The reason this fandom hates IDW Optimus isn't because he's a cop (plenty of people are fine with Prowl) or because he's a bastard (most characters in IDW are) but because he commits the crime of being an actual person who's messy, flawed, and makes a shitload of high stakes mistakes fitting for the intense situations and pressure he's put under constantly.

But we can't have Optimus actually react to his situations by lashing out or being unpleasant, no, he has to have the personality of a cardboard cutout of G1 whose only defining personality traits are "dad, funny, nice," and if he ever vents negative emotions it can only ever be #relatable depression or him being sad on his own without ever letting it show during the important parts of the story. If Optimus dares do things like be angry or frustrated or bitter it's just a sign that he's a bastard and LITERALLY the worst Optimus ever. If Optimus ever makes mistakes or does wrong things in the heat of anger/frustration/stress it's because he's just an evil bastard with no redeeming traits.

God forbid Optimus go through an unending gauntlet of war, politics, atrocities, near-complete loneliness, and a seemingly endless cycle of violence for his entire life and come out of it kind of bitter, angry, and tired of dealing with people's shit. He's not allowed to be a realistic person, context doesn't matter, sympathy doesnt matter. IDW Optimus doesn't fulfill the fandom's fantasies of Father Figure or Perfect Cultural Icon or Twinky Fucktoy and since that's the only reason most people care about Optimus in general, the fandom collectively trashes on IDW OP.

All because he can't fit into the overly simplified and childlike double standard the fandom has where if any other character is messy and flawed, that's good writing and interesting and compelling, but if OPTIMUS is messy and flawed, he's Literally The Worst and he's an asshole for no other reason than He Sucks, context be damned

Ya know, I'm surprised YRZ didn't hightail it out of the party when coming into contact with BW. (In the most gentlemanly way possible.) Especially considering the fact that he's not sure what version of canon it is, which can get very messy. (Batman the Animated series, Young Justice, Justice League, etc.) Did his weakness to alcohol (transmigrated through the universe from bfiasc) cloud his judgement and he shacked up with him due to lowering his worries and maxing out his charm? He bent BW!

It’s a combination of factors!

1. Yrz has avoided any superhero nonsense for about 24 years now.

2. This is yrzs fourth party with Bruce Wayne in attendance where nothing stupid happened.

3. Yrz is, indeed, a bit drunk

4. Bruce Wayne is a solid hunk of man who looks like he can bench press Yrz one handed. Hot!

It’s fiiiinnneeee, Yrz thinks while turning up the charm, a one night stand shouldn’t hurt.

Rinse and repeat this ‘one night stand’ for a few years until, whoops, Yrz is parenting Bruce Wayne’s new wards without realizing it.

ough this is a good one because. i think before jack davey had a non-relationship with santa fe. and then he meets jack and jack is so idealistic and hopeful about a city that only exists in his head, at least the way he dreams of it.

and i think davey has a complicated relationship with jack's version of santa fe. santa fe is, to jack, escapism. it's the dream of starting over with a clean slate where nobody knows him and he can decide who he really wants to be. and on the one hand, I think davey really gets it, maybe more than he'd want to admit to himself. he understands that desire to leave everything behind for the chance to build something new. but also, it can sting a little, you know? to hear somebody he loves so much talk about how he wants to leave it all behind. especially before they solidify what they are to each other, when davey feels like he's in love with his best friend who will never quite love him back the same way, santa fe is such a bittersweet thing. he gets it, he knows how much jack needs to have that dream, but also...he wants jack to dream of him.

i think the first time jack purposefully and out loud chooses davey over the concept of santa fe. not chooses his friends in general or chooses to acknowledge that it's a pipe dream, but chooses davey jacobs. that's huge for davey. it's an insecurity that maybe he didn't even want to admit that he has, but jack saying no even if I had the chance to actually get up and go, i'd choose to stay with you because I love you. i think that means more to davey than anything. also any time jack includes davey in his dreams, when he proposes that they run away together, I think that means a lot, too.

need need NEED to emphasize that constantine's primary big bad skillset is psychological warfare, verbal assault, and strategically leading people to their demise at the hands of other things. his murder charges aren't because he actually physically killed anyone, the first was the most normal explanation for the newcastle incident and the second was him being framed. physical violence is not his thing, killing is not his thing, spilling any blood that isn't his or isn't strictly, strictly necessary to spill is not his thing, and he will, more likely than not, get sick if he has to do it!!
