ive rlly grown to love shows that start out with a main duo but as it goes on it becomes very clear that the more average mundane one who is actually the sidekick is the actual main character and the cool hero one does still do most of the heavy lifting but the show is more about watching the sidekick watch the hero do all the really cool shit and be both stressed out and impressed by it

#its a concept that is very hard to put into words for some reason but yea #sidekick is the real protag but they still dont rlly get to do protag stuff until the chips r rlly down #the three main ones that made me realize that this is an actual trope that i love are #double decker doug and kirill #sabikui bisco #and the show im currently watching #appare ranman #i am a kosame protag truther btw #hes the main character appare is just his swag autistic boyfriend he watches do cool shit #rambling

so i've been watching Muppet compilations-

my only unpopular iasip opinion so far i think is that i dont hate the idea that dee used to be actually sweet before charlie fucked up her roller skates. although i do not think her being sweet was actually her either. if that makes sense

what my brain immediately went with while watching was that since dee has been shown to Heavily crave validation etc (the "tell me im good" scene immediately comes to mind) when she was younger she definitely was the same person she is in the actual show but she used to be more controlled and repressed and was capable of acting like she was just that sweet.

her and dennis can be very similar at times and the high school reunion episodes established that even when they were teenagers he drove people away from him and freaked them out with his inability to really control himself. he didn't notice because he is in an incredible amount of denial at all times but if dee did, which i have to imagine is Very likely, she could have seen herself in her brother and believed she couldn't be entirely herself And be liked. and she chose to try to be liked.

her hitting her head then wouldn't just be her having an entirely new personality, it would be her getting a traumatic brain injury, which can affect impulse control and therefore affect her ability to bottle up her feelings the way she used to.

#but idk ive only watched this show all the way through once. im currently rewatching but my mums watching a lot without me #i do definitely want to rewatch the first few seasons tho bc my memories fuzzy there and i want to refresh it specially irt dee bc i know #originally she was intended to be the Only Normal One and i think that might go interestingly w the understanding i currently have but i #need to go back to it first #anyway ! love to rotate the gang in my mind #my stuff #it's always sunny in philadelphia #dee reynolds
