Hi, I have a question I was wondering to get some kind of insight from you??? You have thinking skills....that seem a lot better than other bloggers around here and that's a compliment. It's incredibly basic but how do you feel about like the prospect and moralization of 'problematic characters' in the LIS games?? I realize this is loaded possibly in everyway , but I mean the highly moral and controlling nature of this fandom 'cherry-picking' when someone has the audacity to like 'problematic characters.' I realize this is becoming a bigger problem with characters like Nathan, Warren, and Finn. For example Nathan fans are...often accused of being literal pro-sexual violence or are told they 'worship a murderer'. It's so overbearing to the point that the overall controlling nature of this fandom leads people to act like they must shame and humiliate people who like those characters and not only that but they also want to make it 'illegal' for someone to like specific characters. That sounds pathetic, but i don't know how else to say it. I don't want to exactly interject a personal anecdote, but 'problematic character discourse' can lead people to a dark place and it gets ugly so fast it's scary - which is why I'm unfortunately asking this. I'm just looking for some kind of light and reason honestly. I realize this is such a contentious topic and I'm not so sure if i worded this well, but I'm hoping you'll say something reasonable.

off the bat, i’ll say that i already talked a bit about this topic somewhat here : where i discuss puritanical views ( also known as purity culture, which i think plays somewhat of a hand in this topic ) and how negatively i feel about them. bringing up morals as a means of winning arguments over fictional characters is frankly ridiculous and always will be -- especially when they do things like claim the real people behind these accounts are somehow evil or disgusting for their preferences. many of the life is strange characters are extremely flawed and immoral in the things they do, to the point that it’s a mechanic in life is strange 2 in particular. there are many reasons why characters behave ‘problematically’ … some of which are extremely sympathetic and relatable reasons, even if their actions aren’t necessarily excusable. to simplify all that nuance into black and white thinking goes directly against the themes shown throughout these games and is rather small minded in general. but you already know that! i don’t have to explain why nathan is more than just a ‘murderer’, because the game itself makes it obvious and does want you to sympathize with him somewhat. or why finn isn’t some heartless monster because he did something fucked up, a thing he actively apologizes for and a thing that makes sense given his backstory. or how rachel amber is a victim who, like any teenage girl, was flawed and a little desperate, and definitely wasn’t some sort of abuser or evil seductress. i could talk about it, and i’m sure i will in the future, but let me explain my feelings along with my thoughts on this matter of cherry-picking in the lis fandom.

my feelings? simple! i do not like it. i find it dumb and i usually block people who act like asses, which means in this fandom, that’s actually a good chunk of the fans. i’m here to fixate on this franchise and how i do that is via analysis! i’m very character focused, i can spend hours picking apart a singular character until i’m going in happy circles over it … i love seeing why characters are the way they are, what they might’ve been thinking in certain scenes or feeling, how they mesh with their fellow characters, etc etc. the plots of lis are fine too, of course, but if you take one look at my blog as well as my rp blogs, it’s obvious where my interests lie : characters and their relationships. i’m a shipper at heart, so playing around with multiple characters and observing how they would exist in their dynamics is my guilty pleasure and the main thing that hooks me in fandoms. although romance and sex is the core of any fandom, so i don’t think that’s too shocking. i mean, my url is a ship from double exposure, you know? so because of my deadly combination of interests and expertise, i’m prone to being subjected to these accusations and awful opinions -- things that irritate me deeply enough that i do often privately rant to friends about it. i try not to be too hateful publicly, but my discontent with the fandom could fill a river to be honest. my tragic disposition is that i have the very normal ability to find characters or dynamics interesting without necessarily liking them … or, to be more apt, i’m able to put my biases aside for the sake of understanding that people are entitled to their opinions as well as being able to ask myself the questions of ‘is this really how the ship is? is this how the character is? or has my dislike / liking of them clouded my vision?’ the latter technique is how i conduct myself on here and in fic. my most self indulgent and biased opinions or works stay deep in discord or on my personal for a reason! i think most lis fans are chained by their biases and, unlike most, are unable to understand their warped opinions because of it. which is where we run into a lot of the fandom’s core problem, which is that a loud majority of fans are phrasing things as fact despite evidence of the contrary, and they simply don’t care to change those ‘facts’ into opinions because they do not care about the source material. they care about fanon and their own headcanons.

( i should note that this is very normal and not inherently bad! it’s only when these hcs become law that things get dicey quickly. that’s what leads to harassment and the rise of purity culture. they want an echo chamber instead of a group full of creative individuality, because people not creating the content they want suddenly means this other unwanted content must be entirely bad and spoiled, in a way )

i think these personal biases are shown in the wishy-washy moral codes fans push forward. for example, many fans choose to sacrifice arcadia bay and view this as the right choice to make! but then some of these fans will turn around and demonize the blood brothers ending, claiming that sean and daniel are now ‘evil’ for killing those cops at the border, without any regard for the fact that they’ve killed many innocent people in arcadia bay. somehow max’s choice at the end is morally correct while sean’s choice is not. this is also shown in the fandom’s forgiveness of chloe’s character while loathing nathan’s, a character who parallels chloe in many ways ( a comparison that max herself makes in her journal multiple times ). people will say finn is evil and disgusting due to him taking advantage of daniel’s power for what he perceives to be a greater good, but will overlook chloe doing the same thing in lis:1, where she repeatedly wants max to use her powers chloe’s way. and yes, chloe does put them in danger with this ( ie wanting max to go back and shoot her drug dealer ). people will drag safi through the mud but will see rachel as a flawless angel. etc etc. the point is this : these so called moral codes that the entire fandom should follow are shaky at best, and completely hypocritical at worst. their favorites can get away with whatever they want while having their flaws erased or reasoned with, but their least favorites are put on trial and every nitpick they personally have now becomes a real life crime. it does not matter if you obviously don’t agree with what the character’s done, the fact that you like them at all is a punishable offense, simply because these sorts of fans don’t want anyone to like their least faves. if they have a problem with a character, so should you. it’s an ideology that’s even found in how these people discuss the games, with them angrily typing out essays and throwing out insults ( like, ‘you don’t understand good writing’ ) when a game they hate is, god forbid, mildly enjoyed by others. the lis fandom doesn’t want to be a fandom, it wants to be a hive mind, so a method they use to ensure their own opinions stay relevant and undisputable is by using real life morals to scare fans into compliance. think of how some fandoms use the ‘they’re actually found family so this is incest you freak’ excuse when a ship they don’t like just happens to exist in their presence lol. big scary words ( ones that lose all meaning in these sorts of arguments ) do happen to actually scare people and shame them, so it’s never really surprising to me when these terms surface. some other terms used frequently in this way are romanticizing, sexualizing, and condoning. people are so hateful and eager to repress anything they dislike, rather than using tumblr’s blocking features to curate their spaces instead.

and as you said, this sort of discourse gets ugly quick. i’ve seen anti warren anons that claim to hate him because they’re essentially oh so morally righteous then send innocent people the most revolting, most graphic death threats that contain vivid descriptions of rape and torture. i’ve seen my fair share of disgusting anon hate, but even those particular anons shock me with their oozing loathing of people they do not know and are purposefully trying to trigger and scare away. frankly, you’re not morally correct at all if this is how you behave over fictional bullshit. warren supposedly being a ‘nice guy’ stereotype that hurts people in real life is not at all comparable to sending death threats to actual people just because you’re mad they won’t conform. i don’t give a fuck if you like jefferson so long as you’re a respectable human being and understand that many people don’t want to see that man in their space, and rightfully so. just mind your business! find your own space to exist! block tags of things you don’t wanna see and block blogs that make you angry! i don’t care what anyone does, so long as they stop these stupid crusades of purity in what is canonically dark and serious material. yes, people can ship ( insert notp here ) and they’re entitled to that ship and their blog. block them. yes, people can relate to a bad character, and yes they can do that while still condemning their more extreme and cruel actions, it’s not that hard to do, and if you don’t like it? if you can’t understand? then block them. now, are there people who genuinely woobify these characters or ‘fetishize’ the things they’ve done? do some people give off red flags for the things they say about some of these more problematic characters? sure. i’ve come across people like that before myself, but again, i just block them. there’s no point in arguing or harassing anyone on the internet for a plethora of reasons, so it’s better to just mind your business and to create a safe place for you first and foremost. surround yourself with likeminded individuals and filter tags that upset you instead of being cruel or demanding of others and their time. it’s easier for everyone in the long run.

also it isn’t actually illegal to like any of the lis characters anyway. you won’t go to jail for liking, say, lucas colmenero from double exposure … or sean prescott from lis1 and bts. you can’t go to jail for canonical relationships that exist in game, like rachel and frank or rachel and jefferson. or for crackships like nathan and vinh, or whatever else. actually going to jail for your fictional preferences is stupidly hard because it is just that, fiction, and that fiction isn’t inherently harming anyone. cops don’t want to do their jobs half the time anyway! so my advice to anyone is this : don’t ever feel shamed into not sharing your opinions or liking the characters / ships you enjoy. nobody can take that away from you and you will never be punished for it in a way that matters. you do you! that’s infinitely more interesting than following the grain and doing nothing of interest … the lis fandom could do with more diversity in opinions, content, and the likes. and i also mean this for things i won’t like or agree with, because i support the passion if nothing else.

one last reason i could think of as for why people behave in this manner ( outside of bias and a general need to conform ) is the simple fact that complexity is regarded as scary nowadays. people are afraid of things that require actual deep thought … and they’re frightened by things deemed unhealthy or gross by fandom. they’re just as scared of those labels as the people they throw them at are, you know? they don’t want to like things that are ‘bad’ themselves and so they veer on the side of squeaky clean characterization and fluff. they want what is familiar to them and what makes them comfortable -- and there’s nothing wrong with that. nobody has to like what squicks them out! despite my own fondness for nathan, i think everyone is entitled to despise him and to avoid his name like the plague due to the uncomfortable themes tied to his character. i wouldn’t blame someone for it … i might not agree with some of the things fans say about nathan, but that feeling that they have is valid and not something i’d ever dispute. you can’t debate with someone’s feelings on something, only their thoughts and views. i keep that in mind often whenever i want to comment on a post or reblog it with my own spin, because some people aren’t receptive to genuine debates and that’s fine. they can air their feelings publicly so long as everyone else can too, so long as they don’t harass others or claim other fans are ‘evil’ or ‘disgusting’ for their opinions. but yeah, i think fear of complexity plays a factor in all this too. people aren’t really encouraged to use their critical thinking anymore, instead there’s a push to be right or wrong -- to be ‘correct’ above all else. this sense of competition has really infected fandom spaces, and while fandom has never been perfect, morality has only recently started to be weaponized as a means of winning these so called battles.

honestly, there’s so many layers and reasonings to it. most people aren’t malicious and just happen to share the majority opinion! or some people are too ashamed to put themselves out there, so they copy whatever sounds best … or, sometimes, people just don’t care about engaging with media in a nuanced sense, so their views on the media are simple and close minded and that’s fine. one could talk for days about this topic, but i’ll shut up for now. i’m sure i’ve talked enough about it, anyway!

I know tag wranglers do a lot of work connecting tags etc. Is there anything authors can do to make their jobs easier for them like trying to mostly use canonical tags or not making tag comments?

This is a great question, and I'll do my best to answer it but I do hope that some wranglers add on in the notes! I'm also just going to preface this with the fact that you should still tag however you like to tag. This list isn't meant to be a checklist or anything. It's just info I've picked up over the years and you can take or leave each piece as you see fit.

Okay, so the first thing that most non-wranglers should know is that wranglers see tags separately from the fic. They get a big bin full of tags to sort through and match up in the system, but they'll only see your fic and the other tags you've added to it if they decide to go look.

That's important to know because sometimes a user will tag something like [character] is so sexy and then also tag by which I mean they're a huge dork. The wranlger won't see that second tag and won't know that they're connected so your sarcastic tag will end up synned (matched up to) sexy!Character or whatever the canonical is, as if that was the meaning you were going for.

Another good thing to know is that tags can only be synned if they only have 1 idea in them. So if you tag, say, [character] is gay and autistic then the wrangler can't actually syn that to either [character] is gay or character is autistic because it only half-fits either tag. To have them synned in the database, you would need to tag those two ideas separately.

You might have already seen the post I made referencing the fact that you don't have to tag multiple versions of the same idea (unless you want to for the aesthetic) because the synning that wranglers do makes sure that tagging one idea allows users to filter for all versions of that idea. But in case you didn't know that, now you do!

Wranglers are often members of the fandoms they wrangle, but they aren't always. Sometimes they'll take on a fandom that doesn't otherwise have a wrangler because they like to do research or because they like small fandoms or for many other reasons. But that means that if you're tagging your OCs by name, you should add (OC) to the end so that they know it's not a canon character that they aren't familiar with. This is double true in huge fandoms like Star Wars where there are millions of canon characters and just as many OCs.

Wranglers don't "seed" tags in fandoms. For a tag to exist, users need to create it. The rule of thumb is at least 3 fics from 3 separate authors, but that's very much the minimum and in fast-moving or huge fandoms the bar is probably higher. Also, for brand new fandoms, it's entirely possible that they won't know you exist until you tell them. Back in January I was the first person to write in a brand new fandom so I knew I had to start the tags, and I waited until there were 25 or so works by 15 or so creators before I emailed Support because I know I have to be patient - but I'm still impatient by nature lol.

Another thing to know is that tags are kind of like proton packs - they can't cross the streams. If you put a tag in the Character field by mistake, wranglers can't move it to the Additionals. This can also work in your favour, though, because if you have a minor character or minor relationship that you want to tag because there's some kind of fandom drama happening and people want to be able to avoid them, you can tag them in the Additional Tags so that people can know they're in there, but the people who like that character or ship can still filter the Character and Relationship tags without seeing a bunch of works that don't really focus on them.

This got super long, so I'll end with your question about tag comments. I know people worry that it makes extra work for tag wranglers if you get all chatty in your fic tags but I've been reassured by more than one wrangler over the course of several years now that it's no extra work. They just shovel those tags into the gaping maw of the Unfilterable Beast - which is the same thing they do with those tags that have multiple concepts in them. If it can't be synned, then that's where they go.

(keep tagging that way, though, if you like to because that's how new concepts get created and eventually canonized)

Alright, I that's all I can think of off the top of my head, and the list was actually longer than I thought! Wranglers: please do add on with other things you wish users knew, and please correct me if anything has changed since the last time I delved into this topic!

Editing to add: a wrangler pointed out in the tags that [character] is autistic and gay can itself become a single tag if enough people use it. That's true of other tags with multiple meanings as well. They just can't be synned with existing tags in the meantime.

Ways I can think of that “DanDaDan” differs from other shonen series:

* Female MC is as important as male MC

* Canon romance gets consistent development through the series. I think that’s part of the reason why the MC ships with the rivals (Aira, Jiji) aren’t as popular with the fandom for once. The main ship is actually getting good development, so the fanbase doesn’t have to make up headcanons to fill in the space.

* Flips the found family trope on its head by having the main group despise new people whenever they show up and they even actively try to kick them out. The new people only end up staying because they keep lingering around to the point that the main group just gives up and lets them stay.

* The rivals aren’t emo or angst-ridden. Aira is a delusional tryhard popular girl while Jiji is a himbo drama queen. I’d even go as far to say that the MCs are the ones who are emo and angst-ridden.

* Supporting cast is more than just important, they become integral to the story. I’d say that the further you read into DanDaDan, the more it becomes an ensemble cast where everyone is a protagonist in their own right.

* World-building is all over the place, but in a good way. Most other shonen are pretty consistent with what kind of world their characters live in. MHA is superhero-based, Naruto is ninjas and magic, Bleach is spirits, and so on. DanDaDan feels like the author just throws whatever cool shit they can think of into the story. That’s actually the reason why I wrote in a different post that DanDaDan reminds me more of Marvel/DC than any other shonen series, it manages to capture the catch-all insanity of those comics.

* Doesn’t rely on hidden power-ups. The main characters either have to outsmart the villains or they have to train to get better with the powers they already have.

* The pervert comic relief guy is actually endearing for once. Not because of his pervert tendencies, but because he’s so oblivious to how socially inept he is that it’s kind of funny. This is gonna sound strange, but he sorta reminds me of Thor in Thor Ragnarok. Full of himself and oblivious to how dumb he can be. He’s Thor without the good looks lol.

* Flips the “nerdy outcast loser somehow gets a harem” trope. Instead of making Okarun cooler than how he actually is, the story emphasizes that the women who fall for Okarun are as weird as him. Momo is a weird outcast, Aira has main character syndrome, Vamola doesn’t understand how to human because she’s literally not one, Rin thought Okarun was a vampire (and wanted him to be).

* Flips the ��elderly figure in charge of the teenagers” trope. I don’t really get motherly figure vibes from Seiko Ayase, I get more “cool wine aunt who is stuck with her niece” vibes. In fact, there was the arc where Okarun showed up to her in spirit mode to get her help with fighting off the alien invasion and Seiko’s response was, “Well, I’m not in the area and I have other shit to do, so you kids figure it out.”

* The series takes the piss out of the trope of mystical/magical items that the group acquired to get their powers. I mean…the main mystical MacGuffin in the series are Okarun’s balls.

* Okarun was about to go into an “I’m weak / I wish I was stronger / I want to get stronger for my friends” breakdown, but Turbo Granny told him to shut up and keep fighting.

* Not afraid to put the “cool girl” in as many funny situations as possible. Off the top of my head, the series built up Momo as this cool, tough girl who doesn’t take shit from anyone…then several chapters later, Okarun found out she got a job at a maid cafe.

People who try to analyze what happened on Tumblr on November 5th, 2020, often really overstate how much it was actually “about” Supernatural. As someone who has never been in the supernatural fandom ever but dID join in on the hysterical destielposting—it was really more about the stress of the pandemic and the 2020 presidential election.

The two biggest Youtubers I’ve seen try to dissect “what happened that November 5th” in video essays both weren’t American—- and I think that explains why they both tried to explain the hysteria primarily via analyzing the Supernatural fandom/the original show, rather than through the lens of the election. And while those videos are cool, valid, informational, and make lots of really well-considered interesting points— I can tell you that me and almost all my mutuals had literally no knowledge or interest in the fact that “oh supernatural had made nods at the ship in the past but the creators were adamant that I wouldn’t be canon” or etc etc etc etc. the first time I learned about any of that context was way later, watching videos where people claimed that fandom history context (that I did not know anything about) was the actual reason for the hysteria.

But the reality is that people latched on to the Destiel stuff because it was a piece of big useless inane zero-stakes fandom news in a time when we were desperately waiting for serious high stakes election news. We were latching onto a “positive “ piece of inane stupid fandom news in a time of great stress, with all the desperation of a drowning man who latches onto whatever piece of wood will keep him afloat.

The core of the hysteria was that Americans (who make up a huge chunk of tumblr’s userbase) were currently glued to their laptops watching the live presidential election vote counts come in. These vote counts were taking an extended amount of time due to the pandemic causing high numbers of mail-in ballots, resulting in a constant state of Election Day Stress for multiple days straight.

This was also during the height of the Pandemic. People had predicted Trump’s presidency would be bad; no one had predicted it would be this apocalyptically bad. No one had predicted pandemics and lockdowns and hospitals overflowing with bodybags. remember Trump spreading Covid lies and conspiracies?? There were so many Qanon conspiracies about democrats being Satanic child traffickers who had to be put to death, and coup threats were mounting from the right wing side. It seemed like this election was a choice between ‘centrist democrat’ and “apocalyptic right wing conspiracy theory authoritarianism,” in the midst of pandemic conditions that people feared would never ever improve— and it seemed like a close election.

Another major point was that Trump voters were more likely to be antimaskers/Covid deniers, while Biden voters were more likely to take the pandemic seriously— so Biden voters were more likely to send in mail-in ballots instead of risking the in-person voting crowds, which meant their ballots would take much longer to count. And so, in many state electoral vote counts, it would initially seem like Trump was very far in the lead— only for Biden to slooooowly build up an agonizingly small lead as the mail in ballots came in, and then defeat Trump at the very end.

So you’re just watching these news sites giving live election updates, refreshing the page every 2 minutes to see if you’re going to live under a spineless centrist democrat or a literal Qanon Dictatorship. And then you go on tumblr to distract yourself, and there’s more election posting, and more agonizing over the votes, and more stress and despair—-

And then it’s been days and we’re right at the crucial tipping point where it’s anyone’s game and the next few hours will determine whether Trump will win, so you need to keep your eye on the vote count, because the next hours will determine the future of the pandemic and your country and your plans for your entire life—

And then stupid Destiel becomes canon! And it becomes canon in the silliest way possible!

If Destiel had become canon at any other time, it would have been a big goofy tumblr celebration? But we wouldn’t have gotten the insane explosion of hysterical interaction.

The entire core of it was the contrast between the inane meaningless stupidity of fandom news vs the actual stressful election news you wanted to hear! It really is best conveyed in that meme where Castiel says “I love you” and Dean indifferently responds with a piece of important election news.

It’s about the contrast between the low-stakes inanity of fandom and the massive life-destroying stakes of a terrifying election. There really was no reason it had be Supernatural specifically, except that Supernatural was a thing everyone knew basic things about from dashboard osmosis— it could’ve been any other equally huge silly fandom ship news about a ship everyone *knew of* but might not necessarily be invested in (ex. Stucky becoming canon, Johnlock becoming canon, Kirk/Spock becoming more canon somehow, etc etc etc.)

I think it’s true that people who weren’t paying agonizingly close attention to the American election news got swept up in it, and that non American Supernatural fans also were extremely excited for purely fandom reasons — but the entire reason it blew up to an unprecedented degree was because of that core of stressed out terrified Americans glued to their computers watching election results and suddenly receiving stupid fandom news instead, and deciding to just hysterically parodically hyper-celebrate this absurd useless zero-stakes news.

I think it was also all elevated by the fact that, as I said before, this happened at the crucial “tipping point” of the election where the next few hours would determine the winner. The fact that Biden began to slowly develop a lead in the hours after made it feel, hysterically, as if the hours after Destiel became canon was somehow the turning point where he began to win; so celebrating Destiel felt like celebrating that slow turn towards victory.

The tl,dr is that it’s so important to Remember the Fifth of November …..in preparation the inevitable hysteria that will happen in the presidential election on November 5th of next year. XD. Personally I’m rooting for Johnlock or Frodo/Sam to somehow become canon in the eleventh hour right before the democrats win

“You want the last cup?” Jimmy offered, already reaching for it — until your eyes met his. A slight tilt of your head. A subtle pulse of psychic energy. His hand froze. Then, smiling as if it was his own idea, he said, “Actually, you go ahead. Looks like you need it more.”

You did. But that was besides the point.

The ability to influence people — gently, subtly, never maliciously — had made life at the Daily Planet significantly easier. Deadlines weren’t challenged. Conference rooms weren’t contested. Even Perry approved your story pitches faster than anyone else’s.

Nobody ever noticed. Because it never felt like a shove, just…a good idea they hadn’t realized was yours.

Except it didn’t work on him.

Clark Kent.

He was maddeningly immune. Like a rock in the middle of a current, unmoved by your waves. You realized that during your second week at the Daily Planet, after he’d bumped into you — apologizing profusely as your coffee spilled down the front of your blouse.

“Don’t worry, I’ve got it,” He said, retrieving a roll of paper towels from his desk.

You met his gaze and allowed your power to flow, smooth as silk. “Actually,” You suggested, “it would be really helpful if you could get me a fresh cup.”

Nothing. No hesitation. No flicker of compliance behind those glasses.

He blinked at you. “The coffee? Uh — sure, yeah. How do you take it again?”

No moment of blank surrender, no silent acceptance of your thoughts as his own. Just Clark, doing a kindness because he chose to.

You laughed it off like you always did when your ability slipped, but it kept happening. Every time. With everyone else, the lightest suggestion became reality. But not with him.

At first, you chalked it up to nerves. Maybe you had a thing for him — he was cute, after all. Tall, steady, old-fashioned in a way that should have grated but didn’t. Always held the elevator. Kept track of everyone’s birthdays. Smiled like your voice was the only one that mattered whenever you pitched a story.

Maybe your ability had no sway over Clark because, on some level, you never truly wanted it to.

But then you began to notice other things. Like the fact that every Superman interview published by the Daily Planet bore Clark Kent’s byline.

You knew plenty of reporters who’d chased Superman through rooftop stakeouts, bureaucratic red tape, and half a dozen dead-end leads. But Clark? He never had to chase. He always landed the first quote, the exclusive, the one-on-one.

“How do you always land these?” You asked as he submitted yet another polished draft — cheeks flushed from what he called a “quick trip to the scene.”

He adjusted his glasses, looking modest. “Right place, right time.”

You offered a polite smile, but something in your gut pulled tight. Clark Kent was many things, but lucky was not one of them.

Then the disappearances started. Whenever Superman appeared downtown, Clark would vanish from his desk.

Perry barked orders — “Get me boots on the ground!” — and Clark was already gone. Taking an early lunch. Stuck in an elevator. Nowhere to be found.

He’d return to the office breathless — loose tie, tousled hair. “Sorry, I missed it. You all right?”

And like clockwork, Superman’s quotes would appear in his next draft.

Immune to your psychic nudges. Always gone whenever Superman appeared. Somehow landed every exclusive with the most elusive man in Metropolis. It was almost laughable, how obvious it was.

You decided to test your theory during the next bullpen rush.

Perry was in a mood — cursing zoning permits and vigilante damage reports — and Clark was buried in a report on LutherCorp’s latest stunt.

“Clark.” You leaned against his desk, smiling.

He looked up, attentive. “Yeah?”

“Could I borrow that highlighter?”

Clark glanced at the yellow highlighter beside his keyboard. You didn’t move to take it — just tilted your head slightly, sending a soft pulse of power his way, like a breeze brushing up against a mountain.

Stillness. Then, after a beat, he blinked and passed it to you, casual as ever.

“Thanks,” You said, watching him carefully.

“You’re welcome.” His smile was guileless — sweet and entirely unreadable.

That night, Superman rescued a train full of passengers just two blocks from your apartment. Clark skipped the staff happy hour.

You cornered him three days later.

The Daily Planet was nearly deserted. Perry had gone home, and Lois was asleep at her desk, worn out from of a day of chasing dead ends. Clark was in the bullpen, coat draped over one arm, bag slung over his shoulder, already halfway to the elevator when you stepped into his path.

He smiled when he saw you. “Hey. Burning the midnight oil?”

You didn’t bother with pleasantries. “You’re immune to me.”

He stilled — just for a moment, but it was enough.

You stepped closer. “Everyone else — one glance, one thought — and they’re bending over backwards. Doing favors. Oversharing. Letting me skip lines. But you…” Your eyes narrowed. “You never do anything I suggest unless you want to.”

Clark shifted his weight, expression unreadable. “Is that…a problem?”

“No,” You replied slowly. “It’s impossible.”

You studied him. Kind, powerful, gentle-eyed Clark Kent. The only person who’d ever helped you freely — not because you nudged him, but because he chose to.

Then, without a trace of psychic influence — just your voice — you said, “You’re not human, are you?”

A pause stretched between you. Then, softly: “No, I’m not.”

You exhaled. A quiet laugh. “Holy shit.”

Clark cast a quick glance around, as if someone might be listening. When he saw the coast was clear, he gave you a small, rueful smile. “I wasn’t trying to lie. I just didn’t want to assume you’d be okay with the truth.”

“I’ve been casually psychic-shoving half the office since day one,” You spoke dryly. “Pretty sure I lost the moral high ground a long time ago.”

That earned you a real smile, one that lingered. “You figured it out,” He said, like he was genuinely impressed.

“I had to. You were driving me insane.” You tilted your head, your voice softening. “Why don’t you tell people? You’re Superman. It’s not like anyone’s gonna stop inviting you to parties.”

Clark held your gaze — steady, warm — and then, gently: “Well, why don’t you?”

The words settled between you, quiet and heavy.

You didn’t respond.

You didn’t have to. Because for the first time since stepping into the bullpen, someone saw you — really saw you. Understood what it meant to live half a life in plain sight. The hiding. The restraint. The quiet ache of knowing you could change the world, if only you were willing to lose a piece of yourself in the process.

Two people, both wrapped in the same quiet lie, carrying truths just beneath the surface.

A moment passed. Then another.

And finally, you let out a slow breath, allowing the stillness to linger before tipping it towards something lighter.

“Clark?”

“Yeah?”

You jerked your head towards the elevator, a small smile tugging at your lips. “Wanna grab a coffee sometime? No psychic interference, I swear.”

That smile of his bloomed, slow and sure. “Yeah,” He said. “I’d really like that.”

A/N: Would die if they were jealous over me. Melt into a puddle. Gone.

When Viktor gets jealous he gets a bit more withdrawn than he usually is. Not that he was ever a social butterfly, however he was always more open and happy to talk when it was with you. So his behavior is odd, he even seems to get quieter whenever you walk into the room. Like he's trying to remove himself from you with silence.

"I am not avoiding you. Look, there has been a lot to do for the past week, I'm sorry if you got a bad impression but I was simply busy. If you want more company, go ask Jayce, or Skye, I'm sure they will be more than happy to entertain you, darling."

Viktor is short with his answers, saying as little as possible to minimize the amount of time he spends talking to you. Not because he doesn't want to talk to you, he loves talking to you, but if he keeps talking there's a chance he might say something he's going to regret. And end up hurting you.

"There you go again with these ridiculous accusations. You won't leave it alone will you? So now it's my fault that your project is running late? I would have been happy to help but someone was too busy talking with... you know what, nevermind. You're right, we both have a lot to do, so let's just drop this conversation and focus on work."

If you keep getting in the way of his work, Viktor will eventually come to a breaking point. Him not being able to work is only adding to his emotions, and he's never been the best at dealing with them. While he doesn't exactly yell at you, it's very rare that he ever raises his voice there's a notable frustration in his words, and pain, fear that you'd leave.

"If I'm being so unreasonable then leave. Go. Have fun. I know it's not idea to be cooped up in the lab all the time. There are so many more things to do out there. if you... want to go with other people I suppose I can't stop you, nor can I stop my own jealousy. How am I being even more unreasonable? I know you wouldn't leave me without talking about it. Look... I do not... want you to leave, working is more fun with you. But am I truly all that you want? Me? This lab? Because you're all I want. All that I can think of."

When Jayce gets jealous he keeps invading your personal space when you're around the person or people he's jealous of. His behavior is nothing innapropriate or pushy. It's just his arm around your waist, just him bringing you that drink you wanted, just him bragging about you a bit too loud and saying how much he loves you.

"You really are great, babe. How in Runterra did I ever find a beauty like you huh? What's that bashfulness for now, I always praise you, and I'm never gonna stop. You're my girl right? I can be a proud boyfriend and talk you up every once in a while."

Physical affection a big deal to Jayce and a way he shows he cares but also a giveaway to his jealousy. He holds your hand longer, his eyes flicker between you and the one he's jealous off, his smile is a bit more nervous when he has to leave you alone. Then there are his kisses, not as gentle, not a little, quick peck on the edge of your lips but a real kiss, lips pressed against yours until you let him know you need air.

"Got a bit carried away there. Ah, sorry, I can't resist you sometimes. All the time. Do you expect me to when you wear lipstick like that? Makes your lips look like they're made to be kissed. By me specifically. I'd kiss you all night long, for the rest of our lives and never get tired of it."

Jayce keeps denying that he's jealous when you bring it up in a teasing way. Logically there's no reason to get jealous, everyone knows your relationship is doing great, in fact you're hardly ever fighting and even when you are it doesn't last too long. How does he turn that part of his brain off? How can he not get jealous when all those people look at you the way he looks at you?

"They're always looking at you. How can you not notice? It's so obvious. You don't notice because... you're only looking at me? That doesn't even make sense! Of course they're looking, you're breathtaking everywhere you go. I just hope that wherever you go, you'll always take me with you, because I want to be by your side forever."

Ekko often jokes about being jealous so you don't pick up on him actually being jealous. A little jealousy is fine but not when it's getting in the way of his missions and operations with his team. He'd been a bit distracted in the past, by one of the Firelights flying too close to you, so he pushed his way between you two.

"It was the formation! Which you would have remembered if you weren't too busy chatting. Come on, Firefly, get your head in this. Otherwise you're gonna make your leader jealous. Wouldn't want that right? What if... what if you get demoted for it? Hey! Ow! I wouldn't demote you, who would listen to all my plans?"

When you have free time together Ekko makes sure to spend as much time with you as possible. If you're together all the time there's less chance that someone else will swoop in and flirt with you. He would never describe his behavior as being clingy, all he wants is to spend free time with his girlfriend. That is perfectly normal behavior.

"What do you say we go out to get some food? We don't have to spend all our time here. Not like the tree is gonna burn down if we're away for a couple of hours right? Besides it's been a while since it was just you and me all alone. Miss being alone with you. Don't you miss it too?"

If the person he's jealous of ever puts you in danger in any way Ekko will go off on them. Harder than he scolded others in the past. He might let some of his jealousy show then, but he storms off, well flies off before you can talk to him. As much as he wants to be alone he also makes room for you on his hoverboard when you float down next to him.

"Shouldn't have went off on them like that. I know, you don't gotta say it, I'll say I'm sorry. Let cool off a bit. You'd think that if they were flirting with you that much they could have been looking out a bit better. I'm always looking out for you. Maybe a bit too much. Sorry if I've been weird about it lately. Would you forgive me if I took you on a romantic hoverboard ride?"

No one wants to piss off a big man like Vander by flirting with his wife. Everyone values their life and their bones too much. But... they stare at you. Quite openly actually. You see it, and you bet he sees it too. He sees everything that's happening at his bar and he won't stand for someone ogling his wife, even if he has to get aggressive about it.

"It's my damn bar, I've got the right to break the table with their heads when they're looking at ya like that. Tell ya what, a lot more people would avoid this place if I started beating up every asshole that looks at ya wrong. Only reason I don't is cause I don't want ya to be mad at me after."

He hasn't banned anyone from his bar in a very long time. Vander knows he tolerates a lot, this is Zaun, and some people don't have the best manners, that's not exactly their fault. But on the other hand if they start something with him then he will finish it. When he tells them to stop looking at you like you like you were one of Babette's workers and they get in his face he will pick them up and throw them out.

"Bastards had it coming. I tried to be nice, then they had to go and call ya names. Ain't no way in hell I'm gonna let anyone insult my wife. Not here, not on the streets, not anywhere. I went there and I wanted to talk to them, tell them to fuck the hell off, they were the ones who started getting violent. So I responded in kind."

Vander calls you over to the bar a bit more often if he sees a particular table is trying to monopolize you. He carries some of the drinks over, the food plates too, or he simply walks up behind you when one of the guys is getting flirty. Seeing his imposing, huge frame behind you, his muscles bulging, is enough to get most to back off you.

"See, darlin', I can talk things out just fine. When people are being smart about it that is. Might have to stop selling so much booze in this place, then they won't be so bold with ya. Ya are a pretty sight, I can't say otherwise. But ya are a pretty sight for me, not them, ain't that right? Mhm. I know, I'm all yer's too."

Silco never ever says he's jealous of anyone. He is the most powerful man in all of Zaun, everyone is scared of him and with good reason. As the Eye of Zaun he knows when people are looking, talking too, and might even try to touch you. Those people are often payed a not so nice visit by his men.

"I did hear about that gang, yes. It's very unfortunate that they don't know how to keep their noses where they don't belong. It's not that big of a loss on our end. There are a hundred people who can do their work, and better. All that matters is that they won't even have to think about not touching you again."

He rarely has to get his own hands dirty when he gets jealous. All it takes is him saying who the target or targets are and he makes them dissapear from Zaun. That doesn't always have to be deadly, but if they're really dumb it is. If Silco feels that you're in some kind of danger then he will keep you close by. He tries to distract you from seeing he's jealous.

"All I'm saying is that we could take a break from work. Sevika and Jinx can handle a week of it. And you and me can lock ourselves up in our home and not come out. The bedroom works perfectly fine too, if you'd rather spend our time in there. And what is it that I'm doing, darling? Jealous? You are an observant one. I wouldn't want you any other way."

The only time Silco will threaten someone in person is if that someone is bold enough to flirt with you in front of them. He can scare people within an inch of their life just by talking to them, he's not just a good businessman, and some people tend to forget that. He has Zaun in the palm of his hand, and everyone in it.

"He did not actually piss himself. Did he actually. Hm, I wasn't look at him anymore to be honest. He was spineless, surprising given he talked to you like he did. Guess he was thinking with his other head a bit too much for his own good. Why are you looking at me that way? Ah, I see. Looks like someone enjoyed watching me put a scumbag into his place a bit too much."

Since Finn isn't someone who would take anything lying down he will be damned before he sees someone coming onto his woman and not do anything about it. He might have a certain charm about him but that doesn't mean he's not ready to makes heads roll the moment when someone crosses any kind of line with you. Imaginary or otherwise.

"Hah, did you see that doll? As soon as I threw one punch he went down. All his buddies ran like rats. Left him all alone there. After all that tough talk and he couldn't even defend himself. Serves him right. He's lucky all I did was break his nose when he flirted with you. I wasn't even that far away."

Finn will make out with you in front of who ever he is jealous of just to prove a point to them. And while he has you moaning, has your head buried against his neck and your body running hot he will look at the other person and stick his tongue out at them, right before making a V with his fingers and putting his tongue between them. He's vulgar but it gets the point across very well.

"All these people looking at what's mine. Now, I can't have that right? I love that you're showing off your body, it's a great body, you know how much I love it. But sometimes I want to keep you away from prying eyes. And if I can't the least I can do is give them a show. Make them know I'm the only one who can touch you."

His jacket is a signature part of his outfit, but Finn will let you wear it. Hell, he will walk over and drape it over your shoulders while not even looking at whoever you're talking to. Sometimes they're not worth looking at when he can look at the pretty way you blush as you touch his hand that's lingering on your shoulder.

"Thought you looked a bit cold there. Keep this on all night. Later on I'll help you warm up my way, a much more fun way. Don't even worry about your perfume getting all into this, love having your scent all over me. And by tomorrow you're gonna be wearing all of my marks."

There are a lot of people in the Enforcers who tease Marcus about having such a pretty wife. He knows you're pretty, but he doesn't like that the department is noticing it so much as well. Not that there's any way for him to hide it, or that he wants you to hide it, that would be a real crime.

"I was not pouting. That is so childish. I was glaring at them. Well, they were the ones who stared first. You visit me at work, like that's such a big deal. We're married, honey, I pick you up from work too. Why is it such a big deal here? I think they're just trying to get a rise out of me."

Won't deny that he's feeling jealous or shy away from showing it. When Marcus notices any of his men flirting with you he makes them work extra hard that day, he gives them more paperwork, something that everyone hates there, or assigns them to the toughest jobs that he knows will take them days to complete. He can't help but chuckle when you visit again and they're too tired to flirt with you, they just say hello.

"What do you mean I'm picking on them? Of course not. You know how hard it is to deal with all these extra cases. Someone has to take on a few more. No, the fact that it's the same Enforcers who gave you flowers that one time has nothing to do with it. You think it does? And do you have evidence of this accusation?"

Marcus isn't shy about kissing you in front of the whole department. If that's what it takes to send them all a clear message to back off. It's always perfectly chaste kisses, but he does make sure that everyone hears him say he loves you when you leave. He smirks when eyes turn to him and he wishes them all a good rest of their day.

"Now you call me petty. All of these accusations and you still don't have any evidence. That's not a very good way to have a case. You've been keeping count have you? Oh. You... actually have been keeping count? I'm guilty? Fine, you got me, you got me. Maybe... that was a little petty of me, but I'm not sorry."

Every time Loris is jealous it's almost impossible for him to hide that fact. He's a big guy, nothing about him is easy to his, not even his emotions. And he's loud, so every time he huffs, mumbles something, or grunts you hear it. Your eyes meet and he looks away, his hand grasping yours and running his thumb over the back of your hand.

'They were staring at you a bit too much for my liking, pretty girl. If they were as tough as they pretend they were they should have held their ground more. Proves they were all bark and no bite. People like that really get on my nerves, and then they talk to my girl like she's single."

Loris invites you to have lunch with him quite often, even more often when he gets jealous of someone who works with him. Dealing with them in any other way would be unprofessional of him, and might get him in trouble. This way he gets to avoid that, avoid them, and spend a nice lunch date with you. No matter how you look at it he's the real winner here.

"Looks so good. But if you keep looking at me like that I might get hungry for something else besides the food. Just try shifting the blame on me when you know exactly how you're looking at me right now. I wouldn't risk it at work, but... if you showed up with a few hickeys on your neck it might get the rest of the department to stop flirting with you."

As much as he tries to make his jealousy go away it's not easy. Loris knows he should be an example for others, after all he had been an Enforcer for a long time, he can't just let his emotions get the better of him. Hard to keep those emotions down when they concern you. If nothing else works he will intimidate people. Easy enough for him. But he would rather that be a last resort.

"If he wasn't ready to throw fists and words at me then he shouldn't have thrown flirty words at you. He should be able to back himself up if he's gonna be saying stuff like that. All I did was pick him up and throw him outside. Hey, I might get in a bit of trouble for it, but at least he'll leave you alone from now on. I'd risk my badge for you if I have to, you know that."

Since he is the quiet type Steb shows his emotions and jealousy is one that he works hard to surpress. Every time he notices that someone is standing a little too close to you he walks over and looks at you, lovingly, then he looks at the other person with a glare, a deadly one. All the while he's standing shoulder to shoulder with you.

"Come now, angelfish, they weren't even worth your time. We both know they only had one thing in mind when they were talking to you. I could see it in their eyes. I don't appreciate that they looked at you like that. And I know you don't either. So I felt like I had to step in."

He is very physical with his jealousy. Steb lets his eyes and touches linger a few moments longer when he wants to make a point to someone. While he knows you don't hate it he also doesn't want to come off as too jealous or too possessive over you. You can take care of yourself and he loves that about you, he's watched you put people in their place often, but there are times where he can't hold himself back.

"I could feel your fingers interlocking with mine. You wanted me to stand close to you when they weren't leaving you alone. Would you have raised your voice if I hadn't walked over? It would be amusing to see it. But I think those kisses we shared also sent an equally powerful message. You didn't have to bit me though."

Steb nuzzles his face into the crook of your neck when he's feeling really, really jealous of someone. He makes it look less possessive than it is, pretending like he's overhearing something you have to say, and then pushing himself just a little bit closer. His cold lips make contact with your neck, sending shivers down your body before he brushes your lips with his thumb and leaves with a smirk.

"That ought to be enough. I could have done more but marking you in public might have been a step too far. We can enjoy things like that in private however. I enjoy being close to you in any context, and if it makes others realize you're not looking for anyone because you've already got a man then I enjoy it even more."

(name) stared at the five, it was a depressing request and a selfish one.

"Get your souls back... And I'll be with you" (name) whispered, eyes threatening to spill tears "I-I don't want to get attached... We wouldn't see each other after I die... I don't want to be with you guys and have you all ripped away! I don't want to resent my sister for doing her job! I-I can't do that to myself or anyone else!"

(Name) Would love to be selfish but the reality of it all, he couldn't do it.

No matter how much the bond between them craved it.

"If we get our souls, you will be ours..." Jinu mumbled and (name) nodded "can we get to know you before then?"

"As friends, not a couple"

(Name) Knew it was a mistake but he could at least say he was friends with his soulmates, he wasn't going to let himself be hurt like this... How was he going to keep this from Mira?

"Then as friends... Would you care to watch a film with us?" Jinu asked and mystery pulled him close from behind "as friends" (name) mumbled "I can't leave the apartment though... It's too risky for me" (name) said softly while he was dragged to the couch and moved himself so Mystery wouldn't have him sitting in his lap, much to the demons annoyance.

"So... What movie are you guys thinking of?" (Name) Asked softly and Jinu wrapped his arm around (name)s shoulder "ah, just something simple..."

It wasn't simple it wasn't simple!

They knew better than to use paranormal movies instead, Train to Busan played on and (name) wanted to sink into the couch but tried to be brave for the alphas who could smell his fear, baby wanting to lick the tears building up in his eyes so badly.

God (name) was so perfect, so pretty and smelt so good... They wanted to tear that bite collar off with their teeth.

But unfortunately they had to play nice with their omega, play by his rules but they knew he wouldn't be able to hold out long.

"You ok, (name)?" Jinu asked softly and (name) shakily nodded "y-yeah totally..." (Name) Said sheepishly and Romance chuckled "are you sure? You're shaking like a leaf" he teased and (name) glared softly at him "am not!"

The two went back and forth, the others watching in amusement while the movie ended and (name) glanced at the time "you guys are gonna wanna leave... Mira is coming to check on me"

"Well... We will see you soon" Jinu said softly and Abby winked at him, the boys vanishing out of thin air.

"Pretending to get your soul back to earn his trust... Very good" Gwi ma said lowly and the Saja boys looked at the king with false confidence "of course, getting close to him makes it easier to destroy HUNTR/X" Jinu spoke firmly "sacrificing your own soulmate for souls... Truly you are just as selfish as when you died" Jinu hated this feeling, the feeling of selling out his soulmate "of course, my king"

"After all, why would someone like him be with the likes of you?"

(Name) Watched the Hommoon weaken more and more from his window, the smell of distress heavy in the room while Mira stepped into the apartment "I know... It's bad"

"So many people are gone, the news keeps talking about the spike in missing persons reports..." (Name) Mumbled and his elder sister hugged him from behind "I know-- were trying our best"

"As long as you do your best, I believe in you" his words soft and his sister hugged him tighter "thanks, brat"

"Of course, ass"

(Name) Couldn't tell his sister about his deal with the Saja boys, he knew how upset she would be... He would be upset too honestly.

Especially if she saw him playing Mario Kart with romance and Baby, mystery watching from the couch with Abby. Jinu was doing something... (Name) Ignored not having all five of them near and the way it made his Omega so upset, so instead he took those emotions out on destroying the two alphas in Mario kart.

And damn, Baby was really good at it.
