Abigail is in her bedroom and she starts to remember her past lover. She misses him dearly and she will do anything to see him again.

Flashback;

You have been traveling for long a time since you left Japan. You settle down in a town called Riverdale while walking through town a lot of people start to stare at you. You are still dressed like a samurai and you have your swords with you. Then you stopped and you saw a beautiful woman walking out of a store. You can't look away then she notices you.

“You must be new here, we've never seen your kind here. My name is Beatrice Cooper and what is your name?” Beatrice said.

“My name is Y/n. And I am a samurai from Japan” You said.

“Oh, how interesting I've never been to Japan. Welcome to Riverdale, but you can't carry your swords around town” Beatrice said.

“Why not?” You asked.

“Beatrice, leave him alone. He had a long trip and he just got into town” Abigail said.

“I just wanted to get to know him,” Beatrice said.

Beatrice walks away.

“My name is Abigail Blossom. There is a hotel nearby” Abigail” said.

“My name is Y/n,” You said.

Abigail smiled at you and you just met her but you loved her smile. She walked away and you head somewhere to get something to eat.

Abigail went to the lake to be alone and relax. She watches you train with your sword then she steps on a stick and it breaks, you stop and turn around.

“Sorry. I just saw you use your sword” Abigail said.

“I was training,” You said.

She walked closer to you and you put your sword away.

“I never used a sword before, I always read it in books” Abigail said.

“I can show you,” You said.

You take out your sword, then you gently grab her hand and she feels a spark. You moved closer and showed her how to hold the sword. You tell her how to swing it then you move away and she tries to hit the tree. She started to smile

“Wow, I like this, Y/n,” Abigail said.

“You have a beautiful smile,” You said.

She blushed and she gave you back the sword.

“Thank you” Abigail smiled.

“Your husband must be a lucky man,” You said.

“I don't have a husband,” Abigail said.

She didn't want to scare you away that she was married before.

“Oh. I don't have a wife. I have been traveling and exploring what is there besides Japan” You said.

“I never left this town. I envy you, Y/n” Abigail said.

You and Abigail stared into each other’s eyes. You don't know her very well but yet you are smitten by her.

“I have to go. I have to teach a class, maybe you should come by” Abigail said.

“I will. How do I find you?” You said.

“It's a building with a bell and you will see kids around,” Abigail said.

You gently grabbed her hand and kissed it, then she blushed. You watched her walk away and Abigail couldn't stop smiling and she liked how you kissed her hand. You want to make her yours and you hope she feels the same.

Later, you did go into town and look for the school. People are still staring at you and how you dress. You see Abigail talking to two men and she doesn't seem happy, then you walk towards them.

“Is everything okay?” You asked.

“We are done here. Abigail, don't think with your emotions and sell the land to me everything will work out for both of us” Jedediah said.

“Get off my property now” Abigail demanded.

“This isn't over,” Jedediah said.

“She said leave now,” You said.

He did leave and you watch them leave. You follow her inside the school and you start to look around.

“If they bother you again, I will stop them,” You said.

“Thank you. I was hoping you would come today” Abigail said.

“I wanted to see you. What do you teach?” You said.

“I teach, young women how to read and write,” Abigail said.

“I didn't go to school. I had to help my family work so we could buy food” You said.

“Oh. If you want I can show you how to write your name” Abigail said.

She grabbed a chalk and she writes your name on the board. She explained how each letter is pronounced then she grabbed your hand, and gently showed you how to write your name. You like her touch and you don't want her to let go of your hand. You and Abigail started to smile at each other. You do struggle to write your name but she encourages you to keep trying.

The past few days… you keep going to see Abigail at the school. You did learn how to spell your name and she likes being around you. Sometimes, you and Abigail would spend time at the lake, and she would ask questions about your past. Abigail is holding your hand gently and she is teaching you, how to write your name on paper. You and Abigail are sitting very close to each other, she slowly leans in then you kiss her on the lips. She puts her hands on your face and she starts to kiss you back.

“I love you,” You said.

“Even if I did something bad in my past?” Abigail asked.

“It's in the past. You have been nothing but kind to me, and you took your time to show me how to spell my own name. You are different, Abigail. I will stay in Riverdale for you” You said.

She kissed you again, and she stared into your eyes. You kiss her again then you feel her hand on your cheek.

“I don't want you to leave,” Abigail said.

“I will do anything for you,” You said.

Since that kiss, you and Abigail started to spend more time together. You taught her how to use chopsticks when eating. She is very affectionate with you and she makes you feel loved. When you and Abigail go into town, she will hold your hand, and people will stare but you and Abigail don't care about other’s people opinions. She only cares about your opinion and you feel the same.

She told you about the curse because of Fen. You kiss Abigail on the lips

“I won't leave your side, Abigail,” You said.

“I don't want you to get hurt,” Abigail said.

“Abigail, as a samurai I promised you that I won't leave your side and I will do anything to protect you. I can't break my word as a samurai and if I do I will become a disgrace to my culture and I would have to give up being a samurai” You said.

“I love you, Y/n,” Abigail said.

“I love you, Abigail,” You said.

You kiss her then you say those three words again.

She goes downstairs and you stay up upstairs. You start her loud noises then she screams your name.

“Y/n!” Abigail screamed.

You run towards the stairs then you see Jedediah and a mob, taking the love of your life away. You run to get your sword, and they take her to the middle of town. They start to tie her up then they start to place the woods around her.

“Abigail Blossom, you are here because you are a witch and you will be burned alive,” Jedediah said.

“This your way to take my property from me because I wouldn't sell to a useless man like you!” Abigail yelled.

“You are a witch and you deserve to die. We won't let someone who worships satan live around us” Beatrice said.

You killed two random guys to get Abigail. Jedediah tried to stop you but, you punched him in the face and then pushed him onto the ground. You used your sword to stab him in the stomach. Then you run towards Abigail before the fire starts to get bigger.

“I will save you, Abigail,” You said.

“Y/n, save yourself” Abigail pleads.

“No! I won't leave you” You said.

You start to cut the rope but someone shot you in the back. You didn't cut the rope in time and you started to cough up blood. She starts to cry but you keep trying to cut the rope, but you are bleeding out fast.

“Y/n, I will always love you until the next life. We will see each other again” Abigail cried.

“No matter how long it takes, I will always wait for you, my love. Abigail…” You said.

You clasped and Abigail cried more and the fire got bigger.

“Archibald Andrews, Jedediah Jones, and Beatrice Cooper. I repudiate you with my dying breath. And in Satan's name, I curse you. Burn me, but you will never escape my wrath, nor Satan's. The unchained elements of the power of darkness are lying in ambush. Beware. My revenge will strike down you and your accursed houses. And I will bathe in the blood of your sons and daughters. Immortal, I shall return, again and again, to torment and destroy you” Abigail said.

well imo you can work with different theories so like

they dont remember these things as things they lived themselves but they remember them as things tabitha showed them the first time they saw the riverdale memories (so like if they'd watched themselves go through these things in tv but not as if they happened irl for them)

goodbye riverdale is back to jughead's narration and jughead is unreliable he's just making shit up (this also goes with the theory that what jughead showed betty was not real but was a fabrication he made up for her as her dying wish was to relive those days with everyone as they were + the fake reality had plot holes because to be fair jughead was like 86 when he died he cant keep track of who remembers the serial killer genes and who doesn't he's busy)

narrator jughead seems to be in control of this episode more than he was before (we see him corporeally and there's 2 jugheads in the end) so the characters' lives have been rewritten to fit the narrative jughead wanted to tell so they remember because he does too and the story belongs to him and not to them (to me jughead is always afraid of abandonment and change so he keeps his stories ones where his friends don't leave or grow + he has been shown to find it hard to come up with anything other than stories about his friends in riverdale in s5 and as bunker/god jughead). for me this also fits with the idea of the characters and angel tabitha trying to break free and narrator/god jughead(s) not allowing it -> town won

they loved these memories they love cults and killing and corpses and gay juvie. the bad memories were like archie not getting his high school diploma or something

from a doylist pov (boring) this meant nothing about the story and was just an homage to their most iconic moments in the show for the audience and the crew. you could twist this a bit to be meta and make something up about the characters behaving as characters and talking willingly to an audience because they exist only in our eyes if you wanted

which are all fun ideas to consider and theyre not mutually exclusive (like it could be jughead taking over the narrative but it could be in a world he makes up just for betty so all the other characters are in the real sweet hereafter but betty went to purgatory pop's because she does remember it all and this prevented her from being able to leave it behind. also archie for sure would remember some of gay juvie he loved the gay parts of gay juvie he told me. and fangs probably had god times at the cult i mean he dated human kevin maybe a love for cults is what they had in common)

to me it stood out as a moment where i was like oh jughead is lying to us for sure. awesome. one last jughead lying to us and trapping us in the cycle forever for the road yippee

Kate Sharma was really a 26y/o woman fighting her 17 year old sister for a yt man! can u say biggest loser in tv history! I’m just sad for Simone Ashley for having worst role in a show where female characters are so complex huge in personality big part of the show and her role as Kate wasnt/isn’t like you can see when she disappears no one nobody noticed and it makes zero difference in the show as whole like even with Cressida disappearing would’ve made more of difference and what happened kinda feeling and that’s sad but Kate deserves nothing so I’m regrade I’m happy bc it’s what Kate deserves!

ok so I have watched Riverdale and I have Thoughts about the bones of a gossip girl Riverdale AU but not necessarily about the plot. (GG was one of the first things to premiere after the rebrand from the WB (beat only by a show that lasted 8 episodes) and Riverdale is the last thing to go before it becomes a more "adult oriented" channel so it's fascinating to compare the 2)

Riverdale has a reputation for being "oh crazy weird show!!" (earned) but like... despite the escalating drama, the characters aren't really allowed to grow or change (or be fleshed out at all) they stay more or less the same one dimensional stereotypes for seasons 1-6 (season 7 is an alternate timeline it's a whole thing.) like I genuinely cannot place the plot of each season in order bc the characters aren't allowed to be affected by their experiences

(which is also exemplified by having them stay in high school forever, as opposed to the GG route of having them ignore their educations and pretend to be adults)

(I could go on a tangent here about how TV has gotten more serialized as technology develops. like early TV you watched when you could and things went into syndication so you had to be able to watch any episode out of context. but with streaming everything is binged. so stories can take multiple episodes and characters can change)

but GG and Riverdale arent streaming shows so the characters stay perpetually stuck in these cycles of Big Stories that Take Time but characters don't grow

we could also talk about narration and the story within the story. bc Riverdale is presented as a book that jughead is writing about his friends and gossip girl is being told to us by Dan (who also ends up writing a book about his friends.) the dark underbelly if Riverdale is the focus of the show vs the UES being more and more idealized as the show goes on

BUT!! I do also have plot thoughts!!!!

starting with the obvious. Riverdale stole the Derena/Rufly/Scott Rosson thing! but they took it a step further by having both couples dating, living in the same house, and having the love child move in! (then they revealed the guy who moved in wasn't their son at all but an imposter (and a serial killer! don't worry he marries the real illegitimate son!) Gossip Girl should've done this

Blair would start a cult predicated on her being the reincarnation of Audrey Hepburn. Serena (the most cult susceptible) would be a full fledged believer and a recruiter until she and Blair had that same fight about attention they always do then Serena would team up with recent-cult-escapee Jenny to take her down

Chuck would get involved with Carter Baizen's dog fighting ring for 2 episodes, but stop when he gets yelled at by his mom's ghost while high on psychedelics he got from Nate's drug dealer. a season later Chuck would do a seance and have the ghosts of his parents possess Jenny and Eric and force them to get married in some convoluted scheme to tax insurance fraud. they would stay possessed until Jonathan (upset Eric dumped him over text) showed up at the penthouse and was like "this is clearly not jenny and Eric" but nobody believes him so he has to exorcise them himself with a song (Riverdale would stop episodes for 3 minutes at a time so characters could sing, so be glad this song moves the plot forward)

Vanessa, while making a documentary, stumbles upon a society of mole men who hold her hostage bc she knows their secret. they let her send Dan a letter and she uses a secret code they made as kids to tell him where she is. he goes to rescue her but in the time it took she became queen of the mole people and now needs to be convinced to come home (again through song)

Nate is descended from serial killer HH Holmes. he Googles if that can be genetic and that's how we learn about the serial killer gene. he's relieved he doesn't have it but he makes all his friends do the DNA test and falls into a guilt spiral when it turns out that Serena does (she doesn't really care)

Dan, doing research for his book, finds out Lily had a girlfriend in highschool that she lost touch with, and reaches out to her. said girlfriend initially refuses to appear but changes her mind and arrives the night before the rufly wedding and tells drunkenly Nate the story of the body she and Lily hid one night. Nate (in the middle of his guilt spiral) tells Serena this story in an effort to get her to see the the effects of the serial killer gene

Rufus spends the entire show making waffles and getting divorced

Today myself and some of the cast are playing a game of truth or dare for teen Vogue. I’m sat on the floor in between KJ and Casey while the 2 jars of truths and dares are in front of me

“Hey we’re the cast of Riverdale and today we’re playing truth or dare with Teen Vogue” Madelaine starts

“Who’s going to go first?” Camila asks

“I’ll go” Casey shrugs

“Ok truth or dare?” I ask

“Dare”

“We’re not going to have any truths” Ashleigh laughs as I pick out a dare

“No it will be ‘what’s the next plot of Riverdale’ Lili laughs

“Ok yell the first word that comes to mind right now” I tell Casey

“Green”

“Why green?” I laugh. Casey shrugs

“I’ll do Mads. Truth or dare?”Ash asks

“I’ll do dare”

“Impersonate the person to your left” Mads then copies everything Lili does

“Ok cami truth or dare?” Mads looks at Cami

“Erm dare”

“Write a tweet only using your elbows” cami manages to do this perfectly. KJ chooses dare. He has to do an impression of someone until we figure out who it is. KJ pouts and sighs

“We’ve got no chocolate” he sighs again making me laugh. Last night I was at KJs place and I wanted to binge on chocolate, but he had none “I want some chocolate. KJ can you get some? I just want chocolate” he pouts again

“That’s YN 100%” Cami laughs

“Oh definitely. Your obsessed with chocolate” Casey laughs

“Whose next?”

“Me” I reply to Mads

“YN. Truth or dare?” she asks

“Oooo” everyone says looking at me. Mads picks out a truth and reads

“What’s the most embarrassing thing you ever did on a date?” I already start laughing thinking back to mine and KJs first date. As the fans already know that KJ and I are dating I decide to speak about that

“KJ and I went to the cinema for our first date. I drank all of my drink so KJ offered me his, but when I picked it up, the lid fell off and went all down the both of us”

“YN truth or dare?” Ash asks me

“Truth”

“Who’s the last person you text and what did it say?”

“Oh no” Mads laughs nervously. I pull my phone out of my jeans pocket at have a look. Immediately bursting out in laughter

“It’s to KJ. Ok so he said ‘I’m at the store now. What do you want?’ So I replied ‘what have they got?’ He says ‘twix, Milky Way, hersheys cookies and cream, lion’ and basically just list off more chocolate”

“What did you tell him?” Casey asks

“Yes”

“I bought 1 of every chocolate bar”

“Your a good boyfriend aren’t you” Ash says.

We wrap up the video before leaving the building where we did the truth or dare game. KJ and I head back to our hotel room where I get to eat a crap ton of chocolate while binge watching friends.

Okay I thought of something to ramble about and it’s the utterly bizarre and confusing relationship the CW show Riverdale has to chronological time. Apologies in advance for how long this rant will be.

Disclaimer: it’s been several years since I’ve watched Riverdale, and I never actually finished the show. This is all based on my memories. Also, I’m pretty sure the seasons I never got around to get EVEN weirder with their timelines.

So, season 1 makes the setting of Riverdale anachronistic as an obviously deliberate stylistic choice. The characters all have computers and cell phones, but they’ve also got rotary landlines, and the cars all look like they’re from the 50s, and the costumes tend to be vaguely vintage-inspired. Honestly I always found this element kind of fun - it’s a unique-ish style, and it pays visual homage to the era the original comics were set. (Side ramble: season 1 is both the most normal the show ever was and also the closest it ever got to being “good” in a traditional sense. Season 1 was a reasonably competent teen drama/murder mystery with an interesting aesthetic - it wasn’t anything groundbreaking, but it wasn’t terrible. And then it almost immediately went off the rails in ways that are wildly entertaining but a lot harder to take seriously. Post-season-1 Riverdale is, imo, the peak of “makes no damn sense, compels me though” tv)

And then in season 2(?), there’s an awkward cross-promotional thing where a bunch of characters go to the movies to see the 2018 film Love, Simon, and talk about how great Love, Simon is, and shuts generally urge the viewers to please go see Love, Simon - now in theaters. And it’s like. Oh. So it is set in the modern day, then? This is just a modern day town where everyone drives cars from the 50s?

And from then on it’s kind of hard to tell if the writers are trying to set it in a nebulous anachronistic dreamscape like in season one, or if it’s concretely set in the modern day - they kind of go back and forth.

And then. There’s the time skip. I can’t remember what season it is, but eventually, the writers announce that after the characters graduate from high school, there’s going to be a seven-year time skip, and the rest of the season will pick back up with the characters as adults. This seems like an idea that will accomplish a lot: it will allow the show to stop pretending that these clearly-in-their-20s-and-30s actors are fresh out of high school, it will allow the characters to take different paths after high school and then just pick up the story when they’re all back in Riverdale, and also, it will explain away why none of these characters are wearing masks or social distancing or at all acknowledging the global pandemic that is currently happening. Win-win. Makes sense. But then.

The characters are all about to graduate, and Archie is trying to decide what he wants to do after high school - does he want to go to college, or does he want to join the army? And right before graduation, he’s in the high school, and he sees a photo of a previous graduating class of Riverdale High posing in their uniforms before they go off to fight in what is very clearly WWII. And Archie hallucinates some soldiers in WWII uniforms during graduation, and that makes him decide to join the army. So WWII happened in the past. Makes sense so far.

And then the time skip picks up with Archie getting out of the army, and in all the flashbacks, it is very clear that he just fought in WWI. There’s trenches, and WWI-style uniforms, and Archie has shell shock (which obviously can and does happen in any war, but the way it’s framed in this feels very WWI-coded. I don’t know how to explain it, but it is.) So WWI is the present now?

And Betty’s post-time skip storyline is *just* Silence of the Lambs. Like she’s training to be an FBI agent and hunting down a serial killer and there’s a lot of VERY on the nose references. So the costuming and set design of her storyline is super 1970s, but then she meets up with Archie the WWI vet?

And THEN, in Veronica’s storyline there’s a scene where she’s arguing with her dad about his sexism and she says something like, “It’s 2021, dad, women aren’t property anymore,” and it’s like. ??? You just skipped seven years into the future?? Shouldn’t it be 2028? Was the show secretly a period piece set, very specifically, seven years in the past the whole time?? If it’s 2021 why aren’t any of the characters acknowledging covid? Was Love, Simon released seven years earlier in this universe?

And then Jughead gets kidnapped by Mothman.

(also something about dean being so hard up for affection and connection that he falls for her in said 2 seconds) also reviewing mentally that sam was with jess for a year and a half and was going to propose when he was 22. but also, was he ever gonna tell her the truth?

i have mentioned how often times kissing and sex scenes in media weird me out, occasionally they don't (see tags on my jennifer's body post the other day) but oof, this one does. and the more i'm emotionally connected to a character, the more likely and more intensely it tends to weird me out lol (but reading fic about them doing the same thing, no problem. maybe because i can't visualize so seeing it with my eyeballs and the awkwardness that is choreographed sex scenes is just like. Honestly, most shows are. Like I think of PLL were they changed the whole A reveal just because fans guessed who it was, and they didn't like that, so everything just didn't make sense(and if you read the books it made even less sense). It either goes downhill or gets so confusing people can't keep up, like I didn't even bother with Riverdale since everyone I know mostly dropped the show since it was too confusing. I feel like too, some companies are like oh people like this, and keep making more since it's a cash cow, which you can really tell. Like soap operas and all, like General Hospital is going onto season 62, there are 15,511 episodes, you can not tell me that we needed that many. Also The Vampire Diaries comes to mind, since the last two seasons didn't even feel like Vampire Diaries, they felt like they should be some spinoff show. Yet, sometimes shows do the opposite and it's surprising. Like I think of The 100, they had like season 1 and 2 were good, season 3 sucked, but they got back on it and season 4 to 7 were good, except the finale.

Season 3 is the best, but it does get a bit confusing with the later seasons, especially when basically everyone leaves. I honestly would have loved to know what was initially planned, since it probably would have been way better than what we got. Yet, even though it goes downhill, it's not the worse show, since I know some shows basically become unwatchable due to decline.

dont get me start on pll , I will never forgive them for making that show that long simply because of that , because you could tell after they def were making things up as they went along. and i couldn't even remember vd past s3 and i only watched up to s2 of legacies.

well it TURNS OUT that there's a lot of overlap in Supercorp shippers and Catradora shippers, for some reason. can't imagine why! [puts a blanket over my venn diagram's cage]

so i went a little insane after she-ra came out (you remember) and read about 6k fics, just scrolling through the tag with some filters on & clicking on anything that looked interesting. it was a very interesting time in our lives. a lot of me going "huh? whah?" in call. birth of the scorpia disclaimer.

but eventually i ran out of she-ra fics. and i like... i couldn't stop, you know? and it turns out that some of the best she-ra authors have written a lot of supergirl fics. so it kept coming up when i was on author-specific binges. and i got curious! i'm a curious guy!

and then it turns out they're really cute >:( they're adorable, damn it.

ik i'm never gonna be able to drag you into this hole with me, since you already have a designated CW trainwreck, but if you're ever feeling bored the first one i ever read was really fucking funny and requires zero knowledge of canon. i didn't know alex's pronouns until halfway through bc i'd never heard of her (literally supergirl's sister). initially i clicked on it bc "superhero pretends to date her civilian identity" sounded hysterical but like... kara is so sweet, and so socially inept. and lena is a human disaster who just wants to help. and they both have crippling abandonment issues and no chill whatsoever

What are your favorite things about the ship?

i like that they appreciate each other. the version of them that i've constructed piecemeal from other people's opinions is such that like... they've both been pretty miserable, right? lena watched her mom die when she was like 4 years old and then got adopted by the luthors, kara watched her planet explode & pawned off by clark (who was like 30 years older than he was supposed to be bc of DC bullshit) on some human family and had to pretend to be normal for a decade or so.

and they both hide that pretty well, kara with kindness and lena with unapproachable businesswoman...ness... but they're both immediately fascinated by each other. and they're both sort of genuine with each other, even when they're in 'nice but bumbling civilian' or 'ruthless luthor' mode. so where it gets interesting for me is those moments they reach a mutual understanding of something, or where they trust each other in spite of Every Other Thing.

in like their first meeting lena says she's just a woman trying to make a name for herself outside of her family & asks if they can understand and kara is like "🥺 yeah..." and like they were just kind of fucked from there. sigh. you don't know how good you have it with riverdale polycule man. fuckin CW.

Riverdale 7x3 - Sex Education (Spoilers)

Well, unlike the last episode, this one was not enjoyable...unless the goal was some sort of meta shit to show how awkward sex is between teenagers by having the episode seem to be written by someone with no basic knowledge of sex.  And honestly?  If I was forced to watch this or they key party episode again, it's key party no question. 

 So everybody's on a sex kick and it's just cringe.  Betty has urges and Kevin doesn't (not towards her).  Clay comes out to Kevin. Veronica is still after Archie.  Julien is still after Veronica (and I have a feeling that his part might have been created because Reggie isn't here.  His lines towards Veronica really sound like Reggie).  Julien convinces Archie to date Cheryl to get him out of the way and because Penelope asked him to (Penelope is starting to realize Cheryl's urges).  Toni is playing the long game when it comes to Cheryl.  Jughead is comic Jughead, who ends up at the party in order to make the system think he's less strange.  Oh, and Archie and Cheryl may have ended up having sex (I question if they really went that far).

But let's talk about a few of the interesting parts.  Ethel says her parents were killed by someone dressed as a milkman; which happens to be similar to a story that was written in the comics that she and Jughead read.  Also, Ethel (who is staying at the Coopers) asks Jughead to break into her home and steal some drawings that she made.  Like the one of a girl that looks like her feeding two bodies that look like her parents into a meat grinder (are we sure she didn't kill them?).  Jughead gets the drawing, but someone sees him and tells Keller.  Keller questions Jughead as he's strange, like Ethel (this is why Jughead ends up at the party).  I am curious about how the comics are going to connect and really hope they focus on this soon.  

There are a couple of things that happen at the party that are interesting.  The first thing happens when they're playing a kissing game.  Jughead has to kiss Betty and it seems to be implied that they don't really know each other well outside of school.  And there's a joke made that "this will go well."  But when they kiss,  there's a music que and Jughead has a visible reaction.  Perhaps this jarred something in the subconscious?

But then a few moments later, when everyone pairs off, Veronica calls Jughead Holden Caulfield; which again he reacts too.  Mostly, he wonders why she called him that but...it is interesting to see the callbacks and the reaction.  Also, this is a good scene between Jughead and Veronica and it's too bad we didn't see more like this throughout the series.

Anyway, at the end of the episode, Ethel and Jughead are called into the principal's office.  Keller is there.  He tells Jughead that he searched Jughead's place and found the drawings.  And that's were the episode ends.I'm hoping next week for more mystery and less teen drama but...oh, look Archie and Cheryl are engaged.  Sigh.

I'm compel to tell things that I like, dislike and mixed about Monster High live action movie *also spoilers ahead*

Things that I like:

Frankie being non-binary and played by actor Ceci Balagot

Monster High setting looks kinda nice

Friendship between Frankie and Clawdeen. Its makes sense both being new students. Clawdeen never been in monster world before and Frankie being literally 15 days old. Everything is new for them.

Draculaura practices witchcraft (odd decision but its kinda cool)

Its small insignificant detail but I like that Dracula's painted nails. We need more boys with painted nails

Oh They did great job in the music and songs.

Things that I dislike:

Aside Clawdeen new look. I didn't like the whole half-human half-werewolf plot. I get it that in previous MH generations were creatures doesn't have fully human or beast mode (except MH G2). Even Garret thinks they took Cerise (from EAH) and Jackson (MH) backstory and put it on Clawdeen

They never properly explain what exactly Clawdeen's mother deal is. Is fearleader captain?, top A student? Prom Queen? What?

I don't like Deuce clothing. Everytime that I seen him its reminders me Jughead (Riverdale) with glasses

The fact that Cleo doesn't have her mummy bandages. Is so easy to mistake her for human

Lagoona, Abbey, Heath and Ghoulia didn't contribute too much in the movie.

Even Mr. Komos doesn't get much screentime. Despite he's main villain. What exactly is his plan anyway: Wait until Clawdeen and her friends figure out how to open his dad's lair. He thought Clawdeen is the choosen one considering she going to make report of Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde

Guess its budget thing that we don't get to see Lagoona (waterbending) , Abbey (ice bending) and Heath (fire bending) fight against Komos.

Speaking budget: Komos final form is ridiculous. I guess animate bull head is expensive

I wish Clawdeen used Cleo's mirror pocket instead cellphone

I'm little annoyed how quickly that Dracula's accepting that his daughter is practicing witchcraft. What the whole vampires vs witches thing (Well you have to watch MH sequel to answer your questions)

Things that I mixed:

Deuce telling Clawdeen about Cleo's mummy issues. Its BIG oof for G1 fans knows Cleo's backstory

Cleo and Deuce breakup. I didn't understand why they break up? Its because Deuce wants to be different? I don't get it

Its just me but is weird that Dracula, Mr Hyde and Clawdeen's mom went High School together.

Either Monster World has different passage of time from Human World or Probably Dracula and Hyde are descendants from real Dracula and Mr Hyde

And that's pretty much it. Overall in my opinion the movie is not bad but could be 10x better with right cast, good writing, special effects and costumes

molly ringwald is kind of chewing her dialogue a bit good for her she really called her son simple (affectionate) 

maedchen amick is also...kind of terrifying in this episode. i support the older riverdale cast just doing whatever the hell they want at this point 

....is the show. implying that hal cooper was also gay in the way kevin is gay. or am i reading too much into that dialogue. anyways, we don’t have time to get into this. 

is ethel still in a cult in this universe or did everyone get a blank slate? perhaps she’s just still creepy 

betty clearly on her way to ask archie to the sock hop now that veronica is no longer taking him only to be stopped by kevin to give her this PIN so that they can GO STEADY genuinely makes me kind of sad like there is no way for this to end well. pinning someone won’t fix your problems kids!

ethel muggs didn’t show up for the detention she got for drawing her illustrations for jughead’s story and hurray! they got the job! take back ownership of your work kids

I watched a few seasons of it a few years after it initially came out, then immediately forgot everything about it, like this was way back in 2019 or 2020, long before I even got into the archie comics and other various shows and started this whole thing of watching and reading every single archie comics and adaptation I can possibly find.

(Oh boy this is going to be a long one huh.)

And one consistent thing I've found in my journey is that archie comics, adaptations, and spinoffs, is that it's a mixed bag of quality. And theres always so much going on in them all the time. You've got some good ones, some bad ones, some in between, and the really strange ones.

And boy howdy has there been some strange ones. The 19 issue 70s spire christian archie comics. There was a 2 part collaboration with Barack Obama and Sara Palin in 2010 for some reason. A sharknado crossover in 2015. A live action Archie's tv pilot in 1964 that never really went anywhere for good reason. Many more low budget early 90s live action films. The controversial end to the life with archie 2010 series, wherein we follow parallel universes where archie marries veronica and archie marries betty, and both have the exact same ending: archie gets shot and dies.

Its wild. WILD.

And riverdale as a show fits into that sort of nonsense... surprisingly well tbh. Yes, there things I dislike about the show diverging from the comics and it taking itself way to seriously, but I cannot deny the fact that riverdale does fit with just how bonkers the rest of the archie comics and shows get, no matter how much it differs from those comics and shows.

TDLR (I go into more depth as of why under the cut) riverdale is a fascinating archie adaptation and I need to watch it soon. adaptations that are different than the source material can still hold value. There has never been an entirely accurate archie adaptation because even the comics themselves are inconsistent with each other. But the one thing every single archie comics, show, movie, adaptation has in common is that they're always always just kind of dumb and ridiculous. Can't be an archie adaptation without that. And I'm on a quest to watch and read every adaptation so I kind of am going to watch riverdale regardless.

And I'm not entirely sure of my opinion on the comics is anything more than neutral at best really.

I havent read enough of the old ones to form an opinion on them yet. I cant say I really like all the comics, some sure but. Like the real early stuff, from the 40s and 50s, can be sort of hard to read. As always, the early Archie's do not stand up to the test of time it seems. And some really weird choices made in the 70s. The sabrina the teenage witch and the josie and the pussycats spinoff comics are pretty interesting tho.

I'd say the very cream of the crop (for me so far) is the post 2015 complete rehaul of the series as a whole, in a fresh light. Definitely worth reading the road to riverdale volumes, the archie volumes, and the jughead volumes (I'm biased what can I say), even though they have absolutely nothing to do with the show riverdale itself, or even the storylines in the earlier archie comics. Their it's own thing entirely.

And truthfully, I don't actually mind how different of an adaptation something is. I think a darker, more drama focused tone is a fine thing for an adaptation. In theory. Like afterlife with archie comics started in 2013 where zombies take over the town. Because in practice with the riverdale show, oh boy. The issues I have are real. Like, ok its objectively a kind of ridiculous show that I just can't take seriously. It sure is entertaining to watch it crash and burn though. But. Thing is, I just straight up don't even remember anything that happened in it, went in one ear out the other. So it's going to be a surprise for me either way once I get around to it.

Anyways, an adaptation being inaccurate from the source material but still good (howls moving castle, who framed roger rabbit) and being badly written but still enjoyment can be found in it (the black cauldron), and being a somewhat accurate adaptation but still unbearable (the live action avatar the last airbender and percy jackson movies) are all separate things. And riverdale falls into it's own separate category all together, where it is not an accurate adaptation by any means, where the enjoyment of it is entirely dependent on the individual, where it does genuinely bring up some interesting things and compelling plot points, but at the cost of character assasination, plot inconsistencies, and alot of really really awkward dialogue. And thing is, that's just how most shows are anyways. I don't think any archie show is fully good or fully bad, they're all a mixed bag.

Where as in the past there have been adaptations of archie that dont follow the plots or characterizations of the comics as much, but still keep more of the tone of the comics, Archie's weird mysteries 1999, and there have been some that follow the comics somewhat, but change up the tone to be something else entirely, the new Archie's show 1987, and it really just depends on the writers.

I genuinely dont know if theres ever been an entirely accurate archie adaptation, even with how all the comics and shows do have some sort of consistency, whether it be character traits, the places and people in town, plotlines. But theres also the fact that they had so many people making and writing archie comics and various spinoffs all at once, that there is going to be discrepancy between even the comics themselves. Theres no real one accurate archie. Theres how it started out, and how it has changed, evolved, and morphed over time and decades, into an amalgamation of 80 some years worth of recognizable characters and places and plotlines. And riverdale is just one of many bizarre choices in the long and strange history that is archie.

And it's like the last part of my journey, you know. I don't think I can stop even if I wanted to, I'm in too deep now. I gotta know it all. Everything. The good, the bad, the questionable.

(Quick sidebar but also. Theres this live action movie called the archies coming out on Netflix soon, and it looks really interesting, set in 1960s india. I don't know till I see it if it's good, but that alone sounds like an adaptation worth watching, even if it isnt so accurate to the source material, it certainly has the tone of the 1960s shows and comics down it seems.)

Oops! Didnt mean to make this response this long, riverdale is a fascinating mixed bag of just everything to me. I have a lot of thoughts about archie adaptations as always.
