being a woman is literally so traumatizing like being in a serious relationship i’m finally coming face to face with the fact that if i want children, i will have to go through the most horrendous experience and the most excruciating pain a human can experience and i’m supposed to just be fine with that? wtf? like women will go like “yeah when i gave birth it hurt so bad i thought i was gonna die and it lasted for like a couple days too and i wasn’t given anything to help the pain and instead i was told to leave the hospital because i wasn’t “far enough along yet” and also the baby ripped my pussy and after the birth i had difficulties even using the toilet” and that’s just.... normal???? what the fuck i’m literally going insane thinking about this every day
#personal#text#like me and my boyfriend are so equal in our relationship#except for this one thing#like if we ever want a child - i'm gonna be the one who's gonna suffer for it and only because of my gender#that's literally so unfair and yet there's nothing that can be done to change it#like when you really think about it – we will NEVER truly be equal#and that's because of biology#do i want to be pregnant? absolutely not#do i HAVE to be pregnant if i want a biological child#yes#i absolutely HAVE to#i literally have to go through my worst fear to have a child#that's insane#and i can't even talk about this to him because ????? he literally does not understand#i was like ''yeah i've been thinking about how scared i am of getting children since i was like 11 and found out where babies come from''#and then i was like ''what about you? have you ever thought about this??''#and he was just like ''no. never.''#like literally i've been afraid of childbirth my entire life !!!!!!!!!!#and meanwhile a man can just be like ''yeah i could have a child'' and NEVER have to think about it#that's insane to me#why do i have to risk my body and mental health like this to have a child and why does a man have to do NOTHING#i hate biology so much#women will always lose in life#i'm literally gonna need therapy just to survive biology#like i respect every mother out there for surviving motherhood bc wtf?? your body did WHAT and you're still walking ????? wth......

Humans are a bad influence
Human: It really is an amazing coincidence...
Ztsaxhi: Hey guys, the food replicator glitched out and gave me way more food than it should. Want some? It's kind of like human "chips."
Käfavayarlop: Is it safe for my species?
Ztsaxhi: Let me check... no poisons but...oh damn, the food guide says it has capsaicin that's painful for you. Sorry.
Human: Ooh, Let me have some then!
Ztsaxhi: Go ahead.
Käfavayarlop: But wait, weren't we just saying that Käfavayarlopen and humans have weirdly similar taste buds—
Human *bites into chip*: Wow! Hggh, that is— REALLY spicy! You were not kidding about capsaicin.
Ztsaxhi: Are you okay?
Human: Fine! It's actually good, I swear. *eats the rest of the chip*
Käfavayarlop: Your face is turning red.
Human: Yeah, capsaicin does cause pain, that's the spiciness, but it's a good kind of pain. It adds to the flavor. *takes another chip*
Ztsaxhi: So "spiciness" is just pain?
Human: Kind of. It's—It's an acquired taste.
Käfavayarlop: ...I want to try.
Ztsaxhi: No!
Human: Let them! Though I will warn you this is not beginner friendly.
Käfavayarlop: *bites* Sacred Gonork! My mouth is on fire!
Human: You good?
Käfavayarlop: No. *takes another bite*
Ztsaxhi: No, don't keep eating it!
Käfavayarlop: But it's good.
Human: Is bovine milk safe for them? We probably need it.
Ztsaxhi: I'll check, yes it is. Wait, is this what all those jokes about humans pairing Ztsaxhi cuisine with milk are about?
Human: Yeah, it helps with the pain.
Ztsaxhi: Why would you even eat food that hurts you?
Human and Käfavayarlop: It's an acquired taste.
#humans are space orcs#humans are weird#speculative biology#alien biology#hfy#human and aliens#it was very important to establish that capsaicin would have a similar effect on the alien#because spiciness from capsaicin is a mammal thing#and this alien is not only not a mammal but isn't from Earth#so it couldn't possibly be a given unless some very noticeable convergent evolution happened

Bruce is Clark’s “my senses/powers are going insane right now, please cover for me” person and no one in the Justice League has ever fully caught on because Bruce (as Batman) will just suddenly start picking a fight with Hal Jordan (who is always down to argue) and distract the entire League long enough for Clark to either leave or get a handle on whatever is bugging him.

my lovely mutuals and followers and circle of dykes. i am BEGGING YOU to stop reblogging that "NSAIDS while on spiro damages your liver" post. there have been MANY additions in the comments expanding on the risk factors of mixing these medications (and i HIGHLY recommend looking in the comments. @/boringkate assesses the risk beautifully in there, and many others are in the reblogs expanding on the interactions and risks as well). all those aside - the major risk of mixing NSAIDs and any diuretic (not limited to, but including ibuprofen snd spiro) is RENAL (KIDNEY) PROBLEMS!!! NOT LIVER!!! and the most frequent version ive seen to that post does Not do a good enough job clarifying that "renal function" is related to your kidneys, not your liver. there are some effects that will happen on the liver eventually of course, but the premise of the interactions is wrong in and of itself and this kind of misinformation is kind of dangerous to just take at face value/without curiousity
i encourage you to read the actual drugs.com summary on the interactions between NSAIDs and spiro that keeps being referenced in that post (more on this under the cut). it is a moderate interaction manageable with increased hydration (your kidneys love water!) and, if you're taking spiro under the supervision of a doctor, monitoring of your renal function via blood tests. and i understand feeling betrayed learning there are potential interactions between all NSAIDs and diuretics because these risks are often not clearly communicated by doctors themselves, but in the pharmacy and usually in that packet that comes with your meds that most people are more likely to toss than read - but please do not make sudden rapid changes to your healthcare plans or work yourself into a panic on ever taking a pain med ever again based on that post and PLEASE fact check things you read on the internet before spreading it as Health Facts, even if its just looking up what different words mean to understand more of what you're reading. i also really do encourage y'all to read on how kidneys work and this is a really nice overview
the risk of kidney problems mostly occurs if you are (1) taking regular doses of both medications (2) NOT drinking enough fluids (3) not communicating with your doctor about all the medications you are taking. if you are taking spiro as a treatment provided by a doctor and are worried about kidney problems after that post, by all means talk to them and ask about getting a blood test to check your kidneys function/health!! im not discouraging this!! your doctor likely isnt bringing this up in the first place though because (in my cursory glance over the sources) many of these studies cited even in the drugs.com article "specific" to ibuprofen and spiro are about a variety of diuretics interactions with a variety of NSAIDs. the ones that arent paywalled are also either acute case studies about elderly patients on diuretics (so who Already have kidney problems/elimination issues) who developed heart issues after diuretics treatement or observational studies specifically on men in good health ages 20-38 to specifically look at drug interactions in the body. in the more acute cases, with proper management/alternative medications almost every single case was reversible and resolvable. many of these medications in these papers also are ones I have not heard of or taken, so i did look up every single drug i didnt recognize by name references to confirm my initial assumption that the reason this is labeled a Moderate instead of low risk interaction is because All NSAIDS and diuretics have potential interactions (confirmed also that the major effect is that NSAIDS have the potential to reduce the efficacy of diuretics, which leads to fluid and salt retention, which can lead to other issues - namely heart issues in the most extreme cases) with variable effects based on specific combination of the drugs used, the patients specific health, and the dosage (not just the size of dose, but the timing as well).
as an aside: if you habitually are taking frequent (read: daily/scheduled, not a one off for a headache or other body pains) doses of OTC NSAIDs, Regardless of taking diuretics, you NEED to tell your doctor because even though its available over the counter (at least in the US) it is still a major medication in your life/relevant to your physiochemistry!! OTC medications are often overlooked by doctors and people alike because they are seen as ubiquitous and to many doctors OTC pain meds, like NSAIDS, are assumed be used in acute pain situations where the dosage is minimal/infrequent enough it will likely have little to no long term effect with other medications.
#bunny rambles#pls read the whole thing if u saw that and are feeling scared ;~;#I'm really anxious this is gonna be taken in the worst possible ways but im also.. deeply anxious! because misinformation like this is scar#and makes people unnecessarily scared and it was a total mistake - nd the one commenter I'm thinking of even mentioned that it didnt do the#best job at clarifying - but people are still rbing the post with it's addition that doesn't really help and i just. really cant not share#anyway if ur wondering my “expertise” or whatever im a biochemist and have been studying science (not enthusiastic interest but like. doing#research. reading papers. learning the field of biology/biochem since 18 (i got really lucky with getting into a research program my 1st yr#of college and thats when i started to read papers and critically assess scientific texts also))#i dont like. using my experience sometimes cause im so scared of being taken as bossy or just. completely wrong bc im not a like World#Known Scientist or anyone even significant in the field im a tech still but like. idk. i just want my circles at least to have more info#to be able to make informed decisions#im sorry this is so long too i just. ah#im so nervous and it shows lol#celebrity bun

I put it to you that Scaphiophryne marmorata is peak frog.
Why?
Well first, it's pretty round, which is key.
Now get a load of those fingers.
Big, expanded discs at the end, ideal for climbing.
But what's happening back there with those toes? No discs there. Those are good for walking and hopping around on the ground.
Now, let's gently turn them over
First, excellent tum, 17 out of 10, no notes.
But what's that at the base of the foot? Those big projections? Yep, those are spades. This climbing, hopping frog is an excellent digger!
I like to think of these Scaphiophryne as all-terrain frogs. They're basically good at everything. They defy our categorical labels of 'arboreal', 'terrestrial', or 'fossorial', and say 'por qué no los tres?'—but in Malagasy, so 'nahoana no tsy izy telo?'
#frogs#animals#cute#biology#science#Scaphiophryne marmorata#Scaphiophryne#actually the fact that these frogs are hard to categorise makes them a pain in the ass to study sometimes#because the methods we have do not really allow for complexity beyond simple categories#I feel sure I have posted something very similar to this post before#but oh well#this is a Scaphiophryne marmorata fan blog#other Scaphiophryne are good too#this is what peak performance looks like#now if someone would only fund the grant I applied for to prove it#that would be grand

you have to go to work so you can pay for your doctor, who is not taking your insurance right now, and if you say i can't afford the doctor's you are told - get a better job. it is very sad that you are unwell, yes, but maybe you should have thought about that before not having a better job.
(where is the better job? who is giving out these better jobs? you are sick, you are hurting - how the hell are you supposed to be well enough for this better job?)
but you go to the doctor because you had the nerve to be hurt or sick or whatever else. and they tell you that it is because you have anxiety. you try your best. you are a self-advocate. you've done the reading (which sometimes pisses them off worse, honestly). you say it is actually adding to my anxiety, it is effecting my quality of life. so they say that you are fat. they say that all young people have this happen to them, isn't it a medical marvel! they say that you should eat more vegetables. they say that you probably just need to lose a little more weight, and that you are faking it for attention.
(what attention could this doctor possibly give? what validation? that's their fucking job, isn't it?)
there is always a hypochondriac, right. someone always tells you about a hypochondriac. or someone who is unnecessarily aggressive during the worst days of their life. or someone looking "for a quick fix". or some idiot who wasn't educated about how to properly care for themselves who just abandons their treatment. and again, the hypochondriac, the overly-cautious hysteric. these people don't deserve to be treated like humans (right), and since you might be one of these people, you also don't get treated like a human. because those people can really fuck with the system, you now have to pay for it. and besides. you're actually probably faking it.
(more often than not, you find a 2:1 ratio of these stories. for every "hypochondriac", there are 2 people who knew something was wrong, and yet nobody could fucking find it. the story often ends with pointless suffering. the story often ends with and now it's too late, and it's going to kill me.)
you are actually just making excuses. someone else got that procedure or that diagnosis and he's fine, you should be fine too. someone else said they watched a documentary about other inspirational people with your exact same condition, maybe you should be inspirational, too. you're just too morbid. your pain and your experience is probably just not statistically concerning. it is all self-reported anyway, and you're just being a baby.
(once, while sitting down in the middle of making coffee, you had the sudden, horrible thought - i could kill myself to make the pain stop. you had to call your best friend after that. had to pet your dog. had to cry about it in the shower. you won't, but that moment - god, fuck. the pain just goes on and on.)
you know someone who went in for routine surgery and said i still feel everything. they told her to just relax. it took her kicking and screaming before they figured out she wasn't lying - the anesthetic drip hadn't been working. you know someone who went in for severe migraines who was told drink water and lose weight. you know someone who was actively bleeding out and throwing up in the ER and was told you're just having a bad period.
in the ER there are always these little posters saying things like "don't wait! get checked today!" and you think about how often you do wait. how often the days spool out. you once waited a full week before seeing the doctor for what you thought was a sprained wrist. it had actually been broken - they had to rebreak it to set it.
but you go into the doctor. the problem you're having is immediate. the person behind the counter frowns and says we're not taking your insurance. you will be paying for this out-of-pocket.
they send you home with tylenol and a little health packet about weight loss or anxiety or attention deficit. on the front it has your birthday and diagnosis. you think about crying, and the words swim. it might as well say go fuck yourself. it might as well say you're a fucking idiot. it might as well say light your money on fire and lie down in it. and the entire fucking time - the problem persists.
it's okay. it's okay, it's just another thing, you think. it's just another thing i have to learn to live with.
#spilled ink#warm up#can you tell what i'm mad about today specifically#i will say that there are a LOT of things that go into this. like a lot. this is ungendered and unspecific for a reason#it isn't just sexism. it's also racism. and ableism. and honestly classism.#and before a healthcare professional reads this as a personal attack: i understand ur burnt out#we are ALSO burnt out. your situation is also dire. this is not an attack on you.#this is a commentary on the incredible amounts of bigotry that lie at the heart of capitalism#where people have to pay money out of pocket to be told to fuck off.#your job is important. so is our humanity. and if you cannot accept that people are fucking mad as hell#at the industry - you are probably not listening .#anyway at some point im gonna write a piece about sexism specifically in medical shit#but i don't want terfs clowning in it bc they can't understand nuance#> it is true that ppl w/a uterus are more likely to experience medical malpractice & dismissal globally#> it is also true that trans people experience an equally fucked up and bad time in the medical field#> great news! the medical industrial complex is an equal opportunity life ruiner :)#(if you find it necessary to go into a debate about biology while discussing medical malpractice#i want to warn you that you're misunderstanding the issue. because guess what.#cis MEN might experience this. particularly black men. particularly disabled men.#so YES having a uterus can lead to more trouble for you. but this happens a LOT.#instead of fighting those ALSO experiencing your pain.... try working WITH them.#which btw. is like. actual feminism.)

hymnheart birds, better known as "hymns", or "travel mount" birds, are a genus of bird derivative from todays common flocking birds of sky (doves), and the less common nightbirds.
during the days of prosperity, these birds were bred to be large and capable of carrying many passengers, as skypeople flight was not a common form of travel. similarly, it wasnt uncommon to find a smaller version of these birds (usually bred by hand, and not by known breeders), meant for single person travel, that was also often used in racing. these lesser travel mounts are known to have sparked the use of mantas for racing and speedy travel, as mantas were faster and smaller, and functionally better for the same uses.
in modern day, these birds are considered to be extinct. after great technological advantages like flying boats becoming mainstream, and soon after the modernization of 'caped' flight, hymns numbers had begun to dwindle due to simply no longer needing them for their main purpose. unlike hymn travel however, manta riding remained persistent as a practice, as the species was abundant, and did not need skypeople aid to continue to breed.
few individuals, like those of the nester families, continued to breed these birds, but eventually discontinued the practice as it became laborious and took too much time.
#sorry for the essay!!!!!#i was just super super excited for these guys#i love them so much and i loved thinking about how they wouldve worked with the world#my activity on posting for the next while will be low because of personal irl issues#but ill still be around !#so dont be afraid to poke me#sky: cotl#sky cotl#sky children of the light#skycotl#sky#thatskygame#speculative biology#spec bio#rhythm birds#hymnhearts#gay bird (ilaw)#mama sariwa

Tulniers!
one of the only surviving non-sapient species from the (now destroyed) Rauslier homeplanet. unorganized ramblings below.
Tulniers were specifically preserved due to their low maintenance needs, small size, and high output of offspring, which served the Rausliers well in their quest of spacebound survival. they were a vital source of protein and fat during the century where Rausliers had not made contact with any other planets - and even after that, before Rausliers were fully able to consume anything from any other planet.
nowadays there are a few industrial Tulnier farms on Earth, though in large mixed-sophont neighborhoods it's common for there to be a small, local Tulnier farmer providing their meat and eggs to Rauslier neighbors.
they can be kept with typical earth livestock as well, so it isn't unheard of for a human hobbyist to keep them in their flock of chickens or herd of rabbits. they have been known to start problems with peafowl and goats, though.
they do take some additional care when it comes to their offspring - the high yield is an evolutionary trait from their being prey animals, so some are expected to die off in larger clutches. this is the biggest issue with industrial farms, as their care standards typically do not allow for every single fertilized egg to hatch. they don't eat their own eggs, so it's a waste of good embryo :(
humans can eat these! though it's not really recommended. won't kill you most of the time, would just taste real freakin nasty to people. also, forgot to write in the picture, but their crests are also covered in chromatophores. their color expression is more limited than a Rauslier, though - they rely more on patterns when it comes to display :)
shameless plug

Hey prompt here!
What if Y/N and Dogday were in the middle of a slightly suggestive moment (doesn’t have to be graphic) and then peanuts decided he wanted to join in (just by like licks and snuggles). Eventually Dogday gets tired of this and in the middle of their moment he locks peanuts in another room. Y/N tries to free peanuts but Dogday like pins them and somewhat suggestively whispers into their ear something like ‘you ain’t moving’ or blocks them so he can continue their moment.
Ik u don’t write smut so this down need to be really graphic and stuff but ye :)
Interloper: Kiss and Tell
It wasn't something that often happened. But there were things that Dogday wanted to express to you that words didn't quite cover. He could lament to you his adoration, but he feared you'd reject the idea of how loved you were, how amazing you were. You had done it before, and it wasn't something he wished to take a chance on again.
So he kissed you. It was a little difficult, in a body not built for simple pleasures like kissing. But Dogday could press his lips to yours, and once you were receptive to his need to shower you in love, he could slip his tongue into your mouth and-
A sharp pain blossomed off Dogday's arm. He jumped back from you with a yelp, leaving you red faced and gasping. In his place, a familiar little toy tumbled over his arm and onto your chest.
Peanuts, his entire body wiggling in delight, happily took its turn to decorate your face in rubbery licks. You laughed, but Dogday could only groan and growl.
"Aw-" You started to say, but Dogday didn't let you finish. He plucked Peanuts right out of your arms, and ignoring the pup's whines and cries, tossed it right out of the bedroom door. A swift slam followed, then the click of the lock.
"There." Dogday said, pleased to finally have guaranteed alone time.
"That was a little mean." You said. Dogday turned to find you stood up from the bed, arms crossed. "Peanuts wanted affection too."
"He gets it all the time." Dogday said, stalking over to you. It was your turn to yelp as his hands slid under your thighs, easily hoisting you into the air. Your hands gripped onto his shoulders as his breath ghosted your neck. "It's my turn, angel," his tongue licks a stripe up your throat, "and I plan to indulge."

one of my favorite item jokes on neopets is fruit and veg items having "Organic" counterparts that are identical in every way, except that they are categorized as "Healthy Food" and are slightly more expensive
also the descriptions tend to be a little different:
#neopets#neopian biology project#there's a bunch of them it's so funny to catch#also makes me ask what “organic” and “artificial” mean in neopia#to a doyleist OR watsonian interpretation#also for my purposes here the “organic” version is usually better as an Ideal Specimen than the non-organic for a candidate species#because i can assume they've seen less influence by neopians?#that's another conversation#(and also limited to the ones that are truly identical;#some aren't quite there)#Organic Green Apple#Organic Pear#Green Apple#Pear#nbp meta
