"Don't you want to skip over the mindless drudgery that is making art?"
This is what gives me an utter contempt for AI "writing" and those who... make isn't the word, prompt it. Same goes for AI generated "art," but I'm not much of a visual artist. The process isn't mindless drudgery, it's the point. To keep to writing because I do way more of it, there is absolutely no part of the process I'd ever give away to a machine. Every part of it is discovery, learning, choices, none of which a generative algorithm can do! I cannot overstate the glee I get out of making tiny word choices that foreshadow things, or say something about a character.
Also, the process is integral to it actually being a story in the first place. If I gave a machine all the characters and told it to write a story, it'd be utter drivel with no thought given to arcs, no thought given to themes, no thought given to the future, because a generative algorithm isn't capable of it. It's not a story; it's a word spaghetti whipped up to look like a story, because that's all the AI knows - what a story looks like. It has no understanding of what's under the hood. I have novels worth of planning for my epic-length main project, an 'AI' is not remotely capable of that work, and it is that work that makes my story a story at all, and a story I can be proud of showing. Knowing someone used 'AI' to generate their story makes me think less of the story and think less of them, because they obviously didn't care about the story enough to make sure it was actually told properly. It's an insult to me that they think I should even want to read that, let alone take up their craven tools.
The quote in the retweeted tweet on iamwhatismissing's reblog is the mindset of a content creator who thinks what matters is that something gets uploaded and gets ad views, so who gives a shit about the actual thing that gets uploaded? But the entire reason I write is to give a shit about the thing I show people. To tell a story I wrote. If it's not my story, if it's been dismembered from a prompt and reconstituted in its worst, most worthless, form by a machine, what fucking point is there in me pretending it's worth telling in that form? I don't write for clout, and these clods suggesting that them acting as the human interface between the grimy sewer output of a shitty AI and a content platform is in any way equivalent to me writing is a fucking insult to everything I hold dear.

So... @muffinlance wrote a really awesome story. I read a post from a point in time, though I truly do not remember when since it seems like I've been working on this project forever, saying that she gives blanket permission for people to print and bind the story into a book (I think there was an also addendum saying that they do not give permission to be sold, since selling fic is illegal). This fic has had total control over my whole brain since it was sent to me (@creatorofthemind I believe it was you, so thank you forever for tuning me into it) back during the days of like chapter six or seven.
So here I am now, sharing this amazing journey of my first ever bookbinding adventure. Further reading below.
So to give you an idea of what's going on, this is a fanfiction about Zuko (Avatar the Last Airbender) (animated show version, the LA show did not exist yet and we do not speak of the movie) being adopted by Hakoda, Father of Katara and Zuko. (This might have also been what kicked off the Give Zuko A Parent craze, but don't fact check me.)
Overall, the characters from the show stick very well to the cannon versions, but where MuffinLance really shines is in the rich backstories and fleshed out feeling of all the non cannon elements. Especially the background characters. I would argue that the writing in this peice of fanwork could easily rival the cannon show at many points of comparison.
Now that you have context, we can get into the actual process.
To start, I used this guide to figure out where to even begin, and fount the included resource list to also be quite helpful. I cannot for the LIFE OF ME figure out where I found the template I used for the front matter and such, but it must be somewhere and I will link to it when I inevitably come across it again.
Then I began to typeset. This step took... a long time. I worked in chunks from about September of 2022 to late March of 2024. I would get a big section done, sometimes even the entire thing, but then find I hated the way I had done it and give up for months at a time. Such is the life of ADHD and flitting interest in projects I suppose.
And then finally, step one was done, and I was left with pages on a word document that look like this. (And do please let me know if you want the link to the document. It was so much work, and I would love to not be the only one to use it.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next step was printing out this beast. Ended up being about eight pages of front matter, and about 630 pages of body text.
That I printed wrong.
Tumblr media
Twice.
Tumblr media
Before finally getting it right. And then not getting a picture of it, because I finished at 4 am and had work at 7, and am also an idiot.
Then I simply stitched along, putting everything together into a beautiful text block.
Tumblr media
And came up with a design for the cover.
Tumblr media
Yes the glue did end up lumpy. Ignore it.
Yes I did have to sketch out the design onto a scraped page several times before I figured out what I was doing. Ignore that too.
The cover design does wrap around the entire cover. No I did not get a picture before I glued the thing down. See again: I'm an idiot. And just... massively impatient.
Finally, we get to the stage of gluing. Behold, my bookpress.
Tumblr media
Of course, topped with Madam MuffinLances own actual professional-people book, Fox's Tounge and Kirin's Bone. It is Excelent. Here is the LINK so you can go and support this amazing author with the real-monies as well as the internet-kudos.
Then, once everything is glued together, one must give the book its "gilt" edges.

PRIVATE SYSTEM SERVER.
Hello. As a show of my ability, I have created a private system server template for you to use. While "private" is in the name, I have included two access roles (Friend and Trusted Friend)—however I have not done any permissions for them. There is a Bot role that has permissions for them, like access to the System Setup category.
And, like the last template, only traumagenic systems can interact with this blog and use my templates. Endogenic systems and their supporters get blocked.
Tumblr media
Note that not every single channel is in this gif, just the ones I deemed the most important to show.
Use the template here, however do note that the announcement channel and all of the forums channels will not copy over, and you will have to add them yourself: Private System Server Template
I am okay with you editing my template for your own use. Do not redistribute as your own.
If you need any help, you can leave an ask in my inbox.
Tumblr media
Explanations for channels under the cut. LONG, BUT PRETTY DAMN IMPORTANT TO READ.
Tumblr media
All forum channels are marked with a speech bubble emoji 💬 in front of them; those are channels that you will miss. The single announcement channel that also will be missing is marked with a mega emoji 📢.
#welcome - When someone joins the server, they will not see any channels, and you must give them a role so they can access this the server. You can see their welcome message here so you know someone's joined.
📢 update-status-fronting - If a switch happens, you put up a DNI, or want to otherwise warn people about your current state, you can update it here.
🔇 layout by 1 800 pain on tumblr - Feel free to delete this.
Tumblr media
Text channels:
#bot - This is the only channel that has "Use application commands" permissions on it. If you would like to set it on other channels, you'd have to do it manually—or you can add it to the @everyone tag.
💬 dms - In the title, I put "[DM/GC] Channel name" under the post, then write the participants. I have a tag system for this channel (see below).
💬 thoughts - Headmates' thinking time. I also have a tag system for this channel (see below).
💬 mailbox - Essentially, I create a channel with a headmate's name and there are two tags: Read and Unread. Read means they've read the messages people leave for them, and Unread means they have yet to read them. It's a simple way to communicate with headmates who are not fronting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
System Setup:
All servers here are unable to be chatted in; only any member with the Bot role can do that. I enjoy setting up my PluralKit work into a few separate categories:
#resources - Easy access to Simply Plural, Notion, Evernote, or various places I get PNGs to set up PluralKit profiles—things of that nature and related to it.
#pk-setup - For descriptions and things.
#pk-pfps (not in gif) - To add profile pictures and banners. I put it in its own space because it's a different type of spam, image-based spam, than pk-setup, which is mostly text-based spam.
#new-arrivals - For showing people who made their PluralKit account, mainly for documentation.
#pk-spam - Just general things that don't quite relate to the ones above; typically things like pk;r.
💬 image-resources - If you change your icons or banners a lot, this can help. I put icons/banners here with credits to the original artist, the original art, and the edited version we use in our profiles. It's tagged by Icon, Faceclaim, Banners, etc.
#pk-log (hidden, not in gif) - To store PluralKit messages. If you also would like, you can add a more general moderation bot (such as Carl-bot) to also store non-PK messages.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
System-centric:
#to-do: Self-explanatory; got any plans? Put them here.
#sys-chat: More general system chatter.
#sys-work: Talk about... system work.
#headmate-observations: If you notice something about your headmate—such as a positive/negative trigger, a various quirk they have, or any idea how their role works—share it here.
💬 headspace: A headspace forum to talk about headspace. More information in the image below.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The collection of the channels that you will miss, check the images above for extended information:
📢 update-status-fronting (uncategorized)
💬 dms (in general category)
💬 thoughts (in general category)
💬 mailbox (in general category)
💬 image-resources (in System Setup category)
💬 headspace (in System-centric category)

Hey guys! I'm opening character reference sheet commissions!
Base pricing starts at $75 (USD) and that includes the full body character art + text details. But I'm offering LOTS of different add-ons so you can customize the reference sheet for your needs!
Below, I have an example sheet showing off the different add-ons along with an order form. I'm also offering character design AND character outfit design services for additional fees, which can also be found under the cut.
how to order:
send me a message on tumblr (begaydoalchemy) or discord (begaydoalchemy) and we can talk about what you're looking for, and discuss any sort of character design + character outfit services if that's what you're looking for.
then I'll have you fill out the form I have listed below, i would prefer if you could fill out the details + attach your images in one document so i have an easier time accessing everything (google docs or PDF works just fine!)
I take payment up front via ko-fi, once I receive payment I will start working on the sketch(s) for your reference. I typically try to have approval sketches sent out in about week, but will keep you updated if things may take longer. For bigger orders I'll send out progress updates but feel free to ask for updates as well!
Here's an example reference sheet with my own character, including the pricing for each add-on + the total price
Tumblr media
Order form:
Character Name: full character name/name you want on the sheet + any nicknames you'd want included
Basic Character Details: gender/sexuality, pronouns, age, or any symbols (like hsr/genshin element/class icons), pride flags, etc
Additional Character Details: titles, occupation, fandom related character info, short bullet points for relevant character backstory details, etc
Design Details: including important features, like scars/freckles/missing limbs/etc
Outfit Details: Including important accessories like glasses/jewelry/scarves/patterns/etc
Extra things to know: including character quirks or facts that might help me out when drawing your character(s)
I also require some sort of visual reference for your character: piccrew & dollmakers are heavily encouraged if you have nothing else, I will have to charge character design fees for non visual references (+$40-$50 fee)
For extra charges, I can also design outfits for your characters with existing visual designs! these fees would cost less than a complete character design (+$25-$35 fee)
Please let me know first if you'd like me to design a character/character outfit for you and we can discuss from there!
Images: Please also send/attach ANY relevant character images, including other art/fanart of your character, piccrew/dollmaker images, pictures of clothing/models/etc, any other images that you with would help aesthetically as well!!

New Cloud Translation AI Improvements Support 189 Languages
Tumblr media
189 languages are now covered by the latest Cloud Translation AI improvements.
Your next major client doesn’t understand you. 40% of shoppers globally will never consider buying from a non-native website. Since 51.6% of internet users speak a language other than English, you may be losing half your consumers.
Businesses had to make an impossible decision up until this point when it came to handling translation use cases. They have to decide between the following options:
Human interpreters: Excellent, but costly and slow
Simple machine translation is quick but lacks subtleties.
DIY fixes: Unreliable and dangerous
The problem with translation, however, is that you need all three, and conventional translation techniques are unable to keep up. Using the appropriate context and tone to connect with people is more important than simply translating words.
For this reason, developed Translation AI in Vertex AI at Google Cloud. Its can’t wait to highlight the most recent developments and how they can benefit your company.
Translation AI: Unmatched translation quality, but in your way
There are two options available in Google Cloud‘s Translation AI:
A necessary set of tools for translation capability is the Translation API Basic. Google Cloud sophisticated Neural Machine Translation (NMT) model allows you to translate text and identify languages immediately. For chat interactions, short-form content, and situations where consistency and speed are essential, Translation AI Basic is ideal.
Advanced Translation API: Utilize bespoke glossaries to ensure terminology consistency, process full documents, and perform batch translations. For lengthy content, you can utilize Gemini-powered Translation model; for shorter content, you can use Adaptive Translation to capture the distinct tone and voice of your business. By using a glossary, improving its industry-leading translation algorithms, or modifying translation forecasts in real time, you can even personalize translations.
What’s new in Translation AI
Increased accuracy and reach
With 189-language support, which now includes Cantonese, Fijian, and Balinese, you can now reach audiences around the world while still achieving lightning-fast performance, making it ideal for call centers and user content.
Smarter adaptive translation
You can use as little as five samples to change the tone and style of your translations, or as many as 30,000 for maximum accuracy.
Choosing a model according to your use case
Depending on how sophisticated your translation use case is, you can select from a variety of methods when using Cloud Translation Advanced. For instance, you can select Adaptive Translation for real-time modification or use NMT model for translating generic text.
Quality without sacrificing
Although reports and leaderboards provide information about the general performance of the model, they don’t show how well a model meets your particular requirements. With the help of the gen AI assessment service, you can choose your own evaluation standards and get a clear picture of how well AI models and applications fit your use case. Examples of popular tools for assessing translation quality include Google MetricX and the popular COMET, which are currently accessible on the Vertex gen AI review service and have a significant correlation with human evaluation. Choose the translation strategy that best suits your demands by comparing models and prototyping solutions.
Google cloud two main goals while developing Translation AI were to change the way you translate and the way you approach translation. Its deliver on both in four crucial ways, whereas most providers only offer either strong translation or simple implementation.
Vertex AI for quick prototyping
Test translations in 189 languages right away. To determine your ideal fit, compare NMT or most recent translation-optimized Gemini-powered model. Get instant quality metrics to confirm your decisions and see how your unique adaptations work without creating a single line of code.
APIs that are ready for production for your current workflows
For high-volume, real-time translations, integrate Translation API (NMT) straight into your apps. When tone and context are crucial, use the same Translation API to switch to Adaptive Translation Gemini-powered model. Both models scale automatically to meet your demands and fit into your current workflows.
Customization without coding
Teach your industry’s unique terminology and phrases to bespoke translation models. All you have to do is submit domain-specific data, and Translation AI will create a unique model that understands your language. With little need for machine learning knowledge, it is ideal for specialist information in technical, legal, or medical domains.
Complete command using Vertex AI
With all-inclusive platform, Vertex AI, you can use Translation AI to own your whole translation workflow. You may choose the models you want, alter how they behave, and track performance in the real world with Vertex AI. Easily integrate with your current CI/CD procedures to get translation at scale that is really enterprise-grade.
Real impact: The Uber story
Uber’s goal is to enable individuals to go anywhere, get anything, and make their own way by utilizing the Google Cloud Translation AI product suite.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
August 30th 1624 saw the death of Esther Inglis, calligrapher and miniaturist.
Esther Inglis, daughter of a French immigrant, was a celebrated calligrapher. She produced exquisitely illuminated documents and little books, illustrated with flowers. Her parents, Nicolas Langlois and Marie Presot, were French Huguenots who took refuge in England in about 1569, later settling in Edinburgh. Their daughter Esther seems always to have used the surname ‘Inglis’, the Scottish form of Langlois.
In 1596, Esther married Bartholomew Kello, and by 1604 had moved with him to London. They had six children, of whom four lived to adulthood. Kello, a clergyman, had a church in Essex between 1607 and 1614. In 1615 the family returned to Edinburgh.
Esther went on to become an exceptionally skilled calligrapher (calligraphy is the design and execution of decorative handwriting), illustrator and embroiderer. Her manuscripts vary from religious texts and psalms to secular (non-religious) works - which Inglis transcribed - to designs for emblems (symbolic pictures) and heraldic arms.
She often dedicated her manuscripts to members of the Elizabethan and Jacobean court, and high-ranking European protestants. Often presented as gifts in diplomatic exchange, it is believed that Inglis's early works may have been used to support the negotiations leading up to James VI’s accession to the English throne.Inglis was multilingual and wrote in Latin, Scots and French. From 1599 her manuscripts, which are miniature in scale, also include tiny self-portraits which promoted her authorship and talent. These images are the earliest known self-portraits by a female artist working in Britain.
Her intricate illustrations often feature animals, flowers and fruit, and Inglis may have used emblem books (books of symbolic pictures often accompanied by mottoes, morals or poems) as a source of inspiration for her designs. Inglis was multitalented and she also embroidered her bound manuscripts, using precious metal threads and seed pearls (tiny natural pearls less than 2mm in size) on velvet. Her works transcend the traditional boundaries of text, visual and textile art forms, and as such she occupies a unique place in European and Scottish renaissance culture.
Despite her talent and prestigious clients, by her death Inglis had accrued significant debts. She died in Leith in August 1624, the dates differ a wee bit.
Today around sixty of her surviving works are recorded in public and private collections across the world. Some of the most decorative and accomplished works can be found in the National Library of Scotland, the Royal Collection Trust and the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C.
The portrait of Esther Inglis can be seen at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery as part of our Reformation to Revolution display.
The University of St Andrews purchased some of her work over ten years ago, you can learn more about her and view some of the pics at the link below.

Current Events: Sagutoyas
No community is immune to problematic people, nor will every creator prove to be deserving of the platform they occupy. Such is the case for Sagutoyas, a once-popular creator in the Warriors animation community, now revealed to be completely undeserving of it.
Tumblr media
[Alt Text: Sagutoyas' YouTube profile picture of her fursona Sally against an electric blue background: Artist credit]
Sagutoyas (or Sally) is a 25-year-old Swedish self-proclaimed artist, author, and animator. She began her career creating content on Youtube in 2012, posting speedpaints of primarily her own original characters. She wouldn’t post her first Warriors-related video until 2016, a work-in-progress of a Multi-Animator-Project (MAP) part for Sparrow’s World’s “I’ll Make a Man Out of You” MAP. In the following years, Sally’s expressive animations would quickly rise to popularity, and she would continue to find success and growing support making MAP parts, animation memes, and even hosting projects herself.
Sally’s content was not limited to Warrior Cats animations and artwork, but she quickly became well-known within the fandom specifically. In only six years, she amassed a subscriber count of around 154k on Youtube. However, in light of recent events, that count has dropped by several thousand subscribers in the span of only two days.
Before we continue, this is a good time to dispense a quick trigger warning. The following paragraphs discuss allegations of grooming and the sending NSFW content to minors. No explicit images are shown, but they are mentioned, and censored versions are contained in some of the linked documents. Please keep yourself safe.
Earlier this week, a Google Docs document was released on Twitter regarding events that took place primarily in 2018/2019, outlining allegations against Sagutoyas for grooming, dating an underaged person, and behaving inappropriately in a chat that contained minors. The original document was taken down due to Google’s TOS, but an archive of it can be found here. (A further trigger warning for that document can be found within.)
For several months in 2018-19, Sally engaged in a non-platonic relationship with another creator (now going by the name “Sol”) when she was over 20 and he was 17, but the majority of their interactions would begin when the victim was only freshly 16, including a confession of feelings for each other. Sally would continuously ask Sol to keep their relationship on the down-low; she knew what she was doing would have consequences for her reputation if she was found out, and she wanted to avoid them. Furthermore, Sol was a fan of Sally’s, and as such, even without an age difference, there was already a power imbalance between the two. Sol himself wrote in his own document on the subject: “as it turns out, maybe I was just some fanboy all along. I felt “special” feeling like Sally’s “sidekick”, being treated in a way other adults wouldn’t treat me[...]”
Several others have also come forward, all members of the same chat with Sagutoyas (named, distastefully, “YaoiClan,” following the naming conventions of the Warriors books), to corroborate this story and offer points of their own. One mentioned that, despite the chat consisting mostly of minors, “NSFW posting was very common in the server” (Chikki). Others still came forward with other red flags and problematic behaviors that were missed—like stream clips that were lost due to unlisted VODs, including one where Sally read “bad yaoi” live on her channel. This was something that apparently happened on multiple occasions, according to this Twitter thread written by another former member of “YaoiClan.” NSFW artwork was also created and shared by Sally.
With all of this said, I encourage you to read the documents in order to understand and be aware of all the details of the situation, but I also want to call for kindness and consideration toward any of the victims involved in Sagutoyas’s actions, and especially for those who were minors at the time. It was not the fault of anyone who was underaged and engaged in it; it was Sally’s responsibility as the adult in the situation to put a halt to it, much less instigate it herself. Already victims have asked to be left alone, and their wishes deserve to be respected.
The Warriors fandom has made impressive strides as a community on the internet. There have been countless extraordinary collaborative projects, animations, artworks, and otherwise fan creations made by the people who occupy it. However, while many do, not everyone deserves a platform here. In light of this new information, it may be a good time to reevaluate who you choose to support.

Update #2 - Production Began
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What’s been happening over the past 2 weeks?
The past few weeks I have been doing some visual research, looking at different children’s books and trying to see things such as how they are formatted art and text wise, how many pages they are, and how much text they have. I also finally got past my initial story plotting and idea mapping and began my draft!
What’s coming up for the next 2 weeks?
In the upcoming 2 weeks I need to 1) finish the draft 2) Get feedback and revisions and 3) start medium testing and character sketching.
Hiccups/hurdles/AHA moments?
My first and sort of prolonged issue was understanding the process of layout, scanning, and printing. I had no clue how I would approach that, so I did some research and decided my best option would be to have my printing done online. However, this gives me a lot of anxiety time-wise. I will have to wrap this project up perhaps more rushed than I want to, in order to get my book printed and shipped on time. Yikes.
And perhaps my biggest difficulty was starting the story. While this project and topic of diverse, non-trad. family structures is extremely important and beautiful to me, it became a great hill for me to climb. I struggled to find a way to open my book with a triggering event that starts off the story. I couldn’t write for the longest time. It dawned on me that I was having problems getting started because this was an emotionally difficult topic for me. So, I had to tune in with my pain , also talk to a peer, and turn it into a plausible, yet fictitious event that would kick off the story of this little girl and her uncle seeing all of the different types of families that exist. So, while later than I planned, I was able to get my production started.
Any deliverable drafts to share?
I have a draft, but I honestly don’t want to share it yet- it’s not done to my satisfaction, but I can show you a tidbit of it and my process!
Visual Documentation of the progress.
(pictures: while doing my bubble maps for the opening/triggering event, I also decided to make some family ones to help me to name the kids. I also included a snippet of some dialogue in the story.)
Where are you on your timeline?
I am not where I predicted I’d be, a but behind, but I am in production for sure! The ball is finally rolling, I’ll be done with my full draft soon and then I can dive into art!

accidentally back to tuesdaypost
despite my best efforts, shabbat came and went and i did not make my post. oops. trying a new heading template this week as well.
maybe not this week but i am thinking of starting to host images for the making section somewhere else...maybe on gdrive? or postimages.org? imgur? just so that if my tumblr ever breaks the images in dreamwidth won't vanish.
listening
partizan! halfway through episode 12 right now, which means, according to where i was last week-ish, i am averaging about one episode a day LOL. extreme sport FatT speedrunning. also relistening to all is as all should be recently, just scratches a brain itch for some reason. it's very brain-worm-able to me, i've been humming songs from it all week.
reading i was going to say fallow and then went. hooold on. i've been reading SO many things just not, like, books.
wikipedia articles of the week: Naomi Shihab Nye, Rachel's Tomb, Matzevah, Alexandre Cabanel, Abd el-Ouahed ben Messaoud, Leo Africanus
because it's november and i'm nostalgic for nanowrimo (and considering doing it again once i'm done with classes and therefore homework), i went and reread some of my nano from when i was in high school and WOW. nostalgia!!! some of it is very very bad, unsurprisingly, it was almost 10 years ago, but some of it is actually quite good. very fond of the comments left by a friend on it that were preserved when i downloaded the google doc a billion years ago to save on my external drive, including one that said "your prose is crisp like an autumn apple" or some fucking thing like that. truly delightful. i'd also somehow forgotten that i'd actually hit the word goal? the document is about 60k words give or take, the story was not finished though which is probably why i misremembered. i should start writing again.
in my quest to populate my inoreader with blogs and other such things i've been delving into my bookmarks and re-found this delightful site, their most recent article is just the world's most specific niche horn memes it's so funny. like this is absolutely meaningless to literally everyone else that it passes back into absurdity and probably funny to non-horn players again. i am VERY excited to peruse their pdf library though.
Tumblr media
playing pokegoooooo. i am visiting my grandma and going on long night walks around the old people development with pokego is very elite. i am a little nervous that someone will call security on me though because i frequently just stop (often like...in front of people's apartment buildings....) and stand still to catch pokemon if a bunch have spawned in one location...
watching i have not watched it yet but i am VERY excited to start season 2 of the tgcf donghua!!
watched kurtis connor's "deep dive into potterheads" and literally cheered out loud at the end when he mentioned the snapewives. that made me want to watch strange aeons so i also watched her video on msscribe and snapewives.
i wasn't On Livejournal or active in fandom while everything was going down but i remember learning about it a few years after it all happened so seeing comprehensive deep dives now is very, very...satisfying isn't quite the right word, but i am a messy bitch who lives for drama especially when i'm not involved in it. what a mess.
youtube
youtube
youtube
making pottery!!! i have a bunch of stuff coming out from a glaze run that i'm very excited to see but it will have to wait til saturday when i get home from visiting my grandma for thanksgiving. i do however have pictures of this little box i made:
Tumblr media
it was a gift for my grandma, and i glazed it all the way back in the beginning of october i think? the kilns got monopolized by some other stuff for the owner's business (which is super fair) which means we didn't get a student project run until literally friday, two days before i was supposed to leave town, so after some texting with her she was able to put it out on her porch around 11pm on saturday when the kiln cooled down enough so i was able to pick it up at like 5:30am on my drive to the airport LOL so all in all it worked out! next roundup post will have pictures of some of my other glazed pieces, i'm very very curious how they do!!!
i've been playing with underglaze because i was like ohhhh i love the look of carving designs into underglaze...and i bought some fun colors when i went to The City a few weekends ago...so i have this mug that needs its first fire, i also have some fun eye-motif ones in the works at the moment! i also added some underglaze color to my dragon carving from last week.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
finally this bowl already had its first fire but i painted underglaze on over white to try and get a watercolor-type effect? i put lilypads on the inside and painted koi on the outside (no picture of that yet)
Tumblr media
misc not a whole lot else! since my summertime trials and tribulations i have unfortunately become the kind of person who gets tummy issues when my stress levels get too high. i have always become a basket case in the ~24 hours before i have to travel somewhere so that's been less than fun but i'm figuring it out. also trying to switch psychiatrists right now is sooooo fucking aggravating i will not get into it but ughhhhhh.

Unconventional Data and its Integration into Business Intelligence through Data Science
In today’s digital world, the sheer volume of data has changed the way businesses work and make decisions. Structured data from internal systems used to be the foundations of Business Intelligence (BI). But with the coming of new data sources, the range and depth of insights has grown exponentially. These new data sources come with their own challenges and opportunities.
Tumblr media
Data science is helping to bring all this different, unstructured data together into business intelligence.
The Evolution of Data in Business
Historically, business intelligence has relied heavily on unstructured data derived from internal databases, such as sales records and financial transactions, as well as operational metrics. These data sets, which are often relational databases, provided insights into historical performance and operational trends, as well as customer behavior.
With the rise of the digital age, however, there has been an explosion of unstructured and semi-structured data sources.
Unconventional Data Sources
If you want to stay ahead of the competition and make smart decisions, you need to know about unconventional data sources. These are data sources that aren't usually found in your company's databases or data repositories, and they can provide you with valuable insights.
Here are some of the key unconventional data sources you should be aware of:
1. Social Media Data
Social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, as well as other platforms such as LinkedIn, generate a vast amount of content that is created by users. This content includes text, pictures, videos and interactions that offer insights into customer sentiment, preferences and trends. Social media data can be used to gain insight into consumer behavior, market sentiment and brand perception.
2. IoT (Internet of Things) Devices
The Internet of Things (IoT) encompasses a broad array of sensors, intelligent devices, and machinery that generate and disseminate information. IoT devices provide data on operational performance, environmental parameters, usage trends, and more, which can be used to optimize processes, anticipate maintenance requirements, and enhance product performance.
3. Web Scraping and Web Data
Web scraping involves extracting data from websites, forums, and online platforms. This data can provide market trends, competitor analysis, product reviews, and other valuable information for businesses.
4. Textual and Multimedia Data
Unstructured data like emails, documents, photos, videos, and audio recordings can hold a lot of information. NLP (Natural Language Processing) can help you figure out what customers are saying, what's going on in the market, and how to spot trends in unstructured info.
5. Sensor Data and Machine Logs
Data generated by sensors, machines, and industrial equipment. This data can reveal patterns, anomalies, and predictive maintenance needs in manufacturing, logistics, and other industries.
Figuring out these "unconventional" data sources means understanding the different formats they come in, dealing with data that's either structured or unstructured, and using cutting-edge tools and methods to get useful insights.
Analysts and data scientists use a variety of techniques to work with these data sources, from data wrangling to natural language processing to machine learning and statistical analysis. By understanding and taking advantage of these different data sources, companies can get more out of their data, make better decisions and stay ahead of the competition in today's data-driven world.
Incorporating these different data sources into business intelligence practices is what drives innovation and helps companies stay up-to-date with changing market trends and customer needs.
Roles of Data Science in Harnessing Unconventional Data for Business Intelligence
Data science helps bridge the gap between non-conventional data and actionable business insights. Here's how:
Data Collection and Preprocessing
Data scientists use a variety of methods to gather, analyze, and prepare unusual data. This includes data sorting, cleaning out noise, and organizing unstructured information for analysis. Plus, advanced tools like NLP and machine learning algorithms help make sense of text, images, and sensor data.
Advanced Analytics and Modeling
Using data science methodologies, you can use advanced analytics to discover hidden patterns, correlations and trends within unusual data sources. Machine learning, predictive modeling and sentiment analysis can help you extract actionable insights from a wide range of data sources.
Visualization and Interpretation
Visualization tools help explain complicated information from unusual data in a way that's easy to understand. Data visualization software and dashboards make it easier for people to understand what data means and how to use it to make better decisions.
AI and Automation
Data science makes it easy to use AI and automation in business intelligence. AI systems can constantly collect, analyze, and process unusual data, giving you up-to-date insights so you can make fast decisions.
Business Impact and Future Prospects
The integration of non-conventional data with established business intelligence techniques, facilitated by the use of data science, can lead to a variety of significant results which include,
Enhanced Decision-Making: With more information from different sources, you'll be able to make better, more strategic decisions.
Competitive Advantage: Unconventional data can give you a competitive advantage through market research, customer sentiment research, and product development.
Operational Efficiency: IoT and sensor data can help make processes more efficient, cut down on downtime, and make better use of resources.
Future Trends
Looking ahead, the future of data science in the integration of non-traditional data into business intelligence will include:
Ethical and responsible AI: Emphasizing ethical data use, transparency and responsible AI applications.
Integration of real-time data: Emphasizing real-time data in the context of instant decision-making.
Unification of structured and unstructured data: Advances in technology to facilitate the integration of diverse data sources for comprehensive insights.
Conclusion
Unconventional data is becoming an integral part of business intelligence, and data science is changing the way we make decisions. As companies embrace more and more data sources, data science is becoming more and more important in getting useful insights and helping organizations stay ahead of the curve and stay agile in today's ever-changing world.
This "unconventional-data-data-science" relationship is at the heart of innovation, and it's changing the way we think about data, analyze it, and use it to drive strategic growth and drive operational excellence.
