Marvel’s What If Episode 7 Reaction
No no this is the opposite of what I wanted. More Loki! Not less!
If they don’t have Thor being an absolute idiot without Loki being his voice of reason I’m gonna be upset
Wait what the hell I saw Seth Green in the opening credits lmao??? Now I’m just thinking about Chris Griffin
DARCY
Wow they got Jane back too
Soooo how do they know about aliens?
“HOLY MOLY” lmao
Hey thor my life isn’t that dull… okay fine that’s a lie
Sooo Thor is a frat boy?
YOOOO I NEED A SCREENSHOT OF THAT ART WITH THOR AND LOKI
ALL OF IT
Soooo in this world, Odin was a good dude and didn’t kidnap Loki and gave him back to Laufey? (Didnt Laufey abandon him tho since he was too small? I guess in this universe they simply… lost their prince? Lmao?)
Thor didn’t have Loki as his voice of reason I called it.
Night night Odin
Lmao Chad Frigga dipping Odin as soon as he’s asleep
I wonder if they got Idris Elba back for Heimdall?
“We are going to the most backward, backwater planet that not even Heimdall pays attention to.” D,: Thor why you gotta do me dirty like that???
Chris Hemsworth is definitely a better voice actor than some others
Oh yo it be Skurge
Darcy into probing huh?
(Romantic Music Playing) lmao
Man I love Darcy
Poor Howard the Duck lmao (oh yea that’s Seth green)
Skrulls huh
Honestly surprised Thor knows all of these planets. Including the grandmaster??? In the sacred timeline he didn’t even know Sakaar existed.
Wait so, are the Asgardians on good terms with Jotunheim then? If so, I wanna see party loki. Or maybe he’s too reserved for that. I wonder how Laufey raised him? IF WE DONT SEE JOTUN LOKI IM GONNA RIOT
Thor destroyed a star. That sounds about right
“Now that was an excellent party. You know, we lost Fandral for three days. Found him in a barn, curled up next to a baby goat. It was classic. Isn’t that right, Fandral?” “I NAMED HIM GARY!” “Yeah, you did.” “YEA GOATS!” Okay. Screw everyone else in the MCU. I love Fandral now. He’s the GOAT, pun intended
Oh not a star, he killed a whole planet.
I thought Asgardians were supposed to be more advanced than earth but making a tablet is so complicated?
Howard and Darcy was not a pair I thought expected
Yo it’s nebula and korg? So where’s Thanos? How is nebula allowed to go partying with Thanos looking for the infinity stones?
Drax too? Isn’t he in prison? And then Valkyrie? Seems like a lot more than just Thor being an only child is different in this universe. Most of these dudes should hypothetically be in prison or on super serious missions. And I just thought, isn’t Howard the duck imprisoned by the Collector? What’s the timeline for this?
DARCY MARRIES HOWARD THE DUCK? GIRL YOU DESERVE BETTER THAN HIM AND HIS CORKSCREW WANG!
Aaaaaand Jane and Thor got magic and science tattoos. Mighty fast character progression.
Oh? Hookups? That took a turn.
Awwwww Fandral snuggling with a bunch of Chinchilla looking animals <3
Unknown caller?
Dammit Rumlow
Rocket???
Acting director??? What happened to Nick???
KORG NO
Damn everyone crashed at Jane’s
I mean, didn’t seem like too much of a threat
PHIL!!!
Lmao the world isn’t gonna be destroyed by parties?
Oh Carol Danvers?
Okay so…. Lemme get this straight..
Loki and an army of aliens attacking the world? Shield: “nah not a threat.” Robot with robot army threatening to destroy the whole planet “nah Carol has better things to do.” A partying dude from space with no ill intent but just doesn’t seem to understand consequences? “CALL CAPTAIN MARVEL WE NEED HER!!!” Yea okay Shield
Thor loves waffles
LOKI
JOTUN LOKI
HES HERE
LOKI!!!
HOLY CRAP HES HUGE
HE HAS ICE HORNS
See everything would be better without Odin’s interference.
(That’s what she said)
YAY THEYRE FRIENDS
“You’re my brother form another mother man.” YOOOOOO
Loki just sang “Brothers foreveeeeerrrrr!” I can’t—
Aaaaaand fart jokes… “did you boom?” “I never boom. I only boom in private.” Dammit marvel I hoped you were better than this.
LOKI MAKE A WISH
White snake? Lmao where did she get that name lol.
What’s wrong with a party tho? Is this really top priority? Yea they destroyed another planet, but you never explained how
Why doesn’t she sound like Brie Larson? She’s still acting for Marvel Studios so it’s interesting they couldn’t get her for it… unless it is her and I just can’t remember how her voice sounds
Was that punch really necessary? Dude wasn’t posing a threat to anyone.
“You know, there’s a Midgardian word for women like you.” THOR NO—
“PARTY POOPER!” Oh thank God
“This ones for fury” but it wasn’t even Thor that hit him? It was korg and on accident! Cmon carol, I had hoped you’d be smarter than this and more reasonable. Not resorting to violence when nothing has even escalated…
Haha hammer to the face
And the back of the head lmao
BAHAHAHAHA HE JUST SMACKED HER INTO ANOTHER COUNTRY
THOR DONT BOOP STONEHENGE
Dammit Thor
Lmao I love that the countries have their names on them.
Okay just stay and fight here away from civilian population
Marvel really giving us what we want with the most powerful characters fighting
Mary Sue Captain Marvel
Her lipstick has stayed perfect somehow
Fighting in a storm eh? Can’t see how this could go wrong
Haha hammer timeout
Lmao I wanna see Frigga put Thor in a timeout
They’re chanting pooper at her. Is this elementary school again?
Bruh I just realized, Thor is supposed to be acting king while Odin is in Odin sleep lmao. I bet Asgard is going to either be in the best peace ever without Thor or utterly destroyed.
Leave south and north Dakota alone lol
Lmao I love Darcy
YAY GARY THE GOAT WAS SAFE
Wow Jane used the L word fast
Kicking Jane out of the helicarrier? Yea smart move kicking off the person who actually knows anything about this albeit she is a little blinded by love
Giant Loki holding a tiny phone
BAHAHAAHAHA “hey earth girl, you haven’t got a friend, have you!” YES LOKI ITS ME. MARRY ME
Stop throwing phones lmao
BRUH HOW IS SURTUR NOT EVIL EITHER? AND STOP FLIRTING WITH THE STATUE OF LIBERTY.
NO HE DESTROYED HER ARM LMAO
There goes the power grid
NOT THE SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE
Lmao there he goes
WHY DID KORG HAVE A PACIFIER IN HIS MOUTH
Bout time Heimdall popped in
Aaaaaand Jane got abducted by heimdall
Seeing as Heimdall hasn’t said anything, I’m assuming they didn’t get Idris back lol.
How is shield so chill on murdering Thor? Yes he’s destructive but they’re resorting to killing him so fast instead of talking to him! No one has even told him he’s putting the planet at risk! Dudes too dumb to know on his own!
JANE STOP DRINKING
Damn Maria Hill I had higher hopes for you
Lying Thor
Okay so shield trusts Frigga to help, but still irks me that shield was so trigger/nuke happy… seems the opposite of what we’ve seen of them (ugh just gotta ignore it and chock it up to this being an alternate reality)
Ew Drax
Loki calling the other jotuns “ice bros” lmao
It’s also mantis and Yondu!!
wait how did grandmaster just teleport away like the bifrost?
Nice going thor. You big hunky dummy
“MY MOTHER IS COMING.” Good lord is this high school now lmao???
How do they all know Frigga and why are they all afraid?
Damn the bifrost takes a lot longer than I would have expected
No no Thor the tower of pisa is meant to be tilted—oh whatever
Wait, but I don’t see loki helping, is he gonna be up to something last minute to ruin Thor’s cover up lmao?
I don’t believe Frigga would be tricked this easily lmao
Thor you are such a bad liar
Lmao here comes carol
Hahaha how did mjolnir get so trashed
Wow thor is so much taller than Jane
Wow this Jane and Thor seem to have more chemistry than the sacred timeline version ever did
Wait I want resolve for Loki!!
Uh oh
WHAT
ULTRON VISION WITH THE INFINITY STONES?? HOW
No resolution for that??? Well then. Rip this universe too lmao
Damn I wanted more Loki
There better be a Loki centric episode sometime. If they didn’t it’d a huge missed opportunity from marvel
Okay yea looking at the credits, Carol Danvers wasn’t played by Brie Larson but a lady named Alexandra Daniels. Odd they didn’t get Brie Larson.
Probably my favorite episode so far even with how absurd it was. A lot more upbeat than the past few ones with a better resolve to the story imo.
Also, if anyone can provide me of screenshots of Loki from this episode I would be very grateful

chapter 7 (the end? I'm not sure yet)
Title: Winter's Frost Chapter: 7/? Fandom: MCU Rating: R to be on the safe side Pairing: Loki/Bucky Summary: Loki never told anyone the real reason he became so obsessed with Midgard. Much better to let them think he wanted to hurt his brother than draw their attention to the one thing in the universe that makes the God of Mischief truly vulnerable.
WARNINGS: m/m, reference to rape Notes: since I don't read comic books and am a huge Loki (mythology) nerd, I'm pulling on some actual Norse mythology in this one. I've referenced Loki's shapeshifting/gender-bending abilities before, but here I go into something a bit more specific, and take a teensy bit of creative license in the process. so if you're reading and are like "wtf that didn't happen in the movies/comics!" that's because that's not the source material I was using.
The Bifrost was his last resort. The Destroyer had failed to even keep Thor in line or take out the bumbling idiots who didn't even know they were harboring HYDRA within their ranks. Loki had some power, but no allies, and it would take too long for him to ferret out every HYDRA operative hiding on Midgard, but if he could simply wipe SHIELD off the map, that seemed like a good start. But first he needed to know just how destructive the Bifrost really was. Could it be used for a surgical strike? Could he take out one building at a time, or would it truly destroy an entire planet?
Bucky would never forgive him if he destroyed his entire home world just to ensure that his captors were dead.
The obvious solution was, of course, a practice run. It was a good thing he had the perfect target in mind. He would destroy Jotunheim entirely, ensure there was no one left to avenge Laufey, and see how long it took to erase the planet from the cosmos. If the destruction took a while, if he could center it on one thing and have the damage radiate out from there, then after his cursed birthplace was eradicated, he could turn the Bifrost on SHIELD's headquarters. Then, all that remained was to go down, grab Bucky, and then come back and destroy the bunker in Siberia. There would be no more torture, no more Winter Soldiers. No more trauma for the man he loved.
Oh, who let bloody Thor out of his desert cell? The meathead always had to complicate everything. Loki lacked the time, and frankly the patience, to deal with his self-righteous adoptive brother's newfound life purpose, which seemed to be 'annoy Loki by any means necessary.' Not so new, then, he supposed. Simply a new method.
I don't have time for this, you oaf! "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to destroy Jotunheim!"
For all that it lacked delicacy, he really felt this plan was a perfect win-win. His father would wake to find his oldest enemies eradicated, his heir apparent revealed as the reckless idiot Loki had always known him to be, and a new heir standing proud and ready to take his place. Bucky would be safe and sound, and since all of his friends and family were likely dead by now, there would be nothing to tie him to Midgard any longer. Perhaps he could be convinced, finally, to come home with him to Asgard and rule by his side. With Loki's shapeshifting power, they could even have a family. Hopefully Odin would stop keeping Loki's children as pets. Truth be told, he was still a little bitter about Sleipnir; unintentional though his conception had been, he was still Loki's son.
Even if Odin didn't see reason when it came to Thor, now that the idiot had fallen in love with a human of his own – after a weekend – that could at least pave the way for Loki to come forward about his own star-crossed love, and maybe be accepted at last. At the end of the day, he had no real interest in ruling Asgard, only stepping out of his brother's shadow and not facing ridicule for who his heart chose. He didn't even know anymore what he was more afraid of; Odin finding out he'd fallen for another man, or Odin finding out he'd fallen for a human.
"Loki, you can't kill an entire race!"
"Why not?" He laughed, though he was more confused than anything else. Since when did Thor care? "Oh, what is this newfound love for the Frost Giants? You could have killed them all with your bare hands!"
"I've changed."
In three days? He doubted it, but he supposed stranger things had happened. It didn't really matter; all he wanted in that moment was to prove to Thor, and to himself, that all his years of practice had meant something; that he was truly every bit the warrior his brother was. Mostly, though, he wanted to kill time and keep Thor from breaking through the ice barrier to stop the Bifrost. It was taking its sweet time tearing Jotunheim apart; that was frustrating with Thor there waiting to muck things up, but encouraging for his true purpose.
"Loki, this is madness!"
"Is it madness? Is it?!" You have no idea! "Come on, what happened on Earth that's turned you so soft?! Don't tell me it was that woman!" I've spent years mourning a love I built and cherished and could tell no one about, and you get to parade around proud as a peacock after spending three days with her?! That is madness!
The look on Thor's face told him everything he needed to know, and he almost vomited. It wasn't just the ridiculously brief time he'd spent with her; Thor could do no wrong in their father's eyes. Even if he marched right up to Odin and announced that he intended to marry this woman and make her his Queen, he would suffer no consequences. No one would dare to speak against the heir apparent; the witless wonder could have anything and everything he wanted! Meanwhile Loki was raped in the service of one of Odin's pettier schemes, and he was ridiculed as weak and a pitiful clown, the son he bore taken from him to be ridden into battle like he was little more than another expendable tool for Odin to use and discard.
The more he thought about how differently their father treated them, the more embarrassed he felt for having been surprised to learn he was adopted. Stolen, really; like everything else Odin thought might one day prove useful. And still, Loki loved him. Still, he looked up to Odin as a father and wanted his love and acceptance. Odin had tormented and humiliated him for most of his life, and Loki still wanted to make him proud. How pathetic.
He was too distracted; too lost in his own spiraling thoughts. Thor kept getting the upper hand, and it was only thanks to Loki's talent for illusion and duplicate-casting that he hadn't outright lost yet. At least he did have those things going for him.
"Enough!"
Damn. Too stunned by how hard he'd landed to move, he could only watch helplessly as his adoptive brother approached, certain Thor would kill him. Instead, he sat Mjolnir on Loki's chest. The blasted thing weighed a ton! He could feel it crushing his chest, preventing him from moving and making it harder and harder to breathe. The painful weight of it was too much to bear, but he refused to suffer in silence.
"Look at you," he taunted with what little breath he could muster. "The mighty Thor! With all your strength... And what good does it do you now, huh?!" He could swear the stupid hammer was getting heavier by the second. He could feel the weight of it cracking his ribs, and he winced, gasping for air.
"Do you hear me, brother? There's nothing you can do!"
And suddenly it was gone, and the bridge was shaking. Stunned, he lifted his head to look, and saw Mjolnir back in Thor's hand. "What are you doing?" No, no, NO! He sat up, horrified as he watched his brother smash his hammer down over and over again. "If you destroy the bridge, you'll never see her again!" I'll never see him again!
No, he couldn't let this happen! Never mind all his desperate half-thought-out plans to save Bucky and destroy HYDRA... He couldn't bear the thought of losing him forever! It'd been hard enough to go on living when he'd thought his beloved was dead; knowing he lived but was a helpless slave, alone with no one to protect him, to rescue him? Loki would rather die.
It hurt to move, but he had to get up. He had to stop Thor! If he destroyed the Bifrost, Bucky would be left alone in the clutches of his enemies forever!
The world was a blur for a moment. He was running at his brother, the bridge was shuddering beneath their feet, there was a blinding flash, and then suddenly Loki was dangling over an empty void, his only tether to solid ground his grip on the end of Odin's staff. Thor held the other end for dear life, though he, too, dangled precariously over open air. How had they not both fallen yet?
Odin. Odin was holding onto Thor to keep both of his sons from flying off into oblivion. Did he know what Loki had done? What he'd tried to do? Was he finally proud?
"I could have done it, Father! I could've done it! For you!" For Bucky... "For all of us!"
"No, Loki."
He didn't care. No matter what he did, Loki would never be good enough; would never be Thor's equal in their father's eyes. And worse, now his only link to Midgard and to the man he loved was gone. Now Loki didn't care. To Hell with them all.
A strange sense of peace, of surrender, came over him and, without a single thought nor care for what might happen, he let go. The sensation of falling with nowhere to land was strangely comforting. Perhaps the next life would be kinder to him than this one had been.

I need an explanation of why it's widely accepted that Loki never did anything wrong (and finding out that Odin lied to him =/= excuse for any of his actions).  Right off the bat in Thor 1 he was the reason the Frost Giants got into the vault (getting them killed).  He was a prince of Asgard, he had to know how the security system worked.  This was before he even found out he was lied to. He lied to Thor and was going to keep him in exile. He killed Laufey. He tried to destroy Jotunheim.
Why is none of this addressed?  It feels so inconsistent?  That line he uttered in the last episode about "all these people are going to die" as if his heart was bleeding for them when my man tried to blow up a planet.
I’m not touching his actions or personality in The Avengers since people are split on the mind control thing, but the things he did in Thor were very much just Loki.
This is not a post about whether he’s good or bad or OOC or deserving of redemption etc etc this is just me asking why Show Loki looks nothing like Thor Loki and maybe somebody has an actual answer for that and I’d love to know it!
AND ALL OF THIS IS ALSO TO SAY
that YES Loki could have done all of these things and ACT EXACTLY THE WAY HE IS IN THE SHOW
BUT
why is the narrative not addressing his darker side then?
It's the narrative I have a problem with, ultimately, because it feels like the writers just ignored all of that (which is really summed up in that “all these people are going to die” quote from him. By making him say that, you are portraying him as someone who has a soft heart. That’s the point of the line.  You can’t just ignore that the same character was shown to indiscriminately kill others in another movie.)
If the whole "Thanos mind-controlled Loki" thing is true, it has never been addressed  either.  Why is this not a sub-plot of Loki trying to come to terms with shit.  We went straight to “Loki is having a manic break but we’re not giving you any background”

Part 40 - Sleepy
No one’s POV...
"You can't force Loki to go to Vomir with Frigga and kill her ! This is madness !", Laufey yelled at you.
"I know it is cruel, but it's the only way. I will have to find a way later to revive her. But for now...there is no turning back. It's too late for another plan. Time is ticking and we are on the clock."
"How the fuck would you revive her ?!"
"I don't know !!"
There was dead - silence. You sighed.
"I just know that I can repair the damage I cause. There is always a way out, instead of deeper inside."
"You don't know that for sure...", he mumbled.
"Just...! Just trust me for even once. Please."
He inhaled deeply.
"Fine...I trust you."
You nodded.
"Thanks."
"Have you already done some research ?"
"About reviving spells ? No. All these books in Asgard got burned down a long time ago. But I am still searching."
"Great...just great...", he sighed.
"I know a place, where all strong spell books lie. But I have no idea, if it's still all there and stands..."
"What is the place called ?"
"Destraliationa. There is a library called 'The all knowing of all'"
"Destraliationa ? What is this place ?"
"It was my home - realm. Far away from here...I don't even know if someone still lives there or if it still exists..."
Laufey stared at you.
"What happened ?", he asked you.
"The Chitauri, the Other and Thanos with his big ass army, attacking us. I escaped closely, but I don't know if anything or anyone survived the attack.", you told him in a sad tone.
"I am sorry for that."
You gave Laufey a sad smile.
"The past is the past..."
"...but the future isn't written yet. I know, I know...I don't understand how you can be so positive, even in the darkest of days..."
"I always find a way. Don't you remember how I rescued Frigga ?"
"I do. With your strengths, intelligence, skills and positive thoughts."
"Exactly. If you think just negative, nothing will work your way."
"Hmm...You are right."
"I know that I am. Now let's go back."
Laufey nodded and they went back to his house. As they arrived they saw Loki sleeping peacefully on the couch.
"What is he doing here ? Why isn't he with the others ?", Laufey whisper - asked you confused.
"Maybe Thor was snoring again...Loki is a light sleeper.", you whispered back.
Laufey nodded in acknowledgement. Suddenly Loki started to sweat. He turned, trashed and whimpered.
"What is happening to him ?", Laufey asked worried.
"He has a nightmare...again...", you sighed.
"About what ?"
"His traumatizing torture at Thanos for 2 years."
Suddenly Loki jumped up, gasping. Tears streaming down his face. You came to Loki's side and pulled him into a tight hug.
"Shh...You're safe. Everything is okay..."
He took fast, unsteady, short breaths.
"Shh...Take deep breaths. Inhale..."
Loki did as you told and showed him, taking a deep breath with you.
"Exhale..."
He did it with you again. After the 5th breath his breathing was steady again.
"Wanna talk about it ?", you asked Loki.
"N-...No thanks.", Loki said.
"You should tho Loki. The more you keep to yourself...the more it will destroy you.", Laufey warned him.
"How would you know ?", Loki asked him.
Laufey sighed and sat down.
"Because I did this mistake too. I never told anyone my worries, just my brother. And he brought me to my fall. He manipulated me and I started a war...and lost you, my wife and my best friends."
'Bruh. No shit Sherlock !', you thought.
"It ate and destroyed me...And I changed for the worst, not for the better..."
"Oh..."
"The sun is slowly coming up again. Do you still wanna try sleeping ?"
"....No...."
Loki laid down yawning and fell asleep, with his head in your lap.
"Didn't he just say 'No.'?", Laufey asked chuckling.
"Nah. Let him be.", you responded.
"Ok. Fine."
15 more minutes went by...
"Can you awake the others, Laufey ?", you asked him.
"Of course."
Laufey stood up and went to the others. He opened the door and saw everyone sleeping.
"Guys...wake up.", Laufey said softly.
Nobody, except Frigga, awoke.
"Good morning Laufey.", she said smiling.
He smiled back.
"Good morning."
They both looked at the rest and Frigga nodded to Laufey, who had the same idea as him.
"GUYS WAKE UP !!", they both shouted.
They all fell, screaming, out of the bed.
"What happened ?!", Thor asked with hammer in hand.
"It's time to get ready for the day. Loki is sleeping. Let him sleep. He didn't sleep much. He needs it.", Laufey told them.
They all nodded and went out with him. They were all soon in the living room and saw Loki laying in your lap. They all awed.
"As soon as Loki is awake, we have to leave Jotunheim and go back to Asgard. Tomorrow we return and have a journey to a planet, you don't know of. After this we return back to Jotunheim and then continue to plan Thanos' downfall. Got it ?"
They all nodded.
"Good. Today you will train, no breaks. Where we will go tomorrow, will be dangerous. VERY dangerous. You will go very early in bed, because I will awake you at Midnight. Even you, Frigga. Then we leave and go get Laufey, then we leave and go to a planet, that may help us a little bit more."
They all nodded and wanted to sit down.
"Did I tell you to sit down ? Go train outside with Laufey and a few guards. I will tell you when we go."
They all groaned, except for Frigga, and went out. You stroked Loki's hair softly and smiled.
"I hope you will never find out, that I love you more, than a friend and 'sister' should.", you whispered.
Loki just snuggled more with you and pressed his face into your stomach. You smiled and chuckled softly.
'At least he has no nightmares...'

𝖫𝖮𝖪𝖨 𝖵𝖠𝖱𝖨𝖠𝖭𝖳 ( 𝖲𝖸𝖫𝖵𝖨𝖤 ) 𝖮𝖱𝖨𝖦𝖨𝖭𝖠𝖫 𝖳𝖨𝖬𝖤𝖫𝖨𝖭𝖤 𝖯𝖠𝖱𝖳 𝟣
BEFORE THOR: loki laufeydottir, this is the only name she has ever known. she has always known that she was adopted, that she is laufey’s daughter who was found by odin. this is something she has always know. the meek daughter of laufey that was left behind. she is thor odinson’s sister. the goddess of mischief. they lose frigga early in her childhood, and yet she realizes that everything she knows, ever one of her powers is thanks to her. from the books that she left behind. as she grows, she thought of her kind, what they are, and what she can never be. she earns the title of princess of asgard, and everyone is reassured that she will never get to reign. this wariness of her is not because of her heritage (in fact no one knows she is the daughter of a frost giant besides close family, not even the friends, she and thor share). she has no intention to rule, in fact, she rather likes that the responsibility is passed to her brother. yes, she is fascinated by frost giants, and actually makes contact with them at one point. but, it is never about ruling and being queen. it’s about knowing where she comes from.
THOR: we see her first, in thor’s first scene. at his side, for getting ready to accept the throne with the rest of their friends. she smiles even, when she sees that her brother will be ascending into the throne. what she does not know, is that frost giants (aided by her tie to the planet and her cousin) have infiltrated the vault. she is by the side of odin and thor, watching the interaction, and finds it amusing almost. big reminder: she does not not know of the plans of the frost giants, but it is because of her ties to them. and she also agrees with thor, because she believes that they should protect asgard no matter what. she doesn’t realize how bad it is about to get, and how much of a knucklehead her brother is. she is only supporting thor and his lcaim to the throne because she believes that odin is wrong. she obviously tries to charm heimdall, because that is her thing, silver tongue is a nickname she takes to fondly. and rather than being a joke, it’s a sense of pride. sometimes it does not work and she can laugh about it. loki hates the idea of being discovered, of the people of asgard fully finding out that she is the daughter of the same frost giants that have... killed and maimed her people. big reminder again: she DID NOT let them in, no no, but they did use her as a bridge to get to asgard without her knowledge. and she does absolutely try to stop thor from being a idiot and obviously does not work because they just had to call him ‘little princess’. she fights with the as we see in movie. and does absolutely see her hand turn blue, and the way that the frost giant reacts. she wastes no time to kill that frost giant. she runs as we see on the show, trying to make sure her friend  does not die and that they themselves don’t die. she realizes that she is at fault for this mission as much as thor is. she had encouraged the will in him, told him he was right and gave him an edge.what she does not expect is odin, to make an appearance, to talk this way about them, and to whisk them away like that. when odin and thor fight, she does try to defend thor, only to be shut down and screamed out. but it is then, she realizes then that, it is her fault that the frost giants have made their way into asgard. what she does not expect is odin to cast out thor, when she is as much to blame as he is. she spends most of her time thinking once thor is gone. she keeps looking at solutions. and she also told heimdall to find odin and tell him. she is still suspected, and thought to be the user to bring them there. while she had a hand, she is not the one. the scene where we see loki touch the casket, does happen. but she knows. she knows, and she hates that her skin is blue, that she is... a frost giant. the conversation does not happen in pain, but rather, it is a way of her realizing that she is needed for peace. she call for medics as soon as odin crumbles, wanting to ensure a future of azgard. she realizes now, that she needs to be a bridge. a bridge for peace, not something that the frost giants use and discard. and yes, loki does take to the throne because she is next in line sadly. the scene goes mostly the same, but her friends do ask to end thor’s banishment. she says the same, but she truly means it. she knows that if she reverses what odin declared, she will be considered an undoer. and that is everything but what she wants. the conversation over odin’s bed goes a little different where loki asks frigga if she can truly bring peace. if she can be the bridge that they need her to be. she also appears to thor, and tells him the father is in his sleep rather than dead. she is honest, but cruel, because she needs him to suffer. she needs him to realize what he has done. she lies about their mother, to punish him, to make him realize.she never expect an apology or for him to cry, but hopes he understands what he needs to do, what needs to be done to ensure thor gets back. she cannot hand it to him, because it is not within her right. she tries to lift the hammer, but realizes that it won’t work for her. she is not worthy of it. she does goes to jotunheim to talk to laufey, and lies to them. tells them that she willing showed them how to get to asgard. that was a lie, and also tries to forge a peace. she does not bring back frost giants, but they have already... found a way in. following her, following her magic and her way of using that same magic. they use her a bridge once more, this time with one of half brothers, a true frost giant, wanting to rule asgard as his sister is the newest queen and he is older. let it be clear, that loki makes it treason to find thor because it is what has been told. thor needs to find his own way back home, find himself to be worthy. he must do that on his own (or so she believes) and sends the destroyer because it’s what she believes must be done. she does not wish to bring them harm, not to their friends or thor. she does as what she believes must be done. and sif gives thor hope rather than telling him that odin is alive. she does relive heimdall of his duties but because is what she believes it right. she does not freeze him, but her half brother does, and lets the other frost giants inside of asgard. loki plays along with the frost giants, letting them believe that she is on their side, that she hates all of asgard for lying and keeping who she was from herself. they all believe her to be the bad guy, to be the one that let the frost giants in. again it is her half brother that lets the frost giants inside and has frozen heimdall, not loki herself. she does play along because it serves her best at the moment. she kills laufey, knowing that it might be the start of a war, and knows that her brother will be angry, and she lets him believe whatever he wants. and goes on to destroy jotunheim, to ensure that nobody finds out who she is. she might be adopted, but she is his daughter. they do not fight, instead have a very heated conversation about her and the frost giants. they do fight, but it’s more about thor wanting to close the bifrost rather than wanting to kill him. she does use her illusion work to try and stop him from closing the bifrost, and is defeated. knowing her plan has thwarted, she does try to stop him, only to be too late. the speach goes mostly the same, but she does not let go. no, she lets herself be rescued by odin and thor. it takes a lot of her to do that, to accept that she needs all the help she can get. it takes a while before anyone can trust her, trust that she does not mean harm, and that she only did what needed to be done. she is apologetic and truly tries to be the best version of herself. tries to ensure that she does not believe her own lies.
it should be noted that who we see talking to fury and eric is NOT loki, it is her half brother, the frost giant.

Comic Thoughts: Power in ‘The Mighty Thor’ vols. 1, 2, & 3
Some background:
About a month after the pandemic started, I reached out to a coworker/friend who is into comics, too. I asked for a DC story/graphic novel I should read that we could then discuss. Thus our 2-person comic reading club was born. We’ve read some Superman, Black Widow, and Green Lantern. And now we are reading Jason Aaron’s The Mighty Thor.
Reading The Mighty Thor as graphic novels (and after going through breast cancer) is different from reading them issue by issue. It’s clear Jason Aaron has some views on power.
Volume 1 - Masculine vs feminine power
Volume 2 - Corporate power & greed
Volume 3 - What it means to be a god
Volume 1 - Thunder in Her Veins
Masculine vs feminine power
This first volume is as much about Loki as it is about Thor. And I find Loki’s story to be more compelling than Thor’s.
Loki has 2 fathers who see him as “less than”. For Laufey (and Odin), power is about brute strength, not intelligence. Loki is lesser because he is not as big and strong as a Frost Giant should be. Loki has to use his mind, his magic, his understanding of people to get what he wants.  In this volume, Loki can’t seem to decide if he is trying to earn Laufey’s love or if he wants to annoy him. It doesn’t matter all that much as it is secondary to his true goal, joining Maleketh’s group as they conquer the realms one by one. But to do that, he has to get the approval of daddy Laufey, who make it clear he does not like Loki’s powers. Despite “passing the test” (i.e. not getting killed by a bunch of Frost Giants), no one on Maleketh's team trusts him. Given how many Loki’s there are, he can’t exactly trust himself either. Only one thing is for certain, Loki is a survivor.
With Thor, Odin cannot stand the fact that a woman is using Mjolnir. He wants her dead and the hammer back where it belongs - with his son. And yet every time Mjolnir presents itself, Jane has a choice to make. She can pick it up and have her cancer treatment be ineffectual, or she can ignore it and the people who need her help. She picks up the hammer every time, slowly killing herself not for glory or to gain power over others but instead to provide help.
Volume 2 - The Lords of Midgard
Corporate power & greed
We discussed this the Friday after the company we work for announced that there would be layoffs but before anyone was told whether they were being laid off or not. It put the story of Dario Agger’s greed and complete disregard for others into sharp focus, amplifying the feelings of anxiety and of being “cogs in a machine” that could be discarded with seeming ease.
Agger is the CEO of Roxxon Energy.  He had a plan to destroy Manhattan and everyone on it if something happened to him. He did not care about those who worked for him. He did not care if he destroyed planets to get the resources he needed. He is every energy company CEO that has known for years that people are causing climate change but are doing their damnedest to convince everyone climate change does not exist.
The message is clear. Corporations don’t care about people, they care about profits. And Agger is the personification of “If I can’t have it, no one can.”
There is a bit at the end where his lawyers want to sue the company that made the jets (as a way to claim it was faulty technology and not a pre-determined process that almost destroyed Manhattan). One notes that the company is a subsidiary of Roxxon Energy. The solution? Sell the subsidiary and then sue it. It’s all slight of hand and optics.
Later Dario Agger shows up in Immortal Hulk. There he represents the Mark Zuckerbergs of the world. Profit is the most important. And if it means convincing people to believe in a reality that doesn’t actually exist, then so be it.
Volume 3 - Asgard/Shi’ar War
What does it mean to be a god?
This volume is all about the power of gods. Brief Synopsis: Loki bruises the egos of the Shi’ar gods, causing them to challenge Thor to determine who the best god is.
The Shi’ar gods see power as destruction. They create a tsunami so that the people will pray to them. Other challenges include getting someone to kill their child, spreading disease, and just generally causing pain and suffering. The Asgardian gods are little better. They are a society of warriors after all. But Thor, having all of Jane’s experiences, sees her role as bringing relief and healing.
During the challenges, particularly the tsunami, there is the notion that the gods bring hardships, and we pray for them to spare us then pray more in thanks when they do. But there is no deliberate choice on the gods’ part as to who will be saved. It’s just a game. We are playthings for them when they get bored.
But Jane is still human and knows first hand from having cancer how arbitrary it all is. She is a doctor first, god second. (A god who does not believe in gods.) She’d rather help people than be seen as all-powerful, particularly if power equates to destruction.
Given all of that, I know Jane would want us all to wear masks.

Chapter 27: Jotunheim
With the first light of dawn came a renewed sense of purpose for Loki. He hadn’t slept a wink but he found himself buzzing with energy, and when he ventured out to the lush castle grounds he saw Hela gazing up at the sunrise. He wondered if she, too, had stayed up all night thinking about their next move.
A slight breeze brushed Hela’s hair across her gaunt shoulders, carrying the scent of honeysuckle and the nearby river, and when she turned her head toward Loki she was smiling. After a moment her smile faded, however, and a somber mood settled over the garden. It was then that Loki sensed her restless energy, and he could tell she was itching to do something, and whatever it was wasn’t going to be easy.
“You must know as well as I do that Asgard isn’t going to just hand me the throne,” Hela said, rubbing her hands together as she began to pace. “Mages or not, the Alfar are outnumbered. I will not lead them into slaughter.”
Loki had had the same thought the night before. As grateful as he was to have Sigyn and Freyr’s support, their army was no match in numbers to Asgard’s. “I’m glad you agree,” he confessed.  “I take it you have another plan?”
Conflicted thoughts warred in Hela’s dark eyes. Determined as she was, something was still holding her back, fear or apprehension or perhaps regret. Slowly she nodded her head. “I do.”
“Am I allowed to know this plan, or am I to follow blindly?” Loki didn’t intend to come across so harshly, but every second passed meant another opportunity wasted, and it wouldn’t be long before the King and Princess would wake.
Hela looked toward the sky once more, the sun’s rays casting her pale face in a warm light that almost seemed to turn her cheeks pink. For a moment Loki regretted his words; after all he had been through his tongue was often sharp enough to hurt others when he wasn’t careful, and though he barely knew her, she was his mother.
Almost if he hadn’t spoken at all, Hela continued. “We must return to Asgard. Odin’s Vault. There’s an army beneath its floors, long buried, waiting for someone to give them life. With them I - we - can secure the palace. But we can’t just walk in and do what we like. My power is somewhat weakened outside of Asgard, and you can teleport. What is the closest you can get us to the Vault?”
“My- my chambers,” Loki said, slightly stunned. Doubt crept in his mind but there was no time to give in to it. “They have been sealed with a spell since-” The memory choked him, so he moved on. “It will be safe to teleport there.”
“This is the only way,” Hela assured him. “The only way to right all the wrongs, to make up for the sins of the Allfather. You can stop running. We can stop running.”
Loki turned to look at the castle that had once been his home. Yet again he had to leave, to fight that part of him that longed to stay. And now he had reason to doubt that, once all was said and done, he would even be welcomed back. When he turned toward her again Hela had her long arm outstretched to him, waiting for his hand. With a final nod he placed his hand in hers, and in a flash of green, they left Alfheim behind.
.-
Loki had spent so much of his life traveling these halls without being seen that he could venture through them now with little effort, even with Hela in tow. It wasn’t an easy feat, as they could barely fit through some of his hiding places, but it took them straight to the vaults unnoticed by the several Einherjar that patrolled the corridors. As soon as they were inside the Vault, Loki sealed the room with a spell.
Hela looked around and couldn’t help but smirk dryly at the garish displays of brute force, left largely untouched over the centuries. War trophies from Odin’s reign - some from even before she was born - sat proudly on pedestals all over the room like they were altars to a past that should be revered. Imagining the lies he must have sold to the people about how he won these stolen goods felt like someone had spat in her face.
Loki stood to the side of the center pathway, watching his mother closely as she examined some of the newer items she hadn’t seen before, such as the Warlock’s Eye which had been acquired by Thor and his lackeys many years ago. He wondered what was going through her head, the complicated rush of emotions she was doubtlessly experiencing seeing the fruits of her father’s tyranny again as if no time had passed. A knot formed in his stomach as he remembered that he was one of them.
Hela walked resolutely to the end of the corridor and knelt to the floor, pressing her fingertips to a decorative stone circle just before the gate where the Destroyer used to be kept. She murmured a brief spell and the stones fell away, revealing a massive dark cavern beneath the floor. Loki swore in surprise and ran closer as Hela stood back up and went over to the pedestal that held the Eternal Flame. With no hesitation she placed her hand in the fire and pulled it back out unharmed, with a small piece of the Flame flickering in her palm.
The bright flame lit up the crypt below just enough for Loki to see. The floor at the bottom was covered with hundreds of rows of long-dead soldiers in their place of honor, skeletons still in their armor, all with their heads facing the empty space in the middle where the King’s insignia was carved into the floor.
A battalion waiting for their King’s command.
Once again Hela knelt, gently placing her palm - and the Flame - to the edge of the circle at their feet.
“Ennösta.”
The entire crypt lit up, glowing dark orange, as the flames spread through the cracks. Loki was unsure what to expect, so he took a few steps away from the circle. Hela rose to her feet and waited patiently, the sound of voices growing louder by the second. At last, one ghoul rose from the crypt and stood tall and proud in front of Hela, silently waiting for her command.
Loki didn’t dare move as he observed the creature.
The ghost was surrounded by a green eerie light, the same that glowed brightly in his eyes. His body seemed transparent, but not quite. As it moved, sometimes you could see flesh, and in other places bones showed through. Loki could recognize what he was wearing as Asgardian armor, but not the one he remembered seeing his whole life. The winged helmet reminded him of Odin’s, but the knots and swirls and symbols that covered the rest of the armor were entirely unfamiliar.
This was old. Likely older than Odin himself. Did Odin even know this was here?
Hela crossed her wrists in an ancient Aesir greeting. “You know my blood, Hersir. I am your Queen. Asgard is threatened. Take your men and secure the castle. Kill none that are unarmed.”
The ghoul nodded once and marched toward the Vault door. Hundreds of soldiers rose from the crypt and followed him in a perfect line, their feet making no sound as they went. Loki didn’t even have to lift his spell on the door - they simply went through it. Hela watched proudly as each one passed and sighed with relief.
Loki tore his eyes away from the risen army and he saw the Casket Of Ancient Winters. Guilt swelled in his chest. He killed their king, he tried to destroy their planet. If he could only do one thing to repair the damage…
“I have to take it back.”
Hela followed Loki’s gaze and frowned. “How, exactly, are we going to do that? I believe your teleportation won’t work all the way to Jotunheim.”
Loki was surprised at noticing Hela’s choice of words. But he didn’t have time to ask. A plan formulated in his head, and a smile spread across his face.
“We’re going to steal a ship.”
.-
With the castle secured by the army of the dead, Loki and Hela had little trouble sneaking to the hangar and stealing one of the skiffs. Loki had discovered several ways in and out of Asgard when he was a teenager, and remembered with shame and regret the first time he used the one leading to Jotunheim, not even imagining how his life would be completely torn to pieces by his actions.
It was a stupid joke!
They rode the small ship through a path in the forests around the castle to a portal in the side of a mountain, and with a flash of white, they landed on Jotunheim. It was nearing dusk, in the middle of a fierce snow storm, but Loki tried not to draw attention to the fact that he didn’t need to bundle up like Hela did.
Hela sighed deeply and clutched her cloak to her chest. “It’s worse than I thought,” she muttered.
Loki said nothing. He remembered Hela telling him Jotunheim was dying, and had been dying for over a millenia already. It was hard to imagine how the planet could ever have been any different to the frozen wasteland that laid before them.
Looking around, Hela tried to recognize the landscape, searching for a glimpse of anything familiar. It was difficult to see through the blinding winds, but she looked up at the sky and told Loki they would need to head in the direction of the setting sun. Not wanting to alert anyone of their presence, they decided to abandon the skiff and go on foot.
“Princess Sigyn, then,” Hela said out of the blue only a few minutes later, with a smirk Loki didn’t see.
Loki couldn’t help but blush all the way down his neck. Small talk, we are doing small talk. He took a moment to decide how to answer her. None of the options he thought of was a short way to explain.
“My inherited powers were out of control when I was a kid,” Loki began. “Frigga thought it was best for me to learn Seidr, and control it. She said--” He sighed. “She said so many things…” He decided to leave out the bullying, the years of self harm and wanting to end it all, just to make the pain stop. It didn’t exactly make for pleasant conversation. “They sent me to the sanctum in Alfheim, to train and learn how to harness the power of my magic. I stayed with King Freyr and the Princess, and I suppose we became rather close.”
Loki couldn’t exactly pinpoint why it was so easy to tell Hela everything, even things he hadn’t shared with anyone else. The more he said, the more he wanted to keep talking. He told her about Erik, and Gwyn, and how Sigyn became more to him than just a friend. Freyr’s offer to let Sigyn marry him. The pain he experienced having to come back to Asgard indefinitely, forced to fall into his royal duties and once again become second best to Thor. He confessed his original plan to thwart and postpone Thor’s coronation, and how it led to the discovery of his true identity, or at least part of it.
Hela listened to him in silence, somehow enjoying Loki’s recounts, and hurt for having missed it. Every day during her pregnancy she had imagined what his life would have been like, dreamed of watching him grow into a strong Jotun prince, away from the corrupt influence of Odin’s tyranny and his endless obsession with becoming the fiercest Allfather the nine realms had ever seen. Instead Loki was raised as an unwanted son, learned to hate himself from a young age because he was different. Though she had been the one to take Odin’s last breath, it still would never make up for what he did to her son.
The crumbling ruins of the Jotnar Temple were clearer and closer now. The blizzard had slowed down, and the fresh snow piled up against the walls. Loki and Hela looked around, trying to catch any signs of movement, but there was none. No soldiers, no guards. The temple was empty and void of life.
Hela’s footsteps made no sound on the fallen snow as she entered the foyer. She looked up, noticing the massive hole in the ceiling and the crumbling columns that barely still held up the whole structure. She realized the only reason the temple was still standing was the rock being frozen solid to the ground.
Loki moved as quietly as possible as he followed Hela. The tiniest flutter of recognition hovered at the far reaches of his mind, but he couldn’t place it yet. Hela walked solemnly to the middle of the temple, where the altar stood. She knelt behind it and pushed on the huge flagstone. The concealed door opened to a small dark space.
“This is where I sent you, after you were born, when Odin came for me. I had hoped you would be safe, protected by the Casket.” She paused, taking a deep breath. “I was wrong.”
At her words, a flashback of a dream, or a dream within a dream, came over Loki. An image of a dark room and a bright blue light. He never knew what it meant, or why it was so ingrained in his brain. Now, it made sense.
Without a word, he summoned the Casket in his hands. As the cold spread his skin turned blue, with distinct markings on his hands and forearms.
Hela replaced the flagstone altar, and Loki lowered the casket and placed it inside, locking it to the rectangular space where it belonged. The casket emitted a brighter, bluer light that seemed to spread through the frozen foundations of the temple. Somehow, it knew it had come home. Hela let out a sigh of relief and stood up, smiling at Loki as she took in his blue skin and red eyes.
“There you are,” she said quietly, folding her hands together. “That’s how you looked the last time I saw you. You take after your father.”
A small measure of heat rising in his cheeks, Loki looked away, back at the Casket. He had so many questions about that night, but he wasn’t sure where to begin, and the emotional weight of letting someone see him like this was too much at once. “So,” he changed the subject, “what happened after that?”
Hela’s expression darkened. “I would realize too late that Odin would come here to steal the Casket. Once he found it, he found you.”
“Why didn’t he kill me?” Loki muttered, staring at his hands as they came back to their regular color.
“The old fool could never.” Hela half smiled. “Just as he didn’t kill me, he wasn’t going to murder his own lineage. He was too proud to spill a drop of his blood. It doesn’t matter if you were-”
“-A mistake.”
“You were not a mistake.” Hela turned and gave Loki a hard glare. “Listen to me, you were not a mistake. Never. You were conceived by love, and loved from the very moment we knew you existed.”
Loki felt a tightness in his throat. Love. The one and only thing that he craved to get from his family. But instead he got lies and rejection. He clenched his fists. Yet another thing that was stolen from me.
Hela sighed deeply. “I spent a thousand years going over everything,” she explained. “Trying to figure out how to escape. What I could have done differently to make it work. I regret many things that I did and many more that I didn’t. The one thing I never regretted was you.”
Loki stared blankly, not quite sure how to process that. Hela shook her head and looked down.
“I know I’m asking for something seemingly impossible,” she continued. “If it were up to me I would erase everything Odin ever told you, everything he ever did to you. But I can’t.” As much as Hela tried to hide it, Loki could see how much it pained her. “All I can give you is the truth. I have no reasons to lie to you.”
That’s so much more than anything anyone in my family ever did for me.
A distant rumble distracted them, and the ground began to shake.
“The Jotuns have noticed us,” Hela said, and ran to the archway. “They will be here soon. We must go.”
Loki took her hand and they fled the temple to a safe distance, where the magic from the Casket didn’t interfere with his own. Before the Frost Giants could find them, he teleported them together back to his chambers in the palace.

In a heartbeat (Chapter 31)
A/N: ARE YOU GUYS READY FOR A NEW CHAPTER?!
Doctor Strange possessed an extraordinary sense of perception. With his enchanted red cloak, nearly no enemy was enabled to sneak up on him. It clung around him like a second pair of eyes, scanning the environment behind his back to protect him from evil.
It startled him all the more when suddenly, the cloak flattered wildly, excitedly like a dog that had been promised a fresh and juicy bone. Alarmed, he turned on his heel, facing an all too familiar man only few feet from where he was standing, burying his nose in a magic book in an attempt to stop Thanos’ schemes.
“Loki,” he began dismayed, slightly tilting his head to replace a half-hearted greeting. His fingers were ready to cast a spell and send him flying through dimensions again when he took a threatening step forward but then, much to his surprise, lifted both his hands in defeat.
“Listening to what I have to say might turn out to be in your own interest, sorcerer. And in that of the entire Midgardian population.” He spoke darkly, his voice oddly calm.
Strange hesitated. “I have seen you and Thor in a vision. You are dead.”
“As far as Thanos is concerned, I am.” Loki simply replied, shooting him a stern look in the process. Strange understood immediately. So he was the first one to learn that the God of Mischief was still alive and had fooled death once again.
He nodded slowly. “So what do you want here?” Loki clenched his fists, fighting the itching urge to conjure two shiny daggers to stab the would-be sorcerer. Thanos’ lackeys would be here any minute. He did not have any spare time.
“I demand to know the whereabouts of my people. The Valkyrie and the Cronan took the Arc and fled. I know they have contacted you. Finding out myself would take too much time and energy that I have not to waste.”
For a couple of nerve-wrecking seconds, Strange silenced. Staring Loki down in a scrutinising manner, attempting to read in his wicked blue eyes what side he was on. He decided quickly that he really did not know what had occurred after his fake death.
“I don’t know yet. Valkyrie never made it on the Arc. She stayed behind with (Y/N).”
Loki’s face fell. At the mention of your name he flinched, barely, shockwaves of fear and concern cursing through his entire body. If you had stayed in the village when Thanos attacked him… you had either witnessed his seemingly gruesome fate or gotten killed in the explosion. One possibility was more dreadful than the other, for both would have had you suffer unbearable pain he knew he was the reason for.
You finding out about his coup to fake his death yet again had never been part of the plan. He would have sought you after all the threats Thanos had caused had been eliminated, reunited with you and gifted you that happy ending he had always promised you in your sleep.
“She is alive.” Strange finally added, watching curiously how he breathed out audibly.
“And where is she now?”
“With Thor, somewhere in space, I’ve been trying to track them.” With his brother, she was at least somewhat safe. He knew that if something happened to her, Thor knew to expect a blood bath. Never before had he held anything so dear in his life, not even when Frigga was still alive.
“What about Banner?” He choked out.
“He is downstairs with Tony Stark. He will not be happy to see you.”
Loki snorted. “That feeling is mutual. No. Thanos believes I am dead and so does everyone else and I would appreciate if it remained this way until Thor kills him.”
“Thor? You think Thor will kill him?” Strange interrupted. Suspicion and distrust crawled up his spine, his body language betrayed him.
“My brother is a lot more powerful than you give him credit for.” And he was in a rage. Because of Heimdall—and because of him. He silently cursed himself. Of course his oaf of a brother would not take the hints and comprehend the hints he had provided him with.
“And what about (Y/N)?”
In an instant, Loki’s arrogant and superior gaze faltered again, his composed expression replaced by sudden sadness.
“Tell her nothing. Not yet. She will put herself in danger if she learns I am still alive and try everything in her power to go looking for me. She is stubborn.”
“You love her.” Strange stated simply.
The God of Mischief gritted his teeth. Yes. Yes, he did, with all his heart. It had been terrible to leave her behind like this but what business was that of his? “Now, are you going to help me or not?”
The sorcerer tilted his head. “Alright…” he started slowly. “Let us hear your plan.”
“The Tesseract is an undying energy source, nothing has changed about that. You tell Stark that if he clones the electromagnetic particles inside the stone, he can, with a little help of the princess of Wakanda, manifest them to a consistent object.”
He hated this kind of science talk. The words lay heavy on his tongue, yet fortunately, they were not his own. They were Stark’s. It was complicated.
“Let him know his Binarily Augmented Retro-Framing system and a man the size of an ant provided him with the information. He will understand, in time.”
The sorcerer frowned. “That is all?”
“This is vital knowledge he must receive immediately.” Loki hissed. “In the meantime, I shall be going to Jötunheim.”
“Hiding in a different realm will not stop Thanos from finding you if he succeeds.”
The God of Mischief rolled his eyes. “I have much more meaningful business on Jötunheim. Thor will need all the help he can get. I am the Frost Giants’ rightful king and I shall return with an army.”
Strange had to admit, Loki’s idea was promising—and pretty much their only hope. “And how exactly do you intend to do that? My portals cannot send you to a different realm.”
The God of Mischief smirked. “With this.” The sorcerer gasped the moment the brightly, blue shining Tesseract appeared in his palm.
“You had it all along.”
Loki nodded triumphantly.
“If you have the real stone… then what does Thanos have?”
“That, sorcerer, is a question you should probably ask your new friends. Tell no one I am alive.” And with that, he dissolved, a green shimmer of light announcing his magical departure only seconds before Ebony Maw arrived on Earth to demand the remaining Infinity Stones.
Travelling by Tesseract wasn’t exactly the most pleasant way to move between worlds. It was draining and exhausting, costing Loki a lot of energy he desperately needed to reunite with his brother and much more importantly, to get you to safety as fast as possible.
He could not make any mistakes—not that he ever had, of course, still, he needed to be extra careful about his word choice today. Especially in a place like this.
To say he had missed the planet he had been born on would be an atrocious lie. He knew now how was resistant to the cold, the ice and the snow around him barely affected his Jötun body. The frost-bitten air wrapped around his limbs as he strolled towards the ice palace Laufey had resided in, dark boots trampling through the ankle-high snow on the frozen ground.
His breath was visible before his eyes, white clouds evaporating with every step that he took closer to the species his adoptive father had taught him to fear.
“You…” A deep voice growled. Loki turned, already expecting to see one of the Frost Giants materialise sharp icicles that would pierce through his armour like steel.
“I must admit, I anticipated a little more joy upon my return.” He began with an arrogant smirk.
“What do you want?”
They had no desire to kill him—not just yet. No one travelled to Jötunheim just to ride a sleigh or make snow angels on the cold ground. There was always a purpose; and ever since their kingdom had fallen, they were desperate for every visitor who promised them a new reign and the revival of their bleak realm.
It was risky. If they took the lead or gained the upper hand, Midgard would be all but lost.
“I come with an offer you will not be able to dismiss.” He began confidently.
“Go on…” More Frost Giants appeared from behind icy walls, weapons at the ready.
“Our universe like we know it is in danger. Thanos, the last survivor of Titan, is attempting to accomplish what no one has ever accomplished before him. By wielding the Infinity Gauntlet and collecting all six Infinity Stones, he can wipe out half of the universe… including your race.”
“What business is that of ours?”
“I believe you did not listen,” Loki growled darkly. “If Thanos succeeds, half of you will be dead. Do you truly think you could deal with another loss? This place is already a pathetic excuse for a realm. You have no purpose, you have no king and you have no power. I intend to give you all of it.”
“A king?” The Frost Giants stepped closer. Anger was radiating off of them as they circled Loki. He looked small compared to them, despite his wit and obvious superiority. “What makes you think we would want an Asgardian to rule over Jötunheim?”
“Laufey had a son, did he not?” He began quietly. The Frost Giants had never known it was him who had killed his predecessor, his birth father. After Laufey’s defeat on Asgard, they had fallen, powerless without a skilled ruler and helpless without the casket.
He did not have it. It had been destroyed during Ragnarok, however, all of this was information he would wickedly withhold from them.
Swallowing thickly, Loki took a deep breath and embraced the cold around him like an old friend. It clung to his limbs like liquid metal, turning his skin blue and his eyes red. The Frost Giants took a step back, both shocked and flabbergasted at what they saw.
“I was taken from Odin the very same night your weapon was stolen from you. He raised me as his own, preparing me to one day claim the throne of Asgard. It was too late for Laufey when I found out about my true heritage, my destiny.” He lied, looking the Frost Giant he was speaking to dead in the eye. “I, Loki Laufeyson, God of Mischief and Lies, am your rightful king… and I will lead you in a glorious battle.”
A/N: You didn’t think I would actually kill him, right?! COME ON.

(MCU) Loki Laufeyson/Odinson Character History and Analysis
(WARNING: Contains spoilers from Thor, The Avengers, Thor: The Dark World, Thor: Ragnarok, and The Avengers: Infinity War. Additionally, this is SUPER LONG.
Word Count: 3,795
Some people may view Loki as simply a black and white character in terms of morality. Some may say he's "selfish" or "power hungry" or "evil" or even "uncaring". Some directors may even falsely attribute ideas of being "a spoiled rich kid" or "over dramatic" or having been "trying to kill his brother his whole life" to Loki. But these couldn't be further from the truth. Throughout the Thor franchise (much more diluted in the 3rd Thor thanks to the bias and lack of care or sensitivity from one particular director) and within his appearances in the Avengers films, we see Loki display a wide range of emotion and multi-layered complexity. He struggles with depression, PTSD, extreme fear of failure, being an outcast, and utter brokenness of one's self. Loki is a multifaceted character who has had an immense growth over his years on the screen and allusions to experiences in the past. Loki is not just an "evil", "two-dimensional", "boring", "selfish", "Draco Malfoy-esque" (no offense Draco, I love you too, but this ain't about you), character. He is so much more.
He’s a broken and desperate man who only wanted recognition from his father. This drove him to sabotaging Thor’s coronation to give him more time to prove himself. But when he found out his true parentage, he was broken. Suddenly, in his mind, everything made sense as to why Odin favored Thor over him; not only was he not truly the son of Odin, but he was a “monster”.
Suddenly, the stakes are raised as he feels like he know has to try even harder than before. He goes from making calm and calculated decisions to some desperate and reckless decisions. Thor is out of the way, so he believes he already has a slight advantage. Unfortunately, Thor starts to cause a ruckus on earth. Loki is panicking. He sends the destroyer after him, to destroy him; something he has never done before. He has never gone this far before. He’s not himself anymore; the cumulation of years and years of being in his shadow, untrusted, not knowing why he can’t be equal with his brother (why caused him to do pranks and other mischievous things as, in his eyes, negative attention was better than no attention), all of this building up until it finally overflowed with the events of the first Thor movie finally putting him over the edge. And even then, when Thor is right there to quickly kill with a beam from the destroyer, Loki goes for the backhand. It could still kill him, yes, but emphasis on ‘could’. He is still angry and wanting Thor out of his way, but he can’t bring himself to just so easily get rid of him. Especially not after Thor’s speech to him.
When Thor manages to defeat the destroyer, Loki is thrust into his plan even quicker than before. Trick the frost giants, the Jötunns, the biggest enemy of Asgard at the time, into coming into the palace under the guise of being led to kill Odin. Of course it was never Loki’s intention to have them kill Odin. Even when Odin’s death could solidify his position on the throne; it Odin was killed, no one would be in Loki’s way to claim the throne forever, but the truth is, he didn’t want the throne. He only wanted to be Thor’s equal. So, within the presence of the All-Father in his All-Sleep, Loki killed Laufey. This not only proves that Loki could do what Thor could not, but it also is Loki’s way of showing Odin that he is nothing like the other Jötunns. Unfortunately for Loki’s plan, Thor manages to arrive just in time. Loki’s life is constantly breaking before him; now in front of his own mother, Frigga, the only one who Loki felt truly loved him and held him in the same standing as Thor, saw his plan fall apart.
Loki’s suddenly finding himself desperately fighting with Thor. Something not too new to him, he’s fought him and fought alongside him throughout their childhood and time growing up, but it’s never been like this. Loki needs to prove himself. He can’t let anything stop him no matter what. If he destroys Jötunnheim, Odin will finally accept him, right? But Thor is refusing to truly fight Loki. He doesn’t want to fight his brother. He wants things to go back to normal aside from Thor’s newfound perspective on life. Loki knows this about Thor and know that the only way to bring back the reckless Thor from before is to bring up the woman whom he sees as responsible for his brother going soft. Getting under Thor’s skin, their fight ensues. In the end, Loki gets pinned down by Mjølnir but sees he’s plan to destroy Jötunnheim unfolding. There’s nothing that can stop it.
But then... Thor does the unthinkable. He starts destroying the bifrost. Loki is shocked and immensely confused. Why would his brother be doing this? Why is he trying so hard to stop him and save Jötunnheim, even at the expense of never seeing Jane Foster again? Thor manages to succeed in destroying the bifrost, saving Jötunnheim from destruction. The brothers find themselves in a precarious situation as Loki is clinging onto All-Father’s spear, held by Thor, trying desperately not to fall into the collapsing bifrost. When it seems all is lost, none other than Odin shows up to save them. In a final, desperate act to prove himself to Odin, he proclaims “I could have done it, Father! I could have done it! For you! For all of us!” But what response does he get from Odin? Simply “No, Loki.” Suddenly, Loki feels empty. Defeated. Pointless. He lets go. He falls into the collapsing bifrost expecting and accepting his certain fate of demise. But that wasn’t the last he’s heard of.
To Loki’s unfortunate luck, he falls into the grasp of the Mad Titan, Thanos. Promised power and a planet to rule, Loki is equipped with the scepter containing the mind stone. Not much is known about what exactly occurs during Loki’s time with Thanos, but needless to say, it leaves him gaunt, weakened, exhausted, and appearing to have been burned. Loki is instructed to locate and obtain the Tesseract on earth and return it to Thanos. The Other reminds Loki of the consequences should he fail, “If you fail, if the Tesseract is kept from us, there will be no realm, no barren moon, no crevice where he can not find you. You think you know pain? He will make you long for something as sweet as pain.” Loki arrives on earth. More desperate than he’s ever been in his entire life. Furthermore, warped and twisted in the head. This scepter grants him dominion over the minds of others, just through slight contact on the chest.
Unbeknownst to Loki, the effects of the scepter are not limited to touch. It’s affecting him too. Amplifying Loki’s own desires to rise up and prove himself capable of ruling, capable of what his brother is supposed to be entrusted to do. This, combined with the threats and looming consequences that weigh on his mind drive him beyond himself. He’s no longer Loki Odinson. He’s Loki, and he his burdened with glorious purpose.
As the events of The Avengers (2012) unfold, we see glimpses into Loki’s mindset. We see him determined and twist looking. He’s enjoying it. He’s enjoying the attention and the recognition. He is feared. He is a force to be reckoned with. Everything is going to plan. There’s a group trying to come after him? Well that’s no biggie, he knows of the beast inside of Bruce banner. He’s confident he can take them down. Captured in Stuttgart, everything seems to be fixed in the eyes of the Avengers, but Loki knows otherwise. Of course his brother Thor has to pop by and pull him from the situation. We see Thor desperately pleading with Loki to come back home. But Asgard isn’t Loki’s home; not anymore. Thor manages to get under Loki’s skin a bit when he mentions that someone else must be controlling him. “Who showed you this power? Who controls the would-be-king?” Even Thor knows that this is beyond his brother, beyond what he would ever do in a normal headspace. What Thor saw of Loki in the first Thor shocked him as well. This is not the Loki he knows. When things seem to be escalating and Thor appears to be ready to start a lecture, Thor is sent flying form a tackle from Iron Man. Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America have a brief fight in the woods below Loki, all the while Loki waits. He waits; he doesn’t try to run, he’s waiting because he needs to follow through with his plan.
When the three avengers stop their fighting and come to a resolve, Loki finds himself being brought on board a massive helicarrier and locked into a secure cell. All according to plan. What he’s not aware of is the scepter having effects on the avengers while their conversation devolves into arguing; they too are affected by the scepter’s proximity based effects. Soon enough, he is visited by one Natasha Romanoff, surprisingly to him as she manages to approach without his knowing. But he knows all about her thanks to Clint Barton. He knows how to attack her weak points, he knows her past and her dark secrets. He’s reveling in the power he feels even within a cell. But when he thinks he’s fully gotten to her, she pauses. She knows his plan to use the Hulk... but how? Now he’s confused but also intrigued. He’s not too worried though as things are still going to plan. The Hulk is unleashed and Hawkeye follows through with the plan. Loki is able to send his brother Thor down from the sky after tricking him into the cell. This Loki does so without hesitation; he laughs at the prospect of his brother’s potential demise. This is not the Loki we knew. Loki makes his escape, losing Hawkeye in the process, and gets to Stark Tower to initiate the final phase of his plan.
Fast forward and the portal is opening. Of course, Thor stops by and crashes his moment. But not the way you might expect. Despite what Loki has done, Thor still approaches him with compassion and love and the desire for him to return home with him. He wants Loki to see what he’s done, he still has hope that this isn’t truly Loki or his desires.
Thor angrily chastises Loki, “Look at this! Look around you! You think this madness will end with your rule?”
Loki looks around, fear and shock within his eyes as if he can’t believe what he’s doing. He simply responds, “It’s too late. It’s too late to stop it.”
Thor hopes this is his chance to bring Loki back. “No. We can, together.”
For a moment, it seems like Loki might come back, but he doesn’t. Any hope for himself he has in his eyes is squandered. He really believes he’s “come to far for anything else.” He’s still twisted from the scepter. His thoughts are only of his twisted desire for power and the overwhelming, looming threats of what would come if he fails. He stabs Thor, but not anywhere that could be fatal. He states one thing with an uncertain and wicked smile “sentiment.” He doesn’t stick around to try and kill him either. When Thor gets back up and tries to fight, Loki simply rolls off the edge of Stark tower to be caught by one of the Chituari vehicles. He’s got his eyes elsewhere, he’s not going to waste his time on Thor. He can’t risk the chance of Thor snapping him out of his plans.
Fast forward more, and he is eventually defeated. The raw, physical might of the Hulk is too much even for him. He’s failed. He’s been defeated. He could not deliver on his order from Thanos. Chained and muted by a muffle, Loki follows Thor to be brought back to Asgard for judgement. Something he can only assume to be his death.
Arriving in Asgard, Loki is marched to the All-Father’s throne. His mother Frigga watches from the side. Loki, pretty much numb at this point takes things less than seriously. He is lacking some sanity from before but not so much where he can’t comprehend what’s happening. Just so much to the point that he doesn’t care what happens, or so he thinks. Frigga begs Loki to not make things worse to which Loki retorts “Define worse.” Loki feels like he doesn’t really care since he expects death. He even asks Odin if that is what he will be sentenced to; Loki does so without seeming scared or sad but rather uncaring at his fate.
Odin states, “All this because Loki desires a throne.”
Loki defends himself, calling back to what Odin told him and Thor back when they were children. “It is my birthright!”
And Odin, showing his true colors and a fit of rage responds, “Your birthright was to die as a child! Cast out on a frozen rock. If I had not taken you in, you would not be here now to hate me.”
Loki is understandably taken aback by this. “If I am for the axe, then, for mercy's sake, just... swing it!”
But when Odin replies with what Loki truly will be sentenced to, Loki’s face changes. Not death, but eternal imprisonment. Eternal imprisonment away from everyone and Loki’s mother who he loves, Frigga. Loki is taken aback. He was content with dying. If he was dead, he would neither have to fear Thanos hunting him down nor feeling of emptiness and worthlessness. But instead of that sweet release, he is sentenced to living out the rest of his life, secluded from his mother but isolated with his own thoughts. This is a fate worse than death in his eyes, especially when you consider how long Asgardians live.
Over a year passes with Loki still in prison. A prison break occurs around him which piques his interest and mischievous nature. He clings to any idea that could provide him with a feeling of life outside of books. Seeing the apparent leader of the group, Loki informs him of the path to take that would lead him to Asgard’s shield generator. It’s uncertain what exactly Loki’s motives are for doing this, but it can be assumed it’s because of his desire to have any impact, to do something that will have an effect, to rile things up. He doesn’t know how truly dangerous these people are. He could easily think that they would be no match for the Asgardians and that he is simply causing a little trouble. Unbeknownst to Loki, these are powerful and dangerous Dark Elves... and his dear mother Frigga was in the path of the Kursed. Frigga dies protecting the location of Jane Foster.
After the matter, after the dark elves had been expelled, Loki, still in his cell, is approached by a guard. A guard; that’s who tells Loki of his mother’s death. No visit from Thor or Odin or even Sif and/or the Warriors Three... While Thor and Odin and the rest of Asgard gets to attend Frigga’s funeral and mourn her, Loki is left all alone in his cell to mourn alone. Distraught, broken again, angry at the Kursed and the Dark Elves, but especially angry with himself. Undoubtedly he feels guilt having been the one to, unintentionally, lead the Kursed directly to Frigga. Loki destroys his cell. He is shattered. The one person he felt true love from. Loki is utterly empty. The last thing he had left is gone, and he didn’t even get to say goodbye. Overwhelmed, he uses his magic to lash out, destroying the entire room. In an absolute rage, he rampaged throughout his little cell, not caring much in the process, even stepping on broken glass and cutting himself. Eventually, he collapsed onto the floor, exhausted, disheveled, and utterly broken.
When Thor comes for Loki’s aide, he finds Loki looking his usual self. Loki inquires if Thor is there to gloat, to which Thor, knowing his brother, tells Loki “no more illusions.” Loki drops the illusion, revealing the trashed state of his cell and himself. “Now you see me brother.” Loki asks if Frigga suffered, but Thor isn’t there to comfort Loki or share their grief. He instead implores Loki to assist him in going against Odin’s wishes to go to the dark world and stop Malekith. Of course this prompts Loki to ask Thor what makes him think he can trust him, to which Thor replies, “I don't. Mother did. You should know that when we fought each other in the past, I did so with a glimmer of hope that my brother was still in there somewhere. That hope no longer exists to protect you. You betray me, and I will kill you.” Thor is desperate. He’s angry. He’s scared. He’s lost his mom, Jane is in danger, and as far as he’s aware or concerned, he’s lost Loki to the darkness. But he can’t let that stop him now. He needs Loki. He needs someone who has tricks and knowledge of Asgard to help him escape.
Loki ventures with Thor to the dark world, showing him the way (with brotherly banter in between). Loki muses Thors attachment to Jane, a mere mortal. Loki can’t understand why a powerful godlike being such as Thor could grow enamored with someone who will die long before he will. “This day, the next, a hundred years, it's nothing! It's a heartbeat. You'll never be ready. The only woman whose love you prized will be snatched from you.”
Thor is of course angry with this response as (at least at the time... thanks Taika...) he loves Jane, “And will that satisfy you?”
Loki only has to say, “Satisfaction's not in my nature!” This line alone gives us so much insight to Loki, much more than it may seem from surface value. Loki isn’t doing this for self satisfaction. He’s never satisfied, because he’s never been allowed to be. Until he can be equal with Thor, he doesn’t care. Loki appears selfish here, he embodies a persona of self confidence and defiance; as someone who only cares for himself. But this is far from the truth.
We see Loki appear to betray Thor as he cuts off his hand and stabs him before kicking him and sending him down a hill. He then roughly grabs Jane and throws her to the ground in front of Malekith. To the surprise of the audience and Jane, this was all part of Loki and Thor’s plan. Having Malekith off guard, Loki allows Thor to attack. Loki, against what appeared to be his nature a bit ago based on what he said, he immediately rushes to Jane to protect her. Twice. Once to cover her, the second to push her out of the way of one of the Kursed’s attacks that would have killed him if Thor hadn’t managed to get him out of the way last minute. The fight continues and Thor is beaten down and about to be finished off before Loki jumps to his rescue, stabbing the attacking Kursed. Unfortunately for Loki, he was too confident in this attack and the Kursed had enough energy left in him to impale him onto the other end of the blade Loki used to stab him. Loki appears to be dying. He fully expected to. Loki genuinely apologizes to Thor for what he’s done, calling himself a fool.Thor mourns and cries out, promising Loki “I'll tell Father what you did here today.” Loki’s apparent final words are “I didn’t do it for him.” This could be interpreted as Loki doing it for Frigga, Thor, or even himself. This time, Loki didn’t do it for Odin’s approval or recognition. He’s fine dying here. He’s done his part. I personally believe he did it for a mixture of all three of them.
Thor believes Loki to be dead and leaves, heartbroken and mournful, losing his mom and then his brother. Loki, however, did not die. His wound, will appearing to be fatal, did not kill him. It was not enough for a being such as him. He recovers in time and makes his way back to Asgard. Having survived, he has a newfound resolve. He’s done doing things for Odin. He’s going to do something for himself. To prove to himself and the others. Using powerful magic, Loki banishes Odin, the All-Father, guardian of the nine realms, to earth. He clouds Odins memories and leaves him (either in a care home or as a homeless man depending on which you accept as canon in Ragnarök). Loki assumes Odin’s identity as king of Asgard, the All-Father. Eventually, Thor comes to him, believing him to be Odin. He hears Thor honor Loki, giving Loki the praise he always wanted to hear. Loki, as Odin, encourages Thor to keep mjølnir as it belongs to him, and to go on as he wishes as Thor does not desire the throne. Thor thanks Odin and leaves. Loki, returning to his true form, thanks the absent Thor.
Loki rules over Asgard for four years. He avoids any issues, no conflict with other realms, no damage or anything. He enjoys his time in the light, even if others believe him to be Odin.
Then one day, Thor returns. Ragnarok unfolds. Loki finds himself torn between helping Thor or not and keeping himself safe, but ultimately decides to join Thor and fighting to protect the people of Asgard, risking his own life in the process, nabbing the tesseract on his way (c’mon... what’d you expect?). Loki seems content with himself and Thor as king of Asgard. Loki no longer worries about meeting Odin’s expectations, he just needs to meet his own.
Unfortunately, good things don’t last forever. Thanos has finally found Loki. Loki can decide to join Thanos, granting him safety, or to stand by Thor and his people. He chooses the latter. He stands up for Thor. He accepts himself as a Jötunn, but also as an Odinson. He promises Thor, “I assure you, brother, the sun will shine on us again.” He makes a desperate attempt at Thanos, one that fails. Loki dies, choked out by Thanos. His final words, an insult to Thanos but also a self aware reflection for Loki himself, “You will never be a god.” Loki saves Thor’s life by giving his own. Loki died a hero.

Welcome to Asgard [Stronger #1]
Tumblr media
Stefan and I ended up in a strange place. Not long after we landed, a herd of medieval-looking guards apprehended us. When they first tried to separate us, I went crazy. My adrenaline rushed and I was hyper aware of what was happening.
This ability, so to speak, was one that I had before my powers started coming in before my twentieth birthday and something that I was still trying to master. It was used to incapacitate the guards and take Stefan back.
I was slightly disoriented when time seemed to resume it’s normal pace but only for a brief moment. I used one of the ropes from one of the other horses to keep Stefan secured to me at all times. I grab my shield and tied that to my back as well before climbing onto a random horse and taking off.
I’ve never actually ridden a horse before, so I was pleasantly surprised that I managed to pick up on it so easily. The horse continued to trot along, to where I knew not. I didn’t even know where we were and therefore wasn’t in tune to our surroundings.
Which is exactly why we were caught.
More guards surrounded us and I said as long as nobody touched me, or tried to take Stefan from me, I would come willingly. One man took the horse’s reins and led us through the forest for a few minutes.
When we emerged from the forest, I was dumbstruck upon seeing an oddly shaped structure set in the middle of a glorious city. The shock only grew as I took in the beautiful sky.
Bucky would probably love this, being the science-geek he was.
Okay, so that big yellow circle is the sun, I believe. Then, that’s the moon on the other side? Wherever we were, I was now certain that we weren’t on Earth anymore.
Only when I look at my baby, did I take in his silence. I could see he was sound asleep and let out a relieved breathe. As long as he was safe, I would be fine.
The guards continued on their trek, leading us to the odd palace.
It was there, on trial, I realized we were doomed.
The King of Asgard, which is I assume where we were, Odin, was informed of my sudden appearance and brought me here because he assumed I was a threat.
What kind of threat? He thought I was there to kill his first-born son Thor Odinson, and if not him, then Odin himself.
I didn’t watch my tone as I alerted to everyone in the courtroom – even though there was only a handful of people – that I had no intentions of murdering anyone. Without being asked, I told the story of how I was sent here in the first place and that if I could be sent back to Earth soon then I’d be thankful.
The Allfather thought nothing of my story, and thought it a ruse. He sentenced me to life in prison and said that Stefan would be returned to Midgard, Earth, because he was innocent to my crimes.
Objections from three people in the room – who I later learned to be Odin’s wife Frigga and their sons Thor and Loki – spared me from my fate by declaring I was innocent until proven guilty. After a short while, a man named Heimdall appeared in court and proved my story to be true.
Odin didn’t seem too pleased by this, but nonetheless released me before calling the court to close. Everyone, with the exception of Frigga, left me where I was. She welcomed me to Asgard and smiled at my baby before escorting me to the room I would be staying in for an indefinite amount of time.
Not too long after that, I properly met Thor and Loki – my other saviors – and we soon became friends, though I found myself getting closer to Loki. He was to me as Howard was; only he was a little more involved as he took a great liking to Stefan whereas Thor thought Stefan was still too young to be of interest for a great period of time.
The things that shocked me the most about being in Asgard were the Golden Apples of Idunn; Thor and Loki told me that they were what allowed them to live as long as they do. I was allowed to eat them but the sons of Odin were eager to watch Stefan grow and therefore he wasn’t allowed to eat them until he was about 15, though he opted to refrain from eating them until he was 20 years old in Midgard years.
Stefan, as he grew, began to show a temperament similar to both Bucky’s and mine combined. This, along with the fact that he was growing up in the palace, meant he was taught to be a warrior. He became an official guard of Asgard after spending an additional 10 Midgard years training with Thor, Loki, and the Warriors Three.
Loki also spent more time with us after he found out that my abilities, and Stefan’s after turning 20, came from Oerlin – though it was Thor who gave us an interesting history lesson on the planet and how a Titan destroyed it not long ago. The new information caused additional powers to manifest in both Stefan and me as we realized we were part, no matter how small, of an endangered species.
Our friends all wanted to know the extent of our powers but since Stefan and I were still trying to learn them we couldn’t give them a straight answer yet. They all helped turn us into strong warriors for Asgard. Our lives seemed perfect.
But of course, nothing lasts forever.
The time came for one of the sons of Odin to ascend to the throne of Asgard, and as Loki figured, Thor was chosen. I should’ve known then that he was up to something by the way he slowly started pushing Stefan and I away. Figuring he was going through something similar to a midlife crisis, I let him have his space while advising Stefan to do the same.
On the day of the ceremony, Stefan and I attended the party dressed to the nines. Ladies presented themselves to my son whilst Loki and I supervised. When the time for the actual ceremony came, Loki excused himself and I chased away the girls surrounding my son and we went to stand by Frigga.
Just before the Allfather could declare Thor as King, he stopped. Sensing danger, Stefan told me to stay with Frigga before leaving with Loki to see where Odin set off to so quickly.
Later in the day, Stefan came to my chambers and alerted me that Frost Giants managed to break in, hoping to retrieve the Casket of the Ancient Winters. Thor, upset with the Allfather’s wishes to remain neutral, convinced Loki, Sif, and the Warriors Three to accompany him to confront Laufey at the Jotunheim about what happened today. Stefan was going because he wanted to make sure everyone returned safely, and to ask me if I wanted to accompany them.
“As if there’d be any other answer,” I responded before grabbing my vibranium shield and a sword gifted to me by the sons of Odin. Stefan and I then rushed to meet the others.
The land of the Frost Giants was dark and very cold, and I kept scanning our surrounding area whilst Thor spoke to Laufey about the events that occurred earlier in the day. Their conversation ended with Laufey advising us to leave “while he still allowed it”.
We would’ve left, had Laufey not insulted Thor. The God of Thunder started the fight by using his hammer to knock Laufey back and away. This caused the Frost Giants to attack, and our group, small but powerful, returned the fight. I mainly shielded myself and tried to make sure that the people in our group didn’t get hurt too badly.
 “Don’t let them touch you!”
There was so much happening at once and Fandral was wounded.
“Oh, my… Fandral!” I yell and run over to him. I jump over, slide under, and slice any giant in my way. Loki used his magic to discard of the remaining giant near Fandral before I finally arrived and used my healing power to, at the very least, stop him from bleeding out.
“We don’t have a lot of time,” Sif yelled.
“I’ll be quick!” I promised. I pressed my hand against Fandral’s chest, and imagined his skin closing, watching as his skin came together.
 “Run!”
I looked up in surprise to see a giant creature running towards us.
“Take him,” I said to Hogun and Volstagg. “He’s not healed but he’s not gonna bleed out! Stefan, go!”
The seven of us, without Thor, all started running away with the creature quickly closing the distance. Somehow we managed to make it to where we arrived, with Volstagg calling for Heimdall to open the Bifröst Bridge though nothing happened.
A moment passed and suddenly the creature appeared in front of us. I turned around to see if there was anywhere else we could go only to see Frost Giants approaching us.
My grip on my sword and shield got tighter when I saw Thor flying overhead, and I watched him go through the creature’s mouth and killing it.
“Well that solves one problem,” I spoke out loud and the group turned around as well to see the approaching giants. We were about to be overpowered, and most likely killed, when Odin swooped in and saved us.
After returning to Asgard Odin ordered everyone but his sons out of sight. Sif, Hogun and Volstagg left to take Fandral to a healer while Stefan advised me to return to my room stating that he was going to wait for his uncles.
Supposedly, after a while, Loki told Stefan that Odin stripped Thor of his power and exiled him to Earth, to live as a mortal. He also sent Thor’s hammer Mjolnir to Earth, and only the worthy would be allowed to wield it.
Shortly afterwards, Odin fell into a deep Odinsleep, and Frigga feared he wouldn’t wake up again. Loki then assumed the role of King of Asgard and asked Stefan and I to be his personal guards – something we accepted. As such, we were there to witness Loki kill Laufey, who was trying to kill Odin. I wasn’t completely sure how the Frost Giant got there in the first place but Stefan and I both supported Loki when he said that Jotunheim needed to be destroyed.
The return of Thor with Mjolnir was a definite surprise. In order to stop the desolation of Jotunheim, Thor started destroying the Bifröst Bridge, which caused Loki to attack him. Stefan and I didn’t know what to do as we loved Thor and Loki equally and so we watched the brothers’ fight, hoping that nobody got seriously hurt. He stood on one side and I stood on the other. The fight ended once Thor rested his hammer on Loki, keeping him in place.
Stefan kneeled by Loki, but didn’t dare try to remove Thor’s hammer, and began speaking to him whilst I remained where I stood, trying to convince Thor that destroying the Bifröst Bridge was going to do more harm than good, something he denied.
“This is genocide,” he yelled and raised a hand, summoning his hammer. I watched as he hit the bridge several times.
Loki scrambled to get up, and yelling various things at Thor to try to stop him from destroying the bridge but I realized that Thor was right to do so and so I used my magic to keep Loki and Stefan where they were while Thor continued to break the bridge.
“What are you doing? Stop him!” Loki yelled.
“It needs to be done,” I yelled back and saw that Thor was almost finished. With one more hit, the bridge shattered and half of the bridge – the half I was standing on – suddenly flew away from Asgard and into a wormhole.
When I was pulled away with the rubble, my hold on Loki and Stefan let up and both immediately jumped over the bridge. Thor jumped after them and caught Stefan’s foot and Stefan caught Loki’s. I was scared that we’d all get lost in space, until I saw Odin take hold of Thor, keeping them all anchored to the remainder of the bridge.
“I’m sorry!” I yelled, unsure if they could hear me. “Please, take care of my son!”
The last thing I saw before my vision started fading was Loki drifting in my direction, and I closed my eyes praying that I would get lucky a second time and see my friends again.

Ok, this has been bothering me for a while and I really like your meta so I was wondering what your thoughts on this might be. Sorry if this ends up being super long.
First off, I want to point out that I’m not a Loki apologist insofar as I think that his actions can be justified or excused, but I do think that they can be understood in their context.
Ok, so the people who excoriate Loki for his behavior specifically relating to the Frost Giants and his invasion of New York really irk me, and it took me a long time to be able to pinpoint why. And I think it’s this- they’re judging Loki by human standards. And that makes no sense because he is many things, but human is not one of them.
I’ll start with the Frost Giants, and I’ll preface this with the fact that genocide is horrific (and that’s an understatement). And while it does not come close to justifying his actions, it is important to remember that the Aesir stopped the attempted Jotun genocide of multiple realms and peoples including Asgard/the Aesir and Midgard/humanity. (Obviously the Jotuns had more success on Midgard than Asgard itself.) And I do mean genocide here rather than just conquering because terraforming various realms into frozen wastelands (as they were trying to do with the Casket of Ancient Winters) would kill both humanity (who are incapable of travelling to a different realm) and the Aesir (unless they, in turn, conquer another realm and even then that would suppose that the Jotuns stopped their terraforming with Midgard and Asgard). The resulting lack of agriculture and the collapse of every ecosystem would wipe basically everything out. This establishes the Jotuns as genocidally minded themselves.
Again, this doesn’t justify Loki’s behavior, but it does explain why the Aesir are raised to hate or at least look very suspiciously upon the Frost Giants.
Now consider that the Jotuns have indicated that, given the opportunity, they are ready and willing to reignite conflict. They not only try to steal the casket, but Laufey attempts to murder Odin when he’s in such a position that he cannot possibly defend himself. (The fight between the Jotuns and Thor, Loki, and the Warriors Three is a different situation altogether. That’s more of a bar brawl than anything else.)
Yes, Loki provided those opportunities to the Jotuns. You cannot overlook his involvement in this; however, the Jotuns clearly indicated that they are not past their desire to use the casket to regain political and military power and neither are they above taking revenge on the Aesir for stopping their own genocidal campaign.
Consider the ramifications of both stealing the casket and murdering Odin; had they been successful the Jotuns would have thrown both Asgard itself and the political/military situation of Asgard and the realms it ruled or protected into chaos. The Jotuns are not innocent victims in this situation either historically or *even at the time Thor takes place*. In fact, they are enemy combatants at the time of Thor’s coronation and thereafter.
Once more for the people in the back- this does not justify Loki’s attempt to literally destroy Jotunheim and the entirety of the Jotun population.
It does raise a serious question, though. Loki is not stupid or one to really be controlled by his emotions (influenced by, yes; controlled, no). So why with his extensive training in both politics and military affairs would he think that attempted genocide would be acceptable and even celebrated?
Odin did not, as far as we know, commit genocide himself at any point. I suspect that Odin did not destroy Jotunheim and the Frost Giants because they were clearly defeated and with the casket confiscated they presented no substantial threat. Wiping them out would be a serious breach of ethics and violate the warrior code of Asgard. Where is the honor in destroying a weak, already defeated enemy?
This is why it was important for Loki to goad the Jotuns into reigniting the war. It restores honor to the fighting because to the rest of Asgard it appears as though they have been attacked and it was unprovoked. This reopens the acceptability of open conflict between the two realms and peoples.
Now, this is where things get sticky.
Genocide is acceptable under certain circumstances within the MCU’s Aesir culture.
This is established in The Dark World. Bor did not completely wipe out the Dark Elves, but he thought he had. This destruction is lauded in Asgard. Bor, hailed as a great king, stopped the Dark Elves from destroying creation and in so doing ostensibly wiped them out completely. Not “left the non-combatants alive on Alfheim”- the attack on Asgard after the Aether reappears is the first indication the Aesir have that there are any Dark Elves left. This indicates that there are times when genocide carried out against military enemies is acceptable to these people.
Which means there is cultural and military precedent for Loki’s behavior.
Now, again, consider that the Jotuns have in the past behaved genocidally and have indicated that they are willing to head down that path again by trying to steal the casket and murder Odin. They have aggressed against the Aesir reopening the war. Admittedly it had not progressed far, but conflict was reestablished.
Again, this doesn’t justify Loki’s attempt at genocide. Genocide should not be acceptable under any circumstances as far as humanity is concerned (I won’t get into the politics of whether or not it actually is because I don’t have time to write a dissertation, but I will say that people’s “outrage” about the Khmer Rouge, Mao’s revolution, Stalin’s starvation of the Ukrainians, the continued situation in South Sudan, the Hutus and Tutsis, the Ottomans/Turkey and the Armenians, and recent resurgence of white supremacy in the US indicate that people, broadly, don’t actually care a whole hell of a lot about genocide in practice and reality).
But it does show that Loki’s behavior *was not out of the norm* within Asgardian society and there was *established precedent* for him doing it.
Now, as far as the invasion of New York goes, let me first say that as a human myself, I don’t like it. He killed hundreds, if not thousands of people that day and doomed thousands more to die of illnesses related to the attack in the following years.
But, again, putting his actions into context indicates that his invasion with the Chitauri is not problematic in as much as it targeted humanity. Midgardians are less than in Aesir society. This is clear in Loki’s commentary at the beginning of The Dark World. Hell, he blatantly says he thinks he’s better than us in Avengers. And it’s clear in Odin’s commentary about Jane being equivalent to a goat that he holds no love of humanity. It’s even clear in Thor’s protection of the realm; that in itself is patronizing. Midgard isn’t capable of sufficiently protecting itself, so he swears that he will step up and do it. It’s not that Thor is ill intentioned in doing so, but that he feels the need to do it fairly clearly indicates that the Aesir as a whole consider Midgardians to be lesser beings.
So it’s not that Loki’s attack on New York was a problem because it killed people. After all, as Loki says to Thor, ‘the humans slaughter themselves in droves, while you idly fret.’ Humans are murdering each other all the time and Thor makes no move to stop it. It’s not the human deaths that are a problem.
The issue here is that Loki’s behavior violates two things: the honor code of not attacking a weak/defeated enemy incapable of sufficiently defending itself (see above commentary on the defeated Frost Giants and Odin and Thor’s drive to protect humanity where it cannot protect itself) and the precedent established by both Odin and Thor to protect Midgard.
Allow me to digress for a moment here and expand on an issue with Odin before I get to my ultimate point.
Loki’s attempt at genocide and his invasion of New York are why he gets punished. But it’s not because he tried to kill the Jotuns and it’s not because he killed people. Loki (in Norse mythology) is a master as putting the other gods in their place and reminding them they are not infallible. And, beautifully, he is in the MCU, too. And *that’s* why Odin punishes him.
Loki showed Odin that he was wrong to believe that Thor was ready for the throne. Loki showed Odin that he was wrong to believe that the Frost Giants were no longer a tangible threat. Loki showed Odin *and* Thor they were wrong to believe humanity needed their protection (after all, it was the Council that ultimately actually stopped the invasion by sending the nuke that Tony steered to destroy the Chitauri mother ship).
And so despite the precedent in their culture that says genocide is ok sometimes and despite the fact that Odin also thinks that humans are weak and inferior to the Aesir, Loki had to be punished. But Odin couldn’t say that he was punishing Loki for embarrassing him, which is the only thing he really did wrong as far as the society in which he was raised is concerned.
Now, as far as people judging Loki by human standards go, it’s pretty clear that the reason that they look down on Loki’s behavior is that it violates our own social codes. If you look at sci-fi and fantasy it’s clear that as a species we really believe in human exceptionalism. We’re conceited and think of ourselves as the center of the universe. Again, it was the Council and Tony Stark using a human invention that stopped a massive invasion of technologically superior aliens from conquering Earth. Even in Dr. Strange, it’s a human that outwits an ancient, hugely powerful alien in order in order to control the fate of the planet. Even Peter Quill is half human as he gallivants and ultimately works to save the galaxy. It all centers on Earth and on humans.
As such, we take offense to people thinking of us as inferior.
But I wonder why people don’t often consider the fact that we behave the same way towards other life even here on the planet as the Aesir do with us. With the exception of some vegetarians, vegans, and a few religious and philosophical sects (like Jainism and some Buddhists) we have no qualms about killing animals- that we view as *less than* humans- when it suits our needs. We do it for food, we do it for supplies (like we did/do for whale oil and leather) and we do it for convenience (like when we kill mice or chipmunks or raccoons who get in the trash). We even do it and say it’s for their benefit like when we “thin the herd for its health”.  For the most part, we as a species have no problems disregarding the will and lives of those beings we perceive as being less than us. Why would beings more powerful, intelligent, and technologically advanced than us feel differently?
I suspect that the problem these people have with Loki’s behavior re: the Invasion of New York and the resulting carnage is that it ultimately violates their perception (that is reinforced by society) that humans and humanity are the best. He transgressed by challenging that human maxim.
And I feel that the problem that people have with his attempted genocide, while well founded, is hypocritical. They will hold up his *fictional* attempt at genocide that stems from a place where that genocide would be culturally and militarily acceptable (if distasteful) as horrific while turning a blind eye to *real* and *actual* genocides that have happened and some that are ongoing in and around cultures and societies where it is *not* supposed to be acceptable. They hold his behavior to their theoretical standard of behavior (and not the standard that’s actually allowed in practice).
And none of this takes into consideration the emotional, mental, and physical trauma that Loki experiences across these films which colors his behavior and adds deeper nuance to what he’s doing. Even without that, though, the way he behaves is totally within the realm of acceptable behavior for the society in which he was raised with the exception of challenging and embarrassing Odin, which is what he’s ultimately punished for (and is why his punishment is so very personal).
And that’s the story of how I wrote 2000+ words about the Loki’s behavior in the MCU and fan reaction rather than working on my thesis.
I want to SINCERELY APOLOGIZE for never answering this, because for the past year my life has been very much in transition, but tonight I’m trying to empty my inbox and I found this profoundly elaborate, thoughtful meta in my submissions.
I haven’t read it fully yet, but when I do I will try to offer comments and feedback. It sounds like you and I have a great number of theories about this character in common already, but I want to read closely for nuance.
For now I am posting it so that people can see the integrity of your work publicized! <3333

Part 55 - Tempered and a Plan
Tumblr media
To say that Loki was utterly confused was an understatement. You led Loki to the vault, the guards let you both through. He didn't stop to follow you, but still he was totally confused as to why you and him were in there.
"In the Nine Realms existed a dark time. A very dark time. As Odin had Hela as his weapon and personal executioner, no one was ever safe from her. Odin gave Hela her own little army of guards as they stormed all the Nine Realms. These dead warriors got honored and buried deep bellow this very Palace. Did you know, Loki ?", you told him.
He stared at you in shock.
"I did not.", he answered.
"I was there as they got honored here. Not every memory I had was correct. Some were...tempered with. As I got my oldest memories back, the spell broke off and I remember clearly. Still not everything is clear and back, but most. Do you remember the memory of Bor and little Odin ? And most importantly the Golden Palace ?"
"I do. It is not that long ago, that I saw them with Mother and you.", he answered.
"The Golden Palace didn't exist.", you told him.
Loki's head snapped to you in utter shock.
"What ?"
"The Golden Palace. As Bor lived...it didn't exist. It was a normal Palace, made of stone and wood. Bor called that Palace 'The Cold Heart'. He called it like that, because the wood and stones were dark. It was almost black. It gave a dark cold welcome to everything and everyone. Still...I loved that Palace. It is now abandoned. Odin built the Golden Freak show."
"What are you trying to tell me here ?"
"History, Loki. History. Odin hated Cold Heart. Not because it was uncomfortable for him and Frigga, but because he had bad memories in there. Odin...he...he is not what he seems to be. Bor never gave Odin the throne. Odin took it from the rightful King of Asgard and then told lies about him."
"What....?"
"Odin never showed you emotion, because you carry his dead brother's name. Loki. L - O - K - I. There was a Loki before you. That Loki was known as the God of Fire. He was part Frost Giant, part Asir and part Fire Giant. He made truce between these 3 Realms as he was 516 years old. He made peace and there was never war. Loki Borson was the first born of Bor and half blood brother of Odin."
Loki just stared at you in utter shock.
"What happened to Loki Borson ?"
"Odin killed him off.", you answered him simply.
He looked at you in horror.
"Loki had a brother, called Baldr. Baldr was very handsome and an undefeated warrior. He could get stabbed in the heart with a sword and he didn't die. I saw it. One day they tried to hurt him with flowers and the Mistletoe was hurting him badly. Bor instantly broke up the fights and brought Baldr to the healing wing. Loki was worried and Odin looked at Baldr emotionless."
Then you both stopped at one empty spot in the vault and you leaned on the walls with your left shoulder. Loki stood there and listened.
"Odin never showed emotion, if one of his brothers got hurt. Soon Loki and Baldr were of age for the throne, but none wanted it. Bor already chose tho. He chose Loki. Loki was wise, intelligent, sly, clever, protective, caring and strong in his mind. He was something special and far more worthy than just the throne of Asgard. Loki accepted, for his Father, to take the throne and try to be a good King. He said he makes no promises tho and if he fucks up, he will give it back to Bor. They agreed to that."
You tapped your fingers on your right arm.
"Loki did well. The Nine Realms were happy with the new King. Everything went great. Exchanges of foods and drinks, like valuables and all that stuff from all the Nine Realms. The exportations and the help was perfect too. If Jotunheim needed help, Loki instantly helped. If Midgard needed help, he also did instantly. No Realm was abandoned to all their own devices. Loki was a great King and he would still be...if the sudden tragedies wouldn't have happened..."
Loki looked at you in confusion and worry.
"What tragedies ?"
"....I saw telling Odin that Bor died and he wanted to have a funeral...That is wrong. That memory was tempered. I told Loki that he got killed. Loki set the funeral up the next few days and was in mourning. Baldr did the same, but Odin ? Odin wasn't even present. No one knew where he was. Loki and Baldr were thinking that Odin mourned in a different way and couldn't handle the pain. But he didn't mourn at all."
"What did he do then ?"
"He smiled. He was the one who killed Bor."
"Wait ! You had the memory that you did it tho !"
"Tempered, Loki. My memories were tempered."
He stared at you in utter shock and horror.
"Loki wanted to give up the throne, to Baldr. Baldr agreed that he will take over for him, until Loki recovered from the total shock and pain he received. As Loki told Baldr they even argued the first time on whose fault it was that Bor was dead now. They almost broke their passionate love for one another as brothers, but Loki stopped the silly argument and showed Baldr his vulnerability. Argument forgotten and grief and healing was the next step for both of them. Loki was also interested in Frigga and she almost chose him too, Odin hated that and drew her away from Loki. Before Baldr could take the throne...he got murdered. That blew Loki away and he couldn't deal with all the grief and pain. He needed time and foolishly gave Odin the throne."
Loki's eyes widened as he put the pieces together.
"No...", he mumbled.
"Odin was now King. Loki tried spells, Odin created one book with fake spells, tricked Loki into practicing them and he was suddenly Mother of 3 beasts. A huge snake, an 8 - legged horse and a huge wolf. Odin flirted with Frigga all that time, while Loki suffered in shame and disgust. Just what Odin wanted. I knew all of it. Loki searched help from me and Laufey. He was on the bottom of the ground. Then Odin had found a child, Hela. Odin told Loki that he raped a woman slave he enslaved as he conquered Vannaheim. Loki was in great horror. Then he put all the pieces together and knew...Odin did all of these horrors. He told us."
Loki looked at you mortified.
"Hela was always scared of Odin. He made her kill as she was a little kid. She always ran to Loki and told him and he tried to get Odin to back down, but it wasn't worth it. Odin threatened Loki with his beasty children, Odin practically forced upon Loki. What would the people think, if Odin told them about his schemes ? They would want his death. So Loki shut up and was powerless. Still, Loki was a huge danger to Odin, so he had a wicked idea. He made Loki marry Sigyn and they had 3 more children. Hel, Vali and Nari. Vali and Nari were normal and owned Loki's and Sigyn's magic. Hel...was not normal. She was half dead and half alive. That is how Helheim got created. Odin banished her on an empty planet and she made herself a home. Then he took Sleipnir, the 8 - legged horse, from Loki, then Fenris, the big wolf, and last but not least...Jormungandr, the huge snake."
Loki looked at her in horror.
"Jormungandr got banished to Midgard. Fenris gifted to Hela as pet. Sleipnir is Odin's own horse."
Loki's eyes were as wide as dinner plates of Asgard.
"THAT IS SLEIPNIR ?!", Loki yelled in utter horror.
"Hush, Loki."
He shut up and continued to listen.
"Loki was soon on the run from Odin and his very own people. Odin told them that Loki was Mother of 4 beasts. Odin told them, that he saved Asgard and that Loki murdered Baldr and Bor. They believed Odin and hunted Loki down. In the end they catched him and he received the Serpent Punishment. He was bound on rocks and before he got the snake above himself, with painful venom, Odin showed up with Sigyn, Vali and Nari. Loki knew what he will do. He begged him to leave them alone. Odin stabbed Sigyn dead, making Loki yell in agony. Then a big wolf in chains entered the cave and bit Vali and Nari in half, making Loki screech in utter agony, pain, anger and hatred. He cursed Odin and swore to make him pay for that."
Loki was staring at you utterly mortified, shocked and disgusted. He felt sick and wanted to vomit.
"Then the snake was put above him, torturing Loki until his death. The venom was so painful that when Loki writhed, the whole Nine Realms knew that he suffered. All the Nine Realms knew that Odin lied and Loki would have never done that, but he didn't care. He killed them mercilessly. The problem was...as Loki got his unfair punishment...Odin deleted all our memories and tempered with them. No one remembers Loki and Baldr. They all think that Odin was an only - child."
"But now you could kill Odin. For treason."
You shook your head.
"I can't. As soon as I kill Odin...Hela will come and cause Ragnarok upon us. We need Loki Borson back. He knows how to fix this mess."
"How do you want to resurrect someone from the dead ? That is impossible.", Loki told you.
"The 3 books are making it possible, Loki."
"The 3 books ?"
"Do you remember ? I gave you one. The book called: 'Magical book of illusions and summoning'. I thrusted it into your hands and told you to hide it good, until I or Agnus need it back. I need it back, and its brothers.", you told him serious.
"Names of those ?"
"The second one is called 'Magical book of Death' and the other is called 'Magical book of Life'. With all three of them, they combine themselves and become another book. The real book. The book called...'The magical book of the Undead.' Can you follow me, what I want from you ?"
Loki's eyes widened in great shock.
"You can resurrect with the book."
"No Loki. There are rules in that book. Rules the God of the Undead has to keep. We can summon him with those books !"
Loki just stared at her in utter shock.
"That is why they were so important ! That is why I needed you to hide one and protect it ! Odin knows about that ! He would destroy them, so Loki Borson will never return from the dead !", you told him.
Loki was gob smacked, shocked and flabbergasted at the same time, at that.
"You gave me a very powerful and dangerous artifact, to make me protect something even more dangerous and powerful...I can't believe it..."
"I trusted you enough for that, Lo. You were my last hope."
Loki looked at you in adoration, then he pulled you close to himself and kissed you. You were surprised at first, but soon kissed him back with the same carefulness and passion, Loki gave you. Soon you both parted and panted softly.
"I love you.", he said.
"I love you too.", you told him softly.
Then you summoned a pickaxe and hit the floor, until it gave out and a big hole was to see. Loki gulped.
"What is that ?"
"That is the grave of the honored soldiers of Hela. Even her fucking wolf is down there. Dead but still."
You took Loki's hand and looked at him.
"Do you trust me ?"
Loki looked at you and nodded softly. Then you pulled him to the edge and jumped, pulling Loki down with yourself. He cried out in shock, until you put a spell on yourselves, to fly down softly. Soon you touched ground, softly. Another spell and the whole grave was filled with light. Loki gasped in terror. Many dead soldiers and a huge dead wolf. Loki was terrified to say the least.
"Hela will return one day and revive them. If that happens...we will lose. She is the Goddess of Death. She can't die and as soon as she steps one foot into Asgard...her powers are limitless and she will kill everything in her path. She draws her powers right from here. And with the Eternal Flame, she will be able to revive them. Not even all the Einherjar could defeat her. She would kill them all without a second thought."
"Like the Valkyries..."
"Exactly like them. We need Loki Borson back as fast as possible. I know where he is hung. I know his grave, but we need the books."
"Where are they ?"
You looked at Loki.
"One with my long lost helmet and the other...just a pure golden soul can find."
"Well that last one will be tricky then.", Loki mumbled.
"No it will not be, Loki. You will see. Trust me."
"Fine. Then let us go and search them."
You nodded, teleported out, regenerated the floor and then took Loki's hand, storming out of the vault.
"We need our horses. I will take Blackmeane and you will take Mischief. We have to go now, before Odin will know."
"Blackmeane never liked anyone."
"Well, she is my horse. Of course she hates others trying to claim her."
Loki looked at you again in shock.
"You really need to stop to be shocked, Lo. Now hurry up and follow me."
With that you both stormed off, to the stalls.

My mom´s a space pirate queen pt.4
Word Count: 832
Pairing: Ayesha x Erlanda
Warnings: swear words
Tumblr media
Erlanda felt a pair of eyes lingering on her, following her.
She felt like a prey, waiting for the predator to come and chase her, then kill her softly, how she always waited for it.
If Loki had lived, she would´ve never thought this way, and if she did, he would make it better.
But Loki wasn´t there anymore, he wouldn´t stop his mother from jumping into the danger anymore, maybe Peter would.
The queen doubted he would, since he announced the Guardians of the Galaxy, he did rather stupid things to show off, now Star-Lord was a known name, like he always wanted it to be, but even his mother couldn´t stop him from doing dangerous jobs.
The attitude of the Guardians was a little bit chaotic, they were heroes, that was for sure, but at what cost?
They did it for the money, destroyed their ship on multiple occasions, brought chaos to other planets and angered Thanos himself, they were all going to die, she told them all the time.
She wasn´t being listened to, which made her angry, she just wanted to save her son from his father.
„What makes a strong queen like you frown, my darling?“
Erlanda was ripped from her thoughts and now turned around in the big gold bed to get a clear look on who´s she´s been laying with.
„Ayesha, you were staring at me“ The high priestess laughed, her left hand pulled back a strand of hair, while her right hand searched for Erlanda´s fingers to intervene them with hers.
„You can´t blame me, love, you´re just flawless, perfect and so so stunning“ A small giggle escaped the blonde´s mouth and revealed her fangs.
„You´re making me blush!Stop it!“
Suddenly Ayesha got quiet, a serious expression making her flawless face look worn out.
Erlanda pulled the priestess to her side and laid her head in her lap.
„What´s wrong?“ „Him, your former love“ she admitted.
„Laufey?“ the queen asked, not wanting the memories to come back.
They had a happy marriage, he was a great knight, she was a princess.
The marriage was forced, but Erlanda always liked how strong and attractive he was, so she didn´t mind the marriage.
Laufey on the other hand had admired Erlanda for long years, but wasn´t brave enough to ask her.
Time after time they got really close, trusted each other, but then the wars came.
Some high ranked knight thought it would be a good idea to attack Asgard.
Laufey volunteered, he knew Erlanda was pregnant.
That was the reason she followed him, and on the battlefield she bore the child, Loki.
As she saw Laufey getting attacked, she crawled to him and wanted to help him, but it was too late, he was dead, so all she could do was kneel over his body and grieve.
Odin was also a part of the war, as he saw Loki, he saw the opportunity to give Freya a child.
Little did he know the mother of him was the queen that had been imprisoned by the asguardian knights.
Later in Asgard Odin found out she was the mother of his adopted child and apologized, making her the second queen of Asgard and the second mother of Loki.
But that was a long time ago.
„No, I mean the captain you laid with as you found Peter“ Ayesha sounded really angry suddenly.
„Yondu? Why would I waste a thought on him?“ They had broken up because Erlanda wasn´t ready for a serious relationship, unknowingly breaking his heart.
If Peter weren´t with the Ravegers it would´ve worked out, but he was and Erlanda needed to focus on his safety.
„He´s with whores“ Ayesha laughed, looking at Erlanda, waiting for a reaction, at least an expression.
„And?Why would I care?“ was all the priestess got.
But she wanted more, she wanted the jealousy, so she could find him and extinguish the Guardians.
„Seems he´s finally over you, you didn´t need that long, but maybe the feelings may return“ Her voice got really loud now.
„What are you trying to achieve? We had our fun, didn´t we?Why are you trying to destroy it with bringing up a man whom I feel nothing towards?!“
Erlanda was furious, getting out of bed and dressing up quickly in the clothes she bought on Terra while she and Peter tripped down memory lane.
Then she proceeded to yell at Ayesha how reckless she was, how possesive, then she vanished in her ship, trying to contact Rocket.
Ayesha was left alone, never has anyone spoken to her like that, or touched her like that, maybe she wouldn´t kill her.
„Rocket where you at?“ Erlanda screamed as she finally made a connection.
„Woah! There´s no need to yell, I can understand you just fine, Elsa! You still with the golden bitch?“ Rocket responded in his charming asshole way.
„I was. Now I´m coming for you, how many clicks?“ the queen demanded.
„Five. Hurry up, I need to tell you something“

The problem with saying Loki ruled Asgard longer, and was a better ruler of Asgard than Thor,  is VAST.
First off, Thor didn't have a fucking chance. He ruled for only a few hours if even before Thanos came and slaughtered the Asgardians because of LOKI stealing the tesseract in Ragnarok. You can not compare their ruling based on time. Thor needed the time to be away from Asgard to learn to be a good man, and to know his limits and when not to be a spoiled brat chasing war for no reason, and to learn what was important about ruling people/learning more about what it meant to truly protect people and the things/places he loved. He has major character development through the series that makes him a good king because he recognizes that the title requires more than sitting on your ass eating grapes watching bad theater.
The way they rule... Originally if he had been king in the first movie, Thor would have had Asgard at war at every turn. It would have been chaos. But after everything he's been through, going from God/Prince/Future King to Mortal/Weak to Slave/Possession (for someone's violent amusement )the character development changes how he would have ruled. He thought only for the best of his people, got half of them to safety with Valkyrie, and fought -most likely with the intent of dying for his people- until he had nothing and was completely broken. Thor's actions in Infinity War are flat out suicidal and fueled by rage and depression. He's lost everything - and it all started with Loki allowing Jotuns into Asgard to prevent his intended rule. But at the same time, Loki helped him be a better fit for a king by doing so. But Thor didn't have a chance to prove himself a worthy and good king before Thanos came and fucked shit up because Loki couldn't keep his hands off of the Tesseract. But, that brings the question of if Thanos would have come either way. Loki owed him the debt from his failure after all. But in both scenarios- he came because of Loki. Loki has ruled twice. Let's talk about instance number one-    to get the title of king he a)let enemies into Asgard b)caused 4 deaths and showed zero remorse for what he'd done c)Had Thor banished (you can argue if this was intentional or not based on the movie and one of the Thor guidebook which says he intentionally goaded Thor into going to Jotunheim to get him in trouble with Odin) d) Only got it because Odin went into Odinsleep (you guys joke but this dude was already in poor health-poor enough for his enemy to take notice of his weakness- add the stress of his 1st son being banished because 'well fuck he's just like the banished child and needs to learn not to be' and the stress of Loki finding out who he really is/that originally he planned to use him and Loki refused to let him explain further and instead went full out pissed and yelling at a weak old man)
Now there is that deleted scene where Frigga gives him the title BUT IT DOES NOT FIT INTO THE MOVIE. Rewatch it, try to place that scene. It doesn't fit. Loki is playing King before he speaks with Frigga in that deleted scene- which was shortened and edited in after he's already playing king. It does not fully apply to the canon of the movie because of this technicality. So for all we know- he took the title without Frigga's knowledge. So during that first rule, what did Loki do? A)closed off the Bifrost to prevent Thor's return B)Sent the Destroyer to kill Thor, and even told it to destroy everything in the little town Thor was in -with no regard for the lives which could be lost because of his actions. C)Allowed Laufey into Jotunheim, and let's be real Laufey could have easily turned around, stabbed Loki, and then gone off to kill Frigga and Odin. D)Let Laufey hit Frigga, played perfect hero son only after Laufey was already on top of Odin about to stab him, and pretended not to know a thing, like 'Lol how'd he get here idk mother but I'll protect you even though he already flung you across the room'
Loki's rule should technically end when Thor returns. But even then, Loki has Gungnir, which is basically saying he's still in some way in charge and what does he do with this power? He takes the kings staff to the Bifrost with the intent of destroying an entire planet after already murdering his biological father/a king, putting Asgard in danger, and his own king and queen-his adoptive parents, in a very dangerous position. -Frigga may be good with small knives but she was struggling with that sword.
Let's move to rule 2.
Take into consideration everything he did in Midgard-   bringing an alien army to attack the planet, killing over 80 people in like 2 days, causing destruction and chaos in New York which would later lead to the problems in later MCU movies that take place in Midgard (Spiderman Homecoming is a good example) and let' not forget having mind slaves he completely damaged. All of this was in his conquest to gain enough power to be king. But we know Midgard was never the end game for Loki- it was always Asgard. And remorse? Yeah, not really there. He has a brief moment of 'It's too late', but he uses that to stab Thor- meaning he was likely playing on Thor's emotions knowing Thor would fall for his puppy eyes.
So Loki's imprisoned (for showing no remorse and acting like everything is just a silly children's game-and Odin knows where it is headed because of Hela), he's not in any way a king or ruler of anything, but even in his cell he inadvertently causes Frigga's death in hoping to send Algrim/Kurse to Odin and Thor. 'I don't think the people of Asgard would take kindly to a king who murdered their predecessor' -So I'll send someone else to do it for me. (Because who is next in line if Thor and Odin die? Loki, you know if they hadn't decided to do that fuck up of 'lol Hela is their older sister now', but I digress.) The fact is Loki never shows real guilt or remorse until he realizes he is the reason that Frigga, the only person still giving him any chance and sneaking around to speak with him, died. So the story goes -he sets off, helps Thor, even protects Jane, and then fakes his death. Again. Both times were different though- I believe he truly believed he'd die if he let go of Mjolnir's handle based off the tie in Avengers comic-they believed Loki would be torn to shreds by the world tree. But in this fake death, it's all Loki. He gets up, brushes off, returns to Asgard.
So how does he get to be king the second time? He curses Odin, banishes him in Midgard in a retirement home -and never checks up to be like 'oh yeah whatever happened to dad?'- which leads to Odin being a homeless vagabond just chilling in Norway waiting to see his sons one last time. In the meantime, Loki gives Thor what he wants and sends him to Midgard. Of course, Thor says he returned to Asgard once in AOU- but did he really? He would have caught on that Odin wasn't Odin if he really had. (Really it's a shame they wouldn't let Joss focus on Thor like he wanted) - So that mention of going to Asgard in AOU-let's assume Loki was off doing Loki things and avoiding Thor. Which leads to Thor traveling the universe for YEARS trying to find answers about the Infinity Stones. -A mess Loki helped make worse, but that began in Captain America. (Thanks, Red Skull.)
So what's Loki doing while Thor's off trying to save the universe? He's ignoring Asgards duties, which leads to the Dwarves slaughter and the gauntlet being made (of course he may have thought he had the real and only gauntlet in the vault).  Loki gathers up some bad actors, writes his own little play, erects a giant statue of himself, MOCKS FRIGGA'S DEATH by making his 'sacrifice' in avenging her a total joke in the play and by laughing at it, and maybe even hoes around with the servant ladies that surround him while he watches the play. Which if he did- further mocks Frigga and Odin.
Thor arrives and calls him out on his shit, his reign is pretty much done for. But Thor doesn't get the chance to rule, he has to clean Loki's mess and get Odin, and then he has to clean Odin's mess with Hela. Thor tries to prevent Hela from reaching Asgard, but Loki shouts for the gate to be open-if Heimdall was in charge of the gate and saw this shit he would have kept it closed. Just saying. So Loki gives Hela an opening to put Asgard and its people in danger- which if she had won in the end, would have led to death and chaos across the universe. But that's not how the story goes. Thor and Loki get thrown into Sakaar. Loki's been there for weeks and is just mingling and partying, making jokes about his first death, and while he's stolen ship passcodes-is making no real effort to leave and go fight for his people. But that is all Thor is worried about and wants to do. Even when Thor is a slave, locked up and unable to do much but fight to get his freedom, he only thinks of returning to Asgard to save the people. Loki even tries to prevent Thor from doing so for money.-and possibly being petty that Thor would not go with his plan to escape together and ignore Asgard, let it burn. Thor escapes, he fights for his people- and Loki turns up afterwards, only to ham it up and be a big diva like 'LOOK I AM BRINGING A BIG SHIP AND I AM SAVING YOU ALL WITH IT' -yes, he fights, yes, in the end, he pledges allegiance to Asgard, but his actions prior to his Infinity War death are not the actions of a good king, only a selfish man. He and Thor both understand ruling well, but they both understand different aspects, and Loki's is the toxic form, while Thor's is the good-natured and humble form. Combining them together=great king.
If Thanos hadn't of come, Thor would still have people to care for and rule over, but he doesn't. He has nothing. He's a space hobo now. His rule would have been much longer than Loki's, and, in an ideal world, they could have learned to work together to combine their understanding of what it means to be king. But that world doesn't exist.
