they called Iceman to help them out and so in result he adopted the doggie.
But there was a catch, the Yorkie made so much more barking than expected and had so much darling energy, so Iceman had no choice but to call him—Maverick!! Let’s just say the real Maverick wasn’t the happiest person after hearing that and the kids laughed so loudly at his reaction
2) Speaking of dogs, Austin Mitchell may or may not have brought home in an panic a week later. Jenny was sending text messages on her laptop when he rushed in yelling, “Don’t tell Dad!”
She was confused and looked up, “What did you do?”
“I want you to know that I love you VERY much and you’re always welcome in my room for the bigger closest room.”
“Aussy, what happened? Did you break his motorcycle again?”
“No and for the 10th time that was Dane!”
He hoped the door for a puppy to walk in as his sister’s jaw dropped to the floor, hugging the fur ball to tackle her. He laughed at the moment and whistles as two more dogs came in grinning brightly.
“Sooo? What do we think?” He asked with a matching grin as the dogs, carrying the puppy.
“We ain’t NEVER telling Dad!” She repiled with a little giggle falling in love with the dogs.
—
3) As a kid, Dane really in awe of Ice's ability to flip pens like it was nothing and wants to be his student to learn the trick, begging for him to teach him one day after school. His mom brought him a small pack of pens and pencils to practice with for flipping tricks, eventually he gets the hang of it where he showcasing his tricks in class.
He thanked his Uncle Ice later on for showing him the trick, calling him cooler than Maverick jokingly and laughed running off to show his friends his new tricks
4) Speaking of Dane, is maths kid in school. History was never his strong suit but surprisingly, numbers came much more naturally to him. It resulted in the type of career he would have in the future.
His brother and siblings knew this fact very well, being able to be crafty where he can calculate prices of analysis for planes. As well as when needed he can calculate, like the the tax and measurement when it comes to paying for a restaurant bill.
It would surprise his mother as she would ask, “Not bad, sweetie. How did you do that so fast?”
In result he would hold up the pen and napkin he used to do the math then reply, “I counted.”
—
5) When it comes to certain things, Jenny is terrible at keeping secrets and wants to gossip, so she can be a little nosy at times (she gets better at it with age). Ice and her dad like to say, she got from their Aunt Carole, since Sunset was most likely the one to be hush hush about certain subjects.
When she was 5, and Bradley was 7, she knew he had a silly little crush on the babysitter cause she was so nice. So she told her auntie Carole who stayed gushing with her all about it, teasing her son about it
When she was 10, she heard all about uncle Slider becoming Commander after watching the adults talk about it and went running to her daddy to spill the news giggling with excitement. It was supposed to be a secret for a few short days but she couldn’t help herself.
When she was 16, she found out that Dane and Austin had a crush on the same girl or so she thought. She squeals so loudly, knowing that she would have to be quiet about it or else. Bradley even gave her an odd look.
But Jenny had other plans as she sneaked up on her brother and asked, “Sooo who’s the girl?”
“What girl? There is no girl!” Austin exclaimed playing video games on the computer.
“Oh my god it’s the senior!”
“How did y-no! I am not into a senior.”
“But I saw you talking about some girl name ‘Avery’…”
That’s when her brother snorted, “No, Avery Thompson is the senior leader of the drama club. I’m into Avery Rodriguez, he’s on the basketball team.”
Her eyes widen and gasps, “HIM?! Damn, you got good taste!”
—
6) Jenny had a small crush on Bradley when they were kids, jokingly saying ‘You are my boyfriend.’ when she was 7 but let it go a while later. Especially since fictional boys existed on Tv duh! However, Bradley thought girls had cooties and said, ‘Gross!’
As early high school rolled around, Jenny was watching Disney Channel movies and texting her friends as she watched the boys play guitar and drums in the center of the garage. Austin, Dane and Bradley were jamming out in their band laughing and singing covers.
Tracy and Rachel, Jenny’s friends, walked into the garage jamming out to the songs as she greeted her with a hug. They were chatting and gossiping about the latest movies, along with newest episodes of Gossip Girl.
“Can you believe Blair said that to Serena?! That was uncalled for!” Tracy exclaimed as they sat on the bench, sipping water bottles.
“I know right?! But Serena had a point though.” Jenny yelled, chuckling.
“Blair was better.” Rachel added for a debating measure, “But I love Serena too.”
Bradley was tuning his guitar but paused to look at the girls with a loopy smile, stuck in a mini trance.
That’s when Austin threw an empty water bottle at his head and yelled, “Dude! Stop staring that’s my sister.”
Dane laughed at his brother’s face, waving at Tracy, Rachel and Jenny who giggled. Bradley just glared at Austin as he stuck out his tongue muttering a few things.

I am watching Daisy Jones & the Six rn, a fictional band which was really popular in the 70s but had a fallout and no one answered why, until 20 years later when they interview the band members and people involved with them, a documentary of sorts.
And I love that sort of thing.
So, idea: Bruce was a brilliant scientist and one day, he disappeared from the face of the earth (on the day of the gamma bomb test). They make a documentary about Bruce Banner in the 80s/90s.
None of his still living family members wanted to participate.
They pull in some other people.
Elementary school teacher: "He was gifted from a young age. Always on top of his class. Could read before he was four years old. But he wasn't really sociable. He didn't have any friends, no. The other kids quickly saw him as a target and ganged up on him."
"It was usually his mom who picked him up. Brian Banner, his father, was known to... Not be a pleasant person. A very angry and also insecure man.”
Former neighbor, “The neighborhood wasn't really a community. Except for church services, maybe. But yeah, you could hear screams from the Banner house very often. Mr and Mrs Banner went out a lot and the boy stayed with the Nanny. Highly unpleasant person as well. You didn't see her often but you knew that you just didn't want to talk with her.”
Bartender, “Brian Banner was a regular. Nobody liked him because he got really aggressive when drunk. And loud. He would often complain about his son, making claims about him being a monster. It was at these moments I was glad he was at the bar instead of at home.”
Former neighbor: “Rebecca did sport a black eye every now and then, no amount of make-uo was going to conceal that. Plus she wore long-sleeved shirts even in summer. She was a good woman. She didn't deserve what happened to her. But yes, the clues that something like this could happen were there.”
Reporter: “What happened?”
Police Officer #1: “We got a call. An accident with one person dead. We arrived at the scene and we all knew that this was no accident.”
Police Officer #2: “He was still kneeling beside her bleeding body. His hands, his face, his clothes, they were all covered in blood. I gave him a blanket, guided him away to our car. He didn't show any signs of emotions. But tears were running down his face. Suddenly, he said ‘She didn’t slip. "He killed her’.”
Police Officer #3: “I remember him. I couldn't ever forget that case. I was with him at the station while we waited for his aunt. He was sitting there all alone, wrapped in a blanket so I decided to get him a hot chocolate. You could see that he had it tough in life. There were bruises on his arms, some handshapped. I brought the hot chocolate over to him and he was holding out his arm. Was muttering something along the lines of ‘I can't find it’. I never understood it.”
Reporter: “You were his middle school teacher?”
Teacher #1: “Yes, I was.”
Reporter: “What do you remember about him?”
Teacher #1: “He was a real troublemaker. Not because of his grades, but he would cause scenes because he only ever wanted to work alone, which backfired multiple times. And his constant mumbling!”
Reporter: “Mumbling?”
Teacher: “Yes! He would talk to himself so often, even during class! And then he had the audacity to not even pay attention to the lesson!”
Schoolmate #1: “I was in the same class as him.”
“Ohh, yes, he mumbled to himself so often! Not even himself, his imaginary friend. Imaginary friend! We were teenagers and the guy still had an imaginary friend. Probably because no one else would willingly spend time with him.”
“Hulk. He always called him Hulk, yeah. Even wrote that name down in his notebook he always carried around.”
“He had this notebook and he would write in it whenever he could. Even during class.”
“I don't know what he wrote in it anymore. Some sort of equations.”
Carla, schoolmate: “He stepped in when Ken, the school bully, harrassed me. He didn't have to do that, but he did anyway.”
“Well, they… they beat him up. He had to go to the hospital. Broken ribs. But once he came back, he asked me if I was okay!”
“What I said? Erm, stuff I regret saying. I don't want to talk about it. We were teenagers and I had a lot to deal with already. I had my own insecurities and your reputation was really important back in school. It wasn't fair, yes, but I was just a girl.”
“He was a good person. Sure, he was weird, but he did not deserve to be bullied. Nobody does.”
Reporter: “How do you know Bruce Banner?”
Former college student #1: “We were roommates during college.”
Reporter: “What was he like?”
Former college student #1: “Smart. Passionate. Awkward. He was great at what he did, a real favorite amongst teachers. He studied with Stoddard, another gamma scientist. Stoddard was always jealous of Banner, because he worked much harder but Banner was the one who got all the praise.”
“It wasn't that Banner was lazy, he was just a genius who just instantly understood everything it seemed. When he had a problem, he would immediately try to solve it.”
Reporter: “How do you know Bruce Banner?”
“We were friends during college.”
“We had a study group in college and we would spend the weekends together too sometimes.”
“We were all nerds, which is why it was so easy to talk together. The rest? They didn't understand us. But we understood each other.”
Former college student #3: “We had fun sharing our interests, sharing knowledge, getting into rambles, going into hypothetical scenarios.”
Former college student #2: *rubbing the back of his neck* “What we would do in our free time together? Ehh.”
Former college student #3: “Drugs.”
Former college student #2: “It was the 70s and burnt out college students. I’m sure that’s all that you need.”
Former college student #1: “Once, I hadn't seen him for three days. I didn't think much of it until he came back. He looked really shaken up and spaced-out. Told me he was at a cafe three towns over. Apparently he had no idea how he got there and just walked back.”
“If he went to parties? Usually not. Except when he did. See, most of the time he was really timid. He was sure of himself, but still introverted. But when he did go out? The guy went all the way. Would even ask me if I wanted to come with him, which I declined. He was like a completely different person.”
Former college student #2: “We had a great time together. Parties were so fun! He really knew how to charm the ladies. It was like Clark Kent and Superman, one second an unassuming guy, the next, he knew how to read the room and what to say to people to get what he wants as if he could read their minds.”
Former college student #3: “Sometimes we would drive to a casino, he would make some money and afterwards we would get something to eat.”
Former college student #2: “And sometimes… Sometimes it seemed more like possession than a superpower. I remember one time we were in the car, mentally not 100% present and he asked really panicked ‘Where am I? How did I get here?’. And that whole confident demeanor? It was gone.”
Former college student #1: “Yes, this was not the only occurrence. Sometimes he would become… childish? He would talk in a few word sentences. I blamed it on sleep deprivation but when I asked him about it, he told me he didn't remember.”
Journalist: “What happened after Dr. Banner’s college time is mostly speculation. What we do know is that he tried to get funding for his research but was declined. As to what his idea consisted of, we have no idea. Eventually he would join the government and this was the last officially known thing about him. His contact with friends and family members became less and less. Of course, he had co-workers that would probably know more, but even the ones working with him are mostly classified and the ones we do know of were unable to be contacted. Eventually a missing person report was filed - and immediately closed. Did he die? Is he held captive? Did he see something he was not supposed to see? As of now, we don't have the answers. But there is hope that we one day will.”

Reddit Style Fic: I got revenge on my long term bully and I feel pretty great about it.
I, 16M, have been bullied since I was a toddler by the son of my mom’s best friend (same age and we’ll call him Pomeranian cause he looks like it). I have oddly vivid memories of him giving me a horrible nickname and then utterly mocking me due to a Quirkless diagnosis. (I was later found to be a False Negative). He was cruel to me and would use his Quirk on me. He would also bully others, something I’d try to stop. He eventually did when he figured out the teachers didn’t like him hurting them though I was fair game.
I was really oblivious to the fact he was a bully because our parents would hang out often and make us play nice. I honestly took these as signs he was my friend because his mom was watching and he couldn’t burn me or destroy my things.
Fast forward to me at age 13 and I ended up making an online friend who was really cool. We talked a lot and eventually, with permission, arranged for us to meet up publically. My mom came with me, and his mom did too. I’ll call my friend Speedy. He was also being bullied at the time due to his family being rich and having a hero legacy but he was really… rigid. He got tormented a lot. It was through him I realized what Pomeranian was doing was wrong, and I stopped trying to be his friend at all. You’d think he’d like it but noooo he was upset I was ignoring him.
Our parents were upset to because I stopped trying during our meetings. At least our moms. His dad did not care and told his wife off when she tried forcing us to talk. But it got progressively more awkward as they kept forcing these get together. Mom would complain at me and I just said I was done trying to be friends with someone who hated me. She hated that and the cycle would begin again.
Now I don’t want to paint her as a bad mom: she’s the best. Kind and generous and helpful. She’s gone to bat for me before. It’s just this one giant blind spot she has because she is so… obsessed with us being friends.
Anyway, fast forward a bit more, I finally get my Quirk and get into a hero school. Speedy did too and, unknown to me, used the connections his family had to arrange a meeting with the principal and first-year teachers to explain what was going on with Pomeranian and me. I don’t know how this was done, but he managed it, even bringing me with him to said meeting. (Speedy is very particular and extreme, so honestly, maybe I shouldn’t be surprised). I explained everything and that I’d prefer to be separated because it’s my word against his and blah-blah. They agreed to keep us separate.
However unknown to me my mother had sent in a request to have us in the same class. When the teachers found it they reached out to me to ask. I told them no please don’t. I did not talk to my mom. Instead I just went on with life.
The first day back from school she asked me about it and brought up Pomeranian. I said he wasn’t in my class and I was happy cause I didn’t like him. She acted offended and asked why. I said because he treated me badly and she should know this given how many times my clothes were burned. Mom got huffy and said until I could prove to her he was a bad friend she would keep making us meet. She then said Speedy had to be at fault and she didn’t like him as my friend.
I got angry and as soon as I could went to the computer. The idiots in my old school had video taped a lot of the bullying in and posted it, though never with tags and always without Pomeranian in the camera. Except his Quirk was always visible and if you know him it’s obvious. I gather three hours worth of evidence but needed more. So with help from Speedy and a new friend in our class I confronted Pomeranian and demanded to know why he wasn’t fighting our parents. He hated me.
“You’re a worthless bug who should have taken my advice and jumped off a roof.” Where his words, mocking me no one would believe me. “And your mom likes me better anyway you freak.” More curses and insults, and then we left. With a. Recording of the convo. I added it to the evidence and planned to show it to my mom when I got home. But I ended up called to the principal’s office where my mom, the Pomeranian and his parents and our homeroom teachers were waiting. Mom demanded we be put together since we were friends and claimed Speedy was manipulating me. Pomeranian’s mom nodded along while his dad looked done.
I then revealed I had the evidence mom wanted. She got mad and demanded I show it. In front of everyone. So I did. Each incident of bullying, burning my belongings, the insults and the death threats. Even showed the times kids left spider lilies on my desk and the laughing from Pomeranian. And to top it off was the convo with him earlier.
Silence in the room. No one spoke and no one moved, simply stared at the computer I’d used. Mom looked so pale and horrified I’d feel bad but she hadn’t listened.
The principal then declared in light of this evidence, he was tempted to expel Pomeranian who went mental and started screaming abuse at me. He got shut up by the teachers. The principal said I was free to go but requested I did not go home with my mom. She became offended, but he just said he worried for me since she refuses to listen to anything. It quieted her. I felt bad, but honestly, I just wanted my friends. He then told me to take photos of my room which made both me and mom sick.
Thinking about it, I think he did it on purpose to provoke those feelings. To make Mom realize what she did. It worked since Mom really came through after that for me. She spoke to Speedy’s parents and asked for them to keep me for a while. She then arranged a meeting with my school counsellor, her and myself. We talked for a few hours, and she said she was going to try actual therapy. My counsellor told us that as me living with friends and keeping in contact seemed to be going well to perhaps continue. He wanted me back with my mom, but he’d prefer no setbacks.
Good thing to because my mom ended up needing to go into care for a while. I was shocked by this, but Pomeranian’s dad got in contact to explain things. (Mom knows about this post and said go ahead)
My bio-dad was physically and emotionally abusive towards my mom and once beat her so hard she lost a baby. My maternal grandparents were physically abusive to, and actually killed her younger brother. This resulted in extreme attachment issues, mixed in with her Quirk. Which confused us until we learned her Quirk was mislabelled. It’s a mental Quirk, and we didn’t actually realize that. In hindsight, it’s obvious. But part of this is she ‘attached’ herself to things, and it all ended up affecting her health WORSE.
I’m not sure of the full story. I don’t know if I’ll ever know the ‘full story’. I don’t know if I want to either. All I know is that she had a lot of personal issues that cause her to use her Quirk and attach herself to the idea of a ‘amazing friendship between her and Pomeranian’s mom and me and Pomeranian’.
Mom is doing better now. It’s been about six months, and I’m still staying with Speedy. Mom is seeing a therapist who is working through things and a Quirk counsellor. She also admitted it was best I keep staying with my friend as she feared that she’d backslide and try to force things again. She also no longer sees Pomeranian though she keeps in contact with his mom.
But as for my old Bully… Pomeranian ended up transferred to a different course in our school and was put into therapy. While the video was proof for them legally it could be contested easily. A kid from my class transferred to the other and then we got a kid form another course. By then somehow everyone in the school knew what had happened and my False Negative status got out. It wasn’t bad though. Everyone was actually really chill about it and they fully accepted me. I got extra help after class, and even made a buddy who has a mild form of DQD.
But anyway: that’s how I accidentally got revenge on my bully.

Howdy, hope your day is goin well! ❤︎ Ty for the ask ~ I could literally talk about Sasuke all day!! Same goes for Atla! I agree I love the water tribes, their culture is so fascinating and the sub bending is awesome- tho I do love me some fire benders too! if you don't mind my asking, do you have an Atla au for any Nart characters and or OCs?👀
Sasuke positivity squad!! YES. Started recently getting back into atla, there’s nothing quiet like it these days. THANK YOU FOR THE ASK! AH, VERY APPRECIATED✨
I’ve always genuinely liked water theme things (I blame pokemon). The others are just as cool too, they all have there good and dark sides, what makes it interesting to me. Even the podcasts with korra’s va and Dante zukos va, they do interesting stuff that I like to listen to :’). One of their recent eps is about sub classes from the main types and one was of cause blood bending. Everyone thinks dark thanks to the shows, but the guests they had up brought up a good point. You can or could use it for good things, to also save lives like normal water bending healing. (I to could legit talk about this for hours!!)
And YES, fire benders are wonderful! As quoted from Dante nearly all the time “THERE ARE GOOD PEOPLE IN THE FIRE NATION🗣” he’s precious for that. From watching the og series once again, I STILL think it’s a crime that zuko’s fire not being rainbow from the masters. (My crime list grows) I just think that be neat. He’s a bean in my house along with sasuke.
I do have OCs yes! And I remember when I was making them, one of my main ocs, I remembered Iroh and lowkey applied hes wisdom/vibe to her. Her name is Minami Uchiha. She’s now elderly now, I had to redraw her due to someone stealing my oc and making her…well…bad. I also have Suzume, Kano and now my new oc named Malice. Suzume is a yokai sparrow, while kano her son is half yokai who is a water spirit. Malice is also half yokai and shinagami. Kano and Malice fathers are Tobirama and Madara 😭 (their lore is all over the place and too long).
I haven’t got any atla au yet but, if my oc where benders, Suzume - air. Kano - water. Malice- fire. Minami - fire.
-
I do have a hc for Zuko having a baby lion turtle after war. (They’re my favourite hybrid animal other then turtle ducks). The new fire lord is a bit baffled for this creature being in the royal pond with his duckies!
#ask#mutual#akamikaze#I CAN TOO. BLAB ABOUT THIS FOR AGES😭😭#Oh! i forgot to say but. the novels! I’d love to get.#about kyoshi and yangchen!#anyways shshshs I’m rambling lmao 😭😭 THANK YOOOUUUUU

ʜᴇ ʜᴇᴀʀᴅ ᴛʜᴇ ᴄᴀʟʟ ᴏꜰ ᴛʜᴇ ꜱᴇᴀ.
scavenging the beach for pretty stones and shells had been noah's favorite pasttime. he was a shy and withdrawn kid; no one had ever wanted to play with him, so he found solace and company near the shoreline.
once, he'd found an unopened clam washed up on the beach.
he considered returning it to the ocean, but curiosity got the best of him, and instead, he brought it home to forcibly pry it open, to inspect what it was hiding within— he'd heard clams grew pearls inside of them!
with a little effort, the clam had had its contents exposed and promptly stolen— how could it not? when it housed such a curious pearl inside— black in color, though iridescent when the light hit it. it was beautiful. noah had quickly made it the cornerstone of his collection, and the now-empty clam had been tossed back into the sea the second day.
nothing's been the same ever since.
he could swear the pearl had been whispering to him late at night. incoherent mumbles that had kept him awake. cost him his sleep. caused him to start questioning reality— but he'd never told anyone about it. who'd believe him, from the friends he didn't have? he didn't want to tell his parents either out of fear of taking his prized possession away.
' take me with you, ' it said. it was the first coherent thing noah had heard the pearl whisper. he didn't, not at first, thinking he was just imagining things. why hadn't he tossed the thing away yet, he wondered? everytime he had the intention to do it, hand hovering over the jewel, he hesitated, and eventually simply stepped away. ' take me with you, ' it insisted.
unable to explain his actions, his reasonings, he did. he then kept the pearl close to himself at all times. he heard its whispering, always— though sometimes he could swear it sounded like little more than the waves crashing against the shore. the soft bubbling of seafoam. on ocassion, it was pleasant.
for the majority of the cases, however, the constant voices had driven him mad. slowly, but surely, the typically reserved boy had grown twitchy and easily snapped at people that dared to talk to him. just the teachers, at first, whenever they had some silly questions. he didn't even know what the classes were about lately. he hadn't taken any notes; failed so many tests. finally, the other kids have started to tease him, to mock him.
for one, it was the last thing they did, as he ruthlessly smashed the other boy's face against a brick wall, just slightly after classes on their way home, over and over.
frightened, he ran away.
he didn't tell anyone. how could he? the news were full of it the day after anyway.
his hair started to turn white. the whispers didn't stop.
he hated it at first, using hats and hoodies to try and cover up the silvery strands. if he wasn't a recluse before, he'd certainly become one now.
once, a girl had pulled his hoodie down. noah didn't remember what she said, but he did remember the laughter aimed at his seemingly-unnatural hair color.
next thing he remembered, was the warm taste of blood in his mouth.
he still managed to keep it a secret. somehow. despite the authorities growing concerned over these inexplicably brutal murders, noah kept his mouth shut about his involvement. of course, he couldn't avoid the eventual chastising by his mother for his grades starting to slip... she'd overlooked it at first, figuring it was just a puberty thing. but the moment she was informed that her son might not be able to graduate at this rate, she had to step in as the parent, the guardian.
a mistake.
the father heard the screams, the strange gurling— rushing upstairs to his son's room, he was horrified to find him clawing his mother's throat out; gore staining his face.
no witnesses.
the corpses were left to rot in the middle of his room. the boy, or what remained of him, didn't show his face at his school for the days to come. the teachers, even some of his classmates, had grown worried, and the police was contacted to investigate the sudden disappearance of the whole family.
they eventually arranged a forced entry into the house. it was a mess, the air was stuffy and smelled like death. dishes nearly rotting in the sink, with flies and other insects crawling about. they didn't find the son, but they did find the half-eaten, decayed corpses of who were later identified as his parents.
it kept the black pearl close to its heart. its whispers had become something of a comfort during the dark nights. little more than its icy-bright gaze pierced the thick morning mist.

Checkmate
As Logan opened the door to his office he can't help think back on what brought them here.
-------------It was a day like any other when he met him.---------------
Logan had a routine, he woke up at precisely 7:00 and put on his glasses got dressed in a black polo shirt with a pair of jeans with a black belt and a blue tie. And went down to make breakfast and say goodbye to his mom who's going to work. After eating breakfast and cleaning up he went to the bus with his backpack. He went to sit the same seat he always sat the second last row to the left by the window. Next to him sat James reading a book about flora and fauna. And they chat idle for a bit.
When he arrived at school everything seemed normal until he went to his seat only to find a boy sitting there. "Excuse me, you appear to be sitting in my seat. "The boy turned around to look at him with his hazel and brown eyes looking at Logan. "There is no assigned seating and I quite like this one." As the teacher walks in Logan huffs and sits next to him. "Everyone I have an announcement to make we have a new student, Janus Serpentine please welcome him with the same respect you would give to your other peers, Janus you can come up here and tell a bit about yourself." Janus stood up and went to the front of the class. "Hello I just moved here from Catania, Italy. I like snakes and reading. I used to be apart of the debate club at my old school and I didn't like moving to a different country"
"Okay why don't you sit back down and we can find you someone to show you around school." Janus sat back down next to Logan. "Logan why don't you give Janus a tour of the school." Logan sighed and stood up and went to stand by the door, "are you coming?" Janus stood up to follow. Logan and Janus spent most of the tour talking about whether or not the school system is a good thing the tour lasted until lunch. Janus ended up joining Logan & James for lunch. "Who's this, Lo?", asked James. "This is Janus Serpentine he is in my homeroom, and will be in my English, geography and PE this year." James nodded. They spent the rest of the day together.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Logan sighed as he went to sit at his desk. He began pulling out paperwork as Thomas came in. "I brought those case files you wanted, sir" Logan looked up at Thomas. "Thank you, Thomas. Did you interview Miss Havenwoods?" Logan said while he sorted out the paper work. "Yes sir, but she refused to talk to me" Thomas said a bit ashamed. "Did she mention why?" Logan said looking back up. "Yes she said she already lost one son she didn't want to lose another." Logan's brow furrowed as he puts the paperwork down "Dammit she was our only lead to taking down the mafia" Logan groaned in frustration. "Thomas, I need some time alone to think about our next step." Thomas nodded and left through the door.
Logan stood up and went to his file cabinet and began pulling out several files. He went to sit back down and started looking through the files.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"School is so annoying!!!" yelled Jessica as the librarian shushed her. "Why are you complaining your always in the top 5 without trying" James said as he rolled his eyes. "Well just because I am naturally smart doesn't mean I don't have to love school!!! Janus back me up" Janus looks up from his book. "Yes of course I would love to be included in this childish debate, instead of doing this project that's worth 50% of our grade" Jessica lightly pushes Janus causing him to huff dramatically. "Since when do you care I'm pretty sure you cheated on the exam last semester." Janus playfully shoved back "Oh, how sure are you?" Jessica rolled her eyes. "Like 90% sure" Janus mockingly squinted his eyes at her. "Really how sure are you?" Jessica laughs "Okay 75%, but I know you didn't study, so you must've cheated" Janus smirked "Not in any way you can prove" Jessica shoved Janus again while he's laughing...
"Hey, Logan, you spaced out, are you okay?" Janus asked giving a gentle tap on Logan shoulder. Logan suddenly looked at Janus startled. "Yea..ye..es yes of course, just thinking." Janus hummed "About what, do tell me." Logan avoided Janus's gaze instead looking at the wall. "I'm merely thinking about the project." Janus narrowed his eyes "Well-" Whatever he was about to say got interrupted by James and Jessica bickering. As librarian came over to shush them. "So are we doing this project or not." Janus turned his attention back to James. "Yes, if the both of you can stop bickering." They spent rest of the time doing the project.
As Logan packed up his school bag, Janus suddenly grabbed his arm and dragged him out of the library and into a broom closet. "Is there a reason for you to drag me in here?" Janus rolled his eyes "You lied back there, what were you thinking?" Logan tried to look anywhere but his friends eyes. "You know we care about you, we'll always be there for you no matter what and you can tell me what's wrong I'll help even if it means thrashing the principle car" Logan snorted "What we both know he deserved it, he had no prove that Jessica cheated" Logan smiled and shook his head then looked back up towards Janus.
"I...my mother...our home was trashed..."Janus looks surprised. "And we've been starting to get death threats about money....I confronted my mom about these and she....she then admitted to borrowing money from the mob." As tears started showing in Logan's eyes. "How....how much does she owe...?"Logan shakes his head. "She still owes them 5000.She said she needed the money for grandma's surgery...I don't know what to do we don't have the money to pay it back..." Logan breathing turned rapid. "Logan look at me, everything is going to be fine, take a deep breathe for 4 seconds." Logan breathed in. "1...2...3...and 4, your doing good. Now hold for 7, and now breathe out in 8."Logan breathed out. They repeated this a few times until Logan clamed down. "Now listen everything is going to be okay. I'm going to help you with the money."
Logan shook his head. "I couldn't possibly take that much money from you...I'm not sure if we can even pay it back." Janus placed his hands on Logan shoulders. "You don't have to pay it back..." Logan looked shocked. "Bu...but...you don't have to do that.." Janus smiled "Logan you're dear friend to me and I know you can't pay for it." Logan smiled at Janus. "Thank you..."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The traffic light finally turned green. Logan drove his car forward and towards the first crime scene. He turned on the radio to help calm his nerves in the middle of a song a call interrupted .Logan answered the call. "Logan we've might have found a lead on who's the mafia's boss" said Thomas on the other side. Logan turned his car around to go toward his office. Thomas was already waiting in his office, when Logan enter it. "Hello sir." Logan nodded towards Thomas. "Who's the suspect?" Logan said when Thomas handed the file to him. "Janus Serpentine" Logan dropped the file in shock. "I'm sorry... I didn't think I heard you right..." Thomas looked shocked "I.. said Janus Serpentine"
Logan remembers crying in Janus bedroom. He remembers Janus voice saying "It's gonna be okay Logan... Maybe I can get my parents to take you in." He remembers looking up to Janus in a sort of disbelief mixed with suspicion. Janus nodded knowingly "Do you want to talk about it" as he wiped the tears from Logan's eyes "What should I talk about that this is probably the last time we see each other or that I have to move to a different country with an aunt that I barely know or maybe the fact my mother died" Janus hugged Logan "it's okay one day you'll figure out what to do, whether that is to avenge her or honor her wishes that'll be up to you, but until then you just need to try healing." Logan remembers that was the last time he saw Janus.
Logan didn't want to believe it, the first few weeks of investigating was a blur to him, but after the first few weeks his emotions began to clear up from anger, confusion and sadness to determination. After months of investigating more and more evidence came to light each one more incriminating than the last until finally there was enough evidence to arrest Janus Serpentine, most of which is circumstantial
It had felt like a long drive to Janus mansion. Logan never wanted to believe it but there was too much evidence supporting it. And besides looking back it made sense, after all Janus never told anyone what his parents did for a living that made that much money. It explained the strange men that visited his house and the strange look in his eyes whenever there's a mafia related death, how he had known how Logan's mother had died without being told and without it being in the papers first. Why the cop looked the other way the only time he had convinced Logan to skip a class and they went to an abandoned library that was being remodeled. "We're here!" a loud voice knocked Logan out of his thoughts.
"Thomas stay in the car if I'm not out in our agreed time call for backup" Logon told Thomas as he was getting out the car. "Shouldn't I go with you, we're not allowed to go in alone" Logan shook his head. "I'll be fine, I need to do this alone" Logan closed the door and began walking towards the mansion gates. Logan pressed the intercom's button, it buzzed and a gruff voice answered "Who's there, and could you state your business with Mr. Serpentine?" Logan responded "Could you inform him that Logan Berry is looking for him."
After a few minutes there was a buzzing noise and then the gate opened. Logan steeled himself and walked in and towards the mansion front door. It open as Logan reached for the door a tall bald muscled man in a black suit greeted him. "Follow me" the man in the black suit quickly turned around and begun walking, Logan followed him. After a while they reached a large ornate door. The man in the black suit knocked on the "he's here" he walked away as the door opened. Logan walked in and was greeted by a tall blonde man with burn marks on half of his face, his were amber and brown, he smiled to Logan. "It's been a long time we last saw each other, would you like some tea?"
"Your apart of the mafia..." Janus smiled weakly as he poured a cup of tea for Logan. "Why don't you sit down" Logan hesitantly shook his head "No I won't I am here to do my job" Janus cocked his eyebrow "Really than why did you come here without a partner or backup" Logan narrowed his eyes. "Why didn't you stop them" Janus seamed surprised by the sudden question. "I'm sorry but your mother was barely able to pay the first debt I couldn't get my parent to agree me paying off her debt a second time, besides I think they knew she couldn't pay them off, I belief that they just wanted to use her as an example." Janus said expressionless. "Why didn't you call the police" Logan said in anger. "I couldn't betray my family like that, no matter who had to get hurt."
Logan hand clenched into a fist. But he took a deep breath to calm down. "Janus you and both know you're guilty so it would be beneficiary if you'll confess and turn yourself." Janus studently angerly stood up "YOU DARE, come in my home after we haven't spoken in years and accused me on circumstantial evidence, and you and I both know you'll never find enough evidence to even get a warrant so, if you so please leave my home before I'll have your fiancé sleeping with the fishes, as they say." Logan looked shocked "How..." Janus rolled his eyes "Did you really think I wouldn't notice you poking around" Logan's face morphed into one of anger "You have no right to threaten him, or-" "Or what are you going to be doing, nothing, so I suggest you skip town before you end up just like your mother." Deep seething anger boiled in Logan's chest, so much that he pulled his pistol from his jacket and year of determination of looking for a way to bring his mother killer to justice, years of being lied to and unanswered questions, months of dead ends and false herrings and a decade of pent up emotions fueled his actions, as he aimed his gun towards Janus and then-"

BIO
Long before Kelly Sullivan found himself back in New York and incarcerated, even before he shacked up with his wife and settled down to have a kid, he briefly called Austin, Texas his home. If only for a few months, but in that short amount of time, he met a woman, fell in lust and her bed, sweet-talked her out of a large sum of money and disappeared from her life. He left her heartbroken, angry, and unbeknownst to either of them at the time, pregnant. Luke grew up never knowing about that man, another having stepped into place to fill a bit of that void. Neil O’Doherty was a good man overall, dependable, though not always the softest with his wife when she needed it. He believed in tough love more than he should and it showed in some of the fights they had, particularly concerning Luke and how he was raised. Nothing earth-shattering, but Bobbie was very protective of her son and tended to turn a bit of a blind eye to him when he messed up. But the pair loved him, loved him enough to shelter him from his true heritage of crime and deceit, even when Kelly returned to Austin hoping for safe harbor, a mistake that earned him a good beating and sent him on his way. From that day on, Luke questioned things, his life, his mother, his parentage. Tacitly at first, for years anyway. High school came and went, Luke having done well enough to graduate toward the top of his class, but that wasn’t his greatest success. He loved baseball, something Neil had gotten him into, and excelled from Little League into high school, so much so that he was scouted by the Texas Rangers in his senior year. They wanted him to develop more skills, discipline, and have a somewhat normal collegiate experience, so they brought him into their minor league team and asked that he attend a junior college while doing so. It wasn’t Luke’s ideal situation, but it was something and something good, that he had earned for himself and that made his parents proud, so he jumped at the chance. It was the first step to the majors, after all, or it would have been had he not gone astray. During his first year playing, his father fell ill. Cancer. Terminal. Neil, one foot in the grave, told him the truth, fearing that he’d die and Bobbie would never be honest— I may not have had a part in your conception, but you are my son and always have been. That news threw Luke for a complete loop, caused an upheaval within him that he never saw coming. Not only did his studies suffer, but his mental health took a hit that it had never received before. To cope, Luke began partying with his classmates and teammates, drinking, doing drugs, and fucking as much as he could to get himself numb enough to function. What he hadn’t accounted for were the random drug tests that the team endured without warning and when his first surprise one came back dirty, he was promptly booted from both the team and his school. The disappointment was enough to drive a final wedge between Luke and his parents, and after Neil died, he took off to sort himself out. After years of struggling and working hard, Luke finally found himself in good place, overall. He reconnected with his mother, forgave her for never coming clean regarding his biological father and his family, and vowed that Kelly Sullivan would pay, in one way or another, for how he’d hurt Bobbie. From then on out, while continuing on the straight and narrow and securing a job closer to his own dream career than away from it, he did all the digging necessary to track Kelly down and get close enough to his world to shake it up.

Paring: Five Hargreeves X Wife!Reader
Summary: Five storms out to time travel after an argument with his wife and comes back to an unexpected surprise.
A/N: Five time travels at the age of 26 instead of 13
He was angry, that wasn’t mistaken, “ You aren’t listening to me! “
“ Are you hearing yourself?! What you’re about to do is dangerous! “ She yelled in response, and he scoffed.
They stood in the main room of their apartment. Y/n was placed in the kitchen leaning on the island while Five was dangerously close to the door. Both of them at the age of twenty-five. They had gotten married only a year before finding each other during one of his trips to Griddy’s with his siblings. He thought she was the prettiest thing he had ever seen.
Five stalked closer to her, “ You are so stubborn. “
“ I am the strongest one. “ His voice was dangerously low as they stood only a foot apart, “ I will do this. I don’t care what you say. Nothing will change that. “
“ Five, please. “ Y/n begged, “ I’m- I’m just worried about you. “
“ You don’t need to be. “ Five snapped, and he fast-walked to the door.
The male swung open the door, “ Five wait, please- “ But before she could finish, the door slammed, “ I’m pregnant. “
It was new news. She didn’t find out until a week earlier. She didn’t know when to tell him; there never was a suitable time. Now he had just threatened to fulfill a lifetime goal of his– time travel. Since he was a boy, he’s wanted to prove his worth. The only way Five could think to do that is by time-traveling into the future. He didn’t know what the future would entail. He definitely didn’t plan to get stuck in an apocalypse.
So for nine torturous months, Y/n endured a pregnancy. She was carrying a child of her presumed to be dead husband, which she didn’t believe in the slightest. Five Hargreeves was alive, and she knew that regardless of what anyone told her. She had a baby boy who she named Malachi. The same bright, alluring green as his fathers.
Despite his birth father not being around, Diego was a significant help. Diego stepped in where Five couldn’t. He was there for all of Malachi’s firsts and everything in between. But he was always Uncle Diego. A constant reminder that this man wasn’t his father. As far as the little boy knew, he didn’t have a father.
Things got more tricky as he got older. Malachi realized that a father figure was more common than not, which brought raising questions. She answered to the best of her abilities, but nothing was ever valid. None of her answers could be a hundred percent true because she didn’t know either. It was killing her to see her son this way.
He longed for a father. Wanted nothing more for a father-son relationship. Every birthday, every Christmas, he wished for his father to come home. It was killing Y/n because she understood his pain. The amount of dread, guilt, and sadness.
Maybe if she had told Five sooner, he would’ve never left. The guilt ate away at her. It was like an insect slowly crawling its way under her skin into her bones and nibbling them until they were gone. It didn’t help Malachi was an exact replica of his father. The dark, almost raven hair parted to the side, the glittering green eyes and a defined face.
No matter how long Five was gone, Y/n never took off her rings. She was a married woman until proven otherwise. Malachi had never even seen photos of his father. That was normal to him. All he knew was that his Uncles and Aunts told him he looked the exact same. Despite the same appearances, they had clashing personalities.
Malachi was the sweetest guy you could ever meet. Kind no matter who the person was. Wise beyond his years and intelligent like no other. His strong suit was English while he struggled in math. The irony was amusing. His father excelled in math, but he couldn’t do a two-step equation if he tried.
In the grand scheme of things, this didn’t matter. He got all the way up to high school. He was seventeen, to be exact, in his junior year of school. It was the summer before his senior year, and he couldn’t be more excited. As the years went on, the hope of meeting his father diminished to the point where he didn’t even think about it anymore.
He had his mom, and that’s all that mattered. His mom was his rock, his number one supporter, and his best friend. Malachi loved his mom more than anything and would give anything to keep her safe. Diego had grown to be like a father to him, but it was never the same. Malachi was sitting at the island doing homework while Y/n was cooking.
“ Hey, mom? “ He called, “ Yeah? “ Y/n turned to look at her son.
Malachi fidgeted with the pencil in his hand, “ Can I- Can I see your rings? “
“ My rings? Why? “ She asked, “ Well, dad gave them to you, didn’t he? “ Malachi replied.
Y/n nodded, “ Of course he did. We were married, technically we still are married. “
“ I just wanted to see what dad gave you. “ He murmured.
Hesitantly Y/n twisted both her engagement ring and her wedding ring off her left ring finger. She set them down on the granite island before her son so he could look at them. Gently he picked the engagement ring up and looked at it. It was the only time he’s ever seen the ring this close. She never took them off.
“ We got engaged in the snow. “ Y/n informed quietly, “ I really wasn’t expecting it. He never seemed like one to settle down. “
Malachi listened intently, “ Regardless. It was almost Christmas, and he took me to go Christmas shopping at one of the malls which was outside. “ She chuckled, “ Why he did that, I don’t know, but it was amusing. We got hot chocolate despite his love for coffee, and I made him wear a Santa hat. “
“ He was never into festivities before meeting me. Neither were your Aunts and Uncles. I started making holidays become more festive when you were born. Eventually, they got the hang of it. “ Y/n continued, “ Why was dad's name a number? “ He interjected.
“ He never got a name like the rest of his siblings. “ She answered plainly, “ Why? “
Y/n sighed, “ His father, more specifically your grandfather was a cruel man. Still is a very cruel man, which is why you’ve never met him. Reginald made the Umbrella Academy, where he adopted your dad along with his other siblings. “ She explained, “ They endured long days of training without breaks and horrid living environments. They were treated as experiments rather than children. “
“ They all got names, but Five didn’t want one. He rejected it because it didn’t matter. Name or anything. Their numbers would always define them, and Five was the only one who understood that. “ She finished.
“ What really happened to him? I know you’ve given me vague explanations, but I think I’m ready for the real thing. “ Malachi stated, “ I’m seventeen now. “
“ I know. Your father had powers. His others siblings do as well. They all do certain things. Five could travel through space and time. “ Y/n began, “ Growing up, he always felt the need to prove himself, to be better than everyone else. “
“ So, one day, he told me he was going to time travel. It was a big argument that definitely didn’t need to happen. At the time, I was a week pregnant with you, and I didn’t know how to tell him. “ She swallowed the emotions arising after remembering Five’s glare,
“ When I told him, it was too late. He was already out the door and gone. “
Y/n walked forward and took the rings back. She placed them back on her ring finger carefully as her son watched every movement. He knew she was upset. Malachi couldn’t help but be a bit resentful towards his father. All this to make a point? It seemed far-fetched.
“ That solution seems a bit absurd. “ Malachi commented, “ That's what I was trying to tell him, but he was very prideful and stubborn. “ Y/n replied.
A knock echoed through the apartment. The room felt tense. It wasn’t right; something felt off. Malachi felt it immediately cause he stood up and began walking to the door, wanting to protect his mother if a threat was there. Secretly Diego may have given him some defense classes, but that didn’t matter.
The boy opened the door to see almost the exact same face staring back at him, “ Who are you? “ Malachi snapped.
“ More importantly, who are you? “ The man retorted.
Every hair on Y/n’s body stood up. She knew that voice, and she knew that tone. It was him. He was back. It took everything inside her not to scream or cry but seeing Malachi hold his defensive stance against his own father was worrying her.
“ Malachi. “ She called, and he turned to her as she began to walk to the door, “ I need you to go to your room and promise not to eavesdrop. “
He wanted to protest, “ Please, sweet. I’ll be okay. I promise. “
Reluctantly Malachi backed away from the door giving the man a harsh glare that made the man evidently tense. Y/n waited for Malachi to be fully retreated in his bedroom before looking at the man in front of her.
“ Well. It looks like you’ve moved on. “ Five murmured, “ No- please. It isn’t what it looked like. “ She pleaded.
Her hand took his, and he recognized the rings on her finger. The same rings Malachi had just been examining. The same rings he took months to search for to find the perfect fit for his perfect girl. Everything seemed so colorful in his greyscale world now. His wife was still his.
“ Who- Who is he? “ His voice trembled as his lingering suspicion felt more accurate than ever, “ Come in and sit. We need to talk. “ Her voice was gentle and held no malice.
Five entered the now unrecognizable apartment. It wasn’t the same as when he left. In fact, everything seemed moved out of place. Y/n walked to the stove and turned off the burner that she was using. Five had peered at the papers on the island that were math worksheets and took a seat beside them.
“ Where did you go? “ She asked, “ The future. “
“ No shit. What did it look like? “ Y/n retorted playfully, “ It’s not as I hoped. It’s an apocalypse, love. “ His voice held so much pent emotion it was almost radiating off him.
She sighed, “ Okay. We need to talk about that- “
“ I- I want to know who that kid is. “ Five interrupted, and she gave him a knowing look, “ Malachi, can you come out here. “ Y/n called, and instantly he was out of his room.
The boy stood beside his mom, still not comfortable with the unfamiliar man. This time Five got a chance to really look at the teenage boy in front of him. The defined face, the almost raven hair, the same sage green eyes. His posture was protective and territorial, obviously for his mom.
“ Y/n… “ Five began as he swallowed the tears in his throat, “ Is- Is he mine? “
She nodded, “ Five Hargreeves, I’d like you to meet your son, Malachi Hargreeves. Malachi, I’d like you to meet your father, Five. “

you belong with me
| pairings: rafe cameron x fem!bestfriend!reader
| summary: you and rafe are bestfriends and you’ve always liked him, what happens when he gets a girlfriend and she manipulates him?
| warnings: angst, swearing, toxic relationship, manipulation. ( not you and rafe. )
| A/N: rafe is not a murderer in this and he’s a softy. also not proofread bc yeah 😫
You're on the phone with your girlfriend, she's upset, She's going off about something that you said 'Cause she doesn't get your humor like I do.
you and rafe were laying on his bed, his girlfriend was on the phone, rafe said a hilarious joke and i covered my mouth trying not to laugh. she scoffed at a joke rafe said she obviously didn’t like it and said,
‘ that’s so not funny, that joke is so fucking stupid, rafe. ' rafe’s face fell at her comment and he stayed quiet, i rolled my eyes at his girlfriend’s words.
I'm in the room, it's a typical Tuesday night I'm listening to the kind of music she doesn't like.
you were in your room dancing to a song rafe’s girlfriend absolutely despised but you didn’t care about her opinion it was you and rafe’s favorite song.
you and the cameron’s were neighbors and you and rafe’s windows happend to be directly facing each other so rafe was looking at you through his window laughing, which you didn’t know.
And she'll never know your story like I do
rafes girlfriend didn’t know absolutely anything about his story life, she never even bothered to ask him. you knew, you knew everything, starting with his dad being an asshole to his own son, his mother leaving him and so on.
But she wears short skirts I wear T-shirts she's Cheer Captain, and I'm on the bleachers.
you sat on the bleachers with your other bestfriend, kie. you cheered for rafe as he just got a touchdown, you stood up to go and congratulate him but you saw his girlfriend sprinting over to him, she had a short skirt on and she grabbed him and kissing him.
you sighed and shook your head as you sat back down, you wore a basic worn down shirt because there was no reason for you to dress up, right? kie frowned as she knew your true feelings for the boy, rubbing your back in comfort.
Dreaming about the day when you wake up and find that what you're looking for has been here the whole time.
you sat in class as your put your hand under your chin and daydreamed about rafe finally realizing that you like him and he does too, but you know that will never happen.
If you could see that I'm the one Who understands you Been here all along So, why can't you see? You belong with me, You belong with me.
you layed on your back on your bed, staring up at the ceiling, a frown on your face as your thoughts were corrupting your mind. why didn’t he see? why didn’t he see that you understand him, you love him.
Walk in the streets with you in your worn-out jeans I can't help thinking this is how it ought to be Laughing on a park bench thinking to myself Hey, isn't this easy?
you and rafe walked down the street, talking about random things, the moonlight and the street lights were the only light reflecting in the street. you and rafe stopped at a park bench and laughed at random memories you both thought about in your childhood.
and you've got a smile That can light up this whole town I haven't seen it in a while Since she brought you down You say you're fine, I know you better than that. Hey, what you doing with a girl like that?
you loved rafes smile and his laugh, overall you just loved seeing him happy, you haven’t seen him and laugh or smile in weeks after she made fun of his laugh and smile, you told her off but rafe said,
‘ y/n, please. i’m fine. it’s not even a big deal. ' you knew he was lying, he took it really hard, you could read him like an open book.
She wears high heels I wear sneakers She's Cheer Captain, and I'm on the bleachers Dreaming about the day when you wake up and find That what you're looking for has been here the whole time.
another game you went too and another day you were in fact alone, rafe was ignoring you for whatever reason and his curtains blocked any sign of him.
If you could see that I'm the one Who understands you Been here all along So, why can't you see? You belong with me.
you’ve been bestfriends with rafe since you were little and your crush grew more and more over time but why did he never notice? did he not like you the same so he just decided to ignore it?
Standing by and waiting at your backdoor All this time how could you not know, baby? You belong with me, You belong with me.
you stood at the cameron’s backdoor debating if you should even knock or just walk away, rafe was still ignoring you and you wanted to get to the bottom of it and figure out why.
you raised your fist to knock on the backdoor but just couldn’t bring yourself to do it, you shook your head and sighed, walking away.
little did you know rafe was watching you from his window hoping you would knock.
Oh, I remember you driving to my house In the middle of the night I'm the one who makes you laugh When you know you're 'bout to cry.
you and rafe laid on your bed, rafe drove over to your house and you didn’t question it, he asked if you could talk so this is where you ended up, laying on your bed as he ranted to you.
he told you about problems he’s been having with his girlfriend, how she made him ignore you for weeks but he couldn’t take it anymore. all the pressure his dad had been putting on him and the arguments over the past week too. the fight he got into with his other bestfriend, topper, over his girlfriend.
you noticed his eyes getting glossy as he spoke, you made a joke and he laughed his glossy eyes quickly going away.
And I know your favorite songs And you tell me 'bout your dreams Think I know where you belong Think I know it's with me.
you talked about your favorite songs and also listened to them, you told each other about your dreams. you cherished these moments with him cause you knew his girlfriend would soon ruin them.
Can't you see that I'm the one Who understands you?Been here all along So, why can't you see? You belong with me.
‘ why don’t you leave her? she’s obviously just using you and manipulating you.' you spoke up, rafe rolled his eyes and scoffed.
‘ no she’s not. she loves me. '
‘ mhm, totally! rafe you don’t see what she’s doing too you! she tried to break up our friendship and she’s doing the same with you and topper. '
‘ you know she was right. your just trying to break us up, i shouldn’t of come here. '
‘ rafe, wait! ' you yelled but he already shut your bedroom door and ran down the stairs, you shook your head tears falling down your face, you knew you were right.
Standing by and waiting at your backdoor All this time how could you not know, baby? You belong with me, You belong with me.
you fell back on your bed, you just didn’t understand, after all this time he still didn’t know?
you would’ve done anything for him but he was just too blind in love with a girl who was just using him.
You belong with me Have you ever thought just maybe You belong with me? You belong with me.
in reality he didn’t belong with you. you grabbed your phone and deleted all photos of him, Instagram posts of him, and anything that would remind you of him.

do you ever think about bakugo and izuku’s whole relationship through the eyes of their parents? the slow but certain shift from best friends to distant strangers? do they know of the bullying? does inko know where deku would get his bruises from every week? did mitsuki know why bakugo would have angry outbursts alone in his room late at night? did they ever know about their loss of each other?
-
it used to be that bakugo would meet deku at his door every day when they were kids. inko would open the door for bakugo to ask if deku wanted to play to which deku would come running through waving bye to his mom as they both excitedly begin talking about their plan for that day.
mitsuki calling inko around sunset to ask her if it’s okay with her if deku spends the night because they both are begging and pleading for a sleepover. since it’s the weekend inko says it’s alright with her. cause it always is okay and always has been.
the double lunches they’d often pack and the dual toy sets cause “i want kacchan to have a matching one with me!” and “deku likes those little oranges so can you put two in my bag please?” and the long after school days out and even longer summers spent together, running around, never home, always coming back with scrapes and bruises but the biggest smiles ever, began to eventually fade
it was inko who noticed first. they were in middle school now and izuku hadn’t mentioned bakugo in a while. and whenever she brought him up he’d smile sheepishly and try to divert the question with a “oh kacchan? he’s doing fine! we’re just both really busy is all” it wasn’t soon later that he started coming home with bruises about once or twice a week. “it’s okay i just fell!” “i hit my arm on my desk on the way out” “i got hit with a ball in gym class today” was always the reasonings. inko never fully believed him, but he seemed fine beyond that, she figured it was normal, cause he used to get bruises from playing as a kid, maybe teens still did too? does he still play like a kid enough to get bruises? does he still have anyone to play or hang out with at all?
it took a bit longer but mitsuki noticed too. “how’s izuku been? havent seen that kid around in a while. you still talk with him?” she mentioned in passing one dinner. Bakugo’s grip on his fork instinctively tighten a bit before he relaxed again and tried to play it all off. “he’s fine. and no not really” beyond that mitsuki has never been able to get more out of katsuki when in regards to izuku. she may not try to butt into her kids life too much, but she knows damn well enough when things aren’t right.
they run into each other at the store one day. mitsuki and inko shoot the breeze, talking about generic life things here and there. ‘things are good, job is fine, looking forward to the holidays, etc etc.’ the topic of their sons get brought up soon there after. “yeah i realized they haven’t been hanging around as much huh? i guess kids just kinda become too busy eventually to keep playing pretend” mitsuki said. “definitely, of course. in fact izuku had mentioned that they both had very busy schedules that prevented them from ever having free time together. i guess it just happens. i’m still worried about them though i hope they’re not arguing or something.” inko replies. “arguing? nah, our kids may not be the best with expressing themselves, but i know one thing, they both mean too damn much to each other to just go about without working out any issues they have. they’ll be okay” after a bit more chatting they eventually said their goodbyes and parted ways. that was the last time in years they would see each other.
izuku and bakugo began to grow even more distant. so much so that inko swore she saw pain in izuku’s eyes whenever she’d ask how kacchan was doing. when asked about izuku, bakugo tended to react with annoyance before calming down and giving his typical “he’s fine i guess.” response.
“how tragic.” both their inko and mitsuki would think. “how tragic for them to have slowly and all so quietly lost something so entirely special in both each other, and themselves.”
#i just can’t stop thinking about it#like how hard did both deku and bakugo try to keep them in the dark#and how sad is it to go from almost co parenting these kids#to one day never seeing them again#it’s sad is it not?#my hero academia#boku no academia#mha#bnha#katsuki bakugo#izuku mydoria#inko midoriya#mitsuki bakugou#decchan#bakudeku#katsudeku

Among Angels|1| Top Gun Maverick
masterlist
Iceman head cannon
*author's note* I am actually like this version alot better than Chasing Angels so far. Also the Charlie who is mentioned is the one from the first top gun movie
Second chapter will come next Wednesday
Summer 2005
Tom “Iceman’ Kazansky wasn’t happy, in fact he was borderline furious, his daughter Bianca had gotten into the Naval Academy and was graduating at the top of her class, co valadicton with Steven Kerner the son of his former RIO and his husband Pete had decided at the last minute that he wanted to take a mission that would put him in the middle of Indian Ocean for 6 weeks starting the day before she graduated.
Right as their daughter was getting ready to graduate and ready to go to the Naval Academy. He forgave a lot with him, but this was not forgivable . And Bianca was completely heartbroken about it, though she played it off much like Maverick would have, cracking jokes and doing stupid stuff it still hurt her. So much so that she told his sister Ana that she only ever felt like she was Ice’s daughter, that when Maverick was around he cared more about Bradley then he did about her.
And she was his kid.
And it had caused a lot of tension between Bianca and Bradley who had been super close when they were growing up, close enough that when he found out that Bianca wasn’t going to her junior prom due to not being asked, left school for the weekend and showed up at the Kazansky’s house and went with her. And for that Iceman would be forever grateful for that. It made her special and wanted by people other than the members of their family.
“Hey Commander, got a second?” A small voice came from the entrance of his office on the Naval base. Iceman, having been shaking from his thoughts, looked up and smiled. “For my daughter, I have all the time in the world.” Bianca offered him a sad smile before she went into the office and folded herself into a ball on the leather couch.
“Everything okay?” He asked as he got up to join her. Usually she never visited his office, she waited until he got home to talk about what happened at school. “No.” He knelt in front of her. “I went home early from school.” Seeing the look on her father’s face, “I wasn’t feeling good, Aunt Ana came and picked me up.” Bianca never skipped school unless she was sick like she was for a week in her junior year, “When we got home, Maverick was there.”
She never referred to Maverick as her father, it was always Maverick. That underlying anger that he had in him, just under the surface, was bubbling up. He leaves for months on end and just shows up and throws everything out of whack.
“What happened?”
“He didn’t realize it was me. He thought I was Uncle Alex’s daughter. How can someone forget his daughter? I know you sent pictures to him. I don’t look that much different do I?”
Recently she and Iceman’s younger sister Ana dyed her hair a red color which matched her personality well. In fact it brought it out more. “No sweetheart. You don’t look any different, just more beautiful.’ A small smile played on the corner of her mouth.
“Was he always like this? Just up and leaving then showing up again when it's good for him?” He had moved to sit next to her couch and ran his hand over his head, ‘Yeah, he has always been like this.” “Then why be with you and why agree to raise me with you?”
“That kid I couldn’t tell you when you were first born, he was home a lot, he brought Bradley to meet you at the hospital. He carted you around more than I was able to. You were the light in a dark time in his life.” ‘If that was the case Dad, why doesn’t he want anything to do with me? He would rather be around Bradley than me.”
Ice put his arm around her shoulders and pulled her to him. “I don’t know baby girl. I don’t.” The aide knocked on the door, “Commander, they are ready for you.” “I should get home. I left Ana and Alex alone with Maverick.” He nodded his head before pressing a kiss against the side of her head, “I will be home soon.”
“Yes sir.” She grinned before standing up and brushing past the aide who turned his head to watch her walk away before he met the Commanders eyes and flushed. “She is 17, and is off limits to Sanders.” “What are you going to do sir, when she is in Maryland thousands of miles away.’
The commander smirked at that, he had friends all over the country and the woman that carried Bianca for him and Maverick, Charlie was at the academy and would keep an eye on her too. She would be covered, but there was no way in hell he was going to admit that out loud.
~*~
The third garage door was open when Bianca pulled into her normal spot and frowned seeing Maverick standing tinkering with the old Mustang that they had gotten her for her 15th birthday. The last real time she had seen or spent time with him. His dark eyes went to her as she got out of the car.
“Are you going to run away again?” He asked.
‘Are you?” She returned twirling the key ring around her finger, “What are you doing here Mav?” “You are graduating in a week.”
She faked surprise and clapped her hands together, “Wow, I am surprised you knew that.” “I.” He started. “Don’t bullshit me Mav, you don’t remember anything or what to come home for anything . I wouldn’t be surprised if Dad or myself dropped dead that you would come rushing back from the carrier or that god damn hanger in the middle of nowhere.”
“How did you know about that?”
Bianca raised her eyes to the sky and then back at him, “I went through your personnel file. Dad had it open on his computer and I was there working on homework. So I looked. And one day when I didn’t have school, I drove out there and saw you.”
Maverick felt his heart drop to his stomach. That hanger was his hideaway, the one place he could go and be alone and wallow in the guilt he still felt years later of Gooses death, of hurting Penny and Ice, hurting his daughter and destroying his relationship with Bradley. No one was ever meant to know about it.
“Why start a family Mav, when you really don’t want us? When you really didn’t want me? You were here when Aunt Carole died and stayed until you pulled Bradley’s papers. What did we do to make you hate us so much?”
“B! Come in here and help with dinner before your uncle burns down the whole house.’
“Comin’ Ana.” She called back, “If you stay just don’t hurt dad again. He doesn’t need that. Not with him getting ready for another promotion.”
“Princess! Let’s go!’ Alex called from the depths of the house.
Bianca just glanced at him once before going into the kitchen, her aunt squeezing her elbow as she passed. “You know Pete, she is right.’ the older Kazansky girl commented as she stepped into the garage, her arms folded under her chest, “Tom doesn’t need that hurt anymore and neither does that girl. When she found that you weren’t going to come because of that stupid deployment, she waited until my brothers went to bed and she cried herself to sleep. She thinks that you don’t want her, that Bradley is more important to you than her. You have really fucked up Pete. You are going to have to make this right before you lose both of them for good. They are your family and just because you are scared of losing them doesn’t make abandoning them okay. Not by a long shot.”
Maverick felt completely numb as Ana walked back into the house carrying a bottle of vodka from the freezer calling into the house for Bianca to gather shot glasses, he knew that he had messed badly and he had for years, but he knew that his daughter would think she meant nothing to him, and that he cared for Bradley more than her. Too much time had passed and he wondered if it was too late to make it up to not only Bianca but Iceman.

Once Again (PT.I) | Iwaizumi Hajime (Haikyu!)
ONCE AGAIN : PART ONE
Summary: Iwaizumi’s broken marriage results in his five-year-old son trying to match him up with his primary school teacher, whom he thinks will make a wonderful replacement for a mother.
Genre: fluff, slight angst, f!reader x dad! Iwaizumi
A/N: There will be 2 or 3 parts of this oneshot! Depending on how long I feel like writing. Thanks for checking it out and stopping by! Let’s dive into some Iwa moments :,)
NEXT PART -->
---
“What’s your return policy on rings?”
The saleswoman smiles sympathetically behind the counter. That stupid sympathetic smile he’s been getting for weeks on end now. And it never stops; with his co-workers, with his family, his friends...
Iwaizumi’s sick of it. He’s sick of having to prove that he’s doing just fine, thank you very much. When in truth, his heart is constantly being torn apart and stomped upon as is people have nothing better to do than torture him in their free time.
“I’m sorry, but these rings have been brought more than three years ago, and our warrant only lasts for three years,” the saleswoman keeps on talking but it doesn’t matter, for Iwaizumi can already feel the anger slowly creep up through the back of his neck, can already feel the vibrating emotions clogging up his sense of judgement.
His fists clench at his sides upon impulse, the physical pain of his nails driving into his palms enough to remind him to stay cordial. It’s not the woman’s fault, the better part of him chants, it’s not her fault at all.
“Fine,” he manages to grovel out, barely, “thanks anyway.”
He all but storms out of the shop while shoving the rectangular box back in his pant pocket, and though it’s been more than four months since his ugly divorce with the woman he’d hoped to share the rest of his life with, the weight of their promise hangs heavy and hot upon his thigh.
The thing is, Iwaizumi is mad. He is seething. If one were to give him a bat, he’d probably destroy the entire town by himself. Not because she was the one that cheated, not because she was the one going behind his back numerous times a week to seek out her lover when he’d been basically driven mad between Hoisuke’s cries and the stress of call meetings scheduled back to back.
No, he’s angry. Because how the fuck could she do this to Hoisuke? How can she break the child’s heart like that, so ruthlessly, without even thinking twice about the consequences?
Because if there is a victim in all this, then it’s definitely Hoisuke. And not only that, Hoisuke understands that his mother has been acting strange, that she doesn’t return at regular times and that her hugs now smell of cigarette smoke with a bittertaste of alcohol.
Iwaizumi is so caught up in anger that he almost blunders past his battered Hyundai, red and chipping away at the corners. Still, this car holds so many memories, the good and the bad ones.
“Can’t you get a newer car? I thought your company could sponsor you,” the ghost of his wife’s voice echoes through his head, a blatant reminder of all the things she’d found wrong in his life.
“Why?” he’d tilted his head around to fix his gaze on her figure bending over the sink. The TV was playing in the background and he thanked the gods that the morning comics were taking up Hoisuke’s attention, enough to distract him from his parents’ quibbles.
“It’s just--so old and tacky.”
“It still works well, doesn’t it? Why change it now?”
She’d paused, hesitated slightly before blundering on, “It’s embarrassing. My colleagues keep asking if we're poor or something."
"Who cares what your colleagues think?"
Fuck her, Iwaizumi mentally swears as he turns on the ignition. Fuck her and all her needs for a better life. As if the life they had wasn't more than enough. Pulling out into the street to join the incoming traffic, he blinks away the sudden tears accumulating at the corner of his eyes and swears once more, this time aloud, glad that Hoisuke isn't in his presence when he gets in such a foul mood.
Iwaixumi may be angry. He may be filled with pent-up rage from the memory still attached to the day he'd discovered a used condom in their bathroom trash. But that doesn't mean it hurts any less.
That doesn't mean he does not still cry into his pillow over it every night.
----
"Please don't forget to do your homework for tomorrow! We'll correct them before moving on to the next chapter," you call out to your students as excited chatter fills the air. Students rise from their seats, some calling you bye and waving as they all file out of the classroom and you can't help the small smile lingering over your lips even though your feet are killing you.
Outside, parents have already lined up to collect their kids, the chatter and bustle of people ebbing away down the corridor as you let out a soft sigh.
"Miss?"
You jolt, not realizing that one of your students stands by the table wringing his hands, "what's wrong Hoisuke? Dad's not here yet?"
He shakes his head, watery eyes blinking up at you as he raises his thumb to his lips. You stand quickly and motion him to come close until he's within reach before your hand smoothes over the back of his head, "it's okay. He's probably stuck in traffic. I'll wait with you."
It's not surprising that parents get tardy once in a while and you're all too accustomed to those slight change in plans. Thankfully, you manage to distract the young boy with some coloured crayons and a piece of paper while you dial for his father's number.
It keeps ringing. No one picks up.
You try once more, one more time after that. But still, nothing. It shifts to voicemail. You decide it's better than nothing, "hi Iwaizumi-san. This is Y/N, Hoisuke's teacher. I was just wondering what time you would be picking up Hoisuke? Please call me as soon as possible. Thank you."
You end the call only to spot Hoisuke's eyes on you, intent and impatient for you to explain, "it's okay," you tell him with a smile, "he'll be here soon. Don't worry. Do you want to keep colouring some more?"
Hoisuke nods, to which your smile widens. It's those special moments, where your shyest students express themselves, that your chest warms with sympathy and affection. You've been there, you know how it feels like not to be heard, and you appreciate every interaction they offer you.
Being a primary school teacher is tough, especially since it wasn't in your original plans. But the satisfaction of bringing up some of the world's future leaders cancelled out all the late nights correcting tests and scrambled weekends trying to finish off as many worksheets as you possibly could for the coming week. You can’t complain, not when you have a decent salary that keeps bread on the table and a roof over your head.
A tug on your sleeve brings you back to Hoisuke looking up at you, a scribbled drawing of what seems to be of him and his dad. You feel yourself chuckling at how he's drawn both their hair in brown spikes, erratically extravagant and yet so close to reality.
"That's really good, Hoisuke!" You beam down at him, "what do you and your dad do on weekends?"
He shrugs shyly, head averted to the side so that there's no need for eye contact. And in the shyest voice he can muster up, he says:
"Daddy brings me...to see Mama," Hoisuke's words are barely above a mumble, "they live in different houses. They can't live together anymore."
Uneasiness squeeses in your stomach, followed by sympathy for this soft-hearted boy. You had overheard some of your colleagues giggling about Hoisuke's dad being attractive and single -- a combo that teachers adore -- but that doesn't mean that the weight of his words don't lay heavy on your own conscience.
"Do you miss your Mama a lot?" You ask him softly. Unconsciously, your hand finds a way to smooth over his head.
The boy doesn't pull away. Instead, he nods, "sometimes. But it is better this way. Daddy smiles more now. And there's no one to shout and make noise."
"Are you happy, Hoisuke? With your dad?"
He nods and to your amazement grins, "daddy is funny. He tells me not to swear but when he burns the food he always swears. And then he says to shush and tells me to close my ears. He also makes me pancakes every Saturday morning before I go see Mama."
Right on cue, a figure bursts through the open classroom door and both your heads snap to see a drenched, older version of Hoisuke who looks like he just finished running a marathon.
"I'm--" he wheezes, causing you to stand in alarm and concern, "I'm sorry I'm--so late--"
"Daddy, you forgot me again!" Comes Hoisuke's statement as you ask Iwaizumi if he's okay. He shakes off your worry with a flick of his hand and a shake of his head, "I'm fine. Sorry-- there's a nasty rain outside--"
"It's okay," you reassure him as Hoisuke practically barrels into his father and almosy knocks him off his feet.
"Sorry Hoisuke," you watch Iwaizumi's hardened features soften ever so slightly as he ruffles his son's hair. Then, looking back up at you as you bring over Hoisuke's backpack, he says, "thank you. For looking after him."
"It's no problem, honestly. We had fun didn't we?" You grin down at your student and are delighted to find Hoisuke grinning back up at you, albeit shyly, "I put his homework in his diary. He'll need to complete it for tomorrow so that he doesn't fall behind in class."
His father nods, "alright. Thanks."
"Daddy, your hair looks atrocious," Hoisuke says, tugging onto his shirt.
"Atrocious huh?" Iwazumi's eyebrow rise, "someone was listening in their English class today."
"Atrocious means that it looks bad. Daddy, your hair looks bad."
"Thanks buddy, I knew that. Now say bye to Miss Y/N."
"Bye bye, miss Y/N," Hoisuke says, wriggling his short arm through the air as you wave back with a giggle. His father nods at you in silent thanks, makes a move to walk out of the class, only to swivel back to you just as you're collecting your bag.
"Uhm," he clears his throat, causing you to jump slightly, "yes?" You blink back at him and try hard not to stare at the way his white shirt clings to his toned chest, translucent from the rain.
"Do you need a ride?"
-----
You've known Iwaizumi since high school. Having graduated just two years later than he did, his reputation had preceded him throughout the school halls even though you'd never actually had any face to face interaction with the said man. Iwaizumi doesn't know this of course and you are adamant about keeping it a secret. But that plan seems to be unraveling before your very eyes the moment your small talk turns towards your academic history.
"You're from Aoba Johsai?" His surprised glance doesn't escape your notice, especially since that's the most reaction you've gotten out of him.
"Yeah," your eyes stay glued to the row of cars crawling through the motorway, "I remember you went there too, right?"
"How'd you know?"
"You were Aoba's ace volleyball player. Everyone knew who you were."
His silence answers you and for a moment, you fear that you might have offended him. Not that it's something to be offended about.
Before you try to scratch your brain for some kind of response -- any response -- Hoisuke pipes up from the back seat, "Daddy was famous back when he was in high school. He hit the ball like kapow! And jumped so high he can touch the sky."
"Oh? Have you seen him on camera?" You turn slightly, a small smile dangling off your lips at how adorably amazed and excited Hoisuke seems to be.
"Yeah! His spikes are so awesome! It goes pow! And it zooms! Like a cannon ball!"
You burst out laughing, "yes, your father was amazing whenever he was on the court. Every girl in our class had a crush on him."
"What's a crush?"
"Hmm, you know when you really like someone. You like like them, you want to be together with them. Like, girlfriend and boyfriend."
"Oh," Hoisuke draws out, "did you really like daddy too?"
"Yeah I did."
"What?" Iwaizumi almost chokes on his own spit at the same time traffic eases and you're glad for the distraction, for you're certain there's a scattering of colour upon your cheeks.
"Do you really like him now?" Hoisuke persists, undoubtly untouched by the embarrassment taking over his father's features and you swear that more than ever, you want to laugh at how flustered Iwaizumi looks.
You decide to play nice though and instead turn to wink at your student, "that's a secret for me to keep."
You don't have to look twice to know that the man beside you is bursting into hot flames.
-----
"Did you really like Mama before you started living separately?"
Iwaizumi swears that he's never felt so uncomfortable in his life. Not when he's had to state that he was divorced, not when he had to sign divorce papers half drunk off his ass. Not even when he'd raged after his said ex-wife after finding a tie that wasn't his own in his laundry pile.
Now is probably a good definition of what uncomfortable means.
"You're not gonna let me off the hook are you?" He steals a glance at Hoisuke from over his shoulder while stirring the vegetable curry, "yes, I really liked your mother."
"Did she?"
The word 'yes' almost slips past his mouth. Except, he isn't sure whether that's the truth and decides to shoot back with, "have you finished your homework, Hoisuke? You know it's due tomorrow. Miss Y/N said so."
"Do you really like miss Y/N?"
"What?" Iwaizumi frowns, "well--no. Not like that."
"Why?" His son whines, "I really really like Miss Y/N. She's nice to me and she never shouts. And she bakes good cookies!"
"How'd you know that?" Iwaizumi leans over to taste a bit of the sauce. Not bad, he thinks and mentally pats himself on the back. A few weeks ago, he would've probably burnt the entire house down.
"Because she bakes them every month. Every time we finish a test."
"That's nice of her."
"Yes," there's a pause as the man fishes out a bowl in which to serve the curry, "daddy, what do you do when you really like someone? Do you marry them like you and Mama did?"
"Uh--yeah. Sure."
"Then does that mean I need to marry Miss Y/N if I really like her?"
"Yup."
"Daddy!"
Iwaizumi bursts out laughing. Turning off the stovetop and bringing the bowl over to the dining table, he reaches out to ruffle his son's hair with a grin, "you're the one who has a crush on miss Y/N."
"She's too old for me Daddy," grumbles Hoisuke while scooping out two rice bowls as the pair sit down for dinner, "but she'll be good for you."
"Not that simple, buddy," Iwaizumi says as he dumps two spoonfuls of curry into his son's bowl, before doing the same with his own, "there's a difference between like and love."
A frown falls over his son's face, so like his own that Iwaizumi can't help but chuckle, "what is the difference?"
"Well, when you really like someone, you might want to get to know them better. Or play with them andd shit--stuff like that. When you love someone, it's..." he hesitates, "it's different."
"Why?"
There goes that innocent question that punctures his chesy a little too deeply. The brown-haired man steadies his gaze upon the calendar fixed on the wall opposite him as he answers with:
"When you love someone, you want to live with them. You want to start a family with them. Their happiness," his brown orbs switch back to his son's focused attention, "their happiness is all that matters."
Maybe it's the fact that he's not used to speaking so truthfully about such things. Maybe it's just Hoisuke who suddenly realizes the layers hidden beneath his father's poker-faced exterior. But for a moment, neither of them speak, as if bewitched by a silencing spell if broken by the scraping of cutlery against porcelain.
"Did you love mama?"
Hoisuke's voice is small, fragile. So fragile that Iwaizumi pauses just as his spoon reaches his mouth, glancing over at his boy. His beautiful boy.
"Yeah."
Another short pause. "Did she love me?"
"Of course she did," Iwaizumi's face softens. To be honest, Hoisuke hadn't showed any kind of restraint during the entire divorce procedure, had merely accepted things as they had unfolded before his very eyes. But sometimes, Iwaizumi fears his son might be keeping more from him than he lets on.
He ressembles his mother a lot in that sense.
"Then," wet coffee-coloured eyes blink up at him, lips trembling with a hoarse whisper, "why'd she leave?"
Before his father can say anything, the young boy bursts into tears.
Iwaizumi rushes over, clasping Hoisuke in his embrace as the child buries his face into his neck and cries and cries and cries. His little heart beats like wild horses and with every sob echoing through hid body, Iwaizumi feels his own heart break over and over again. One of his hands rub comforting circles of Hoisuke's back, while the other smoothes over the back of his head as he murmurs soft nothings in hopes that it will calm down the young child.
"I want--" Hoisuke's voice is thick with tears, "I want Mama--"
"Shh, hey it's okay," Iwaizumi murmurs out, "s'alright kiddo. I got you."
Hoisuke falls asleep eventually, the soft sniffles dying out into even breaths as he slumps against his father’s shoulder, probably tired out from his earlier emotions. Iwaizumi takes this as his chance to tuck the boy into bed, glad that he’d listened to the small subconscious in his head telling him that Hoisuke would be falling asleep sooner rather than latter.
As he smoothes over his son’s hair, a part of him wonders how much Hoisuke is still silently hurting from his mother’s departure. He can’t imagine it; suddenly changing lives like you’ve merely changed your bed sheets and Iwaizumi had been so caught up in his own heartbreak, in his own bout of silent rage, that he’d forgotten that along the way, Hoisuke was also a victim to their endless fighting, the cold war that had broken his family apart.
He wishes he can take the pain away, ease it somehow. But it’s not that simple. The truth is, no one can actually predict how a heart gets broken, nor when it does. The only evidence are the repurcussions. And it’s only now that Iwaizumi gets to see it truly take its form.
Leaning over to press a soft kiss to Hoisuke’s forehead, Iwaizumi murmurs his silent goodnight before walking out and gently closing the bedroom door behind him.
He leans onto the hard wooden surface and rubs his eyes. It is only upon pulling them away that he takes notice of the family photograph hanging on the opposite wall, frozen smiles wrapped up in lies.
He really needs to take that down.

----
It’s raining, the streets were drenching with water and muck which you found yourself staring at as you sat in your car at the intersection.
You had left your job, more like you were fired for something you didn’t do but you hated your job, 100 and 10% despited it and everyone there- needless to say, you didn’t mind not being there anymore.
The shitty weather on top of the idea of having to find a new job was putting more than damper on your day. So here you were in the middle of the day driving to your best friend’s house. He doesn't like to admit that he’s your best friend but he is and you both knew that.
The driveway was empty and the house was dark, at least from what you could see. Hopping out of the car, you make your way to the front door, the rain drenching your clothing. The key to his house hanging from the bunch you held in your hand, you let yourself in.
“Anyone home?” shouting into the dark house, slipping off your shoes.
There was no answer, you assumed Eddie was at work and Chris was still at school which made sense considering it was 2:30 on a Friday afternoon.
A puddle of water trialed behind you on your way to the bathroom, stopping to get a towel from the cupboard. The wet clothes get stripped off and tossed into the tub, making a mental note to come back and put them in the dryer after you get something to wear.
The towel now wrapped around you, you find your way down the hallway and into Eddie’s bedroom. There was a basket of folded laundry on the bed, deciding that it’s probably better to get something from the basket than to tumble through his drawers.
Just as you go to drop the towel, you hear the front door open and then a woman’s voice.
“Shit shit shit” you mumble to yourself and look around the room frantically- there’s no way you could get dressed before the person gets to the room, you have no choice but you stay the way you are.
The footsteps approaching the room, a knock on the door before it opens, Carla sticks her head in the room and you let out a breath of relief.
“Jesus, it’s just you” sitting on the bed, you smile at her and she laughs softly.
“Who’d you think it was hun?”
“I thought Eddie had come home, with a woman. That would have been hard to explain- ya know, a woman in a towel in his bedroom while he’s not home.”
“Mhm hm,” Carla has one of her famous mischievous looks on her face. “Sure, because it’s normal for you to be half naked in his bedroom when he isn't home.” She laughs.
“Were you waiting for him?” she teased, your face twists and you groan.
“Carla! No, god. I had a shitty day and I wanted to hang out. It was raining cats and dogs when I got here and my clothes got wet.” you explain what happened and she gives you a hum, stepping back out and leaving you to change.
You can hear laughter coming from the bedroom down the hall, you make your way there. Chris sat on his bed, looking out his window while he was on the phone.
“Love you too dad, bye” the phone is set beside him on the bed, you knock on the door and Chris looks back, his face lighting up when he sees you.
“Hey kiddo” smiling at the boy who’s now making his way over to you, you step into the room and meet him halfway.
“Hi! What are you doing here?” he asks you, hugging you.
“Came by to see your dad but he wasn’t home. I’m better now because you’re free” looking down at him, Christopher laughs and holds your hand as the two of you walk down the hallway to the living room. Carla brings him a snack and joins the two of you in the living room, Christopher telling you both about his day at school.
----
Eddie runs to the front door from his truck, the rain had been pouring all day.
“I’m home!” he shouts, as he steps in only for Carla to shush him from the kitchen.
His face screws and he makes his way down the hallway to Christopher’s room but he wasn't in there. Carla sat in the kitchen reading her book, she smiles when he steps in the kitchen.
“Hey, where’s Chris ?” he asks, washing his hands and pulling a pot out of the cupboard.
“Shower,” shutting the book, she slips it into her bag. “You’re going ?” Eddie glances over his shoulder, pouting slightly. Carla always helps him with dinner and truthfully, she’s the better cook out of the two.
“I’ve got myself a hot date tonight” She tells him, giving him a smile before making her way to the front door.
Eddie follows her, “what? really? But who’s going to keep me company while Chris does his homework ?” his hand coming up to his chest as he sighs dramatically.
Carla’s hand meets his, patting his chest. “Chris is done with his work, he had help” nodding towards the couch, Eddie follows her gesture to see you sleep on the couch.
“When did- are those my clothes ?” his mouth hung in disbelief.
Why were you asleep on his couch in his clothes ? He wasn't even home, how the hell did you get in ?
“Mhm hm” Carla hums, a soft laugh slipping past her lips. “Have fun sugar, I'll be back in the morning. Tell lil man I said bye” She steps out, pulling the door shut behind her.
The pattering of feet pulled Eddie’s attention away from a sleeping you on the couch.
“Dad!” Chris’s smile lit up the room, Eddie found himself smiling at his son.
“Hey buddy” he kneeled to hug him, holding him close after a long day at work.
“How was work ?” Christopher asks his father as the two make their way to the kitchen.
“It was a fine, normal day of us saving the city” Eddie chuckled, smiling at his son who was sitting at the table now. “Hey bud?”
“Mhm hm ?”
“When did y/n get here?”
“I don’t know, she was here when me and Carla got home” he shrugs, turning his attention back to something Eddie had left out on the table.
Eddie is half way into the fridge and it was down to its bare bones. A carton of milk, two eggs left in a tray and a half used stick of butter - guess he had forgotten to go grocery shopping yesterday.
“How does pizza for dinner sound?” Eddie turns to Chris who’s nodding eagerly. Pizza was the way to that kid’s heart.
---
dinner was short, the boys talked about their day. Chris told his father all about his day at school and how they learned about the atmosphere and space in science class and Eddie told him about a resume they had today - the safe for work details of course, he always left out the gruesome parts.
“So Carla told me y/n helped with your homework ?”
“Yeah, I only had math work to do. It was easy”
Eddie hums, it was still relatively early and a Friday afternoon, he thought why not have a movie night.
“Here’s the plan for tonight, you tidy up your room real quick and then we can build a fort and have movie night. How does that sound ?”
“Like a plan!” he smiles at Eddie before getting up. Eddie sits at the table watching Chris make his way into the hallway and towards the bathroom.
The sound of a snore brought him back to reality, he remembered you were still on the couch asleep. He quietly got up and made his way over, crouching in front of the couch.
You looked at peace, which was strange to him because the two of you are always bickering or poking each other about something. The only times he had seen you smile was if someone made fun of him or if you were with Chris - he had never actually seen you relaxed.
“Take a picture and leave or I'm filing a restraining order” you mumble sleepily. Eddie laughed, you were always teasing him about his stare.
Eddie stands, lifting your legs and sitting before dropping them down onto his lap. “How did you get in my house? Did you let yourself in?”
“I used the key” rolling onto your jacket, you shift upwards slightly. The disapproval on Eddie’s face was very much visible.
“I gave you that key for emergencies!”
“It was an emergency!”
Eddie sighs, his hand rubbing the piece of bare skin showing from the rolled up pants. The room is quick, the sound of the rain pouring echoed through the house.
“What’s on your mind ? I can practically see the wrinkles forming on your face”
“Hey!” you nudged him with your foot while he laughed. “Nothing,” sitting up to face him properly. “I just had a shitty day and wanted to see my bes- my friend.”
A small smile appeared on his face. “Your what ?” “Shut up Eddie”
“No no, say it” he grabs your foot, his fingers reaching to the sole of your foot. Your eyes widen, shaking your head. “Don’t you dare.”
“Oh but I do” he smirks before tickling the bottom of your foot. You try to pull your foot away but you’re laughing and wiggling around on the couch so much that you end up rolling off but your foot is still on Eddie’s lap.
There you were lying diagonally off the couch with your feet on his lap. He shifts to the floor, now sitting beside you. The two of you have your backs up against the couch.
“Seriously, talk to me. What’s up ?”
“Just wanted some company. Work was shitty and I- I don’t know. I didn’t know where to go. There’s nothing waiting for me at my place, the weather’s kinda depressing so I didn’t want to go drinking because it would just make me sad” you chuckle, turning your head to face him.
“I got in the car and just drove and I ended up here. This is home, you know? ” you admit. Humming, he smiles.
“I’m glad you felt like you could come here.”
“Well I know you couldn’t kick me out. You love me and my puppy face too much” you pout playfully making his laugh before nudging you with his shoulder.
Eddie’s arm is now over your shoulder, pulling you into his side. “You’re welcomed here anytime.” he presses a kiss to the top of your head.
Tilting your head from his shoulder, you're now face to face with him. There had always been unspoken feelings between the two of you, everyone could see that - even the two of you.
He leans in, a hand cupping your cheek like it was chiseled to fit the curve of your structure perfectly.
The palm of your hand wraps around his wrist, leaning closer to him.
This was the moment you were waiting for.
“DAD!” Chris shouts, causing Eddie to pull away. Not that either of you minded but there does that moment.
“Yeah ?” His hand was still cupping your cheek. “Can we watch a movie now?”
“Of course, pick one out.” He moves his hand to give the remote to Chris, you cheek cold from the loss of touch.
The 3 of you settle into the couch, Christopher between the two of you. The boy settled on Space Jam though he had seen it a million times.
Eddie’s arm is stretched over the back of the couch. It was bent at an awkward position, his fingers barely grazing your cheek, letting you know that he’s right there.
The two of you shared stolen glances all night, watching each other more than the movie. Eventually Chris fell asleep between the two of you.
You felt safe, peaceful, home.
This felt like home.

Graveyard Siblings (3)
Some for revenge and some sibling bonding.
[Masterlist]
(Part 1)(Part 2)
-------
Adrien was next to be visited. Plagg woke him up from his sleep.
-------
“Kit, wake up. I want camembert.”
“Plagg, silence. You are not getting any cheese if you do that.”
“Sorry, Adrien but you are not my ‘master’ anymore.”
“Plagg? Why are you here? Where’s the ring?”
“The ring is as far away as possible and kept safely away. I am here because someone wants to talk to you.”
“Who?”
A cloaked, hooded figure stepped out of the shadows to his room.
“Kitty. My Chaton. Did you miss me?” A sweet, familiar but yet so terrifying voice came from the figure.
She pulled down the hood to reveal Ladybug with a wicked-looking black mask with white lenses.
“What am I talking about? You do miss me. Your Bugaboo. Too bad I don’t feel the same, Adrien.”
Lightning flashed and it started to rain. The mask was gone, revealing his dead classmate, Marinette with chilling red eyes. The pigtails grew longer and curved upwards, giving the illusion of her having horns. Twin blades flashed and she leaped towards him. (Damian gave them to her with some lessons in exchange for spending time with, babysitting, the kwamis.)
Adrien scrambled away from the bed in the nick of time. A sword impaling the spot where he just was.
“Plagg, help. Where is the ring? I need to transform.”
“Sorry, kitten. I am not telling you. Even if you did have the ring, it’s not going to be much help.”
“Kitty, stay still. Then, we can be together. Just like you wanted.”
Adrien continued to dodge.
“What do you mean?” He all but screamed at Plagg.
“Pigtails, here, is a vengeful spirit. She’s not going to stop until she is satisfied. How about asking her what she wants?”
“Ladybug, what do you want?”
“What I wanted was a partner I could rely on, someone I can trust with my life, someone who wouldn’t stab me in the back for his own selfish gain. I wanted a friend who would have my back and not tell me to keep quiet at the price of my mental health and my relationships with people I care about. WAS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK?!”
She managed to get a cut on his left cheek.
Soon, he was on the ground, bleeding out on the round.
“Tell Hawkmoth that he better watch out. Because-” lightning struck and Plagg and Ladybug had disappeared, “his downfall is coming.” Her voice echoed through his room.
Adrien laid bleeding until Natalie opened the door after hearing a crash from the room and came to check on him. As she called an ambulance for Adrien, she wondered if it wasn’t too late to ask for redemption and be spared from Ladybug’s wrath for her part in her murder.
Adrien had the word ‘TRAITOR’ carved into his back. Forever reminding him of his crimes.
--------
He wasn’t in school for a week after the incident. They all were told that Adrien had an accident while fencing.
Gabriel was a little panicking now.
He hired an exorcist, (John Constantine got a hefty amount and did a few flashy magic tricks to appease Gabriel but he didn’t lift the curse Maria put on the place. She is not someone to be on the bad side of and he thinks that he can’t lift it even if he wanted to.)
Emilie gets a little sus at Gabriel when he brought this strange man with a British accent into their home after their son got attacked in his own room with security tighter than Fort Knox.
She doesn’t buy that ‘accident’ bullshit that her husband, son and even Natalie tries to sell her. She thinks it is connected to what happened while she was in a coma.
-----
Adrien has a curse too.
(Credit to @raeuberprinzessin for giving me an idea)
He couldn’t act like the ‘Perfect Adrien’ in public anymore. Acting more like Chat Noir at first then, later a spoiled brat. His friends thought that he was finally rebelling against his father and encouraged it a lot.
Adrien started criticizing other people, strangers at first then to the people working on the photoshoots to his fans to his other school mates, people in his class and his friends. (The curse planted ideas into his head about what he should say and he said them all without thinking about the effect it has on other people)
People started avoiding him not liking his attitude and his comments about how they should behave and change something about them because he doesn’t like it that way and guilt-tripping them when he doesn’t get his way. Even Nino started to distance himself after he saw how Adrien talked to a fan.
The public thought it was a phase but as he got progressively worse, people started despising him. Adrien doesn’t realize this of course so far, happy that his father let him get away with ‘ruining the Agreste image.’ (Gabriel was worried about a potential vengeful ghost and making sure his wife didn't know about his stint as a supervillain. There was also the fact that the Afterlife made more sales than him again and managed to get on the cover of Vogue when he should have, dammit.) He was finally able to say what he wanted to without repercussions. Until he realized when Nino and everyone else cancelled for a hangout for the third time that week that he was slowly losing his friends.
He panics and tries to fix the situation. He didn’t want to be alone again.
He talks to Nino about it and to his horror, he couldn’t stop himself from saying many things that were a little hurtful. (Second part. The moment he realizes he is going to be alone. He is going to find out that yes, lies can hurt people. He is going to see it happen firsthand.)
Nino moved seats and told Adrien that their friendship was on hold until he apologized.
Soon, nearly every time his mouth opened, lies and insults about his friends or their embarrassing secrets came spilling out. Everyone hated him now and Mme. Bustier tried to give him a reprimand about his behaviour, which when he tried to defend himself, he found himself unable to speak.
He managed to explain to his father what caused his unpopularity by writing what happened to him. Unfortunately due to his poor behaviour before the second part of the curse was activated, his fan base was dwindling and people didn’t like him anymore so there was a hit on the Gabriel brand.
He no longer has to do modeling, clearing his schedule. But no one would spend time with him.
The best solution he could do with his predicament was to keep quiet and endure the loneliness and the glares of his classmates at school. Adrien was relegated to the back and nearly everyone avoided him. He was now a social pariah.
Even Lila avoided him because of her own curse which made Adrien turn into one of her previous victims. (She also didn’t ponder why Marinette rarely appears compared to the others.)
If Adrien felt a tiny bit remorseful or guilty for making Marinette keep quiet or betraying Ladybug, he can gain a little control over what he says.
The curse can be broken if he apologizes to Maria herself or to her grave.
------
The first few months, while Marinette adapted to living with the Waynes, Jason stayed over at Wayne Manor because having Maria living with him at his apartment wasn’t a good idea and he had no clue how to take care of a teenage girl.
On paper she is adopted by Bruce because Jason can’t. (Some CPS reasons.)
Making Jason a little more salty towards Bruce. “I found her first. I called dibs.”
Brought Maria to meet the other Outlaws and they adopted her too. “Hey, guys. She’s my sister first.”
Jason was the one to teach her how to shoot a gun because he was ‘the most capable’ of teaching her.
The first few months were a little tense with Marinette not fully trusting them and the same with the rest of the Batfam.
Jason warmed her up a bit to him by telling a little of why he took her here.
He was also the one to book them flight to Paris with Bruce’s credit card so she can tell her friends that she wasn’t dead in person.
They bonded more after stopping some nefarious plot in Paris while they were there. Let’s say Gentleman Ghost and something involving the catacombs in Paris. (I watched some Batman: Brave and the Bold for childhood nostalgia.)
Kwamis were animal-shaped and they were interesting creatures to be around. And very very curious.
There was a stressful day for Maria when all the Kwamis decided to play hide and seek. Damian somehow got roped into helping her as the only available person in the Manor and he will deny that he enjoyed it.
Damian is the little brother she always wanted and she is more tolerable compared to his brothers. There is also the fact that she trusts him with the kwamis and deep down, he feels super-honoured. (I just love older sister!Mari)
Tim and her being insomniac/coffee buddies. There has been many many interventions to stop this.
I get that Marinette is this selfless person and loves making people happy but she has siblings now and them eating the stuff she made for herself to enjoy, should get on her nerves after a while.
She makes a box with booby-traps in which she puts in her cookies and food.
There are many different layers of traps because this is the Batfam and each of them is non-lethal and more ridiculous.
Okay, I once read a fic about Marinette making a bear-trap style box to hide the Miracle Box so this box is also like that but kept for food. (Traps and Sneaks by quicksilversquared)
Someone (I vote a hungry Dick or Jason, maybe a suspicious Bruce) made a mistake of putting their hand into the box and the first trap activated.
Screams filled the house.
Everyone came down including Marinette.
Bruce asked, “Who did this?”
“It was me.”
“Why?”
“They kept eating the cookies.”
“There are other ways to stop them from doing that you know like a ‘Do Not Touch’ sign not a death trap box.”
“They are non-lethal.”
Bruce locked it away but Tim later stole it to tweak it and store his coffee. ------ (Part 4)
