Clearly bruce has very high regards for danny if he's willing to inflict his children on him. This is a good prompt for a hyper competent danny.
The bats try to slack off on post patrol debrief, and danny calls them out on it.
Danny successfully found every last one of tim's hidden caches of caffeinated drinks, and wrangled him into a sleep schedule that could almost be considered sustainable.
He deftly avoided all of steph's pranks except one, which he deliberately triggered just so he could see steph's face when he phased out of the glitter.
Jason's still not sure how it happened, but danny somehow convinced him to cook half the meals and stay for dinner on those nights.
(Alternative idea - if bruce has known danny for years, he would have gone to danny to get help for jason when he returned full of pit rage, so jason already knows danny better than the rest of the fam, and is here to watch the chaos unfold.)
Damian, of course, needed to test the competency of the babysitter, which translates into potentially lethal sneak attacks. He has yet to be able to successfully surprise danny, and danny has caught every knife thrown his way as if lazily plucking them from the air.
He's also kept them all, refusing to return any until he has been dismissed from his duty as babysitter from either bruce or alfred.
Cass took one look at danny and understood that danny was much more than meets the eye. She has been perfectly polite the entire time, and in return, she's the only one of the batkids that danny implicitly trusts.
Dick, despite being the oldest, is the instigator of the majority of shenanigans and bad ideas. The man does not have a single responsible bone in his body. (Danny is pretty sure he doesn't have any bones, period, but that's beside the point.)
Danny eventually understands why these people need a babysitter. Being highly trained vigilantes has done nothing to curb their stupidity. (Danny remembers when he was a young stupid vigilante. He doesnt hold it against them. Its just extremely exhausting trying to keep them alive. Thank the ancients he was already dead, or he wouldn't have survived a tenth of the stupid things he did when he and his friends were stupid teen vigilantes.)
A couple weeks in (Alfred is due to return in the next 48 hours), the joker escapes and has a major plot. The tentative relationship danny has managed to build up with the bats is thrown out the window as they run around like headless chickens, too emotional to work through the proper protocols for the situation without bruce's steadying hand.
Jason, no surprise, is the most compromised, barely able to string a coherent sentence together while putting every last ounce of effort into keeping from running out of the cave, either to hone in on and beat the shit out of the joker, or to get the hell out of dodge before the clown tries to kill him again - he isnt sure.
"This is the guy that killed you, right?" Danny asks him, point blank. It sounds almost callous to the other bats, but jason is the only one who understands how carefully calculated danny is behaving the moment.
Jason only nods, he cant really manage anything more.
"Neither you or bruce killed him out of vengence yet?"
"Batman doesnt kill," Jason gritted out.
"It's more complicated than that, but yeah," Dick defended.
"And he was the one you wanted to avenge you?" Danny continued.
Jason nodded again.
Danny stepped closer to him, breaching the space near Jason that no one else would enter while he was so close to losing it, "Jason, would it be okay if i avenged you instead?"
Immediately, everyone exploded in protest, insisting that the joker is dangerous, nobody should go out alone, that danny is out of his mind. Most of the bats missed jason nodding a third time.
"Enough!" Danny shouted, trying to match what he thought Batman's tone of authority would be in this situation. Almost surprisingly, everyone quieted down, "I've made an executive decision. None of you are to leave the cave. Cass, make sure nobody leaves the Cave. I'll be back in an hour."
Hesitating only long enough to see Cass's confirming nod, Danny vanished from sight.
Everyone except Cass, and surprisingly, Jason, went ballistic. Once it was quickly determined that absolutely nobody could get past Cass (and Jason started helping her when the others tried to be more clever), they eventually turned to the bat computer to watch the Joker's broadcasting live feed, convinced that danny's gruesome murder was about to be livestreamed for all of gotham to witness.
Instead, a shadow covered the entire set in view of the camera, then swallowed up the joker so quickly that it had cut him off mid-sentence. There were barely a few frames of the Joker's genuine shock before he vanished from sight. Then at once, the shadow left again, leaving the camera to record an empty room.
58 minutes after danny had left, he rematerialized in the batcave, holding a fist-sized purple and joker-green pearl.
"Would you like to do the honors?" Danny asked, offering the pearl to jason.
Jason gingerly picked up the pearl from danny's offered hand, staring at it in wonder for a few seconds, before throwing it into the floor, shattering it.
Then he stomped and jumped on the remains just for good measure, grinding every last piece to dust under his boots.
(Everyone went to bed that night without saying a word.)
Bruce has to go off-world for something since he does not trust his children to not destroy Gotham while he is gone, he calls up his cousin to watch the kids. (Grown up) Danny shows up and has to wrangle his cousin’s children. Danny is full-on expected to be babysitting a bunch of little kids, he is surprised when most of them are adults.
Bruce's kids didn't expect to have a babysitter---they are not pleased. So they decide to make Danny's job 10x worse.
Danny wasn't originally going to butt into their patrols, but they're being annoying. So Danny messes with them on patrol.
(Alfred is on vacation and the thing Bruce has to deal with is short notice. Bruce did not want to cut Alfred’s vacation short)
#eh not my best work#ive been in a funk#and spent all day today with family so im exhausted#pearl was obviously the joker's ghost core#jason either knew enough from danny or had strong enough ghost instincts to recognize it#im imagining here that avenging a death is a pretty big deal in ghost culture#but like how mixed culture families can get complicated regarding conflicting morals#jason's situation was just a mess and danny gave him an acceptable out#everyone else is silently agreeing that danny deserves a five star review and they will never underestimate or question him ever again#they are suddenly low-key terrified of him#except for jason and cass of course#when alfred gets back he and danny get along like a house on fire#danny decides to stay until bruce gets back too

there are doctors there are hospitals there are specialists there is medicine there are systems in place so people do not have to suffer and be tortured under their own chronic pain daily and yet. they're all fucking inaccessible to the people who need it most!!! to what I would argue is most disabled people!! I'm so fucking done with the medical system.
#today is an absolutely wretched pain day that makes me want to not be here anymore but guess what!#wasted a whole year trying to convince my doctors I was in significant and disableing pain daily and the best they could do#is tell me to go to PT and to wait 6 months and tell them if it gets better#to prescribe some shit like gabapentin or otc pain meds and write me off#tell me they'll get new X-rays to see if it got worse by the summer#disability exists!! specialists exist! good doctors fucking exist!! somewhere!!! I'm sure!!#but here I sit. in excruciating amounts of pain unable to convince any fucking doctors of anything#and that year I spent pushing myself to the limit is wasted bc at the very end of it all only one guy listened to me#and he said no one in their giant ass facility could diagnose me#so I'm back to square one bc I got a new job which means new insurance and new doctors to try and convince again#I just want to be on disability so i can want to be alive again#I'm so frustrated and in pain constantly#what are people like me who have to work 40hrs to afford to live but don't have any family to rely on supposed to do??#just die? am i supposed to continue to work until im too disabled to move and be profitable unless i get lucky?#bc some fucking doctor finally decides to actually listen???#ive tried ALL THE DAMN TRICKS TOO. telling them a friend has it and thats how i found out. that my previous doctor was looking into it#etc etc#I'm SO done living like this i am exhausted.#and to know that i COULD BE HELPED. RIGHT NOW. is the worst fucking part#these systems are in place so people like me dont have to fucking suffer.#but i cant even do anything about it bc i have a cat.

fun fact once youve worked at a daycare/preschool the instincts it gives you never leave. i hear a baby crying and my brain muscle memories me into standing up until i can stop and remind myself that most people understandably do not want a stranger to walk over and pick up and soothe their infant. not my job anymore.
#one time like 15 mins after a 8 hr shift i was in my fav clothing store and a baby an aisle over began to sob and i walked over#and just stood beside the pram and stared at the baby while the cogs turned in my brain and the mother was like ''????'' until i went#''i worked at a early childhood center for 8 hours today im so sorry'' and she was like '' OH LMAO its fine hes been fussy all day#i'd apprecaite any help'' and so i just stood there and talked to the baby for 5 minutes#and the shock of having a new face hovering over him exercising his legs made him stop crying and stare#similarly i spent 30 minutes playing with a 8 month old exercising his arms and legs and tickling his tummy and talking#while his poor exhausted mother who was trying to fill out citizenship forms at the library got a moments peace#she vented that she'd just moved over with her husband and he was working all the time so it was just her and bubs here#in this strange new country. and thats a lot for a new mum not having extra family around to help. i remember she asked if i would be up#to babysit for pay and i reffered her to one of my old coworkers i really hope she found someone#that baby was so cute but SO LOUD he was VERY active for his age lots of kicking and squirming and endless energy#little mans is going to be a terror when he reaches his twos

superhero girlfriend
leah williamson x pregnant reader
a/n : i’m in rome and im dying from the heat, so i decided to write something about it. also sorry for how short it is…
warnings : none! (for once) just fluff.
Leah and Y/N strolled through the ancient streets of Rome, the summer sun blazing overhead. The city was alive with history, every corner steeped in tales of emperors, poets, and artists. But right now, the only story Leah cared about was the one she was writing with Y/N—their last holiday as a family of two before their little one arrived.
Y/N rubbed her growing belly, feeling the baby kick gently. "I think she likes Rome," she laughed, looking up at Leah with eyes full of love.
Leah grinned, her hand finding its familiar place at the small of Y/N's back. "Or maybe she’s just excited about the gelato we're going to get later."
The couple had spent the day exploring the lesser-known parts of the city, venturing beyond the usual tourist spots. They had wandered down cobbled alleys, discovered quaint little cafés, and marveled at hidden fountains that seemed to spring up like secrets only locals knew.
But now, as the afternoon sun beat down relentlessly, Y/N started to feel the weight of the day. The heat was oppressive, and her feet ached from the hours of walking.
"Leah," Y/N said, her voice tinged with exhaustion, "I think I need to sit down for a bit."
Leah looked around, realizing they had wandered far from the main streets. The area was quiet, devoid of the usual hustle and bustle of the city. No taxis in sight, just the silent presence of old buildings standing guard over the narrow streets.
"Of course," Leah said softly, her concern evident. She scanned the area for a bench, but the nearest one was a good distance away. Not wanting Y/N to exert herself further, Leah made a quick decision.
Without a word, Leah bent down and gently scooped Y/N into her arms. Y/N let out a surprised laugh, wrapping her arms around Leah's neck as she was lifted off the ground.
"Leah! You don’t have to—" Y/N started, but Leah silenced her with a soft kiss on the forehead.
"I've got you, love," Leah said, her voice tender. "Just relax. I'll take care of everything."
Y/N smiled, her heart swelling with affection. It wasn’t just the romantic gesture that made her feel so loved, but the ease with which Leah did it—how natural it felt to be cared for by the woman she adored.
Leah began walking, her strides strong and sure, as she carried Y/N through the winding streets. Despite the heat, she felt a cool calm wash over her, knowing that she was doing everything she could to make Y/N comfortable. They passed by a few locals who smiled at the sight—a tall, athletic woman carrying her pregnant partner with such obvious care and love.
Y/N rested her head against Leah's shoulder, closing her eyes as she savored the moment. "You're my hero, you know that?" she murmured.
Leah chuckled, her breath warm against Y/N's temple. "I'm just doing what any superhero girlfriend would do."
Finally, they reached a main road where taxis were more frequent. Leah carefully set Y/N down on a bench in the shade before hailing a cab. She made sure Y/N was comfortable, fanning her lightly while they waited for the taxi to pull up.
Once they were settled in the backseat, Y/N leaned against Leah, feeling a sense of contentment wash over her. "Thank you for today," she whispered. "I know it wasn't easy."
Leah wrapped an arm around Y/N, pulling her close. "It was perfect," she replied. "And I wouldn't trade it for anything. Besides, it's our last adventure before we become three."
Y/N smiled, placing her hand over Leah's, where it rested on her belly. "I can't wait to see what the next chapter holds."
As the taxi drove them through the ancient streets, the city of Rome seemed to blur into the background. All that mattered was the love they shared, the new life they were about to welcome, and the knowledge that, no matter what, Leah would always be there to carry Y/N through anything life threw their way.

i’ve never requested anything before so idk how this works but, if you’re still taking request for avatar characters, i’m thinking of a neteyam x reader, like the reader is a really talented warrior and they’re the apprentice of Jake and Both the Reader and Neteyam are constantly in competition to see who’s the strongest and at some point one of them just has an outburst due to all the pressure they have on them. (btw i literally found your account today and i just have to say i love your writing) :))
NETEYAM X READER
Golden child
———————————————————————
Growing up in the omaticaya clan, the people recognized the spark you had, a passionate flame that burned in your heart. Strong, leading. Everybody knew that you would be someone great, and that’s exactly what you were. You always aimed for the top, always made 1st place, always tried your hardest at everything you did.
And alongside you, the oldest son of Jake sully, neteyam.
The two of you were fairly close in age, you being only a few months younger, and when your parents died, and were given back to eywa, jake felt the responsibility of taking you in, they were in his war party, and you reminded him so much of himself. And Neytiri always wanted a daughter, so you became a sully.
And so it begun. With the two of you, everything had to be a competition. You got your ikran? Neteyam gets his a day later. You catch a fish while hunting? Neteyam catches 7. You can eat 2 fish? Neteyam can at 3. Every waking hour the two of you lived was spent staring at eachother, waiting to beat the other. THe only thing you had above him, was that you were in the war party, and he always on lookout.
“Did you get hurt while on your mission? I guess the sky people are getting too strong for you.” he spoke, noticing the cut on your cheek, the both of you knew he was joking. He pressed a piece of cloth against your cheek, sending a smirk. You just narrowed your eyes, chuckling.
“Being that i was able to come within 10 feet of one, im not worried. How was your little tree a mile away from our spot? Was it nice and warm?” you taunted right back at him, laughing at how his smirk fell. This was such a common interactionbetween the two of you, in which neither of you took it seriously.
Even so, you and neteyam were kind of forced to grow a bond, being that 90% of your time was spent trying to outdo the other. The two of you didnt really know why it was the way it was between you two, maybe the validation you got from jake in being the oldest sibling, or the golden child, who could protect the family. Both of you kindled the same flame, and it made both of you stronger.
So naturally, when the two of you both moved to the metkayina tribes together, along with the rest o the sully family, and learned that you would have to learn the ways of water… It became a rivalry. Who could pick it up faster. Who’s ilu was bigger, who could stay underwater for longer, who could stay out of trouble longer.
ANd to your great surprise, neteyam found himself winning at everything. He was just so fast in adjusting to the world around, he could ride on an ilu within the first days of trying, automatically he was able to understand the breathing techniques of the metkayina clan, he made it look. So . easy.
But you? You couldnt, you didnt even know why it was so hard, tuk even got it within a month. You could barely swim, holding your breath was harder than fighting a sky person in one of those suits, and you just couldnt bond with the nature around, even if it was beautiful. You tried your hardest, practicing for hours longer than you had to, almost feinting from exhaustion every night. But still, things didnt get better like they usually did.
And it tore you apart, youd never not been good at something, even if it was hard at first, you ALWAYS got better at it. That was why this was just so strange for you, so overwhelming to the point that it made you want to rip your hair out. You just couldnt comprehend how he was just so good at everything, that was your job, it's not fun to compete when you arent good at it.
So as a few months past, your agitation grew, and your patience shrunk. Things werent getting better, even Lo-ak was picking things up faster than you, and he never did that. And trust me, everybody noticed, you became snappy, talking back to your dad, refusing to hang out with tuk most of the time, and you even yelled at anuong twice for teasing you. Eventually, jake stopped complimenting you like he did in the forests, and that hurt more than anything else could. Even if it was unintentional.
Eventually, when it all became too much for you to handle anymore, you asked for help. And who else to ask but the one guy you knew had to help you. Neteyam, he had to miss your daily little competitions, so he needed you to get better at… everything.
“Neteyam?” you approached him when the two of you were alone, he was cleaning the saddles of his ilu, which generally was an easy task, actually it was quite calming, so you assumed he would be easier to talk to now.
“Yeah?”
“I- im having trouble-i need you to- could you- um-” you spluttered, you were not known to be shy. Ever. This place is changing too much about you, and you hate it. The only person youd ever really felt comfortable asking for help from was jake, and even then that was only in dire situations. You just didnt know how to do it without feeling weak, feeling inferior.
“Oh? Is somebody trying to ask me for help?” A smirk splayed on his face as he side eyed you, placing the ilu saddle down, he crossed his arms, and stared at you in the same way neytiri would when she would watch you do something stupid. It was condescending. You wanted to punch him in the face.
“Y-yes, I am” his stare sent you into an internal rabbit hole, it was unrelenting, and you could tell exactly what he was thinking. That you were becoming weak. That he finally beat you at something.
“Say it.”
“Really?” You crossed your arms and stared at the boy. He had to be out of his mind to think you would go that low for him to- oh. You were going that low.
“Say. It.”
“Neteyam, please help me”
“Oh wow. What happened to the girl who restled a thanator? Is everybodys favorite Sully losing her spark?” he joked, setting a hand on your shoulder and tilting his head with a smirk. He wasnt serious, the two of you always teased eachother, which was most of the time mean comments, but it never was serious. But at this point, the nights you spent trying to swim instead of sleeping caught up, and your comprehension had ceased to work. Imagine neteyams surprise when his lighthearted joke made your lip start to wobble, and your eyes start to gloss over.
“Yeah- i think i am.” and with those words, your shoulders started shaking, and in a few seconds you dropped to your knees, and were crying like tuk does when she gets hurt. Large sobs racked your chest, and you brought your hands up to your eyes, shielding yourself from the embarrassment that you knew would come with crying in front of the boy that you constantly competed against.
You’d never felt so fucking incompetent before, like you couldn’t contribute anything to the table anymore. It made you want to kill everybody within a ten mile radius.
Immediately when neteyam realized that you were serious, and that this wasnt something you and loak were pranking him with, he also fell onto his knees, and wrapped an arm around your shoulder, pulling you close to him. His hand found it's way to your face, and he pushed the curtain of hair away from your eyes, pulling your hands away your hands.
“No- no don't cry y/n. I Didnt mean it, youre perfect- It was a joke i promise” He spluttered out in any attempts to console you, his eyes met your own, and he just stared. The both of you had experience in consoling younger crying siblings, but it never was you. He didnt think hed ever seen you cry before. It’s like all of his instincts froze up, and he had absolutely no idea what to do.
“Thats the thing Nete. I think youre right- I cant do anything anymore- breathing is hard for me- And dad doesnt look at me like he used to anymore- I just- i don't know what im doing wrong” you squinted your eyes and sniffled, you were just so tired, and overwhelmed. And so fucking done. You wanted to go home, back to what was normal, back where you could function like a person.
“Ma we y/n. Ma we. Y/n, you are the youngest to ever be in the omaticaya war party. Your name is known across pandora, you’ve surpassed the limits of eywa. You are nothing but elite-” he shifted in front of you and placed of his hands on the sides of your face. It forced you to look him in the eyes, and listen to what he was saying.
“Shes gone though- I cant hunt like they do. I am not a warrior of the sea. I can do nothing now. And youre just- you can do everything I can’t” the more you talked, the harder you made it for yourself to stop crying. All of the emotion, all of the anger, the grief, the aggravation, just crumbled. Along with that stupid golden child complex of yours.
“Y/n. Shut up. You are so amazing to me it hurts. The only reason you feel like this is because for the first time, you can’t do something. But that’s okay. I’m here. I see you.” He pressed his forehead to your own, wiping the tears that left your eyes with his thumb. You closed your eyes, and let him embrace you. This was strange, weakened wasn’t something either of you were very keen on showing, especially with him, especially not when it made you feel like this. Like neteyam was more than a rival.
“You promise?”
“Of course. ”
The two of you sat there for a moment, foreheads pressed closely, his hand on your shoulder and your face, comforting you with touch, rubbing circles into your back and wiping tears away. You could feel his breath, his heartbeat. And that alone was able to calm you down. Just him.
Just neteyam.
“I’m sorry- I know this is stupid I just didn’t know who else to ask and I thought you-“ it only took you a few seconds to realize the intimacy of the situation, him holding you, pressed up against your face, if anybody were to see you your parents would throw a fit. Your cheeks flushed a deeper shade of purple-y blue, and you stood up, breaking the locked eyes you had with the boy. He just chuckled.
“Does this mean I win?“ he let out the same giggle tuk might have when you went to throw the ilu saddle at him. Which eventually turned into him tackling you into the water. The two of you laughed, pretending to forget whatever just happened, whatever step the two of you just took in your relationship, trying to avoid whatever feelings both of you were most certainly having all of a sudden.
“Oh shut up”
———
*Bonus*
Anuong And loak watch your two figures from a farther away peer, they had been training when they caught eyes of the two golden silly’s getting a little too close for comfort. Immediately lo-ak was cackling at how stressed neteyam looked being so close to you.
“Let’s make a bet, loser has to do the others chores for a month” anuong spoke, staring at the two of you with intent. Lo-ak raised an eyebrow and smiled, it was so funny, he’d always been able to see it. The two of you were head over heels, you just couldn’t see it.
“I’d give it a week before they’re on top of eachother like mates” he answered, leaning over the edge of the peer and watching the two of press together. He couldn’t blame his brother for being so in love with you , you were amazing. Doesn’t mean he wouldn’t use your relationship to his advantage.
“You’re on, fish lips.”

A/N: As Anakin Skywalker once said, "This is where the fun begins." 😈
I had to split this chapter into two parts because it was getting to be over 15k words... so expect the second one soon!
Smoke continued to fill the air well into the new day after the eclipse was spent in nothing but war and bloodshed. Ronal could still smell it all in her nose, making her stomach churn but she stomped down her disgust and continued her duties as tsahik. While the Sully family sat around their dead son and brother, quiet and in shock, too tired to move from their spots on the rock surface, she tended to any of their treatable wounds. For the most part, Toruk Makto was the worst out of all of them, with several cuts and bruises littered across his face and body, likely sporting broken ribs on top of that. He insisted on waiting for Ronal to heal him, however, in exchange for his daughter and his sister to be treated before him.
Young Kiri had knife marks on her neck and when Ronal provided a salve, the young girl reverted to her own healing knowledge as a tsakaremand treated the wound herself without saying a word. Meanwhile, Makayla was sporting matching knife wounds on her neck, a bruised tswin, as well as a cut-up, twisted ankle. Ronal took her time treating the female avatar, using long, leisurely strokes of her fingers along Kayla's throat, spreading the salve across the thin slice. She did her best to be gentle around Kayla's queue braid, prodding gently around the base at the back of her skull. Kayla never spoke a word, shivering under Ronal's touch and simply nodding her head in gratitude once the tsahik finally wrapped her foot up. Ronal nods her head in return and moves away to treat Jakesully.
He had placed himself beside his sister while Ronal tended to her, and when it was his turn to be inspected for injuries, he took the time to explain to Kayla everything that happened and filled her in on moments she missed during the fight. Ronal wasn't fluent in the Sky People's language, but she caught a name called 'Quaritch' falling from Toruk Makto's mouth, and the word 'dead' followed it.
"He's gone," Jake told Kayla grimly, "I made sure of it."
"Alright," his sister croaked quietly, her voice shot from all the screaming and crying she had done throughout the whole battle. She didn't say anything else.
Meanwhile, Kiri and Lo'ak were gathered around Spider, listening to him as the human boy told his friends what had happened to him after Quaritch captured him. It was clear that he was leaving some parts out and simplifying certain moments, but neither of the Sully siblings questioned it, knowing that it had been a long, trying day and everyone was exhausted. Kiri and Lo'ak will eventually want to learn every little thing that happened to their friend but today was not one of those days. Those kids had been through enough as of late.
Spider informed Jake and Kayla of the more important details of his escapades, mentioning one of his masks had a tracker in it, but he wasn't sure if the exo-pack that had been thrown to him while abandoning the sinking ship had one as well. Jake and Kayla exchange a silent look between siblings and already, they were making plans for any upcoming battles, reverting to their old, military ways and as children of war.
Once Ronal appeared satisfied with everyone's wounds, she carefully stood up and returned to Tonowari and their children, who had stood off to the side to give the Sullys their respective space, "I have done all that I can from here, but I will need to tend to the rest of our people, and preferably from the healing huts where I have all of my supplies."
Tonowari nods in agreement before turning his eyes to Jake, who meets his gaze as the chief gently speaks, "We must return to the village to tend to our wounded and mourn our losses."
Jake gives Tonowari a solemn nod, two fathers who were exhausted both physically and mentally, drained from what they endured trying to protect their families. With very few words, Tonowari gathered his wife and children to follow him back into the water, but not without some tear-filled expressions as Tsireya and Ao'nung were hesitant to leave their friends in their sorrow. Rotxo appeared to be their voice of reason until finally, the three reef children dove back into the ocean to summon their ilu.
Toruk Makto watches the olo'eyktan and his family leave before turning to his own wife and children, "We should head back, too. Let's go, everyone."
Neytiri merely nods, her silence holding a heavy chill throughout the whole family. Her eyes stared off into the distance, far away from her mind while still holding onto Neteyam with all the strength she still had left. It was only after Jake bent down to pick up their son's body that she was able to shakily stand herself, letting go of Neteyam's cold hand in exchange for Tuk's warm, little one.
Kiri and Lo'ak stood once their mother did so, the latter of the two beckoning their human friend to follow them, "Come on, Spider."
Spider nods and dutifully stands, only to freeze right in his tracks when Neytiri's yellow eyes flick onto him. The entire family froze alongside him, watching Neytiri with caution as if the scene where she held a knife to Spider was still fresh in the back of their minds. Only Lo'ak seemed to be confused, looking around at his family after they had all appeared to turn to stone the moment Spider moved. Spider visibly stopped breathing, a small wave of fear returning when those same eyes he had witnessed become unhinged and animalistic continued to size him up. Neytiri didn't appear as threatening as before, however, now more defeated than enraged in the heat of battle and after the loss of her child. Before, she looked at Spider as a means of killing Quaritch's spirit in exchange for Neteyam's death and Kiri's freedom. Now, she looked at the human boy as if he was a dead pest left in front of her marui.
When Neytiri finally spoke, her voice was no better than Kayla's, hoarse and broken, but still capable of stabbing Spider in the chest like ice, "No. We cannot take him back to the village, or we risk giving away the Metkayina's home to the Sky People."
Lo'ak reared back at his mother's words, immediately defensive, "What are you talking about?"
"We can't just leave him here." Tuk whimpered.
"And we cannot bring him back to the village," Neytiri told her children firmly, still glaring down at Spider, "Or we risk him telling those demons where we are."
"Neytiri--"
Jake's word of warning is interrupted by none other than Spider, the teen's words falling out of his mouth before he could stop them, "Why would you believe I'd do that?"
The world stills and the Sullys are just as equally shocked by him speaking up against Neytiri of all people before he continued without much thought, hurt by her accusation after everything he's been through for her family, "What have I ever done to make you believe I would betray the Na'vi?"
Her yellow eyes simply narrowed, "You've been the demons' prisoner for so long. We don't know what you told them."
"I didn't tell them anything!" He shouts back, but not to be angry or feared. His shout was broken as if he was crying and begging. He was shouting to be heard, to be seen, "I never cracked!"
"Why were they flying ikran?" Neytiri argues back with nothing but more accusations, "Who showed them how?"
"I was buying time for someone to save me!"
"Why would we? You were finally with your own kind!" She shrieked, drawing Spider to pull away and full-body flinch.
"Mom, stop it!" Kiri cried out.
Jake tries reaching out for his wife, "Neytiri..."
Her own yelling had triggered the tears of anguish to return, Neytiri's eyes immediately spilling her grief once more as she looked back at her husband. Jake froze where he stood, feeling as though he was brought back in time as he stared at the same expression Neytiri bore when she first lost her father and Hometree all those years ago, forcing Jake to be reminded of his past mistakes,
"These demons..." she shuddered in hatred and distress, "They learned our ways. They learned the will of Eywa, and yet they still hurt our Great Mother and our children. We can't teach them. They cannot be taught. It's like what my mother told you. It is hard to fill a cup that is already full."
The words were thrown back in his face, Neytiri might as well have slapped him. Jake looked down when he couldn't bear to look her in the eyes anymore, only to fall onto the sight of Neteyam's body nestled safely in his arms as if still an infant. The mental image only drove Jake into biting the inside of his cheek, fresh tears spilling out of his eyes but he refused to release a sound. His left ear twitches at the sound of someone stepping up beside him, his sister's voice coming to his defense.
"'They' are the people Jake and I were born into," Kayla finally spoke up, stepping forward with only a little bit of difficulty no thanks to her ankle. Her eyes were stone when looking directly at her sister-in-law, "You forget that, Neytiri. You forget where Jake and I come from."
"That is different," the Na'vi woman shook her head defiantly, "You've learned to love and respect our ways."
"And Spider has done nothing but love and respect your ways his whole life!" Kayla shouted back, causing all the children around her to flinch and lower their eyes. Neytiri turns to stone, solidifying her stance and refusing to back down. Kayla was huffing out pent-up anger and exhaustion, her voice like gravel as she gritted out, "I've easily killed more people today than Spider ever has in his lifetime. Why am I more deserving of your respect than he is?"
"Enough," all eyes -except for Kayla's- turn to Jake, his own voice broken and not strong enough to command as easily as he's used to. Jake cleared his throat to correct his voice before pointedly staring between Neytiri and Kayla, "You two, not now, please. Kayla... Kayla."
She finally looks away from Neytiri at the sound of her brother addressing her. Jake continued, "Spider was mentioning a tracker in one of the masks he was wearing. This one's different but it wouldn't hurt to be extra cautious. Do you have a spare?"
Kayla shrugs, looking away to continue carefully watching Neytiri while responding, "I might. But if we're really worried about the RDA tracking us down, I'll try to see what I can do to detect a tracker in his mask from here. You guys head back to the village without us. We'll catch up. Jake, you should probably radio High Camp when you get back and let them know what happened."
"You're not breaking your link tonight?"
"I don't want to... I'm needed here right now." When she peered back at Jake, he didn't look very soothed by her response, his eyes full of doubt, aging by the second and so she was quick to reassure him, "It's alright. I was there the other night. I'll just wait until things quiet down here."
The Sullys appear satisfied by her words and begin to move slowly, sluggish and heavy from today's events, their loss still weighing down their postures. Lo'ak and Kiri occasionally looked back at Spider as they departed as if they were worried this would be the last time they ever saw him. Neytiri was the last to break away with her family, her eyes also still wary of Kayla from their little stand-off before the Na'vi woman finally turned her back on the avatar and returned to her ikran. She only took flight until after Jake and the children sunk into the ocean, Jake's tsurak carrying Neteyam's body back to the village.
Once the Sullys had disappeared, all that was left was Kayla and Spider, along with the sounds of distant fire crackling and waves surrounding them. Kayla's ikran squawks irritably, breaking Kayla's trance. The avatar turns to look down at Spider, inspecting him quietly before beckoning him to follow her, "Come with me, kid."
He silently does so, now more exhausted and suspicious than before, guarded as they both walk over to Thena. Spider's eyes briefly light up with that familiar love of Pandora he always openly shared, amazed by Kayla's ikran and impressed with how much the avatar had managed to accomplish in his absence, "She's awesome."
"I wouldn't go telling her that," Kayla snorts while patting Thena's snout and ducking under her neck. Kayla rifles through the pouches she had sewn onto her ikran's saddle until she found what she was looking for, revealing small human tools she had packed for her long journey across the ocean. She was nothing if not careful, and her preparedness was proven useful in this instance.
Spider noticed the tools in her hand and peered up at her skeptically, "You don't have a spare mask, do you?"
"No. But I have tools. I'll try to remove the tracker if there is one."
"Why didn't you just tell Jake you didn't have a spare pack?"
She shrugged nonchalantly, "I thought you needed a break from the interrogation."
He paused, unprepared for that answer. Exuding a look that expressed he felt a little bashful and appreciative, he flashed a small smile before it quickly vanished and he glanced down at his feet while muttering, "Thanks."
"You bet."
Kayla had Spider sit down while she knelt behind him, inspecting his mask and poking and prodding to make sure he'll still be able to breathe while she worked. They sat in silence, the stench of smoke still prominent in Kayla's nose, but she felt relieved to know that Spider wouldn't be able to smell the death and decay around them with a filter in his mask.
Spider fiddled with a pebble in his hands, longingly staring over the ocean while quietly admitting, "I don't wanna go back."
He felt Kayla's hands pause while inspecting his mask, but otherwise couldn't see her reaction as she sighed, "I know you don't. But the RDA knows where you are now."
"They know where I am in the mountains, too." He muttered.
"If there's a tracker in here, I'll disarm it, and you could go back to the mountains and Ardmore will be none the wiser. She'll still think you're here. You'll be safe from all of them... for a little while at least."
"Why does it matter if I go or stay?" Spider questions with a slight jeer, tired from adults continuously telling him they know better than him. He points out the obvious, "They want you and Jake. This place is as much a target as home is."
"Which is why being far from us might be what's best for you. Besides, Ardmore doesn't have the manpower to track us down at the moment. All her Recoms are dead. She won't have any avatars on her side any time soon."
Spider's spine stiffens, his blood running cold. If Kayla had noticed his uncharacteristic silence, she didn't mention it or just coughed it up to the amount of stress and trauma the teen had just gone through. They reverted to silence once more while Kayla worked, and eventually, once she announced that there wasn't any tracker, she almost missed what Spider was saying as the wind began to pick up,
"One. She still has one..."
Kayla's hands pause again and pull away, leaving Spider cold, "Who?"
"Quaritch." His voice caught in his throat and he had to cough, hiding the shame in his hand.
When he bravely turned to see Kayla's reaction, she bore a look of disbelief while looking out in the distance, "But Jake said he--"
Spider shakes his head, "He didn't drown."
He didn't need to elaborate. As the silence lingered, Kayla fit all of the puzzle pieces in her head and figured it out herself. Spider noticed the dawning of realization on her face and panicked over the idea of her leaving him here on this rock, stranded. He immediately began to ramble as the fear of being abandoned took over him, "I'm sorry. I saw him and-- I couldn't leave him. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry..."
"Spider. Look at me."
When he does so, albeit terrified by her tone of voice, all he sees is determination instead of doubt or disgust. She waited until the kid was looking directly at her before she leveled him with a stern look, "No one can know. Alright? Don't tell anyone else about this. Promise me that this stays between us. I mean it. If anyone else found out, they would definitely send you away, or worse, do you understand?"
He quickly nods, trying to remember to breathe through his panic, but the relief that flowed through him was quickly replaced with dread. The shock wore off and he suddenly realized Kayla was willing to protect him and his secret. His chest squeezed painfully at the thought of the kind of consequences she could go through for something like that.
"Are you mad?"
She took a moment to collect her thoughts before exhaling a deep sigh through her nose and shaking her head, "No. I get it, kid. He's your dad. And... and you gave him something he's never given anyone. Mercy. I hope he doesn't forget that."
Spider's whole form began to shake and when Kayla initially thought he was cold, she looked closer only to realize he was fighting back tears behind his mask, likely shaking from adrenaline and holding back sobs. He lowered his head to hide his face as he whispered, "Please don't let them send me away."
Pity for this child came in full force as Kayla struggled to find the right words. Her thoughts were racing with a war of their own, conflicted about what she should do. The thought of keeping a secret from Jake and his family made her stomach turn uncomfortably, but another part of her knew, deep down, that it was the only solution. Kayla had watched Jake and Neytiri do unspeakable things for the sake of their children, and today alone Neytiri proved she wasn't above harming a child if she thought it would protect her family. As for Jake... Kayla wasn't entirely sure what her brother was capable of anymore, and in her mind, that made him dangerous. She couldn't trust anyone dangerous around Spider if they knew the truth about Quaritch. Besides, it's not like her suspicion of her brother was unwarranted. After all, he wasn't above abandoning Spider when he needed help the most.
"... Alright. I'll try," she decides to quickly change the subject before another word or any regret could be said about her decision, "So do you have any idea how they found us?"
Spider fixed her a small look of doubt before slowly answering, "They only found out where you were when a rogue gunship was spotted coming this way."
Kayla hissed through her teeth, wincing at hers and Norm's stupidity, "Shit."
"But they don't know where the village is exactly-- only that you're among the many islands around in the area," Spider reassured her before curiosity took over, "Why did you guys bring a gunship out here?"
Kayla rolled her lips before answering, "Jake radioed in and begged us to come and find them because Kiri needed medical attention," the moment she saw a shift of concern begin to grow on Spider's face, she held a hand up to stop him before he could ask, "It's okay. She's fine now."
Spider relaxed, replaying Kayla's story before confusion took over, "So wait, you weren't with them the whole time?"
Kayla stiffened, "No. Jake thought it'd be best if I stayed behind."
Deciding not to explain any further, Kayla points down to the cut on his chest, "Let's tend to that. We don't want it to get infected."
At the reminder of the wound, Spider's expression darkens and he simply nods. Kayla grabbed her small trauma kit from one of Thena's pouches and knelt down in front of the human teen this time, inspecting the cut before getting to work. It was superficial, not very deep, just long and thin. Nevertheless, Kayla remembers Neytiri using that same knife to draw blood countless times before using it on Spider... and the avatar woman didn't even want to think about whatever disease or infection Spider would have to suffer on top of the trauma Neytiri likely gave him if it wasn't properly cleaned and dressed. Kayla hadn't missed the way Ronal purposely avoided Spider when going around and healing whoever she could. She only hoped that Spider hadn't noticed... or worse, he did notice but just felt resigned to the usual neglect and mistreatment.
Kayla couldn't imagine what must be going on through Spider's head right now. Having someone's knife to your throat and still begging for Kiri's life instead of your own? Kayla had to wonder if Spider ever had someone who would put him above life itself like that.
"Do you wanna talk about it?"
He winced, "No."
"Okay," she immediately shuts down whatever she was going to originally say, "But just so you know, she'll never do that again. I'll make sure of it."
He didn't look as though he believed her, shrugging it off with a small, hesitant smile, "Yeah, okay... It's good to see you, Kayla."
She smiled back, although not as wide or as relieved as she had liked to feel, but no one could blame her after everything she's been through today, "You, too, kiddo. I'm glad you're safe."
Once she's satisfied with how the bandage around Spider's chest will hold, she helps him up onto Thena and forms tsaheylu, hiking herself up onto the ikran's back before taking off to the skies. The fly felt shorter than it initially felt when she first flew out with the Metkayina to fight the Sky People and save the children. Once the village was in sight, Spider's jaw had opened in awe of its beauty, eyes sparkling in wonder. As Kayla descends lower to the ground, she sees the number of Metkayina who had come out to fight. The numbers have dwindled, but for the most part, they were whole and hovered close to the healing huts. Kayla noticed some heads turn up at her arrival but otherwise did nothing. They were either used to the ikrans' presence, or they were too tired to care after such a long battle.
The only time the Metkayina appeared concerned was when Kayla landed Thena on the beach, where all eyes could clearly see the small demon child riding with her. Waves of gasps and whispers can be heard, a crowd slowly beginning to gather but Kayla pointedly doesn't wait or stand around, steering Spider toward the direction of the Sully marui right away to not make the teenager a village spectacle. Spider looked around the village as they walked, but didn't really get a good look at everything with how urgent Kayla was leading him away, despite the pain in her ankle.
But the Metkayina had already gotten a good look at him, and the hushed whispers were already spreading around until they got to their olo'eyktan. Tonowari and Ronal were conversing outside the healing huts when word got to them about a human child among their ranks. When they peered up to see the commotion, they briefly saw a glimpse of the demon boy's blond hair, followed by Kayla, a towering pillar of protection as she quickly led him through the maze of pathways winding through the village, mothers quickly pulling away their children if the demon boy walked too close. It was a curious sight to see someone so small being shielded by another Na'vi so large. Ronal hissed at the sight of Kayla putting weight on her injured ankle but otherwise said nothing.
Tonowari's expression shrivels up to one of concern before promptly turning back to his mate, "Do you remember when I told you Makayla te Suli considers the demon boy her responsibility?"
~~~~~~~~~
When the avatar and teenager got to the edge of the pods, looking out over the lagoon, Spider noticed Jake and Lo'ak sitting outside a marui that must be the Sullys' new home. Toruk Makto looked up once Kayla and the boy drew closer and quickly stood to greet them, Lo'ak quickly following to do the same. The Forest boy beelined for Spider, firmly grasping his friend's shoulder and gently shoving him toward the pod.
"Come on, bro. Kiri's got some food started for you."
Spider follows inside without a word, glancing back at Kayla from over his shoulder before disappearing. Kayla remained outside once Jake made it clear he needed to talk to her.
"I radioed Norm." He explains.
"And?"
"I told him what he needed to know. I..." Jake swallowed and folded his arms, finding it difficult to speak when his throat began to close up, "I couldn't tell him all of it. 'Couldn't tell him about Neteyam. I..."
He was struggling for words without getting all choked up or shutting down. Kayla immediately takes over the talking, placing a hand on her brother's arm, "Jake... it's okay."
He peered up and she offered him a small, sad smile, "You did good. I'll let High Camp know when I eventually have to go back. Or Mo'at will tell everyone. I mean, she is the tsahik. Wouldn't she connect to the Tree of Souls and instantly know?"
He shook his head, "Not if she wasn't looking for something specific."
Kayla's nose scrunches before relaxing. She'll never get used to how Eywa functions at this rate, "Alright. Well, we'll just go with the flow and deal with it once it comes back around. Where's Neytiri?"
"With Neteyam. The Metkayina placed him in a healing hut so she and I could... could..." He cleared his throat, "So we can clean him up and prep for the burial tonight."
"Okay. You go," she whispers gently while tilting her head toward the marui, "I'll stay with the kids."
Jake's eyes were cloudy but grateful, "Thank you."
~~~~~~~~~
As day turned into night, the village began to grow quiet but not because the hour was late. To mourn and respect the loss of their loved ones, the Metkayina either sang the songcords of those who were slain in battle or opted into saying nothing at all. Soon the Na'vi will all leave their respective homes to gather together in a ceremonial send-off, ready to let the bodies of their loved ones return to the ocean and their Great Mother.
The Sullys were among those ready to send their loved one off. By the time Jake and Neytiri returned to their marui, Kayla had the children washed up and prepared for the ceremony. They all -except Spider- bore white face paint, brushed over their skin in a specific pattern to symbolize their loss. Neytiri and Jake also bore white paint, parts of which covered Jake's stitched-up and bruised face now that Ronal had the time to properly heal him. Neytiri bore the same white face paint but also added black around her eyes to signify her tears and grief as a mother, a white, veil-like material hung around her face from the top of her head. No one said anything, but they all noticed a familiar necklace that once belonged to Neteyam now wrapped around Neytiri's neck.
Before going out to join the village, Neytiri started the tradition of singing the deceased's songcord, her fingers counting each bead, and each milestone in Neteyam's short life, all expressed through her song. The lyrics, designed by Neytiri, described her son's life, from birth until recent events, moments that Neteyam deemed worthy to be remembered, recorded as history in his waytelem.
Lie si oe neteyamur Nawma sa'nokur mìfa oeyä Atanti ngal molunge Mipa tìreyti, mipa 'itanti Lawnol a mì te'lan Lawnol a mì te'lan
Ngaru irayo seiyi ayoe Tonìri tìreyä Ngaru irayo seiyi ayoe Srrìri tìreyä Ma Eywa, ma Eywa
The family clings to the song, willing themselves to remember it, before heading out into the village and retrieving Neteyam's body.
He was clean and wrapped to rest in the fetal position, eyes closed as if he was only sleeping. His braids were pulled back and tied into a hairband, a detail of Lo'ak's doing. The Sullys summon ilu and tie a floating leaf-made carrier behind Jake's as a means of transporting Neteyam. The Metkayina all follow the Sullys out to the Cove of the Ancestors, where they lay their dead to rest eternally at Eywa's breast, leaving Neteyam for last. Jake leads his family away from the other Na'vi, who all stay behind to witness the family return their son, brother, nephew, and friend back to the ocean and back to Eywa. Behind Neteyam's carrier was a trail of flower petals, floating on the ocean surface, creating a path of the young warrior's last journey. Once his family reaches the perfect spot to let Neteyam go, they all slip from their ilu and into the water, padding over to the leaf carrier and helping one another get Neteyam out.
Below the surface, toward the bottom of the cove, was a beautiful field of some sort of coral plant, gently moving back and forth against the current like it was wind, glowing like a golden field of grain under the water. Tuk and Lo'ak briefly touch Neteyam's face, one last time, tears still fresh in their eyes, before Neytiri and Jake take deep breaths and plunge underwater, bringing Neteyam down with them. The remaining Sullys and Spider stay on the surface but lower their heads into the water to watch Jake and Neytiri bury their son. Kiri and Spider held hands in comfort while Tuk reached for her aunt's. Kayla gladly holds onto Tuk's hand, gently squeezing it to reassure the child.
Jake and Neytiri dive deep, close enough to reach the fields of glowing coral before finally letting go of Neteyam. They start floating back up to the surface but never once let their eyes leave Neteyam's body as the coral slowly envelopes him, welcoming him with open arms that is Eywa. Lo'ak had to be one of the first to lean back up for air when he accidentally breathed underwater after letting out a mournful cry, and slowly, the rest of his family followed suit, swimming close to one another until all the Sullys huddled together, crying over their loss.
Before they headed back to the village, there was just one last thing Jake and Neytiri needed to do. They sunk back into the water and swam toward the Spirit Tree, intending on seeing Neteyam once more, alive, if only but a memory. Lo'ak and Tuk go with... And for obvious reasons, Spider and Kiri could not follow. The young Na'vi girl had told her dear friend what happened to her after he asked about the medical attention she needed prompting Norm, Max, and Kayla to come out to the ocean. Spider was sad to learn that Kiri was more like him now more than ever, unable to connect with Eywa but Kiri wouldn't listen to his pity. She had only shaken her head and reassured Spider that she would be fine... but this would be proven difficult after burying her brother. Spider felt the same, sad that he was unable to properly say goodbye to Neteyam. But they weren't alone.
Kayla opted to stay with the two teens, astride a separate ilu while Kiri shared hers with Spider. Kiri watched her family depart for the Spirit Tree with a heavy heart, grieving over the fact she couldn't say goodbye to her brother, let alone connect to Eywa, while Spider simply gripped her arm in comfort. When he briefly glances back at Kayla, he sees a woman whose gaze looks far away, distant from the present, not actually seeing anything. She only had one white stripe of face paint down her nose that she had Tuk do to distract the little girl from the events of the day, but otherwise wore the same thing she always wears, her red crop top and cargo shorts, now dirty from a long-winded battle. Given that it was a cool night, she could've worn a jacket... but the one she had packed was burned at the first chance she got, unable to fathom the idea of wearing something caked in her nephew's blood ever again.
Spider tilted his head toward the Spirit Tree, his mask hissing quietly as he breathed, "You should go say goodbye."
Kayla blinked and then returned to the present time, looking over where she had heard Spider's voice. If he had blinked, he would've missed the fast change in expression, her face suddenly morphing into something soft and kind. It was as if she had just placed a mask over her facial features, hiding whatever she was truly feeling behind it. Kiri hadn't noticed, but Spider did.
Kayla shakes her head, "There's time for that later. Come on. Let's wait for them back at home."
~~~~~~~~~
How long had Kayla been on Pandora? Months? Years? It certainly felt like it. If she had to guess, rounding it up, it would be close to two years now. Two years... and finally she understood why the Na'vi could dress so little and still be kept warm at night.
She had never been a part of those group sleeps the Na'vi were so fond of. Now she was nearly in the center of one. That night after all the horror the Sullys had gone through, a group huddle whilst they slept was inevitable, not wanting to let go of each other so soon after losing one.
Kayla was pressed up against Lo'ak's side, the young Na'vi boy curling his whole form into his mother's back as much as he possibly could. Neytiri was trapped between her son and her husband, Jake doing his very best to get his arms around his whole family even in his sleep. Tuk was sprawled over almost everyone like a blanket. She was spread over her parents and snuggling her cold nose around Lo'ak's head, near Kayla's ear. On the other side of Kayla was Kiri, who originally fell asleep and curled close to her aunt but has since moved, and then there was Spider. At first, he had gone to bed a few feet away, giving the family as much space as possible. That is, of course, until Kiri unconsciously turned around, pulled him into her space, and refused to let go. Apparently, Kiri is an aggressive snuggler.
Kayla knew she couldn't move even if she wanted to, trapped by the teenagers on either side of her, and perhaps they had done so intentionally so she couldn't escape to her campsite. It wasn't a bad experience, but she usually needed to toss and turn before getting comfortable, and she was starting to get hot tucked within such a large pile of body heat.
There's a soft whimper of crying in her ear, and when Kayla turns her head, she notices Tuk, her face scrunched up in distress, but still deep in sleep. As the child squirmed and cried unconsciously, her parents also began to stir, and then finally, the other children as well. Once the rest of the Sullys were awake and moving, Kayla wasn't worried about waking anyone when she reached a hand out to touch Tuk's cheek in an attempt to wake her, "Tuk? It's alright, Tuk. Wake up."
Neytiri took the initiative and sat up straight to tend to her child, gathering the little girl up in her arms like she was still a baby. The movement was enough to finally wake Tuk and immediately, she began to openly cry once she recognized her surroundings. Kiri sat up once she heard her sister consciously crying and crawled over Kayla and Lo'ak to get to her, "What is wrong, Tuk?"
Neytiri shushes both of her daughters quietly, "Shh, shh, ma 'itetsyìp. It is alright. Mama is here."
Tuk furiously shook her head as she began to wail, louder and more distraught than before as she cried out, "I want Neteyam! I-- I want Neteyam--"
The whole marui tenses as they all wait for Neytiri's reaction. Understandably, she didn't react well. Neytiri's eyes immediately began to cloud and well up with tears, ears pinning back against her skull. Her pupils flick wildly about, no longer able to focus on the child in her arms. Her breaths were irregular, her mind visibly spiraling out of control. She looked like a cornered animal, trapped without any means of escape.
The first one to move was Kayla, sluggishly moving until she was crouching in front of Neytiri, gently prying poor Tuk out of her mother's arms and into her own. Neytiri breaks out of her trance for a moment, blinking once and taking in the sight of Tuk crying in Kayla's chest. She peers up and nods once in gratitude before swiftly standing and leaving the pod before her children can see another moment of her vulnerability.
Kayla continues to put on a brave face and quietly shush Tuk, gently rocking the little girl until her cries revert to soft hiccups and sniffles. No one else says a word and they try their best to go back to sleep, but the grief is heavy in the air along with worry for their wife and mother. Jake stays awake the whole time Kayla comforts his daughter, watching the entrance of his home with longing and concern. He forced himself to stomp down the urge to run after Neytiri when his role as a father took over. He shifted until he had his arms around Lo'ak and Kiri, whispering words of encouragement and trying to get them to go back to sleep as if they were still little. The teenagers didn't appear to mind being coddled, given the circumstances, and together, Lo'ak and Kiri gathered Spider and decided on sharing a nivi together, off to the side of the pod. Jake watches the teens crawl up into the large hammock together and fall asleep before resuming his post at the entrance of the marui, waiting for Neytiri while occasionally glancing back at Kayla and Tuk. Eventually, even Tuk managed to fall back asleep and Kayla carefully lifted her up and brought the little girl to the nivi to join her siblings. Tuk sleepily clings onto Spider and doesn't move for the rest of the night.
When Neytiri returned, she didn't look any better from when she initially left, her eyes bloodshot with drying tear tracks engraved into her face like the stripes that littered her body. It was chilling to see the mighty Neytiri, fierce and stronger than anyone in her clan, so shattered and forlorn. Jake stood and opened his mouth to soothe her, but she simply shook her head, her face speaking more than words could at that moment. There wasn't anything he or anyone could say that could comfort her right now. Jake read her meaning loud and clear and simply watched as his wife looked around for their children. She saw them all huddled together in their nivi, and she was too tired to comment on Spider being among them. And even if she wanted to, Kayla made sure to distract her long enough to forget about it.
The female avatar gently urged her sister-in-law to lie down and try to rest, and if she was shocked that Neytiri decided on using her leg as a pillow, Kayla didn't mention it. Instinctively, Kayla's fingers weave through Neytiri's braids to calm her as if she were comforting a child. Not wanting to wake her nieces and nephew, Kayla did her best to sing quietly, raspy, as best as she could so Neytiri could hear and understand her. The avatar decided on the lyrics to Neteyam's songcord, and even though it wasn't as practiced or accurate coming out of her voice, it still calmed Neytiri's aching heart.
Singing helped Kayla not to think about it. Instead, it helped her focus on the lyrics and the proper pronunciation. Her accent was still a little shaky and too formal at times, so as she tried to focus and perfect the lyrics, she didn't have to think about the meaning or the child behind the lines and how he had been taken too soon. She sang the whole song and repeated it a few times before she realized Neytiri had fallen asleep, albeit a bit restlessly.
Jake felt utterly helpless while listening to his sister sing to Neytiri, but didn't hesitate to express his gratitude once he noticed his mate had finally begun to rest, "Thank you." He whispered.
Kayla had been helping adjust the sleeping Neytiri until she was lying down on the nearest cot. She simply nodded in response to Jake before lying down further away from the rest of the family and turning her back so she was facing the wall of the marui. The air was significantly colder without any body heat to keep her warm, but she didn't dare move from where she lay. She wanted her much-needed space, where she could cry silently by herself and where no one could see or hear her. She desperately wished she had slept in her own hammock on the outskirts of the village, but she didn't want to leave anyone in her brother's family alone with their thoughts... and a guilty part of her admits that she couldn't afford to leave Spider anywhere near her sister-in-law at this time.
Listening until she was positive that Jake had laid down beside Neytiri for the rest of the night, Kayla let the tears silently flow out of her eyes, biting her cheek to refrain from making any sounds that would give her away. She could feel her body begin to shake. Whether it was from the cold or her pent-up emotions, she wasn't sure. Either way, it would be a long, restless night for Makayla as she lay awake and listened to the sounds of her family around her.
omg AKAKEKAKAAL 😔
Oki!!
You can make scenario / headcanon for Sugar Daddy Shanks and Sugar Daddy Mihawk ( separately ) x reader? Very fluff and a little comedy ( for Shanks)
Like since the question that Shanks asks YN to be his Sugar Baby, and he every day goes to the cafeteria where YN works and the university where she studies to deliver gifts and snacks, and also when they ask if YN wants to live with them because they wanted YN around and finally has a serious relationship because they are seriously in love and he explains that he was insecure about having a serious relationship because every time it didn't work out, either because of just financial interest or some other reason, but it never worked out, so they made Sugar's proposal to just approach NY to know better and have a relationship aaawn my gah! 😖
YN's life was very lonely and alone with a slightly difficult financial life, and even though she is Sugar Baby, she still decides to continue working (because she likes to work at that job) so the moments that Shanks has with YN are just pure romance and nights of much love but genuine!-im- done, sorry 😖😔♥️
Shanks is a famous billionaire/rich man, as is Mihawk)))
─Shanks & Mihawk (separately) x reader
─Summary: what you thought was a financial relationship ended up being something more than that
─Warnings: modern au
I live for shanks being roasted 😈
Your head almost hit your desk, you opened your eyes trying to focus on the notes you had been concentrating on before, but sleep was winning this battle, lately you had the night shift of the cafeteria where you worked and it was breaking your college schedules.
But you liked work and money always came in handy, you cut yourself off from your family when you went to study outside your hometown, your relationship with them was never very close so you had to look for work because you weren't someone rich.
At least, not at the beginning of your first years of studies, you met Shanks after you spent two years living alone, he offered you small jobs, such as being his companion at galas, meetings or other kind of favors for a large amount of money, that's how you became his sugar baby, even though you started to have more money you still liked your job so you continued there.
You decided to close your laptop to stop studying, it wasn't even that late at night but your energy was completely depleted, just before you lay down on the bed, you checked your messages seeing that Shanks himself had sent you a message.
You frowned slightly, he was asking you to accompany him to a gala tonight, lately you had an internal conflict about your relationship with him, even if your relationship is purely for financial interest at a certain point you noticed that he liked to indulge you much more than normal, you never had the courage to ask if he wanted a serious relationship because being a multi-millionaire man with several companies, he had a couple of other women by his side as companions on other occasions, you interpreted it as being nice to you for being in your situation.
You answered in the negative, your brain was off enough not to feel like being a person full of life and smiling, not today, you needed a break from all this exhaustion of exams and clients. You sent another apology message for not being available and once and for all your body sank into your bed hoping to rest.
An hour after you fell asleep, some anxious knocking on your door made you wake up from your sleep, completely annoyed by whoever decided to interrupt your well-deserved rest, you were ready to yell at what you thought was a neighbor who decided to ask you for a favor, however the words died on the tip of your tongue at the sight of the redhead standing in the hallway of your building block.
"Shanks… what?"
You rubbed your eyes to check that sleep wasn't playing a trick on you, but he smiled down at you as if he was embarrassed for having surprised you, you let him in hoping he would clarify why he was here if he supposedly had an important gala.
"It was a lie… the gala, I just wanted to see you but I didn't know what excuse to make."
"Oh…" you sat next to him putting your hand on his shoulder, you noticed how he seemed to tense up, he didn't look at you which was strange because he always likes to make eye contact with you, you noticed how he moved his hands nervously as if he wanted to say something else "Hey Shanks, are you alright? you seem-"
"I- this whole sugar baby thing started because I didn't know how to ask you to have a relationship, I wasn't sure if someone as young as you would want to- you know- I thought it was a good way to get closer to you, but it bothers me a little that you take it as another job, I just want-"
You cut the string of him off with a little kiss, all this nervousness over a confession, if you were a teenager you'd be winding your hair around your finger with a goofy grin on your face, even though you did have the goofy grin.
"Shanks you are a complete idiot you know that?"
"Is that a yes?"
"No."
You changed your smile to a flat expression, though the joke didn't last long when you saw the man's kicked puppy face, making you roll your eyes and kiss him again, he grabbed your hands rubbing his thumb against your knuckles.
"So… there was something else I'd like to ask you" you raised an eyebrow at his words, nodding for him to continue "would you like to come live with me? Since you are my official partner, I would like to pamper you much more."
"I…"
Your mind entered the conflict of the moving, Shanks does not live near the city which would imply that you needed a method of daily transportation, in addition to the fact that you didn't want to leave your job even with this offer in hand.
"Don't worry about anything! I would do anything to balance our schedules and be able to take you everywhere, I'm not asking you to quit your job if you like it, I just want us to spend more time together without needing excuses."
"Okay Shanks, I would like that too, but the next time you want to propose something to me, don't do it on a Sunday at two in the morning or I'll cut any kind of contact."
"But-!"
"No 'but', now let's go to bed" he raised his eyebrows up and down hinting while squeezing your thigh, you sighed rubbing your temple "or I go to bed and you go to the sofa, if that's what you want."
"I was kidding!"
"Mmmh yeah, the sofa will like your jokes."
"Oh, come on, babe!"
You readjusted your shirt, looking at yourself for the last time in the mirror that was in the room where the employees were allowed to change into the cafeteria uniform, luckily today it was afternoon shift for you and not many people used to pass by, at least not as much as in the morning shift.
You were able to study as there were only a couple of clients, you had to keep up with your studies since you decided to move on your own and live on your own without the extra help of your parents, it was quite hard to maintain an accommodation and pay for your studies at first, but when you found a job you also found an offer you couldn't refuse.
Apparently this was the favorite coffee shop of Dracule Mihawk, one of the city's billionaires, quite ironic that someone rich would like a completely ordinary coffee shop, but you weren't one to judge, not when he took an interest in you after you served him at your first day of work. From that day on, he always began to come to ask about you and eventually he became interested in you helping him with some things for a certain amount of money.
Of course, with your financial situation you couldn't refuse, plus most of the time you only had to accompany him to boring meetings with other businessmen, everyone knew Mihawk as someone lonely and sometimes he needed to surprise with a companion, according to him, you made a good impression and matched perfectly with him.
Your relationship was merely something professional, you did your job and he paid you for your services, you had a certain affection for Mihawk due to the fact that more than once he consented to some details despite not having done anything special, he behaved like a gentleman to you even though you were doing him no favors. You also noticed how he seemed to want to break that unwritten contract about being his sugar baby only for a few occasions, although his body language was hard to decipher so you didn't want to assume things and you left it in your mind.
The sound of the bell made you take your eyes off your books, smiling goofily when you saw Mihawk walk through the door, a little surprised by the bouquet of flowers he brought, You put your notes aside and smiled as the customer service policy dictates.
"Good afternoon Mr. Mihawk, the same as always?"
"Yes, thank you, but I would like to ask for something else."
"What else can I offer you, sir?"
"You."
You blinked a few times, tucking a lock of your hair behind your ear, incredulous at his audacity, you looked into his eyes, instantly regretting seeing his intense gaze, apparently it wasn't some kind of bad joke, although you thought that maybe he needed you for one of the meetings.
"Do you need a companion again? I'll be free in a couple of hours."
"No, it's not that, I'm completely serious, I want to formalize our relationship to something more than a relationship for mere benefit, I've tried to tell you before but it never seemed to be the occasion."
"I- oh, that caught me off guard."
"It's okay if you don't accept, I won't stop requesting you sometimes if you still need the money, but I don't want to pressure you, after all, not all beautiful young people like you would agree to date someone my age."
"No! no, I mean yes, I would like to officially date you, you caught me off guard and…"
You secretly pointed to a couple of customers who seemed attentive to the whole scene making you feel nervous, Mihawk made sure they stopped gossiping with a simple look, offered you the bouquet of roses, holding one of your hands while looking at you.
"I would also like to offer you to live with me, it doesn't have to be something immediate, I know that the changes can be overwhelming, but I would like you to think about it, I would like to consent to you of my own free will and not for services."
"I'll think about it Mihawk, but I like this place…"
He nodded, he understood that you liked the job even though you weren't going to have those problems with money anymore, he wasn't going to deprive you of that, plus he can always come see his favorite person in his favorite place, he couldn't ask for more.
"So, you said your shift ended in a couple of hours?"
"I thought you didn't need me, did you have a meeting?"
"No, I want to take you to our first official date."
He brought your hand to his lips, leaving a soft kiss on it, your face heating up at his actions, you accepted the proposal and began to make his usual order, waiting impatiently for your shift change. You completely forgot what you were studying before, thinking about what to wear to your date, the remaining hours passed quickly without many more customers so you could sit and chat with Mihawk for a while.
"Ready to go, mi amor¹?"
You took his hand with a smile once you left in your normal clothes, saying goodbye to your coworker while Mihawk walked you home so you could change clothes and then took you on the first date of many after this day.
Yandere catboy x reader
Note: this is a continuation of part 1
Summary: 5 short stories about the catboy
<1>
Blake dreamed of this moment. Snuggling next to you, on your bed.
He had to be in his cat form in your house, and he had a new name, but it didn't matter that much.
He actually changed into his human self again to unlock the door to your room. It was a close call and he almost got caught by your brother who got thirsty at night. When he went inside your room, you were sleeping peacefully. He looked at you, occasionally touching your face, smiling.
He knew he had to turn back to Tux if he wanted to keep it safe. However, he also wanted to feel you against him in his human form for a little bit longer. He lay beside you, his eyes half closed because of exhaustion.
"..."
He knew well not to fall asleep as Blake, but he drifted off to sleep.
Blake woke up the next day, his eyes opening right up looking around the room fast. Luckily, you were asleep. After checking the time, Blake quickly changed to his cat form.
--
Blake had a busy day. He pretended to be a stray cat taken in by your family at day. He also had to stay right beside you, watching your every movement(and he loved it). And after you drifted off to sleep, he had to go to his own house, just to do things he missed at daytime.
No one really cared if he was in his house. Maybe no one really was in the house is more accurate.
Blake crawled away from your bed and went out of the house. It was midnight, and the streets were empty.
In his cat form, Blake walked to his own home. He wanted to stay with you for the night, but he couldn't. He slept in his cat form the first few nights, but he couldn't stay that way forever. Changing into his cat form was not something to do for hours.
Blake's house was empty and quiet. There was no one in the house as expected. Blake changed back to his human form and looked around. He had stuff to do, normal things he needed to take care of. He didn't want his family member to find out he is changing into his cat form regularly only to see you.
He spent the entire night awake. It was tiresome, but he managed. It was better than you waking up and finding him on your bed because he couldn't manage to stay in his cat form.
At school, all Blake did was sleep. He slept through all classes. It didn't matter to him anyways(he could catch up by studying at night). Maintaining a life as your cat was his top priority right now.
All he needed to do was get close to you as Blake, and somehow make you open up to him.
<2>
"I know there's something going on with you and Blake.*
You had to admit your friend has great insight when it comes to relationships between people.
"What? No."
"Don't lie to me."
"I'm not lying"
There was something going on with you and Blake, but it was not something normal.
"I'll prove you wrong at some point."
Your friend said, as she walked to another direction home.
You walked past where the cats usually hang out. You were listening to music through your earphones when you felt a familiar touch.
"Blake?"
It was Blake. You knew it was him easily.
"Did you miss me?"
Blake asked, smiling.
"Why did you skip school today?"
You asked.
"Huh?"
Blake looked surprised.
"Were you sick? An appointment?"
You asked again. Blake chuckled at your genuine questions.
"No, I was with my family member. Well uh.. he visits once a month to check if I'm doing ok. I spend time with him when he comes to my home."
You remembered now that Blake always skipped school once a month for some reason.
"That explains it... uh.. what do you mean by family member?"
You realized you knew nothing of Blake while Blake almost knew everything about you. Blake never told you about his story.
"... uhm.. he's my uncle. I live alone so he comes once every month to see if I'm living like a decent human being."
"Oh, okay.. that seems a bit.. lonely."
"Then you can spend time with me, and hug me back every time."
You guessed Blake's family was either super cool about him wandering around or too busy, but you didn't know Blake was that lonely.
"What did you do today? I hope you didn't get closer to anyone else, because.. I can't let you do that- well.. uh.. we practically live together, and you can't deceive me.."
"You know well I don't have much friends."
Blake held your hand until you arrived in front of the door to your house.
"Are you going to turn into a cat again?"
".. I guess so."
"You can turn into human again in my room, so don't worry."
<3>
That day was limit and Blake know that well now. Staying as a cat in your house was too much to handle. Staying awake all night and wandering around all night made stress unbearable to his body.
So when you came back home to greet Tux, Blake couldn't control himself.
And that made all his work into nothing. Now you knew he was not the cat you imagined and you cared of. You now avoid him in school, hanging out with someone else when he's right there, looking at you.
Blake raced to your house and turned to a cat before he was too sick to do so. He waited for you to come home, and see him as Tux again.
You never rejected him harshly or directly so Blake thought that if he push you farther it would work. You might accept him. Then he'll be beside you, as Blake.
<4>
"That explains everything. Why you turned into a human so suddenly, and why you always sleep in class-"
You say giving some snacks your mom bought to Blake. Blake was sitting at your desk while you unpacked your school bag.
"..."
"... but don't you think it'll be better if you.."
You stopped for a moment. You acknowledge Blake's lonely(or you assume), but does that mean you should let him be with you all day..?
"I mean.. I think staying with one person all day won't be the best idea."
You finished your sentence.
"Why not? I don't have anything to do in my house, and I love you. I want to be beside you."
Blake frowned at your statement. Standing up from the chair, he continued,
"I don't understand why you're so distant. You loved it when Tux was with you 24/7, and now you don't like the idea of me with you all day.."
Blake was now right behind you.
"... uh.... I mean that you should find something else to uhm.. accompany you."
You said.
"You're getting it all wrong. What else would I accompany when I do not have you in the first place?"
Blake was persistent about staying with you all day. You could feel that from his tone. You turned around to face Blake.
"Then... what about you come over to my house after dinner time and sleep in my room?"
"Huh..?"
"You can stay at your place and do your own things. And after dinner.. maybe about 7 or 8, you can come over to my room, and we can spend some time with each other. You can sleep in my room also."
Blake seemed to be hesitant but nodded.
".. but what will you tell your family if Tux is gone?"
Blake asked.
"I don't know.. I'll just tell them the cat ran away. I think they'll believe it. I'll pretend to be shocked about the disappearance too."
You replied, looking at Blake, who had the best expression on his face.
"Thanks.."
Blake said, his hand wrapping around your body hard.
"Okay, okay- don't hug me too hard-"
<5>
You turned off the lights and plunged onto your bed. It was been almost a week since Blake came to your room to spend time with you. Blake seemed to be enjoying the whole situation. You were sometimes tired of Blake's affection, but you managed.
"I feel like we're a married couple."
Blake said suddenly.
"You should stop daydreaming."
You said, turning your body to the opposite side of Blake.
"It's not daydreaming."
"Why?"
"I'll make it happen someday. You wait and see."
"..."
"We're already so close to each other, so I think it's only a matter of time."
Blake said with confidence.
"You always accept me. You only need some time."
The Almost Wedding: Ch. II
Prev
.
Krushna had passed the limit of “fashionably late” a long time ago, and the limits of giving a fuck an even longer time ago.
The news of Tanishka agreeing to marry Chaitanya had been making the media rounds for the last two months without any signs of becoming old news— the eldest child of a film mogul and the younger brother of a famous Indian-European actress was the match of the year for the young generation of India, and the public had been going crazy over the two of them being seen holding hands and going on dates.
Three weeks ago, Krushna had been sent an invitation for an event being held to introduce Chaitanya Kulkarni to Arjun and Tanishka’s extended family with a postscript from Arjun that said he had to come whether he wanted to or not. Krushna had replied with an affirmation of his attendance, curious to get to know the man that had managed to meet the high standards of his best friend’s older sister.
He was regretting that right now.
Why did the event have to be on the day before Christmas, and why did it have to be in the evening? The celebrations were in full swing all throughout the city, and the traffic of Pune had been horrific. He had spent half an hour being stuck in the same place on the way to the venue, simply because the traffic had refused to bloody move forward. It was the insipid icing on the unpalatable cake that was the entirety of today. He was tired and drained and had nowhere near enough energy to deal with more than three people right now, but here he was, stepping out of his car after an hour of suffering through traffic and nodding in thanks to the valet for opening the door.
He took a deep breath in and released it as his chauffeur drove away and out of sight, and lifted his chin to rake a gaze over the expansive, beautiful building.
The Ritz Carlton, Pune.
He remembered first coming here for a formal event with his sister and mother three weeks after it had been opened to the public, sitting awkwardly wearing a suit he did not feel comfortable in, listening to Rukmini and Aai talk with various business associates that had smiled at him condescendingly while asking him how his school was going. The second time he had come here, it was a few months ago with his friends from Milan to celebrate his own twenty-fourth birthday, and that had been one of the best experiences ever.
Now here he was for the third time, celebrating the betrothal of a woman he did not particularly like. Curse his curiosity— Arjun had talked about the Kulkarni siblings and their out-of-this-world beauty so often that Krushna was now very interested in meeting Chandan Kulkarni.
His phone chimed, and Krushna blinked out of his reverie, letting out another exhausted sigh. He unlocked it, and opened IM. Inadvertently, a soft snort climbed up his throat at the text.
Aharya Jadhav— Arjun’s cousin of the same age, a lawyer, a fashionista, and one of the most chaotic people Krushna knew, second only to Arjun himself. Two people began typing, one of them Arjun, but he raised his eyebrows at the other one. He had been reliably informed that Sarthaki would not be attending the event, having used her broken leg as an excuse to escape the torture. No doubt the annoying little shit was lying on her bed with a bag of chips and a pizza, having fun commenting about them having to suck up to Arjun’s family.
He began walking as his idiots continued to type, through the doors into the luxurious lobby and towards the lifts without bothering to talk to the staff members or check the Events notice board. He already knew where to go.
Krushna bit his lip to hide his smirk and stepped into the lift, hand rising to press the button for the eighteenth floor without even having to look at it. His thumb flew across the screen of his Samsung, firing off a reply that he knew would piss Sarthaki off.
Krushna stifled a laugh as the doors of the lift slid open on the eighteenth floor, right into the entrance for the rooftop bar. He arranged his face into a polite, charming smile and tucked his phone into the pocket of his trousers, checking his reflection in the mirror on the far wall for a second. Makeup was in place, hair was pulled back into a purposely messy half up half down style, and the piercings in his ears gleamed brightly, perfectly matched to the silver brocade of his black kurta.
Good enough.
He straightened his back and stepped out onto the balcony.
Arjun and Aharya descended on him like a flock of vultures amidst the blinding flashes of the paparazzi’s cameras, wrapping themselves around each of his arms and giving him identical sweet smiles that immediately sent alarm bells ringing through his head. He groaned under his breath as they dragged him towards the bar.
“Fuck, please tell me you two chuckleheads didn’t murder someone,” he murmured under his breath, “I do not have the energy to help you hide a body tonight.”
Arjun let out a strained chuckle.
“Nahi,” he gritted out between clenched teeth, a stiff smile stretched over his glossy lips. He looked good, with contour and highlighter accentuating his bone structure and wearing a royal blue silk kurta with matching trousers. The bi flag bead bracelet Krushna had gotten for him when he had first come out was in place as it always was, and it rattled ominously when Arjun dug his fingers almost painfully into Krushna’s biceps. “But I’m extremely fucking close to snapping Tanu Tai’s pretty little neck.”
There was a Marathi phrase for the situation that Tanishka and Arjun were in. Chhattis cha aakda. It literally meant “the number thirty-six”, and implied that three and six would always be at odds with each other due to being complete opposites. Arjun and Tanishka were not entirely different— they were both good looking, frighteningly smart and shared a number of little quirks— but they were always at each other’s throats about literally everything, and it was a 24/7 source of entertainment for their friend group.
“What did she do now?” Krushna asked, leaning back on the bar and turning to give Aharya a chaste kiss on the cheek. She looked beautiful, dressed in a pearly white saree with silver zari and matching blouse, a sterling silver choker around her slender throat and hair piled into a stylish bun with a silver and pearl hairpin. Her makeup was flawless, with glimmering silvery white eyeshadow, white highlighter and soft pink lip gloss. “And Aharya jaan, you look fabulous as always.”
“Thank you, my love. Tanu Tai is showing off her arm candy,” she replied with a roll of her eyes, accepting the glass of champagne that Arjun handed her and leaning back against the bar. “Chaitanya— that’s the husband to be— is pretty and smart, and Arjun has dealt with enough of her bragging about it.”
Arjun scoffed, extending a black glittery cocktail towards Krushna, who took it gratefully. After the day he had just gone through, drink and gossip was the perfect pick me up. He took a sip and hummed in surprised approval at the explosion of blueberry on his tongue.
“And like, I get it okay,” Arjun said, raising his own glass of some violently pink concoction to his lips, “the man is ridiculously pretty and he’s studying physics because he actually bloody likes it, the weirdo.” The last two words are said with affection, and Krushna suddenly remembered that Arjun had spent a lot of time with this mysterious to-be-fiancé of Tanishka’s since the beginning of September. “He deserves to be shown off a little. But god damn can you shut up for like three seconds?”
Aharya stifled her snicker behind her glass, and Krushna grinned.
“He’s approved by both of you?” he said with exaggerated shock, placing a hand to his chin. “This is a tremendous occasion, I simply must meet this mystery man now.”
Arjun and Aharya rolled their eyes as one, already used to his theatrics. “He’s out of Tai’s league, honestly,” Arjun muttered. “I don’t know what he saw in her that he agreed to a marriage, but we all know he’s way out of her league.”
Krushna raised an eyebrow, an amused smirk curling up the edges of his lips. Arjun saying something was out of Tanishka’s league was routine, and so was Krushna and Aharya taking turns to pour gasoline on the dumpster fire that was Arjun and Tanishka’s relationship. “Well, then,” he drawled, “someone, introduce me to this man— what did you say his name was?”
“Chaitanya,” Aharya supplied, dark brown eyes glittering with the same amusement that Krushna was sure he himself was showing. “Chaitanya Kulkarni. I think you might have met his older sister somewhere at your modelling gigs— Charita Kulkarni, that actress who’s based in France.”
He nodded, taking a sip of his cocktail. “Yeah, I worked on that campaign for UNICEF with her two years ago. Excellent woman, and very intelligent. I had no idea she had a sibling.”
“She has three,” Arjun said. “Two brothers and a sister. And all of them are bloody fit. Seriously, it’s actually frustrating. Shame the oldest is married, or I’d have hit on him.”
Krushna and Aharya burst out laughing, attracting the attention of nearby tables before they remembered where they were and toned down the noise.
“You won’t believe the number of times this dude has gone on and on about Chandan, I swear,” Aharya snickered, and Krushna laughed harder, patting her on the shoulder.
“Oh, darling,” he gasped, “I’ve literally been dealing with it every day since the day Tanishka met that fiancé of hers. The first thing he did was call me and whine about how it’s ‘such a shame that Chandan is happily married’ and how he would ‘climb him like a tree if given the chance’, never mind that the man is almost forty.”
Arjun glared at him, and the fact that there was definitely a blush creeping up his neck under all his makeup had Krushna burying his face in Aharya’s shoulder to stop himself from cackling louder.
“I do not whine,” the shorter man grumbled, looking like he was seconds away from stomping his foot. “I do not!”
Krushna could not stop laughing. He leaned against Aharya with an arm wrapped around her waist for support, both of them giggling uncontrollably, stomachs starting to ache with how hard they were trying not to laugh too loud. Arjun groaned through gritted teeth, and folded his arms across his chest and glared at them, leather shoes tapping on the floor.
“Look, do you wanna meet Chaitanya or not?” he asked impatiently.
Krushna sucked in a deep breath and nodded, forcing himself to stop laughing. He elbowed Aharya in the stomach and gave her a look that said shut up, and turned to Arjun with the most demure expression he could manage, making him snort derisively.
“Alright,” he muttered, grabbing his drink to throw the last of it back and setting the empty glass down on the bar. “Come on, Tai has dragged him along for her rounds. Find her, and we find him.”
— — —
Chaitanya stuck his free hand in his pockets and exhaled through his nose, making sure the smile on his face did not look as done-with-this-shit as he felt. Tanishka had her hand tucked into his left elbow, and was smiling charmingly at one of the many old ladies that he had been introduced to and promptly forgotten the names of.
Gods, this was too many people in too little time. He wanted to leave.
He had nothing against Tanishka and her family, of course— they were wonderful people for the most part, except for that one aunt who had asked outright if he was planning to live off of his family’s wealth since the M.Sc in Physics was obviously not of any use— but he really did not have the social capabilities to be dealing with such a large crowd. He had run out of things to say twenty minutes ago, and was simply smiling and nodding along to whatever Tanishka was talking about, not bothering to pay attention to anything.
Chandan, the traitor, was ensconced with a socialite at one of the tables at the corner, deep in conversation about something or the other. Charuta was in Delhi, having left two months ago for her work, and Charita was… nowhere to be seen. Chaitanya furrowed his brows and cast a glance all over the place.
Where’s Ritu Tai?
He scanned the entire place, but no. There was not a single hint of the eye-catching hot pink cocktail dress his sister was wearing. He frowned harder and tapped Tanishka’s arm so she would loosen her grip, and turned around, only to catch Arjun’s eye.
The boy in question grinned and waved, beckoning Chaitanya to join him. Chaitanya shrugged and tilted his head towards Tanishka, who had an iron grip on his elbow and was still talking to the lady. Arjun’s eye roll was visible even from across the pool, and Chaitanya suppressed a grin. He liked Arjun— the boy was hilarious, openly bisexual and an absolute riot. He was what Chaitanya supposed he would have been if he had not been such a bloody introvert.
A few seconds later, Arjun came to a stop right next to him just in time for a couple flashes of blinding white light to go off, reminding him of the presence of the paparazzi. The other boy was accompanied by two people— a pretty woman whose name he could not remember, and the most beautiful man Chaitanya had ever seen in his life.
His eyes were a startlingly bright grey, almost silver in the lights of the restaurant, made even brighter by the silvery smokey eye makeup and diamond sharp winged liner. He was almost a head taller than Chaitanya, with long black hair pulled back into a half up half down style that accentuated his sharp, contoured cheekbones, and full lips covered in transparent glitter gloss. The black kurta with gold brocade that he wore only served to show off his broad shoulders and thick biceps, and his ears were covered in piercings— two standard lobe piercings, a helix on the left ear, and an industrial on the right— gold to match the rest of his outfit.
Krushna Mahajan.
Chaitanya recognised him, from a couple of photos his sister had shown him from that one UNICEF camp again she had done a few years ago, and from a few posts on Instagram that he had seen on his FYP. He was a model and owned his own fashion brand based here in Pune, if Chaitanya remembered correctly.
“Good evening, Tanishka,” the man greeted with a deep, honey-smooth voice, full lips pulling into a smile that was just so on the wrong side of polite that was completely at odds with his pleasant tone, taking in Tanishka’s outfit with the classic Up and Down. “I see you’ve cleaned up nicely.”
There was a ‘for once’ implied at the end of the sentence. Chaitanya raised a brow and looked at Arjun, who winked and silently gestured with his eyes for him to keep watching. He suppressed a smile and acquiesced.
“Krushna,” Tanishka greeted with a ramrod straight back, much less polite. “I don’t remember sending you an invite.”
Chaitanya turned to her, blinking slowly in shock. That was the bluntest he had seen her speak today; she had even been polite to that one aunt Arjun had told him she had loathed since she was a child. Had she suddenly forgotten all her manners? Granted, the man had probably snuck into the party without an invite, but that was no reason to be unpleasant in full view of the guests and cameras. The old lady she had been playing nice with a few moments ago was less than three feet away, for fuck’s sake!
“Actually, Tanu Tai,” Arjun interjected, the promise of chaos written all over his too sharp, too smug smile, “I sent him an invite because you forgot to. After all, he’s practically family, isn’t he?”
Behind him, the beautiful woman smirked and raised her champagne glass to her lips, narrow-eyed gaze focused predatorily on Tanishka. Chaitanya was starting to think that this was an ambush, and that he just had the unfortunate luck of being caught in the crossfire.
Beside him, Tanishka clenched her jaw, plum-painted lips pursing dispassionately. She looked beautiful today, with a deep purple co-ord kurta and palazzo set that matched the tie Chaitanya was wearing, but that prettiness sharpened into something terrifying the moment she glared at Krushna. He decided it was best if he interfered, and hastily stuck a hand out towards Krushna with a small, polite smile.
“Good evening,” he greeted in the most amiable tone he could muster, “it’s nice to meet you. I’m Chaitanya Kulkarni. Tanishka’s boyfriend.”
Krushna’s intense silver stare fixed itself onto him, and the slow, charming grin that curled up his full, glossy lips was positively swoon-worthy. “Oh, they weren’t lying,” he murmured under his breath as he took the offered hand and shook it firmly. “You really are ridiculously beautiful. Hello, Gorgeous. I'm Krushna Mahajan.”
A red hot flush bloomed across Chaitanya’s cheeks, and he squashed down the urge to squirm, ducking his head and letting out an honest to God giggle. He was pretty sure he resembled a tomato, and silently cursed his pale complexion for flushing so easily. “Ah, um,” he stammered, an awkward smile curling up his lips, “not— not really. I’m just― I’m just wearing a bit of makeup.”
Krushna chuckled, smooth and deep and unfairly attractive. “Makeup is not the only thing that makes someone beautiful,” he replied, gazing intently into Chaitanya’s eyes.
The sound of a throat being cleared broke the moment, and he realised Krushna still had a firm grip on his hand. He pulled away with another awkward laugh and turned towards Tanishka, who had her eyes narrowed at Krushna. Her fingernails dug into Chaitanya’s elbow till it was bordering on painful, and he winced, shifting a little so the pressure lessened.
“Ah, my apologies,” Krushna said, his voice very apologetic but the way he narrowed his eyes back at her very much not. “Congratulations on the betrothal, Chaitanya. Tanishka, I’m very happy for you.”
Arjun made an aborted sort of sound, hiding it by turning away, and Chaitanya blinked at him in confusion. Tanishka’s glare focused on her little brother, and the man in question raised his hands with a shrug and a badly hidden shit-eating grin. Chaitanya felt like he was missing about several hundred extremely important details, and he looked at Krushna with a raised eyebrow. The man simply shrugged back, and he felt himself unconsciously tracking the movement of the broad line of his shoulders before turning away and catching the eye of the woman in pearly white.
She winked at him. Chaitanya pursed his lips, feeling his flush return full force, and he blinked, trying to look anywhere except Krushna or the woman.
“Come, Chaitanya,” Tanishka gritted out, adjusting her clothes and tugging on his elbow, almost making him lose his footing. “We have other guests to meet. Arjun and Aharya can keep Krushna entertained.”
With that, he got dragged away before any of them could reply, throwing one last apologetic look back at the three friends.
“Tanishka,” he began, but the woman did not even bother to look at him, and continued to pull him towards whatever part of the restaurant she had her mind on. He sighed and ripped his arm from her grip as gently as he could, exceedingly aware of the cameras on the edges of the room that were eager to click away at any perceived unrest or drama, and gently grabbed her shoulders to turn her around. “Tanishka. Tanishka, wait.”
She glared at him, and he bent down to press a soft kiss to her forehead, and cheered internally when she leaned into the touch instead of pulling away like he was half afraid she would.
“What happened back there?” he murmured, and she shook her head minutely, the look on her face telling him to drop it. He ignored it. He wanted answers. “I’ve never seen you be that rude to anyone— hell, you were nice to that bitch who spilled her coffee on you the other day.”
Tanishka’s lips twisted up, features scrunching up into a poisonous look aimed over his shoulder, and he had an inkling that it was aimed at Krushna. “It’s nothing,” she said curtly. “Don’t concern yourself with it.”
Chaitanya sighed and dragged her closer for a hug, clenching his jaw when he saw a flash go off from the corner of his eyes. He turned them around so the cameras could not get a glimpse of Tanishka’s face, and leaned down to place another kiss on her forehead. “I just wanna know if there’s something I can do to help,” he said softly, running a soothing hand up and down her back.
Tanishka shook her head.
“No,” she whispered, closing her eyes. When she opened them again, Chaitanya was alarmed to see them swimming with mushed tears. He pressed her closer to himself, casting a panicked eye around for Charita. Bloody woman kept disappearing right as he needed her the most.
“Krushna and Arjun go way back,” Tanishka said after taking a second to control herself, words coming out haltingly like she was trying not to choke on her tears. “And they’ve made it their mission to ruin anything and everything for me. They hate me, and they make it known. It’s been like that since I was fifteen.”
Chaitanya stared at her, not knowing how to respond to that. Sure, Arjun had an unusual love for pushing Tanishka’s buttons, and guessing from what he saw right now Krushna was probably not her biggest fan, but that could not possibly mean they hated her. Hell, he and Charita still heckled the eldest two siblings to their limits, but that did not mean they did not love each other.
“I’m sure that—” he began, but Tanishka glared at him and shook her head.
“Let’s not talk about this,” she said, and before he could stop her, she extracted herself from his hug and walked away, the soft jingle of her paayal lost to the sounds of the party. Chaitanya stared after her for a couple seconds, unsure of how to react to this situation.
He exhaled, and ran a hand through his hair.
Maybe it was best that he focused on looking for Charita, rather than whatever sibling rivalry was going on between Tanishka and Arjun, and Krushna.
feeling healthy. classic friday night crying unexpectedly because it just occurred to me that im almost 30 and ive spent the last 3 days alone with no one to talk to. im just in bed watching the simpsons wishing i had someone with me just to fucking watch the simpsons or stupid youtube comps. i’ve been seething because my roommate left days ago without telling me and he hasn’t cleaned a thing since i moved in so i’ve spent the past 2 days scrubbing the place clean which makes me resentful. he also left his aging dog here and she drives me insane and i didn’t sign up to be a dog owner but here we are. should i let her starve and shit in the house or do i just do the right thing and make sure shes fed. let her out when she screams at the door at all hours of the day night and morning. its been raining but stopped today so i left the house and spent 50$ on nothing and i still dont have a job and i just have to come up with new ways to spend my time with nothing to do no money no one to talk do on this shithole hill
like when you’re young and optimistic and idealistic you never think that sad loser is gonna be you. like no way i’m gonna be a sad friendless lonely freak of nature. no way im gonna be broke and jobless near 30.
and it just creeps up and like i’d do anything to get out of this but i just fail and fail and fail and i can’t find a way out. everything is just closing in on me rn. and if i go home to my parents i wont need to worry as much about money for the time being but what kind of back peddling is that….i spent my entire 20s working up the courage to move out completely and again im failing. i can’t go home anyways because believe it or not my situation is every worse there
and my parents are so scared for me…like they won’t say it but they’re ashamed and disappointed and they pity me which is honestly worse than anything else….i don’t want them to help me out of pity it feels like no one believes in me at all
which makes sense lol i don’t believe in myself either….i don’t excel at anything…..i can’t even get an entry level job in my field where i have experience…i can’t monetize anything else i do because im just not a very skilled person and its not self pity, or maybe it is, but like no one cares about art or whatever it is i like to do.
like i’ve felt like i’ve been fading away for a few years now as friends and family moved onto bigger and better and it’s just getting worse as time goes on…i don’t know what i want i’ve never known and it doesn’t even matter because i’ve never gotten anything i’ve wanted anyways. i just want to not be lonely. it’s so simple
i just want to disconnect from everyone and everything because i’m so beaten down by rejection and failure and isolation and despite good things these bad things compound and im so exhausted i don’t even care about what happens to me anymore
it’s so weird being this person you know people pity…that the worst part
i’m tying….i go outside…i exercise…i engage with my hobbies….i haven’t shut out my friends….i keep applying for work even though i feel this feeling of dread and know it wont go anywhere …i haven’t given up yet but im not really under any illusions that things will “get better” anymore
anyways i’m sorry for the boo hoo wah woe is me wahhhh moment im just so sick and tired of this relentless shit
Its lil!Schoenheit's turn at the fluff! And it's family fluff this time:)
It's finally the most anticipated winter break! The time to go home, spend time with family, and relax. Is what any normal student would get, but not the Schoenheits. With Vil and their father being actors and models respectively, it leaves lil!Schoenheit at home.
They can entertain themselves just fine for the first few days of winter break but seeing all their friend's magicam story with their parents and friends, the loneliness sinks in deeper. Dinners are always just them, if they are lucky, they can eat with their exhausted and tired family. Lil!Schoenheit tries to make small talk like asking how work was or how was their day, even if it ends with them going in a rant or complaining it was fine for them. If they're really tired, they say it was fine or ok. Days of the same thing and they start to isolate themselves in their room, they have their computer and their phone to pass the time.
Miraculously, Vil gets 2 days of and their dad 1. They want to make the most of this opportunity and surprise lil!Schoenheit by spending the day together so they make plans without them. Going outside to a park or tourist site? It would only cause trouble because of their fame, renting out a cinema? It would beat the atmosphere. Visiting family? They fear that lil!Schoenheit may be overlooked for not being a model or actor like them so another no. So they decide to buy a popular board game, Monopoly. Vil has seen the board game club play this and he suggested it, what could go wrong?
A lot went wrong, in a good way. Vil asked for lil!Schoenheit to come to the living room and they explained what they wanted to do. Excited, they started to play. One unforseen thing they missed while planning is that they were all very competitive, it's part of the reason their family is as far as they are today. The game started to get heated but lil!Schoenheit comes out victorious with their father going bankrupt first and Vil almost winning if it weren't for the hotel he landed on.
At that moment they didn't mind losing, they haven't seen lil!Schoenheit smile that wide in a long time. "Fine, you win this time. But next time, you will be eating your words" Vil says they realize that it was late and they ate dinner as a family. Vil's second day of his leave was spent on his self care and rejuvenation. It was soon back to normal but everytime they both had syncing days off, the game would come off the shelves and onto the table.
My brain was going 200mph writing this in the middle of the night. Some of the monopoly scenes are based of my experience🥲. This was really long so take your eyes off the screen and drink some water. Thank you for reading!
>:} anon
hhh new family tradition for the shoenheits <333
love love love the idea of lil schoenheit finally getting some healthy family bonding with their brother and father through board games :O
im sure lil schoenheit would try to introduce new games to their family, probably asking azul or idia (through ortho, at least) to borrow some from the club. to not make board game nights too monotonous :D
devil night - angel and john b
tw: mention of rape
three years ago
angel
andrew kept his eyes on the road the entire time he drove back home. he was mad because what he thought was his wasn’t acting according to plan.
i couldn’t care less. all I could think was john b’s hands on me. how his breath tickled my neck. the look he was giving me under the mask and thst it was directed towards me. how it all happened in under an hour and how alive I felt for that hour.
then andrew had to come and ruin it.
sighing i called my mom, walking around the living room of the routledge’s house. I checked in with my mom when he dropped me off and made sure she was okay. we talked and i did my homework in her bed before I found my way walking back over here.
since my dad died this is how i spent most of my childhood. going to their house for comfort and laughter and actual conversation where I didn’t have to initiate it. my mom tried her best but it wasn’t enough. she knew and that’s why she didn’t mind me going over as much as I did. didn’t even mind that I’ll spend the night even with two boys around my age in the house.
“hey honey.” she answered. her voice sounding a bit tired already. i hope she didn’t take anything.
“hey mom. I should be home after we eat dinner and we could watch the good fellas again. i know you like watching robert de niro.”
“don’t make it sound like it’s something nasty angel. he’s just an attractive older man.”
“he sounds just like dad. i see why you’re attracted to him.”
“yeah he is.” there was a pause and i know she was remembering my father. “I’ll be there in an hour okay mom? bring a plate of whatever ms bradshaw is cooking.” I said in a softer voice, hoping to pry her out her daydream.
“no go out tonight and have fun. be a teenager. im tired and won’t eat whatever you bring home. plus abby already told me that the boys are back. i’m sure that they’re gonna eat more then their fair share of food today.” she joked before a yawn escaped her.
she already took her pills. “you sure?” “yes.”
“if I get pregnant tonight it’s your fault. I hope you know.”
“i would spoil that grandchild endlessly. you know that.”
“i know. bye mommy.” “bye.”
music escaped from the other side of the house where the basketball court was. that was another reason why came here so often. why my need to come here grew despite andrew’s desperation.
the sound of the basketball bouncing down the hallways. it let me know that he was here most likely alone. i didn’t even need to see him. i just had to hear that damn basketball bouncing. it was usually the highlight of my day.
making my way into the dining room i saw that andrew was already there. napkin on his lap and wearing better clothes than a hoodie and a jeans which I was wearing. he was wearing the uniform of a perfect son. sighing I sat next to him, knowing that what was expected of me. waiting for the to come in so I could be away from him.
“hello you two.” mrs routledge greeted in her tennis skirt and polo shirt. she sat at the head of the table and like her son made sure she looked like the perfect uniform of what a wife should be.
it was exhausting being here sometimes.
i was glad for more then one reason when the music from the basketball court came off and the hallway was filled with excited chatter. at least they would provide some kind of something.
they filled the room the same time ms bradshaw brought in the food and we all started to fill our plates with food. they were all standing up though. most likely going somewhere private where they could plan their activities for tonight.
“your father had some things he needs to do in the city so it’s only us for tonight.” she explained and john b rolled his eyes before mouthing over at me. “or someone.”
it was clear that those two didn’t get along and that john b hates disloyalty and the fact that everybody knows about it but pretends not to.
but his mother is the only family member that I think he loves. he’ll never hurt her by bringing up that fact in front of her knowingly.
as soon as they went to leave mrs routledge cleared her thorat and they all turned to look at her. “it’s been awhile since we had dinner at the table together. i’ll appreciate if you boys sit down.”
a chorus of yes ma’am and chairs being pulled out soon followed and she smiled before finally eating. andrew’s knuckles turned white around his cup.
don’t know why he was so mad. it’s not like they were sitting next to me. john b sat next to him at the head of the table where his dad usually sits then jj, rafe, and pope was sitting on the opposite side of us.
“i trust that you boys are going to keep it lowkey this year. nothing too big right?” mrs routledge asked as everyone settled in and started eating.
“no choice but to. can’t have jb lose his talks on going pro because of us.” rafe explained, looking a little disappointed that he had too.
“do you miss being on the same team together? i know people on your team is good honey but it’s not the same playing together huh?”
“it’s lonely but we’re all just one call away when it gets too much.” pope admitted, grabbing more of the deviled eggs that ms bradshaw put out.
“actually i’m thinking of switching to cabeiri. they have a better sport medicine program and a better basketball team.” jj spoke up and mrs routledge nodded.
“and so you can of course continue on your bromance.” andrew grumbled.
“aww don’t feel so left out. you can come join.” pope teased and jj sat back and patted his lap. “yeah we don’t want you to be to lonely now.” they chuckled along with rafe. that just made andy grip his cup tighter.
“boys.” she said and they stopped and continued eating their food.
it was quiet until mrs routledge finished and excused herself. when we heard a door closed, andrew slammed his cup down and got up. “you better keep away from her!”
a blush ran up my body as i tugged on his arm. “can you not? please?” but he ignored me. his attention was stuck on his brother who was sitting back in his seat, chewing slowly. “who?”
the cup broke in andrew’s hand as he choked out the words. “you know who i’m talking about. leave angel alone in your games.”
he smirked sipping his water before he repeated. “who?” the boys laughed as they all got up and walked out.
i swallowed before i turned to andrew who was breathing so hard it almost sound like he was having a panic attack. “i’m not yours. i think of you just as a friend. nothing more and nothing less, okay?”
“you would fuck him if he looked at you twice like the whore you are.”
“fuck you.” glaring at him, i left the table. left to clean his mess. I hate this. one brother gave me too much attention while the other one look at me like i’m nothing to him expect when he wants to use me as a pawn in one of games.
it was exhausting.
i don’t even have the energy anymore to pretend that i care to go to a party anymore. just wanna cuddle up next to my mom and watch movies with her until she falls asleep.
I escape from the back, avoiding the four boys in the garage. i’ll see what they did tonight tomorrow when it gets posted.
walking down the road to my house, i realize how dark it is. the way home is only lit by the orange light from the lamps. the leaves on the trees is still falling slowly. the wind wasn’t as bad it should be as close to the water as we are.
the peaceful walk was ruined by red lights and the bass of the song they were playing. i walked to the edge of the road. they were most likely they were wishing to party. I didn’t want to be the reason they couldn’t go anymore.
instead of rushing by me, they slow down. the driver side opened and john b stepped out. “let’s go. you’re spending the night with us.” he demanded.
what?
“i said let’s go angel.” when I didn’t move fast enough, he grabbed my arm and led me to the passenger behind the driver. he opened the door and instead of waiting I hopped in.
⋇⋆✦⋆⋇🗡️⋇⋆✦⋆⋇🗡️⋇⋆✦⋆⋇🗡️⋇⋆✦⋆⋇🗡️⋇⋆✦⋆⋇🗡️⋇⋆✦⋆⋇🗡️⋇⋆✦⋆⋇🗡️⋇⋆✦⋆⋇
i felt eyes all on me.
okay thst was a lie. i was well aware that of the four bodies that was surrounding me. john b and jj in the front. pope next to me and the one that kept my hand on the door next to me was behind me. rafe. i could smell the cigarettes coming off of him.
we were near the edge of outer banks. it wasn’t on our side of town either. it was somewhere in the cut.
we stopped at a abandoned house and before they got out, pope handed everyone their masks. expect for me. i put up my hood and made sure that it’ll cover the majority of my hair and face.
when i was done, i got out the same time as john b did. he pulled me close and dug into my pockets. “what are you doing?”
he pulled out the box of matches I had on me. “should be asking why do you have these? planning on having some fun of your own?” he asked his head cocked to the side. I heard the smile in his voice though.
he didn’t disapprove.
“no. my dad used to buy these for me when he was alive. I like the smell of them.” like christmas. but I couldn’t tell him that part. i was trying to prove to him I wasn’t a kid. “became a habit to keep them on me I guess.” he didn’t say anything, just put them back in my pocket.
we waited for the rest to get out and we all walked in, pope carrying a bag.
it didn’t look that bad on the outside but the inside, it was horrible. the carpet and mattresses all had stains on it. most which looked like blood and pee. they were even some furniture that was broken. you couldn’t even tell what it was supposed to be anymore.
it smelt like something died in here. looking back at the blood stain on the mattress closest to me another though hit me. or someone.
why are they starting here? why bring me out of all people here?
“you know you shouldn’t be here angel.” rafe said coming from behind me.
“yeah something horrible happened here.” pope said coming from my right.
gulping, I turned so I can face the both of them. “like what?”
“beside from the obvious? a girl got raped here months ago. she couldn’t tell who assailants were because they all were black masks.” rafe continued. my eyes flicked over rafe’s mask. only thing you could make out was his blue eyes but they were so dark right now thst if you were far away they look black. blending in with the rest of his mask.
“a-assailants?” like multiple.
“there were so many and they kept coming thst she lost count on how many times she got fucked thst night.” that was jj coming from the other side of me.
“some got caught of course.” rafe shrugged.
“but there was some that wasn’t. still walking around waiting for their next victim to come to them willingly.” they all came closer as pope spoke.
“like four.” john b spoke from behind me and I turned to face him.
my chest felt tight. all I had was matches and just some converses on. that’s not much to defend myself with.
shouldn’t have gotten in that car. should’ve knew it was too fucking good to be true.
then they all started laughing and walking away from me. “joking. it’s just a drug den that got shut down and we’re making sure it’ll stay shut down. let’s light it up!” john b said as the others started splashing stuff around the first floor of the house.
gasoline.
they made sure every part of it was covered before entering the living room. they all struck a match and I grabbed my matches and lit one myself. the place stayed dark while I did so. they were watching me, all with their matches in hand expect pope who was recording this.
taking a look around, I thought about how many lives this place destroyed. how many people were hurt here. probably even killed here with how massive these blood stains were. maybe even kids were hurt here. it deserves to.
I threw the first one and watched it burst into four feet flames, going up a wall. they threw theirs and we watched as it got bigger.
“let’s fucking go!” pope shouted as he filled the living room get filled with flames. making sure to get every single detail.
“let’s go.” john b called and we all walked out. rafe carrying the bag pope carried in as pope continued filming.
he’s supposed to be the smart one. so why document this?
“make the call.” john b said to jj who took out what looked like a burner phone and walked away, dialing whoever.
looking around, nobody was outside but us. this neighborhood was completely abandoned or just didn’t have a lot of people here.
a strong hand pulled me to the car and held me against. I could smell the cigarettes on him. fucking rafe.
“why did he bring you along tonight? what did you guys do down there?” he questioned standing to his full height. “nothing happened. why don’t you ask him?”
“tell me the truth. you won’t like when I find out you lie to me.” he grumbled, coming closer to me and I push him back. “do you question all the people that he hangs out with?”
“only ones that’s not worth the trouble.”
“rafe leave her alone.” john b said and rafe backed off going to the trunk to put the bag away. pope and jj was coming to the car, both of the phones they had were in their pockets.
john b was at the passenger door and his mask was off. “come here angel.” I quickly went over to him as he got in the car. “you’re sitting on my lap. we got other people to pick up.” he said as jj got in the driver’s side.
when I hesitated, he rolled his eyes. “come on. or you’re going to be left here. and cops are coming so.” he hinted and I climbed in and made myself comfortable on his lap, trying to ignore the blush on my face right now.
Hello!! Ik im super late, I spent the whole saturday travelling back to my hometown (a 7 hour travel turned into 10 so i just wanted to sleep after) and today was fathers day here and i had a family asado, so i got home at 5pm and also wanted to sleep after so many hours of ~socializing~ lmao Also, here I have next to zero privacy and it's very difficult to have 'unproductive' time online ¬¬ My mother demands at least 6 hours of conversation a day and its...exhausting
Anyways, finally watched the ep! And it left me with more doubts than answers tbh
First, I think Blue house really doesn't give a shit about the tournament. Its a given they're gonna lose, so why bother with much training? I think they participate out of obligation, but I bet being in the team is more like a chore than an honor at this point lol (idk how Derrick would fake it, except by saying he's the leader when he just played for fun and left the rest of the responsabilities and strategizing to others?)
Somehow Derrick IS less creepy as a zombie, ngl. His dead eyes at least make sense when he's, you know, dead.
And I must say that I already didnt think much of the P4, but after this??? Bitch, be fr right now. Did they seriously just slaughtered 6 people??? And did it for the 'school traditions' not even the student body who are the actual victims!? Cause I'd totally support them if they had thought of the students, since the fucking 'Lower Master' (which i guess would be the vicedirector/vicerector???) was in on it (which eeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwww????????' like, are you some kind of pedo sadist? or just so hard up for that whiskey? what is your deal, man???) and they had no recourse for justice. But eh, maybe plan a little?? The tiniest bit???
Also, we don't see what became of the others!!! Did they kill them all? Did they knock them out and left them tied up somewhere and waited for Druitt's people to murder them?? (Imagine you expect your nephew to have killed 1 (one) boy and then he just throws SIX corpses at you lmao) And WHY were they more worried about Derrick than about the Lower Master? WHERE ARE THE TEACHERS IN THIS SCHOOL? You *cannot* pay me enough to believe that 4 teenage boys have more autority than the full roaster of teachers? *They* never wondered where the man was? Why were they following orders from children??? How little did they interact with their superior than a zombie didn't arouse any questions?
(Also, HOW did they took them all out? Wheter they killed them or knocked them out, there were 4 other robust boys and a full grown adult and they had one single weapon! I was kinda expecting Violet to start throwing butter knifes a lá Sebastian when he crouched before the door lololol)
And that post-mortem hit really was overkill. I guess they felt Derrick was completely to blame and wanted to let out some anger. How do you even coordinate a hit like that tho? Awkward xD
I did not expect Ciel to keep up the innocent act lol. Yeah, suuuure you don't understand a little murder as a necessity (or as a treat xD) And admitting murder so readily is the epitome of stupid!! They didnt even ask you directly if you killed him! You could have said he died accidentally and you just...stumbled into UT's cult. Bluff or something, man! Amateurs
Yeahh I totally believe people with more wealth and prospects have more 'episodes' planned out. Poor people tend to just think about the end of the month and then the next one and so on. Rich people don't have many limits to their imaginations (I mean, the men dont.). I believe the LM, being an 'educator' had probably plans for multiple of the boys and their futures and how that'd affect his, bla bla bla and that's why he became so...lifelike.
Oh, so you're in the UT is Ciel's grandad train! Or is it canon now? Idk, I feel lost xD (But ALSO. Why is UT not chasing the people that killed his son/other Phantomhives and instead antagonising the only actual Phantomhive left???????? It makes no senseeeeee)
I don't give a s h i t if bullets didn't do UT harm. The SECOND I heard that 'heh-heh-heh' I'd be shooting. Three bullets at least (Ciel's gun is a modern one, why the f idk, so he prob has 20-25 bullets instead of the 5-6 of revolvers). I'd just want some *blood*. (Kudos to Ciel for keeping his head straight tho, UT would have probably bounced the bullets and injured the others)
Hartcourt is going THROUGH it today. He was probably very relieved when Blue House humiliated themselves in front of the Queen cause people would probably forget what happened to him in the pitch. But now this??? Poor baby. He's gonna have nightmares for YEARS.
I love the idea that O!Ciel still has an inner goodness that neither of his blood family had, even without being hella traumatized as a child.
Sebastian being pre-cog is bullshit. Just say you're insecure, Seb. It's okay. UT kicked your ass before, it's fair to be scared lolol
And poor Joanne passing out. I kept expecting Ciel to shoot the zombie Sebastian was protecting him from in the head, making his head explode, to remark the fact that he can (kinda) protect himself (sometimes). Alas, he didn't. Wasted oportunity!
Sebastian totally wants the Queen dead. He hates his master being someone else's dog xD
I LOVE that Ed went away but only to look for a weapon and come back!! Love that kid lol
The P4 were expelled and left probably in disgrace, but really, how much?? Like, they obviously end up working for Druitt (WHY?) but....adopt a new identity? Leave the country? I love that they sticked together tho. And even this the crown had all of THIS covered up; so really, they could have just done better.
Love the servants and the little glimpse we got of them! Ciel missed them too, it's obvious ha.
Oh, the Queen is 10000% evil (like pretty much any monarch of this time period) and very much had something to do with Ciel's family dying. Why tho, is the question.
Traveling for so long is tiring, adding to that socializing, amor you should probably rest a bit more. Just imagining me traveling 10 hours plus having to socialize that much makes me feel like one of UT's bizarre dolls.
Maybe Derrick just made the others play badly so that he'd look better? But that just makes it funnier when the time for the tournament comes and he's shit. "I'm just here to have a good time." "Well, stop having a good time and start properly playing!"
Honestly, I kinda like how much they value tradition because it makes the school seem a bit evil. Others have already pointed out that this arc is a mundane horror arc. The pace and the goals make it seem like one of those teen movies but not quite right. Ciel needs to get rid of a bully, he needs to get close to the popular kids (the P4) so he can get invited to the party (the midnight tea party) like in the movies. Ciel is almost like that unpopular kid who wants to become popular. But at the same time, the arc reflects how society as a whole works. You need to network, gain trust, etc. to get invited to certain things. There are traditions or processes that could be changed but aren't because "they work just fine rn. if it ain't broke don't fix it."
I don't like that the P4 are idiots that share 1 brain cell, because in what universe do you decide to try and bring your victims back to life???? They'll tattle on you.
The Lower Master is 1000% a pedo sadist. Why else would he be hiding in the shadows watching kids get beat? IMO he's as bad a Druitt because those kids are under his care, the parents put their trust in that institution, in that fucker and he does that? he's a bitch.
There is only one teacher in that school and it's Sebastian. Otherwise, the other houses would have a coach too. But it only seems like the Blue House has a coach, that does spend a lot of time with one particular young boy and carries him when he's hurt and kinda flirted with another and made him confess to being bullied... yeah, that school has too many faculty that's into kids... poor kids.
Violet kinda just blocked the exit while Redmond + Bluewer held one person and Greenhill beat up Derrick. I love Violet, I really do, but there's no way he took down the rest of the boys. Those boys should've been able to run and the P4 should've been forced to hunt them down for sport.
The P4 are lucky to live in an era where they can't be easily voice-recorded. Because if Ciel wasn't the Queen's Guard dog, it'd be a he said, she said kinda thing. The moment Ciel started asking, they should've just said," I have the right to an attorney and won't speak without one present."
Gender and socio-economic status must play a big role. There would obviously be exceptions, there's always people eager to climb the social ladder (marrying kids into a better-off family, a middle-class family pushing for one of the kids to go into a good, respectable, career, etc.) The LW was probably just eager imagining what kinda of kid he'd see beaten up next year and what success story would decide to mention his name as an inspirations or whatever, maybe he even wanted to become the headmaster.
Amor, I don't think he's Ciel's grandpa. I just think he was Claudia's sidepiece. She probably rode that D while away from home when he was busy being the Guard Dog. She probably left after fucking, meaning UT wrote their names and drew hearts around them in a notebook. Maybe they're canon in the manga, but I just find this funnier.
I feel like UT would've either been offended had Ciel fired at him or found it hilarious. Because that kid knows not even 2 reapers and a demon can take him on but he still shot at him? He'd burst out laughing.
Harcourt is the real victim. He shat himself in front of everyone, he discovers one of his crushes is a butler, then his body goes into shock because there are hungry, hungry zombies and he pisses himself, lastly, his two crushes are being gay in front of him and he passes out. And by, like, the next day, his boss is expelled, his crushes leave, and he isn't allowed to talk to anyone about what happened. My boy needs therapy.
I think Yana has spoken at times about how Vincent is kinda very evil and just the fact that he's evil (even if he's so soft and attentive to his sons) was kinda passed down to them. I think R!Ciel might've inherited more of the Phantomhive evilness because he was the oldest and Vincent might've spent a bit more time since he'd inherited everything. I also think that Ciel has always been the one with more inner goodness, I think. I've seen screenshots here where O!Ciel says he wants to start his toy company because he's almost always inside (cause he's sickly) and wants kids like him to be able to enjoy themselves because most toys are outside toys. Meanwhile, R!Ciel tells him that it's dumb and stuff. There's also a difference when it comes to how they speak about the Earl's duties to the people who live in the Phantomhive land and how they talk to servants from the little I've seen.
Ed is such a sweet boy. I like the dynamic between him and Ciel.
I am 10000000000% Druitt approached them and gave them the job because he "loves" his nephew. The only way Druitt becomes tolerable to me is if I HC him hating his family and going out of his way to fuck them over. That's why he's doing this to poor Redmond. Because I doubt even he (Druitt) is stupid enough to think that any of this is a good idea.
and very much had something to do with Ciel's family dying. Why tho, is the question.
I can answer this question. She had Claudia killed because she UT's D but he was too in love with Claudia. She obviously had to wait until there was a Phantomhive heir old enough to be a Guard Dog before killing her, hence she waited until Vincent was around 15 years old. Then she got impatient because UT had still not gotten over his ex and killed Vincent. She probably wouldn't give a shit if the twins dies because if UT didn't want her, then she'd at least have killed all he loved and would just give the title to the Midfords or some other family. (joking)
My best bet is that they were turning against her or knew something that they shouldn't and she didn't trust them to keep their mouths shut.
Things that made me insane during criminal minds evolution:
Written while I watched so enjoy my bumbling mess. Spoiler alert of course.
Episode 7:
I've seen spoilers this time so I sad oh we. It's mainly only because of Garcia stuff.
The women in the opening looks like my old friend..huh weird.
Why did deputy dipshit do the opening quote gross.
Oh no it's the JJ and Penelope from season 3 scene but worseeeeee.
Emily is concerned and thinking.
Garcia baby you need a friend your obliviously not okay you need support.
Emily is a mood.
So I'm emotionally lately and Papa Rossi with Tara I'm cryinggg.
Okay no. I'm sorry but look I LOVE Tara I do and I get she just got broken up with but hear me out hear. When Luke and JJ almost died they didn't even get to go home for a sleep before they had to keep going on the case but Dave Is trying to get Tara to take 3 days off (hell yes she desever it but not my point right now) JJ in the last episode qas exhausted and honstely she's probably close to a break down and no one e is there for her apart from Will of course but what happened to the team that use to be a family please. It so broken.
I need David Rossi to give me a dad talk or someone to give me a dad talk please.
Where's Luke??? Ughh I'm over the writers.
I can not take this episode seriously im sorry I love Garcia right now she reminds me of me this weekend.
I'm also Emily at my friend's decision in men.
The little I love you when she leaves.
Garcia needs to get her shit together but why is Noone asking her what she's up to? Does anyone check in on Penelope and JJ anymore like thoes two were always there for the team. Derek and Spencer were thier supporters and so was Hotch now they gone so just thoes two thinking they are all alone again because they have trust issues someone hug them please.
I'm starting to like deputy director he cool man just don't lie to people man, but damn he good at.
Tyler getting it is good I like this it's good.
Um no do not go over!!! At least have Emily or JJ over please!! Or even better Luke... jealous Luke...please.
Ugh I'm sorry but I hate it I HATE it when females think they can push or slap other when annoyed or angry and think it's okay but if a man did it oh hell no. Ughhh Elias your wife annoys me.
Omg he was really so close to killing her and that's kinda hot and sad.. and I need therapy.
Grace and Ashley are awwww.
Her smile her smile her smile!
His smile his eyes.
No shut up Garia ew yes hot yes kinky yes I want you to say that to me (and Luke) but not him.
Like I don't like it but at least we finislly get to see Penelopes love life without stupid Kevin because when she dated Sam (season 9 to 11) IT DISAPPEARED.
NO PENELOPE NO! BAD PENELOPE!
Rossi please get some rest, I'm worried.
Oooh his own kill kit
Rossi gonna get himself killed.
Haha neighbor same, omg the song choice nooooo. Omg no no 😂😂
Okay I'm GARCIA! actually no I'm blaming that line on. KIRSTEN VANGSNESS!!!
THIS SCENE IS SO HOT HOLY FUCK.
His grin, the books,the heavy breathing. She totally rided him hard. But his hair isn't messed up weird.
Okay so um thoughts I know we want Derek go come back to knock some sense into Penelope but I don't think he's going to be that good... you know who we need.. we need and I know the Writers are going to really really struggle on this but um what about bringing but... JJ, Emily and Tara. OH WAIT THEY NEVER LEFT BUT SOMEHOW THE FRIENDSHIP BETWEEN THOES FOUR IS COMPLETELY GONE!!!!!!!!!BRING IT BACK! Or at least JJ and Penelope or please please after season 13 Emily just doesn't seem to like JJ any more. WHY?! GIVE ME A REASON AND MY FAMILY BACK.
Also Luke. Why is he even in the show? If your not going to give him much to do your just fucking us off. WE WANT LUKE WE WANT MORE LUKE.
Today was SUCH a great fucking day (very intense sarcasm noises)
First my dad spent a good hour and a half pretty much mocking my disability (not a rarity) by saying over and over just how EASY it is to get to the phone repair shop, all but one of those being said after I thoroughly explained I, fun fact, literally cannot fucking control how my mental issues fuck with my capability of directional sense (or memory, or sleep, or chronic exhaustion, or physical issues with movement, etc for eternity)
After finally dropping the phone at the repair place I had to go home, my dad ditching bc he wanted to go somewhere else before my mom picked him up (sudden btw! she literally called as we were making our way back! we autistics sure love a sudden change of plans we were not warned about!!)
Then, right as I'm about to enter my home, I realize my keys fell out when i picked up my bag. AKA I could not open the door.
BUT my sibling is at home, bc she's sick so she didn't go to class which means she is not going anywhere. SO she can just, open the door, RIGHT??? RIGHT??????
Apparently not! Because while I had the worst fucking panic attack i've bad in a long while I rang the bell for fifteen fucking minutes!!!
FIFTEEN MINUTES UNTIL SHE DECIDED SHE WOULD OPEN THE DOOR
Why? Well because she was scared (she was anxious and didnt want to deal with social interactions, not like "Ohh im paranoid someone will kill me if i answer" scared. I know bc we've discussed this before. we literally share the same brand of anxiety)
Fun facts: -She can check thru the window, we live in an appartment with a PERFECT view of the door that nobody would see her thru -ITS AN APPARTMENT, THE BELL WAS NOT AT OUR DOOR, IT WAS DOWNSTAIRS. If something weird happened she could just NOT open the door after listening thru the bell phone thing since I could have not known at fucking all -Here ringing more than twice is INCREDIBLY rude and innapropiate and nobody in their right fucking mind would ring for five minutes straight, much less fifteen. Unless they lived there, which I do.
I would've been locked out of my house with no phone, 5 bucks on my wallet and NOTHING ELSE (not even a jacket for when it got colder, fun fact!!!!! BC ITS FUCKING COLD OUT DURING THE EVENING NOW) for AT LEAST A WHOLE DAY UNTIL MY DAD WAS BACK FROM WORK AT 7AM TOMORROW
I love my fucking family (Again, very extreme sarcasm)
#vent#tw vent#im soooo done#i already snapped at my dad twice today for poking fun at how EASY not being disabled is#then this shit???#i already spent half the morning crying from bottled up stress and shit from current events really weighting on me#like yknow my missing cat who's been gone for 3 months bc my dad is a careless piece of shit and left the terrace door open at night#and the chronic fatigue mixed with severe insomnia that has been hitting me so hard my memory gaps are more like memory precipices rn#like im fighting so fucking hard against all sorts of bad thoughts and ideations can yall at least be NICE for one day jesus christ#i cannot wait to move out
