Very Minor Spoiler for Episode 7 (S2) of Rings of Power
Thinking casually about Galadriel's declaration earlier this season that caring for that which is most fragile and most dear is the duty entrusted to all elves and how Celebrimbor's gentle care in noticing and greeting that little mouse is what allowed him to see past Sauron's deception. :)
#the rings of power#trop season 2#trop spoilers#celebrimbor#“hello mister mouse” what if I weep?#The way that caring for even the most fragile or insignificant of things is how you defeat darkness#the mouse is the message of the entire show#this whole season#galadriel was wrong when she asked elrond to put defeating sauron above all other goals: even her life#because abandoning your friends to peril or death in the pursuit of the destruction of evil is never the message#and we're going to see that play out with nori and the stranger the way we saw it play out with elrond and galadriel the way it played#out with miriel and elendil the way it played out with galadriel and celebrimbor the way it played out with new southlands girl and isildur#the way it played out with gil galad and elrond the way it played out with arondir and theo the way it played out with berek and isildur#the way it will play out with elrond and durin the same way it has always played out from sam and frodo to aragorn legolas and gimli#with merry and pippin or in standing by those in need like bilbo with thorin and company like#this is the story <3

Ranking all the Kings of Gondor
Based on what, you may ask? Vibes. Let's go.
Eldacar. Twenty-first King. THE bestest boy in the legendarium. The hero of the Kin-strife, the archetype of immigrant child trauma, the exiled king, the vengeful father... we love him so so so much ok!!
Aragorn. First High King of the Reunited Kingdom. Yes I know your list would put him at the top but this is my list and I do what I want. Anyway he's wise and kind and "the hands of the king are the hands of a healer" and he's brave and clever and has an excellent fairy-tale romance going on and I am very much not immune to Viggo Mortensen covered in blood with unwashed hair.
Elendil. First High King. He's brave he's cool he's wise he DEFEATED SAURON. Love him.
Isildur. Second High King (co-ruler). Justice for my boy the movies did him so so dirty!! Anyway he saved the line of the White Tree and fought so so bravely and he did his best. I will not countenance Isildur slander actually.
Valacar. Twentieth King. Ranks this highly mostly because he's my blorbo Eldacar's father, but Valacar is cool! His father sent him to the Northmen to build an alliance and Valacar promptly fell in love with their chief's daughter instead. And then Vidumavi died long before he ever even became King and you have to wonder if Valacar feared he would outlive his children too :(
Aldamir. Twenty-third King. Also ranking highly mostly because of genetic proximity to my guy, but Aldamir is sooo tragic actually. He's a second son who never should have become King except his older brother was MURDERED and maybe he spent the rest of his life trying to live up to him!! Also he was also killed in battle which I am sad about. This family cannot catch a break.
Eärnur. Thirty-third and last King. This is the idiot who challenged the Witch-king of Angmar to single combat and was never seen again, but I have a soft spot for him on account of. that was really sexy.
Eldarion. Second High King of the Reunited Kingdom. We don't know much about Aragorn and Arwen's son, but movie!Eldarion is very cute which is enough to earn him a high rank.
Rómendacil II. Nineteenth King. An all-round competent guy who ruled as regent for years for first his lazy uncle and then his lazy father. Built the Argonath!! Also he's Eldacar's grandfather which again earns him points.
Eärnil II. Thirty-second King. Ended up with the crown after his predecessor and both his sons were killed in battle (although NOT his daughter. JUSTICE FOR FÍRIEL). Anyway Eärnil strikes me as a decent guy who was doing his best. Props to him for taking pains not to alienate the Dúnedain of Arthedain.
Ondoher. Thirty-first King. The aforementioned predecessor, who is mostly ranked highly because I feel bad that he died :( and he tried to ensure Gondor would still have an heir to the throne if he and his eldest son were killed! But his youngest son joined the battle in disguise and got killed anyway!
Minardil. Twenty-fifth King. Another tragic one, he was Eldacar's great-grandson and was slain in battle by the descendants of Castamir. I am upset about this.
Meneldil. Third King. We don't know much about him, but he was the first solo ruler of Gondor and also the last child born in Númenor before the Downfall, which is cool.
Telumehtar. Twenty-eighth King. Finally got rid of the last descendants of Castamir, excellent work.
Calimehtar. Thirtieth King. Defeated the Wainriders attacking Gondor in a great alliance with the Northmen, which we love to see. Also he built the White Tower of Minas Anor! Good for him.
Anárion. Second High King (co-ruler). He was initally a lot higher on the list because I feel for him always being overshadowed by his father and brother, but then I learned he was killed by a THROWN ROCK which is kind of pathetic ngl. Sorry, Anárion.
Tarondor. Twenty-seventh King. Had the unenviable task of rebuilding the realm after it was ravaged by the Great Plague, but unfortunately he moved out of Osgiliath for good (which makes me unreasonably sad. I love Osgiliath) and also allowed the watch on Mordor to lapse for good.
Eärendil. Fifth King. We don't know much about him, but his name is nice.
Anardil. Sixth King. We don't know much about him, but his name is also nice.
Telemnar. Twenty-sixth King. Died in the Great Plague, sad for him I guess.
Narmacil II. Twenty-ninth King. Slain in battle with Wainriders, made no impression on me at all.
Siriondil. Eleventh King. We know very little about him, but that's a good name.
Cemendur. Fourth King. Boring and doesn't even have a good name.
Turambar. Ninth King. Mainly this low down because THAT'S A TERRIBLE NAME WHAT ARE YOU THINKING.
Hyarmendacil II. Twenty-fourth King. Defeated the Haradrim in battle, good for him I guess.
Atanatar I. Tenth King. No personality. I don't like his name either.
Rómendacil I. Eighth King. Defeated some Easterlings in battle, but apparently not very well because they later killed him. Oh well.
Ciryandil. Fourtheenth King. A Ship-king, and I don't like Ship-kings (mostly because Castamir tried to be a Ship-king).
Ostoher. Seventh King. Didn't do much, although he started the practice of the King spending his summer in Minas Anor. Good for him? I guess?
Eärnil I. Another Ship-king. Died in a great storm, which is one of the perils associated with being a Ship-king!
Calmacil. Eighteenth King. Generally incompetent. Gains a couple of points for being Eldacar's great-grandfather.
Narmacil I. Seventeenth King. Also pretty incompetent. He let his nephew do all the work of ruling for him.
Atanatar II. Sixteenth King. Lived in indolence and splendour, and neglected the watch on Mordor which was not very wise of him!
Hyarmendacil I. Fifteenth King. Ok he actually sucks. The King who defeated the Haradrim and instituted the practice of taking their sons as hostages to live in the court of Gondor.
Tarannon. Twelfth King. The first of the Ship-kings, also known for his loveless marriage to his wife Berúthiel who gets blamed for everything for some reason.
Castamir the Usurper. (Technically) twenty-second King. Should not be on this list and is here purely so that I can say. FUCK. THIS. GUY.

This is when Sauron is in Numenor, doing his thing, persuading people to do terrible stuff, being sleazy and charming and all that, laughing at thunderstorms, you know, normal totally NOT suspicious things to do.
Basically. I wanted to do something more 'serious' than usual, or rather put more effort in. And I've got LOTR on the brain. Specifically the Silmarillion and the Appendices (I think that's how you spell it) and all that. I wanted to do dramatic lighting. So I did.
(even if it took a lot longer than anticipated and it is now 1am...)
Twas worth it!
Cause it looks cool

THE SOUTHLANDS & NUMENOR
I love and enjoy EVERY arc in this series so much, but I feel like the Southlands arcs and characters often go under the radar and are underappreciated. But I love them, your honor.
And with how S2 ended with them has me thinking a lot lately, and I'm VERY excited about it. Because Numenor and the Southlands are mirrors of each other.
Numenor is the greatest kingdom of men. Gifted by the Valars for the bravery of their ancestors. The Southlands are poor, without a king and always under the elves' foot for their ancestors' sins. Númenor starts at the top and the Southlands starts at the bottom.
It was very clear to me from the ending of S2 that these two arcs are going in opposite directions, and I absolutely love it.
Numenor is going to be about the loss of the path of its people, the division, the hunger for power and corruption that eventually leads to Akallabêth.
The Southlanders arc has been about losing absolutely everything, and the struggles of surviving, the desperation for survival that leads to dark paths, being abandoned and considered leverage and low by everyone else, struggles of coming together and learning to work together and protect each other and overcome the darkness.
I love the Southlanders arc because it shows the struggles of lower people when all the other important characters (except the Harfoots) are the upper class of their respective races. They suffer the consequences of everyone's actions the most.
That's why their little adventure with the Ents was important to them (and Isildur, as future king in Middle Earth), it's the start of a journey of unity and an understanding of their surroundings. Now that Kemen, the number one asshole, arrives and treats them like shit, they must stay together and endure (or kill Kemen, I wouldn't complain either).
Now, there are a lot of parallels I've seen between their characters.
Starting with the love of my life and someone I'll always be bitter about because they took her from me; Bronwyn. I feel like Bronwyn was meant to parallel Elendil a lot. Bronwyn is not queen nor noble, but she's the leader that eventually rises up when needed. I'll always be bitter that they took her away from me because her character had so much potential, and she was so interesting.
Then there are Theo and Isildur. At the beginning of their stories, they are both sort of lost. Theo is bratty, a teenager who wants to do something, and so is Isildur. They both have complicated relationships with their father/father figures (aka Elendil and Arondir), and feel the need to prove their worth. And on S2 they both go through a lot of growth. Despite Theo going back to having a troublesome relationship with Arondir at the start, he's just grieving for his mother. And Isildur has to deal with being left behind and the memories of his mother coming back. And in the end, Theo is lord of Pelagir, and Isildur will eventually become king. Whenever Theo is meant to become a Nazgul, the Witch King or the King of the Death, his path will parallel Isildur a lot.
Me, personally, would love to see Theo become king and a rightful leader. To not have a tragic ending, but if he does anyway, I'll eat it up. I truly believe Hagen will become the King of the Death.
Now, one of the most delicious parallels, in my opinion, is that the Southlands were destroyed by fire, while Númenor is going to be destroyed by water. It is just delicious to think about it.
Going forward to the story, now that Pharazon has taken the throne, and it's just downhill for Númenor, I'm excited to see the rise of the Southlanders. I'm so excited to see them having to deal with Kemen and his man, and how they'll move forward.
LONG LIVE THE SOUTHLANDS!
#the rings of power#trop#rings of power#text#thoughts#isildur#theo rings of power#theo is my son#bronwyn might have died but she'll always live in me#cause i love that kid#you all will never make me hate plotlines that arent the elves#bronwyn#elendil

So you mean to tell me that Earien and Kemen had a lots of scenes in season one, where he was pursuing her and she liked him back but was more unsure ,and that she also “””used””” him so he could talk to his dad about the politics ,that both their moms have died and their two dads are clearly not being fair to them in terms of parenting ,her brother saved Kemens life .Him and his father are the only ones who are validating her grief .She helped his father to rise into power and she’s now lowkey regretting it cause she realizes he’s a tyrant but while Earien isn’t liking what is happening and is only submitting out of fear and even tries to help at times ,Kemen clearly revels in doing all these bad things . They also stand close a lot of scenes even tho they don’t talk ,her friend Valandil who is not grieving like her ,loathes Kemen for speaking badly of Miriel ,woman she herself does also not like ,but despite everything she still clearly cares for Valandil who then gets murdered by her boyfriend after he spared him .(And we are NEVER shown the reaction to his death for some reason). She’s a incredibly talented girl who isn’t religious like her father and she’s making bad decisions out of grief and he’s basically an arrogant and cruel guy who is clearly insecure inside .
And with all this material (esp since he and Isildur are having a huge beef and she literally helped to put this tyrant king BECAUSE of Isildur most of all AND now there’s the power imbalance AND she helped Elendil escape) …..they didn’t even get a scene to TALK ?
#WHAT#come on they could serve some fail teenage relationship#like they could be SO interesting#like first of all why does like her so much (I get him but I wanna hear his reasoning) why does SHE like him ? does she STILL like him ?#does HE ? why are they sticking to the other ? are they projecting ? is there any genuine care ? COME ONNNN#Earien x Kemen#earien#Kemen#Valandil#tar Miriel#miriel#Elendil#Isildur#ar pharazon#viola.txt

if someone is wondering why am i religiously posting about 90% of elves/celebrimbor scenes and posted exactly 0 times about numenor, the answer is because i don't care.
#i fucking hate court intrigue#also earien really rubs me the wrong way#apart of all her other choices#kemen.#really girl???#out of the whole numenor you decided that kemen is the one#it really tells me all i need to know#this era of numenor is so frustrating i can't#give me mariner's wife#give me the founding of numenor#do not give me pharazon the bitch and his slimy son#elendil and isildur are obviously fine#as is my boy berek#if there was an episode dedicated solely to elendil's unresolved grief i could write an entire book on that#beacuse look at him#*slaps his fine ass*#this bad boy can fit so much angst and suffering in him#but earien kemen and pharazon literally make me pause the episode every 10 seconds to pace my frustration out#stupid fucking bitches#rings of power#numenor#ar pharazon#earien#kemen#elendil#isildur#berek#silmarillion#honestly even reading the fall of numenor is so frustrating to me#tolkien

Elendil makes this genre of face whenever he's mildly perturbed. Peeved. Perplexed. His flabbers gasted
#personal faves are the middle + bottom right + middle 2 on the left (which are all coincidentally related to Isildur being a menace)#Lloyd said in an interview that Isildur reminds Elendil of his younger self#which really explains his reactions to him getting up to shenanigans lmao#not to cover up the cute little shrimp in the meme BUT#all of these except the top left one are from season 1#however that look of confused concern to Earien reminded me of the others#I'm sure there's about to be a lot more he looks quite befuddled in the preview when Miriel puts her hand on his chest#Elendil#Lloyd Owen#The Rings of Power#Elendilf#Rings of Power#TROP#ROP#the lord of the rings#the lord of the rings: the rings of power#lotr: rop#lotr#Numenor#lotr memes#rop memes#trop memes#me when im huh??? im wuh????#that tag is not gonna help me find this again later lol

What I want to see in the Rings of Power:
Sauron finding out about Shelob and thinkin, yea, best guard dog ever
Elrond building Imladris
Weathertop. Messenger riding past it or something. Just a little easter egg
Building / settling in Arnor
That awkward moment when Elrond has to ask Galadriel for Celebrian's hand
Elrond meeting Elendil and kids, and thinking they look just like his brother Elros
Just give me Celeborn meeting Galadriel again and the first thing he does is looses his sh*t over everything she's done
Isildur bringing the stone of Erech from Númenor, because how???
Just more Middle-earth
